0:29Boomstick. And it's our job to analyze
0:31their weapons, armor, and skills to find
0:33out who would win a death battle.

0:48guy blew up the moon. As the sun set,
0:51only two combatants remained. The sagely
0:54Jackie Chun and the monkey kid, Son
0:56Goku. AND GOKU LOST. THE OLD MAN KICKED
1:00HIM IN THE FACE. WHAT THE HELL, MASTER
1:02ROSHI? I mean, uh, Jackie. But the young
1:05Goku earned a lesson far greater than
1:07any victory. No matter how strong you
1:09are, there's always someone stronger.
1:11And he took that personally. As in, the
1:14greatest opponent he trained to beat
1:16every single day was himself. Right.
1:19Even with Roshi's lesson, true
1:20competition [music] was pretty rare.
1:22This kid single-handedly dismantled the
1:24entire Red Ribbon army on his own. An
1:27enormous criminal military operation no
1:29nation could defeat. I bet Roshi just
1:31had a chip on his shoulder from when he
1:33took 50 years to make his special
1:35technique, but Goku got it in like 5
1:37seconds. THE KAMEHAMEHA.
1:40THE Kamehameha wave is Goku's signature
1:43move. Even though basically everyone
1:45else in Dragon Ball [music] also knows
1:46it, it's more like the building block to
1:48all Super Laser beams. Goku charges his
1:51key in one place before blasting it out
1:53all at once. It's impressive how Goku
1:56learned it so quickly. In fact, his
1:58ability to rapidly learn and copy moves
2:00would come in handy [music] when
2:01learning new techniques from his long
2:03list of masters. Two old dudes, a
2:06talking cat, Jolly Green Wrinkles, a
2:08blue gremlin who taught him the spirit
2:10bomb, some aliens who taught him how to
2:11teleport, and even a couple angels.
2:13Where the hell is he finding these guys?
2:16But not just from them. Goku made a
2:17habit of copying techniques from his
2:19rivals. The solar flare from Tien, the
2:22destru from Krillin, the after image
2:25from Jackie Chan. Even his flight
2:27[music] came not from his own turtle
2:28school of martial arts, but from the
2:30rival crane school, Boomstick. Can you
2:33name even one technique that Goku came
2:35up with on his own?
2:38Exactly. Despite this, Goku is not
2:40considered a copycat fighter because he
2:43doesn't stop at just copying techniques.
2:46He makes them his own. To him, a
2:48technique is a challenge in and of
2:50itself. Something to learn, improve, and
2:52take to new heights. Oh, the dragon
2:54fist. What? He came up with the dragon
2:57fist. It's like the same idea as the
2:59kamihame ha. Put all your energy in one
3:01place and all that, BUT IT'S A BIG
3:02FREAKING PUNCH AND A DRAGON. It's not
3:05really canon. Ah, whatever. It's cool as
3:08hell. Also, there was that one time he
3:11became a really big blue see-through
3:12person. Nobody else did that, I'm pretty
3:14sure. Okay, I was being facitious, but
3:17my point is Goku often takes the concept
3:19of a technique and turns it into
3:21something else. Either through his own
3:23training or on the fly to counter an
3:25opponent. Goku is always growing, always
3:27evolving. One-handed Kamehameha check.
3:30BENDING IT MIDAIR, CHECK. SHOOTING TWO
3:32AT ONCE, DOUBLE CHECK. FIRING IT FROM
3:34HIS FEET TO BECOME a living rocket, oh
3:36yeah, that's a check. This desire to
3:38always evolve drives everything that
3:40Goku does. Even when he won the World
3:42Martial Arts Tournament, officially
3:44becoming the greatest martial artists in
3:46the world, he wasn't done finding foes
3:48stronger than him. You know WHAT THAT
3:50MEANS? TIME FOR ALIENS. He's a Saiyan, a
3:53warrior people who are basically born
3:54and bred to fight forever. A Saiyan's
3:56body even stops aging for most of their
3:59life just so they can get as many licks
4:00in as possible before they start bruning
4:02up. But Goku didn't start with much of
4:04an advantage. Despite being born on a
4:06planet with 10 times Earth's gravity, he
4:08only had a power level of two. right in
4:11line with normal humans who are in the
4:13low single digits. Even this random
4:15farmer with no known fighting experience
4:16had a power level of five, potentially
4:19including the shotgun. So Goku was a
4:21lowclass Saiyan, basically cannon foder.
