  18. 0:33freelancers choose not to you may not be
  19. 0:35able to control how naturally talented
  20. 0:37or smart you are but you can always
  21. 0:39control how hard you work i'm one of the
  22. 0:41highest earning freelancers on upwork
  23. 0:42i'm expert vetted i was recently
  24. 0:44featured in the wall street journal and
  25. 0:46i'm on pace to surpass one million
  26. 0:48dollars earned on upwork within the next
  27. 0:50two years i promise you i did not get
  28. 0:52here because of how smart i am i got
  29. 0:54here because my work ethic consistency
  30. 0:56discipline and patience are unmatched if
  31. 0:58someone is smarter than you then outwork
  32. 1:00them if someone is more naturally
  33. 1:02talented than you are then be more
  34. 1:03consistent if someone has more
  35. 1:05experience than you then be patient put
  36. 1:07in the work and find ways to gain
  37. 1:09experience around your skills listen
  38. 1:11people like you and i can't skip to work
  39. 1:13and have everything handed to us you
  40. 1:15have to pay the price that every
  41. 1:16successful self-made upwork freelancer
  42. 1:18has already paid be patient my goal is
  43. 1:21to help you escape the corporate work
  44. 1:22environment make the money that you want
  45. 1:24from anywhere you want work with who you
  46. 1:26want and create a high profit online
  47. 1:28freelance business upwork and
  48. 1:30freelancing changed my life forever and
  49. 1:32my mission is to help you succeed faster
  50. 1:34than i did by sharing everything that
  51. 1:35i've learned with you along with all my
  52. 1:37mistakes as well i also want to give a
  53. 1:39huge shout out to skillshare for
  54. 1:41sponsoring this video but more on that
  55. 1:43later the first proven tip to help you
  56. 1:44win jobs on upwork is to add non-upward
  57. 1:47client testimonials to your profile when
  58. 1:49a client views your profile they're
  59. 1:50looking for reasons why they should
  60. 1:52trust you upward clients want to make
  61. 1:54sure
  62. 1:55that the money that they invest into you
  63. 2:00is actually going to be worth it client
  64. 2:02reviews are the best way that you can
  65. 2:04build trust and prove the quality of
  66. 2:05your work so what if you're a new
  67. 2:07freelancer and you don't have any client
  68. 2:09reviews or feedback yet thanks to upwork
  69. 2:11listening to suggestions from
  70. 2:12freelancers like you and i you can now
  71. 2:14add non-upward client testimonials to
  72. 2:16your upwork profile this feature did not
  73. 2:19exist in 2016 when i started on upwork
  74. 2:21and you better believe that if i was
  75. 2:23starting over as a new freelancer today
  76. 2:25i would focus heavily on obtaining
  77. 2:26client testimonials for my profile all
  78. 2:28you have to do is simply reach out to
  79. 2:30people you've worked with in the past
  80. 2:31and get them to write a short review for
  81. 2:33your testimonial section that ideally
  82. 2:35relates to your upwork skill set it's so
  83. 2:37simple that you can send the request
  84. 2:39directly from your upwork profile out of
  85. 2:41everything on my upwork profile my
  86. 2:43client reviews and feedback are the most
  87. 2:45important the reputation that i've built
  88. 2:47for myself on upwork is what allows me
  89. 2:49to receive consistent job invites i mean
  90. 2:51no joke i probably haven't manually
  91. 2:53searched for a job on upwork in at least
  92. 2:55six months so a little off topic but as
  93. 2:57you start winning jobs and earning great
  94. 2:59reviews definitely consider increasing
  95. 3:01your rates as well for example i started
  96. 3:03on upwork with my hourly rate set to 25
  97. 3:05and i now make 125 dollars an hour if
  98. 3:08you're a new freelancer another thing
  99. 3:10you can do is simply add a review to
  100. 3:11your profile overview just reach out to
  101. 3:13someone you've worked with in the past
  102. 3:15off upwork and ask them to write a short
  103. 3:17review for you really similar to what
  104. 3:19you would do for your client
  105. 3:20testimonials then find a creative way to
  106. 3:22include the review in your profile that
  107. 3:24really flows well always remember that
  108. 3:26it's extremely important to build a
  109. 3:27positive reputation for yourself on
  110. 3:29upwork this will make clients come to
  111. 3:31you allowing you to make more money by
  112. 3:34freeing up all the time that you spend
