Gaming On A GTX 1650 Laptop In 2026... — Transcript

- 0:00This right here is the fastest gaming
- 0:02laptop all the way from 2018. Having
- 0:05only a GTX 1650 GPU as well as a 60 Hz
- 0:09refresh rate screen, we're going to be
- 0:11optimizing this laptop to still be crazy
- 0:14in 2026. Okay, so this right here is the
- 0:18gaming laptop and it is definitely the
- 0:20best gaming laptop of all time. I mean,
- 0:22this laptop still outperforms some
- 0:24budget gaming laptops even in 2026.
- 0:27Well, this laptop actually came out all
- 0:29the way back in 2018. So, this is
- 0:31definitely a pretty old gaming laptop.
- 0:33Not to mention, this was a budget gaming
- 0:35laptop for its time. Like, it cost about
- 0:37$599, so it wasn't too expensive. The
- 0:40crazy thing about this budget laptop was
- 0:42that some people actually got this
- 0:44laptop running close to a,000 FPS. I
- 0:46actually have a friend named Cooler who
- 0:48actually got this exact laptop to even
- 0:50about 1,200 FPS about 4 years ago. So,
- 0:54this laptop is definitely super super
- 0:57powerful and it is also a very popular
- 0:59gaming laptop. This gaming laptop is the
- 1:01Acer Nitro 5, which is the 2019 version,
- 1:05which the specs in 2026 aren't the best,
- 1:08but trust me, this laptop is still
- 1:10pretty good. It has a GTX 1650 GPU,
- 1:13which honestly was a pretty popular GPU
- 1:15as well, especially on like budget
- 1:17laptops like this. And then for the CPU,
- 1:19we have an i 9300. Nothing too crazy of
- 1:22an Intel CPU. But the only disadvantage
- 1:25with this gaming laptop in 2026 is
- 1:27definitely the refresh rate. The
- 1:29screen's refresh rate is 60 Hz as well
- 1:31as being a 1080p resolution. So, if you
- 1:34guys are playing on this gaming laptop
- 1:35in 2026, I definitely recommend you guys
- 1:38connect this thing to an external
- 1:39monitor since first off, connecting a
- 1:42gaming laptop to an external monitor, it
- 1:44literally could be any refresh rate,
- 1:45gives you a slight FPS boost of about
- 1:4815%. And then you guys can go ahead and
- 1:50also take advantage of the higher
- 1:51refresh rates coming from this laptop.
- 1:53Since the refresh rate is only 60 Hz,
- 1:55you're only going to be able to see 60
- 1:57fps. But yeah, I want to go ahead and
- 1:59see how good this gaming laptop is in
- 2:012026. And also go ahead and upgrade the
- 2:04RAM inside this laptop since this Nitro
- 2:065 only came with 8 gigs of RAM, which is
- 2:08definitely not enough for gaming in 2026
- 2:11as well. The storage is only also about
- 2:13256 gigs of storage, but it really
- 2:16doesn't matter too much since we're
- 2:17going to be really just testing out
- 2:19Fortnite and Fortnite just takes up all
- 2:21the storage inside of this laptop. Now,
- 2:23like I said, I've seen this gaming
- 2:24laptop actually outperform new gen
- 2:26budget laptops. Talking about gaming
- 2:28laptops with like an RTX 5050, which
- 2:31don't get me wrong, they do have a
- 2:32pretty high refresh rate screen going up
- 2:34to about like 165 hertz, which is just
- 2:37crazy. But I'm not even joking. This
- 2:39laptop from 2019 did actually outperform
- 2:42so many new gen budget gaming laptops.
- 2:45And not to mention, if you guys decide
- 2:46to pick up this gaming laptop in 2026,
- 2:49you guys can definitely get really good
- 2:51deals from this laptop since many people
- 2:53actually upgraded from this laptop. And
- 2:55they're selling this exact laptop on
- 2:57eBay for as low as $230.
- 3:01Like, it's actually crazy how cheap this
- 3:03laptop actually is. Like the specs are
- 3:05definitely very outdated, but for some
- 3:07light 1080p gaming, this laptop
- 3:09definitely still has the potential of
- 3:11running consistently 180 fps. Okay, but
- 3:14taking a look inside of this laptop.
