  4. 0:19somebody on my YouTube channel asked if
  5. 0:21I would do a tear down of the ghd Helios
  6. 0:25hair dryer and uh I do happen to have
  7. 0:29one uh in a box which is brand new and
  8. 0:33uh so yes here we go um first of all we
  9. 0:38have the quite thick instruction manual
  10. 0:42in multiple
  11. 0:44languages it comes with a single
  12. 0:49nozzle uh that nozzle
  13. 0:53is a 70 I can't remember let's just get
  14. 0:56the calipers out so it comes with a 7
  15. 1:00mil
  16. 1:02nozzle we
  17. 1:05have hair dryer
  18. 1:13itself this is a white one with you know
  19. 1:18what I can't tell what color that
  20. 1:20is kind of looks Chrome but it looks
  21. 1:23like it might have a tint of color in it
  22. 1:25and I don't see all colors perfectly
  23. 1:28being slightly color Vision
  24. 1:31defective uh this is a
  25. 1:33simple push fit on there and this is a
  26. 1:38metal piece here that it goes on to so
  27. 1:41uh there's really no reason why you
  28. 1:43should ever damage this although I had
  29. 1:46did have a customer contact me saying
  30. 1:47that they couldn't get this on to the
  31. 1:50end and uh they apparently they had not
  32. 1:53damag this so I never really got to the
  33. 1:56bottom of it because they didn't send in
  34. 1:58the hair dryer for a pair maybe they
  35. 2:01dropped it really hard and damaged the
  36. 2:03end but you would think they could only
  37. 2:05knock it inwards and this would still go
  38. 2:07on anyway whatever so we have the
  39. 2:12usual two-speed switch two heat settings
  40. 2:17uh obviously can be used in any
  41. 2:20combination and we have a CO shot button
  42. 2:23so when you squeeze that that cuts out
  43. 2:25all of the Heat and I do do tell
  44. 2:29customers after a repair but it is a
  45. 2:32very good idea when you're finishing
  46. 2:34using these um not just to turn the P
  47. 2:37let say you've got it on the second heat
  48. 2:40setting doesn't matter what speed it's
  49. 2:42on whatever it's really really hot do
  50. 2:45not just turn these off with the heat
  51. 2:47left on and turn the fan off that will
  52. 2:50leave an awful lot of residue heat
  53. 2:52inside uh the hair dryer and it's my
  54. 2:55belief that that can cause a premature
  55. 2:58failure of the thermal F that is fitted
  56. 3:01inside these I think it's a much better
  57. 3:03idea to leave the fan on turn the heat
  58. 3:06off and just wait until these blow out
  59. 3:09cool air and you can feel it's cool and
  60. 3:12at that point turn them off that's how I
  61. 3:15believe you're going to get the longest
  62. 3:18use out of this particular model in fact
  63. 3:21any hair dryer I would think the same
  64. 3:24goes but that's just my uh opinion the
  65. 3:27most important thing on all of these
  66. 3:29hair drers the ghd air and the uh the
  67. 3:33Helios so the air is the air 1.0 this
  68. 3:36Helios is the
  69. 3:38H1 they all have their little labels uh
  70. 3:42in fact this isn't a label it's just
  71. 3:44printed onto the body but they're all
  72. 3:46marked we have single screw under this
  73. 3:50cover here and then under these this
  74. 3:54trim here there are another further two
  75. 3:57screws and then we have a cap and screw
  76. 4:00that goes through this silicon rubber
  77. 4:03hanging uh bit here um yes as I was
  78. 4:08saying it is crucial to keep this cover
  79. 4:13uh clean to remove it just twist
  80. 4:16anticlockwise any sort of 10 15° and
  81. 4:19lift it away the same goes for the air
  82. 4:221.0 although the twisting is a little
  83. 4:25bit further and then you will find that
  84. 4:27the Air1 mesh will just fall out
  85. 4:30uh in this case it has been twisted and
  86. 4:34it's held in place by three plastic tabs
  87. 4:39again don't know whether you're going to
  88. 4:40be able to see them you can take it out
  89. 4:41if you need to you just pivot spin this
  90. 4:44around in this case it's pretty tight
  91. 4:47yeah but you can normally just spin this
  92. 4:50here we go spin it
  93. 4:53around and line up the tab with the
  94. 4:57little slots and it will lift out is
  95. 5:00useful if it gets completely blocked you
