- 3:18All right, let's do it. Bo, back on the
- 3:21show, man. How you doing?
- 3:22>> Good. How you doing, Jordan?
- 3:24>> I'm doing excellent. Listen, it's been
- 3:26about a year and we connected back up
- 3:30and decided, hey, we need to get an
- 3:32update on what has been going on because
- 3:35I know it's been an eventful year uh for
- 3:37you, but you're flying solo today.
- 3:39>> So, hopefully we can make it through
- 3:40this thing.
- 3:41>> Just the two of us. Yeah. If I start
- 3:43rambling, I don't have Liz to to reel me
- 3:45in. Just
- 3:47>> I know. Nobody's there to smack you if
- 3:48you need it. But you know what? Nobody's
- 3:50here to smack me either. So, we'll just
- 3:52have a good time.
- 3:53>> Yeah. [clears throat] three hour Joe
- 3:54Rogan podcast.
- 3:56>> That's right. That's [laughter] right.
- 3:58Uh All right. Cool, man. Well, hey,
- 3:59listen uh real quick. If you haven't uh
- 4:02listened to Bo's uh pre previous
- 4:05episode, Bo and Liz came on uh from
- 4:07Lotto's Laundry. Make sure you go back
- 4:09and check that out. Uh I'll put the
- 4:11number or the link to uh the podcast in
- 4:13the show notes. If you're on YouTube,
- 4:14it'll be down below. So, make sure you
- 4:16go check that out so you can hear their
- 4:18startup. But give us just like a very
- 4:20general brief rundown of you guys and
- 4:23your laundry business.
- 4:24>> Yeah, totally. Um, so yeah, um, I'm Bo.
- 4:27I'm one half of Lana's Laundry. My wife
- 4:29and I own Lana's Laundry. We started it
- 4:31on Bainbridge Island, Washington in July
- 4:35of 2024.
- 4:38Um, which just seems like a lifetime
- 4:39ago. Um, yeah. So, it's uh it's been uh
- 4:44we uh we started pick up and delivery
- 4:46only. Uh, initially we wanted to get a
- 4:48laundry mat was kind of the idea. There
- 4:49had been a laundromat on the island in
- 4:51like four four or five years and uh our
- 4:54goal was to get a laundry mat right
- 4:54away. We started to pick up a delivery
- 4:56cuz we knew we could just get going
- 4:58right away, right? So like Liz and I
- 4:59were very much just like doers. When we
- 5:01have an idea, we're going to send it and
- 5:03um yeah, we just got into it. It really
- 5:05took off. Um we started pre-arketing it
- 5:07before which is a lot in the other
- 5:09episode that we we chatted about. Go
- 5:10back to that and check it out. Um, we
- 5:12talked a lot about branding, about kind
- 5:13of early marketing pushes, organic
- 5:16marketing. You know, we we started this
- 5:17business on about $500. So, um, it was
- 5:20important for us to work, you know,
- 5:22taking it one step at a time and kind of
- 5:23letting it flow as it developed. And,
- 5:25um, you know, it caught on. We got had
- 5:27really good branding. Again, going back
- 5:29to our designers. So, um, we did all the
- 5:31branding ourselves. So, we feel like
- 5:32that was kind of a a good advantage that
- 5:34we had as well. We knew how to speak to
- 5:36the right person and, uh, yeah, we just
- 5:38got a lot of a lot of community support
- 5:40right away. you know, we couldn't have
- 5:40done it without our community and and
- 5:42and yeah, it took off and um in that
- 5:44first year, you know, we were one of the
- 5:47we're like top 1% on cents for pickup
- 5:49and delivery operators, which was like
- 5:51crazy to hear like when our you know,
- 5:52our customer manager called us and told
- 5:54us that and I was like sick. Like let's
- 5:56go and you know so it's and it's kind of
- 5:58you know we've just kind of been
- 5:59increasing every month and um yeah right
- 6:03now we're up to about four I think 40 45
- 6:05maybe recurring customers. Um so that's
- 6:08been nice. you know, a lot of our a lot
- 6:10of our business right now is recurring
- 6:11and we're continuing to do organic
- 6:12marketing to push lots and um yeah, so
- 6:16got to the point we just kind of things
- 6:18were rolling and you know, and we we
- 6:20took it into 2024 like you said 20, you
- 6:23know, 2025 was a while, you know, a long
- 6:26year for a lot of it was a lot of
- 6:27building that that happened for sure.
- 6:30>> Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Uh listen, you
- 6:32definitely go back and check this
- 6:34episode out. But I mean it was at
- 6:37definitely at the time and I think even
- 6:38since then it it was one where we did a
- 6:40real deep dive on branding and uh I
- 6:43would say it's actually worth watching
- 6:45that one if you're normally a listener
- 6:48uh just because they were pretty decked
- 6:50out in their brand uh during that
- 6:52interview as well. So they were just on
- 6:53brand. and we were talking branding and
- 6:55uh it was a really really good episode
- 6:57and and uh really demonstrated how uh
- 7:02how how a strong brand can help you
- 7:04build uh your business and you guys
- 7:06definitely have that. It's a strong
- 7:08brand for sure.
- 7:09>> Thank you.
- 7:10>> So, okay,
- 7:13you caught us up to last episode and you
- 7:16know a little bit more, but let's let's
- 7:18dig into this last year. uh what you
- 7:23know what what was kind of the goal for
- 7:252025 and and how did how did 2025 pan
- 7:30out for you?
- 7:31>> Yeah. Um the whole goal you know
- 7:33initially we yeah we put together a good
- 7:35three-year plan um you know with some
- 7:38aspects of just a lot of things we want
- 7:39to do in the future that we're still
- 7:41very much moving forward that we can
- 7:42kind of get into later. But yeah the
- 7:44goal with with 2025 was just um you know
- 7:48continued growth, continued market
- 7:49saturation. Um, I think we went from
- 7:52probably 100 customers in our in our,
- 7:55you know, um, our CRM, whatever you want
- 7:58to call it, to I think right now we're
- 7:59at about like 250. So, a lot of good
- 8:01growth within, again, the local
- 8:03community. Um, within that year, we
- 8:05definitely
- 8:07uh, wanted to see if we could kind of
- 8:09reach off the island as well. So, we're
- 8:11[clears throat] in a unique area. We're
- 8:12on the island kind of right across from
- 8:14Seattle, like west of Seattle, and it
- 8:16goes up into Kit County. So that's kind
- 8:18of peeling around and it comes back
- 8:20down. So really we have within, you
- 8:23know, 20 milesish of the island, we have
- 8:26like three big communities, right? So
- 8:28our goal is to kind of work our way up
- 8:30and around the peninsula. Um, and it all
- 8:32came like very naturally, like kind of
- 8:34just opening up routes to those areas.
- 8:36Um, and so we have some customers in
- 8:38PSBO now, we have some customers in
- 8:39Silverdale, we have some customers in
- 8:40Breton, and we're kind of just like
- 8:42letting we're letting that grow for a
- 8:44while. Um and and definitely got to the
- 8:47point of, you know, we just the orders
- 8:49kept coming and again, very grateful for
- 8:51our community, very grateful for all the
- 8:52people that want their dirty laundry
- 8:53done. Um that's what we're here for. Um
- 8:56we just continue to, you know, develop
- 8:57that brand trust and develop within the
- 8:59community. So again, going back to that
- 9:01old episode, we talked about a lot of
- 9:03stuff we did like dog treats, like thank
- 9:04you notes with everything, you know,
- 9:06those personal touches on like why
- 9:08people are coming to you over anyone
- 9:09else, right? Especially in a big city.
- 9:10You know, some people will be like, "Oh,
- 9:13well, you're, you know, you're on an
- 9:14island. You're a small community, blah,
- 9:15blah, blah." And, you know, it's harder
- 9:16in a metro. I, you know, I can
- 9:18understand there's a different way of
- 9:19approaching, you know, say you're in New
- 9:21York or LA, you know, we work with
- 9:22people in those areas. And it's a bit of
- 9:24a different approach, but the at the end
- 9:26of the day, like it's the same structure
- 9:28and the same systems that we can put in
- 9:30place um in those areas to to grow like
- 9:32we have. and and yeah, so the the goal
- 9:34was to just kind of slowly take, you
- 9:37know, creep into those markets and um
- 9:39things went good. But again, we just got
- 9:41super, you know, overworked like I think
- 9:43for a long time. Um I was telling you
- 9:45earlier, Jordan, like you step into this
- 9:48zone as like a founder and as a business
- 9:50owner, as an operator, and you're like,
- 9:52I got to do it all or like I got to
- 9:53oversee it all. Like I think one of the
- 9:55biggest like things you can do as an
- 9:57operator, as a founder is like trust in
- 9:59in people and bring on people to help
- 10:01you support a vision and support your
- 10:03growth and um and you know it's
- 10:05something we kind of hung on to very
- 10:06long. So I think at uh probably August
- 10:10of 2025 we were doing yeah like 3500 lb
- 10:13just Liz and I and it was like you know
- 10:17just not on it was a lot. It wasn't, you
- 10:21know, it was at a point where like again
- 10:23super happy with the growth that we like
- 10:24we got to keep the string going, but
- 10:26like you know, we weren't even we were
- 10:27so in it in the business, right? um that
- 10:30it was hard to take a step out and be
- 10:32like how how are we going to actually
- 10:33scale this thing cuz like you know we're
- 10:34getting to this this bottleneck and um
- 10:38and yeah, so that's when we kind of uh
- 10:40Liz came up with some good um ideas on
- 10:42on how to flip the business and at the
- 10:44end of the year we kind of transitioned
- 10:46the model a little bit where we were
- 10:47able to hire out able to hire washers,
- 10:49drivers um and really um you know the
- 10:53overall focus of the year too was to get
- 10:55into commercial space. We had so much
- 10:57trouble getting the commercial space
- 10:58that we, you know, um, we had to kind of
- 11:01diversify and think differently on how
- 11:03we can utilize local laundry mats and,
- 11:05you know, um, so we created some
- 11:07partnerships that were pretty good for
- 11:08us on some really new, you know, some
- 11:10clean new spaces that were on brand with
- 11:12what we could do and, um, and we kind of
- 11:15just grew that way. So, you know, we're
- 11:16getting to this point now where I'm, you
- 11:18know, we're starting to get in these
- 11:19other communities and um and we're, you
- 11:22know, able to give jobs to multiple
- 11:24communities now, which I think is just
- 11:25like really, really cool. And um the
- 11:27flexibility we're able to offer our
- 11:28employees and that's just been a whole
- 11:30new thing, you know, on top of growing
- 11:32100 businesses, like we were talking
- 11:33about earlier, like coming into the the
- 11:35staffing side of it. Um you know, it's a
- 11:39it's very grateful for for for where
- 11:41we're at now and um just like super
- 11:43excited for where we're going next, too.
- 11:44We got a lot of a lot of big plans for a
- 11:47lot of us and where I think we can take
- 11:48this brand and um and and what we can do
- 11:50for the industry like so super excited
- 11:53about you know that. But that's kind of
- 11:54like a recap of the year. It was
- 11:55definitely like high um just high
- 11:59intensity like you know laundry every
- 12:02single hour um while growing the
- 12:04business, right? remarketing and um you
- 12:07know yeah getting into a little more
- 12:08into email and SMS marketing and and
- 12:11retargeting and stuff without trying to
- 12:13you know annoy people and um learned a
- 12:15lot this this year within this business
- 12:17specifically too. So
- 12:19>> yeah that yeah that's and we'll we'll
- 12:22kind of dig into some of that too uh
- 12:25>> there but you know just for context for
- 12:27people you know like an efficient system
- 12:32you know
- 12:33>> maybe doing like 35 to 40 pounds of
- 12:36laundry an hour in kind of an efficient
- 12:39system of just like processing time
- 12:41that's not like running routes pickup
- 12:43and delivery kind of all that
- 12:45>> sort of the transitions between
- 12:47everything. So, I mean, you're looking
- 12:48at 90 to 100 hours strictly
- 12:51in an efficient system of processing
- 12:54laundry. So, you can see where that can
- 12:56get pretty overwhelming pretty quick,
- 12:57especially if you're doing pickup and
- 12:58delivery
- 12:59>> and you're bootstrapping it, right? And
- 13:01one of the one of the things we talked
- 13:02about last time was how you guys were
- 13:03kind of bootstrapping it. You mentioned
- 13:05you started with 500 bucks, which is
- 13:07awesome.
- 13:08>> Uh, and you know, but
- 13:12you know, when you're starting a
- 13:14business, you're generally speaking,
- 13:17you're either starting with a whole
- 13:19bunch of money to put into it and invest
- 13:21into it.
- 13:22>> Yeah.
- 13:22>> Or a whole lot of time and effort and
- 13:24energy and or both.
- 13:26>> Uh or both. Yeah. Or both.
- 13:30>> And most likely it's some sort of
- 13:31combination of the two.
- 13:33>> Uh [laughter]
- 13:34>> yeah. And so, you know, I mean, just
- 13:37driving driving hard if you're doing
- 13:393500 lb. Uh you know, driving hard for
- 13:42just the two of you guys. So, uh, I
- 13:44mean, you mentioned that you at some
- 13:46point Well, let's back up. So, first of
- 13:48all, I mean, was there any new lessons
- 13:51or anything that you learned in terms of
- 13:53growing it, scaling it to 3,500 pounds
- 13:56of laundry?