- 3:16I've actually done upgrades on this
- 3:17Nitro 5 before. One huge upgrade I did
- 3:20was on like the cooling fan was broken.
- 3:22So, I did need to buy like an external
- 3:24cooling fan and basically install it.
- 3:26That definitely helped a lot with the
- 3:27temperatures of this laptop as well as
- 3:29the performance. Most importantly, it
- 3:31got rid of this very [music] loud fan
- 3:33noise that was just super annoying that
- 3:36I literally played with for about 3
- 3:38years. And I finally did upgrade that
- 3:40about a year ago. But yeah, this laptop
- 3:42you guys can go ahead and actually
- 3:43upgrade the RAM unlike some modern
- 3:45laptop where the RAM you guys can't
- 3:46actually upgrade and it's basically
- 3:47[music] built inside of like the
- 3:49motherboard. Yeah, we can go ahead and
- 3:50upgrade this laptop which only comes
- 3:52with 8 gigs of DDR4 RAM which I have
- 3:54this 8 gig RAM stick right over here.
- 3:57And just simply upgrading the RAM is
- 3:59actually going to give us an FPS
- 4:00increase as well as having more
- 4:02consistent FPS since we're not going to
- 4:04have to deal with any problems with the
- 4:06game's meshes or whatever since we're
- 4:07only running 8 gigs of RAM. Yeah. Boom.
- 4:09There we go. We upgraded the RAM. And
- 4:11honestly, for a gaming laptop I had for
- 4:13a very long time, I also played with for
- 4:15a very long time as well. The condition
- 4:18of this GTX 1650 laptop is actually
- 4:20still pretty good. I honestly see this
- 4:22laptop still having a few more years in
- 4:25it before it's just completely garbage
- 4:27and can't play any games at all. So,
- 4:29let's go ahead and first see how much
- 4:31FPS we can get on this laptop. And if we
- 4:33need to go ahead and actually optimize
- 4:34it since back then I did optimize this
- 4:37laptop a lot and me personally I did
- 4:39reach about like 800 FPS on this laptop.
- 4:42You guys can go ahead check my older
- 4:43video. This laptop was running like an
- 4:45absolute beast. Okay, so if you guys
- 4:47take a look at the specs of this gaming
- 4:49laptop, we have the 16 gigs of RAM
- 4:52installed on this Nitro 5 now. And you
- 4:54guys can see the CPU is an i5 9300H. We
- 4:58have the GTX 1650 graphics card, and we
- 5:00also have 1 TB of storage that I did
- 5:02also install. Now, usually the refresh
- 5:04rate of this laptop is 60 Hz, but I did
- 5:07overclock the display to 82 herz. And
- 5:10this is what I've actually done before
- 5:12when I used to play on this laptop. I
- 5:14didn't actually play on 60 Hz. I did
- 5:15play on the overclocked version of the
- 5:17refresh rate. So, it definitely makes a
- 5:19huge difference if you guys actually try
- 5:20out 60 Hz versus 82 Hz and I'll even
- 5:23show you guys how to actually do that
- 5:25later on when we actually try to
- 5:26optimize this thing. But first, let's go
- 5:28ahead and just take a look at the
- 5:29performance and FPS we get from this
- 5:31laptop without doing any optimizations,
- 5:33anything to it at all. Okay, now taking
- 5:35a look at the max FPS this laptop can
- 5:37actually get without any optimizations
- 5:39whatsoever. you guys to see why this
- 5:41Acer Nitro 5 laptop is still pretty good
- 5:43in 2026 with the max FPS running close
- 5:46to 240 FPS right now. This is absolutely
- 5:50crazy coming from a laptop that's almost
- 5:528 years old that only has a GTX GPU
- 5:55inside of it as well as only having an
- 5:57Intel Core i5 CPU. Like it definitely
- 6:00runs very consistently about 180 to 190
- 6:04FPS in creative. Yeah, just upgrading
- 6:07the RAM, I do notice a difference in the
- 6:09performance from this laptop. And it's
- 6:12actually not just the performance. I do
- 6:13notice a difference in like the meshes
- 6:15of Fortnite as well. Game honestly looks
- 6:17a lot clearer and just more defined once
- 6:20you actually upgrade the RAM to 16 gigs
- 6:22compared to 8 gigs of RAM where you're
- 6:23going to be getting less FPS as well as
- 6:26the builds as well as like the builds,
- 6:27meshes, and everything just looking less
- 6:30defined and they also take longer to
- 6:32actually load in. But yeah, as I'm
- 6:34building with this laptop right now,
- 6:35we're actually still running about 145
- 6:37to 160 FPS. Like, this laptop is still
- 6:41insanely good. I guarantee you guys
- 6:44can't find a better laptop for under
- 6:46$300 right now that can run FPS as
- 6:48consistent as this laptop right over
- 6:50here. And you guys will know why this
- 6:52laptop was super popular. It is for a
- 6:54good reason. The price of performance
- 6:57coming from this laptop is just so good.
