  14. 1:35political commentary columnist author
  15. 1:38and of course a lawyer he graduated from
  16. 1:41UCLA and then attended Harvard Law
  17. 1:44School graduated in 2007 he actually

  38. 2:38written two books and

  127. 14:30[Music]
  128. 14:32thank you so much
  129. 14:35I only wish the administration
  130. 14:42[Applause]
  131. 14:51[Music]
  132. 15:05[Applause]
  133. 15:24[Music]
  134. 15:25[Applause]
  135. 15:29[Music]
  136. 15:31thanks to the police
  137. 15:35[Applause]
  138. 15:59[Music]
  139. 16:24[Music]
  140. 16:31so I have a few other thank-yous I want
  141. 16:33to say thank you to see more on put up
  142. 16:35at that sign across the way it says we
  143. 16:38say no to your white supremacist
  144. 16:39[ __ ] well I say thank you because I
  145. 16:42also say knows whose white supremacist
  146. 16:44[ __ ]
  147. 16:47and if you stick around long enough in
  148. 16:49this seat you will hear me do exactly
  149. 16:51that the problem is I also say no it's
  150. 16:53your identity politics culture thanks to
  151. 17:00aunt Eva and these supposed anti-fascist
  152. 17:02forgave for exposing what the radical
  153. 17:04left truly is all of America is watching
  154. 17:06because you guys are so stupid it's
  155. 17:09horrifying
  156. 17:10I am grateful and you can all go to hell
  157. 17:12you're pathetic lying stupid jackasses
  158. 17:21the same goes for the mayor of the city
  159. 17:23who suggest as an Antipa occasionally to
  160. 17:25give him free rein over the city in the
  161. 17:27end and the Conservatives should go home
  162. 17:29because we wouldn't want to provoke
  163. 17:30violence I do want to actually thank
  164. 17:32administration for making the effort to
  165. 17:34put on this is that tonight there were a
  166. 17:36lot of obstacles they'll talk about the
  167. 17:37obstacles a little bit but they did
  168. 17:39attempt to make the effort and they did
  169. 17:40unshackle the police to actually protect
  170. 17:43this so thank you to the administration
  171. 17:44for doing them for this event and that
  172. 17:55it's not to to me I mean I'm not the one
  173. 17:56out threatening to break windows it's
  174. 17:57not due to you you're here listening
  175. 17:58it's due to the antifa hard left morons
  176. 18:01are out there breaking windows and I do
  177. 18:03want to say one thing which is that in a
  178. 18:05city has left is Berkeley if you're
  179. 18:07gonna blame me for the six hundred
  180. 18:08thousand dollars in spending on security
  181. 18:09you're Athenians think of all the jobs
  182. 18:12that just creating it now this lecture
  183. 18:17is titled say no to campus Sudbury
  184. 18:19that's the title of the lecture because
  185. 18:20of Antipa and the wave of violence that
  186. 18:22has engulfed this campus since its
  187. 18:24earlier this year I spoke here last year
  188. 18:25some you may remember I was here last
  189. 18:27year I spoken like February 2016 here
  190. 18:31packed house I have two security guards
  191. 18:33and that was it no violence is no
  192. 18:35nothing and now we're
  193. 18:37well into six figures so that I can say
  194. 18:40many of the same things it's utterly
  195. 18:43absurd it's utterly absurd but things
  196. 18:46have changed well why have they changed
  197. 18:48it's because there's no movement arising
  198. 18:50of all over the country from Sacramento
  199. 18:51to Berkeley to Dallas to Charlottesville
  200. 18:53and that movement says that speech is
  201. 18:55violence and must be treated as such
  202. 18:58this is grooves like refusing ashes
  203. 19:00double gets to be all right later
  204. 19:01this is groups like refused a schism
  205. 19:03which is professes to promote protests
  206. 19:05but it's actually said it won't rule out
  207. 19:06working with groups like NCBI here is
  208. 19:09it's posted earlier about me is not
  209. 19:22because these hands this is no [ __ ] if
  210. 19:24you're the problem is not chemistry the
  211. 19:26problem is fascist intellectual bubbler
  212. 19:28in the service of the Trump pense
  213. 19:30fascist regime well to believe this you
  214. 19:34have to have your head so far up your
  215. 19:35ass you can actually see your colon
  216. 19:37firsthand let's define a few terms first
  217. 19:40of all just intellectually what exactly
  218. 19:44is - what was the term by people who
  219. 19:46have never read a book is the phenomenon
  220. 19:50whereby people believe but they have the
  221. 19:53capacity to RAM their beliefs down your
  222. 19:54throat at the point to the gun or say
  223. 19:57the point to the baton or by throwing
  224. 19:59Molotov cocktails
  225. 20:00that's what fascism truly especially is
  226. 20:03even more of a tactic than it is an
  227. 20:04ideology it's sort of vague in terms of
  228. 20:05ideology you've had any bar on the left
  229. 20:07for fascist and people like Stalin and
  230. 20:09then you've had people who are on
  231. 20:10European right like Hitler who's fascist
  232. 20:12who's actually closer to the traditional
  233. 20:15American weapon it would be to their
  234. 20:17traditional American
  235. 20:18but I've been spending my entire careers
  236. 20:20dancing against - this is the idea of an
  237. 20:22overreaching government that uses the
  238. 20:24power of the gun in order to compel
  239. 20:25people to do what they want and teach by
  240. 20:28the statutes I am NOT a fascist and as
  241. 20:31far as the fascist regime first of all
  242. 20:37look at the protests outside where it's
  243. 20:40orange people are shutting it down right
  244. 20:42he's nowhere to be found this idea that
  245. 20:44we're living in a batch mr. country
  246. 20:45we're actually living under a relatively
  247. 20:46ineffectual relatively ineffective
  248. 20:48administration if anything but the idea
  249. 20:50that we're living in some sort of
  250. 20:51fascist dystopia is utterly absurd as
  251. 20:55far as the idea that you know I'm a
  252. 20:57white supremacist in service to Trump
  253. 20:59ends couple problems there one as far as
  254. 21:01these services Trump ends again for
  255. 21:05Trump or Hillary either of them actually
  256. 21:09so this idea that I am somehow a servant
  257. 21:12of Trump is absurd and requires you to
  258. 21:14be functionally illiterate as far as the
  259. 21:16idea of a white supremacist you see the
  260. 21:17thing on the top of my head right it's
  261. 21:20funny how all the yarmulke in white
  262. 21:22supremacists aren't that fond of it
  263. 21:24which is why I was reporting to the
  264. 21:26anti-defamation league the number one
  265. 21:27recipient of white supremacist
  266. 21:30anti-semitism on the internet among
  267. 21:32journalists in 2016 but no I'm a white