4:24But with enough determination, even a
4:26popper, can take down a prince of all
4:28Saiyans. Though to be fair, Goku's
4:30Saiyan heritage does give him one
4:32significant boost. When humans [music]
4:33exercise, we tear our muscles
4:35microscopically in a way that they might
4:37feel stronger. But sayans take this to a
4:39whole new level cuz every TIME THEY
4:41ALMOST DIE, THEY GET A HUGE POWER boost
4:44and those gains are permanent. The
4:46implications of this ability to break
4:47the limits of possibility are
4:49mindblowing, but they sort of stopped
4:51talking about it after the Frieza arc,
4:53so yes, we will too. Goku has a bunch of
4:55other ways to boost his power, like the
4:57Kaio-Ken, which can MULTIPLY HIS KEY 10,
5:0020, EVEN 100 times, all in the blink of
5:02an eye. Never mind how if he overdo it,
5:05he dies. Hey, hasn't happened yet. There
5:07is seemingly no limit how much physical
5:09suffering Goku is willing to endure if
5:11it means victory. Like when all hope
5:14seemed lost against Frieza and he tapped
5:16into his ancestral [music] rage,
5:18becoming the ultimate warrior of legend,
5:21the Super Saiyan. Oh, chills. Super
5:24Saiyan isn't just one transformation,
5:25but several, stacking to amplify his
5:28power many, many times over and
5:29culminating in the newly canonized SUPER
5:32SAIYAN 4, complete with RED FUR AND
5:35EYESHADOW. NATURALLY, the next step in
5:37Power Creep was challenging a literal
5:38god of destruction by achieving the
5:40level of Super Saiyan God. Funny, he
5:43actually turned down being a god back in
5:45the day cuz he thought it'd be boring.
5:47Well, with his new GOD KEY, GOKU CAN
5:49IMMOBILIZE FOES, heal himself,
5:51annihilate someone from existence with a
5:53Kai, or even shatter his whole universe.
5:57It's even better than it sounds. In
5:58Dragon Ball, Goku lives in universe 7, a
6:01massive cosmic superructure over a
6:03thousand times larger than our own
6:05universe. Goku almost destroyed that the
6:08very first time he went god mode. He's
6:10strong enough to break out of Hit's time
6:12[music] skip, fast enough to block
6:14attacks from infinite Zamasu, skilled
6:16enough to upgrade his red god form to
6:18punk blue, and powerful enough to match
6:20Jiren when they fought in the null
6:22realm. Basically, A DIMENSION SO BIG AND
6:24empty that anyone in it can go all out
6:26without wrecking it. AND JIREN SHOOK THE
6:29WHOLE DAMN PLACE JUST BY POWERING UP.
6:31AND THAT IS when Goku reached his peak
6:33[music] potential. The final stage of
6:36everything he'd been working towards,
6:38even since he was a little kid. Roshi
6:40and King Kai trained Goku to perfect not
6:42just his body, but his spirit. Corin
6:44trained him to predict his opponent,
6:46perfecting his movement. Kami trained
6:48him to steal his mind, to move like
6:50lightning. Goku himself perfected Super
6:52Saiyan by stealing the form's fury. And
6:55finally, [music] Whis trained him to use
6:56that perfected stillness to react
6:58subconsciously to any attack [music]
7:00thrown his way. This is Ultra Instinct.
7:04Ultra Instinct is in many ways [music]
7:06the pinnacle of Goku's fighting style.