- 13:57>> Yeah, absolutely. I think that like
- 13:59probably one of the first things that
- 14:01was hardest for for me was like um I'm
- 14:05you know, like uh I I'm not going to say
- 14:08a perfectionist, but like I you know, I
- 14:09I would expect laundry a certain way.
- 14:11So, like there's been a lot of
- 14:12situations where a customer wants, you
- 14:14know, um, so like for instance, a couple
- 14:16of our commercial accounts like they do
- 14:17sheets sheets, towels, stuff like that.
- 14:19They don't want them folded. They want a
- 14:20better price for not having them folded.
- 14:22I cringe every time I put that order out
- 14:24cuz I'm like, this is not how I would
- 14:26like want our company to be represent.
- 14:28You know what I mean? But like, so like
- 14:29I think one of the big things I would
- 14:31take away from that is like just meeting
- 14:33people where they are and and really
- 14:34like serving for your customer and not
- 14:36necessarily always for like the system
- 14:39of how you do things, right? Like so
- 14:40like again like kind of meeting people
- 14:41in the middle. Like I think that's been
- 14:42a big thing of like understanding that
- 14:45like you know people are trusting you
- 14:47with their laundry and they also want
- 14:48stuff a certain way. So again like being
- 14:50very accepting of of that process. um
- 14:52instead of being like this is how I'm
- 14:54going to have to grow you know like in
- 14:55the beginning I think you have to make
- 14:57you know and and some people would argue
- 14:59like customers always first and yeah
- 15:01like that's the the mentality or
- 15:03whatever but you know I think it's
- 15:05important to really meet them where
- 15:06they're at on on what they want how they
- 15:08want it and how they want that service
- 15:10cuz you also learn a lot from those
- 15:12situations too like oh okay and it's a
- 15:14benefit for for us too right like we can
- 15:16spend less time on an order and and
- 15:18they're happier and you know so it's
- 15:19it's kind of like understanding those
- 15:21like weird nuances of of adjusting your
- 15:24business for sure. Um yeah, and then
- 15:26like [clears throat] definitely the one
- 15:27like I wish I would we would have hired
- 15:28help a little earlier, you know, like um
- 15:30I think everyone says that or whatever,
- 15:32but the trust we've been able to put
- 15:34into our employees has been huge um for
- 15:36our, you know, growth in this, you know,
- 15:38last half of the year and first quarter
- 15:41of of this year so far. And um so again
- 15:43like taking a step back. It's so hard to
- 15:46like be in your business and and take a
- 15:48step out and kind of like take a breath
- 15:50and understand like oh wow okay this is
- 15:52maybe what's happening and and be able
- 15:53to take advice from people too. Like I
- 15:55think we've done a lot of advice taking
- 15:57and and dr the the crappy noise but like
- 16:00you know take the good noising for sure.
- 16:03>> Yeah. Yeah. What where are these
- 16:05customers coming from? you know, I know
- 16:08you do a lot of like organic stuff, but
- 16:09like where where are you finding these
- 16:11guys?
- 16:12>> Yeah, so I mean a lot of um a lot of
- 16:13what we're getting now within this last,
- 16:16you know, I'd say like five months has
- 16:17been a lot of word of mouth. Um you
- 16:19know, again, so we're in a smaller
- 16:20community. I think there's about um
- 16:23don't quote me on this, but I believe
- 16:24it's about around 20,000 25,000 in
- 16:26Bbridge. So um then Kitap as we're
- 16:29getting wider into Kitap, we're we're
- 16:31really opening up the market, but a lot
- 16:32of it's been word of mouth in this past
- 16:345 months. um initial things that we did,
- 16:37you know, yard signs. You can have yard
- 16:39signs in certain locations for so long.
- 16:41So, a lot of like old school marketing,
- 16:42too. Again, mailbox tags, door tags,
- 16:45like the stuff that like is like boots
- 16:46on the ground, like you know, walking
- 16:48through neighborhoods, like the old
- 16:50school stuff. And that's how we've
- 16:51really captured a local community.
- 16:53Networking events, chamber events, um
- 16:55just putting ourselves out there like
- 16:57has been the biggest, you know, jump for
- 17:00us. Obviously, we have social um that's,
- 17:02you know, a good driver for us as well.
- 17:04But, you know, a lot of um the uh the
- 17:07residential outreach is just from like
- 17:10um repetition of of putting ourselves in
- 17:14in every area at once. Like I think back
- 17:16I think in 2025 we probably were at
- 17:2010 local events probably um you know
- 17:23throughout the year like big sponsors.
- 17:25So like we sponsored the Fourth of July
- 17:27um parade in Bainbridge. Um that was a
- 17:30big one for us and we did uh like an end
- 17:33of year auction gala for like a
- 17:34fundraiser, you know. So really just
- 17:36getting getting our name out there over
- 17:38and over and over and over has been a
- 17:39big big driver for us to get that
- 17:41community trust and community
- 17:42recognition. Um and then yeah the the
- 17:45brand like we can't miss the pink sign,
- 17:47right? like
- 17:49>> everyone always says like when they
- 17:50first see you know me here or when I'm
- 17:52talking to someone like oh I see your
- 17:53peak signs everywhere it's like perfect
- 17:56like you know what I mean so really just
- 17:57like getting getting out there and
- 17:59getting getting in front of people and
- 18:01just continuing to you know put it out
- 18:03there and um I'm a big believer in you
- 18:06know putting out putting out you getting
- 18:08what you what comes back and so like I
- 18:10think our our mission the whole time has
- 18:12just been like to open up people's
- 18:14schedules right and to give them back
- 18:16their time and and sticking true like
- 18:17what what we do and why we do it has has
- 18:20again given us you know a lot of trust
- 18:22within the community and and you know
- 18:23trust goes a long way this person tells
- 18:25this person you know it's the old school
- 18:27method of like two people tell four
- 18:29people and you know it it truly works
- 18:30like that right so and I know that can
- 18:33happen in like any community you know
- 18:34it's not um not just the small
- 18:36communities for sure you know
- 18:38>> yeah yeah
- 18:41well and I think you guys have done a
- 18:42really good job I mean obviously of like
- 18:44branding but also just a really good job
- 18:46of Like, you know, branding is one
- 18:48thing. I kind of learned this the hard
- 18:50way my first laundromat ride is like you
- 18:52can you can remodel or retool your
- 18:55laundromat, make it a whole lot nicer.
- 18:57You could have a really nice brand or
- 18:58whatever, but then if you don't get in
- 19:01front of people and people don't know
- 19:02about it, it's all
- 19:04>> for nothing. [laughter] It's all for
- 19:05nothing, right?
- 19:06>> And so, you guys do a really good job of
- 19:08getting in front of people in the
- 19:09communities that you're serving.
- 19:11>> Yeah, it's really important. It's always
- 19:12just been from the start like one of our
- 19:13main, you know, one of the main ways we
- 19:15knew we were going to kind of capture
- 19:17the market. Like I said, we've had
- 19:18experience doing this with other
- 19:19businesses. And you know, for for those
- 19:22that haven't got on the past episode,
- 19:24Liz and I are entrepreneurs. So I think
- 19:26um Lana was like our fifth business we
- 19:28started and some failed miserably and
- 19:30some are still going in the background
- 19:31today, right? So um it's uh you just
- 19:35it's been a huge learning experience for
- 19:36sure and been cool to like see okay what
- 19:39if we take this idea that we know works
- 19:40in this business and bring it over here
- 19:42and and again like that lived experience
- 19:45is is how we lead and a lot of like
- 19:47again the people that we we talk to or
- 19:49we help out or you know it's it's all
- 19:51based on like lived experience right and
- 19:53I think that's in a world that's as you
- 19:56know you do you know you do consulting
- 19:58and you have the community it's like
- 19:59it's it's there's a lot of bad out there
- 20:02too. Um, you know, just stuff like
- 20:05people just trying to like shove down
- 20:06your throat and I think you nailed it on
- 20:08the head like,
- 20:09>> uh, you know, it's people often think,
- 20:12yeah, the biggest baddest machines are
- 20:14what gets you there. And it's like it's
- 20:16just not the case at all. Like you could
- 20:18have co I know people that are thriving
- 20:20doing 40 $50,000 are coin machines
- 20:22still. You know what I mean? Like it's
- 20:23it's not like it's not like old
- 20:25technology. Like that just makes your
- 20:26life easier. But you have to actually
- 20:28have systems before you do that [ __ ]
- 20:29because or else it's going to all be
- 20:30out. But students use the language like
- 20:33but it's all going to be out the window
- 20:34like if you don't have the system in
- 20:35place first or understand the the
- 20:38structure behind like how you get
- 20:39business. Yeah. It's like that's not
- 20:41going to do anything for you. So yeah, I
- 20:43appreciate you nodding to the branding
- 20:45because it it is like so so important.
- 20:48um and it's what we've led with this
- 20:50whole time and and you know again it's
- 20:52what differentiates you from the you
- 20:55know so and so doing it as a side hobby
- 20:57or these bigger companies like Poplin
- 20:59and Happiness and you know nothing
- 21:01against them but like you know there's
- 21:03there's a sense of you know of localness
- 21:05that again people I think will still you
- 21:08know especially increasing with with the
- 21:10way you know AI is going and everything
- 21:11I think people are going to lean more on
- 21:13on local you know especially in those
- 21:16communities like people like local
- 21:18people that are doing honest work.
- 21:19That's kind of what what we kind of
- 21:21embody at Lis for sure.
- 21:23>> Yeah. Yeah. Well, I know with uh with
- 21:27scaling and growing the business comes
- 21:31growing pains and so you know I mean you
- 21:35mentioned you you've
- 21:37now brought on some people. Uh, number
- 21:40one question about that is how did you
- 21:43know when it was time to bring some
- 21:45people on to help you?
- 21:47>> Yeah. So, like I said, I think that was
- 21:48like one of the things is like um we've
- 21:52gotten better at is is is laying out
- 21:54those things prior and like
- 21:56understanding where your bottlenecks
- 21:57are, right? So, I think to to fast
- 22:00forward and it'll come back like we we
- 22:02we went way too long without hiring
- 22:04people, right? So like we we got to the
- 22:07point where we had to stop marketing
- 22:08because we didn't have time to market
- 22:09and you know like we've talked about in
- 22:11that last episode too like when you once
- 22:13you take your foot off the gas that's
- 22:14much force than even not starting to be
- 22:17honest like you know what I mean like
- 22:20>> free like you lose momentum and
- 22:23especially when it comes to like social
- 22:24and stuff like that all those apps work
- 22:26you need to keep the momentum and um
- 22:28same with like SEO on your website if
- 22:30you're in more of a crowded area so like
- 22:31once you lose that momentum it kind of
- 22:33sucks. So knowing those bottlenecks,
- 22:35right? Like so again like working with
- 22:37people now we're able to be like okay
- 22:39this is where we saw trouble. Okay we
- 22:41know it you know 18 18 orders or 18
- 22:44customers like weekly customers that's
- 22:46when you need to bring in you know x
- 22:48amount of employees. you should expect
- 22:49to be paying those employees x amount of
- 22:51dollars for and like you're saying they
- 22:53should be able to get to 30 pounds in an
- 22:55hour 15ish, you know, time and and
- 22:58really having those benchmarks and
- 22:59bottlenecks. So, you know, like, okay,
- 23:01we're getting to 15, we're getting to 15
- 23:04recurring customers. We know we hit $3
- 23:06bottleneck. Let's start looking for
- 23:07someone, looking for help. Um, and then
- 23:10once you can get those systems dialed,
- 23:11when you need to to hit those
- 23:13benchmarks, it's like it's clockwork,
- 23:14right? It's like, okay, ad goes out for
- 23:16hiring someone, bring someone in, you're
- 23:18in, now we scale to this next kind of
- 23:20point of of, you know, um, deference, I
- 23:24guess. But so I think being able to sit
- 23:26back after going through such a growth
- 23:30period of a year, being able to step
- 23:32back and and I'll give the credit to Liz
- 23:34cuz she's really good at, you know,
- 23:35seeing that vision and and understanding
- 23:38kind of where problems are going to
- 23:39arise based on problems we've had in the
- 23:41past that are kind of, you know, pattern
- 23:43pattern recognition, right? It's u
- 23:45that's that's going to be a big part of
- 23:47I think us being able to scale this
- 23:49business to, you know, the heights we
- 23:51see it going. U but yeah, I'd say like
- 23:53advice-wise like I'd just say like
- 23:56planning beforehand is is is huge. Just
- 23:58kind of planning. It's not like planning
- 24:00worst case scenario type stuff, but
- 24:02understanding that like what your limits
- 24:04are and and how you're going to kind of
- 24:06fill those gaps and and I always tell
- 24:08everyone too like um I uh I believe it's
- 24:12like I heard on like a Mel Robbins
- 24:14podcast is is she was saying like um
- 24:16it's like focus on your it's like your
- 24:18ABC work, right? So like your A work is
- 24:20something like you could do lights out,
- 24:22eyes closed, sleeping, like it's 100%
- 24:25you excel extremely at that work. And
- 24:28then there's your B and your C work,
- 24:29right? So your B is kind of like I'm
- 24:31good at it, but like you know I could be
- 24:32doing better things in my time and your
- 24:34C is like I don't need to be touching
- 24:36that at all. Right? So understanding
- 24:37like where you really thrive staying in
- 24:40that part of your business and hiring
- 24:42for the other part of your business cuz
- 24:43like best case scenario you're going to
- 24:44continue to grow, right? I think hiring
- 24:47and and marketing or you know finding
- 24:49the right people and then and then
- 24:50marketing your business in a at the very
- 24:52least just a consistent manner you know
- 24:55not to be like all allstar but like if
- 24:57you can even market in a consistent
- 24:58manner especially in this industry like
- 25:01if you're already you know again top 10%
- 25:05type situation just because like there's
- 25:08just there's not a lot of attention in
- 25:10it and that goes for like a lot of
- 25:11industries but this one specifically no
- 25:13sh no shade to the industry but I
- 25:15Everyone knows that like get.