- 6:59And it was crazy that back then I even
- 7:01reached 800 FPS with this laptop with
- 7:03many people also reaching close to a,000
- 7:05FPS. But unfortunately creative is
- 7:07probably like the best part with playing
- 7:08on this laptops. In an actual game the
- 7:10FPS is just so much less consistent
- 7:13which is why I'm going to go ahead and
- 7:14see if I can optimize this thing and
- 7:16just make it so much more playable in
- 7:182026. Since the potential FPS we can get
- 7:20with this laptop is still pretty high.
- 7:23I'm going to go ahead and try to reach a
- 7:25max FPS of about like 300 FPS. That
- 7:28might be a little bit of a stretch, but
- 7:29coming from a laptop who used to could
- 7:31run 800 FPS, it is definitely possible.
- 7:34Even though this is a pretty old laptop
- 7:36still, but so far, just upgrading the
- 7:38RAM for this laptop is a good first
- 7:40step. Since it only comes with 8 gigs of
- 7:42RAM, that was definitely limiting us.
- 7:44And the performance you get with this
- 7:45laptop. Okay, if you guys take a look at
- 7:47the max FPS we're getting in an actual
- 7:49game, we're still running about like 90
- 7:52to 110 FPS, sometimes reaching 120 FPS
- 7:56in an actual game. And this is with the
- 7:58laptop not being optimized at all. So,
- 8:01it definitely still runs pretty decent
- 8:03without being optimized. This is just
- 8:05raw power coming from the laptop still.
- 8:07And even though the FPS is just so much
- 8:10like less consistent. All right, you're
- 8:12dead, bro. You're dead, bro.
- 8:16Get him out of here. Nice. Oh, he's
- 8:18right over here. Oh crap, I'm dead. I'm
- 8:19dead. FPS is definitely less consistent
- 8:22in an actual game with us running only
- 8:24about like 85 to 90 FPS. Like right
- 8:28there, we got a frame drop all of a
- 8:29sudden for no reason as well. But
- 8:31honestly, for a laptop that definitely
- 8:33pretty old and was a budget gaming
- 8:36laptop, it still runs without being
- 8:38optimized pretty decent. Like a lot of
- 8:40laptops nowadays, I'm pretty sure they
- 8:43can't even run as good.
- 8:53Correct. 200. There we go. A lot of
- 8:55budget gaming laptops nowadays that are
- 8:58maybe like double the price of this
- 8:59laptop don't even run as good as this
- 9:02laptop. So, even without being
- 9:04optimized, this laptop runs consistently
- 9:05about 95 fps, which is still above the
- 9:09refresh rate of this gaming laptop,
- 9:11which usually the screen's only 60 Hz. I
- 9:14did go ahead and actually overclock it,
- 9:15but the FPS is definitely very different
- 9:18in an actual game [music] compared to
- 9:19what we got in creative for sure. Right
- 9:21there, we got a frame drop. But yeah,
- 9:23I'm pretty sure I can go ahead and
- 9:25optimize this thing to be like so much
- 9:27better. Like literally so much Okay,
- 9:30crack. There we go.
