4. 0:15who's engaging with this um so yeah my
5. 0:19name's Holly Mariam and I'm here reading
6. 0:22a chapter a day from the Ethiopian Bible
7. 0:25um just started just started this am I'm
8. 0:28I'm brand new to Tik Tok to set up this
9. 0:30account um but it felt like the most
10. 0:33appropriate place to do it I might B
11. 0:35some to my YouTube account as well but
12. 0:37for some reason Tik Tok felt like the
13. 0:39right platform even though I wasn't on
14. 0:40the platform before so reading from the
15. 0:44Dr Lewis Spencer translation of the
16. 0:47Ethiopian Bible which is the complete
17. 0:49Bible so it includes all of the
18. 0:52traditional texts from the Old Testament
19. 0:54the New Testament as well as the texts
20. 0:57that were left out of the kind of the
21. 1:00more um you know the King James Bible
22. 1:02version which only has 66 books this has
23. 1:05110 books so it's the complete Bible not
24. 1:08just the missing sections which a lot of
25. 1:10the translations are so Genesis chapter
26. 1:143 so I'll go straight in and the serpent
27. 1:19had been cunning above every beast of
28. 1:21the field which Yahweh God has made and
29. 1:24he says to the woman is it true that God
30. 1:27has said you do not eat from the Tree of
31. 1:29the garden
32. 1:30and the woman says to the serpent from
33. 1:33the from the fruit of the Trees of the
34. 1:35garden we eat but from the fruit of the
35. 1:38tree which is in the midst of the garden
36. 1:40God has said you do not eat nor touch it
37. 1:43lest you die and the serpent says to the
38. 1:46woman dying you do not die for God knows
39. 1:49that in the day of your eating of it
40. 1:52your eyes have been opened and you have
41. 1:54been as God knowing good and evil and
42. 1:57the woman sees that the tree is good for
43. 1:59food and that is Pleasant to the eyes
44. 2:02and the tree is desirable to make one
45. 2:04wise and she takes from its fruit and
46. 2:06eats and she also gives some to her
47. 2:08husband with her and he eats and the
48. 2:11eyes of both of them are opened and they
49. 2:13know that they are naked and they sew
50. 2:16fig leaves and make girdles for
51. 2:18themselves and they hear the sound of
52. 2:20Yahweh God walking up and down in the
53. 2:22garden at the breeze of the day and the
54. 2:24man and his wife hide themselves from
55. 2:26the face of Yahweh in the midst of the
56. 2:28tree of the garden and YW where God
57. 2:30calls to man and says to him where are
58. 2:34you and he says I have heard your sound
59. 2:37in the garden and I'm afraid for I am
60. 2:39naked and I hide myself and he says who
61. 2:42has declared that you are naked have you
62. 2:45eaten for the tree of which I've
63. 2:47commanded you not to eat and the man
64. 2:49says the woman who you place with me she
65. 2:51has given me from the tree and I ate and
66. 2:56Yahweh God says to the woman what is
67. 2:58this you have done and the woman and
68. 3:00says the serpent has caused me to forget
69. 3:02and I ate and Yahweh God says to the
70. 3:05serpent because you have done this
71. 3:08cursed to you above all the livestock
72. 3:10and above every beast of the field on
73. 3:13your belly you go and dust you eat for
74. 3:15all the days of your life and I put
75. 3:18emnity between you and the woman between
76. 3:20your seed and her seed he bruises your
77. 3:23head and you bruise his heel to the
78. 3:26woman he said multiplying I multiply
79. 3:28your sorrow and your conception you will
80. 3:31bear children in sorrow and your desire
81. 3:33is towards your man or husband and he or
82. 3:37will rule over you and to the man he
83. 3:40says because you have listened to the
84. 3:42voice of your wife and eat from the tree
85. 3:43concerning which I have charged you
86. 3:45saying do not eat cursed is the ground
87. 3:48on your account in the sorrow you ate it
88. 3:51for all the days of your life and it
89. 3:53brings for thorn and bramble for you and
90. 3:56you have eaten the herb of the field by
91. 3:58the sweat of your face and you eat bread
92. 4:00until you return to the ground for you
93. 4:03have been taken out of it for dust you
94. 4:05are and to dust you return and the man
95. 4:08calls his wife name Eve for she is the
96. 4:11mother of all things and Yahweh God
97. 4:14makes a coats of skin for the man and
98. 4:17his wife and clothe them and Yahweh God
99. 4:20says behold the man was as one of us and
100. 4:23to the knowledge of Good and Evil and
101. 4:25now lest he send down his hand he has
102. 4:27also taken from the Tree of Life and
103. 4:29been eaten and lived for all time and