- 25:18>> Yeah. Well, it you know it's really
- 25:20interesting uh you know just hearing how
- 25:22it's gone, right? Because there's
- 25:24>> there's different challenges and then
- 25:26there's different hurdles getting from
- 25:28one stage of your entrepreneurship
- 25:30journey to the next to the next to the
- 25:32next, right? And when you get started,
- 25:35>> you know, you talk about your ABC tasks,
- 25:37right? They're all yours. If you're
- 25:39going to bootstrap, right? And you own
- 25:42all of them. you better want to do it,
- 25:44great, do it. If you don't want to do
- 25:45it, too bad, do it, right? Like, it's
- 25:48got to be done. You got to do all of
- 25:49them. Um, but, you know, once you start
- 25:52getting momentum, one of the great
- 25:54things about being sort of a
- 25:55bootstrapped, you know, entrepreneur
- 25:58where you're basically solo or, you
- 26:01know, uh, you know, a tag team
- 26:03partnership or whatever is you have a
- 26:06lot of control over your business,
- 26:08right? and and a lot of people want to
- 26:11leave their 9 to5 you know they want to
- 26:15you know do do you know get into the
- 26:18laundry game laundry laundromats or pick
- 26:20up and delivery or both uh to to get
- 26:23sort of that freedom and control over
- 26:24their life right well the irony of all
- 26:27this is that once you get to that phase
- 26:30where you're overworked you're exhausted
- 26:33you're tired of doing all like you're
- 26:35you're burning out right like and that
- 26:37happens pretty commonly
- 26:39and you realize you need help.
- 26:41>> The the hurdle, the thing you have to
- 26:44give up
- 26:45>> is the very thing that you wanted in the
- 26:49first place, right? Is that control.
- 26:50You've got to give up some control of
- 26:51your business. Yeah.
- 26:52>> And give it to somebody else. And
- 26:54there's obstacles and hurdles to
- 26:56overcome with doing that, you know,
- 26:57mentally for yourself, but also like
- 26:59just very practically,
- 27:01>> you know, and you know, we talked a
- 27:02little bit about some of it like quality
- 27:04control and, you know, SOPs and all that
- 27:07stuff where uh you've got to kind of
- 27:09solve those, but but every phase is like
- 27:13you work really hard to get one thing
- 27:14and then almost every next phase almost
- 27:18across the board, the very thing you
- 27:21work really hard to get, the freedom,
- 27:23the control, the, you know, you've got
- 27:25to, you got to give that very thing up
- 27:28to get to the next level, right? And
- 27:30then you get to the next level and
- 27:31you're like, "Okay, it's not so bad. The
- 27:33employees are good. They've been trained
- 27:35now. We're rolling. We're smooth. I'm
- 27:38ready to expand my territories. I'm
- 27:40ready to add some locations or, you
- 27:42know, whatever the case may be. Um but
- 27:45but a lot of times the very thing that
- 27:47you've gained by adding employees which
- 27:49is more free time and more freedom you
- 27:51got to give up again so that you can
- 27:53scale to the next level. Right? So the
- 27:55it just kind of goes on and on and it
- 27:57requires these pivots and these changes
- 27:58let alone new skill sets. Uh and it it's
- 28:02what makes entrepreneurship
- 28:05difficult. It's so hard. That's why
- 28:07[laughter] such a I like Liz and I were
- 28:09just having a conversation last night.
- 28:10is like it's such a mind game like I
- 28:13mean you could call that with any
- 28:14business you know business owners too
- 28:16you know aside from entrepreneurs like
- 28:18you know you say entrepreneurs is
- 28:20obviously like you know there's the
- 28:22multiple aspect of like building
- 28:23multiple things at once and you know
- 28:25business owner being I'd say like a
- 28:27business owner is often stuck as a
- 28:29business owner like you're saying um
- 28:31control is a huge thing but you know we
- 28:32were just talking the other night it's
- 28:33like it's it's it's just wild like it's
- 28:36such a it's such a mental game you know
- 28:39like understanding And like one minute
- 28:41you could be like literally up here, the
- 28:43next minute you're like literally down
- 28:44here. And so it's uh but it's it's you
- 28:47know it's fun. There's a lot of a lot of
- 28:50joy and like purpose and um
- 28:53self-discovery and you know so I mean so
- 28:56many things happen at once being being
- 28:58in this business and being you know I'm
- 29:00grateful for being in a position like
- 29:01this to be able to to kind of craft
- 29:04craft where we want to take things and
- 29:05and and make the calls. But like you're
- 29:07saying, it's like it's so important to
- 29:09get to get people in place to to help
- 29:12you continue. You have you have to trust
- 29:14in people. Like you you have to take a
- 29:16chance on people just, you know. Um and
- 29:19I kind of think about it when when we're
- 29:21I would want to be taking a chance on
- 29:23like I would want someone to take a
- 29:24chance on me, right? So like I need to I
- 29:26need to live that live that same mantra
- 29:28and trust in people and if it doesn't
- 29:30work out, it doesn't work out. Like you
- 29:31know what I mean? And um and and having
- 29:32that like let go of control is is like
- 29:37um it's freeing and and scary as
- 29:41you know it's so scary the same.
- 29:43>> Yeah. Yeah, it is.
- 29:45>> It is. And and it's tough too. I mean
- 29:48you're you nailed it, right? Like it is
- 29:50a mind game. Uh just the roller coaster
- 29:53of
- 29:55trying to build a business, run a
- 29:57business is
- 29:58>> decisions, decisions. Yeah, it's it's
- 30:01crazy. I mean, it literally it's why we
- 30:03started, you know, I I joined some
- 30:05mastermind groups. Um, and I'm still a
- 30:07part of some mastermind groups both in
- 30:09the industry and out of the industry.
- 30:11That's why we started offering
- 30:13uh mastermind groups is because
- 30:16you know one of the things I found is
- 30:18that you know non entrepreneurs non-
- 30:22business owners don't understand what
- 30:25you're going through when you're like
- 30:27you know my wife even sometimes like you
- 30:30know for me like things will start going
- 30:32really well
- 30:34>> and then I get depressed for some reason
- 30:36like I don't know why like I don't know
- 30:37why and she's like why are you depressed
- 30:39like things are going really well you
- 30:40just like got new clients or you know
- 30:42whatever the is going on, right? They're
- 30:45like, "Yeah, I don't know." Like
- 30:47>> this other thing that's happening or you
- 30:49done?
- 30:49>> Yeah. [laughter] Or like, "Yeah, I
- 30:51gained it grew, but I I want it to be
- 30:54even bigger, right? So, I'm depressed
- 30:55because it's not as big as I want it to,
- 30:57you know, or whatever." Like, it's just
- 30:58a mind game, dude. It's crazy.
- 31:00>> That's me telling you, you mentioned
- 31:01this to our launch owners and not just
- 31:03pick up delivery or like they're about
- 31:04to launch pick up delivery. They have
- 31:05launched big up delivery. It's going
- 31:07nowhere. And you know like um there's
- 31:09there is this degree of like um
- 31:14you know uh like you have to um you just
- 31:18have to be like very very into what
- 31:20you're doing like to to make to make
- 31:22this work at the end of the day. Like
- 31:24>> yeah. um you you have to have kind of
- 31:26that um undeniable confidence that that
- 31:29that it's going to work out and and and
- 31:31yeah, knowing that those those like you
- 31:33you you live the life that you focus on,
- 31:35right? So like it's important to to
- 31:37continue to to take in the wins each day
- 31:39and understand that growth comes, you
- 31:41know, in many different ways. You know,
- 31:42I think that like taking a step back and
- 31:45um hiring people, people could even be
- 31:47like, "Oh, well, now I'm making less
- 31:48money." Or, you know what I mean? Or
- 31:49whatever it may be, but like that's a
- 31:51stage of growth, right? So like um just
- 31:53kind of taking the strides as they go
- 31:54has been a huge thing for us this year
- 31:56too. And and just like trying not to
- 31:58like I think a lot of people start
- 31:59businesses and they're like yeah I want
- 32:01to be making $10 million a yearund you
- 32:03know $1 million a year whatever it is
- 32:05like I want this in sales and it's like
- 32:07just let life come to you. I think is
- 32:10what I've been discovering this past,
- 32:11you know, year or two is like it's it's
- 32:13it's so easy to be like, I want this and
- 32:15this is the only thing that's achievable
- 32:17as like the gold medal or whatever, but
- 32:18it's like you focus so hard on getting
- 32:20there that you skip a lot of the steps.
- 32:23>> And that's been a big thing for us this
- 32:25year is understanding like or in this
- 32:27past year is understanding like, you
- 32:28know, we have to let it come to us. we
- 32:30have to, you know, make the right
- 32:31partnerships and and there's there's a
- 32:33deeper understanding to how we're going
- 32:35to get to where we want to get and it
- 32:36doesn't have to happen, you know,
- 32:37overnight cuz yeah, like you said, it's
- 32:39like it's this wild ride of like I could
- 32:41be doing this though, you know, I could
- 32:42be getting to this and it's like, well,
- 32:44you'll get there, right? Just let it
- 32:46come like, you know what I mean? Keep
- 32:48keep running your outs and stuff. So,
- 32:50yeah.
- 32:51>> Yeah. Well, and this this whole thing is
- 32:54about
- 32:55who we're becoming. Like you could
- 32:57somebody could hand you a business that
- 33:00makes you know $10 million a year and
- 33:03unless you've done the hard work of
- 33:05becoming the kind of person who can run
- 33:06a $10 million
- 33:08>> business like you're just you're going
- 33:10to fumble it
- 33:12>> because it it it takes
- 33:16>> some wisdom and it takes some experience
- 33:18and it takes some knowledge to be able
- 33:19to you know whatever. It doesn't have to
- 33:22be a $10 million $100,000 business, a
- 33:24$10,000 business. If you're starting
- 33:26brand new,
- 33:27>> you know, from scratch. You're going to
- 33:29run through a whole bunch of mistakes
- 33:30and errors and fumble your way through
- 33:33it. And, you know, if you're lucky, you
- 33:34got somebody to help you guide you
- 33:36through it so you can avoid some of
- 33:37those things and speed up the process a
- 33:39little. But there's no getting around
- 33:42having to make a bunch of bonehead
- 33:44decisions and missteps and losing money
- 33:48and you know all that stuff
- 33:51>> because it's part of the process of
- 33:52becoming who you need to be to be able
- 33:55to go to the next step. Uh so I mean I
- 33:59think that's why it's important you
- 34:00don't
- 34:00>> skip the steps that you don't
- 34:03>> rush too much and
- 34:05>> Yeah.
- 34:05>> Yeah. And it's like you said, there's
- 34:06like so many levels of inflection.
- 34:08There's these inflection points where
- 34:10like yeah, if you're skipping them,
- 34:11you're not really understanding like,
- 34:12you know, if you did play level two,
- 34:14like level three is integrating on what
- 34:16you learned in level two, right? And if
- 34:18you're like, so yeah, when you step into
- 34:19a business like that, like, yeah, you'll
- 34:21get burned so fast, like you don't know
- 34:22anything that's going on, like, you
- 34:24know, so
- 34:25>> I think that us too, like maybe we
- 34:27thought we could step out for a business
- 34:29a little earlier than we wanted to as
- 34:31well. Um, you know, at the point of, you
- 34:34know,
- 34:35you know, getting past 100,000 in sales
- 34:37or whatever. And oh, and under that
- 34:39first year was big for us. And um but
- 34:41but then like maybe it came with a
- 34:43little bit of of a idea that like, oh,
- 34:46we can step away from this for a sec and
- 34:48like pull off, you know, or um we can go
- 34:51work on this right now because again,
- 34:52entrepreneurs are always cooking
- 34:54something, right?
- 34:54>> Shiny object, man.
- 34:55>> Yeah. Exactly. Like straight, what's
- 34:58over there?
- 34:58>> Yeah.
- 35:00>> I got dinner like here over here
- 35:01someone's conversation. I was like, "We
- 35:02should start that business." Like, we
- 35:04doing it like tomorrow. Start tomorrow.
