- 0:17is all about multiplication and division
- 0:19of monomials. But before we start our
- 0:21lesson, if you're new here, subscribe
- 0:24para po updated ka sa ating mga lessons.
- 0:26And to my fellow teachers, we also offer
- 0:28our editable PowerPoint presentations to
- 0:31save you time in your lesson
- 0:32preparation. You can check the link
- 0:34below or message us on our Facebook
- 0:36page. All right, so let's get started
- 0:39with our lesson.
- 0:42Okay, so class at the end of this
- 0:44lesson, you will be able to multiply and
- 0:46divide simple monomials leading to the
- 0:49derivation of the loss of exponent.
- 0:52Okay. So, proceed na po tayo kaagad sa
- 0:54multiplying monomials. Ano po yung rule
- 0:57natin when it comes to multiplication?
- 0:59Okay, so let's have this exploration po
- 1:01muna. We will observe this example so
- 1:04that at the end we are able to derive
- 1:06kung paano po yung rule when it comes to
- 1:09multiplication of monomials. So, as you
- 1:11can see, we have here two monomials
- 1:14multiplied to each other. We have here
- 1:16x^ 3 or x cu
- 1:19x^ 4 or to^ 4. So ano po 'yung magiging
- 1:23sagot niya? The first thing we are going
- 1:25to do is to expand. So the way to expand
- 1:29this is since this is x 3 we are going
- 1:32to write down 3x. Since x 3 means
- 1:37multiply x by itself 3 times. So that's
- 1:40why we have here 3x. Paano naman po yung
- 1:43x^ 4? Ilang x po yan? Correct? There are
- 1:464x. Okay? Ito na po yung tinatawag
- 1:49nating mga factors. Ano po ang factors?
- 1:53Factors are numbers or variables
- 1:55multiplied together to form a product.
- 1:58Okay. So ano pong gagawin natin sa mga
- 2:00factors na to? We are going to combine.
- 2:03Okay? Combine natin yung mga factors. So
- 2:06in our first monomial, x^ 3, we have 3
- 2:09factors of x. And then x^ 4 we have 4
- 2:12factors of 4. Ia-add lang po natin sila.
- 2:15Pagsasamahin natin silang lahat. So
- 2:17ilang x na po iyan? There are 1 2 3 4 5
- 2:216 and 7. So ano po kaya ang magiging
- 2:24sagot? Yes, it's actually x 7. The
- 2:28question is, do the expressions have the
- 2:30same base? Pare-parehas po ba yung base
- 2:33nung dalawang monomial? Yes. Ano po yung
- 2:36base nila? It's x. Another question,
- 2:40what happen to the exponents? Ano pong
- 2:42nangyari sa ating mga exponents? 3 and
- 2:464. Bakit siya naging seven? Okay,
- 2:49correct. Ang ginawa lang natin dito is
- 2:51we add the two exponents. That's why our
- 2:55exponent on our answer is 7.
- 3:00Okay. Another example here we have here
- 3:02x^ 4
- 3:05y^ 6. What will be our answer? So if
- 3:09we're going to do the same process
- 3:10kanina we are going to expand. So we
- 3:13have here x^ 4. Ilang factors po yung
- 3:15ating x diyan? There are 4 factors of x.
- 3:19And then next one. Ilang factors po yung
- 3:22ating y6? Okay ganun din po. Anim no?
- 3:26Depende sa ating exponent. So that is
- 3:29the expansion. These are the factors.
- 3:31Now we are going to combine these
- 3:33factors. So how do we combine these two
- 3:35factors? Okay. The answer here is x 4
- 3:41y6.
- 3:42May nagbago po ba sa kanila? Okay.
- 3:45Parang pinagdikit lang po natin sila.
- 3:48Ano? We cannot combine this two because
- 3:52they have different base. Okay? Magkaiba
- 3:55po yung base nila. So we cannot just
- 3:57make this uh 10 no? Hindi natin pwedeng
- 4:01i-add yung 4 and then six to make it 10
- 4:04because they have different base. So
- 4:07again, do the do the expressions have
- 4:09the same base? Hindi po. Okay. What
- 4:12else? What happen to the exponents? As
- 4:15is po yung ating mga exponents. Wala
- 4:17pong nangyari. We just write them beside
- 4:20each other. Wala na po yung
- 4:21multiplication sign. Yan na po yung
- 4:23mismong sagot.