7:08It's like he took Bruce Lee's be like
7:11water idea and supercharged it. Nobody
7:13can touch the guy. But Ultra Instinct
7:15has even more meaning to Goku. His
7:17greatest power honed through decades of
7:19experience and struggle is that he'll
7:21always find a way to break his own
7:23[music] limits. And the beauty of Ultra
7:25Instinct is that while it is its own
7:26form, Goku is learning to apply it to
7:29every other form he has. The
7:31possibilities of what he can achieve are
7:33endless. With Ultra Instinct mastered,

8:27LOOK UP IN THE SKY. IT'S A BIRD. IT'S A
8:30PLANE. NO, it's Cape Baldi. Nobody's
8:34favorite superhero. Well, that's not
8:36entirely true. While his bald dome and
8:38janitorial outfit might not inspire the
8:40masses, those who know Saitama know he's
8:44the one punch man. As is the man who can
8:46beat ANY OPPONENT IN ONE PUNCH. YEAH,
8:50OBVIOUSLY. OKAY. OKAY. But did you know
8:52this GUY CAN GET SO strong so fast that
8:55it's impossible for anyone to ever beat
8:58him? LIKE ACTUALLY IMPOSSIBLE. LET'S NOT
9:01get ahead of ourselves. Stuck in the
9:03cycle of a Japanese salary man, Saitama
9:05[music] rediscovered his passion for
9:07life after standing up to one of the
9:09many monsters plaguing his city. So he
9:11devoted his life to getting stronger
9:13with a brutal training regimen of 100
9:16push-ups, 100 sit-ups, 100 squats, AND
9:2010 KM OF RUNNING. That's not too brutal.
9:23It's basically standard for military
9:24every single day. Ah, yeah, that's not
9:28healthy. He ignored the pain from his
9:30screaming muscles for so long that his
9:32hair fell out. But it paid off when HE
9:34BECAME THE STRONGEST MAN ALIVE. GROWING
9:37SO STRONG, so fast that he could beat
9:39himself from the day before. It's like a
9:42shownen power fantasy come to life.
9:44Except the rest of the world could not
9:47keep up. And now Saitama can beat every
9:50living thing with just one punch. A
9:53power fantasy turned existential
9:55nightmare. Because with nothing strong
9:57enough to give Saitama a challenge,
9:59there's nothing pushing him to keep
10:00getting stronger. His hero's journey was
10:02complete before it had even begun. In
10:05his quest for a quest, Saitama has
10:08learned to create shock waves with his
10:09punches. Punch in several directions at
10:12once and survive the icy, cold, heavily
10:14irradiated vacuum of space simply by
10:17holding his breath. Yeah, when the alien
10:19warlord Boros kicked Saitama ALL THE WAY
10:21TO THE FREAKING MOON, NO PROBLEM. He
10:24just popped back in a couple seconds,
10:26just in time to punch away Boros's
10:28planet busting energy wave [music] with
10:29his greatest technique, the serious
10:32punch, which is a punch, but serious. I
10:35bet you're wondering, what special
10:37TECHNIQUES DID SAITAMA LEARN during his
10:39epic training montage? What crazy super
10:42moves does this MAGNIFICENT BOLD WONDER
10:44HAVE up his yellow sleeves? NOTHING.
10:47HE'S GOT NOTHING. NO SUPERPOWERS AT ALL.
10:50HE'S JUST like a guy. really really
10:52strong guy. Don't sell him short. His
10:55serious side hops are so fast they
10:57create after images. He used his serious
10:59water gun to shoot lava while bathing in
11:01it in the nude. And with his serious
11:03table flip, he can rip the moon apart
11:06with his bare hands. Saitama can outra
11:08his own reflection in a mirror. THAT'S
11:10LIKE THE TEXTBOOK DEFINITION OF MOVING
11:12FASTER than light. And that was WHEN HE
11:14WAS STILL BALDING. GOOD GOD. JUST THINK
11:17ABOUT HOW MUCH FASTER AND stronger he is
11:19without all that hair WEIGHING HIM DOWN.