- 35:07>> Yeah. But so, you know, it's um that's
- 35:10so that's where we're at this year. Like
- 35:11we're we're stepping back in. We've kind
- 35:13of
- 35:14>> taken a little bit of a um you know,
- 35:17mind reset, I guess, and and understood
- 35:19that like what we need to do to kind of
- 35:21take this to the next level as well. And
- 35:23kind of got back on some of our original
- 35:24plans with the business. Um and and I'm
- 35:27excited for, you know, some new growth
- 35:29this year with a little more of an
- 35:30understanding. So again, like going back
- 35:32to maybe things key things people can
- 35:34take away from this is like
- 35:36not not getting to the point like I
- 35:38encourage you to again like plan plan
- 35:40for your your you know reflection points
- 35:44and and understand that like you you
- 35:46have to take time to like step out of
- 35:48the business as well be that CEO of the
- 35:50business especially if you're in that
- 35:52position right like you need to step out
- 35:55and not be so drowning inside your
- 35:57business because so many more decisions
- 35:59are made from the outside in the inside
- 36:01it's just it's you get so emotional and
- 36:04you know it's just like dayto-day it
- 36:05just keeps running and running and
- 36:06running and um so I was thankful that we
- 36:08were able to like take a sec and kind of
- 36:10figure out what's next for us. So
- 36:13>> yeah. Uh yeah, man. And that that white
- 36:17space, that clear space is huge uh for
- 36:20any entrepreneur. And you know, real
- 36:23quick going back to your other point of
- 36:25like the shiny object. Like one lesson,
- 36:27hard lesson that I've learned but have
- 36:30to continue to learn is that success in
- 36:34anything
- 36:36happens in all the boring repetition of
- 36:39just doing a good job for a really long
- 36:42time on one thing, right? It's like you
- 36:45like my I'm like squirrel, you know, to
- 36:49the max over here where I'm always
- 36:51trying and I have to find like little
- 36:53outlets within what I'm doing. Like uh
- 36:57you know, if I'm in my consulting, I'm
- 36:58like, you know, maybe I'm talking to
- 37:00somebody and they're like, "Yeah, I'm
- 37:01trying to figure out yada yada yada."
- 37:04you know, I'm like, well, I'm going to
- 37:06I'm going to, you know, quench my thirst
- 37:10for shiny object by creating a tool that
- 37:13will help this person do this and then
- 37:14maybe it'll help a bunch of other
- 37:15people, right? But it's within
- 37:17>> it's within what I'm doing.
- 37:19>> Uh because I am constantly like I almost
- 37:22bought a podcast studio not too long
- 37:24ago.
- 37:25>> I'm always looking at real estate uh and
- 37:29you know, and flipping. And I I mean
- 37:30I've got like a thousand different
- 37:32things that I want to do and
- 37:34>> but I I've got to like constantly learn
- 37:37and remind myself the lesson that
- 37:39success in anything is just doing a
- 37:42really good job for a long time. Yeah.
- 37:45>> All the boring work.
- 37:46>> Yeah. No, it it is about consistency and
- 37:49and and again like kind of that 1%
- 37:51better each day type of deal. Like like
- 37:53I listen to like I don't know if you
- 37:54listen to Diary of CEO but um he was
- 37:56talking about like you know how he
- 37:58focuses on growing his business and and
- 38:00and know like how can I be 1% better in
- 38:03what we're doing. So like you know
- 38:04they'll switch thumbnails and understand
- 38:05that like this thumbnail for their
- 38:07YouTube video gave 4% more viewership
- 38:10you know and kind of understanding all
- 38:11that stuff like you're saying it's like
- 38:12really locking in on on one thing. I
- 38:14think that that's again for
- 38:15entrepreneurs. I'm I'm with you through
- 38:17the same deal. I'm like, you know, all
- 38:19these different things going on at once
- 38:20and I'm like that sounds fun and this
- 38:22sounds fun. But like then you get so
- 38:23spread thin on like where your time
- 38:25goes, right? Like um and if you have
- 38:27that infrastructure like I'm saying to
- 38:29like you know people are running your
- 38:30business, you're just CEO level of that.
- 38:33Like yeah, you have more time to explore
- 38:35those other opportunities. But like you
- 38:36said, like that repetition, that
- 38:38consistency, it, you know, with
- 38:40marketing, with social, with literally
- 38:42building your business, with um testing
- 38:44your systems, like you know, all that is
- 38:46is what gets you super sharp and and can
- 38:48really make you, you know, to stand out
- 38:50in your industry. And I think again,
- 38:51like as entrepreneurs and as business
- 38:53owners, it's so easy for us to to be
- 38:55working on 10 different things at once.
- 38:58Um, so I encourage people like just like
- 39:00you saying just to kind of echo what
- 39:01you're saying like definitely like
- 39:04that's that's the biggest thing we're
- 39:05we're doing this year as well is just
- 39:07like really locking back in how we grew
- 39:10the business in the beginning but from a
- 39:13safe place now, right? Like like I'm
- 39:14more a more place of like okay now I
- 39:16know what happened in that first year
- 39:18but I also know how to grow 200 people
- 39:20in a customer database in one year. So
- 39:22like let's do that three years in a row
- 39:23now. Like you know what I mean? So,
- 39:25>> like, how do we how do we take what we
- 39:26learned and move into the next year and
- 39:29build off that, avoid those mistakes?
- 39:31And and then when you avoid those
- 39:33mistakes, you're like, "Oh, heck yeah."
- 39:35You know what I mean? Like,
- 39:36>> that was that was smooth. Like, I knew I
- 39:38saw that coming and we we did XYZ
- 39:41instead and you know, anything good that
- 39:44came from that, I'm I'm here for it.
- 39:46Right? So, like that stuff's really
- 39:47rewarding, too, on understanding that
- 39:49like, okay, we've had this problem, this
- 39:50is how we're going to fix it. and then
- 39:51getting through that problem, you're
- 39:52like, "Oh, sweet." You know what I mean?
- 39:55It's And then multiply that, compound
- 39:57that by 10 years. Yeah. You have a
- 39:59thriving business, right? So, I think
- 40:00that's
- 40:01>> for sure.
- 40:02>> Yeah. Yeah. That's exactly right. And,
- 40:05you know, uh making these making these
- 40:08like leaps or these inflection points uh
- 40:13is I mean, you have to be able to create
- 40:16some white space to be able to make the
- 40:18adjustments, right? like it's it's
- 40:20necess I remember the first time
- 40:22>> that I hired an admin I uh you know I
- 40:27felt like number one you know you talk
- 40:29about your ABC task my my C task for
- 40:32sure one of them is emails like
- 40:35>> yeah like all the you I get I get
- 40:41slammed with emails and I am the worst
- 40:44at responding to emails
- 40:46>> like at least you get a minute right
- 40:47like
- 40:47>> uh yeah Yeah. And I apologies to anybody
- 40:50out there who back in the day was trying
- 40:52to get a hold of me.
- 40:54>> You you can get a hold of me now because
- 40:57>> uh I thought I had to be the one doing
- 40:58all the emails and I hired an admin.
- 41:01>> Yeah.
- 41:01>> She's like, "Well, let me, you know,
- 41:03take at least like the first pass of
- 41:05your emails and if there's anything I
- 41:07can't answer or anything like that, then
- 41:08I can send it to you."
- 41:10Uh, and that was like a massive load off
- 41:13my mind, but I still had these emails
- 41:15that I had to go check. Even though it
- 41:17was like
- 41:19>> way less emails, like a handful of
- 41:21emails.
- 41:21>> Yeah,
- 41:22>> it was just like pulling teeth to even
- 41:24just go respond to those. So,
- 41:26>> what we ended up doing was we'll sit
- 41:28down at a meeting like once a day and
- 41:30she'll just say, "Hey, here this person
- 41:33needs to know this. What do you want me
- 41:34to tell and I'll just dictate
- 41:36>> and she'll just and for me that feels
- 41:39fine like for whatever reason but
- 41:41sitting down doing emails like dude that
- 41:43is like a C task for me but I would
- 41:46never have known that I didn't have to
- 41:48be the one doing all my emailing
- 41:51>> until I made that leap and you
- 41:54[clears throat] know and had that right
- 41:55and so uh so I think that's huge number
- 41:58one and we get stuck a lot of times and
- 42:00like we have to do everything and and we
- 42:02don't
- 42:03>> um and there's every excuse in the book
- 42:06of why you're the only one who can do
- 42:07XYZ and you're just not. Doesn't matter
- 42:09what it is, you're not.
- 42:11>> To think back, you know, like um we had
- 42:13a business coach that explained, you
- 42:15know, like um she called it the water
- 42:17bottle theory. So it's like, you know,
- 42:18when you do put those people in place
- 42:20like so, you know, you give them do my
- 42:22best to explain this and so the water
- 42:25bottle and you say this is the water
- 42:27bottle. I need you at all times to have
- 42:29this water bottle remain full. This is
- 42:31your only task, right? or you know your
- 42:33task is to make sure it's full. Make
- 42:35sure it's clean every day. I have ice in
- 42:37it. I'm going to give this water bottle
- 42:38to you. I'm stepping back. Right? You
- 42:41have to avoid coming back and taking
- 42:43back the water bottle. Right? Like
- 42:44that's their task. You put them in that
- 42:46role and and that's their duty now. And
- 42:48so like going back what we're saying
- 42:50where like finding the times to to get
- 42:51that help, it's like you also need to
- 42:53understand like when you do put that
- 42:54place in help and I'm guilty of trying
- 42:56to take the water bottle back from
- 42:57people too. It's like cuz as a business
- 42:58owner you're like that's not how I would
- 43:00do it. like well other people do stuff
- 43:02in good ways too, right? Like you can
- 43:04learn from people too. So again having
- 43:05that humility to be able to learn from
- 43:06someone but also like understanding like
- 43:08you put them in charge of that. That's
- 43:10their role. Let them own that role cuz
- 43:12when you're trying to like micromanage,
- 43:14you know, as we all know, anyone that's
- 43:16managed employees know it's like that's
- 43:18just a recipe for disaster, right? Like
- 43:21um you're not giving people space to to
- 43:22actually do their job, you know, cuz
- 43:24you're breathing down their neck or
- 43:25whatever. You don't want that either. So
- 43:27just finding finding finding the actual
- 43:28like space for that as well I think is
- 43:30is a huge win when find you know when
- 43:32figuring out how to hire and when to
- 43:33hire just make sure you're like ready to
- 43:35actually accept that because again
- 43:37especially if it's like your first hire
- 43:38it's hard I struggled completely with it
- 43:41for sure like what like you're saying
- 43:43just in admin role it's like
- 43:45>> you know you're like you're like still
- 43:46checking emails at first too and you
- 43:48know or you know so yeah it's it's it's
- 43:50a it's interesting for sure it's a it's
- 43:53a
- 43:55Yeah,
- 43:56>> it's an adjustment for sure. It's an
- 43:58adjustment. And the temptation can be
- 44:00for sure to
- 44:02>> to take stuff back or like I I remember
- 44:04like ah that's not how I would have
- 44:06responded to that or I you know, you
- 44:09know what I mean? Yeah. Yeah.
- 44:12Way too, right? Cuz you just will cuz
- 44:14you're like especially if you're like
- 44:16you know if it was a leap you took cuz
- 44:18you're like you don't really have the
- 44:19cash for it but like you know you need
- 44:21someone in that role to expand this
- 44:23next. That's a big thing too, right?
- 44:24understanding like with bringing someone
- 44:26in with getting help like you open up
- 44:29your time to expand and and and do more
- 44:31of your a work, right? To get more
- 44:33business.
- 44:33>> That's right.
- 44:34>> You know, uh you know, yeah, like like
- 44:36really like um I read the sales book or
- 44:39I'm reading the sales book. I haven't
- 44:41finished it yet, but um he talks about
- 44:42Yeah. like the the 80 80% of his like
- 44:46high creative work and then being giving
- 44:47the rest to someone else, right? It's
- 44:48like it's just knowing where you're best
- 44:51and and offload the rest. Like
- 44:52especially if you're growing a team like
- 44:54it's just Yeah. It's it's crucial for
- 44:56for scaling for sure.
- 44:58>> Yeah. Yeah. Uh dude. Yeah. Uh okay. I
- 45:02want to ask you about hiring here in a
- 45:05second, but real quick, I want to go
- 45:07back to shiny object syndrome because I
- 45:10just know that it's like a
- 45:12it's a common
- 45:15thing for especially like visionaries
- 45:18and you know, I don't know about you,
- 45:20but for me, I'm very good at coming up
- 45:23with ideas. I'm very good at like uh
- 45:28starting quickly and getting off to the
- 45:30races. is I'm very good at launching
- 45:32stuff. Uh but when it comes to
- 45:35maintaining and doing a consistent
- 45:38product for a really long time, I'm not
- 45:42great at that. Just like
- 45:44>> yeah,
- 45:44>> defeats me. And so I need some stimulus
- 45:50of the shiny the shiny object like
- 45:52brings life back to me. But that's in
- 45:55direct conflict with what I said earlier
- 45:57of like the key to success is just keep
- 46:00doing
- 46:01>> a good job at something for a really
- 46:02long period of time. And that feels like
- 46:04death to me. And I'm like, ah,
- 46:06>> does that mean that I can't be
- 46:09successful?