  113. 3:36searching for jobs the second proven tip
  114. 3:38to help you win jobs on upwork is to be
  115. 3:40insanely active on upwork the highest
  116. 3:42earning freelancers on upwork rarely
  117. 3:44have to search for jobs as i mentioned
  118. 3:46earlier i haven't searched for a job on
  119. 3:48upwork in probably six months because of
  120. 3:50all my long-term work and also clients
  121. 3:52inviting me to their jobs however until
  122. 3:54you reach that point you need to be
  123. 3:56insanely active on upwork that means
  124. 3:58using advanced search to frequently
  125. 4:00check for new job postings and then
  126. 4:02submitting proposals on jobs that best
  127. 4:04align with your skill set experience
  128. 4:06geographic location and other criteria
  129. 4:08for example let's say you have a full
  130. 4:10time 9 to 5 job and you spend 2 hours
  131. 4:13after work each day searching for jobs
  132. 4:15and submitting proposals on upwork if
  133. 4:17someone else who's really similar to you
  134. 4:19same skill set same experience similar
  135. 4:22location spends four hours after work
  136. 4:24each day on upwork then their chances of
  137. 4:26winning jobs are basically double what
  138. 4:27yours are the more time and effort that
  139. 4:29you put into something the more that you
  140. 4:31will get out of it this doesn't mean
  141. 4:33opening up work and 20 other tabs in
  142. 4:35your web browser while scrolling through
  143. 4:36instagram and twitter on your iphone at
  144. 4:38the same time put your mind and focus
  145. 4:40100 into upwork and eliminate all other
  146. 4:43distractions look for jobs with a max of
  147. 4:4510 to 15 proposals submitted which has a
  148. 4:48new freelancer will give you the best
  149. 4:49chance of being noticed and whether you
  150. 4:51like this new feature that's being
  151. 4:52tested or not you can now also boost
  152. 4:54your proposals to help them stand out to
  153. 4:56clients personally i would only
  154. 4:58recommend using extra connects on jobs
  155. 5:00that align perfectly with your skills
  156. 5:02and experience my concern is that new
  157. 5:04freelancers will use this feature to
  158. 5:06boost their proposals on every job and
  159. 5:08just waste tons of connects tip number
  160. 5:10three to help you win jobs on upwork is
  161. 5:12to get inspiration from high earning
  162. 5:13successful freelancers freelancers with
  163. 5:15the highest earnings job success scores
  164. 5:17talent badges and five star reviews are
  165. 5:19freelancers that you need to get
  166. 5:20inspiration from they're obviously doing
  167. 5:23things right on upwork or they wouldn't
  168. 5:24be where they're at when i created my
  169. 5:26account on upwork in 2016 i searched for
  170. 5:28the highest earning sql freelancers and
  171. 5:30studied their profiles intensely and now
  172. 5:32i'm the highest earning sql freelancer
  173. 5:34on upwork and the only one who's expert
  174. 5:36vetted as well and this should be
  175. 5:38obvious but don't copy anyone's profile
  176. 5:40your goal should be to get inspiration
  177. 5:42from the highest earning freelancers
  178. 5:43which will help you make your profile
  179. 5:45stand out when researching the highest
  180. 5:46earning freelancers and open jobs on
  181. 5:48upwork you may realize that you need to
  182. 5:50put more time into learning freelance
  183. 5:52skills your skill set has to come first
  184. 5:54if somehow you win a job on upwork but
  185. 5:56you don't actually know how to solve the
  186. 5:58client's problem then you're likely
  187. 5:59going to start off with a bad review you
  188. 6:01really don't understand how fortunate
  189. 6:02you are to live in a time where it's
  190. 6:04easier than ever to learn skills online
  191. 6:06in a convenient way that fits into your
  192. 6:08schedule before i show you more proven
  193. 6:10ways to win jobs on upwork i first need

  230. 7:19skillshare for sponsoring this video tip
  231. 7:21number four to help you win jobs on
  232. 7:23upwork is to improve your upwork profile
  233. 7:25search engine optimization or seo upwork
  234. 7:28does not release any information
  235. 7:29regarding how their algorithm works and
  236. 7:31i often see new freelancers blaming
  237. 7:33upwork's algorithm for their lack of
  238. 7:35success or ability to receive job
  239. 7:37invites and you know what i see the same
  240. 7:39complaints from youtubers who complain