  268. 21:34supremacist named because ooh the way
  269. 21:36the Left borders right if you don't
  270. 21:37agree with them everyone's a white
  271. 21:38supremacist you're not see not you
  272. 21:39should be punched and therefore it's
  273. 21:41totally fine to stand outside and try to
  274. 21:43shut down event if you can get away with
  275. 21:45it they're not getting away with it
  276. 21:46tonight the police is the nail out to
  277. 21:48actually do their
  278. 21:53so what is their specific objection to
  279. 21:55me well according to this masterfully
  280. 21:57done poster it says Shapiro is coming to
  281. 21:59campus to spread batches of used dressed
  282. 22:02up in slick-talking intellectuals are I
  283. 22:04do like this slick-talking this is
  284. 22:08harmful exclamation point he along with
  285. 22:10batches of many stripes have targeted
  286. 22:12Berkeley because reversing these radical
  287. 22:14history would be a major advantage for
  288. 22:16the consolidation of fascism on campuses
  289. 22:18everywhere and throughout society the
  290. 22:21reason I'm here is a lot the reasons
  291. 22:22that I am here is because - Lisa does
  292. 22:25not own this university because there
  293. 22:27are students who do want to hear
  294. 22:29different views who don't want to be
  295. 22:31told that they didn't only hear one of
  296. 22:33you who don't believe that the First
  297. 22:35Amendment should die under the jackfruit
  298. 22:37and Birkenstocks of a bunch of anarchist
  299. 22:39communist pieces of garbage
  300. 22:47but I don't just want to talk about the
  301. 22:49people who actually get violent because
  302. 22:50I think it's in the civil society this
  303. 22:52is one thing we should all agree on and
  304. 22:53I've been pleased to see that even
  305. 22:54people like Nancy Pelosi have condemned
  306. 22:56auntie Nancy Pelosi system I disagree
  307. 22:59upon literally never eat if she would as
  308. 23:00possible to disagree on including the
  309. 23:03proper use of Botox but she and I agree
  310. 23:05on this well agree that violence should
  311. 23:08be out of balance and if you're on the
  312. 23:09left and you don't agree with that let
  313. 23:11me suggest to you that you don't belong
  314. 23:12living in a civilized society because
  315. 23:14civilized society is based on the
  316. 23:16premise that the government has a
  317. 23:17monopoly on the legitimate use of sports
  318. 23:19max payable put it and the idea that
  319. 23:20you're supposed to violate that if you
  320. 23:22don't like what I'm saying makes you so
  321. 23:23uncivilized barbarian okay but it's not
  322. 23:25just that I want to talk about okay I
  323. 23:26want to talk about an ideology that goes
  324. 23:28a little bit deeper than that and
  325. 23:29something to go anywhere without an
  326. 23:32ideology that runs broader than entities
  327. 23:34without a group of people willing to
  328. 23:36look the other way well what is the view
  329. 23:39that undergirds and what's the what's
  330. 23:41the view be Thunderbirds D hard left as
  331. 23:43many approve celebrate an see for we're
  332. 23:45doing so until it became politically
  333. 23:46unpalatable to do so
  334. 23:48it's his view that America is a terrible
  335. 23:50horrible no good very bad place right
  336. 23:52now the truth is in America is an
  337. 23:54incredible place it's the greatest place
  338. 23:56in the history of the world it is the
  339. 23:57freest most prosperous country most
  340. 23:59powerin country in the history of planet
  341. 24:01Earth
  342. 24:03this country is an incredible place full
  343. 24:05of opportunity nobody by and large cares
  344. 24:07enough about you to stop you from
  345. 24:09achieving your dreams that includes you
  346. 24:11people who are shouting out there in the
  347. 24:13audience
  348. 24:14okay no one cares about you get over
  349. 24:17yourselves I don't care about you no one
  350. 24:19cares about you no one's trying to stop
  351. 24:21you because you're irrelevant to me I
  352. 24:23have a wife and two children I care
  353. 24:24about them and I don't care about you
  354. 24:26you don't mean anything to me except for
  355. 24:30that kind of city loves me I love that
  356. 24:31thank you but everybody else okay that
  357. 24:36means in a free country if you fail it
  358. 24:38is probably your own fault if it is
  359. 24:39somebody else's fault if somebody is
  360. 24:42actually trying to throw obstacles in
  361. 24:44front of you in a way that is unjust and
  362. 24:46bigoted point out the specific instance
  363. 24:48so we can evolve side with you we've all
  364. 24:51want to be on the same side we all want
  365. 24:53to help out when somebody is a racist is
  366. 24:55trying to stop you all want to sound off
  367. 24:57and stop that to the idea however that
  368. 25:00America as a whole owns your failure
  369. 25:02when you can't point to specific
  370. 25:03problems does not walk it is you
  371. 25:06shifting about that it's a waste of time
  372. 25:09and energies lending your failures on
  373. 25:10the system unless he's got some evidence
  374. 25:12but unfortunately on college campuses
  375. 25:14and from web more broadly there's been
  376. 25:16this notion that America is bad and the
  377. 25:18reason he failed is because America has
  378. 25:20historically been a very bad right this
  379. 25:22is the identity politics is allowed
  380. 25:23because America is bad in that it
  381. 25:26targets America target sees we have an
  382. 25:28entire hierarchy of intersectionality
  383. 25:30that's been built by the left to tell
  384. 25:32you whether your reviews are legitimate
  385. 25:33or not we the more victimized drive the
  386. 25:35more legitimate your views so something
  387. 25:38like the people whose views are most
  388. 25:40valuable and
  389. 25:40in those six months is very topper
  390. 25:42people where LGBT and then you get black
  391. 25:44people and then you get women and then
  392. 25:46you get this down a feeding and then you
  393. 25:47get Native Americans and then and then
  394. 25:49it's to choose maybe by Masons maybe
  395. 25:51Jews been a schism very very bottom you
  396. 25:54get straight white males right those are
  397. 25:55the people who have nothing to say about
  398. 25:57anything because obviously they're the
  399. 25:59beneficiaries of this is white privilege
  400. 26:01system now the logics of
  401. 26:03intersectionality because the value of
  402. 26:06your opinion lies in your identity your
  403. 26:09group identity the idea is that if I
  404. 26:12attack your ideas if I say that you have
  405. 26:14bad ideas what I'm really doing is just
  406. 26:16asking you personally I'm really