- 4:25Okay. So based on those two
- 4:27explorations, we can now derive the rule
- 4:29on multiplying monomials. Okay. So ano
- 4:32po yung rule natin? O po. So we have
- 4:34here x m x n x m + n. Meaning if we have
- 4:42here a base which is x and then we have
- 4:45an exponent which is m and then we will
- 4:48multiply it with another po monomial
- 4:50which is x^ n. Ang gagawin lang po natin
- 4:54sa mga exponents nila ay ia-add lang po
- 4:56natin. So whether uh magkaiba or parehas
- 4:59ang kanilang exponents, we can just add
- 5:02the exponent. Ang tawag po natin sa rule
- 5:04na ito ay product rule. Okay? And take
- 5:08note, this rule only works if the bases
- 5:11are the same. Halimbawa, we have x or a
- 5:15or number man yan. As long as parehas po
- 5:18iyung base, we can apply this rule. Pag
- 5:20magkaiba na po yung bases nila just like
- 5:23in exploration number two, we cannot
- 5:26just add the exponents. Kokopyahin lang
- 5:28po natin. Okay? So ito po ang product
- 5:32rule.
- 5:34Okay. To give you an example, we have
- 5:36here an activity. Let's find the product
- 5:38of the following monomials. Okay. Again,
- 5:41so you can always pause this video if
- 5:43you want to answer this on your own
- 5:45first. But if you want to watch first
- 5:48this examples, you just follow along
- 5:50while we answer each number. Okay? So
- 5:52una, number one, we have here x^ 8
- 5:55x^ 2. So following our product rule,
- 5:59let's check first kung parehas po ba ang
- 6:01kanilang base. All right. Do they have
- 6:03the same base? Okay, tama. Now we will
- 6:07just add the exponent. So therefore our
- 6:09answer is x^ 10. Okay? 8 + 2 is equ to
- 6:1410. And then kinopy lang natin yung base
- 6:17niya. Next one. Do they share a common
- 6:20base? Yes. And then we just add 2 and 3.
- 6:22So the answer is a 5. Next. Parehas ba
- 6:27ang base? Yes. Okay. Not necessarily
- 6:30variable. So 2 yung base natin and then
- 6:34ang exponent natin ay 2 and 5. So we
- 6:37just add this we will get 7. You can
- 6:40further uh simplify this by multiplying
- 6:44two seven times to itself. Okay? Para
- 6:46makuha niyo yung final answer. Pero
- 6:48pwede na rin ito depende sa teachers
- 6:50niyo. Okay? Next one we have here y 4 y.
- 6:55So since wala itong exponent ang ibig
- 6:58sabihin niyan it is rais to 1. Okay?
- 7:01Therefore we just add 1 and then 4. So
- 7:04magiging y 5 again kaya naging 5 kasi
- 7:09may one siya dito. Next we have here uh
- 7:13three monomials multiplied. Okay? So
- 7:16paano ito? So do they share a common
- 7:19base? Yes they share X and then Y. Dito.
- 7:23X and Y. x and y din. So first let's
- 7:27have x. Okay? Ano ba ang exponent ng x?
- 7:30Exponent niya dito is 1. Exponent niya
- 7:32dito sa second is 2. And then exponent
- 7:35niya dito is 1. So you just add those
- 7:37three. 1 + 2 + 1, it will give you 4.
- 7:42Next one we have y. Exponent niya ay 2.
- 7:45Dito naman ay 1. Dito naman ay 1. So ang
- 7:48sagot natin ganito. Alr. Ia-add lang
- 7:52natin lahat ng exponent. Therefore, our
- 7:55final answer is x^ 4 y^ 4.
- 8:01Okay, let's have more example. We have
- 8:03here number 6. We have here monomial 9x^
- 8:073 or 9x cu y 4 and then multiplied to
- 8:114x² y³. So ano pong pinagkaiba nito sa
- 8:15mga examples natin kanina? So if you
- 8:18observe meron na po tayong mga numerical
- 8:21coefficients yung 9 and then 4. So what
- 8:23do we do with this? So just like in our
- 8:26exploration we can expand this just to
- 8:29demonstrate no para lang ma-explain ko
- 8:31sa inyo. If we expand all the factors we
- 8:34still have 9 and 4 as factors dito. So
- 8:37mu-multiply lang natin sila. Okay? 'Yung
- 8:40mga factors ng x cu nandito. 1 2 3.