  96. 5:03might want to then put it onto something
  97. 5:07and just brush it out with a toothbrush
  98. 5:10if it's really really clogged what I do
  99. 5:12is use some isopropyl alcohol and uh let
  100. 5:17it soften up the dirt and then just
  101. 5:19brush it all out hold it up to the light
  102. 5:22you'll be able to see if any of those
  103. 5:24tiny holes are blocked if they are just
  104. 5:27to get the
  105. 5:28toothbrush down it into the holes and
  106. 5:31then brush away hold it up to the light
  107. 5:33again and you will see that you know
  108. 5:35eventually you will clean all of those
  109. 5:38holes
  110. 5:39up clean them out even let's get that
  111. 5:43back in
  112. 5:47there there we go I think close there we
  113. 5:51go and then just twist it around a
  114. 5:54little bit so it is locked in place and
  115. 5:56won't fall out at that point you can you
  116. 5:59put it on the back just spin it around
  117. 6:02and eventually you'll find exactly where
  118. 6:05it needs to be CU it will just go in you
  119. 6:07see the way that just went in there and
  120. 6:10then click and that is done okay
  121. 6:15absolutely critical got to keep that
  122. 6:16clean reduced air flow means hotter
  123. 6:19temperatures CU there's less air being
  124. 6:22blown out just going to remove this for
  125. 6:24the
  126. 6:26second now getting into these uh with
  127. 6:29without damaging anything is virtually
  128. 6:32impossible I don't think I've ever
  129. 6:34achieved it and the reason is um ghd
  130. 6:37don't make anything to be repairable the
  131. 6:39hair dryers the hair straighteners all
  132. 6:41of their products they don't sell spares
  133. 6:43they don't complete repairs it's down to
  134. 6:45companies like ours uh to repair their
  135. 6:49products wherever we can but that means
  136. 6:52these are not designed to ever be opened
  137. 6:55by anybody so this plastic plug whil it
  138. 6:58looks all very neat and this is finished
  139. 7:00very nicely now it was not designed to
  140. 7:02be taken out again okay now I'm not
  141. 7:06going to be able to show this very
  142. 7:08easily but anyway what I do is I get a
  143. 7:10razor blade and I will get a very thin
  144. 7:15blade screwdriver the first thing I will
  145. 7:18do is tuck the razor blade into the
  146. 7:23end and uh would you believe it this one
  147. 7:27is going to come out just fine normally
  148. 7:29I will prize it up a little bit with the
  149. 7:32razor blade like that and then the flat
  150. 7:35screwdriver I will tuck inside next to
  151. 7:38it and we'll just give it a little
  152. 7:40wiggle around and eventually you will
  153. 7:43free up this little plug enough to get
  154. 7:49it out there like that that is highly
  155. 7:52unusual it could be that I've taken this
  156. 7:54pair apart in the past I don't remember
  157. 7:56that but maybe I did us usually you will
  158. 8:00always leave a little Mark on here where
  159. 8:03you've prized it up and the plastic is
  160. 8:05bent uh don't worry too much it is
  161. 8:07purely cosmetic once you've put that
  162. 8:09plug back in uh then you can get a
  163. 8:13rounded
  164. 8:14screwdriver and with some Force just
  165. 8:17roll over the damaged plastic once it's
  166. 8:20back in there so you'll get it and you
  167. 8:23will roll that screwdriver up just
  168. 8:25flatten that plastic
  169. 8:28off now the next
  170. 8:30thing is I always make sure that these
  171. 8:35buttons and screw are tight so with a
  172. 8:38bit of pressure on that back button
  173. 8:40there I bend the silicon and I will test
  174. 8:45that screw and just screw it back in
  175. 8:48until it's tight once you uh get this
  176. 8:52lost you're in trouble that will
  177. 8:54eventually come out all right now on to
  178. 8:57the next tricky part part this trim is
  179. 9:01in two parts we have a switch side half
  180. 9:05and then we have
  181. 9:07a other half on here what you've got to
  182. 9:10do is just gently Bend
  183. 9:12this cord back and with again that flat
  184. 9:17blade small flat blade we're just going
  185. 9:19to tuck it in there and we're going to