  407. 26:18attacking your identity I'm addressing
  408. 26:20you you might look quite counseling
  409. 26:22right this is the philosophy of
  410. 26:24microaggressions my words are violence
  411. 26:27even turn microaggressions suggest that
  412. 26:29it is an aggression against red
  413. 26:30microaggressions I'm addressing you it's
  414. 26:32enacted violence as NYU social
  415. 26:34psychologist Jonathan heightened said
  416. 26:35microaggressions are small actions as
  417. 26:37the word choices that's the mother faces
  418. 26:39have no malicious intent but that are
  419. 26:41thought of is its kind of violence is on
  420. 26:42the west the thing is you don't actually
  421. 26:44have to intend to abandon you want to
  422. 26:46make progress they just have to deal
  423. 26:48offended and the thing is that
  424. 26:50microaggressions are actual violence
  425. 26:51this is why you see the the jolts
  426. 26:53outside shouting with speeches violence
  427. 26:55because they think that I'm actually
  428. 26:56doing them violence when they don't hear
  429. 26:58me right with me but if they would hear
  430. 27:00me then presumably I'll be doing them
  431. 27:02violence and they would mean counseling
  432. 27:03and interact with violence it's because
  433. 27:05it's in response and unfortunately this
  434. 27:07university engage is precise to the
  435. 27:09business sort of damaging entities at
  436. 27:10the same time they're willing to allow
  437. 27:12the police to finances but they're
  438. 27:13fostering an attitude that says that
  439. 27:15certain types of speech are violence
  440. 27:17which is the gas in the tank from groups
  441. 27:19like Antigua it's the gas in the tank
  442. 27:21for the hard work now before my arrival
  443. 27:24the university obviously put in place
  444. 27:25all sorts of security measures to stop
  445. 27:27people from getting back which is great
  446. 27:28but they also put out a letter and the
  447. 27:31literature
  448. 27:32and here's what it says it says that I
  449. 27:35was a threat because they were going to
  450. 27:37offer coca support and counseling
  451. 27:38services for students staff and faculty
  452. 27:41we are deeply concerned about the impact
  453. 27:44some speakers made head-on individual
  454. 27:46sense of safety belonging
  455. 27:48no one should be made to feel threatened
  456. 27:51or harassed simply because of who they
  457. 27:52are or what they believe for that reason
  458. 27:58the following support services are being
  459. 28:00offered and encouraged and they offer
  460. 28:02employees support services as a student
  461. 28:04support services
  462. 28:05you see I'm asking your identity we
  463. 28:08disagree about politics and you may
  464. 28:09require councils by the way just side
  465. 28:11note if you require counseling because
  466. 28:12of this speech let me suggest to you
  467. 28:14that was a mistake for you to have
  468. 28:16forgone psychiatric treatment long ago I
  469. 28:20know I'm super scary I know look
  470. 28:24everyone knows the truth is I think
  471. 28:31you're big boys and girls you can
  472. 28:32probably handle it
  473. 28:33I assume you're not a bunch of weaklings
  474. 28:34in panties and snowflakes that may not
  475. 28:36be a fair assumption but I will assume
  476. 28:37it for the sake of this argument I
  477. 28:39assume you can handle disagreement if in
  478. 28:42fact you cannot handle this agreement
  479. 28:43you are making your life part and you're
  480. 28:45making your life worse and you're making
  481. 28:46the country worse you're driving
  482. 28:48political polarization by failing to
  483. 28:50engage on a level of discussion as you
  484. 28:53know we're going to do Q&A after this
  485. 28:54and I love taking questions my paper
  486. 28:56today which is you disagree with me you
  487. 28:58raise your hand you go to the front of
  488. 28:59the line because the discussion makes
  489. 29:01this country better
  490. 29:01but you feeling insulted and then
  491. 29:04whining about it and then suggesting
  492. 29:08that you're a victim without evidence
  493. 29:10and that I have victimized you because I
  494. 29:11won't accept your victimhood
  495. 29:12this makes the country a worse place so
  496. 29:15I want to go briefly through a couple of
  497. 29:16the intersectional hire even feel
  498. 29:18they're victims in there
  499. 29:19Seiden explain why you are not infected
  500. 29:21by aids take control of your own life
  501. 29:23and become an adult so let's start with
  502. 29:26the idea that poor people in America are
  503. 29:29victimized and this is sort of the
  504. 29:31Bernie Sanders case and come and
  505. 29:32apologize about evil byzantium escape
  506. 29:34communism our anarchism would be a
  507. 29:36better solution than say a free and
  508. 29:38civil society that's raised tap the
  509. 29:39world not about their poverty income
  510. 29:42inequality is not big problem
  511. 29:43nobody rich is making you poor Bill
  512. 29:46Gates does not make you poor providing a
  513. 29:49product that is your fault the upper
  514. 30:09mobility
  515. 30:17[Music]
  516. 30:34we all are
  517. 31:45[Music]
  518. 32:18[Applause]
  519. 32:27but what about racism 71% to support
  520. 32:30families whose children are on there the
  521. 32:32poverty rate among non married white
  522. 32:34families was 26 percent diseases that
  523. 32:37seen here at the poverty rate among the
  524. 32:39black married couples was seven percent
  525. 32:41but what happened to racism why weren't
  526. 32:43those black married couples toward this
  527. 32:45is white is the color it has with life
  528. 32:48decisions and we can talk about the
  529. 32:53basic rule is the police are not going
  530. 32:58around rusty black people for the
  531. 33:01fundamental which is why the number of
  532. 33:04rewards
  533. 33:27[Music]
  534. 33:34[Applause]
  535. 33:51women are significant women make 8% more
  536. 34:03money than men do in their peer group
  537. 34:06that wage gap is growing not shrinking
  538. 34:08at college 255 persistence women
  539. 34:11encountered women it is getting larger
  540. 34:1258% of all branches and periods go to
  541. 34:15women the majority of voters are women
  542. 34:18if you've ever living in a place where
  543. 34:20women are vastly mixed by I really like
  544. 34:22to see that place and as far as this
  545. 34:24idea that there's a rape epidemic going
  546. 34:26on on campus every rape as I have said a
  547. 34:28thousand times it's every rape should be
  548. 34:29dealt with by the prosecution of the
  549. 34:31rapists ending with their jailing
  550. 34:33castration or death okay that's how I
  551. 34:35feel about rape
