- 0:00They say that the land has its own
- 0:02masters. And heedlessness breeds regret
- 0:04. Between the world of humans and the
- 0:07world of jinn lies a thread as thin as
- 0:09a hair. If you sever it, you open the
- 0:11gates of hell upon yourself, which only
- 0:14our Lord can close. Our true religion
- 0:16warned us about the sanctity of the
- 0:18soul. And taught us that even the beast
- 0:20that walks the earth has its rights. In
- 0:22Moroccan culture, we grew up hearing
- 0:24our parents tell us, especially at
- 0:26night: "Be careful not to hit a cat or
- 0:28a dog at night.""And avoid pouring
- 0:30boiling water into the drains.""And
- 0:32invoke God's name at every threshold
- 0:34and every ruin, for the dwellers are
- 0:36present." But when a person becomes
- 0:39arrogant and loses his mind to alcohol
- 0:41and sin, he becomes like a blind man
- 0:44walking, unaware of where he is going.
- 0:46And this is precisely what led to
- 0:48bloodshed in Tizi village. Tizi village
- 0:51was an isolated village nestled in the
- 0:52mountains of the High Atlas in Morocco.
- 0:54It was surrounded by dense oak forests
- 0:56and juniper trees. And you would always
- 0:58find fog surrounding the village. The
- 1:00people of the village were simple folk,
- 1:02living off farming and raising sheep,
- 1:04goats, and barley crops. In the heart
- 1:06of this village lies an old mosque,
- 1:08built of stone and mud. Its minaret is
- 1:10short, but the sound of the Adhan
- 1:12reaches the neighboring valleys. The
- 1:15Imam of this mosque is Si Bouchaib. A
- 1:17man in his seventies. He has a white
- 1:20beard. His face is illuminated by the
- 1:22light of night prayers and the Quran.
- 1:24He has extensive knowledge of Sharia
- 1:26sciences and Ruqyah. He was the
- 1:28psychological and spiritual healer of
- 1:29the village. If someone got sick, he
- 1:31would write charms for them and perform
- 1:33Ruqyah. And if a dispute occurred
- 1:34between families in the village, they
- 1:36would come to the mosque, and he would
- 1:38reconcile them according to God’s law
- 1:39. And as we know, in every land, there
- 1:41is the righteous and the corrupt. And
- 1:43the corrupt one of the village was a
- 1:46young man named Touhami. Touhami is 24
- 1:48years old. He grew up without a father.
- 1:50His father had died when Touhami was
- 1:52still young. Poor Mi Halima, she indeed
- 1:54became frail due to working in people's
- 1:56houses and farming to raise her son.
- 1:58But unfortunately, Touhami turned out
- 2:00to be an ungrateful, disobedient, and
- 2:02shameless son. He doesn't know the way
- 2:04to the mosque. He only seeks trouble
- 2:06with people. He sleeps all day until
- 2:08the afternoon. And at night, he goes to
- 2:10hang out with two of his friends,
- 2:12Allouch and Hamid. They gather in
- 2:14remote caves and ruins. And they spend
- 2:16the night drinking Mahia and smoking
- 2:18Kif. On one of the autumn nights, a
- 2:21dark night of those that had neither
- 2:24moon nor stars. The sky looked as black
- 2:27as tar. And the wind whistled through
- 2:30the trees with a sound resembling a
- 2:31person in agony. That night, Touhami
- 2:34and his friends were in an abandoned
- 2:35hut in the oak woods. They kept
- 2:37drinking until they passed out. At 3:30
- 2:39AM, Touhami got up, trembling, and
- 2:41refused to sleep at their place. His
- 2:44friend Allouch grabbed his hand, even
- 2:46though he was drunk himself. He said to
- 2:48him: "Touhami, stay and sleep here
- 2:50tonight.""Listen to the storm outside,
- 2:52what it's like.""There isn't even a
- 2:54moon, my friend.""And the road to the
- 2:55village is completely desolate, full of
- 2:57rocks and wind.""Let's all stay until
- 2:59morning, then go home." Tahami
- 3:01continued, pushing his friend hard and
- 3:03starting to laugh at him. "Are you
- 3:06scared, son of the Caid?""I am Tahami,
- 3:08son of Halima.""I am not afraid of
- 3:10anyone.""I know every stone in this
- 3:12village.""Let me go, God bless your
- 3:14parents, there’s still a gulp left in
- 3:16that bottle to finish on the way."
- 3:19Tahami walked out, dragging his feet as
- 3:21he carried the stones. The bottle was
- 3:23in his pocket. He was singing and
- 3:24swearing in the dark all by himself.