- 8:43Factors ng x² 1 and 2. Gann din po sa y.
- 8:47Alr. So all you have to do is to
- 8:50multiply
- 8:519 and 4, you will get 36. And then you
- 8:54combine all these factors. X^ 5, y^ 7. 3
- 8:59+ 2 ito kaya naging 5. And then 4 + 3 to
- 9:03make it 7. So again, just multiply the
- 9:05numerical coefficients if there are
- 9:08coefficients. Okay? Kailangan pa bang
- 9:11isulat natin itong expanded form? No, no
- 9:14need po. No'no? Sinulat ko lang po 'yan
- 9:16for demonstration. You can go away with
- 9:18this and directly write the final
- 9:21answer.
- 9:23Next number seven we have here uh we
- 9:25still have numerical coefficients. -5 x³
- 9:29y² * 3x³ cu y^ 4. So let's multiply -5
- 9:36we will get -15 and then x³ cu x³ cu
- 9:41just add 3 + 3 we get x^ 6 y² * y^ 4 2 +
- 9:484 is 6 okay -1x^
- 9:526 y^ 6 okay for our last example we have
- 9:56here - uh 6 a^ 3 bc^ 4 -3 3
- 10:04C D. Okay. So anong pinagkaiba naman
- 10:08nung number eight na ito? So if you
- 10:10observe dito sa second monomial meron na
- 10:13tayong extra na variable na wala dito sa
- 10:16first monomial. So what do we do with
- 10:18this one? Ganun din po. All we have to
- 10:21do is to multiply yung mga common na ah
- 10:25elements nila o yung mga variables nila
- 10:27or even the numerical coefficient. So -6
- 10:30* -3 ah we get + 18. A^ 3 * A is A^ 4.
- 10:39B B since ang exponent nila ay 1, we
- 10:43just add 1 + 1 you get 2. Okay? B 2.
- 10:47Next C 4 * C^ 1. 4 + 1 is 5. So we have
- 10:54C^ 5. And then since si D wala naman
- 10:57siyang partner dito sa first monomial,
- 11:00you just add or you just uh copy yung D
- 11:04natin dito. Okay? Therefore, our answer
- 11:06is 18. A^ 4 B s c^ 5 D.
- 11:13Not all bases are the same. Doesn't need
- 11:16na magkakaparehas lahat ng bases dito.
- 11:20Okay. So those are our examples for
- 11:22multiplying monomials. Okay. So let's
- 11:25now proceed to dividing monomials. But
- 11:27before that, let's have first a short
- 11:29commercial break for our dear teachers.
- 11:40[Musika]
- 11:46[Palakpakan]
- 11:56[Palakpakan]
- 12:00[Musika]
- 12:05Okay. So first let's explore these
- 12:07examples. So we can also derive the
- 12:09rules in division of monomials. Okay? So
- 12:12we have here the first
- 12:14fraction. As you can see we have 5 / 5
- 12:18or 5 / 5. So anong sagot dito? Okay? Yes
- 12:23correct. It is 1. Okay ah in short we
- 12:26can just cancel this out. Okay? Meaning
- 12:29ah magiging one na po siya. Okay, it is
- 12:32equal to 1. And also with this one, -3 /
- 12:36-3, we just uh remove or cancel this
- 12:40out. Magiging uh one. No, 'yun po 'yung
- 12:42ginagawa natin when the numerator and
- 12:45denominator are the same. So nagiging
- 12:48one lang po siya. Hindi po zero ha, one
- 12:51lang. Okay, take note of that. So next,
- 12:54what can you say about its dividend and
- 12:57divisor? So, where is the dividend?
