  1. 0:00hi i'm greg gutfeld with jesse waters
  2. 0:02katy pavlich juan williams
  3. 0:04and she once had to put down on my
  4. 0:06little pony dana farino
  5. 0:07the five
  6. 0:15yesterday president biden signed four
  7. 0:18executive actions based on racial equity
  8. 0:21focusing on systemic racism in private
  9. 0:24prisons
  10. 0:25housing coveted relief and tribal
  11. 0:28relations
  12. 0:29apparently systemic racism is like
  13. 0:31oxygen it's everywhere you look
  14. 0:33and the solution is equity not equality
  15. 0:37equity even joe's using the word does he
  16. 0:40know what it means
  17. 0:42who knows which means it's time for
  18. 0:46greg explain stuff the media wishes
  19. 0:49you wouldn't understand not crazy about
  20. 0:52the hair
  21. 0:54equality as you know means you have the
  22. 0:57opportunity to try something even if
  23. 0:59you're bad at it
  24. 1:00i can try to play basketball i will suck
  25. 1:02but in america
  26. 1:04i have an opportunity to try just like i
  27. 1:06have the opportunity to become an
  28. 1:08electrical engineer
  29. 1:10a pipe fitter or a peloton instructor
  30. 1:13i would suck at those too but it's
  31. 1:14against the law to discriminate against
  32. 1:17me
  33. 1:18it's about equality of opportunity not
  34. 1:20equality of
  35. 1:21outcome which is what equity promises
  36. 1:24equality of outcome a reserved space
  37. 1:28based on the single variable of systemic
  38. 1:30discrimination
  39. 1:31your equity becomes an entitlement so
  40. 1:34even though i suck at basketball there
  41. 1:36should be a place for me
  42. 1:37in the nba equity not only ignores
  43. 1:40competence
  44. 1:41it reduces the diversity of talent that
  45. 1:43comes from opportunity as well as
  46. 1:44ignoring
  47. 1:45how people choose different things shall
  48. 1:47we create female quotas
  49. 1:49for loggers and roofers and garbage
  50. 1:51collectors and other male-dominated jobs
  51. 1:54even if women don't want them you know
  52. 1:56workplace death
  53. 1:57for men is 10 times higher than women
  54. 2:00do activists seek equity there or is it
  55. 2:03just the cush
  56. 2:04jobs they're after and of course with
  57. 2:06equity you you will need someone to
  58. 2:08decide who gets what
  59. 2:09and that's what this is really about
  60. 2:11power the power to remake society to
  61. 2:14placate the critical race theorist
  62. 2:16who works with only one variable revenge
  63. 2:19it's about the furthest you can get from
  64. 2:21unity not that joe would know
  65. 2:23or care
  66. 2:25[Music]
  67. 2:26all right juan i hope you appreciated my
  68. 2:29essay
  69. 2:30my question to you is if equity is about
  70. 2:34allocating resources
  71. 2:36to create equal outcomes how is that
  72. 2:38possible when every single person is
  73. 2:40different you're going to need
  74. 2:41laws quotas and force like you would
  75. 2:44have seen in ussr during their communist
  76. 2:47era
  77. 2:47if you want everybody to equal you need
  78. 2:49force
  79. 2:52uh let me tell you how i see this greg
  80. 2:54because it's really quite
  81. 2:55different i mean to me to my mind let's
  82. 2:58just look at it this way you know
  83. 3:00if you look at where the cities in
  84. 3:03america put incinerators where they put
  85. 3:05dumps uh you know even when they build
  86. 3:08highways it always goes through
  87. 3:10minority neighborhoods poor
  88. 3:11neighborhoods and the case the highways
  89. 3:14cutting them off from downtown and much
  90. 3:16of the economic activity of those
  91. 3:18places you think about things like
  92. 3:20government
  93. 3:21assistance for housing mortgage
  94. 3:23assistance after world war two
  95. 3:25student aid programs after world war ii
  96. 3:28overwhelmingly even
  97. 3:29farm aid farm bureau programs
  98. 3:31discriminated against black people
  99. 3:33in this country's history so biden to my
  100. 3:36mind greg it's not about
  101. 3:38guaranteeing any individual outcome what
  102. 3:41it's really saying is we need
  103. 3:43to make sure that the starting point for
  104. 3:45everyone
  105. 3:46is level that we're on a level playing
  106. 3:48field i mean this extends to childhood
  107. 3:51poor where poor quality schools are
  108. 3:53higher levels of
  109. 3:55unemployment and scarcity of jobs
  110. 3:58again to me this is really the problem
  111. 4:01that joe biden is talking about when he
  112. 4:03talks about equity making sure that
  113. 4:04government
  114. 4:05is playing fear for all people and you
  115. 4:08know
  116. 4:09to me it's it's a painful thing because
  117. 4:12it's plain for me to see
  118. 4:13in my life and i think it should be
  119. 4:15plain for everybody to see