- 3:26Suddenly, he remembered something. He
- 3:28told himself he would take a shortcut
- 3:31to the village. And reach home without
- 3:33being seen by the neighborhood boys who
- 3:34wake up for dawn. He said people would
- 3:36just annoy him and talk too much. "
- 3:37I’ll go through this corner." He
- 3:39decided to pass by a place that all the
- 3:42villagers avoided at night. The ruins
- 3:45of Sidi Majdoud. These ruins were an
- 3:47old, demolished house next to the
- 3:48village’s forgotten cemetery. It was
- 3:50surrounded by fig trees. And people
- 3:52knew that place was heavily haunted. So
- 3:55they wouldn't go near it after sunset.
- 3:58Tahami was walking through that narrow
- 3:59alley attached to the cemetery wall.
- 4:01Stumbling along and drinking. A little
- 4:03while later, something moved near him.
- 4:06Tahami stopped dead in his tracks. He
- 4:10rubbed his eyes. He pulled out his
- 4:12lighter. He lit it to see what was
- 4:14there. And it appeared to him on top of
- 4:17a ledge. A black cat was sitting there.
- 4:21Its blackness was unlike that of
- 4:24ordinary cats. The blackness seemed to
- 4:27suck in the light. And its eyes were
- 4:29glowing with a yellowish-copper color.
- 4:31They looked like embers burning in the
- 4:34ash. The cat didn't run away. It didn't
- 4:37even meow at him. It just sat there
- 4:39looking at him with a steady, sharp
- 4:42gaze. It made the drunkenness fly from
- 4:45his head for a second. If Tahami had
- 4:48been a conscious and sensible man, he
- 4:50would have said, "In the name of God, I
- 4:52seek refuge in the perfect words of God
- 4:55from the evil of what He created," and
- 4:57moved away quietly. But the evil that
- 5:00had seeped into his heart, combined
- 5:01with the effect of the alcohol, made
- 5:03arrogance overcome him. He looked at
- 5:06the cat and began to speak to it
- 5:07mockingly. "What the hell are you
- 5:08looking at me for, you wretched
- 5:09creature?""You’re all I needed
- 5:11tonight.""Standing in my way tonight.""
- 5:14Whoever I find in my path, I’ll break
- 5:16their bones." He lowered his eyes to
- 5:19the ground as if looking for something.
- 5:22And picked up a large rock. A large,
- 5:25sharp rock from the cemetery wall. He
- 5:28approached the cat. The cat didn't run
- 5:30away at that moment. But it stood up on
- 5:32its feet. And all the hair on its back
- 5:35stood up. And a strange sound came from
- 5:37its chest. It wasn't a cat's meow. The
- 5:41sound resembled the hissing of snakes.
- 5:44Mixed with the sigh of someone being
- 5:46strangled at the bottom of a well. And
- 5:48its eyes looked like they were burning
- 5:50with evil. Tahami was out of his mind.
- 5:53He lifted the rock with both hands. And
- 5:55struck the cat's head with all the
- 5:57strength he had. The blow was lethal.
- 6:03But the moment it was hit, the skull
- 6:04didn't bleed normal blood. A black
- 6:07liquid like burnt tar burst from its
- 6:11head. A smell of sulfur and gunpowder
- 6:12emerged from it. If you smelled it,
- 6:14you’d feel like a bullet had just hit
- 6:16your brain. A terrifying scream rose
- 6:19from the middle of the ruin. A howl
- 6:22like the cry of a man suffering in the
- 6:24depths of hell. A howl that made all
- 6:27the village dogs bark and wail at the
- 6:29same moment. In a collective hysteria
- 6:33of fear. He was terrified when he heard
- 6:36that sound. The stone fell from his
- 6:37hand. Even the bottle shattered on the
- 6:39dilapidated tiles. He felt a deathly
- 6:41cold chill run down his spine. He kept
- 6:45watching the cat's body burning. And
- 6:47evaporating into the air like black
- 6:49smoke. He thought he was just under the
- 6:51influence of alcohol. Tahami started
- 6:52running through the village. Stumbling
- 6:54and falling over the stones. The color
- 6:55drained from his face. The drunkenness
- 6:57left him completely. He couldn't even
- 6:59look behind him. He reached their house
- 7:02, panting like a dog. He pushed the
- 7:04door. He hid in his room with his
- 7:06djellaba and shoes on. He was shaking
- 7:08all over. With a fever, his teeth
- 7:10chattering. That terrifying howl he
- 7:13heard was still ringing in his ears
- 7:15like thunder. What this wretched man
- 7:18didn't know was that the creature he
- 7:20crushed with a stone. Was no ordinary
- 7:23cat; it was Sakhr, son of the leader of
- 7:26the Bani Dahman tribe, one of the
- 7:29fiercest tribes. The cursed generation
- 7:31that has inhabited the caves of the
- 7:33Valley of Shame and mountain tombs for
- 7:35hundreds of years. And he was.