- 9:34Get him out of here. Get him out of
- 9:36here. There we go. I see him. Hold on. I
- 9:38see him. I see another dude. Hold on.
- 9:41Where's this guy?
- 9:44Cracked.
- 9:48200. There we go. Okay, just fighting
- 9:50that guy, we definitely dropped down to
- 9:53about like 70 FPS. Get me out. So, when
- 9:57you actually get into a fight, the
- 9:58frames do start to drop.
- 10:02crack
- 10:05200. There we go. Okay, the frames did
- 10:08drop down to like 61 FPS from what I
- 10:11saw. So, like I said, the FPS is
- 10:13definitely not as consistent in an
- 10:15actual game, but I definitely think we
- 10:17can go ahead and optimize this thing to
- 10:19run so much better. Like, I've seen this
- 10:21thing run way better before. So, even
- 10:24though it's still pretty old, I'm pretty
- 10:26sure I can go ahead and get this thing
- 10:27to run at least consistently
- 10:30120 FPS in an actual game. That is what
- 10:33the goal is. But so far, we're only
- 10:35running about like 80 FPS consistently
- 10:37without this thing being optimized,
- 10:39which isn't like the worst. Like, it can
- 10:41definitely get a lot worse than this,
- 10:43especially with this laptop being as old
- 10:45as it is. So, I'm honestly pretty
- 10:47surprised it's holding up pretty well.
- 10:50Get him out of there. There we go. And
- 10:52definitely if we didn't upgrade the RAM,
- 10:54the frame drops would be a lot worse. So
- 10:57definitely upgrade the RAM on this
- 10:59thing. No way. I just started missing.
- 11:02All right, [music] let's see if we can
- 11:02get into a fight. And hopefully the
- 11:04frames don't drop too much. 200. There
- 11:07we go. Our frames are definitely going
- 11:09to drop a lot over here. There's someone
- 11:11right over here. I can't edit
- 11:17200. There we go. Oh my. Oh my. Oh my.
- 11:21Let's go. I can definitely still run
- 11:23this thing pretty good without it
- 11:25actually being optimized. Like the
- 11:27laptop is still definitely running very
- 11:29solid, especially for 1080p gaming like
- 11:31we are right now. Oh my Oh
- 11:37my Let's go get him out of there. I
- 11:39actually thought it would be a lot
- 11:41worse. I'm not going to lie. Oh my god.
- 11:43Oh my. Yo, my builds won't place. My
- 11:45builds won't place. There's someone down
- 11:47here.
- 11:50There we go. There we go. There we go. I
- 11:51need the medkit. There we go. Nice.
- 11:54Definitely frame drops. Just fighting
- 11:55that guy right out of the bat. So,
- 11:57hopefully optimizing this thing could
- 11:59fix all those problems. That's like the
- 12:01number one problem with this laptop. And
- 12:03the only thing that's really stopping me
- 12:05from like playing on this laptop in
- 12:062026. Like the max FPS is really good,
- 12:09but it's definitely not consistent. The
- 12:11laptop is definitely not as consistent
- 12:12[music] as you think. Wait, this guy's
- 12:14landing in
- 12:16200. There we go. Get him out of here.
- 12:18There's fighting up here. I missed.
- 12:22Go, go, go, go, go, go, go. There's
- 12:23another guy. There's so much people.
- 12:27There's so much people. 40. I'm dead.
- 12:31I'm dead. I'm dead. I'm dead. I'm dead.
- 12:33Hold on. Hold on. Hold on. Let me heal.
- 12:35Please do not get frame drops. That's
- 12:37all we need right now. Just don't get a
- 12:38frame drop and we live. Wait, there's
- 12:40loot down here. I need this. Please give
- 12:42me a medkit. Why is my builds not
- 12:43placing? I need a medkit. Come on.
- 12:45Where's the medkits at? No way. Chill,
- 12:48chill, chill, chill, chill.
- 12:50Loot in here, please. No way. How is it
- 12:53this hard to find a med kit, man? All
- 12:54right, we're still running about like 85
- 12:58to 90 FPS right now, which it's been
- 13:01pretty consistently running about like
- 13:0380 FPS the entire game. Should I push
- 13:06this guy? No, no, no. We can't push him.