- 13:01Okay, the one in the numerators. Okay,
- 13:03so we have 5, -3, and 10. These are all
- 13:06the dividends and then the divisor are
- 13:09the one in the denominator. So parehas
- 13:13lang po ano, we have same numerator and
- 13:15denominator. So we have same dividend
- 13:18and divisor. Next what you what have you
- 13:21noticed in the quoti of the given
- 13:24integer? Okay? So ano po ang kanilang
- 13:26sagot? Lahat po iyan ay 1. Allr. So
- 13:31let's explore more on this example. We
- 13:33have here a variable x with an exponent
- 13:36of 5 and then sa denominator a variable
- 13:39x with an exponent of 3. So how do we
- 13:43divide this? We will expand first. Kunin
- 13:46natin yung mga factors. Okay? So we have
- 13:48here x. Ilan po bang x ang factor nito?
- 13:51So there are 1 2 3 4 5. That's why it
- 13:55was x^ 5. Next one. How many x dito sa
- 13:59denominator? Yes, 3. Okay. Now, just
- 14:03like in dividing those fractions, we can
- 14:05actually cancel out kung ano iyung nasa
- 14:08numerator na nasa denominator din. So we
- 14:11can cancel this first pair, second pair
- 14:15and then third pair. So ano na po yung
- 14:17naiwan? We have 2x on the numerator. So
- 14:21yun na po yung ating sagot. Since dito
- 14:25sa baba, ano na po ang naiwan dito sa
- 14:27denominator?
- 14:29Okay hindi po siya zero. Okay? May
- 14:32naiwan pa rin po dito na one na hindi
- 14:34lang po naisulat. Okay. Therefore, itong
- 14:37dalawang x na to ang denominator nila ay
- 14:401. So just combine this factors,
- 14:42magiging x 2 na po siya. Okay. So, what
- 14:46did we observe from this? Do the
- 14:49expressions have the same base? Yes,
- 14:52parehase.
- 14:53Next, what happen to the exponents? So,
- 14:57anong nangyari sa mga exponents natin?
- 15:00Yung 5 tsaka 3 dito, ang naging result
- 15:03sa final answer ay 2. So anong ginawa
- 15:05natin kay 5 and 3 para maging 2?
- 15:10Okay, correct. We just subtracted those
- 15:13two exponents. Okay? So kung kanina sa
- 15:17multiplication
- 15:18nag-add tayo, ngayon naman ay
- 15:21magsu-subtract tayo. Ito na po yung
- 15:23tinatawag nating quotient rule. Sa
- 15:26product rule, nag-add tayo ng exponents.
- 15:29Dito sa quotient rule, magsu-subtract po
- 15:32tayo. It's the opposite. So if you have
- 15:34here x m or any exponents divided by x^
- 15:38n or any exponent, we just subtract m
- 15:41and n. So it will be x^ m - n. Ah by the
- 15:46way, this rules, this rule only works if
- 15:49the bases are the same. Parehas din po
- 15:51sa product rule. Dapat parehas po ang
- 15:53base nila. Kung magkaiba po ang base
- 15:55nila, you cannot apply this rule. Okay?
- 15:58Another thing to take note is ito po
- 16:01'pag negative 'yung exponent. Halimbawa,
- 16:03we have here x^ m and then x^ n. 'Ag
- 16:06pinag-subtract mo sila, ang lalabas ay
- 16:09negative. Anong gagawin natin? Okay.
- 16:12Yung magiging numerator natin is 1.
- 16:16Tapos yung variable na may negative
- 16:18exponent mapupunta dito sa denominator.
- 16:21At ang kanyang exponent ay magiging
- 16:23positive. So mamaya magbibigay po tayo
- 16:26ng example nito. Al right. Where m is
- 16:29less n. Okay? Kaya magiging negative
- 16:32iyung
- 16:33exponent niya. Okay. So we have here
- 16:35this examples. So again, if you want to
- 16:37answer this first para lang matry mo,
- 16:39ma-test mo, you can do so. Pero if you
- 16:42want to watch first this examples,
- 16:44panoorin niyo po muna yung gagawin
- 16:46natin. So number one, we have here m^5,
- 16:50n^ 7 o^3 / m^ 4 n^ 3 o3.
- 16:58So the first question is pare-parehas ba
- 17:00ang kanilang base? Yes, pare-parehas.
- 17:03Now, can we apply the quotient rule?
- 17:06Yes. So, we have here the answer. M n I
- 17:11mean m n. Okay. Paano po nangyari? 5 - 4
- 17:17is 1. That's why we have here m^ 1. Do
- 17:20we need to write one here? No. Next one.
- 17:247 - 3 is 4. So we have here n.