- 7:36Disguised in the form of a cat,
- 7:38worshipping in his solitude. Before
- 7:40Tahami surprised him with a deadly blow
- 7:42at dawn. The call to prayer rose from
- 7:47the mosque minaret, "Allahu Akbar,
- 7:50Allahu Akbar," but at that very moment,
- 7:53a hot wind blew from the graveyard
- 7:56toward the village houses, carrying the
- 7:59scent of death, a wind that unsettled
- 8:02all the livestock in the pen. They
- 8:05began kicking and acting wildly. That
- 8:07was the moment the revenge timer
- 8:09started. Ticking. Because the Bani
- 8:12Dahman tribe declared war. And were
- 8:15determined to avenge their son. Not
- 8:18just against Tahami alone. But against
- 8:20the entire village, a life for a life.
- 8:25When morning rose over Tizi village, it
- 8:27wasn't a normal morning as usual. The
- 8:29sun rose covered by a yellow fog,
- 8:32resembling smoke from a fire. And the
- 8:35birds whose songs you were used to
- 8:37hearing over the oak trees had vanished
- 8:39. But this time, in their place, was
- 8:42the sound of crows. That gathered on
- 8:44the mosque minaret and on the roof of
- 8:46Tahami's house. Tahami was still in his
- 8:50room, sweating. Still shaking with
- 8:52fever, muttering incomprehensible words
- 8:54. Black blood oozed from his eyes
- 8:57because of the stone. His eyes were
- 8:59burning like hot coals. Mother Halima
- 9:02was sitting by his head, holding a cold
- 9:04compress. Reading the protective surahs
- 9:06over him and crying. What's wrong, my
- 9:07son? Who hurt you? Did you eat
- 9:09something poisonous? Did he hit you? A
- 9:11cold brought on by going out at night.
- 9:12But Tahami was unconscious. Staring
- 9:16only at the ceiling. Seeing long, black
- 9:19shadows walking on the walls, their
- 9:22eyes bulging out. While Tahami was
- 9:24thrashing in his fever, the first
- 9:26vengeful blow struck the village. At
- 9:30ten in the morning, a scream rang out
- 9:32that terrified everyone. The scream of
- 9:35Uncle Idris. Uncle Idris, a poor farmer
- 9:37, was on his way to water the cornfield
- 9:40at the upper spring. People heard that
- 9:42scream and left their work running.
- 9:45They found Ba Idriss on his knees,
- 9:47hitting his face and pointing with a
- 9:49trembling hand toward a place near the
- 9:51water stream. There lay a young man
- 9:54named Allouch, the best friend of
- 9:57Touhami, who was with him yesterday at
- 10:00the ruins before they parted ways. The
- 10:03scene was horrifying in every sense of
- 10:06the word. Allouch was lying face down
- 10:09in the sewage water. But his head was
- 10:12twisted all the way toward his back, as
- 10:14if you had taken a doll and turned its
- 10:17head completely around. His eyes were
- 10:21wide open and bloodshot; they were
- 10:23popped out and scorched as if a burning
- 10:24stick had been shoved into them. And on
- 10:27his chest, there were five deep gouges.
- 10:31The people stepped back in terror.
- 10:34Whispers started: "Lord, have mercy,
- 10:37this isn't the work of a human.""Could
- 10:40it be a lion?""But a lion eats flesh;
- 10:43this one was killed without his flesh
- 10:45being touched." People lifted him up,
- 10:48each with their own theory. They took
- 10:50him home, washed him, and said they
- 10:52would bury him before investigating the
- 10:54matter. They hadn't even finished
- 10:56Allouch's burial at the cemetery before
- 10:58a second disaster struck elsewhere.
- 11:02Hamid, the third member of that
- 11:03drinking gang, was returning home after
- 11:05hearing about the death. Of his friend.