  186. 9:22try and lift
  187. 9:23off really
  188. 9:25carefully without scratching
  189. 9:28anything the
  190. 9:31half there now I've just managed to
  191. 9:34release that a little bit get the
  192. 9:36screwdriver just gently run it
  193. 9:39around and
  194. 9:41then once you've done
  195. 9:43that you should be able to get into
  196. 9:48here and lift it off
  197. 9:52completely can be a bit
  198. 9:56stiff I've never broken one but this
  199. 9:58feels a bit stiff um to get the other
  200. 10:00half off which I'm going to do first
  201. 10:02actually just tuck that screwdriver into
  202. 10:05that slot there and press the other one
  203. 10:08up slightly there we go you can see
  204. 10:10that's come off this time just run the
  205. 10:12screwdriver
  206. 10:14around and that one will come off and
  207. 10:17that's going to give us a little bit
  208. 10:18more room to get this other side off
  209. 10:21it's just a bit stiff that one for some
  210. 10:25reason be very careful with those okay
  211. 10:28they're nice cosme metic pieces uh you
  212. 10:31can snap them I've never done it but I
  213. 10:33have seen other people customers snap
  214. 10:37them trying to get into these now
  215. 10:41the first screw at the uh into here is
  216. 10:48an unusual type you'll need a
  217. 10:50security bit set you see that
  218. 10:54one can be a little fiddly a little
  219. 10:57tight but you just need to line the
  220. 10:59security bit
  221. 11:01up and
  222. 11:03then H Twist and Turn normal
  223. 11:08anticlockwise normal screw thread Etc
  224. 11:12it's just got that security
  225. 11:16bit you can tap it a few times and it
  226. 11:19should fall out now this is where a lot
  227. 11:22of these are
  228. 11:25broken the screws down at this uh cable
  229. 11:28end are very small screws they go into
  230. 11:32tiny little bits of plastic and I often
  231. 11:34see uh all of this area broken and that
  232. 11:37is because of uh plastic fatigue it can
  233. 11:41be caused by hair products being sprayed
  234. 11:44around and it eventually affects the
  235. 11:46plastic and it makes it quite brittle
  236. 11:48and this whole area here I often see
  237. 11:53broken and quite often I have to super
  238. 11:56glue these parts back together and uh
  239. 12:00and then put the trim back over it's
  240. 12:02perfectly okay uh but just bear that in
  241. 12:05mind and be careful support the back of
  242. 12:10the hair dryer where these screws are
  243. 12:14and with the right size screw drive just
  244. 12:16go in and undo these tiny
  245. 12:21screws got to support the back you don't
  246. 12:24want any of this flexing then onto the
  247. 12:26other one supporting it all with my
  248. 12:28thumb
  249. 12:33spin over that's falling out anyway
  250. 12:36right at this stage this is on here
  251. 12:39pretty tightly and what I do normally is
  252. 12:42just bend it up a little bit from the
  253. 12:45back here there you go see you can see
  254. 12:47that that tends to free up a little bit
  255. 12:50of plastic here and it will now if
  256. 12:53you're lucky yeah it'll just come away
  257. 12:57like that but again be gentle don't be
  258. 13:01forcing anything uh if it doesn't appear
  259. 13:03to be coming off make sure you've undone
  260. 13:06this screw I've made that mistake myself
  261. 13:08I've started off at this end completely
  262. 13:10forgotten that I've left that screw in
  263. 13:12and I've got you know up here before I
  264. 13:14realize that something is not quite
  265. 13:17right so this is uh the inside of the
  266. 13:22Helios it's a pretty straightforward and
  267. 13:25simple arrangement we have a very thick
  268. 13:28round cable now if we saw a round cable
  269. 13:31on ghd H straighteners alarms would be
  270. 13:34going off because they do not come with
  271. 13:36a round cable they never have done only
  272. 13:39the fake ghd hair straighteners have had
  273. 13:42round cables fitted to them but
  274. 13:44obviously on the hair dryers these have
  275. 13:4613 amp fuses we have uh 2,200 watts of
  276. 13:52uh Power potentially being used
  277. 13:54depending on the settings a nice big