11:21I bet he's strong enough to bench press
11:23Blake holes. Oh, wait. He is. Despite no
11:26longer finding any joy whatsoever in
11:27hero work and being too stubborn to, oh,
11:30I don't know, find a hobby, Saitama
11:32still clocks in day after day to save
11:34lives, because the world will always
11:36need a hero. And it'll always need a
11:39villain. Enter Guro, a martial arts
11:42master dedicated to becoming the
11:44strongest and wreaking true villain
11:46across the world. After being empowered
11:48by God, YEP, CAPITAL G, GOD, G MURDERED
11:52SAITAMA'S FRIEND, GENOS, right in front
11:54of him. Holy [ __ ] Emphasis on the holy.
11:57And that's when things got serious. For
12:00the first time in years, Saitama had met
12:03his match. Someone who could finally
12:06push him to get stronger. Strong enough
12:08to fight across the solar system, TO
12:10BLAST APART THE PLANET of Jupiter with
12:13just a sneeze. to completely obliterate
12:15thousands of stars at trillions of times
12:17the speed OF LIGHT, LEAVING JUST AN
12:19EMPTY VOID IN OUTER SPACE.
12:22CHILLS. In just a matter of seconds,
12:24Saitama's power exploded to unforeseen
12:27heights, easily eclipsing Go's literal
12:29god power in mere moments. This is
12:32Saitama's true superpower. There is
12:34absolutely no limit to how strong he can
12:37ever get. Turns out, although squats
12:39weren't just for sculpting the perfect
12:41ass, his inhuman dedication to pain and
12:44training broke his limiter. Essentially,
12:46every living thing has a biological
12:48limit to [music] how strong it can
12:50become. And Saitama somehow removed
12:52that. So, in truth, it isn't just that
12:55Saitama is incredibly strong. It's that
12:57he broke the concept of being strong. If
13:00you're a painter, engineer, architect,
13:03whatever, you spend years honing your
13:04skills to grow your talents. Saitama
13:07basically learned how to skip all that
13:08and do it instantly. Not just during his
13:10training arc, he can do this heck
13:12whenever. This cannot be overstated. No
13:15matter how strong you are, no matter
13:17your power level, it's only a matter of
13:19time before Saitama surpasses you.
13:22Saitama is effectively as strong as he
13:25wants to be. But all that was cold
13:27comfort [music] to Saitama, who realized
13:29too late that achieving his dreams
13:31didn't matter without friends to share
13:33him with. except he's as strong as
13:35[music] he wants to be. He can copy any
13:37martial art he's capable of, including
13:39Go's incredibly advanced physics bending
13:41style that [music] manipulates time. So,
13:44he did that. He punched so hard he went
13:47back in time and stopped Go before he
13:49killed Genos. Literally beating him in
13:52zero punches OR NON PUNCH. HE PUNCHED
13:56TIME. Don't worry, WHIZ. TIME TRAVEL'S A
13:58[ __ ] SINCE IT [music] changed history,
14:00he doesn't remember doing any of this.
14:02And that isn't the only retcon [music]
14:04he had to deal with. Oh yeah, this kind
14:06OF THING HAPPENS ALL THE TIME IN ONE
14:07PUNCH MAN, but on like a meta level. The
14:10manga author has rewritten entire
14:12chapters and story arcs, redconning
14:14previous ones as if they NEVER HAPPENED
14:16WHILE STILL IN THE MIDDLE OF TELLING
14:18THEM. I DON'T KNOW HOW he gets away with
14:20it, but it's infuriating. So to clarify,
14:22we have been taking into account all of
14:24these chapters, [music] even the recon
14:26ones, as possible timelines Saitama
14:28could have reasonably experienced, such
14:30as the time he [music] caught a sword
14:32that cut through space from a higher
14:33dimension. A feat which no amount of
14:35scientific analysis could possibly
14:37explain. Not the only time he's done
14:39crazy space-time [ __ ] like when HE
14:41KICKED AN INTANGIBLE PORTAL THROUGH THE
14:44air or punched his way OUT OF THE
14:46PHYSICAL UNIVERSE. PERHAPS the redcons
14:49are just the author's way of saying,
14:50"Hey, Saitama is too strong for his own
14:52manga. This man, this caped Baldi, is
14:56nothing short of an impossibility."