  552. 34:39this nonsense statistic that's been
  553. 34:41presented at one-in-five limit on
  554. 34:43college campuses being raped it's just
  555. 34:44not true it's just not true the actual
  556. 34:46statistic according to the Department of
  557. 34:47Justice is something like one in every
  558. 34:4858 obviously far too high but not one in
  559. 34:51five if we were one in five by the way
  560. 34:53if you're a woman at this campus you
  561. 34:54should go to your parents and ask them
  562. 34:56what kind of nuts they are to send you
  563. 34:57in a war zone where you're likely to be
  564. 34:58raped okay how about the idea that gays
  565. 35:04and lesbians are really living under the
  566. 35:06boot of American society well in terms
  567. 35:07of income they certainly aren't okay
  568. 35:09it's certainly not in terms of income
  569. 35:11women and lesbian couples make far more
  570. 35:12money than women in straight couples do
  571. 35:14men and gay couples make slightly less
  572. 35:16than men in straight couples but same
  573. 35:17sex couples with both partners in the
  574. 35:19labor force make eight thousand dollars
  575. 35:21more per year than straight couples and
  576. 35:22they are typically higher educated okay
  577. 35:24so that talks about the identity
  578. 35:25politics this intersectional hierarchy
  579. 35:27of the left but there's another group
  580. 35:28that engages the night density politics
  581. 35:30that I want to talk about now and it's
  582. 35:31the battle between the identity politics
  583. 35:33is the left and the identity politics of
  584. 35:35the so-called all right that is really
  585. 35:36making the country a significantly worse
  586. 35:38place and it needs to stop now because
  587. 35:40it is utter and complete horrible
  588. 35:41[ __ ] the first thing to know this
  589. 35:48notion that the all right is actually
  590. 35:49concerned as nonsense let me define what
  591. 35:51I mean by alright because not everybody
  592. 35:52who likes peppy means or harambe means
  593. 35:54is a member of the alright okay not
  594. 35:56everybody that the left says is alright
  595. 35:58is actually all right I mean the left
  596. 35:59calls me alright which is patently
  597. 36:00insane
  598. 36:01I mean you legitimately have to have a
  599. 36:03screw loose to call me alright I spend
  600. 36:06half my career attacking the organ
  601. 36:07okay what is the all right to the
  602. 36:09alt-right are a group of people who
  603. 36:10believe that ideology and ethnicity are
  604. 36:12inextricably intertwined just like the
  605. 36:14identity politics
  606. 36:32this has no there were not particularly
  607. 37:29freedom personal responsibility
  608. 37:31separation of powers god-given rights
  609. 37:34protected by a government elected with
  610. 37:35the consensus of these are values
  611. 37:37Western civilization but the author
  612. 37:39right actually overtly rejects these
  613. 37:41ideas they say the Constitution is
  614. 37:42outmoded that it doesn't work this is a
  615. 37:44government for white people is necessary
  616. 37:46and good because you can't assimilate
  617. 37:47people to still call the white culture
  618. 37:49they came out with neo-nazis because a
  619. 37:51lot of them actually believe some of the
  620. 37:52same things that they may own Otzi's
  621. 37:53believe white supremacy now let's be
  622. 37:56straight about this is like ten thousand
  623. 37:57people across the country this is not a
  624. 37:59million people it's not ten million
  625. 38:00people this is not 63 million people is
  626. 38:02not 200 million deplorable it's a very
  627. 38:05small select group of absolutely
  628. 38:07terrible people who believe in
  629. 38:08absolutely terrible things but they're
  630. 38:10getting a lot of attention in coverage
  631. 38:11right now because we live in a
  632. 38:12reactionary moment a lot of the people
  633. 38:14are reacting to the identity politics is
  634. 38:17left by making nice with the alright
  635. 38:18there's this weird notion on the right
  636. 38:20if you drink left is yours that's enough
  637. 38:22right drinking what this year's no
  638. 38:24Sophie all right so soft what they're
  639. 38:25fine hey you actually have to stand it
  640. 38:35is not enough to stand against and
  641. 38:37ideologies you must also stand for a
  642. 38:39good ideology you must stand for a good
  643. 38:42philosophy okay you cannot stand with
  644. 38:45the bad people just because you think
  645. 38:47those bad people make your enemies privy
  646. 38:49have any of your enemy in a country's
  647. 38:50we're we're also supposed to be friends
  648. 38:51is not only bad strategy it destroys
  649. 38:53this country goals so how do we solve
  650. 39:00all this right we're on campus and we're
  651. 39:01hearing the identity politics it's the
  652. 39:03left and then you watch the news you see
  653. 39:04identity politics see all right how do
  654. 39:06you solve all of this well the way that
  655. 39:08you solve all of this first of all it's
  656. 39:10different chemistry the way you solve
  657. 39:11all that is by letting the police use
  658. 39:12their brandished hey administrators need
  659. 39:14to let the police do their jobs none of
  660. 39:17this would have gone anywhere if back in
  661. 39:19February when Milo like significantly
  662. 39:21just like when Milo came to see if
  663. 39:23they'd not if they had allowed the
  664. 39:25police to do their jobs and arrests
  665. 39:26everyone who even hinted at violence
  666. 39:28maybe people who get violent should be
  667. 39:30arrested and they should spend time in
  668. 39:32jail and the authorities have a
  669. 39:33responsibility to allow the police to do
  670. 39:35their jobs and this is not the fault of
  671. 39:37the cost this is the fault of a cowardly
  672. 39:39political actors who pusillanimous
  673. 39:42cowards who hide behind their deaths
  674. 39:44every time some people on the left hand
  675. 39:45line a little bit and the second thing
  676. 39:48that has to happen is you have to stop
  677. 39:50seeing and everybody in America as an
  678. 39:51enemy who despises you based on identity
  679. 39:54I
  680. 39:55they don't care about you you're not
  681. 39:57that important a human he not that many
  682. 40:00of us know each other nothing that you
  683. 40:01must care about each other we care about
  684. 40:03our families whose mere about our
  685. 40:04friends and we certainly don't want to
  686. 40:05stop each other we mostly want to be
  687. 40:07treated stupidly then we can all do that
  688. 40:09if we stop looking into each other's
  689. 40:10eyes and seeing a potential enemy
  690. 40:12instead of seeing somebody who's just a