  278. 13:56chunky cable is required
  279. 14:00um
  280. 14:01this cable relief strain relief is
  281. 14:05molded onto this cable so if the cable
  282. 14:08is damaged um this whole lot has to be
  283. 14:11replaced with a used genuine cable I
  284. 14:16have experimented with cutting uh The
  285. 14:20Strain relief out and removing the cable
  286. 14:24um and then Super Glu in the whole
  287. 14:25assembly back together again it's
  288. 14:28slightly messy op unfortunately I've got
  289. 14:30enough spares that I've never had to do
  290. 14:31it but if we ever run out of spares it
  291. 14:34is possible to just split that open and
  292. 14:38gently par out all of the old cable fit
  293. 14:42a new one and then seal it all back up
  294. 14:44again now the cable is held in place
  295. 14:47here by pretty much the same Arrangement
  296. 14:50you would get in a UK plug it's just two
  297. 14:55screws see how that flexes you got to be
  298. 14:58real careful with these uh whole the
  299. 15:02plastic is quite flimsy make sure you're
  300. 15:04supporting
  301. 15:06it pretty much like a UK plug grip
  302. 15:11Arrangement then we have the uh little
  303. 15:15circuit board we have two switches we
  304. 15:18often see wear of the switches The
  305. 15:22Rocker switches themselves wear uh the
  306. 15:25contacts inside wear uh we have replace
  307. 15:29M parts for all of this so we'll always
  308. 15:32be able to repair uh these switches for
  309. 15:35you on the back again a lot of different
  310. 15:38wires soldered in here going to various
  311. 15:43points that is the cor shot switch and
  312. 15:48this one is uh under tension when you
  313. 15:51press it and then it will release these
  314. 15:54do fail uh we have Replacements of those
  315. 15:58the cor shop button itself can be pushed
  316. 16:00out so watch what you're doing if you do
  317. 16:02open these that will fall out and be
  318. 16:04lost on the floor very quickly uh if
  319. 16:07you're not careful now compared to the
  320. 16:10Air1 this is a completely different uh
  321. 16:13motor this has a control PCB fan uh is
  322. 16:18same design but the shaft is a different
  323. 16:21size so if you're repairing one of these
  324. 16:24and you need the fan for it uh then make
  325. 16:27sure you order the correct fan for the
  326. 16:29Helios because the diameter of the shaft
  327. 16:31is different uh these do get broken uh
  328. 16:35if the hair dryer is dropped you can
  329. 16:37easily snap a blade uh the usual way to
  330. 16:40notice that is when you turn them on
  331. 16:43there will be this very very high
  332. 16:44frequency
  333. 16:45vibration um if you're unlucky and
  334. 16:48you've broken a few they really will be
  335. 16:50shaking around um we have in the past
  336. 16:54got over that by snapping out the
  337. 16:57opposite blade and that will even things
  338. 16:59out a bit but of course you're then
  339. 17:01missing two blades for air flow which
  340. 17:04causes you know can cause overheating
  341. 17:06and then failure of the thermal
  342. 17:08fuses sorry thermal
  343. 17:10fuse um so yeah just for the replacement
  344. 17:13we have these
  345. 17:17available undo this with a spanner or in
  346. 17:20my case I use the pliers just
  347. 17:26grip just grip the
  348. 17:30fan and twist once that is loose you can
  349. 17:35just lift this off now on older ones you
  350. 17:38can find this quite hard to remove there
  351. 17:41will be a buildup of hair possibly on
  352. 17:43this shaft uh and that can make this
  353. 17:46quite hard to uh get off so we'll put
  354. 17:50the fan to one side now at this stage
  355. 17:52this motor uh will just lift out it is
  356. 17:56on rubber mounts the Air1 motor was
  357. 17:59screwed in place and uh but this one
  358. 18:03will just lift
  359. 18:05away and we'll lift out the heating
  360. 18:10element assembly as well now in there we
  361. 18:14have the
  362. 18:17direction I don't know what you call
  363. 18:19that a guide that's got to go in a
  364. 18:22particular way
  365. 18:24the oops if I can show you they are
  366. 18:27horizontal
  367. 18:29and inside also we have a