14:58MAYBE ONE DAY SAITAMA WILL OUTGROW HIS
15:00BOREDOM AND find something, anything

19:52Despite how heavy these two hit, Goku
19:54seems to have an enormous advantage at
19:56first glance. But as the fight WENT ON,
19:58SAIT THOMAS BROKEN limiter meant he
20:00could close the gap super quick. Maybe
20:02even fast enough to get the dub, which
20:04means this wasn't really a battle of
20:06strength, but of time. It was a race to
20:09the finish. We'll break this down into
20:10three categories. Starting with the
20:12difference in power. Saitama's greatest
20:14measurable feat eradicated thousands of
20:16stars. Estimating the distance by
20:18comparing Earth here to the nearest
20:20stars in the solar system, we can
20:21determine the area of the resulting void
20:23was nearly a trillion square lightyears
20:25away. That amount of power is equivalent
20:27to over 100 sexextillion supernovas.
20:31Awesome. But even at the start of DRAGON
20:32BALL SUPER, GOKU'S CLASH with Beerus
20:35nearly wiped out Universe 7, a super
20:37universe over a thousand times bigger
20:39than ours. That's worth over 25
20:41quintessicilian supernovas, which
20:43[music] means Saitama would have to
20:44increase his power by 25 octillion times
20:48just to match Goku. So Goku obviously
20:50had a head start, but Saitama's whole
20:52thing is that he's not just strong, he
20:55can become as strong as he wants cuz he
20:57has no limit. We need to compare their
20:59ability to grow and evolve past their
21:01limits. While Goku started with a power
21:04advantage, the more he engaged with
21:05Saitama, the quicker he lost that
21:07advantage. Pushed by Goku's challenge,
21:09SAITAMA'S BROKEN LIMITER MEANT HE GOT
21:11way stronger super quickly. So we have
21:14to ask, could he catch up to Goku LIKE
21:17WHEN HE FOUGHT GO? To answer this
21:19question, we use the in universe line
21:21chart of Saitama [music]
21:22and Go's relative strength to calculate
21:24Saitama's rate of growth. Based on the
21:26shape of the curve, his increases appear
21:28to be exponential, meaning his power
21:30grows proportionally to his previous

22:14typically that amounts to reaching a
22:16specific point of power. Saitama's
22:18everinccreasing potential is certainly
22:20on another level, which means Goku had
22:22to rely on his techniques. Goku was more
22:24mobile with his flight, could fight at
22:26range with his key, could totally wipe
22:28Baldi with a Kai, AND HAS SPENT WAY MORE
22:30TIME ADAPTING TO weird new opponents.
22:32Saitama, on the other hand, has little
22:34to no martial arts skill to match Goku's
22:36vast depth of knowledge and [music]
22:37experience. But none of that would
22:39matter when Saitama inevitably got too
22:41strong for him. This is where Goku's
22:43[music] most important techniques come
22:45into play. His transformations.
22:47Saitama's potential might be limitless,
22:49but it still takes [music] time.
22:50Transformations and power boosts such as
22:52Super Saiyan and Kaio-Ken not only let
22:54Goku control the degree to which he gets
22:56stronger, they also spike his power
22:58[music] instantaneously, effectively
23:00resetting the battle dynamic even after
23:02Saitama closes the gap. And Goku could
23:04repeat that a bunch of times with all
23:06the hair colors he's collected over the
23:08years. Goku takes the final edge in
23:10techniques. But there's one more
23:12question. Is Saitama a gag character
23:15that can never lose? If you assume he
23:17runs on Bug's bunny logic, maybe. But
23:20it's more like his power is a gag
23:21because he doesn't fit the world around
23:23him until he does. Saitama is certainly
23:26a satire of shownen heroes, but his
23:28fight with Go is clear evidence that his
23:30power rises through effort, not gags. In
23:33fact, that's kind of a major point of