  691. 40:13person a person probably doesn't care
  692. 40:16about you very much just doesn't want to
  693. 40:18stop the human does his mind what you do
  694. 40:19this is not the difficult stuff and
  695. 40:21finally stop seeing yourself as a victim
  696. 40:24because in order to see everybody else
  697. 40:26is an enemy which justifies your
  698. 40:27violence and hate against them you have
  699. 40:29to see yourself as their victim again
  700. 40:31America is the greatest country in human
  701. 40:33history you are not if you are a victim
  702. 40:36of something you need to show me what
  703. 40:38you are a victim and I will stand beside
  704. 40:39you but do not blame 3ss most civil
  705. 40:41society in the history of planet Earth
  706. 40:43for your failures because that's on you
  707. 40:52no that's a rough I mean it was the Dean
  708. 40:55$600,000 was a security to hear all of
  709. 40:58that I have a feeling the vast majority
  710. 41:00of people who are protesting the
  711. 41:01speeches never heard of them I'm not
  712. 41:02arrogant enough to believe that Antiqua
  713. 41:04sits around watching spotlight videos if
  714. 41:07they did the idea that they're out there
  715. 41:13protesting they're out there maybe
  716. 41:14getting violent memory for people been
  717. 41:16arrested for carrying weapons ready the
  718. 41:18idea that all that is happening is
  719. 41:20indicative of the fact that we've
  720. 41:22stopped seeing each other as individuals
  721. 41:23we are all individuals I'm an individual
  722. 41:26particular point of view I am NOT a
  723. 41:28cardboard cutout for you to call a white
  724. 41:30supremacist I'm not a cardboard cutout
  725. 41:32for your colonizing and neither does
  726. 41:34anybody else in this room
  727. 41:35get to know people get to know their
  728. 41:37views just stops today that's what
  729. 41:39America that is what America is all
  730. 41:41about
  731. 41:49if we all do that I do think that
  732. 41:52America can see a better days I think
  733. 41:53we're in a dark moment right now but I
  734. 41:55think we can get to a brighter moment if
  735. 41:56we stop seeing each other as members of
  736. 41:57groups and identifying these members of
  737. 41:59groups primarily and instead see each
  738. 42:01other as individuals made in God's image
  739. 42:03one with equal value to another and
  740. 42:05God's eyes as we do that America will
  741. 42:07see a resurgence thank you so much
  742. 42:16and now the fun part so we're gonna do
  743. 42:18Kuna and I believe there's a microphone
  744. 42:20down here on the left
  745. 42:21as always my rule is that if you raise
  746. 42:23your hand because you just really gets
  747. 42:24over the present one we are indeed gonna
  748. 42:27do a Q&A this is by far the most fun
  749. 42:30point I would thank her axe guys yeah
  750. 42:34okay so ladies and gentlemen Berkley red
  751. 42:38tape and fire code I was gonna require
  752. 42:41everyone who wants to ask a question to
  753. 42:43walk out and around and form a line over
  754. 42:45there on the outside of the lobby right
  755. 42:49there we're gonna have a not referring
  756. 42:51people in after you ask your question
  757. 42:54there's a green arrow following this way
  758. 42:57we're gonna stand right here on the
  759. 42:58stacks and you're gonna walk to the back
  760. 43:00even if you're sitting in the front
  761. 43:01you're gonna have to walk all the way
  762. 43:03back and then to the other doors over
  763. 43:04there thank you ladies and gentlemen and
  764. 43:08we'll wait for the first one
  765. 43:12[Applause]
  766. 43:49[Applause]
  767. 43:54thank you guys for happening
  768. 43:58hello
  769. 44:00hi thank you for coming I do not
  770. 44:03disagree with a lot that you just said
  771. 44:06that's why I'm here
  772. 44:07yeah so let's talk about institutions
  773. 44:11dis you're saying she's not blame
  774. 44:12institutions happening Campbell and
  775. 44:15something like thinking you know that
  776. 44:17person per se is not recognized so let's
  777. 44:21start with the beginning of the life
  778. 44:23your maybe you were going into a poor
  779. 44:25family community where the schools where
  780. 44:30crimes are high you have to save you I
  781. 44:33think you know it's your question is
  782. 44:37according to my thinking I would say
  783. 44:40that's why and that person because
  784. 44:48education good the manatee be provided
  785. 44:53in turmoil in our communities instead of
  786. 44:55just based on you know how rich your
  787. 44:57houses just did you respond to that so I
  788. 45:00mean so if I made in your question
  789. 45:01straight so there's gonna be so you're
  790. 45:04suggesting that children grow up an
  791. 45:05unequal circumstances together the
  792. 45:06school district they go to not all
  793. 45:08schools are equal there are a lot of
  794. 45:09public schools that are garbage
  795. 45:13yes and I feel like in my world my thing
  796. 45:17and I think about is the quality and
  797. 45:19that is so I agree with you that not all
  798. 45:25public schools of are good and I agree
  799. 45:26with you that there is such a thing as
  800. 45:28equality of course there's such a thing
  801. 45:30as inequality we're not all born this is
  802. 45:31placement all warningly intelligence
  803. 45:33we're not
  804. 45:33organ gifts some of us are born smart
  805. 45:36but short will ever play in the NBA you
  806. 45:38know like we're not on board it's just a
  807. 45:40truism
  808. 45:40the question is is there an equity right
  809. 45:43is there an equity that needs to do
  810. 45:44remedy and the question that is and
  811. 45:46what's the best way to remedy that
  812. 45:47inequity so when you say that there's
  813. 45:48inequality is that because they're a
  814. 45:50bunch of rich people who are screwing
  815. 45:51those floor kicked out of a good school
  816. 45:52I don't think so because we're spending
  817. 45:54qoodles of money in the public schools
  818. 45:55particularly in poor areas it's not
  819. 45:57paying off very well what I would
  820. 45:59suggest is the best possible solution is
  821. 46:00devolve those dollars back to Terrance
  822. 46:02he's presumably care about those kids
  823. 46:03more than the public school system
  824. 46:05doesn't allow them as it chooses the
  825. 46:06schools for the children so I can agree
  826. 46:08with you that there was inequality then
  827. 46:09the question becomes okay how do we
  828. 46:11solve that problem so inequality and
  829. 46:14inequity are not the same thing and
  830. 46:15acquainting the two ideas just he
  831. 46:19developed thank you so I feel like you
  832. 46:21know we were getting really installer
