  1. 0:00hello everyone this is Jason from Prime
  2. 0:01Time Aquatics and today we're going to
  3. 0:03do something a little bit different we
  4. 0:05wanted to actually take a look at the
  5. 0:06plants that we keep we are fairly new to
  6. 0:09keeping plants and so I wanted to give
  7. 0:10you the perspective of someone who's not
  8. 0:12an expert in Plants but we've got some
  9. 0:14plants here that are relatively easy to
  10. 0:16grow and we wanted to share that with
  11. 0:18you in case you're thinking about
  12. 0:19getting into plants and you're looking
  13. 0:20for something that's not going to cause
  14. 0:21you a lot of problems so stay tuned and
  15. 0:23we're going to show you what we've got
  16. 0:25all right so I wanted to start at this
  17. 0:27tank because there's a couple plants
  18. 0:29here that I think would be relatively
  19. 0:30easy for a new plant keeper by the way
  20. 0:33this is a tank if you go back in our 500
  21. 0:36subscriber thank you which happened a
  22. 0:37little while ago a month or so ago we
  23. 0:39haven't forgotten about you this is the
  24. 0:40tank that is going to fulfill that that
  25. 0:44promise to put some fish in here that
  26. 0:46you guys want to see and based on a lot
  27. 0:48of the suggestions we felt we could do a
  28. 0:50planted tank and so the plants are in
  29. 0:52here we got to get the fish in and that
  30. 0:53will be coming soon but this tank also
  31. 0:57is a good example of some plants that
  32. 0:59are really easy to grow and so in this
  33. 1:0229 we have in the the center here this
  34. 1:05is uh water wisteria and this started
  35. 1:08out as a very small plant and it has
  36. 1:10just gone absolutely crazy and one of
  37. 1:12the things that you'll see as this plant
  38. 1:14starts to grow is it actually starts to
  39. 1:16send out Runners all along the bottom
  40. 1:20and you can see that here and it was
  41. 1:22just one little plant in the back and
  42. 1:24now it's really starting to take off and
  43. 1:26the only thing that we put in this tank
  44. 1:28to start is some easy green liquid
  45. 1:31fertilizer and I've got a review of that
  46. 1:34product it's fantastic it really helps a
  47. 1:36lot I will put a card up in the top hand
  48. 1:39corner of the video right now
  49. 1:41so that is definitely one I think a lot
  50. 1:43of people could do well on with just
  51. 1:45some liquid fertilizer I don't have any
  52. 1:47CO2 in this tank this is gravel just
  53. 1:50regular black gravel so no special
  54. 1:52substrate the light on top is a phoenix
  55. 1:55Stingray and it's a 29 gallon so it's a
  56. 1:57you know it's a decently deep tank and
  57. 1:59the light is plenty sufficient to allow
  58. 2:02this thing to grow so this is definitely
  59. 2:04a plant the water Wisteria if you have a
  60. 2:07chance to get that as a new plant keeper
  61. 2:09it's probably going to do fairly well at
  62. 2:11least it has for us
  63. 2:13the other plant that does really well
  64. 2:14for us is this one right here
  65. 2:17and that is one Daddy and we've got
  66. 2:19this in a number of Tanks this was a
  67. 2:21very tiny plant that was in our five and
  68. 2:24a half gallon and it got huge like this
  69. 2:26and so we took it out and put it in this
  70. 2:28tank and it's doing really great again
  71. 2:31we have the uh easy green again it's
  72. 2:36just regular black gravel and the
  73. 2:38Finnick Stingray light and this plant
  74. 2:40generally grows in just about any tank
  75. 2:42we put it in so a very easy plant I like
  76. 2:45its appearance it's kind of I can get
  77. 2:48quite large you can break it apart over
  78. 2:51by the roots and plant new plants the
  79. 2:54nice thing about the water Wisteria is
  80. 2:56you can cut off a stem float it when you
  81. 2:58start to see Roots grow like you're
  82. 3:00starting to see right there
  83. 3:02you can plant those roots if you want
  84. 3:04and then you're going to get what you
  85. 3:06see down here
  86. 3:07so these are definitely two of the
  87. 3:10easier plants this plant over here is a
  88. 3:13sword I don't remember what kind of
  89. 3:15Sword it was we got it from a local fish
  90. 3:16Club it's there it's surviving it's
  91. 3:19looking okay we have hit or missed luck
  92. 3:22with our swords the one thing that we
  93. 3:23have to be careful of is when you have
  94. 3:26sword plants and a tank that's got