- 46:11>> Uh I don't know that I've necessarily
- 46:12answered that question for myself
- 46:14entirely. [laughter]
- 46:15Uh depends on what you mean by
- 46:17successful, I guess. But um but one
- 46:20thing that I have found, one like hack I
- 46:22guess that I have found and I I
- 46:24mentioned but I want to kind of bring it
- 46:25back around um is finding sort of these
- 46:29micro shiny objects within what I'm
- 46:33doing. I want to give one example of
- 46:35this and maybe I don't know maybe you
- 46:36have an example of something too. Uh but
- 46:39one example of this is, you know, we
- 46:41have a service where we go um find, you
- 46:45know, laundromats or spaces to build out
- 46:47laundromats for clients. We go out and
- 46:49we look for them. We help them secure,
- 46:52you know, the like make offers on it or
- 46:54secure a lease if they're going to build
- 46:56out or buy a property or whatever and
- 46:58then help them through like the due
- 46:59diligence or the buildout or whatever,
- 47:01right? So, we have this service. It's
- 47:02our done for you kind of concierge
- 47:05service. And one of these like micro
- 47:08shiny objects was I got super excited
- 47:11about like I had some frustrations in
- 47:13this process where I was having trouble
- 47:14keeping track of deals and my coaches
- 47:16were having trouble keeping track of
- 47:18deals. And so I was like, well, what if
- 47:20we just built out a software where we
- 47:23can just custom build it specifically
- 47:25for this? And we custom built out this
- 47:28software so that we could have team
- 47:30members upload deals to this thing, tag
- 47:33the clients that it it those deals are
- 47:35applicable to. They can say yes, we like
- 47:38it, no, we don't like it, or let's
- 47:40discuss it. That can trigger a meeting
- 47:42with our coaches and uh you know, we're
- 47:45we're off to the races. All the
- 47:47information is right there. Everybody
- 47:48can access it. And so we kind of custom
- 47:51built this software for me. that was
- 47:55like, you know, our our doing a good job
- 47:57for a long time kept rolling, but I was
- 48:00able to find the sort of like micro
- 48:02shiny object that stimulated that need
- 48:06in me, but also helped propel us forward
- 48:09in what we were doing.
- 48:10>> Yeah. And your same ecosystem, right?
- 48:12Yeah. No, I think that that's definitely
- 48:13been something that that we've talked
- 48:15about a lot lately, too. And and kind of
- 48:17like um you know, we cuz we do digital
- 48:19marketing and I hate that term. Um we do
- 48:22digital like brand building um
- 48:24consulting within like growing your
- 48:26brand online, growing your brand
- 48:28locally. Um so anything from like you
- 48:30know sometimes ends up being social
- 48:32media management, a lot of it's like
- 48:33strategy, a lot of it's you know again
- 48:35learned experiences that we're we're
- 48:37helping talk people through. Um and I
- 48:40think like within that you know I've
- 48:42realized even of yeah like what are
- 48:45things we can do that in something
- 48:47that's already generating income and gen
- 48:49you know it's proving itself like yeah
- 48:51what what's something that doesn't feel
- 48:52so left field from what we're doing
- 48:55right so like developing products within
- 48:57the industry or or yeah consulting
- 49:00within the laundry industry right so
- 49:02like kind of you know niching more or
- 49:04less like niching down but like kind of
- 49:06staying on track with with with what's
- 49:08going on and and and kind of like if you
- 49:10are doing that side shiny thing, it's
- 49:12almost like adding value to your normal
- 49:15thing too, right? And I think that's
- 49:17kind of what you're saying too, like
- 49:18it's building your rapport. It's
- 49:20building your, you know, your reviews,
- 49:22your your legacy, your, you know, your
- 49:25trust factor just of of being a mobile
- 49:27in the industry, right? like like I
- 49:29think you can get a lot out of that and
- 49:31like you're saying still satisfy that
- 49:32need for like change or creativity or
- 49:36you know like whatever you want to call
- 49:37it because I'm the same way like I can't
- 49:39be working on like one thing at once but
- 49:41I but I also understand that like
- 49:44there's there's so much value in in in
- 49:46just like locking in on something
- 49:47because I've seen that happen when we
- 49:48were able to step away from like
- 49:51coaching for social media we were doing
- 49:52back in 2023 like before we rolled into
- 49:56lots and and then we rolled into 2024
- 49:59when a lot of started really taking off.
- 50:01We stepped out of coaching to put it all
- 50:03lot as and grew that from you know 3,000
- 50:06a month to 12,000 a month in revenue. So
- 50:08it's like that that that understanding
- 50:11and that like seeing that in real time
- 50:13too like oh my god okay yeah like you
- 50:16can step fully into something it's it's
- 50:18something like you know it's so obvious
- 50:20sometimes too but it's like again just
- 50:22even if it is your only thing like
- 50:25understanding there's a difference
- 50:26between like like going all in on your
- 50:28business while you're working in the
- 50:29business and then going all in on your
- 50:30business while you're able to step out
- 50:31and actually be like okay how are we
- 50:33taking it from you know 10 to 20 to 50
- 50:35to you know whatever maybe whatever your
- 50:37goals are right. Um, yeah, I think
- 50:40that's that's a that's a big thing for
- 50:41sure.
- 50:42>> Yeah. Yeah. Okay. So, let's uh I I mean,
- 50:48one question for me is like, okay, so
- 50:49you you got to this point where you were
- 50:51I don't I don't know if you're burned
- 50:52out, but at least you needed some help.
- 50:54You're kind of taking a step back and
- 50:56you decided, hey, let's bring some
- 50:58people on. You decided it was the right
- 51:00time or maybe it was past the right
- 51:01time. You decided,
- 51:03>> you know, best time to plant a tree was
- 51:05back then, next best time is now kind of
- 51:06thing. Uh and so uh you
- 51:12how did you go about like finding that
- 51:15first hire and how did you actually hire
- 51:18them?
- 51:19>> Yeah. So um we've again I'll lead with
- 51:22like we've hired in the past. So like
- 51:23you know I have a little bit of
- 51:25experience both of us have some
- 51:26experience with trying to find what we
- 51:28look for in people. I think the age-old
- 51:31like higher attitude not for skill that
- 51:33holds true I think in any any industry
- 51:36like I think it's so important to like
- 51:38focus on when you're interviewing people
- 51:39like if anyone wants any interview you
- 51:42know help real quick like really
- 51:43focusing on like the type of person this
- 51:45person like the company culture again
- 51:48this is going to sound super cliche but
- 51:49like it matters so much now more than
- 51:51ever especially with like remote jobs
- 51:53and like everything you know like
- 51:55there's just like there's a lot of
- 51:56opportunities for people out there so
- 51:58finding the people that really care
- 51:59about what they're doing is is crucial.
- 52:01So like a lot of beginning questions we
- 52:03ask in our interviews are like how do
- 52:04you care about us? I mean, if you don't
- 52:06know anything about me, you're just flat
- 52:07on your deed. It's like, all right,
- 52:09well, you know, I mean, there's certain
- 52:11situations where maybe it doesn't matter
- 52:13as much, but like, you know, I think
- 52:14that there's a certain level of like
- 52:16responsibility for someone that really
- 52:18can look up your company on Google or,
- 52:21you know what I mean? And um, so kind of
- 52:23asking some of those priming questions
- 52:24as well is is is kind of an easy way to
- 52:26to to see if it's going to be a good
- 52:28fit. Like, and then and then again, like
- 52:30just kind of learning about this person
- 52:31within the hiring process. So again, we
- 52:33kind of have these benchmarks that we go
- 52:34in with hiring on how we're finding out
- 52:37if they're, you know, going to be just
- 52:39overall a person with good attitude and
- 52:41and understand especially with our
- 52:43business. Like we were, this is the
- 52:45first time we were hiring for a role
- 52:46within the business. So like I made it
- 52:48very transparent with everyone that we
- 52:50were hiring and like this is a new role
- 52:51for us. Like I want someone that's
- 52:54stepping in as well to be very like open
- 52:57to giving feedback like right like not
- 53:00to a point of causing an issue, right?
- 53:02But like this is this a new fine line.
- 53:04It's a fine line. [laughter]
- 53:06>> Yeah. Like you know it's a new role for
- 53:07us. Like I want to make sure that like
- 53:09our our pay structure we set out is
- 53:12legit. Like you know like like kind of
- 53:14tough questions too like not not like in
- 53:16the interview but like understanding
- 53:17like I want you to like feel involved in
- 53:19this business like especially being a
- 53:21new business and like it's it's so
- 53:23crucial like you you are the face of my
- 53:25business at the end of the day as well
- 53:26just as much as I am, right? So, like
- 53:28making sure that you're finding a good
- 53:29fit with those people is is is so
- 53:31important. And like I said, I think
- 53:32we've always led with like hiring for
- 53:34attitude and hiring personality. And I
- 53:36think it's done us really well on
- 53:37finding the right people. Um the people
- 53:40that we found right away were um weren't
- 53:44on Bay Bridge. It's it's harder to hire
- 53:45on the island just with the um age range
- 53:48of people and also just kind of, you
- 53:51know, the demographic of the island
- 53:52really at the end of the day. Um, so
- 53:54we've, you know, we've been able to hire
- 53:55for other people from different
- 53:56communities in in Kitap, which is really
- 53:58cool. Like, you know, I don't take that
- 54:00lightly, like, you know, someone working
- 54:02for us. And, you know, it's it's there's
- 54:04like, again, I know everyone feels that
- 54:06they has employees, like there's there's
- 54:08this level of like responsibility that
- 54:09comes with like having a person that you
- 54:11know, like that you're paying their
- 54:13income or whatever. And, you know, even
- 54:15if it's a side gig or whatever it is,
- 54:16it's still important to them. And it's
- 54:18like making sure that like it's not just
- 54:20again sounds lame but like I don't want
- 54:23this to just be like another job. I want
- 54:24there to be some sort of pride they're
- 54:26taking in in what they're doing whether
- 54:27or not they're working you know 5 hours
- 54:30a week or or you know 30 hours a week
- 54:33whatever it may be. Like I I think it's
- 54:35important to to have some sort of sense
- 54:38of responsibility and like pride in in
- 54:41what you're doing. For sure.
- 54:43>> Yeah. So, did you find, you know, these
- 54:46first employee employees? Did you I
- 54:49mean, were these like family friends?
- 54:51Were these Did you go to Indeed? Did you
- 54:53go to
- 54:54>> Yeah. Um
- 54:55um maybe we can get Indeed to sponsor
- 54:57this video? No.
- 54:59>> That's right.
- 55:00>> We did Indeed. Uh you know, always
- 55:02worked well for us and sponsored a job
- 55:04and not a lot of people. And obviously,
- 55:05you get a lot of people there. You know,
- 55:07that's another thing like if they can't
- 55:09if they can't even like do the basic ass
- 55:11of even getting an interview scheduled,
- 55:13like don't bother with your time, right?
- 55:16Like if they can't follow instructions,
- 55:17like it's not a great start. Um, but
- 55:20yeah, no, going on Indeed, we posted on
- 55:22Facebook. Um, you know, again, like
- 55:25smaller community, so we took advantage
- 55:26of some of those word of mouth channels
- 55:29as well. And yeah, we were able to find
- 55:31solid people like right away. Um, and a
- 55:34lot of people obviously apply to you.
- 55:35everyone's looking for a job and uh and
- 55:37again it's important for us that we're
- 55:39bringing in like really committed people
- 55:41though to to some degree. So yeah, use
- 55:43Indeed, use Facebook, found probably
- 55:45right away we hired
- 55:48um we hire like four people right away
- 55:50and then hired two more people and then
- 55:53we're able to like at one point you know
- 55:56I'm still at this point um I haven't
- 55:58folded laundry in, you know, a while.
- 56:01So, um, I'm very thankful for our, you
- 56:03know, for our team that we put together.
- 56:05It's worked out good. And again, like
- 56:07once you get to that team spot, like
- 56:09really like checking like I can't stress
- 56:13and I'm sure you know enough like just
- 56:14treating your employees really well too
- 56:16and making them feel like part of the
- 56:18job and part of that's why I just it's
- 56:20from the beginning. We want them to feel
- 56:21very involved in what we're building.
- 56:22Like if you have feedback, I want to
- 56:24hear it. Like if you had this service,
- 56:26what would you expect? And you know,
- 56:27like all of that stuff, right? like um
- 56:29we we're having these month these
- 56:31meetings probably every um probably
- 56:33should do it more but every every other
- 56:35month and um just kind of checking in on
- 56:37everyone and having open feedback and so
- 56:39everyone feels like you know this is a
- 56:40really safe place to talk about what's
- 56:42happening what we're seeing like
- 56:44customer feedback like we just able to
- 56:46add um tips like on orders um we're able
- 56:50to finally do that with sense and um so
- 56:52that's been cool to see like some of our
- 56:53customers come back and tip some of our
- 56:55you know drivers and and that being able
- 56:57to go to them too is just like that's
- 56:59you know it's all like it feels good. It
- 57:01feels good building like a meaningful
- 57:03business that's helping you know helping
- 57:05people and also helping you know employ
- 57:07people too. So it's it's very gratifying
- 57:09for sure on once you can like do it in a
- 57:12sustainable way like I also know that
- 57:15employees are just like a lot for people
- 57:16too you know.
- 57:18Yeah. And I will say I know there's a
- 57:20lot of like
- 57:23I'll call them critics of uh hiring
- 57:27people and you can't find good people
- 57:30and blah blah blah blah blah.
- 57:33>> Uh well I mean I'll just I'll just be
- 57:37the definitive opinion here and that's
- 57:39not true. You can't find good people.
- 57:41There are good people out there.
- 57:42>> Are they easy to find? No, not usually.