- 11:08He entered the stable to feed the
- 11:10cattle and lock the door. But suddenly,
- 11:12the animals went wild. The cows started
- 11:15ramming the walls and the donkeys were
- 11:17braying. His younger brother heard the
- 11:19noise and ran to the stable door. He
- 11:21found Hamid hanging by his feet from
- 11:24the wooden ceiling. The rope was tied
- 11:26in a strange knot that no human could
- 11:29make. He was choked with black sand
- 11:31that filled his mouth and throat all
- 11:33the way to his ears. Strange symbols
- 11:36were written on the wall with animal
- 11:38blood, along with star-like shapes and
- 11:40intersecting lines. His brother went to
- 11:42call the villagers who had just
- 11:44finished the burial and were on their
- 11:45way back. When they came and saw that
- 11:47sight, the village was shaken. Fear and
- 11:50terror entered every heart. People
- 11:52closed their shops. The women all went
- 11:54looking for their children and brought
- 11:56them inside. No one dared to go out
- 11:58after the Asr prayer. The Fquih, Si
- 12:01Bouchaib, gathered the men of the
- 12:03village at the mosque. He was sitting
- 12:06there with his prayer beads, his face
- 12:08showing deep distress. Haj Mamoun, an
- 12:10elderly and prominent man of the
- 12:12village, entered and said: "Si Bouchaib
- 12:14, what is happening in the village is
- 12:16not normal.""It has never happened that
- 12:18two boys die in one day in a way that
- 12:20even the authorities can't figure out."
- 12:22"Is this a plague, or some calamity
- 12:23sent down to us from heaven?" Si
- 12:25Bouchaib remained silent. He slowly
- 12:28raised his head and looked at the men
- 12:30who were all trembling with fear. He
- 12:32said to them: "This is not a plague,
- 12:34Haj Mamoun, this is not a normal death.
- 12:37""This is the stench of betrayal and
- 12:39forbidden blood.""Someone in the
- 12:42village committed a sacrilege and shed
- 12:44blood that should not have been shed.""
- 12:47And these who are taking revenge are
- 12:49not human; they are the masters of the
- 12:51earth and the tribes of the malicious
- 12:53Jinn." People jumped from their places.
- 12:55A young man named Boucha said to him: "
- 12:57And how do you know, Fquih, who did
- 12:59this act and where?" Si Bouchaib stood
- 13:02up and said to them: "Follow me to Sidi
- 13:04Majdoub's ruins." All the men followed,
- 13:07carrying water canisters and lanterns,
- 13:08until they reached the ruins near the
- 13:10old graveyard. Si Bouchaib stopped in
- 13:13front of the wall where Touhami had
- 13:14struck the cat. Si Bouchaib picked up
- 13:17some dirt from the ground and smelled
- 13:19it, finding the earth still charred
- 13:21black like burnt tar. He closed his
- 13:23eyes and began chanting verses from
- 13:25Surah Al-Jinn and Surah As-Saffat aloud
- 13:27. Suddenly, as he reached the verse, "
- 13:29And there were men from mankind who
- 13:31sought refuge in men from the jinn, so
- 13:34they increased them in burden." At that
- 13:37very moment, a dust storm erupted from
- 13:40the heart of the ruins. A loud hissing
- 13:43sound was heard from under the stones,
- 13:46like the sound of dozens of snakes
- 13:48slithering. Si Bouchaib opened his eyes
- 13:51and said to them: "Here, the blood of
- 13:53one of their kings was spilled.""And
- 13:55the one who killed it is someone from
- 13:57our village.""Blood cannot be washed
- 13:59away with water for the Bani Dahman
- 14:00tribe; they know no mercy when their
- 14:02vengeance is triggered." But that very
- 14:05night, the terror continued. The third
- 14:08victim was Jilali, a watchman. At dawn,
- 14:12they found his body hanging from a very
- 14:14tall oak tree; no one could have
- 14:15reached that high. His legs were burnt
- 14:18to the bone, and his body was swaying
- 14:20in the wind. The fourth victim was
- 14:24Maati, a simple man. He was going to
- 14:26the mosque for dawn prayer when he was
- 14:28snatched between his house and the
- 14:29mosque and thrown into an abandoned
- 14:31well. They found his neck broken and
- 14:33his eyes bulging, submerged in the
- 14:35water. As for the fifth victim, it was
- 14:37the greatest shock. It was Touhami Ould
- 14:40Rahal, a 60-year-old man and the elder
- 14:43of the tribe. They found the house
- 14:46locked from the inside, his body
- 14:47sitting on a chair, his face pale as
- 14:50ash. His heart had stopped from sheer
- 14:52terror. Beside him was a table with
- 14:54five black stones lined up. Those five
- 14:57stones were a clear message from the
- 14:59Bani Dahman tribe. "Five of yours are
- 15:02dead, and five more remain to reach ten
- 15:04." The village fell into a state of
- 15:06shock and absolute horror. People began
- 15:09to weep, fearing for their own lives.
- 15:10Some even started packing their
- 15:11belongings to flee. And the men
- 15:13wondered who the real culprit was that
- 15:15brought this calamity upon the village.