  95. 3:27bristlenose sometimes they will be a
  96. 3:29little bit hard on the sword plants
  97. 3:30they're not as the leaves aren't as
  98. 3:32thick but this one's doing okay even
  99. 3:34though we've got two smells smaller
  100. 3:36bristl nose in there but I don't know if
  101. 3:38it's necessarily a good beginner plant
  102. 3:39at least for me it's can be like I said
  103. 3:42Hit or Miss but certainly the water
  104. 3:45wisteria and the when Daddy
  105. 3:48definitely good options so I'm going to
  106. 3:51go ahead and take you to another place
  107. 3:53in our fish room
  108. 3:55another plant that's been pretty good
  109. 3:56for us and it's the one right here in
  110. 3:58the center is anubias all types of
  111. 4:01anubias have grown fairly well they
  112. 4:03don't grow fast and if you use too much
  113. 4:05light they're prone to getting some
  114. 4:06algae on the leaves which grams horn
  115. 4:09snails will more than take care of as
  116. 4:12you can see here all along the substrate
  117. 4:13this happens to be in our peacock
  118. 4:16gudgeon tank but it's been growing well
  119. 4:17it's a relatively low light plant in
  120. 4:21this tank I think at one point I did put
  121. 4:23in
  122. 4:24some root tabs but it's been a while
  123. 4:28maybe over a year but this plant this
  124. 4:31tank will sometimes also get
  125. 4:34some
  126. 4:35Liquid Fertilizer
  127. 4:37but you can see here it's it's a good
  128. 4:38plant like I said it's not going to grow
  129. 4:40fast but most the time most beginners
  130. 4:42will do okay with it the other plant
  131. 4:44that I think it's just if you really
  132. 4:47just want something to grow this stuff
  133. 4:49at the top
  134. 4:51hornwort is it grows like a weed we
  135. 4:56started out we've got a bunch here in
  136. 4:58this peacock Gadget tank as you can see
  137. 5:00that started out as basically just a
  138. 5:03little tiny piece and it all all the
  139. 5:06horn we have originated from this
  140. 5:09Superette bristlenose tank and this tank
  141. 5:11it was literally we got it with some
  142. 5:14cherry shrimp it was one little tiny
  143. 5:17Branch or piece and it didn't grow for a
  144. 5:21long time and then all of a sudden it
  145. 5:23started to grow and I started to Branch
  146. 5:25off and pretty soon we had a bunch of it
  147. 5:27and I pull stuff out of this tank just
  148. 5:30about every week and feed it to fish
  149. 5:31that will eat it tin foil barbs like to
  150. 5:34eat it severums will eat it
  151. 5:36some cichlids will eat it we have some
  152. 5:39tilapia that will eat this stuff but you
  153. 5:42can see here this tank is overrun with
  154. 5:44it it's okay because I've got cherry
  155. 5:45shrimp in there and they're really
  156. 5:46enjoying that but you can see there's a
  157. 5:48lot here
  158. 5:49if we go over to the uh regular
  159. 5:53bristlenose tank there's a bunch in here
  160. 5:54and again it's great because we have a
  161. 5:57ton of red cherry shrimp in this tank
  162. 6:00but you can see it's a lot and so we do
  163. 6:02uh we do pull a lot of this stuff out
  164. 6:05just to keep it down because it does
  165. 6:07block the light of other plants that we
  166. 6:09have in the tank and it's in just about
  167. 6:12every tank that we have here we can see
  168. 6:15it in with our Thrifty's macular penis
  169. 6:17and if I go around the fish room it's up
  170. 6:20there
  171. 6:21it's in there I have it in the
  172. 6:25multi-tank here if we come down here
  173. 6:28into this 20 there is some up here this
  174. 6:31is where this is really just a
  175. 6:33quarantine tank but it's here as well if
  176. 6:37we go over to the Oscar tank you would
  177. 6:40see it in there
  178. 6:42up in our cichlid tank so basically it
  179. 6:44really is everywhere and one of the nice
  180. 6:47things about this plant
  181. 6:49is it will use up nitrates it like I
  182. 6:52said it will grow super fast and the
  183. 6:55lighting
  184. 6:56it's growing best under the Phoenix
  185. 6:59stingrays but it's it's really gross it
  186. 7:02grows and it sucks up a lot of the
  187. 7:05nitrates in the tank which is a good
  188. 7:06thing that's why we have it in so many
  189. 7:08of our tanks and like I said when it
  190. 7:10gets to be too much we wind up just
  191. 7:12feeding it to the fish that will eat it
  192. 7:16another type of plant that will grow