  833. 46:23begin an epidemic here that is exactly
  834. 46:25what we saw is saying essentially
  835. 46:27talking about naturally evolving into
  836. 46:29the quality naturally the quality the
  837. 46:32quality that you're saying in that
  838. 46:34pipeline and I feel like society to the
  839. 46:44quality construct Opia and then suggest
  840. 46:57all children are going to have the same
  841. 46:59level of education and this is not
  842. 47:00reality
  843. 47:01there's no places
  844. 47:02because that's not the case you're right
  845. 47:05but there's a difference between
  846. 47:06difference in smarts and difference in
  847. 47:08the poverty situations in which you
  848. 47:10threw up but the truth is that the
  849. 47:12biggest inequality is the biggest
  850. 47:15inequity and inequality I would say this
  851. 47:16Terrance who decides to get a friend out
  852. 47:18of weather I mean if you want to look
  853. 47:19after them another performance has a
  854. 47:20much less to do with the school that you
  855. 47:23go to and much more to do with your
  856. 47:24family situation at home again I'm not
  857. 47:26arguing with you that any of these
  858. 47:27things are problem
  859. 47:28the question is reporter called whose
  860. 47:30tits Wayne and I think this is where we
  861. 47:32get you know problem in politics because
  862. 47:33the idea is that the person supplying
  863. 47:35must be the rich guy down the street now
  864. 47:36these rich guys fall I think that there
  865. 47:39are certain things is like that just
  866. 47:40aren't fair and then the question
  867. 47:42becomes okay how do we maximize
  868. 47:42opportunity without invading the right
  869. 47:44to somebody else and the easiest way to
  870. 47:46do that is to let people keep more of
  871. 47:48their own money and to do more to
  872. 47:50privatize the school system to give you
  873. 47:51people more choice
  874. 47:53[Applause]
  875. 48:00as great reveal them of behind a curtain
  876. 48:03and then in walk markets
  877. 48:12I'm honored to be the second part
  878. 48:14descent in this game show argument that
  879. 48:18the gender gave to the Jennifer to make
  880. 48:20bad news isn't it and one of the reasons
  881. 48:24this is the case is because that female
  882. 48:26stem education is dramatic females are
  883. 48:31continuous urged not going to sin feels
  884. 48:34weird like much lower than men ourselves
  885. 48:36wondering what you feel about this
  886. 48:38argument and I can hug did you like that
  887. 48:41you do I'm indeed or country can choose
  888. 48:45abilities if the idea is that the pay
  889. 48:47gap is largely teaches profession choice
  890. 48:49that's obviously true if you look at a
  891. 48:50lot of dangerous professions firemen
  892. 48:52people who are gonna oil erase his
  893. 48:54tendency men because men want to go into
  894. 48:57those it's professions it's also true
  895. 48:58that men tend to spend more hours it's a
  896. 48:59workplace it's also for the women tend
  897. 49:02to take more time off with babies women
  898. 49:05will overeat to me when feminists look
  899. 49:06like it's terrible that women take time
  900. 49:08off to be with their babies why Thank
  901. 49:10You wonderful yeah I think there is the
  902. 49:12societal discouragement for women to go
  903. 49:14into these particulars wondering if like
  904. 49:18there's women being a firefighter what I
  905. 49:22actually sees there's an affirmative
  906. 49:23action program in many of these cases
  907. 49:25for women going into things like
  908. 49:26firefighting because there's now an
  909. 49:28affirmative attempt to get probably
  910. 49:29previous time feels like fines
  911. 49:31technology so okay so there's 10 okay so
  912. 49:33James do more has an interesting battle
  913. 49:35that got acquired from Google on this
  914. 49:37but it is but it is certainly true that
  915. 49:39when you look at for example what women
  916. 49:41nature in in college the number of women
  917. 49:43who major in stem studies which has
  918. 49:45nothing to do with getting
  919. 49:47it's in women majoring in humanities
  920. 49:49much more than many men are just
  921. 49:51interested in this stuff when it's a
  922. 49:52terrible nineties my there but it'd be
  923. 49:53like those societal inputs that occurs
  924. 49:55to you before the College of all right I
  925. 49:57mean I don't know that there are a lot
  926. 49:59of people saying to a seventh grade girl
  927. 50:00who's good at math you need to stop and
  928. 50:03go read some poetry
  929. 50:08I have three younger sisters right I
  930. 50:13have my wife is a doctor by the way so
  931. 50:15second that step by wife's a doctor my
  932. 50:17mom runs a company very much for women
  933. 50:20in the workplace is being able for them
  934. 50:21and choose what they want to choose I
  935. 50:23really don't see a lot you can just tell
  936. 50:25me the person who's out there going
  937. 50:26woman's five five then I'll stand let me
  938. 50:30take that person's adult that's really
  939. 50:32stupid you know the woman wants to go
  940. 50:34into science it's just qualified for the
  941. 50:35job the same way that it equally
  942. 50:37qualified guy is great but I don't want
  943. 50:39is lowering their standards in science
  944. 50:41to meet any particular person and
  945. 50:42analysis don't want this idea that
  946. 50:43because of woman chooses not to go into
  947. 50:45science and a lot of women choose not to
  948. 50:47go into science and that creates
  949. 50:48disproportionate percentage based on
  950. 50:49individual choice that's actually this
  951. 50:51is some sort of group discriminations
  952. 50:53happening in front of us
  953. 50:55[Applause]
  954. 51:03hi first off I just want to say thank
  955. 51:06you for speaking as a fellow a Jewish
  956. 51:07conservative thank you so much for the
  957. 51:09two of us man so I wanted to ask you do
  958. 51:16you believe that there's an explanation
  959. 51:17for why victimization has become the
  960. 51:20main tactic of a bar level to gain
  961. 51:21support of the people yes
  962. 51:23so I did you think victimization was
  963. 51:25always his tactics doubled if I went up
  964. 51:26it was just as economic victimizations
  965. 51:28right Marxism is based on the idea that
  966. 51:30the proletariat are gonna rise up and
  967. 51:31overthrow the booth law but there's just
  968. 51:33a scoop of under underprivileged people
  969. 51:35as they call it who are going to rise up
  970. 51:38and there weren't great change to find
  971. 51:39them and take over the world whose
  972. 51:40always based on this notion that you're
  973. 51:42being victimized by somebody else but in
