  1. 0:00here's some amazing YouTube advice from
  2. 0:0210 very successful YouTubers let's get
  3. 0:04into number one any of you listening if
  4. 0:06if you especially if you have zero
  5. 0:07videos on your channel your first video
  6. 0:09is not going to give views period it's
  7. 0:11not your first 10 are not gonna give
  8. 0:13views I can very confidently say that so
  9. 0:14stop sitting there and thinking for
  10. 0:16months and months on end and just get to
  11. 0:18work and start uploading like all you
  12. 0:20need to do is this applies to people
  13. 0:22that have not uploaded videos but have
  14. 0:23dreams of being a YouTuber is make 100
  15. 0:25videos and improve something every time
  16. 0:27do that and then on your 100 first video
  17. 0:29we'll start talking like maybe you can
  18. 0:31get some views but you know your first
  19. 0:33hundred okay there are very free cases
  20. 0:35like Liza koshy or Emma Chamberlain who
  21. 0:37have really good personalities and it
  22. 0:39doesn't take them so as many videos and
  23. 0:41it's just like people who are seven foot
  24. 0:44five and making the NBA like yes there
  25. 0:45are free cases you can find but for the
  26. 0:48average person like us you know who
  27. 0:49don't have these exceptional
  28. 0:50personalities and you know backgrounds
  29. 0:52in filmmaking just make 100 videos
  30. 0:54improve something each time and then
  31. 0:56talk to me on your 101st video well do
  32. 0:58you prove something is times tricky one
  33. 1:00how do you improve something each time
  34. 1:02the second one just I don't know put
  35. 1:04more effort into the script the third
  36. 1:06one try to learn a new editing trick the
  37. 1:08fourth one try to figure out a way that
  38. 1:09you can have better inflections in your
  39. 1:11voice the fifth one try to you know
  40. 1:13study a new thumbnail tip and implement
  41. 1:14it the sixth one try to figure out a new
  42. 1:16title there's infinite ways that's the
  43. 1:18beauty of content creation online
  44. 1:19there's literally infinite ways from the
  45. 1:21coloring to the frame rate to the
  46. 1:22editing to the filming to the production
  47. 1:23to the jokes to the pacing to every
  48. 1:25little thing can be improved and they
  49. 1:27can never not be improved there's no
  50. 1:28there's literally no such thing as a
  51. 1:30perfect video don't really worry about
  52. 1:32what your Niche is like people get hung
  53. 1:34up on this like I don't know what to
  54. 1:36make videos about it would be like a
  55. 1:38writer saying I don't know what to write
  56. 1:39about therefore I'm not going to write
  57. 1:41or like an artist saying I don't know
  58. 1:43what my masterpiece is going to be
  59. 1:45therefore I'm not going to hold a
  60. 1:46paintbrush it's totally okay for your
  61. 1:48Niche to emerge over time yes you can
  62. 1:51take a very calculating route and plot
  63. 1:52it out in advance and be like okay this
  64. 1:54is my path or you can do what I
  65. 1:55recommend which is just start making
  66. 1:56videos on YouTube about whatever you
  67. 1:58enjoy whatever you want if I was
  68. 1:59starting on YouTube I wouldn't really
  69. 2:01worry about the niche thing I just think
  70. 2:02you know what let me make videos about
  71. 2:03the things that I enjoy maybe some
  72. 2:05close-up magic because I'm not a total
  73. 2:07loser maybe like iPhones maybe like you
  74. 2:09know my favorite pen maybe like you know
  75. 2:10tips are getting started on YouTube
  76. 2:12maybe Life as a medical student maybe
  77. 2:13like whatever experiences in my life
  78. 2:15that I enjoy talking about and that I
  79. 2:17think I could teach on the internet that
  80. 2:18is the stuff I would start making videos
  81. 2:20about and over time as you start making
  82. 2:22videos about things that you enjoy the
  83. 2:24audience starts to resonate with some of
  84. 2:25those things and so your Niche ends up
  85. 2:28emerging over time I never thought I
  86. 2:30would be a productivity YouTuber but I
  87. 2:32seem to have become a productivity
  88. 2:33YouTuber because that Niche just sort of
  89. 2:35emerged over time it was not forward
  90. 2:37planned in advance and so if you've got
  91. 2:38a lot of interest if you've got a lot of
  92. 2:39things you're interested in or even if
  93. 2:41you don't know what to talk about on
  94. 2:42YouTube just start making stuff and you
  95. 2:44will figure it out don't be one of those
  96. 2:45writers who says I don't know what my
