  1. 0:00Hey and welcome to your honors
  2. 0:02this are the episodes
  3. 0:05and this episode is the introduction which talks about the future episodes and sessions
  4. 0:12it will explain in details and provide some briefs
  5. 0:17about different concepts of research methodology or research methods
  6. 0:23our application may intersect with different sectors
  7. 0:27the focus may be more on business and management generally
  8. 0:31we will also handle some topics related to social and humans studies
  9. 0:35in addition to that we will talk about examples from various sciences
  10. 0:39such as medicine, science related to engineering or similar
  11. 0:43in order that I will be a means to understand the concept or concepts of research methods
  12. 0:53of course in this episodes I will be glad of your comments on different social media either on YouTube,
  13. 1:01Facebook or twitter hopefully you will review all of them
  14. 1:04there were already many previous episode groups, that only talked about few parts that we didn’t finished,
  15. 1:10this following episodes will complete those parts
  16. 1:11and every episodes, sessions, will have a title and an order
  17. 1:16in order that you will refer to the adequate episodes in the right time
  18. 1:19also the order will be appropriate so you can choose directly an episode to watch without watching the all episodes
  19. 1:27today this part, we will briefly identify the general steps used in the scientific research methods
  20. 1:34and I will handle in it especially master and doctoral, with different types and specialties
  21. 1:42of course the lecture will be brief and summarized, it will be general and the details will came after
  22. 1:50mostly in the scheme that will appear in front of you in the screen
  23. 1:55to move we have studied many scientific subjects
  24. 1:59this arrow represent our academic journey
  25. 2:04this academic journey could be a master, MBA in business field, master of science or doctorate
  26. 2:12we have subjects that are around eight, there is four and other four
  27. 2:17this eight subjects are essential, this eight subjects could be divided into a four/four groups
  28. 2:22considering types and specialties
  29. 2:23we study for example four main subjects related to the sciences we are into in a detailed way
  30. 2:29for exemple we study subjects such as management, accounting
  31. 2:33and a parts related to human resources, and financial planning or financial management
  32. 2:41the four following subjects are more detailed
  33. 2:44we can start to study some subjects
  34. 2:46such as strategic management, strategic HR or similar
  35. 2:50we finished the whole eight subjects we will have some specialties
  36. 2:54we will study four subjects related to the branch you were specialized into
  37. 3:00for example in business we could study something related to marketing
  38. 3:04something related to strategy, something related to global business or something related to finance
  39. 3:10these four subject are more concentrated and specialized within this speciality 0:03:15.420,0:03:22.660 and after we will have four more subjects that could -regarding the university location either it is in Egypt or outside Egypt, I’m talking here contains the two -
  40. 3:22provide us with more choices, like if they were an elective subjects
  41. 3:26they give us a choice from two to four subjects and we have to choose the subject that we are willing to study in an advanced
  42. 3:32way from the total of sixteen subjects that we have studied
  43. 3:35after finishing we had to produce a scientific research
  44. 3:40this letter in the master level is used in literature and research methodology as a thesis
  45. 3:50the scientific letter in doctorate is named dissertation
  46. 3:54the two words could be used exchangeable in the case the lexicon is not very specific or precise
  47. 4:02let’s all agree that thesis word is related to master or any master degree, and dissertation is related more to doctorate,
  48. 4:12so how am i supposed to do a master or a doctorate ?