  368. 18:31mic uh sort of paper it's like a
  369. 18:34cardboard it's a very high temperature
  370. 18:37resistant mic material can get a bit
  371. 18:40Fragile with age and a bit crumbly
  372. 18:43certainly on the older air ones we do
  373. 18:45see them crumbling a little bit um but
  374. 18:48on these air sorry helios's uh they are
  375. 18:52pretty good so that's that now if we go
  376. 18:57and quickly look at
  377. 18:59the
  378. 19:01element there are two uh separate coils
  379. 19:05corresponding to the two positions on
  380. 19:08the switch um there is a
  381. 19:13thermal let me see
  382. 19:16it okay so just in here we have a
  383. 19:19thermal actually I can't see what you're
  384. 19:21looking at from okay just in there is a
  385. 19:24thermal
  386. 19:25cutout uh and just on the other side
  387. 19:28here is a thermal fuse it is critical if
  388. 19:32you are repairing these to fit the
  389. 19:35correct thermal fuse it is really hard
  390. 19:38to get these out in fact I have repaired
  391. 19:40these before uh because I am looking at
  392. 19:44a replaced thermal
  393. 19:46fuse uh so yes I have in fact repaired
  394. 19:50these in the past I thought they were
  395. 19:51brand new I mean they are they're unused
  396. 19:53but for some reason the thermal fuse had
  397. 19:56been uh tripped on this pair uh I have
  398. 20:00replaced it um broken wires can be an
  399. 20:04issue um it's very rare to see any
  400. 20:08element wire damage on this model the
  401. 20:11older Air1 had a coiled um almost coiled
  402. 20:16spring like look and that was wrapped
  403. 20:19around this similar mic material and
  404. 20:22they definitely would break quite
  405. 20:24frequently um once they've broken uh all
  406. 20:28sorts of damage damage can
  407. 20:30occur uh broken fan blades if they do
  408. 20:34break and they can come off and they
  409. 20:36will literally fall down into the
  410. 20:39element and if you notice that vibration
  411. 20:41and then ignore it you'll find that the
  412. 20:44plastic fan blade will sit there and it
  413. 20:46will be burning against the element uh
  414. 20:49wires here and you can get them so badly
  415. 20:52burnt that they melt and they are
  416. 20:55embedded into the corals of wire and it
  417. 20:58can be difficult uh almost impossible to
  418. 21:02get them off of the uh wire element
  419. 21:05wires um we generally manage and we'll
  420. 21:08use a wire brush to get as much plastic
  421. 21:11off as possible but there may be some
  422. 21:13residue smell residual smell of burning
  423. 21:17over the next few weeks as the uh final
  424. 21:19bits of plastic just burn themselves
  425. 21:22away now onto the motor now generally
  426. 21:27this is a very
  427. 21:29uh nice uh reliable motor but we'll
  428. 21:32cover a couple bits in a minute uh do
  429. 21:34note if I turn that on now at the mains
  430. 21:37uh it knows that that fan is not fitted
  431. 21:41so this will just pulse uh and if I put
  432. 21:44it onto speed to it will pulse even
  433. 21:46quicker um so if if the fan is not
  434. 21:50fitted this is not going to work so I
  435. 21:53don't expect to be able to plug this in
  436. 21:55and just in fact I might even
  437. 21:57demonstrate that for
  438. 21:59whatever you do with any of these make
  439. 22:02sure uh you know what you're doing if
  440. 22:04you're plugging anything live like this
  441. 22:06and make sure the heat is always off
  442. 22:08especially on the Air1 if you turn the
  443. 22:10Air1 on uh and it's in the open like
  444. 22:13this even if the fan was on there
  445. 22:15clearly this element is going to get so
  446. 22:17hot immediately and you are going to do
  447. 22:19damage so fan is off sorry this heat is
  448. 22:23off we got to make sure that the fan is
  449. 22:25also off everything's clear we'll plug
  450. 22:27it in hold
  451. 22:31it that's interesting this one didn't
  452. 22:35pulse that's where you should do it's
  453. 22:37just pulsing because it can sense
  454. 22:39there's no
  455. 22:42weight very surprised that that is
  456. 22:44running I've never had that
  457. 22:46before usually it does