- 15:18At that moment, amidst the chaos, Si
- 15:20Bouchaib turned his gaze toward the
- 15:23house of Ami Halima. And he said loudly
- 15:25: "Get up and follow me to Touhami’s
- 15:27house.""The root of this fire is there.
- 15:30""And we must extinguish it there
- 15:31before it consumes us all." When Si
- 15:34Bouchaib set his foot on the threshold
- 15:36of the house, he was not alone. He had
- 15:38brought with him dozens of men from the
- 15:40village. Carrying lanterns and torches
- 15:42with them. And you could see fear and
- 15:44anger in their eyes. The house was
- 15:47silent, as if it were a funeral home.
- 15:50There was a foul odor and the scent of
- 15:53suffocating sulfur. To the point that
- 15:55some men felt like vomiting just
- 15:57standing at the door. Ami Halima was
- 15:59sitting in a corner. Holding her head
- 16:01with her hands and crying. Her tears
- 16:02were such that they seemed to have
- 16:04carved tracks into her cheeks. "Si
- 16:06Bouchaib, save me, you holy man, my son
- 16:09is dying.""My son’s tongue has become
- 16:10heavy, and his eyes have turned red
- 16:11like glowing embers.""He hasn’t eaten
- 16:13anything, and all night he has been
- 16:14screaming words I don't understand." Si
- 16:16Bouchaib said nothing. He pushed aside
- 16:19the burlap curtain. He entered the room
- 16:21where Touhami was sleeping. The men of
- 16:23the house followed him. The sight they
- 16:26saw made the bravest man in the village
- 16:29step back. And unconsciously testify
- 16:31with his finger. Touhami was not lying
- 16:34on the bed like a normal person. He was
- 16:37as if hunched, his head hanging down,
- 16:39his feet stuck to the wall. He was all
- 16:43swollen, with blue veins bulging and
- 16:45moving under his skin. As if thick
- 16:48worms were crawling under his flesh.
- 16:51His eyes were open as wide as they
- 16:53could go. But there was no white left
- 16:55in them; they had turned completely
- 16:57black, like the bottom of a well. As
- 16:59soon as Si Bouchaib entered, he raised
- 17:01his right hand. And said: "I seek
- 17:03refuge in Allah, the All-Hearing, the
- 17:05All-Knowing, from the accursed Satan."
- 17:07Suddenly, Touhami’s body levitated a
- 17:09span above the bed. His mouth opened,
- 17:13and a voice came out that was not his
- 17:15own. A deep voice, speaking with a tone
- 17:18that made the skin crawl. "You have
- 17:20arrived late, Si Bouchaib.""Dahman's
- 17:22blood is spilled, and our blood is only
- 17:25quenched by a sea of blood.""Five of
- 17:28you are gone, and five more will follow
- 17:30them before tomorrow's sun rises.""And
- 17:33your entire village will become a
- 17:35graveyard." Si Bouchaib planted his
- 17:38feet firmly on the ground. He did not
- 17:40blink. He pulled a small Quran from his
- 17:42pocket. He said: "Be silent, you enemy
- 17:44of Allah.""You are not the ones who
- 17:46control life spans, and Allah is
- 17:48dominant over His affair.""If a fool
- 17:50has transgressed, then justice is to be
- 17:52served rightfully.""And not by
- 17:53committing aggression against the
- 17:55innocent and the weak." The entity
- 17:57inside Touhami let out a demonic laugh.
- 17:59It made dust fall from the ceiling. "
- 18:02Our laws do not recognize your weak
- 18:04ones.""An eye for an eye, ten souls for
- 18:07one." And here began the great battle,
- 18:09the likes of which no one in the
- 18:11village had ever lived through. Si
- 18:13Bouchaib raised his voice with verses
- 18:15from Surah Yasin, Al-Jinn, and Ayat
- 18:17al-Kursi. He was reciting in a tone
- 18:19filled with certainty and steadfastness
- 18:20. "But when it descends in their
- 18:22territory, how evil is the morning of
- 18:24those who were warned." In that moment,
- 18:26the first demon of Touhami’s guards
- 18:28was burned. Black smoke poured from his
- 18:30ears and his mouth. Touhami shrieked
- 18:32like a slaughtered animal, writhing in
- 18:34pain. The first demon that had been
- 18:36holding his soul was burned, and that
- 18:38voice evaporated into the air. Like
- 18:40ashes. But outside the village, chaos
- 18:43had broken out. The tribe of Bani
- 18:45Dahman, after their first demon was
- 18:47burned, attacked the village with all
- 18:49their might. In an instant, the sky was
- 18:52covered in red clouds, like blood, and
- 18:54the lights went out. In the entire
- 18:55village. Screams began to be heard in
- 18:57every alley. The sixth human victim,
- 19:00the young man Boucha. Who was
- 19:02accompanying Si Bouchaib. He went out
- 19:04to get a bucket of cold water from the
- 19:06fountain. A minute hadn't passed before
- 19:07. They heard the sound of bones being
- 19:09crushed. They went out and found Boucha
- 19:11stuck to a fig tree. His back broken in
- 19:14half, and his limbs severed and hanging
- 19:16on the tree like a sheep on Eid. Si
- 19:18Bouchaib went straight to that tree,
- 19:20pouring water blessed with the Quran
- 19:21and sea salt, all while reciting verses
- 19:23. At that moment, a hissing sound came
- 19:26from the tree, and a blue flame ignited
- 19:28, burning the demon that committed the
- 19:30act until. He dissolved into the air.