  120. 4:17uh you know and i think when you talk
  121. 4:19about like how police treat black people
  122. 4:22and
  123. 4:22stuff like that it just it burns and
  124. 4:25hurts deeply when others say oh there's
  125. 4:27nothing going on here and it's just so
  126. 4:29plain for me to see
  127. 4:30yeah i think the thing is though that
  128. 4:31everything you just mentioned in the
  129. 4:33front of that commentary i would
  130. 4:35absolutely agree with you're talking
  131. 4:36about everybody having equal opportunity
  132. 4:38but equity builds into this idea of uh
  133. 4:42up um outcome equality which is
  134. 4:44absolutely impossible
  135. 4:46it's impossible by the way that's what
  136. 4:48he's talking about
  137. 4:50that's that's exactly what equity is
  138. 4:51defined as that's what makes it
  139. 4:52different than equality
  140. 4:54but anyway i agree with everything you
  141. 4:56said that's what we all want and
  142. 4:57discrimination is illegal
  143. 4:59and it should be dana no matter how hard
  144. 5:01you try to make it legal
  145. 5:03so dana here's what this is a different
  146. 5:05part of the equity equality thing that
  147. 5:08drives me crazy is that we
  148. 5:11uh we talk a lot about female equality
  149. 5:14in certain jobs
  150. 5:15but they never really talk about the
  151. 5:17jobs like loggers
  152. 5:19or those kind of jobs you always talk
  153. 5:20about ceos and cfos and
  154. 5:22football coaches but you never talk
  155. 5:24about the the ones where
  156. 5:26men are dying by you know the hundreds
  157. 5:28or thousands every year
  158. 5:30that's what you would call sweat equity
  159. 5:32i believe those jobs you have a lot of
  160. 5:34that
  161. 5:34i was trying to remember do you remember
  162. 5:36like about four months ago or so
  163. 5:38there was a controversy that bru came up
  164. 5:41and trump was involved in
  165. 5:42merriam-webster's dictionary changed the
  166. 5:44definition of the word
  167. 5:46um in order to conform to what the
  168. 5:49left wanted it to be and i feel like
  169. 5:51this equality equity thing and i'm glad
  170. 5:53thank you actually i feel like you've
  171. 5:54done a public service for all of us to
  172. 5:56explain
  173. 5:57all of this because it's like wait where
  174. 5:59did this word come from and did you
  175. 6:00catch
  176. 6:01joe biden today he was talking about
  177. 6:04equity in his speech and then he said
  178. 6:05equality and he's like
  179. 6:07equity yeah because it's not natural the
  180. 6:10one thing though that i didn't hear
  181. 6:11anyone talk about today
  182. 6:13from the white house is what's the main
  183. 6:16issue that you can deal with to ensure
  184. 6:18equality of opportunity
  185. 6:20which will get you to more equity and
  186. 6:22that is
  187. 6:23education k-12 education and
  188. 6:26to one's point one you're fortunate to
  189. 6:29have had
  190. 6:30a a mom and a the the drive that you had
  191. 6:33the education you had and you have made
  192. 6:34so much of yourself
  193. 6:36and you're here with us and we're so
  194. 6:37glad for that and i look at this across
  195. 6:39the country and think k through 12
  196. 6:41education
  197. 6:41it is not up to speed especially after
  198. 6:44the pandemic
  199. 6:45but that's how you get to equality and
  200. 6:48equity
  201. 6:49the last thing i would say is if you
  202. 6:51believe that america is an
  203. 6:52exceptional nation as many people in
  204. 6:55america believe
  205. 6:56but also so many people around the world
  206. 6:58they believe america is an exceptional
  207. 7:00nation and why because at least in
  208. 7:02america
  209. 7:03you would have a shot everyone would
  210. 7:05have a shot to try hard to work
  211. 7:07if you come here and you have a dream
  212. 7:09you have a business idea
  213. 7:11you can make it here unlike in many
  214. 7:14other places around the world most other
  215. 7:15places around the world
  216. 7:16mm-hmm and to your point about the
  217. 7:18teachers that we're going to be talking
  218. 7:19about that the b block the teachers
  219. 7:21unions
  220. 7:21are no help in this so jesse i wrote
  221. 7:24this monologue because of you
  222. 7:25i think it was you yesterday saying you
  223. 7:27didn't know what equity was and you
  224. 7:29didn't know why
  225. 7:30it was being so i wrote that for you was
  226. 7:31my instruction helpful
  227. 7:35well juan made a very convincing case
  228. 7:37greg but i think you made a better one
  229. 7:40and here's why if you read biden's
  230. 7:42speech
  231. 7:43from yesterday in print what he says is
  232. 7:46exactly what you said and it's very
  233. 7:48slick
  234. 7:49he says that all men are created equal