  458. 22:49that so that was interesting for me
  459. 22:53actually now there is a problem with the
  460. 22:58these motors whilst they are generally
  461. 23:01reliable every so often we come across
  462. 23:04one that has blown itself to
  463. 23:07Pieces um there are three wire
  464. 23:10connections to it and uh you you will
  465. 23:14notice if it has failed um a lot of
  466. 23:17burnt components let me just show you
  467. 23:20the board you'll see a lot of burnt
  468. 23:23components and if you turn it over and
  469. 23:25you look inside here you'll see even
  470. 23:27more burnt components and if you
  471. 23:30actually take these screws out and start
  472. 23:33lifting all the covers off there's three
  473. 23:36screws this side and all of this will
  474. 23:38come away uh leaving just the stator and
  475. 23:42the what I would call the Armature but
  476. 23:44it's it's not that type of motor um that
  477. 23:47is the bit that you can see just inside
  478. 23:51uh so there'll be loads of damaged
  479. 23:53components and uh even if we could work
  480. 23:56out the exact reason why it is failed uh
  481. 23:59that it's not going to be possible to
  482. 24:00repair it even if you knew what all the
  483. 24:02damage components were and there's going
  484. 24:04to be you know 12 15 damage components
  485. 24:06at least uh on this the damage is
  486. 24:09usually
  487. 24:10extensive uh it goes up in such a bang
  488. 24:13that the uh windings here uh will be
  489. 24:19burnt uh this is not damaged to the
  490. 24:22coils themselves it's uh damaged from
  491. 24:25the exploding components but it looks
  492. 24:27like it's got hot enough and there's
  493. 24:29enough damage there where I absolutely
  494. 24:31could not trust uh that coil of wires
  495. 24:35now uh to be undamaged uh so I would
  496. 24:39never attempt to repair one of these for
  497. 24:42all of the components I did read
  498. 24:44somewhere online somebody was thinking
  499. 24:47that they were going to be able to
  500. 24:48repair these once they sourced various
  501. 24:51parts and and stuff like that but
  502. 24:54everyone I've seen the damage is huge uh
  503. 24:57and no way you could use that absolutely
  504. 25:00no way so if you see that um then these
  505. 25:05are pretty much scrap um I would say
  506. 25:08that up until a few well maybe a month
  507. 25:11ago I would repair these for our fixed
  508. 25:13fee of 3999 and if the motor had failed
  509. 25:16it was uncommon enough for me to use one
  510. 25:19of my spare Motors because I try and
  511. 25:22keep a few in stock as we get low on
  512. 25:26stock I have now decided that if we do
  513. 25:30have to repair a motor it's going to be
  514. 25:31another 30 these are so hard to get hold
  515. 25:34of at a reasonable price used even
  516. 25:37faulty um and obviously I don't want to
  517. 25:40buy a faulty one that has a blown motor
  518. 25:43that doesn't really get me very far at
  519. 25:46all so if we have damage like this and
  520. 25:48the motor's blown uh you can opt to pay
  521. 25:52uh the extra and have that repaired and
  522. 25:54it's probably still worth it even at70
  523. 25:57because this is a you know nearly 200 lb
  524. 26:00uh hair dryer so yeah just bear that in
  525. 26:03mind if I contact you with they saying
  526. 26:06I'm sorry the motor PCB has blown up uh
  527. 26:11yeah I'm not making it up I don't want
  528. 26:12to have to change it because I hate
  529. 26:14wasting stuff like this um but that is
  530. 26:16the reason that this will never be
  531. 26:19repairable if that happens fortunately
  532. 26:22it's it's uncommon if I do let's say I
  533. 26:26do 50 repairs I'll probably see one
  534. 26:29blown motor uh
  535. 26:32PCB so that's it really um putting it
  536. 26:35back is pretty much the same as getting
  537. 26:38it out there is one real pain in the
  538. 26:41backside there is a rubber insert here
  539. 26:46that keeps the wires from chaffing on
  540. 26:49the plastic uh that wasn't fitted on the
  541. 26:53Air1 the wires would just go into a
  542. 26:55little Groove here as you can see here
  543. 26:57but on this one they've decided to fit