- 57:45Uh because good people usually have
- 57:48options and so you've got to find the
- 57:50right fit. I like what you said earlier,
- 57:51hiring for the attitude,
- 57:53>> less for the skill, especially in this.
- 57:55Maybe I want my
- 57:56>> neurosurgeon hired for the skill, not
- 57:58for the attitude. But uh but in laundry,
- 58:01>> you know, it's a it's a learnable skill
- 58:03fairly easily, right? So
- 58:06>> um
- 58:08>> so you know, number one, I mean, you can
- 58:10hire people who are good people who can
- 58:13help you. Is it easy? you know. Um, and
- 58:16I will say, you know, I've I've had I've
- 58:20shared a couple of like laundromat
- 58:23attendant stories that I've of
- 58:26attendance that I've had that were not
- 58:27good. I had one of my attendants, I
- 58:30rolled up and she was screaming in the
- 58:32face of one of the customers in front of
- 58:33the store one day and that was pretty
- 58:35much an immediate let go, right? Uh, and
- 58:39so, you know, but I will say that the
- 58:43like be as picky as you can be because
- 58:46the difference between a good hire and
- 58:51a mediocre hire, let alone a bad hire,
- 58:53is night and day,
- 58:56>> especially if you're having trouble with
- 58:58the concept of hiring other people.
- 59:00>> Yeah.
- 59:01>> Hire somebody good.
- 59:04It's just going to make your life so
- 59:06much better. So, it's going to take so
- 59:08much pressure off. And I, you know, for
- 59:10me, when I hired my assistant for the
- 59:11first time, I felt really guilty. I've
- 59:13shared this on here before, but I felt
- 59:14really guilty because I was like, "Okay,
- 59:17I'm really sorry, but I have probably
- 59:19like three weeks worth of backlog work,
- 59:23and it was all stuff I hated, and it was
- 59:26going to take me at least three weeks to
- 59:27do it if I just sat down and did it
- 59:29all."
- 59:30>> She literally finished all of it in half
- 59:32a day with a smile. And for me it was
- 59:35like eyeoping because I was like number
- 59:37one like not everybody likes the things
- 59:39that I like and hates the things that I
- 59:40hate. So find the people that like the
- 59:42things you need to do.
- 59:44>> Uh and uh not everybody
- 59:48you know the the the things you feel
- 59:51like you can only do yourself a lot of
- 59:53times uh other people not only can do it
- 59:57as good as you but a lot of times
- 59:58better. [laughter] make sure
- 1:00:02>> and that's like such a like humbling
- 1:00:04experience too and I think once you can
- 1:00:05do it like once or twice too like you
- 1:00:07start to understand that like like the
- 1:00:09people that are helping you build your
- 1:00:11business and they're inside your
- 1:00:12business they they should be better at
- 1:00:13that job than you and you and like that
- 1:00:15understanding of like it's not even
- 1:00:18passing the torch you know but it's like
- 1:00:21>> I think people often times they don't
- 1:00:22understand like what can come from
- 1:00:24putting people in that position too like
- 1:00:26you said like oh my god like 3 weeks of
- 1:00:29my schedule just opened. Do you know
- 1:00:30what I mean? Like like it's literally it
- 1:00:32can be that illuminating and and and
- 1:00:34that's like the ultimate like freeing
- 1:00:37experience as again as a as a founder,
- 1:00:39as an operator, as a CEO, whatever you
- 1:00:41are like that that ability to put people
- 1:00:45in those places. It's like I mean it's
- 1:00:47night it's it's it's next to nothing
- 1:00:49like but and you make a good point of
- 1:00:51like you know finding finding a good
- 1:00:53hire you know and some quick tips on
- 1:00:55that too like right like 10990s people
- 1:00:58for the first 3 months or or you know
- 1:01:00like uh bring him on for you know
- 1:01:02there's there's ways you can kind of
- 1:01:04like stress test as well and and um and
- 1:01:07you know sometimes there's a commitment
- 1:01:09level issue with people there too but
- 1:01:11you know like um like you said if if
- 1:01:13you're new to this you you have to
- 1:01:14understand that you know, you're going
- 1:01:17to learn from you have to be open to
- 1:01:19learning from people like especially
- 1:01:20like your people that you're putting in
- 1:01:22place like you know it's uh you're never
- 1:01:25going to get anywhere if you think you
- 1:01:26know you have all the right answers.
- 1:01:28That sounds like so easy to understand
- 1:01:31too, right? Like I think a lot of people
- 1:01:32resist that kind of that point of growth
- 1:01:36because it is a point of growth, right?
- 1:01:39>> Yeah. Yeah. Well, and unless we get too
- 1:01:42sort of warm and fuzzy of like put good
- 1:01:44people in place and treat them well and
- 1:01:47all that. The other kind of flip side of
- 1:01:49this, and this is part of what makes
- 1:01:51being a a boss or a business owner
- 1:01:53difficult is, you know, I'm of the
- 1:01:56opinion that as soon as you know
- 1:01:58somebody's not the right fit, that's the
- 1:02:00time to let them go. I have tried now
- 1:02:03now, and that's way easier said than
- 1:02:04done. I'll just say, especially if
- 1:02:05you're a good person, it's really hard
- 1:02:07to let somebody go. Uh but I would just
- 1:02:09say for my
- 1:02:12>> Yeah.
- 1:02:14Go. Yeah. That's right. Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:02:16Yeah. Hire somebody to fire them. Yeah.
- 1:02:18That's right. Uh the uh for just from my
- 1:02:22experience, you know, if you have one
- 1:02:25employee who's not pulling their weight,
- 1:02:28it's going to pull the rest of your team
- 1:02:30down and your own spirits down. If you
- 1:02:32have somebody who's not embodying the
- 1:02:35values that you want to invalue, you
- 1:02:38know, an extreme example is they're
- 1:02:39screaming at a customer in front of your
- 1:02:40store. Uh but there's there's less
- 1:02:43extreme examples of somebody complaining
- 1:02:45to other employees behind your back
- 1:02:47about you.
- 1:02:48>> Those things that really affects
- 1:02:51>> your business and your brand and the
- 1:02:55productivity of your employees and the
- 1:02:57end product and the customer experience.
- 1:02:59All of that is affected. So, as soon as
- 1:03:02you know you have an employee who's not
- 1:03:04the right fit, they're underproducing or
- 1:03:05they don't have the right attitude, you
- 1:03:08know, obviously, especially if it's an
- 1:03:09underproducing, you know, put some stuff
- 1:03:11in place to give them a chance to get up
- 1:03:13to par, but that attitude thing is
- 1:03:17difficult to correct. So, as soon as you
- 1:03:19know, you need to put some steps in
- 1:03:21place to start making a transition.
- 1:03:23>> Yeah. I mean, you don't want it to get
- 1:03:25too bad. I I agree for sure. Yeah.
- 1:03:29>> I'm curious. Yeah. I'm curious. During
- 1:03:31your interviews uh with potential
- 1:03:35employees, did you uh make them try on a
- 1:03:39pink neckerchief to make sure they look
- 1:03:41good in the brand? Is that
- 1:03:44>> is that part of the process?
- 1:03:45>> Yeah, it it should be right. Like
- 1:03:47>> Yeah.
- 1:03:47>> Yeah. Yeah. I think that the brand
- 1:03:50recognition that we've been able to get
- 1:03:51for sure has been really cool. Like, you
- 1:03:54know, we're we got some products that
- 1:03:55we're going to come out with too, some
- 1:03:57merch and stuff. And that's that's why
- 1:03:58I'm talking like the extension of the
- 1:04:00brand too. Like I think you made a good
- 1:04:01point that I want to touch on too is
- 1:04:03like um
- 1:04:06as far as like bringing in good people,
- 1:04:07you know, when it comes to hiring, like
- 1:04:09I think a lot of people just think it's
- 1:04:10as easy as like, okay, I have a
- 1:04:12business. I need employees. I'm going to
- 1:04:14find employees and we'll put them in
- 1:04:15place. And you know, and I think that
- 1:04:16like again your brand like being a place
- 1:04:18that people actually want to show up to
- 1:04:20and work at like um that a little bit
- 1:04:22that's on you too as a business owner,
- 1:04:24right? as an operator and understanding
- 1:04:26that like the image you're putting out
- 1:04:28and and the way you go about business
- 1:04:30like all of that is very um reflective
- 1:04:32of the type of people that are going to
- 1:04:34want to work for you. So again, like you
- 1:04:36know, um jobs are meant to turn over
- 1:04:39more. You get more of a, you know, I not
- 1:04:40going to say lower class, but like maybe
- 1:04:42even like a younger person, it's like
- 1:04:43they're built for turnover jobs, right?
- 1:04:45Like that there's certain places that
- 1:04:47are in certain areas. And I think that
- 1:04:49it's important to understand that like
- 1:04:51what you put out is what you're going to
- 1:04:52get back. Kind of the simplest way to
- 1:04:54put that. So like making sure that
- 1:04:56you're creating a good environment for
- 1:04:57people to work in and and and you have
- 1:05:00you know um ways for them to grow as
- 1:05:03people is like I always say with Liz and
- 1:05:05I've always said like people that work
- 1:05:06for us like I don't expect them to work
- 1:05:08for me the rest of their life right like
- 1:05:10I my only hope as being like a good
- 1:05:13leader and a good manager owner whatever
- 1:05:16it may be is like they leave the job a
- 1:05:17better person with more skills ready for
- 1:05:20their next opportunity in life right
- 1:05:21it's not about like enslaving these
- 1:05:23people for the next Like ideally if you
- 1:05:25have a great employee, you hope they
- 1:05:26stick around forever. But like my my
- 1:05:29mindset has always been like whatever
- 1:05:31they do do, I hope they go on to bigger
- 1:05:32and better things because like I'm not I
- 1:05:35shouldn't, you know, unless they're
- 1:05:36super, you know, they're older or
- 1:05:38whatever their career, this is like
- 1:05:39their exit job or whatever. But like,
- 1:05:40you know, for the most part, like I want
- 1:05:41people to to continue to grow and if if
- 1:05:44I'm doing the right thing, I'm creating
- 1:05:46a better person out of them and giving
- 1:05:48them any sort of, you know,
- 1:05:51newfound advice or discovery or, you
- 1:05:53know, not to sound like it's like a
- 1:05:55godly experience working for for
- 1:05:57someone, but like yeah, making sure
- 1:05:59they're like,
- 1:06:00>> you know, leaving stronger and better,
- 1:06:02more equipped, not like and really just
- 1:06:05happy that they had worked in that
- 1:06:07position for, you know, for that amount
- 1:06:09of time or whatever. So, sorry orders
- 1:06:11are sliding through here.
- 1:06:13>> Hey. All right. That's what I like to
- 1:06:14hear, man. Making money while on the
- 1:06:16podcast. That's what's about the noise.
- 1:06:18>> But that'd be a lesson to you guys who
- 1:06:21are out there that owner mats or pick
- 1:06:24them delivery businesses and have not
- 1:06:25yet come on the podcast. Listen, can
- 1:06:28pretty much guarantee that if you come
- 1:06:30on the podcast, you're gonna make money
- 1:06:31while you're on it. And it's a good
- 1:06:33we had a lot of people reach out, you
- 1:06:35know, heard you on Jordan's podcast and,
- 1:06:37you know, I think it's been cool for us
- 1:06:38to be able to share, you know, our
- 1:06:40experiences across the industry. And um,
- 1:06:42you know, I'd say like in general, I
- 1:06:44think we're probably uh a more um
- 1:06:48marketing forward approach than a lot of
- 1:06:49operators have taken. We've talked about
- 1:06:51that before, too. And so it's cool to
- 1:06:53like I'm not trying to like you know
- 1:06:54shake up the industry per se, but you
- 1:06:56know our goal definitely is to get you
- 1:06:58know a new look kind of in line with
- 1:07:00what you you know you've been trying to
- 1:07:01do for a long time now. You've been a
- 1:07:03cornerstone of kind of forward thinking
- 1:07:05in in this industry and um you know we
- 1:07:08hope to do that kind of on the on the on
- 1:07:09the terms of branding and understanding
- 1:07:11like you know the value and the trust
- 1:07:14that that can get you to like next
- 1:07:15levels in your business. For sure.
- 1:07:18>> Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Uh, dude, I I mean,
- 1:07:21this has been good. I got a couple
- 1:07:23couple quick questions for you. Number
- 1:07:25one,
- 1:07:26>> uh, and and this is kind of joke
- 1:07:29question, but also kind of a real
- 1:07:30question, actually. And and I'll preface
- 1:07:33it by saying, you know, we've had some
- 1:07:34other people on the podcast who have
- 1:07:36started pickup and delivery businesses
- 1:07:38without a laundromat location, started
- 1:07:41from scratch that way, and have shared
- 1:07:44similar stories of it just being
- 1:07:46difficult and a grind and a lot of work
- 1:07:49and a big learning curve uh to actually
- 1:07:51grow and scale, but have ultimately done
- 1:07:53well. Uh,
- 1:07:56are you still glad that you started the
- 1:08:00pickup and delivery business?