- 13:07We can't push him. Hold on. Just get me
- 13:09out. I can't push [music] him yet. What
- 13:10am I doing, bro? That's not even the
- 13:12right way. Hold on. I see him. I can't
- 13:15get no damage in. Hold on. Oh my god. I
- 13:18could have hit that. I could have hit
- 13:19that for sure. Peek, peek, peek, peek,
- 13:22peek, peek, peek. No way. I got like no
- 13:26mobility. That's my problem right now.
- 13:28There we go. There we go. We got it. We
- 13:29got it. All right, we're going up. We
- 13:31going up, man. We going up. Where these
- 13:33people at? Hit that. Where's this guy?
- 13:35Is he below me? Yeah, he's below me. He
- 13:38dropped down somewhere. He ran away.
- 13:40Let's go. Let's go. Let's go. Let's go.
- 13:42Let's go. Let's go. Let's go. Let's go.
- 13:43We going over here. Nice. Nice. Nice.
- 13:45Nice. Nice. Four people left. Running
- 13:47about 110 FPS right now. Still some
- 13:52pretty solid FPS. Nothing too crazy.
- 13:55This guy's probably going to push me.
- 13:56No, he's not. [music] All right, let's
- 13:58go. Let's go. I missed. All good. All
- 14:00right, they're all fighting over there.
- 14:02I'm not sure if there's someone down
- 14:04here. There is.
- 14:0736.
- 14:13Oh, he is one shot. 200. There we go.
- 14:16Get me back up. He doesn't know. We're
- 14:18good. We're good. We're good. I'm
- 14:20lagging. What the Okay.
- 14:26I miss
- 14:2940 [music] 16. We got height. No way I'm
- 14:32about to win this. No way with these
- 14:34frame drops. We got height. We're good.
- 14:44I miss. I missed.
- 14:47No way. No way. I lost that. There's no
- 14:50way I missed my shot.
- 14:53Okay, let's see how good we can get this
- 14:54laptop to run by doing some
- 14:56optimizations onto it now. Okay, so I'm
- 14:58going to be seeing if I could do the
- 15:00same optimizations I've actually done
- 15:01back then on this laptop to get the 800
- 15:04FPS I used to. And the first thing I
- 15:06really want to do is just update the
- 15:08drivers for this laptop. You guys can
- 15:10see I don't even have the most upto-date
- 15:12drivers. So, let's go ahead and first
- 15:13just download that. All right, let's go
- 15:15ahead and run some quick Windows
- 15:16settings. First off being the graphics
- 15:18settings. These are kind of like the
- 15:19go-to settings I ran with back then to
- 15:22optimize this laptop. So, let's go ahead
- 15:23and see if it still helps. In the
- 15:25graphics preference, we're going to go
- 15:26ahead and find Fortnite. You guys can go
- 15:28ahead and add in Fortnite if you guys
- 15:29don't see it. Go into options and we're
- 15:31going to go ahead and select high
- 15:32performance where you guys can see it is
- 15:34on our GPU, the GTX 1650. Let's go ahead
- 15:37and save that. Next up, we can go ahead
- 15:39and go into our power options. And I did
- 15:41just realize that this laptop is still
- 15:42running Windows 10. So any updates with
- 15:45Windows 10 has been discontinued. I
- 15:47should probably upgrade this laptop to
- 15:48Windows 11. But let's go ahead and
- 15:50create a power plan. Select high
- 15:51performance. Press on next. Select all
- 15:53these on never. And we should be running
- 15:56on its highest performance now for this
- 15:58laptop. So we're not going to like
- 16:00preserve any energy or anything like
- 16:02that from our battery. All right. Let's
- 16:03make sure all like the game modes and
- 16:05everything are turned on. Okay, we have
- 16:07game mode on, but you guys want to make
- 16:09sure to have game bar off. Next, let's
- 16:11go ahead adjust the appearance and
- 16:12performance of Windows where I'm going
- 16:15to go ahead and just select adjust for
- 16:16best performance [music] and click on
- 16:19show thumbnails instead of icons and
- 16:21smooth edges on screen font.