  97. 2:47bestseller book is going to be about
  98. 2:48therefore I'm not going to write a
  99. 2:49single word it's the same with YouTube
  100. 2:51who cares if you don't know what your
  101. 2:52Niche is your Niche can your Niche will
  102. 2:54change over time I started off making
  103. 2:55videos for medical school applicants I
  104. 2:57now no longer care about medical school
  105. 2:58applicants in terms of making video is
  106. 3:00and therefore it's it just sort of
  107. 3:01changes over time so don't worry about
  108. 3:03it don't overthink it just make the
  109. 3:05videos that you enjoy at start the
  110. 3:07wrongest call to action is to watch
  111. 3:08another video because now all of a
  112. 3:10sudden your channel went from like say
  113. 3:12eight minutes of watch time to 16
  114. 3:14minutes of watch time if they watch
  115. 3:15another one and it shows that this
  116. 3:17person is in your little Watch Web it
  117. 3:19also gives you another ad impression
  118. 3:20like that is the metric that YouTube
  119. 3:22cares about sure you could ask them to
  120. 3:24comment you can ask them to like that's
  121. 3:26totally fine but watching another video
  122. 3:28exposes them to more of your content and
  123. 3:30shows YouTube I am a channel that keeps
  124. 3:32people on this platform for 16 minutes
  125. 3:35rather than just eight minutes yep
  126. 3:37that's incredibly well and for everyone
  127. 3:39listening to call to actions it sounds
  128. 3:41like one in the first third that may be
  129. 3:43the like you don't want to ask me to
  130. 3:44watch another video and leave your
  131. 3:45correct charm one yes an outro just to
  132. 3:48clarify is watch another correct yes as
  133. 3:50opposed to decision fatigue up like
  134. 3:52watch comment pick that subscribe yeah
  135. 3:53people don't do any of those it's it's a
  136. 3:55meaningless call to action Patty
  137. 3:57Galloway was talking about the ideas of
  138. 3:59your video and then he's also talking
  139. 4:01about the titles when it comes to ideas
  140. 4:02and this is something we do I just don't
  141. 4:04think we've talked about it enough no
  142. 4:05for sure he said to think of 100 ideas
  143. 4:07bring it down to the top 10 and then
  144. 4:10choose one he goes I can't believe when
  145. 4:12people think of one video idea and they
  146. 4:14just go and make it keep in mind these
  147. 4:16were like Mr Beast he's working with
  148. 4:17people who require a like killer video
  149. 4:20idea the point is ideas matter so much
  150. 4:23on YouTube start with volume and then
  151. 4:26work your way in the best ones you know
  152. 4:28transitioning from a video idea to
  153. 4:30actually landing on a title when Patty
  154. 4:32was talking about titles it's just crazy
  155. 4:34how just the reframing of the right
  156. 4:37title will cause so much interest and
  157. 4:39his word was curiosity he gave a really
  158. 4:42cool example he was working with a
  159. 4:43client in the first variation of the
  160. 4:45title was inside a 1.7 million dollar
  161. 4:48New York Loft they didn't really love it
  162. 4:51and it wasn't there was nothing really
  163. 4:52interesting about it except the money
  164. 4:54value but there's probably more
  165. 4:55expensive ones or whatever right so then
  166. 4:57they they change it to I found the best
  167. 4:59loss left in New York and they liked it
  168. 5:02better they thought it improved and then
  169. 5:04they added one more thing to it which
  170. 5:06was I found the best Loft in NYC dot dot
  171. 5:09dot but nobody wants it and they were
  172. 5:12like that's the title they opened up
  173. 5:14this curiosity Loop if it's the best
  174. 5:16Loft in New York City why does nobody
  175. 5:19want it how can you breed curiosity into
  176. 5:21that because naturally you want to click
  177. 5:24on something that Sparks curiosity you
  178. 5:26want to know the answer and so you want
  179. 5:28to click on that video on that note of
  180. 5:29like deciding what videos to make how
  181. 5:31much are you good how much does it play
  182. 5:33on your mind of oh I know if I make this
  183. 5:35sort of video it'll get this this many
  184. 5:37views versus more like I feel like
  185. 5:39making this video because I feel like it
  186. 5:41and sort of that to me that's always
  187. 5:43felt like a bit of a spectrum of like
  188. 5:45doing things because I feel like it
  189. 5:46versus doing things because I know
  190. 5:48they'll perform well