  974. 51:44the 1960s particularly it was clear that
  975. 51:47as America was thriving so so much was
  976. 51:49the 1950s economically and American
  977. 51:52become of this great world power the
  978. 51:53prominent world power they in terms of
  979. 51:55the economy was very hard to make the
  980. 51:56case to people who are not as wealthy
  981. 51:58that you need to rise up against this
  982. 52:01country which is creating all their
  983. 52:02wealth and so instead what the Left
  984. 52:03decided to do was misdirect into a
  985. 52:05legitimate grievance which was in ethnic
  986. 52:08based and sex based breathing's which
  987. 52:10made a lot more sense in the 1950s and
  988. 52:1260s than it does in 2017 and so there
  989. 52:15was this idea there could be identify
  990. 52:16you in troops we can use those groups
  991. 52:18just carry on the American
  992. 52:19infrastructure this system that's been
  993. 52:21developed by white men for the privilege
  994. 52:23of white men and we can tear that the
  995. 52:24concern that the other based on class
  996. 52:25these it turns out a lot of war people
  997. 52:27in the United States still wanted to get
  998. 52:28rich and they need that system to get
  999. 52:30rich but you can't do it based on group
1000. 52:32identity because if you can make women
1001. 52:33feel but the system is designed
1002. 52:35black people feel like the system is
1003. 52:37designed to keep you bend down and then
1004. 52:39you can tell them that it's the
1005. 52:40capitalist system more generally that is
1006. 52:42designed to keep them down and that
1007. 52:43whole system the superstructure is ripe
1008. 52:45with racism it has to be torn out root
1009. 52:47and branch if you can do that then you
1010. 52:50can actually feel the movement on the
  1011. 52:51back of that and that's what you're
1012. 52:52seeing in the Democratic Party actually
1013. 52:54right now it's fascinating to watch the
1014. 52:55conflict between sort of the Obama
1015. 52:57identity politics Democratic Party and
1016. 52:59the Bernie Sanders socialist Democratic
  1017. 53:01Party because that's actually an old
1018. 53:03battle right now it's the battle between
1019. 53:04economic class distinctions based visits
  1020. 53:06victimization and identity politics
1021. 53:08based victimization which is really more
  1022. 53:10what Obama uses 2012 re-election so
1023. 53:12would you say this is more of like get
  1024. 53:14rich rich Seymour I can't be rich no
  1025. 53:17well I think it's time which we're
1026. 53:21talking about the people who buy into
  1027. 53:22the idea of victimization I don't need
1028. 53:23to get rich quick scheme so much as and
  1029. 53:25I feel victimized scheme and I don't
1030. 53:26feel like taking responsibility but for
1031. 53:29the people at the top I think that it
  1032. 53:30actually is a question I think people
1033. 53:32with the top very often know exactly
1034. 53:34what they are doing and know because
  1035. 53:36they don't live like this right I mean
  1036. 53:38Barack Obama didn't live his life
1037. 53:39thinking of himself as a dramatic victim
1038. 53:41of society until he decided to write
1039. 53:43reduce my father and revise everything
1040. 53:45right but the fact is that Barack
1041. 53:46Obama's that I can agree we achieved
1042. 53:47this whole life I mean use it the
1043. 53:49cheaper and he did if you've been
1044. 53:51sitting around thinking how victimizers
1045. 53:52well I could be very difficulty to get
  1046. 53:54what I got thank you
1047. 54:01hey that given that the single things
  1048. 54:05Victor interject intergenerational
1049. 54:07poverty is whether an individual was
1050. 54:09raised as a single or two parent
1051. 54:11household to be for or against
1052. 54:14affirmative action policy where the
  1053. 54:16institution gives preferential treatment
1054. 54:19it's too complicated to arrange severe
1055. 54:21houses or you believe that that would
1056. 54:23give rise to more boxes up right so
1057. 54:26here's my view on affirmative action I
1058. 54:28don't believe that you should lower
1059. 54:29standards in order to let people in
  1060. 54:31because you're dismissed and retaining
1061. 54:32somebody else you should do my color so
1062. 54:34livid if you have a white applicant who
1063. 54:38scored fourteen hundred on their SATs
1064. 54:41business now twenty one hundred on their
1065. 54:43SATs and they want to go to a and they
1066. 54:46want to go to a good school and you have
1067. 54:47and that person grew up in a single
1068. 54:49family single parent family impoverished
  1069. 54:53and you have a black person who's Colin
1070. 54:55Powell's kids scores exactly the same
  1071. 54:56explore then I think that if you're
1072. 54:58going to look at all the factors you can
1073. 55:00say okay the person we had to overcome
1074. 55:01all these obstacles to get the same
1075. 55:02score deserves to get it but that's
  1076. 55:04based on overcoming obstacles that's a
  1077. 55:06character judgment that is not a
1078. 55:08judgment on the basis brakes and I also
1079. 55:10don't think it's hard fast rule with
1080. 55:12regard to a single mother friend again
1081. 55:13if you are any single child if you're
1082. 55:16the kid who is the child of some famous
1083. 55:18Hollywood actress is broken the lap of
1084. 55:20luxury versus you grew up in Appalachia
1085. 55:22or the inner city with two parents I
1086. 55:24think you have to look at totality loser
1087. 55:26in other words this points to the lena
1088. 55:49dunham shouting you know secure IQ or
1089. 56:08incomes take a good in terms of like
1090. 56:10bloating ride for you to talk to about
1091. 56:18policy I think when I was at Harvard Law
1092. 56:21School there was there a bunch of
1093. 56:24professors were on the Left including
1094. 56:25was this Lauren actually who she was
1095. 56:28relatively interesting to talk to
  1096. 56:29although there's Anna Richards Parker
  1097. 56:36because professors everybody likes a lot
  1098. 56:38here who was a professor's there who
1099. 56:40actually ended up writing a law firm
  1100. 56:42recommendation she was such a lettuces
1101. 56:43the chooses that we nominate Under
1102. 56:45Secretary of Labor she was a smart lady
1103. 56:50I think they start wrong foundational
  1104. 56:57principles ISM if you're smart person
1105. 56:59starting from the wrong principles you
1106. 57:00can reason your way in virtually
  1107. 57:01anything thank you
1108. 57:08first of all I just wanted to thank you
1109. 57:11for coming as someone who is
  1110. 57:13left-leaning I truly believe in freedom
1111. 57:15of speech and that is a principle thank
1112. 57:17you so my question was about abortion
1113. 57:24and I just want to know why exactly do