- 19:32Which means the second killer from the
- 19:33jinn had fallen. The seventh and eighth
- 19:36human victims. Two farmer brothers,
- 19:38Hassan and Hussein. They were fleeing
- 19:40that night. Running, desperate to reach
- 19:41the mosque. Because they sensed the
- 19:43danger. Before they could reach the
- 19:44door. Stones fell upon them from the
- 19:46sky. Hot stones, like the embers of
- 19:48hell. Crushing their heads. They died
- 19:51instantly in front of the mosque door.
- 19:52At that moment, the mosque students and
- 19:55scholars inside refused to stay silent.
- 19:57They climbed up to the minaret. And
- 19:59began reciting Surah As-Saffat in a
- 20:00collective, thunderous voice. Spiritual
- 20:03strikes descended like lightning bolts.
- 20:04Two black silhouettes standing on the
- 20:06mosque roof exploded. They fell into
- 20:08the courtyard like embers. And
- 20:10evaporated. The ninth human victim was
- 20:13Zahra, daughter of Idris. She was at
- 20:15home, holding her little brother,
- 20:16weeping. Suddenly, she choked on black
- 20:19smoke coming from under the door. The
- 20:21smoke. Was not from any fire. It was a
- 20:23dark entity that choked her until she
- 20:24turned blue. She died without being
- 20:26touched by a blade or a stone. The
- 20:29fifth, sixth, and seventh casualties
- 20:31among the Jinn. Si Bouchaib entered
- 20:33their house. He took a handful of sand
- 20:35and recited: "And you threw not when
- 20:37you threw, but it was Allah who threw."
- 20:40He recited with protection. Three blue
- 20:42fires exploded in the air. And the
- 20:44terrifying wails of three from the Beni
- 20:46Dahman Marids were heard. Dying by fire
- 20:48through the blessing of God's words. It
- 20:50reached 3 AM. No one was asleep.
- 20:54Everyone was locked away, trembling.
- 20:56Nine of the village men and women had
- 20:59fallen. And fear had nested in every
- 21:02heart. And seven of the great Beni
- 21:04Dahman Marids were burned by the light
- 21:06of the Quran. At that exact time, at
- 21:08three in the morning, the most
- 21:10terrifying scene of the whole night
- 21:13occurred. Tohami, who was still locked
- 21:16in his house, acted as if the ropes
- 21:18binding him were severed. He stood up
- 21:21on his feet like a wild stallion. He
- 21:23ran out into the village square amidst
- 21:25that fog. But in the middle of that
- 21:27square stood Imran, the young mosque
- 21:30muezzin. He was calling the Adhan to
- 21:32repel the demons. Tohami attacked him
- 21:35with mad speed. And with bare hands,
- 21:37with a strength not belonging to a
- 21:39human. He choked the muezzin until he
- 21:41broke his neck. Thus, Imran fell as the
- 21:44tenth and final human victim. At that
- 21:47very moment, Si Bouchaib arrived, his
- 21:49eyes filled with tears of agony and
- 21:51grief for the muezzin. He ran to Tohami
- 21:54; he didn't strike him or anything. He
- 21:56placed his right hand directly on
- 21:57Tohami's forehead. And whispered in a
- 21:59reverent tone: "Indeed, the tree of
- 22:01Zaqqum, food for the sinful, like
- 22:02molten copper, boiling within the
- 22:04bellies like the boiling of scalding
- 22:06water." Tohami fell to his knees. And
- 22:09his mouth began to spew real ash. Three
- 22:11black shadows emerged from his chest;
- 22:13they were senior commanders of Beni
- 22:15Dahman. Those who had inhabited
- 22:17Tohami's body to lead the war were set
- 22:20aflame all at once. And screams were
- 22:22heard throughout the entire village.