- 17:29Next, dito naman po sa O, 3 - 3 is 0.
- 17:34Okay. So, any number or variable with an
- 17:38exponent of zero is equal to 1. Hindi po
- 17:42zero ha. one lagi. So, do we need to
- 17:45write one here? No need. Okay. Kaya ito
- 17:48cancel out na po iyan. Pag parehas po
- 17:50ang exponent ng nasa numerator at nasa
- 17:53denominator with the same base, you just
- 17:55cancel out. Okay. Dito sa number two,
- 17:58okay? Nbigay ko na po yung sagot. We
- 18:00have here 8x 5 / 2x 2. So pag may mga
- 18:06numerical coefficient tayo dito, we just
- 18:09divide. So 8 / 2 is 4. And then for our
- 18:14x 5 - 2 is 3. That's why 4x^ 3. Okay.
- 18:19Next number 3. Ano 'yung magiging sagot
- 18:21natin? So we have here -3
- 18:25df
- 18:272. So paano nangyari yon? -21 / 7 is -3.
- 18:34Next one. D^ 3 / D^ 2.
- 18:39So you just write D. Okay? Ra to 1 yan
- 18:43pero huwag na nating isulat yung 1. Next
- 18:45one E7. And then meron ding E7 dito sa
- 18:49baba. You can just cancel this out.
- 18:51Okay, cancel this out. Next, f
- 18:55/ f^ 3. 5 - 3 is 2. That's why f 2.
- 19:00Okay. Number 4. We have here -54 / 9.
- 19:06Okay. Pag dinivide natin ito magiging
- 19:08pos 6. Okay, that's why we have here 6.
- 19:11Dito naman sa x natin we have x^ 5 / x^
- 19:153. 5 - 3 is 2. Okay? And then dito y 8 /
- 19:22y^ 7 8 - 7 is 1. That's why we have y
- 19:28we don't need to write 1. Okay? Ganun
- 19:31lang po siya.
- 19:34Okay? Let's have number five. This time,
- 19:36ano po ang pinagkaiba nito sa previous
- 19:38examples natin? If you notice iyung nasa
- 19:41numerator natin, tatlo po iyung variable
- 19:44diyan while here in the denominator,
- 19:46dalawa lang. So meron pong Z na walang
- 19:49pares dito sa denominator. Okay. So if
- 19:52we divide 36 by -4, our answer is okay
- 19:57-9. Okay, next one. We have here x^ 3.
- 20:01X^ 2 naman dito sa denominator. 3 - 2 is
- 20:061. That's why we have here x only. Next,
- 20:09y^ 3 / y^ 3. Cancel this out. So wala na
- 20:13po yung y diyan. And then we just copy
- 20:16yung zito po sa numerator. Okay? So
- 20:20ganun lang po. Next for number six.
- 20:23Okay, let's find out kung ano ang
- 20:24gagawin natin dito. In this examples
- 20:28from 6 to 8, you have to pay attention
- 20:30kasi iba sa mga previous examples natin.
- 20:33If you notice yung mga nandito sa
- 20:35numerator, mas maliit po yung kanilang
- 20:38exponent as compared sa mga nandito sa
- 20:41denominator. So eventually our answer
- 20:44will be negative. Remember 2 - 5 is -3
- 20:50and then 3 - 4 is -1. So ang sagot natin
- 20:54ganito. X^-3
- 20:57y-1.
- 20:59Pero meron po ba tayong polynomial na
- 21:03negative ang exponents? If you go back
- 21:05to our previous lesson on what
- 21:07polynomial is,
- 21:09okay, wala po. So ang gagawin natin,
- 21:12ico-convert natin ito sa polynomial. So
- 21:16using our quotient rule, yung nabanggit
- 21:18po natin kanina na negative exponents,
- 21:22ang gagawin lang natin is ibababa natin
- 21:25ang mga ito. So magiging fraction na po
- 21:28siya.
- 21:29Okay. And this fraction, if you notice,
- 21:32meron na po tayong numerator na one sa
- 21:34taas. Tapos ito itong mga ito na
- 21:38negative ang kanilang exponents, ibinaba
- 21:40lang po natin sa denominator. Now, pag
- 21:43binaba na natin sa denominator, yung
- 21:45negative na exponents, magiging positive
- 21:47na po siya. So we have here x^ 3 + 3 and
- 21:52then y + 1 okay instead of - 1. Okay
- 21:57ganun lang po siya. Now for number seven
- 22:00we have here another example kung saan
- 22:03may mga variables din tayo na mas maliit
- 22:06ang exponents as compared dito sa baba.