  49. 4:15in fact we have some specific steps I will explain above
  50. 4:20I will put them here step by step
  51. 4:22there is six essential steps and I will give each step names from the scientific research literature
  52. 4:26the first is problem definition, we don’t mean by this just a simple problem, it’s just the conventional word
  53. 4:32but in fact it is used as a definition of the topic I will work on
  54. 4:37the major and minor questions and other components will come in further episodes
  55. 4:42after if I was able to define well my problem either it was a problem or an opportunity it is a question that I’m willing to answer
  56. 4:50I’ll go then to review the literature
  57. 4:51this word literature review means that I will review the scientific literature
  58. 4:56what was produced by science and what we agree on it, what we disagree on it in science
  59. 5:01in order to discover the diversity and the gap, adequate theories and models that treat my problem or the topic I have chosen
  60. 5:11if the literature is able to show us and where is the gap and you get on literature
  61. 5:18you will blend that with the problem in a form called R.D or research design
  62. 5:23what is this research design that we are talking about
  63. 5:26and how we will combine the science in literature review with the problem and question that are here in order to solve it
  64. 5:31the research design has details and in the majority of research method books it occupies more than half of the book
  65. 5:37for example may be if the books contains twenty chapters, the research design part is ten chapters
  66. 5:43if we finish the research design, we review
  67. 5:46and we are sure it is good and accurate with the supervisors and the supervisory entity
  68. 5:52there is a good reviewing point here in a way that are some universities and a lot of them, the ranked ones precisely and quality universities and faculties
  69. 6:01tells us no, I will review this part very well
  70. 6:03and I will enter with you in an intensive review
  71. 6:05because it can be graded separately from the next steps you will do
  72. 6:11so what are the next steps to do ? which are four, five and six
  73. 6:14D means data collection, I will gather data
  74. 6:18but I will gather this data for what, It’s for my research design
  75. 6:21the next step is analysis
  76. 6:23I’ll take the data, I’ll deal with it, precise what is it type
  77. 6:28the ones who knows we called primary data and all the data before the research design called secondary data
  78. 6:32the primary data that was gathered for the research design, I’ll analyze it,
  79. 6:37the result of this analysis, either it was a quantitative or qualitative analysis
  80. 6:41and we will talk about the quantitative and qualitative analysis methodologies
  81. 6:44and quantitative and qualitative methodologies in research design in further episodes
  82. 6:48we are just in the introduction, after that I’ll produce a conclusion
  83. 6:53so if I do all the six steps, I will finish my thesis or my dissertation
  84. 6:59are those six steps have a name? Of course, we will give it in the next episode and explain it in details
  85. 7:03it is called deductive approach
  86. 7:05or we tend to call it deductive approach either it was six, seven or eight steps but those are the main six steps
  87. 7:12well, in order to comprehend and to achieve it, how much I must study the research methodology ?
  88. 7:18its right to have three concentrated doses of research methodology across your academicals journey
  89. 7:24approximatively twelve to sixteen hours at the beginning considering as an introduction
  90. 7:29and this is provided by most universities even those who don’t, are now trying to catch up
  91. 7:35the thirty hours to thirty six hours some universities in Egypt or outside are minimize it to twenty four hours
  92. 7:43it is considered fewer than usual
  93. 7:44but the appropriate period amount is from thirty to thirty six hours
  94. 7:49in this thirty hours we study research methodology in a concentrated way
  95. 7:52and after we have two alternatives
  96. 7:54either there is one or two supervisors with you and you can do a whole thesis which are the six steps above
  97. 8:00and you will need from four to six month in this case
  98. 8:04four to six month with the supervisor and his assistant so that they will be able to provide you with ideas
  99. 8:11and review and be sure that you are in the right scientific path
  100. 8:15well, some of universities and faculties said no we will exchange it with credit hours, it is possible, and it’s a proposed solution
  101. 8:21even I don’t prefer that personally
  102. 8:23because it impact the technical level and competence of the graduated master students and also the doctorate of course
  103. 8:30but it doesn’t occurs often in doctorate
  104. 8:32in the master universities would say, we will allow you to do two parts from the parts above
  105. 8:38which are the problem definition and literature review and they name it seminar course or final project
  106. 8:44seminar course or final project mean the two first steps which are problem definition and literature review
  107. 8:52and the part related to research design can be added
  108. 8:56but the majority the full steps of the deductive thesis, he said no, stop here
  109. 9:04this two steps are sufficient : problem definition and the further is research design
  110. 9:08and say thanks, you have finished the qualifying subjects
  111. 9:12and you produced a content which said that were able to integrate all the previous sixteen subjects
  112. 9:18and blend them into a scientific research
  113. 9:20or a part of a scientific research
  114. 9:22scientific letter it means thesis or dissertation
  115. 9:24and the part which is the seminar or the project
  116. 9:28if we finish the research that it means we have closured our component
  117. 9:32and often every methodology of those either in
  118. 9:35thesis, dissertation in master or doctorate degrees
  119. 9:38will demand to write all the six steps in a precise transcription
  120. 9:43or the common and adopted transcription in science
  121. 9:46the famous one is used frequently in social studies and may be business or in our region Egypt and near countries
  122. 9:54you will find that we use APA format which is the American psychological association format
  123. 10:03the association of psychologists has established a standard long time ago
  124. 10:09its value and its advantage is that he is similar to every other formats
  125. 10:13but can preserve author rights and the science we take from other resources rights
  126. 10:18and also our right to everything we write or produce in our thesis
  127. 10:23This was the introduction, thank you
  128. 10:26and we will meet in another episode, thank you very much
  129. 10:29and I’ll be glad to have your questions and suggestions