- 22:24All three burned in mere seconds before
- 22:26the eyes of the remaining men of the
- 22:28village. And thus fell the eighth,
- 22:31ninth, and tenth casualties from the
- 22:33Jinn tribe. Everything went silent. The
- 22:37wind stopped. The fog began to lift. 10
- 22:41human souls had fallen. Ten heads of
- 22:44the most powerful Marid of the Bani
- 22:45Dahman tribe were consumed by the fire
- 22:47of the Holy Quran. The score was
- 22:49settled in blood. Al-Tahmi remained
- 22:51lying in the dirt, half-dead, between
- 22:53life and death. Suddenly, in the midst
- 22:56of that deadly silence, Wadi Arar split
- 23:00open with a faint sound. From the
- 23:03direction of the old spring, a pale
- 23:06white light emerged, announcing the
- 23:08arrival of the wise Muslim Jinn.
- 23:10Accompanying them was the leader of
- 23:11Bani Dahman, whose son had been killed.
- 23:13They came to demand an end to this
- 23:15slaughter that would consume everything
- 23:16. The silence that descended upon Douar
- 23:18Tizi at 4:00 AM was no ordinary silence
- 23:20. It was a funeral silence. Nine bodies
- 23:23from the village were lined up inside
- 23:25the mosque. The first one had just been
- 23:27buried. They were covered in white
- 23:29sheets. The men and women were all
- 23:31shedding tears. In contrast, the smell
- 23:33of gunpowder and burnt sulfur was still
- 23:35rising from the ground as a sign. A
- 23:37sign of the demons and the Marid of the
- 23:39Bani Dahman tribe who tasted torment.
- 23:42Blood paid for blood. The count reached
- 23:45ten against ten, but the war was not
- 23:47over yet. It was not going to leave a
- 23:49single living soul on the mountain. At
- 23:51that moment, in the darkness that began
- 23:54to lighten with the approaching dawn, a
- 23:56bright light appeared from the old
- 23:58spring in Wadi Arar. It was not like
- 24:01the red and blue fires that blazed in
- 24:03the night. The light was soft and calm,
- 24:05moving slowly toward the village square
- 24:07. The men stepped back, their hands on
- 24:10their weapons. But Si Bouchaib stood up
- 24:12and gestured with his hand. He said to
- 24:14them in a firm voice: "Lower your
- 24:16weapons.""Those who are coming now do
- 24:18not want trouble.""These are the wise
- 24:20believing Jinn who have come to seek
- 24:22justice." The light stopped a few steps
- 24:25from the threshold of the mosque. From
- 24:27it, two figures took shape. A figure of
- 24:30an old man in white robes with a
- 24:32snow-white beard. His face was full of
- 24:34light and serenity. And a figure of a
- 24:36tall being. His features were as sharp
- 24:39as rock. His eyes were glowing, yet he
- 24:41appeared devastated. He was wrapped in
- 24:44a cloak as black as the night. This was
- 24:46King Dahman, leader of the tribe and
- 24:48father of the slain Sakhr. The
- 24:51white-robed elder stepped forward and
- 24:52raised his hand in greeting. He spoke
- 24:54in a deep, gentle voice that everyone
- 24:57present could hear: "Peace, mercy, and
- 24:59blessings of God be upon you, O nation
- 25:01of Muhammad and bearers of the Book of
- 25:04God." Si Bouchaib bowed his head with
- 25:06the politeness of the learned and
- 25:07returned the greeting with an
- 25:09awe-filled voice: "And upon you be
- 25:10peace, and the mercy and blessings of
- 25:12God.""Who are you, and what has brought
- 25:14you after blood has flowed and the fire
- 25:16of strife has ignited between the
- 25:17children of Adam and the children of
- 25:19the Jinn?" The elder answered: "I am
- 25:22Abdullah, judge of the Muslim Jinn in
- 25:24this western mountain.""And this is
- 25:27Dahman, master of the clans of Wadi
- 25:29Arar.""We have come to stop the river
- 25:32of blood that your reckless one opened,
- 25:33and which the fools of Bani Dahman
- 25:35excessive in responding to.""Ten of
- 25:37your souls have perished without cause.
- 25:39""And ten of our most cherished leaders
- 25:42have perished by the light of the
- 25:43Ruqyah and the Quran.""The scales are
- 25:45balanced today.""If you wish, the war
- 25:48will continue until we all perish.""And
- 25:51if you wish, there shall be peace by
- 25:53the judgment of God and His Messenger."
- 25:55King Dahman lowered his head to the
- 25:57ground. He said in an angry voice: "You
- 25:59killed my son treacherously and
- 26:00unjustly while he was prostrating in
- 26:02his seclusion.""But the fools of my
- 26:04clan transgressed and crossed the
- 26:05limits of retribution and received
- 26:07their punishment by the burning of...""