- 1:08:03>> Yeah, I was that's a genuine question
- 1:08:05because I mean I know how much work it
- 1:08:06is you know. Sure. No, I uh absolutely
- 1:08:10like you know I think that that's like
- 1:08:11from the beginning we obviously like you
- 1:08:13know you always start a business you
- 1:08:14know if you started started a business
- 1:08:16in the past or whatever like you you
- 1:08:17understand that like a lot of things
- 1:08:19change within the first year of kind of
- 1:08:20what you had planned and then where you
- 1:08:22planned on taking it and then year two
- 1:08:24can be different and and you start to
- 1:08:25like you're saying settle in as you get
- 1:08:27the repetition. Um I am happy especially
- 1:08:31cuz I think the way we went about it was
- 1:08:33kind of like testing the market per se
- 1:08:35like we you know we're like okay if we
- 1:08:37feel like there's a need format like you
- 1:08:39know our goal after launch was always to
- 1:08:41get like a facility a bigger production
- 1:08:43facility where we can you know own a lot
- 1:08:45more of that margin. Um, but I'd say
- 1:08:47like I love the fact of pick up a
- 1:08:50delivery because it's also solving the
- 1:08:51issue of time, right? Like it's people
- 1:08:54are increasingly buying back their time,
- 1:08:56right? Like what we do um in in the
- 1:09:00delivery space specifically, even Door I
- 1:09:02mean Door Dash is what might butcher
- 1:09:05this, but I'm guessing 12 15 years old.
- 1:09:07Like the whole like delivery like that
- 1:09:10whole idea is still very new to people,
- 1:09:12right? So, like that's really exciting
- 1:09:14about this industry and where it's at.
- 1:09:15Like um is like
- 1:09:17>> it's very new. It's a new idea still as
- 1:09:19much as it's like you know
- 1:09:21>> Yeah.
- 1:09:22>> Some people are like I don't get it. And
- 1:09:23like you want to be like you don't get
- 1:09:25it. Like I mean I show up and I do
- 1:09:27laundry like you know what I mean? Like
- 1:09:30you know like slow down buddy like
- 1:09:31that's what I say to myself but like you
- 1:09:33know I explain it and like people like
- 1:09:34oh my god like that's amazing like sign
- 1:09:36me up blah blah blah. like it literally
- 1:09:38is like that for some people like
- 1:09:40they're like like holy crap something
- 1:09:41like this exists and it's like and then
- 1:09:44those are conversations I'm still having
- 1:09:46people a year and a half into business
- 1:09:47and I'm like that's where I'm like the
- 1:09:48root the ceiling is like up here you
- 1:09:51know what I mean on on where you could
- 1:09:52take this and and uh you know within
- 1:09:55that I think that uh yeah it's just like
- 1:09:58you're you're seeing it turn from
- 1:10:00something that was always like same with
- 1:10:02like you know cleaning people or these
- 1:10:04like you know service based things or
- 1:10:06they used to like you know higher luxury
- 1:10:08or like oh you're really well off if you
- 1:10:10can afford you know a cleaning person
- 1:10:12and and yeah and then like someone that
- 1:10:15comes to your house and details your car
- 1:10:16like all these things are becoming like
- 1:10:18middle class things too like people are
- 1:10:20buying back their time cuz they know
- 1:10:22that like yeah if they're going to spend
- 1:10:24$100 a week on laundry and they get to
- 1:10:26have a whole weekend away like you know
- 1:10:29what I mean and and and even if they're
- 1:10:31not in that position like the just the
- 1:10:32time you're getting to spend with your
- 1:10:33family and and work on and do stuff for
- 1:10:35yourself and not just not worry worry
- 1:10:37about something as stupid as not stupid
- 1:10:39as something as
- 1:10:41annoying to people as laundry.
- 1:10:43>> Yeah.
- 1:10:44>> It's a win-win, right?
- 1:10:45>> It's stupid. It's stupid. I think that's
- 1:10:47an okay word. Can't do that.
- 1:10:50>> Yeah. No, but you know, so we're seeing
- 1:10:52that a lot a lot more get down into that
- 1:10:54area to what you think like you know
- 1:10:57again families like I mean you just
- 1:10:59can't you can't put a sometimes I just
- 1:11:01you can't put a price on it like and and
- 1:11:03the feedback we so much
- 1:11:06>> so much in line with that right it's
- 1:11:07just like you know it's it's just such a
- 1:11:09nice service and and you know I don't
- 1:11:11have to think about it I put my laundry
- 1:11:12out and it's it's great you know and so
- 1:11:14like yes answering your question I'm I'm
- 1:11:16super happy we stick to pick up open and
- 1:11:17delivery um like I said we have a lot
- 1:11:20plans on um where we want to take this
- 1:11:24and and what what this can be with the
- 1:11:26brand that we've built and um I think
- 1:11:28Liz and I are you know we're like
- 1:11:30itching feeding like maybe we do a
- 1:11:32little refresh rebrand. So we'll we'll
- 1:11:34see what what happens kind of this year
- 1:11:36but um you know we'd always like to you
- 1:11:38know like you said I think we're really
- 1:11:39focused this year on on chasing chasing
- 1:11:42ideas within the business and not like
- 1:11:45multiple ideas you know and really
- 1:11:47really you know doubling down on
- 1:11:49everything. So, it's going to be it's
- 1:11:50going to be exciting year for sure.
- 1:11:52>> Yeah. Yeah. Okay. I got two more
- 1:11:54questions for you. Well, maybe three,
- 1:11:57>> but uh Okay, so question number one,
- 1:12:01this is actually a command, not a
- 1:12:03question.
- 1:12:04>> Give me your best piece of advice for
- 1:12:06somebody trying to start a pickup and
- 1:12:08delivery business from scratch. Either
- 1:12:11on their own or in their laundromat,
- 1:12:12doesn't matter. But just best piece of
- 1:12:14advice.
- 1:12:15>> Um just start. Like I think that I've
- 1:12:20worked with a we've worked with a lot of
- 1:12:21people lately that like
- 1:12:24get so caught up in like making
- 1:12:26everything feel like it needs to be
- 1:12:27perfect. Like um get get a system like
- 1:12:30get on sense get on you know I'm not
- 1:12:32going to push anyone specifically. Get
- 1:12:34on clean cloud like whatever like and
- 1:12:36just start like set up your stuff go out
- 1:12:39talk about your business um and and and
- 1:12:41really just just get more exposure. I
- 1:12:44think that like talking to more people,
- 1:12:45networking more is probably my biggest
- 1:12:47piece of advice on how to like initially
- 1:12:49get get the word out. But yeah, like
- 1:12:51just get started. Like so many people
- 1:12:53get so caught up in like, okay, I need
- 1:12:55to set this up and then before I take an
- 1:12:57order, I need to get XYZ bags and this
- 1:13:00and that. Like, yeah, it's good to have
- 1:13:01a system, especially if like you're like
- 1:13:02a laundromat starting with pick up and
- 1:13:04delivery. Like, yeah, you should have
- 1:13:06those systems for drop off already. So,
- 1:13:07like, you know, you're ahead of the game
- 1:13:09already, but like it again, in those
- 1:13:11situations, like what are you waiting
- 1:13:12for? like get going like you know what I
- 1:13:14mean like
- 1:13:16>> you don't need systems if you don't have
- 1:13:17any customers so and you work out those
- 1:13:19systems as you grow.
- 1:13:21>> Yeah. I know. So it's like just get
- 1:13:22started and and and hit the pavement
- 1:13:24run. I'm not I'm not preaching
- 1:13:26overworking yourself or anything like
- 1:13:27that, but just getting in front of as
- 1:13:30many people as possible right away. um
- 1:13:32giving people, you know, love reaching
- 1:13:34out to local influencers and getting
- 1:13:36them to like giving them some free
- 1:13:38laundry if they can make a video for,
- 1:13:39you know, like tapping into resources
- 1:13:41that again are organic. You can get them
- 1:13:43for free. You can train people like just
- 1:13:45like really don't limit yourself on your
- 1:13:47options on on how to like how to how
- 1:13:50it's going to happen and this and that
- 1:13:51and this and just just go just just get
- 1:13:54started, start walking like um that's
- 1:13:56that's the only way anything's going to
- 1:13:58get any momentum, right? And and again,
- 1:14:00just learn, understand that you're going
- 1:14:01to learn as you go. Like, absolutely
- 1:14:03learn as you go, unless like you're
- 1:14:04saying, unless you have people like us
- 1:14:07that can walk you through it, but like,
- 1:14:08you know, it's it's um it's all about
- 1:14:11action like big time.
- 1:14:14>> Yeah.
- 1:14:15>> Yeah. I would I would agree 100%. I talk
- 1:14:18to people every single day.
- 1:14:22I'm like like they they talk about what
- 1:14:25they want to do and I'm I'm just like
- 1:14:27the only thing that you're missing is
- 1:14:30the work. Like get started. [laughter]
- 1:14:32Just get going, man. Like
- 1:14:35>> you've been over it a 100 times. You
- 1:14:37>> Yeah, you're way past uh and it doesn't
- 1:14:40take a whole lot of I had I forget who
- 1:14:42it was. Somebody's on the podcast. They
- 1:14:44said, you know, to to avoid the analysis
- 1:14:49paralysis trap, they say they they give
- 1:14:52themselves three months to learn about
- 1:14:54something and they decide, is this what
- 1:14:55I'm going to do or is this not what I'm
- 1:14:56going to do? And then get going because
- 1:14:58you can only learn so much and you
- 1:15:00really I mean I can say like I can just
- 1:15:02say this truthfully to you.
- 1:15:04>> You can do all the research. You can
- 1:15:05listen to every single podcast. You can
- 1:15:07watch every video. You can read every
- 1:15:09blog post. You can buy the books. You
- 1:15:11can do all that stuff. You
- 1:15:13>> really don't know anything until you
- 1:15:14just start doing it and that's how you
- 1:15:16learn.
- 1:15:16>> Every situation's different to some
- 1:15:18degree, right? Like I said, you can you
- 1:15:20can lean on systems and and and get
- 1:15:22advice from people that you can skip
- 1:15:24years of studying and stuff, but like
- 1:15:26yeah, until you do it, like you don't
- 1:15:29know how you're going to some people
- 1:15:30don't even know if you're going to like
- 1:15:31it and and you know what I mean? Yeah,
- 1:15:32>> I think the big part of of this too is
- 1:15:34like
- 1:15:35>> with anything you're doing like I I
- 1:15:37truly do feel like you should like what
- 1:15:38you're doing to some extent, you know,
- 1:15:40like I hear like stuff to do like doing
- 1:15:43it's like hey
- 1:15:44>> try something else like if you know what
- 1:15:46[laughter]
- 1:15:47>> Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:15:48>> So I don't know
- 1:15:49>> especially if it's a business I mean cuz
- 1:15:50running a business I mean we talked
- 1:15:52about the roller coaster the mental
- 1:15:53roller coaster the financial roller
- 1:15:55coaster like
- 1:15:56>> you know especially when you're running
- 1:15:57a business like
- 1:15:59>> it's just really hard. So, if you don't
- 1:16:01like what you're doing, you might as
- 1:16:02well just go get a job or start a
- 1:16:04different business, something. Uh, it's
- 1:16:06not worth it.
- 1:16:07>> Yeah, I agree. I agree 100%.
- 1:16:09>> It's not worth it. Okay. Uh, second
- 1:16:12question.
- 1:16:14>> No, it's not a question, it's a command.
- 1:16:16>> Bring it more. Love it. [clears throat]
- 1:16:18>> Give me your best piece of advice for
- 1:16:20somebody who has
- 1:16:23uh a pick a delivery or drop off and is
- 1:16:26trying to scale.
- 1:16:29Yeah,
- 1:16:29>> I know this is a difficult question
- 1:16:30because it really might depend on a
- 1:16:32whole bunch of stuff, but uh give me
- 1:16:34give me your best piece of advice at
- 1:16:36least just from your experience.
- 1:16:38>> Yeah. Um
- 1:16:40definitely like
- 1:16:42developing your systems. I think as as
- 1:16:45you go is important to like kind of
- 1:16:46document everything that's happening as
- 1:16:48you go and and making sure that like
- 1:16:50you're using that data to kind of do
- 1:16:52better by yourself, right? And do better
- 1:16:54in your business. So what I mean by that
- 1:16:56is um understanding like like I said
- 1:16:59earlier like when when you're going to
- 1:17:00have these these roadblocks if you will
- 1:17:03um within your current infrastructure
- 1:17:05and and and with with what you have to
- 1:17:08come like vehicle just again like just
- 1:17:10kind of knowing your inflection points
- 1:17:11of like okay at this point I'm going to
- 1:17:13need to step to this point. Um cuz I
- 1:17:15think like illuminating that path is
- 1:17:17definitely easier for you in the long
- 1:17:20run than than um guessing as you go.