  544. 27:00this little bit of silicon um if you
  545. 27:04leave it a little bit up in the air like
  546. 27:06that and try and Slot these things into
  547. 27:11it before lowering it down we're just
  548. 27:15going to put the fan back in there first
  549. 27:18make sure all the wires are the right
  550. 27:19way around then we're going to put the
  551. 27:22motor back in and in this case we've
  552. 27:26managed to get those wires in into that
  553. 27:29sleeve and what we can do now is just
  554. 27:32force all of that down like so and the
  555. 27:38wires are nice and safe running through
  556. 27:41that silicon piece uh at this point
  557. 27:44you've got to line up the switches there
  558. 27:48are some little
  559. 27:50holes that it lined up with and uh the
  560. 27:55other awkward thing here is just getting
  561. 27:57this cor shop button at the right angle
  562. 28:00and back in to place I can't do it on
  563. 28:03camera cuz it has to be on my
  564. 28:05lap and then just try it see that is in
  565. 28:10the perfect position switches are down
  566. 28:13we've got the cable in the right place
  567. 28:17don't forget to
  568. 28:19put the
  569. 28:22cable
  570. 28:24retainer plastic back in place and uh
  571. 28:28again I can't really do this in front of
  572. 28:31the
  573. 28:32camera for
  574. 28:35you maybe I can now but really really
  575. 28:39need to be supporting this they're quite
  576. 28:42coarse threaded
  577. 28:45screws so you need a fair bit of
  578. 28:47pressure to do those
  579. 28:50up there we go that's those done up
  580. 28:54don't
  581. 28:55overtighten everything is lined up up
  582. 28:58and now we've got to put the fan back on
  583. 29:01now it is critical again that the fan is
  584. 29:05placed back in the same
  585. 29:08place there should be a little bit of
  586. 29:11space just on the shaft showing there if
  587. 29:14you put it on too far the system the fan
  588. 29:17will foul the plastic in there if you
  589. 29:21put it on too high it is going to fou
  590. 29:24plastic of the cover and you may not
  591. 29:27notice that iMed immediately but when
  592. 29:29you assemble them and you start shaking
  593. 29:31them around as if you were doing hair uh
  594. 29:33you might find that the little bit of
  595. 29:37movement on the rubber mounts is just
  596. 29:41enough for this fan to touch the body uh
  597. 29:44of of this so something else to look out
  598. 29:47for again spanner is ideal really but I
  599. 29:50never have them here so I just used the
  600. 29:54pliers and that is that
  601. 29:59just check for free movement check all
  602. 30:01the wires are rooted correctly
  603. 30:04everything is good cool shot button is
  604. 30:06fine again it gets a little bit fiddly
  605. 30:09here I tend to tuck in the handle bit
  606. 30:13first it's got to go under
  607. 30:17here so don't start that way tuck it
  608. 30:20into there first and then bring it down
  609. 30:24at the
  610. 30:26front ah let ping out so we're going to
  611. 30:28have to do it again so what to do
  612. 30:31keeping it on camera there we go that's
  613. 30:34it and then press and it will click into
  614. 30:38place just look around make sure you've
  615. 30:41got a
  616. 30:43nice Gap or not much of a gap all the
  617. 30:47way around it needs to look the same if
  618. 30:48it's a if it's pushed apart you know in
  619. 30:52here it could be that you've got the
  620. 30:53core shot switch not quite in the right
  621. 30:55place and it's stopping the middle going
  622. 30:59together correctly at that point we will
  623. 31:02get the first screw back into the middle
  624. 31:06little tip here it can be very stiff bit
  625. 31:09of isopropyl alcohol couple of drips
  626. 31:12into there and with the security bit
  627. 31:16I'll drop that in and whilst that ISO
  628. 31:21propile alcohol is in there it's a lot
  629. 31:25easier to do these up and of course
  630. 31:28within a short period it has evaporated
  631. 31:31it's going in very
  632. 31:33easily and nip that up again don't
  633. 31:36overtighten any of these right now onto
  634. 31:39the screws at the end push this all