  191. 5:49um how how do you think about sort of
  192. 5:51videos along along that Spectrum yeah so
  193. 5:54I think this is super lucky that the
  194. 5:58videos that I know will do well are the
  195. 6:02most interesting to me also because
  196. 6:04they're about probably a piece of tech
  197. 6:06that is so cool that I want to check it
  198. 6:08out anyway right so on one half it's
  199. 6:10like what videos will do well it's uh
  200. 6:12the the hottest gadgets the most
  201. 6:13impressive new things that people
  202. 6:15haven't seen before uh collaborations
  203. 6:17with really cool interesting people
  204. 6:19those I I know before we make them are
  205. 6:21like oh those are going to do pretty
  206. 6:22well and then on the other half is what
  207. 6:25do I want to do and sometimes it's well
  208. 6:27I want to check out this gadget this
  209. 6:29seems pretty cool well I kind of want to
  210. 6:31talk to this person they seem really
  211. 6:32interesting to talk to and suddenly like
  212. 6:34they're like meshing together and it's
  213. 6:35kind of the same pool of things so often
  214. 6:38um again it's like I don't have that
  215. 6:40much pressure to to like I don't really
  216. 6:42I'm not interested I'm not into this
  217. 6:43video but I'm gonna do it anyway because
  218. 6:45I know what it'll get a lot of views
  219. 6:46that doesn't happen too often for me
  220. 6:48because if I know it's going to get a
  221. 6:49lot of views why is that going to get a
  222. 6:50lot of views because it's a really
  223. 6:52interesting piece of tech oh okay so I'm
  224. 6:54in and has that always been your
  225. 6:56attitude or was that a thing that
  226. 6:57changed over time I think that's
  227. 6:58something I figured out over time I know
  228. 7:01that there are videos that I make that
  229. 7:02aren't going to blow up like the ones
  230. 7:05that are the most popular gadgets but I
  231. 7:07still want to share them because I still
  232. 7:09think they're cool and I think if I can
  233. 7:11make the video in a way that actually
  234. 7:12shows why I'm so interested in it then
  235. 7:14it will eventually
  236. 7:16be interesting to people and we'll catch
  237. 7:18on so I think that's something I sort of
  238. 7:19learned probably in the second half of
  239. 7:22making videos which is that yeah we can
  240. 7:24we can sort of justify pretty much any
  241. 7:27video we want to make hey I'd like to
  242. 7:28take a moment to talk about the sponsor
  243. 7:30of this video podcast whether you want
  244. 7:32to do a solo podcast or have all of your
  245. 7:34friends on podcast allows you to have up
  246. 7:36to 10 remote guests at a time one of the
  247. 7:39coolest Parts about this is that each
  248. 7:40person is going to be recorded locally
  249. 7:42on separate tracks and it's really easy
  250. 7:44for bringing guests on because they
  251. 7:46don't even need a podcast or account you
  252. 7:48just need to send them their link and
  253. 7:50then they can come onto your Show
  254. 7:51podcast even has a mobile app which
  255. 7:53makes it really easy for recording and
  256. 7:55exporting your content on the go they
  257. 7:57truly make it as simple as possible to
  258. 7:59produce your podcast thank you so much
  259. 8:01podcast though for sponsoring this video
  260. 8:03is there ever a point where it's like
  261. 8:05there's too much content I can't watch
  262. 8:06at all I think so and that's why
  263. 8:08sometimes you don't create even more
  264. 8:10content is not necessarily a bad thing
  265. 8:12because somebody might skip a day and if
  266. 8:14they watch your video today and they
  267. 8:16didn't watch yesterday they'll be like
  268. 8:17oh I go back she had one yesterday so
  269. 8:19let me go back and watch that I mean I
  270. 8:21think it's really just about like
  271. 8:22focusing on what your audience is
  272. 8:23sometimes you might not know what your
  273. 8:25audience is but just listen to them I
  274. 8:27mean I'm very quickly able to tell if
  275. 8:29somebody likes a video or they don't
  276. 8:31like a video in the comments but I think
  277. 8:33the most painful comments is if the ones
  278. 8:35where people are like man you know I
  279. 8:36usually really like your videos but this
  280. 8:37one wasn't my favorite I'm like oh shoot
  281. 8:39bird will you ever delete the videos no
  282. 8:43I mean I've definitely set some to
  283. 8:44private
  284. 8:45um mostly because it was just like
  285. 8:46announcement videos it's like you don't