  235. 7:51but because of
  236. 7:52slavery and historical injustices
  237. 7:55some of us are not equal therefore we
  238. 7:57have to impose
  239. 7:59equity we have to impose a
  240. 8:02fair outcome in order to address
  241. 8:05these historical problems and if you
  242. 8:08disagree with any of that
  243. 8:10then you're discriminating against
  244. 8:12people and he puts susan rice
  245. 8:15on point for this and he even spells out
  246. 8:17who he's talking about
  247. 8:19racial minorities religious minorities
  248. 8:22indians and people that are in protected
  249. 8:25classes
  250. 8:26and he even spells out how he's going to
  251. 8:28do it greg
  252. 8:29he says housing is a right free housing
  253. 8:33he says he wants to have universal pre-k
  254. 8:36he says he wants certain people to have
  255. 8:38access to certain
  256. 8:40loans certain universities get special
  257. 8:42perks
  258. 8:43he says he wants to federalize the
  259. 8:45voting system in this country
  260. 8:47he wants to guarantee certain levels of
  261. 8:49health care
  262. 8:50so if you're looking at that that looks
  263. 8:52like back backdoor socialism
  264. 8:54and it kind of looks like to some people
  265. 8:57like it's backdoor reparations
  266. 8:59i don't think you can say that yet
  267. 9:01because it hasn't been
  268. 9:02implemented yet but the way it's so
  269. 9:04vague
  270. 9:05it leaves you to believe yeah i'm for
  271. 9:07this i'm for that i want everyone to be
  272. 9:09prosperous
  273. 9:10but when you see that susan rice is in
  274. 9:13charge
  275. 9:14and she's picking winners and losers
  276. 9:15with her lawyers and her bureaucrats
  277. 9:17and she's going to destroy you if you
  278. 9:19get in your way that doesn't sound very
  279. 9:22unifying and the federal government is
  280. 9:24so big so powerful
  281. 9:26and has the arm of the department of
  282. 9:27justice this affects hiring
  283. 9:30this this affects firing this affects
  284. 9:32buying selling contracts admissions
  285. 9:35this affects everything so when you look
  286. 9:38back and you see this might destroy the
  287. 9:40dollar because it's going to
  288. 9:41spend trillions of dollars why
  289. 9:44are we doing this greg donald trump's
  290. 9:47america first agenda lowered the black
  291. 9:50poverty rate to the first time
  292. 9:52under 20 percent had the black jobless
  293. 9:55rate to the lowest level
  294. 9:56ever exploded wages to the highest level
  295. 9:59in 60 years
  296. 10:00why wouldn't you want that capitalistic
  297. 10:02approach
  298. 10:03because they don't want capitalism they
  299. 10:05want socialism they want them to be in
  300. 10:07charge
  301. 10:08and that's the problem it's not going to
  302. 10:09work it's going to make them feel better
  303. 10:11but it's not going to work so katie last
  304. 10:14word to you what i think these the idea
  305. 10:16of centrist
  306. 10:16joe biden lasted all of 24 hours
  307. 10:20because this is about as far from the
  308. 10:22center as you can get
  309. 10:25you you were warned greg the problem
  310. 10:27with
  311. 10:28conflating equity and equality of
  312. 10:31opportunity is that equity
  313. 10:33actually requires that you discriminate
  314. 10:35against certain kinds of groups so we've
  315. 10:36seen this in academia
  316. 10:38with harvard getting sued for
  317. 10:39discriminating against asian
  318. 10:41students for example and i think that
  319. 10:43you have to look at it in the broader
  320. 10:44picture it's always
  321. 10:46talked about in this narrow lens of race
  322. 10:48but we've seen
  323. 10:50the mayor of baltimore who is is black
  324. 10:52the mayor of atlanta is black the mayor
  325. 10:54of chicago is black
  326. 10:56and for me when you look at it and break
  327. 10:57it down by population and where these
  328. 10:59problems
  329. 11:00are happening it looks more like a
  330. 11:01political class issue than it does
  331. 11:03a race issue and there's no
  332. 11:05accountability for the federal
  333. 11:06government spending
  334. 11:08trillions of dollars throughout the
  335. 11:09decades on these issues
  336. 11:11with no real return on investments and
  337. 11:13then of course you have
  338. 11:14the teachers unions not allowing for any
  339. 11:16kind of school choice which just
  340. 11:18enables this vicious cycle of poverty in
  341. 11:21these places while the federal
  342. 11:22government pretends that they're doing
  343. 11:23something about it
  344. 11:25that's a good point all right up next
  345. 11:26the biden white house siding with the
  346. 11:28teachers union
  347. 11:29refusing to return to classrooms even
  348. 11:31though the cdc
  349. 11:32just said it was safe