  635. 31:42together please make sure you are
  636. 31:44supporting the back here one screw in
  637. 31:49make sure you've got the right size
  638. 31:51screwdriver and gently screw this in
  639. 31:55very easy to snap this plastic out just
  640. 31:58need this I mean barely nipped up you
  641. 32:01just need to feel it
  642. 32:05stop or you will start breaking things
  643. 32:08especially on the older versions where
  644. 32:12they've seen a lot of use and things are
  645. 32:14a bit fragile Plastics a bit Harden you
  646. 32:17know that sort of thing right plug that
  647. 32:20can literally just be pushed back
  648. 32:24in now if you have got that Dam there
  649. 32:28this is when you will get your
  650. 32:31screwdriver and just literally smooth it
  651. 32:35down wherever that damage is and it will
  652. 32:38just cosmetically look a little better
  653. 32:40but as I say these are not designed to
  654. 32:43be
  655. 32:44repaired so you're going to have to put
  656. 32:47up with a little bit of cosmetic damage
  657. 32:48on this model uh there's very little we
  658. 32:51damage on repairs normally but that
  659. 32:54little bung is one of them now we've got
  660. 32:59to put this piece on we'll go with the
  661. 33:02split piece first lift that silicon up
  662. 33:05and slide this under at that point
  663. 33:09you're going to need to bend back the
  664. 33:13cable
  665. 33:15tension piece here just bend it out of
  666. 33:18the way like that and click that last
  667. 33:20bit in it's quite
  668. 33:23stiff and this one will just go in so
  669. 33:26click one side spin around click the
  670. 33:28other side and uh
  671. 33:32that is that do not run these without
  672. 33:36the air filter um you can buy these from
  673. 33:39us if you've lost one you've got to keep
  674. 33:42you wouldn't believe the hair dryers
  675. 33:45I've seen full of hair dirt dust just
  676. 33:49terrible you know it's a fire one of
  677. 33:51them was so full the hair and dust
  678. 33:54filled the entire enclosure of the hair
  679. 33:58dry I do have that on film from some
  680. 34:00months ago I had never seen anything
  681. 34:02like it it was like a bird's nest of
  682. 34:05hair and dust incredibly dangerous um
  683. 34:09situation that could have caught fire at
  684. 34:12any time because the elements were
  685. 34:14heating up and there was no air flow so
  686. 34:16it wouldn't have taken very much to have
  687. 34:18ignited the hair and dust and there
  688. 34:20would have been a fire going on um that
  689. 34:23was because this filter was missing so
  690. 34:26do not run it without that filter okay
  691. 34:28so I start with everything
  692. 34:30off and we'll check the
  693. 34:35fan and then we'll put it on fast with
  694. 34:38the
  695. 34:54heat and then with the heat off I'll
  696. 34:57just run it for for a few seconds just
  697. 34:58so it cools down completely and I can
  698. 35:01guarantee nice long life to these hair
  699. 35:05dryers and I suggest you would do the
  700. 35:07same uh
  701. 35:12thing just notice that is not quite
  702. 35:15horizontal so at some point I'll
  703. 35:16probably take these apart but as I said
  704. 35:19earlier do make sure that is hor oh
  705. 35:22there you go just clicked into place for
  706. 35:23me do make sure that those are
  707. 35:26horizontal hopefully you can see that
  708. 35:28let me turn it upside down yeah I think
  709. 35:31you can see that so that's it really um
  710. 35:34very nice expensive hair dryer uh fully
  711. 35:37repairable fingers crossed that you
  712. 35:39don't have a motor blur um but we do
  713. 35:42have Motors currently available uh to
  714. 35:46swap uh cables no problem everything
  715. 35:50else no problem dodgy switches you might
  716. 35:53find that they don't turn on uh you
  717. 35:55might find that the heat doesn't work
  718. 35:57work uh all of these things are
  719. 36:00repairable so that's it that is a tear
  720. 36:03down of the ghd Helios
  721. 36:06H1 and yeah I hope that was useful well
  722. 36:09at least to the person that asked about
  723. 36:11it on uh on YouTube so thanks for
  724. 36:13watching