  286. 8:48want it up there yeah it's like hey it
  287. 8:49comes over yeah come meet me here well
  288. 8:51that was like a week ago right okay even
  289. 8:53small YouTube channels can lead to Big
  290. 8:57opportunities one of the things that
  291. 8:59people make a mistake of is they're too
  292. 9:01focused on vanity metrics and so we
  293. 9:03think and we have mistakenly defined
  294. 9:06success on YouTube as you got to get a
  295. 9:08silver play button you got to get a gold
  296. 9:10play button it's about getting as mil as
  297. 9:12many views as possible and I believe
  298. 9:14that's a flawed definition of success
  299. 9:16views or subscribers are not the only
  300. 9:19metrics for Success one of the
  301. 9:21underappreciated benefits of starting a
  302. 9:24YouTube channel is the connections and
  303. 9:26communities that you build with your
  304. 9:28audience YouTube allows you to build an
  305. 9:31a loyal and engaged following which can
  306. 9:33lead to opportunities for monetization
  307. 9:35other forms of income collaborations and
  308. 9:38even career opportunities so the mistake
  309. 9:40people are making is they're like is it
  310. 9:42too late to start a YouTube channel it's
  311. 9:43like what do you even mean like is it
  312. 9:46too late to start a viral YouTube
  313. 9:48channel why do you even need to go viral
  314. 9:50what if you have a different business
  315. 9:51model what if you get a promotion at
  316. 9:52your job what if it leads to that next
  317. 9:55connection or that next partner whatever
  318. 9:57leads to your future spouse like there's
  319. 10:00a lot of opportunities that could come
  320. 10:01from starting a YouTube channel and so
  321. 10:04you know I just want to present you the
  322. 10:06data that possibly defining it just by
  323. 10:10subscribers or vanity metrics is a
  324. 10:13limited if not completely flawed
  325. 10:15definition of success and speaking of
  326. 10:18starting a new channel or if your
  327. 10:19channel is small if you haven't heard we
  328. 10:21actually are doing a five-day free
  329. 10:25YouTube challenge and so if you go to
  330. 10:28tube1kchallenge.com for the new year if
  331. 10:30you're interested in saying Sean I do
  332. 10:32see the opportunity on YouTube I would
  333. 10:34like to learn some of the best tips and
  334. 10:35strategies you can go to tube number 1K
  335. 10:38the letter K challenge.com right now if
  336. 10:42you want to jump start your views right
  337. 10:44now and maybe you're not getting the
  338. 10:47momentum or the growth that you want is
  339. 10:49jump on Trends within your Niche can you
  340. 10:52talk about how that completely changed
  341. 10:54everything to you and what your thoughts
  342. 10:56are when it comes to people jumping on
  343. 10:59Trends and what are your tips yeah I
  344. 11:02think doesn't he call that a trend
  345. 11:03hacking yeah for sure yeah that's
  346. 11:06everything right now that's what Mr
  347. 11:08Beast and from the biggest to the
  348. 11:10smallest that is one of the best ways to
  349. 11:13Garner views and the audience and uh
  350. 11:16following the subscribers and sessions
  351. 11:18so
  352. 11:19um for me it's kind of funny I know if I
  353. 11:22have a gadget a tech product that is
  354. 11:24maybe about to be released if I get
  355. 11:27maybe a pre-release review unit then
  356. 11:29it's almost like four certain okay well
  357. 11:31people are going to be searching about
  358. 11:33it and talking about it right on that
  359. 11:35release date and so that video will do
  360. 11:37well now of course
  361. 11:38um you don't always get that product
  362. 11:40early that's very that's very hard
  363. 11:41especially when you're first starting
  364. 11:43out so maybe if that product just
  365. 11:45releases and I can maybe go buy it and
  366. 11:47then quick in a couple days turn around
  367. 11:48the video that will often do well
  368. 11:50another thing is a scene that wave or
  369. 11:53that Trend uh the virality of something
  370. 11:56before it hits I was on that wave right
  371. 12:00before it started to take off and that's
  372. 12:02why I think
  373. 12:04um I made it just a well condensed
  374. 12:06little review of video on hoverboards
  375. 12:08and uh and then YouTube really liked it
  376. 12:11it's like okay this is the authority on
  377. 12:13hoverboards and so when all these
  378. 12:15millions of people are searching for
  379. 12:16hoverboards and how to buy one and stuff