  193. 7:18like crazy is guppy grass this is a
  194. 7:21guppy tank believe it or not and one of
  195. 7:24the nice things about this stuff kind of
  196. 7:26like the horn word is it will it'll take
  197. 7:28a tank over if you want it to and we can
  198. 7:31see here we've got the guppy grass and
  199. 7:33there's another anubias here
  200. 7:35but this stuff is great for a couple
  201. 7:37reasons and there's a couple reasons why
  202. 7:38we have it in this tank reason number
  203. 7:40one is when our Guppies have fry they
  204. 7:44get kind of caught up in the guppy grass
  205. 7:46and so the adults can't eat them and so
  206. 7:47if you're looking for
  207. 7:49some type of vegetation that's going to
  208. 7:51help protect fry from predation this is
  209. 7:54a great option guppy grass the hornwort
  210. 7:56that I just mentioned is a fantastic
  211. 7:58option for that as well also both of
  212. 8:01these are great if you are trying to
  213. 8:03raise shrimp and so they'll have places
  214. 8:06to kind of hang on to places to hide if
  215. 8:08you've got fishing in the tank and you
  216. 8:10don't want the shrimpless to get eaten
  217. 8:12so all of this definitely helps in fact
  218. 8:15there is a little tiny fry
  219. 8:18know if we can see it right there up
  220. 8:20just went behind
  221. 8:21The Guppy grass that's in there but
  222. 8:24again makes it a little bit easier for
  223. 8:26them to survive with such
  224. 8:28a thick group of guppy grass
  225. 8:35all right the last plant I wanted to
  226. 8:36mention is this right here it's water
  227. 8:38Sprite this one again it's we have
  228. 8:41pretty good luck with it it's a like
  229. 8:45most of what we've mentioned it does
  230. 8:47better if you do some liquid fertilizers
  231. 8:50but on this tank we've just got an old
  232. 8:53fluorescent light
  233. 8:55substrate is just regular old pool
  234. 8:58filter sand no root tabs or anything
  235. 9:00like that because this is primarily a
  236. 9:02water column feeding plant anyway so a
  237. 9:06little bit of easy green
  238. 9:08fertilizer and it stays in pretty good
  239. 9:11shape if there's any downside to this
  240. 9:13plant every once in a while it will be
  241. 9:15stubborn at least in terms of its
  242. 9:16rooting you can float this plant just
  243. 9:19like you can Flo float the Wisteria but
  244. 9:23again it's it's a nice plant it's got
  245. 9:26very thin leaves some fish will eat it
  246. 9:29you know again you have to do your
  247. 9:30homework in terms of the size or the
  248. 9:32types of fish that you plan to keep with
  249. 9:33plants but in terms of growth and ease
  250. 9:36of you know being able to grow it and
  251. 9:39make it look good this is a pretty good
  252. 9:41plant for beginners I think we've had
  253. 9:42pretty good luck with it
  254. 9:45the last plant I wanted to mention was
  255. 9:47java fern and this is one where we have
  256. 9:49it in some of our tanks here you can see
  257. 9:51it in a 20 gallon with some barred
  258. 9:53goodies this is a plant for us that
  259. 9:56we've probably got it in five or six
  260. 9:58tanks it doesn't really grow all that
  261. 10:00fast for us again what we're doing is
  262. 10:03very very low Tech there's a phoenix
  263. 10:04Stingray on here we've got just plain
  264. 10:06old black gravel and that's about all we
  265. 10:10have in any of the tanks that have this
  266. 10:12particular plant in those tanks we do
  267. 10:15some depending on the plants we will put
  268. 10:17in some liquid fertilizers this tank
  269. 10:18gets some liquid fertilizers I believe
  270. 10:21there is we put root tabs in this tank
  271. 10:24for this java fern in the job of ferns
  272. 10:27that we have but it's a good plant for
  273. 10:29us it doesn't grow particularly fast and
  274. 10:31we found that after we plant it
  275. 10:33sometimes we'll get some die off but it
  276. 10:36does do a pretty good job it is pretty
  277. 10:38Hardy
  278. 10:40all right everyone so I hope you enjoyed
  279. 10:41that again just wanted to give you a
  280. 10:43little bit of background as to some of
  281. 10:44the plants that we think are super easy
  282. 10:46to keep plants that I think would be
  283. 10:48great for a beginner and would allow you
  284. 10:50some success early on so if you like
  285. 10:52this video share it subscribe and we'll
  286. 10:54see in the next one