104. 4:32Yahweh God sent him forth from the
105. 4:34Garden of Eden to serve the ground for
106. 4:37which had been taken indeed he cast out
107. 4:39the man and causes the cherubin to dwell
108. 4:41in the east of the Garden of Eden and
109. 4:44the sword of flame swirling around to
110. 4:46guard the way of the tree of life for
111. 4:49these few words I give thanks here and
112. 4:51if the reading blessed love yet bre yeah
113. 4:55um yeah it's quite a difficult passage
114. 4:58some of the things that are been taught
115. 4:59about in there um in terms of you know
116. 5:04God's punishment for um man and woman um
117. 5:09you know disobeying his orders you know
118. 5:11God said do not eat from the tree and
119. 5:14then the serpent deceived Eve and she
120. 5:17ate from the tree gave adam some food to
121. 5:19eat from the tree and then the curses
122. 5:22that God puts on Adam and Eve because of
123. 5:26that disobeying and it's quite difficult
124. 5:28to read particular
125. 5:30verse 16 when he says to the woman you
126. 5:34know because of your sin you shall be
127. 5:37given to the man and become a servant in
128. 5:40all the days and that verse Genesis 3:16
129. 5:44has been used to justify you know the
130. 5:47subservience of women and patriarchal
131. 5:50societies and basically try to justify
132. 5:53that women are lesser than the man um
133. 5:55and that's been you know since the days
134. 5:57of you know early days of B
135. 6:00that verse has being used to try to
136. 6:03justify um women not having equal rights
137. 6:07basically um but you know there are
138. 6:10arguments against that you know God
139. 6:12didn't want that to be the state of Adam
140. 6:16and Eve because the you know the serpent
141. 6:19deceived um Eve in that space and he
142. 6:23acknowledged that that the serpent
143. 6:25deceived so he didn't want that in
144. 6:27inequality to be the the natural way and
145. 6:31actually when you think about us as
146. 6:33Christians um tiaho believing in Jesus
147. 6:37and Jesus is the new way he became new
148. 6:39laws he became new life he became new
149. 6:41covenants and wiped away those old sins
150. 6:45of Adam um so it's I think it's hard to
151. 6:49justify that continuation it's a it's a
152. 6:53it's a um punishment on Eve in that time
153. 6:57but I don't believe that that's a
154. 6:59continual punishment for all eternity
155. 7:02because that's why we believe in Jesus
156. 7:04yesus Christos because he was the new
157. 7:06way and he wiped away those old sins um
158. 7:09so you know to just to use verse 316 to
159. 7:14try to justify patal societies and
160. 7:17unequal treatment of women Society you
161. 7:20know I believe that's a
162. 7:22misinterpretation and um I'm not the
163. 7:24only one to believe so really there's
164. 7:26other arguments against that as well but
165. 7:28it wasn't the way that God wanted the
166. 7:31relationship to be it a punishment in
167. 7:34that time but it's not an eternal
168. 7:37punishment um so I know ones have their
169. 7:40opinions on these things again but I'm
170. 7:43given my um yeah my over understanding
171. 7:46of these things really but yeah there's
172. 7:49a lot going on in there in terms of you
173. 7:51know when God's given us an
174. 7:53instruction be careful not to listen to
175. 7:56the instructions of others that
176. 7:57contradict you know the god teaching do
177. 8:00you know what I mean because God was
178. 8:01very clear to not eat from that tree but
179. 8:04then someone else comes along and
180. 8:06deceives so there's a lot of things in
181. 8:08here about Temptation about the will of
182. 8:11us rather than the will of God you know
183. 8:14um you know in the T hedo church we fast
184. 8:19you know every Wednesday every Friday
185. 8:21and then all the feast days fasting days
186. 8:23that we got ab and others you know we
187. 8:26got more fasting days than any other
188. 8:28Church in the world so that kind of
189. 8:32restrainment um in terms of sacrifice
190. 8:35self- sacrifice is all part of this same
191. 8:39um chapter the same Narrative of not
192. 8:41being led into temptation and actually
193. 8:44having some self-control and some
194. 8:46self-will which isn't easy you what I
195. 8:48mean is not easy um but that's is all
196. 8:51part of that same tradition and teaching
197. 8:54so um so yeah that's my over
198. 8:56understanding and my um reflection
199. 9:00and I I'll end it here but everyone have
200. 9:02a blessed day um listening to this as I
201. 9:05say I'm doing this I'm recording this
202. 9:07for myself and then put up there but
203. 9:10anyone engaging this I wish you a