  241. 7:41about youtube search algorithm listen
  242. 7:43algorithms can change anytime especially
  243. 7:46on sites like upwork and you cannot
  244. 7:47control them sometimes my profile ranks
  245. 7:49near the top of the list for sql server
  246. 7:51dba without any filters applied and
  247. 7:53other times i'm not even on the first
  248. 7:55page upwork does a great job at rotating
  249. 7:57freelancer profiles to give everyone a
  250. 7:59fair chance even freelancers that have
  251. 8:02little to no reviews everyone starts at
  252. 8:04zero and you cannot control the upwork
  253. 8:05search algorithm so if you find yourself
  254. 8:07complaining about it all you're doing is
  255. 8:09wasting your time and energy now what
  256. 8:11you can do is improve your upwork
  257. 8:12profile seo which will give you the best
  258. 8:15chance to rank higher in search results
  259. 8:17and also show up in recommendations
  260. 8:19first determine what the common job
  261. 8:20title is for your skill set for me
  262. 8:22that's sql server dba when someone goes
  263. 8:24to upwork and searches for a sql server
  264. 8:26dba i want to show up as high on the
  265. 8:28list as possible then strategically use
  266. 8:30those keywords in your title profile
  267. 8:32overview portfolio testimonials and job
  268. 8:35history and another thing to point out
  269. 8:37when you start winning jobs on upwork
  270. 8:39you definitely want to complete jobs
  271. 8:40that have the same keywords in the job
  272. 8:42title that's going to help you show up
  273. 8:43in recommendations when a client creates
  274. 8:45a new job on upwork and make sure you
  275. 8:47don't keyword stuff use keywords in ways
  276. 8:50that smoothly flow into your profile tip
  277. 8:52number five to help you win jobs on
  278. 8:53upwork is to focus on the client the
  279. 8:55entire reason why client creates a job
  280. 8:58on upwork is to find a freelancer who
  281. 9:00can help them solve a problem or scale
  282. 9:01their business it's your job to show
  283. 9:03them how you can solve their problems
  284. 9:05and showcase examples of your work that
  285. 9:07can help build their confidence and
  286. 9:08trust in you for example before i
  287. 9:10started editing my own youtube videos i
  288. 9:12worked with a talented video editor who
  289. 9:14i hired on upwork and that was actually
  290. 9:16his first ever upwork job so why did i
  291. 9:19hire a new freelancer with no reviews or
  292. 9:21client feedback his upwork profile
  293. 9:23portfolio and cover letter focused on my
  294. 9:25specific problems and offered solutions
  295. 9:27that i wanted he provided great examples
  296. 9:29of videos that he had edited for other
  297. 9:31youtubers and even gave me useful
  298. 9:33recommendations to improve my audio and
  299. 9:35video quality in your profile overview
  300. 9:37and cover letter you need to focus on
  301. 9:39the client and their needs describe how
  302. 9:41they can depend on you how you can free
  303. 9:43up their time and how you can add value
  304. 9:44to their business rather than thinking
  305. 9:46selfishly and focusing on yourself okay
  306. 9:48here's an upward pro tip that most new
  307. 9:50freelancers don't know the first few
  308. 9:52sentences of your cover letter is what
  309. 9:54the client sees first when scrolling
  310. 9:55through the long list of freelancers who
  311. 9:57submitted proposals on their job that's
  312. 9:59why it's so important to make your first
  313. 10:01few sentences stand out and capture the
  314. 10:03client's attention here's a cover letter
  315. 10:05that i recently wrote on upwork which
  316. 10:06helped me win a job that pays 125
  317. 10:08dollars an hour the more focused time
  318. 10:11and effort that you put into upwork the
  319. 10:13more jobs that you will win and the more
  320. 10:14money that you will make the truth is if
  321. 10:16you want to live life on your own terms
  322. 10:18be your own boss and become financially
  323. 10:20free then you have to put in the
  324. 10:22consistent hard work that each of those
  325. 10:23require start doing whatever it takes
  326. 10:26and look inward rather than blaming
  327. 10:28everyone around you for your lack of
  328. 10:29success you are the only person that's
  329. 10:31responsible for your success or lack of
  330. 10:33it starting today accept the
  331. 10:35responsibility and start putting in the