- 26:09...their souls." Enough bloodshed, our
- 26:11homes have been ruined just as yours
- 26:14have. Si Bouchaib looked at the village
- 26:17elders and saw the people standing
- 26:19there, terrified. He said, "Judgment
- 26:21belongs to God alone, and
- 26:22reconciliation is best.""What are your
- 26:25conditions, and what are ours, so that
- 26:27the land and its people may be safe?"
- 26:29Then, in the middle of the square, a
- 26:32historic peace session began. An
- 26:34eternal treaty was established with
- 26:36solemn words and oaths to God Almighty.
- 26:38The first condition: the sanctity of
- 26:40places and boundaries. Oued Arar, the
- 26:42ruins of Sidi Medjoub, and the old
- 26:43cemetery. Lands forbidden to humans
- 26:46from sunset until sunrise. No drunkard
- 26:49shall approach them, nor shall any
- 26:51trespasser enter to cut a tree. The
- 26:53second condition: the sanctity of the
- 26:54village and its people. Douar Tizi,
- 26:56with its inhabitants, its houses, its
- 26:58mosque, and its waters. Is forbidden to
- 27:00the Bani Dahman tribe and all Jinn
- 27:02tribes until the Day of Judgment. They
- 27:05shall not possess a human, nor terrify
- 27:07a child, nor harm an animal. Upon them
- 27:09is the covenant and oath of God that
- 27:11their feet shall never touch. The
- 27:13village thresholds. The third condition
- 27:15: the blood of the murderer and the
- 27:17fate of Touhami. King Dahman asked
- 27:19about Touhami and said, "As for the one
- 27:21who committed the first sin, he shall
- 27:23live neither among us nor among you."
- 27:25Si Bouchaib turned to look at Touhami,
- 27:27who was still lying on the dirt. His
- 27:28body was burned from the incantations
- 27:30of the Ruqyah. His mind was no longer
- 27:32his own. Si Bouchaib said, "As for
- 27:35Touhami, God has punished him in his
- 27:37body and his mind; he is master of
- 27:39nothing, and he will not remain in this
- 27:41village for a single day." Judge
- 27:44Abdallah raised his hands to the sky
- 27:46and began to recite the covenant: "God
- 27:49and His noble angels bear witness
- 27:51between us, as does His Book, that this
- 27:53peace holds no treachery or betrayal.""
- 27:57Whoever transgresses after this, upon
- 27:58him is the curse of God, His angels,
- 28:00and all people, and he shall have the
- 28:01punishment of the fire." King Dahman
- 28:03pressed his palm into a white rock that
- 28:05was next to the water fountain. The
- 28:07rock melted, leaving behind his mark. A
- 28:09black handprint engraved as an eternal
- 28:11witness to the covenant. At that moment
- 28:13, the white light faded. And that black
- 28:16entity vanished. The silence of the
- 28:17mountain returned. With the first rays
- 28:19of the true dawn, the new muezzin
- 28:21climbed to the mosque's minaret. And he
- 28:23raised the call to prayer: "God is
- 28:25Great, God is Great." That call to
- 28:27prayer was like a balm, descending upon
- 28:29the broken hearts of the people. They
- 28:31performed the dawn prayer. And followed
- 28:32it with the funeral prayer for the
- 28:34souls of the ten who fell that night.
- 28:36And they buried them. Side by side in
- 28:38the martyrs 'cemetery at the entrance
- 28:39to the village. As for Touhami, he woke
- 28:42from his coma. But he did not wake up
- 28:44as he once was. He became mute, not
- 28:46uttering a single letter. His eyes just
- 28:48darted into the void; his mind was
- 28:50wiped clean. Completely; he spoke to no
- 28:53one. He took his tattered cloak and
- 28:55went wandering in the forests and
- 28:57valleys like a beast. He would not
- 28:59approach the village, nor would he
- 29:01approach the ruins. He remained living
- 29:02in the forest, a living lesson for
- 29:04anyone who. Would let their soul tempt
- 29:06them to transgress against God's
- 29:07creation without right. And dare to
- 29:09violate the boundaries of the unseen.
- 29:11The story of Douar Tizi ended and
- 29:12taught us that negligence and sin do
- 29:14not only destroy the perpetrator, but
- 29:16can bring ruin. Upon the entire land.
- 29:18And it taught us that the land has its
- 29:19sanctity. And the animal has its
- 29:21sanctity. And there is no weapon that
- 29:22protects a human being. From trials and
- 29:24darkness, the weapon is faith,
- 29:25remembrance of God, and holding to the
- 29:27truth in every step and blink of an eye
- 29:29. If you like the story, leave a like.