  380. 12:18like that I was the one that they
  381. 12:20promoted and so uh there's a lot of it's
  382. 12:23easier said than done but trying to stay
  383. 12:25ahead of the curve on what that next
  384. 12:28trend is going to be and then uh riding
  385. 12:31that wave and then you gotta remember
  386. 12:32that that wave will finish it'll crash
  387. 12:34down and then you gotta paddle back out
  388. 12:36and then find the next one nothing uh
  389. 12:38survives forever so I see a lot of
  390. 12:40people even myself hoverboards they were
  391. 12:43hot for a little while and then they
  392. 12:44faded away and it's like okay if I only
  393. 12:46did hoverboard reviews my channel would
  394. 12:48be dead but I had to Pivot
  395. 12:50and I like all things Tech anyway so
  396. 12:53that was kind of a natural fit but uh
  397. 12:55but yet always looking for that next
  398. 12:57wave is really key so what's the secret
  399. 13:00to creating a good short a lot of
  400. 13:02b-rolls everything that I stayed I have
  401. 13:04a b-roll like and then the doctor came
  402. 13:07in with this interesting device and I
  403. 13:09showed the device so every phrase has to
  404. 13:13be supported by footage that shows
  405. 13:16what's going on and the more relevant
  406. 13:19the footage is the better it is for the
  407. 13:22video they have to be as relevant as
  408. 13:24possible because sometimes we go to
  409. 13:26Shutterstock I like we're talking about
  410. 13:29oh a lot of students in the US and then
  411. 13:31we have
  412. 13:32these faces that we've seen everywhere
  413. 13:34like plastic acting you know I don't
  414. 13:37know they'll like you see they're not
  415. 13:39relatable because they're actors and the
  416. 13:42production quality is amazing but this
  417. 13:45is not what works for shorts something
  418. 13:47that's raw something that is filmed with
  419. 13:51an iPhone maybe worse quality this is
  420. 13:53what people are looking for in that type
  421. 13:55of content we experimented a lot with
  422. 13:57repurposed videos from YouTube you can
  423. 13:59just tell that this video was not made
  424. 14:02for shorts and you're like why should I
  425. 14:04bother if the Creator didn't bother
  426. 14:06creating a short specific video and we
  427. 14:09noticed that once I switched to creating
  428. 14:12content specifically for short videos
  429. 14:14that the traction has been tremendous
  430. 14:16there's such a tendency especially in a
  431. 14:19world where able to count your views in
  432. 14:22real time that if it doesn't work today
  433. 14:24it's never going to work and you know
  434. 14:26like I talked to Jimmy Mr Beast about
  435. 14:29this a lot like I spent whatever seven
  436. 14:31years making videos before he had one
  437. 14:33that broke a thousand views or something
  438. 14:34extraordinary like that and now he's
  439. 14:36doing a billion views a month
  440. 14:39um or my brother van who's the most
  441. 14:41brilliant mind on all of YouTube and you
  442. 14:45know van had this initial explosion of
  443. 14:47interest because he and I worked so hard
  444. 14:48to promote his first
  445. 14:50you know his first videos and then I
  446. 14:51explained to him I was like look it's
  447. 14:53all going to go away you're going to
  448. 14:54find your Baseline then you're gonna
  449. 14:55build from there and he's been
  450. 14:57consistently uploading for a year making
  451. 14:59the best work he can make and now he's
  452. 15:01really building out what is going to be
  453. 15:02a successful long-term career making
  454. 15:05videos and putting them on the Internet
  455. 15:07yeah
  456. 15:08it's extremely unsexy it's extremely
  457. 15:12uninteresting and no one wants to hear
  458. 15:14that it takes time but it takes time and
  459. 15:18I think if uh it's something that
  460. 15:20especially if you're young and just
  461. 15:21getting into this you don't want to
  462. 15:22invest but patience is really the most
  463. 15:26undervalued
  464. 15:28um
  465. 15:29aspect of succeeding in the world of
  466. 15:31media today you have all the agency in
  467. 15:34the world you don't need anything from
  468. 15:35anyone but if you're not willing to
  469. 15:37commit the time to it you're never going
  470. 15:39to find that success 100 if you want to
  471. 15:41learn how to grow a YouTube channel this
  472. 15:43year then click on the screen and watch
  473. 15:45this video and I'll see you guys in the
  474. 15:46next one