- 22:09Take note, negative po yung ating
- 22:10numerator and then positive yung ating
- 22:12denominator. So ah pag ganito po laging
- 22:15ang sagot natin is negative. Okay.
- 22:18Negative divided by positive is
- 22:20negative. So the next one is we will now
- 22:23subtract the exponents. Okay? So ito po
- 22:25ang magiging ah sagot niya. -3a^-1,
- 22:31b^-2
- 22:32and then c. Since wala naman pong C dito
- 22:36sa denominator, we just copy iyung Co.
- 22:41Next, since we we cannot have a negative
- 22:44exponent, ibababa ulit natin itong mga
- 22:47variables. So hindi po lahat ibababa
- 22:51yung mga may negative na exponents lang
- 22:53po ang ibababa natin sa denominator. And
- 22:57then yung numerator niya magiging 1.
- 23:00Pero in this case we have a -3
- 23:05numerical coefficient. So yun na po yung
- 23:08magiging numerator niya. Okay? Yun na po
- 23:10yung magiging numerator niya. So we have
- 23:13-3
- 23:14Casi
- 23:16positive naman po yung kanyang exponent.
- 23:19No need to bring it down. over a b ah
- 23:24sorry a b 2 okay since itong dalawang
- 23:27variables na ito sila lang po yung may
- 23:30negative na exponent
- 23:34okay for number 8 we have here -9 /
- 23:38npano
- 23:40po nangyari yan we don't need to write
- 23:43this part yung mga may negative na
- 23:45exponent pwede nating idiretso na sa
- 23:47final answer kung saan yung mga negative
- 23:50exponents natin is ilalagay na natin
- 23:53dito sa denominator. Okay? So again,
- 23:5672/8
- 23:58is -9. Okay? Yun po ang nasa numerator
- 24:02natin yung numerical coefficient. Next,
- 24:06yung mga variables po natin, we have
- 24:07here m 2. M^2 din po dito sa
- 24:11denominator. You can just cancel this
- 24:13out. So huwag na po nating idagdag sa
- 24:15sagot. Next, n^ 2 / n^ 3. Since ang
- 24:20sagot natin dito is -1, ang kanyang
- 24:24variable ay nasa denominator. Okay.
- 24:27Next, p / p^ 7 magiging -4 din po yung
- 24:33exponent dito. So, ilalagay din po natin
- 24:35siya sa denominator. Okay, that's why.
- 24:38So, ito po lahat yung mga examples
- 24:40natin. I hope uh naintindihan niyo po.
- 24:43Pwede niyo pong i backward kung meron
- 24:46pong mga numbers or items na hindi niyo
- 24:48pa naintindihan. So after this I'm now
- 24:51going to show you exercises so you can
- 24:54also practice on your own.
- 24:59Okay. So this is now your activity. You
- 25:01find the product or quotient of the
- 25:03following monomials. So part A is for
- 25:06the product and then part B is for the
- 25:09quotient. Okay, I'm going to give you a
- 25:11few minutes or take your time as much as
- 25:15you need. You can pause this video para
- 25:17po magawa niyo muna on separate sheet of
- 25:19paper and then you can just come back
- 25:21later to check your answers. Okay? Good
- 25:24luck po and God bless sa inyong
- 25:26pagsagot.
- 25:33Okay, I hope you are now ready. I'm now
- 25:34going to show you the answers for this
- 25:37activity. Okay. So, for letter A and
- 25:40letter B, ito na po 'yung mga sagot.
- 25:42Okay. Paki-check na po ang inyong mga uh
- 25:45answers and then I hope ah nakuha niyo
- 25:47po 'yung mga tamang sagot. Okay. So
- 25:50again, for our next lesson, we will now
- 25:53have multiplication and division of
- 25:55binomials and multinomials naman. Okay.
- 25:59So I hope to see you again on the next
- 26:01one. Thank you for listening. God bless
- 26:03and bye for now. Kung meron kang