- 16:24This is basically going to transform
- 16:25Windows to kind of look a little bit
- 16:26uglier, but nothing too crazy, but it
- 16:28should give you just a slight
- 16:30performance boost. All right, let's go
- 16:31ahead and go into Nvidia Control Panel
- 16:33now. And what I want to actually do on
- 16:36this is just set our preference
- 16:37emphasizing on straight performance.
- 16:40Now, usually I would say go use your 3D
- 16:42settings, but on this laptop and
- 16:44especially back then, I literally just
- 16:46set this bar all the way to performance.
- 16:48So, your game might look a little bit
- 16:50different for sure, but it's going to
- 16:52give you an FPS boost since you're
- 16:53literally just preferring performance
- 16:56over quality of your game. So, let's go
- 16:58ahead apply that. And the next Nvidia
- 17:01thing is going into the Nvidia app. And
- 17:03what's really cool about this new app
- 17:05compared to like GeForce Experience,
- 17:06which I only had back then with this
- 17:08laptop, is we can go ahead and use
- 17:10Nvidia apps advanced overclocking
- 17:13settings. So, if we go into performance,
- 17:15you guys can see all these performance
- 17:17stats for our GPU. And we can go ahead
- 17:19and just select automatic tuning, which
- 17:21automatically finds the best overclock
- 17:23settings for our GPU, which normally
- 17:25would be pretty hard since you guys need
- 17:27to go on the internet and find all these
- 17:29settings and manually do it. But the
- 17:31Nvidia app definitely helps with that by
- 17:33giving us the best settings to overclock
- 17:35the GPU. So, definitely super helpful
- 17:37and will definitely give us a
- 17:39performance boost. The next tool I used
- 17:41on this laptop is the Ultimate Windows
- 17:43Utility. This is kind of outdated from
- 17:452022 now, but we can go ahead and still
- 17:48use this by running this command for
- 17:50PowerShell. So, go ahead and run
- 17:53PowerShell as an administrator. Paste in
- 17:56the command just like that. And we
- 17:58should open up the one tool for
- 18:00everything from Chris Titus. Boom. Just
- 18:03like that. And we can go ahead and just
- 18:04go into tweaks. And you guys can see we
- 18:06have a ton of tweaks here. But usually
- 18:08what I did is just click on standard.
- 18:10Back then, they actually had recommended
- 18:12selections for laptops versus desktops,
- 18:14but I guess they just removed that. So,
- 18:16let's just go ahead and use all these
- 18:18standard tweaks. Once you press on
- 18:20tweaks, you guys will see in the
- 18:21background, it's just going to run all
- 18:22these tweaks while creating a system
- 18:24restore for you. So, this is completely
- 18:26safe, and this is usually where I got my
- 18:29most FPS boost. So, this Chris Titus
- 18:31tool is definitely super helpful,
- 18:34especially on low-end and budget
- 18:36laptops. And once all the tweaks are
- 18:38finished, it will show in the PowerShell
- 18:40just like that. And we also removed so
- 18:42many disc space. So, we have a lot of
- 18:44free space now. And that honestly wasn't
- 18:46too many tweaks. But let's go ahead and
- 18:48just see if we even got a performance
- 18:50boost from Fortnite first. Hopefully, we
- 18:52got at least like 30 to 40 FPS increase
- 18:55and more consistent FPS. Now, now after
- 18:57optimizing this laptop, the max FPS, you
- 19:00guys can see, is definitely much better
- 19:02with the max FPS going up to about 260
- 19:06to 270 FPS. So, we definitely did get
- 19:08about like a 40 FPS increase. Now, if
- 19:11you guys take a look at how consistent
- 19:13FPS is now, it's definitely pretty much
- 19:16more consistent with us running
- 19:17consistently about 220 to 230 FPS. Now,
- 19:21there definitely still is slight frame
- 19:23drops here and there down to about like
- 19:25190 FPS, but it's definitely not as
- 19:27worse as before. So, let me know in the
- 19:29comments if you guys think this laptop
- 19:31is still good in 2026.
- 19:33Let's go, bro. GG's.