- 1:17:23Like I I still think you should have a
- 1:17:25plan for where you're going and try to
- 1:17:27hit your marks. Um but like growing and
- 1:17:30scaling like again like if you're trying
- 1:17:32to scale like you need to be okay with
- 1:17:34knowing you're going to have to hire
- 1:17:35people, right? Cuz like in order to
- 1:17:37scale you need to sell and in order to
- 1:17:39sell you need to step out of your
- 1:17:40business for a sec, right? So like again
- 1:17:42I think it's a different conversation
- 1:17:43people having just started pick up and
- 1:17:45delivery with no laundrymat, no
- 1:17:47infrastructure like that to people that
- 1:17:48are like have a laundromat that's doing
- 1:17:50well but they want to bring up pick up
- 1:17:51and delivery. you know, those are kind
- 1:17:53of two different areas. But at the end
- 1:17:55of the day, like, you know, um
- 1:17:56especially for that laundromat, you you
- 1:17:58if you're having a single place, like
- 1:18:00there should be no reason you're not
- 1:18:02introducing that service as long as you
- 1:18:03know, especially with like sense, you
- 1:18:05can use Uber for driving and learning
- 1:18:07not to have drivers now. And again,
- 1:18:09there's a quality control with some of
- 1:18:11this stuff. and you know and
- 1:18:12understanding that. But I would say like
- 1:18:14best piece of advice to to scale fast is
- 1:18:17is is put put the right people in place
- 1:18:19like and understand that like you're
- 1:18:21going to have to pay to get right like
- 1:18:23there's there's a there's a there's an
- 1:18:24understanding as an entrepreneur as a
- 1:18:26business owner like yeah you have like
- 1:18:28you have to pay to get to places like
- 1:18:30and I have been a firm believer of like
- 1:18:34you know spend a dollar get a dollar one
- 1:18:36great like you know like we're making
- 1:18:37progress right like understanding like
- 1:18:41it's like you said in the beginning it's
- 1:18:42like it is kind of this like you hire
- 1:18:44and you're you make more money, you get
- 1:18:46to the point and you're going to dip for
- 1:18:47a sec and you kind of like, you know,
- 1:18:49you're just kind of like riding an
- 1:18:50upward wave is kind of the idea, right?
- 1:18:52Cuz cuz it does like the more the more
- 1:18:54people you get, the more supplies you
- 1:18:56have to get, the more you know,
- 1:18:58insurance and you know, all that stuff.
- 1:19:00It just it all kind of changes. So like
- 1:19:02again just having that forecasted I
- 1:19:04think is a lot easier to breathe dayto
- 1:19:05day and not seem like okay this month I
- 1:19:08forecasted xxx like okay but this month
- 1:19:11xxxxx happened it's like okay well at
- 1:19:13least had an idea of some of the stuff
- 1:19:15that was going to happen and it's not so
- 1:19:17much of this like monthtomonth swing
- 1:19:19shift of emotions and you know having an
- 1:19:22idea of what might come is always good
- 1:19:24and and yeah just again just having
- 1:19:25people in place like that's the only
- 1:19:28obviously I mean it's simple it's the
- 1:19:30only way to scale All right. Like you
- 1:19:32have to like understand that like you
- 1:19:34have to you have to step out of your
- 1:19:35business and you you're going to have to
- 1:19:37put people in place to get the job done.
- 1:19:39For sure.
- 1:19:40>> Yeah.
- 1:19:41>> Okay. I'm going to I'm going to put you
- 1:19:42on the spot one one time and then and
- 1:19:45then we can wrap this up unless you have
- 1:19:46anything else. Uh
- 1:19:49>> okay. Let's say let's say I came to you
- 1:19:51and I said,
- 1:19:54"Bo,
- 1:19:56my business is my pickup and delivery
- 1:19:59business is going to die if I can't get
- 1:20:0310 new customers this month."
- 1:20:08>> Okay.
- 1:20:09>> What would you advise me to do to get
- 1:20:13these new customers in the next 30 or 60
- 1:20:17days? Yeah, I'd say first move is
- 1:20:20calling. I mean, if it's dire
- 1:20:22circumstances, we'll we'll even go to
- 1:20:24two weeks. I'll say like tapping into
- 1:20:25your I I um with with any consulting we
- 1:20:28do, you know, we preach over and over
- 1:20:30like your network is your net worth type
- 1:20:32type situation. And I may not have ever
- 1:20:34even say that directly, but like just
- 1:20:36the idea behind like the more people you
- 1:20:39know, the more people you can call on in
- 1:20:41certain times, right? to like if you
- 1:20:43have people that you know again from
- 1:20:45from jobs or work or experiences,
- 1:20:49friends, family, like tap into those
- 1:20:52people, right? Like come support a
- 1:20:54brother out for for two weeks, right?
- 1:20:56Like give me some orders in the door. Um
- 1:20:58but no, like and having them tap into
- 1:21:00that their network, right? Like I mean
- 1:21:01there's referrals, there's gorilla
- 1:21:03marketing. Like I'm saying like I would
- 1:21:05again go back to the same thing like you
- 1:21:06need to get in front of as many people
- 1:21:08as you can as quickly as you can and and
- 1:21:10you need to start talking to people. You
- 1:21:12you know if there's a there's an
- 1:21:14inflection uh there's a difference
- 1:21:15between commercial and residential,
- 1:21:17right? Like how let's turn if you need
- 1:21:1910 residential customers. Let's turn
- 1:21:20that into three commercial customers,
- 1:21:22right? Like what are we doing to do
- 1:21:23those commercial customers? Well, we're
- 1:21:25calling we're following up with an
- 1:21:26email. or walking in places and and just
- 1:21:28really putting yourself out there. Um is
- 1:21:31is kind of the extent I would I would
- 1:21:33take that for sure. But yeah, I mean 10
- 1:21:36it's it's going to be it can be done
- 1:21:38like I'm I'm about to do it again. Like
- 1:21:40you know like I think that getting the
- 1:21:42way we were able to do that is getting
- 1:21:44in front of people putting ourselves at
- 1:21:46the right networking events you know
- 1:21:48asking relationships in kind
- 1:21:49sponsorships like people think you know
- 1:21:51to sponsor stuff you have to pay these
- 1:21:53ridiculous amounts of money. like no
- 1:21:54like if there's someone you can do their
- 1:21:56laundry and then you you can be a
- 1:21:57sponsor. There's auction, you know, you
- 1:21:59can be a sponsor of an auction and do a
- 1:22:00donation like you know I mean there's so
- 1:22:02many ways to like put yourself out there
- 1:22:04without spending a bunch of money cuz
- 1:22:07these people in this situation too
- 1:22:09probably are strapped for cash, right?
- 1:22:10Cuz they need all these clients, they
- 1:22:12need these customers. Um, but yeah, I
- 1:22:14would say my to boil it down without
- 1:22:18going on a tangent, like I would say
- 1:22:19like you you need to put yourself in
- 1:22:21front of anyone and everyone you can in
- 1:22:24the next two weeks, right? And you'd be
- 1:22:26surprised just that again consistency of
- 1:22:28getting out there and and putting
- 1:22:30yourself out there and putting your
- 1:22:31brand out there and and it it it'll it
- 1:22:33you'll get there for sure.
- 1:22:35>> Yeah, I love it. I mean, I think you're
- 1:22:37you're dead on. I always the way that I
- 1:22:39approach it is I do the thought exercise
- 1:22:41of like what if I did it would virtually
- 1:22:44guarantee that I would succeed, right?
- 1:22:45Like if I
- 1:22:48>> if I reached out to a thousand people in
- 1:22:51the next 30 days, do I think that I
- 1:22:53could get 1% of them
- 1:22:55>> to
- 1:22:56>> right,
- 1:22:57>> you know,
- 1:22:58>> to to do laundry, right? Like
- 1:23:00>> if if no, then you know what if I
- 1:23:02reached out to 10 thou what if I got in
- 1:23:03front of 10,000 people? How could I get
- 1:23:05in front of 10,000 people, right? Like,
- 1:23:07so it's it's uh I I love what you're
- 1:23:11saying cuz it to me most of the time
- 1:23:13it's just a volume thing, right? When I
- 1:23:16talk to, you know, consulting clients or
- 1:23:18somebody and they're like, "Hey, I can't
- 1:23:19find a laundromat for sale." And I'm
- 1:23:21like, "Okay, well, how many brokers have
- 1:23:24you called? How many direct mail letters
- 1:23:27have you sent?" Right. And a lot of
- 1:23:28times like, "Well, I just I browsed on
- 1:23:30BIS by sell, right?" I'm like, "Well,
- 1:23:32>> you and everybody else in their
- 1:23:33underwear at home in the couch, right?"
- 1:23:36Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:23:37>> I talk about like relationships, right?
- 1:23:39Like like knowing those people like you
- 1:23:41be like like popping up at a chamber
- 1:23:43event and you're like you're you're
- 1:23:44meeting a realtor that that literally
- 1:23:47sells 30 houses a month. Like you know
- 1:23:49like that one relationship could get you
- 1:23:52thousands of dollars in customers. You
- 1:23:53just don't know. You know what I mean?
- 1:23:54So like I would say like taking every
- 1:23:56you know I'll go back to a story that
- 1:23:58happened just a long time ago in a whole
- 1:23:59different industry. Like we were doing
- 1:24:00social media management or we were doing
- 1:24:02print advertising. We were selling
- 1:24:03essentially like print, you know, space
- 1:24:05for advertising um and just like a
- 1:24:08direct mailer. And uh the gentleman went
- 1:24:11in, we talked to him basically. He was
- 1:24:13like no on the spot. And then we were
- 1:24:15going to call him back and offer him a
- 1:24:17discounted rate. And he called back and
- 1:24:19actually bought like a year's worth of
- 1:24:21ads. and to like understand to like I
- 1:24:24guess what I'm trying to say about this
- 1:24:25is like you never know what's behind
- 1:24:26like a conversation, you know, and then
- 1:24:28like again like letting people come back
- 1:24:30to it and like like every conversation
- 1:24:32is worth a million dollars, you know,
- 1:24:34like and so like understanding like the
- 1:24:36more people you talk to Yeah. the deeper
- 1:24:37network you get like that's that's where
- 1:24:40like you don't even like that that's
- 1:24:41where you turn outbound into inbound,
- 1:24:43right? Like obviously the ultimate goal
- 1:24:45for any business is zero outbound, 100%
- 1:24:48inbound as far as like you know
- 1:24:50customers, clients, right? like but
- 1:24:52knowing that like those those that comes
- 1:24:55through like strong relationship
- 1:24:56building and um and it you know as a
- 1:24:58business owner if you're not prepared to
- 1:25:00build relationships like you should I I
- 1:25:02truly think you should think about
- 1:25:04something else because like that is
- 1:25:06every part of business is is
- 1:25:08relationships for sure
- 1:25:10>> customer that goes down to residential
- 1:25:11to commercial to like literally
- 1:25:13anything.
- 1:25:14>> Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Such good advice man.
- 1:25:17All right, my very last question I have
- 1:25:19for you
- 1:25:20>> is uh people were vibing with this
- 1:25:23thing. What's the best way they can
- 1:25:24connect with you?
- 1:25:25>> Yeah, I love it. Um Lada's Laundry. L O
- 1:25:28T T A S laundry. Um we're on Instagram.
- 1:25:32Um yeah, and then we have our website.
- 1:25:34Go check our website out. Um you know,
- 1:25:36without giving too big of a call, we
- 1:25:37work more specifically with consulting
- 1:25:39as well on on branding and and kind of
- 1:25:41what that can do for your business.
- 1:25:43Um, yeah, we'd love to chat if you're,
- 1:25:45you know, even if you're having this
- 1:25:47kind of reflection point of like where
- 1:25:50where should I go? Like we're always
- 1:25:51here to chat for sure. Uh, just hit us
- 1:25:53up on Instagram.
- 1:25:54>> Yeah, that's best place to find us.
- 1:25:57>> Love it, man. Love it. Well, listen, I
- 1:25:59appreciate you taking the time
- 1:26:01>> uh to come back and catch us up over the
- 1:26:04last year. I know it's been a very
- 1:26:05eventful year, a lot of growing pains.
- 1:26:07Uh but uh listen man, it sounds like
- 1:26:11you've laid that foundation to really,
- 1:26:14you know, take take the lead to that
- 1:26:16next level and uh it's just all natural
- 1:26:19part of that growth.
- 1:26:21>> Yeah. 2026 they they you're the horse.
- 1:26:24We're ready to take
- 1:26:26>> running. That's right.
- 1:26:29>> Cool. Jordan hat again. [snorts]
- 1:26:32>> Yeah. Well, hey, maybe we need to do an
- 1:26:35update in 2027 around this time.
- 1:26:38>> Yearly recap.
- 1:26:38>> Yeah, just an annual update of,
- 1:26:41>> you know, until you run the whole
- 1:26:44country.
- 1:26:46[clears throat]
- 1:26:46>> So, yeah. Sweet, man. Appreciate it.
- 1:26:50>> All right, man. Appreciate it. And, uh,
- 1:26:51hey, you're welcome here anytime. You
- 1:26:53don't have to wait a year. Uh, we can
- 1:26:55always we can always do something fun
- 1:26:56together. So, appreciate it.
- 1:26:58>> Awesome. Awesome. Well, we'll talk soon.
- 1:27:00>> All right. I hope you love that episode
- 1:27:01with Bo. So much good stuff. Uh like I
- 1:27:04said, he has been learning some tough
- 1:27:06lessons because his business has been
- 1:27:08growing so much it hurts. Incredible.
- 1:27:12And hey, wouldn't we all like that that
- 1:27:14problem to solve, right? Uh but some
- 1:27:17really valuable lessons he's been
- 1:27:18learning along the way. So again, I'm
- 1:27:20going to say it. Pick one thing, put it
- 1:27:23into action. Do it today if at all
- 1:27:26possible. And if not today, do it this
- 1:27:28week for sure. and we'll see you in the
- 1:27:30next one for some more action that you
- 1:27:33can take towards your goals. All right.
- 1:27:36All right. Let's do it. See you.