  1114. 57:27you think a first trimester fetus
  1115. 57:33because whether you consider it a
1116. 57:34potential human life or in Orangeville
1117. 57:36on the midline it has more value than
1118. 57:39just a cluster of cells if left to its
1119. 57:41natural processes it will grow into a
1120. 57:43baby so the real question is where do
1121. 57:45you draw the line so you can draw the
1122. 57:46line at the heartbeat because it's very
1123. 57:47hard to draw the line at the heartbeat
1124. 57:48there are people who are adults who are
1125. 57:50alive because of a pacemaker and they
1126. 57:51need some sort of an outside force
1127. 57:52generating their heartbeat carried into
1128. 57:54a may stem brain function okay well what
1129. 57:56about people who are in a coma
1130. 57:57should we just tell them right the
1131. 57:59problem is that anytime you draw any
1132. 58:00line other than the inception of the
1133. 58:02child you end up drawing a false line
1134. 58:04that can also be applied to people who
1135. 58:06are adults so either human life has
  1136. 58:08intrinsic value or it doesn't I think we
1137. 58:10both agree that adults who the legends
1138. 58:12exactly can we start from a premise
1139. 58:13I believe that sentience has its what
1140. 58:17gives something moral value not
1141. 58:19necessarily not necessarily being human
  1142. 58:22when you're sleepy
  1143. 58:28okay I'm gonna coma and I'm not like
1144. 58:55doing anything to anyone I'm not causing
1145. 58:58any issues so much the world whereas a
1146. 59:01normal child may or may not be a parent
1147. 59:09right well budget our duties in the
1148. 59:14argument right before you are making the
1149. 59:16argument based on the intrinsic value of
1150. 59:18a life based on sentences and now you're
1151. 59:19talking about the level of burden that
  1152. 59:21somebody presents as a separate moral
  1153. 59:23argument okay I don't believe that you
  1154. 59:25being a burden on somebody is
1155. 59:26justification for them telling you
  1156. 59:29[Applause]
1157. 59:41hello mr. Shapiro you have consistently
1158. 59:45praised the free market as the most
1159. 59:46effective the means by which to combat
1160. 59:48racism sexist is accepted right you
  1161. 59:51believe legislation prohibiting such
1162. 59:53behaviors is essentially people such as
1163. 59:57yourself conscious enough to fight the
1164. 59:59termination business or can be shown at
1165. 1:00:01the end of the day to conduct itself at
1166. 1:00:04the pursuit of profit my question is as
1167. 1:00:06follows if insurance companies can
1168. 1:00:08charge young female sister through
1169. 1:00:09higher prices of car insurance than
1170. 1:00:11young females because of the former has
1171. 1:00:13statistically been shown to be more
  1172. 1:00:14reckless drivers
1173. 1:00:15does this not leave open the possibility
1174. 1:00:17in a free market system for insurance
1175. 1:00:19companies to charge premiums based on
1176. 1:00:21certain ethnic or racial factors these
1177. 1:00:23is happening the racial categories if
1178. 1:00:27you object to the notion of charging
1179. 1:00:29someone more based on the factory that
1180. 1:00:30that person has virtually no agent using
  1181. 1:00:32sex
1182. 1:00:34why'd be not condemning the fact that
1183. 1:00:35young men activated if you do not object
1184. 1:00:37to the possibility that person of a
1185. 1:00:39certain sex ethnic or racial group may
1186. 1:00:41have to pay more on that basis then are
1187. 1:00:43you not failing to dismiss out
  1188. 1:00:44discriminatory tracks okay I think what
1189. 1:00:49it really boils down to the answer is
1190. 1:00:51that what you're taught you are now
1191. 1:00:52conflating ethnic racism with risk
  1192. 1:00:55factors okay I don't have a racist lived
1193. 1:00:57at risk factors meaning if you are
1194. 1:00:58saying that insurance companies may use
1195. 1:01:00being black as its proxies for heart
1196. 1:01:02disease for example because black men
1197. 1:01:04suffer from heart disease in a higher
1198. 1:01:05rate rather than white men two of the
1199. 1:01:07savings was renamed then my answer is
  1200. 1:01:10that insurance of somebody's in the
1201. 1:01:11business of assessing risk not in the
1202. 1:01:12business of assessment racism so if they
1203. 1:01:14look at you and they say that this is a
1204. 1:01:16higher risk factor I'm in another place
1205. 1:01:17sickle cell anemia right there are
1206. 1:01:18certain diseases that actually do it
1207. 1:01:19what the race is differently tastes
1208. 1:01:22so the answer is you're an insurance
1209. 1:01:23company folks are gonna charge more to
1210. 1:01:25somebody can has a higher risk factor
  1211. 1:01:26that's not racism Bester's the profit
  1212. 1:01:29motive I'm not saying that everyone's
1213. 1:01:30gonna get charged to say minute
1214. 1:01:32insurance of course not I see that you
  1215. 1:01:34and I won't be charged the same global
  1216. 1:01:35government I'm older than you presumably
  1217. 1:01:37they'll measure our bodily health don't
1218. 1:01:40make a bunch of distinctions you know
1219. 1:01:42they'll make bunch of decisions as to
1220. 1:01:43what our risk factors are and how that
1221. 1:01:45measures out in terms of what I need to
1222. 1:01:47pay in order to cover my projections but
1223. 1:01:50that has nothing to do with with quote
1224. 1:01:52unquote discrimination so there was for
  1225. 1:02:14insurance companies to charge someone a
1226. 1:02:16surplus charge between the next two
1227. 1:02:19premium by purchase the fact that they
1228. 1:02:21are Native American in their existence
  1229. 1:02:23no I think it's there for an insurance
1230. 1:02:24company to charge someone based on the
1231. 1:02:26risk factor of driving so what I would
1232. 1:02:28suggest is that in a free market system
1233. 1:02:30in this wide Opena 3 market system
  1234. 1:02:31there's an insurance company did we're
1235. 1:02:32talking about the insurance company
1236. 1:02:34decided Native Americans get charged
1237. 1:02:36more okay there would be another
1238. 1:02:38insurance company that would come along
1239. 1:02:39and they would say okay he's really true
1240. 1:02:41the Native Americans whose reverses
  1241. 1:02:42they're being charged more than I
1242. 1:02:43undercut my competitor by looking at
1243. 1:02:45people on an individual level and
1244. 1:02:47looking at all of their risk factors
1245. 1:02:48apart from race because race is not
  1246. 1:02:50inherently linked
1247. 1:02:52with males because for instance not all
1248. 1:02:54men you know are going to be any number
1249. 1:02:57themselves like more reckless driving
  1250. 1:02:59females however like I said neither
1251. 1:03:04occasions but this is why I mean this is
1252. 1:03:07my car insurance companies have the
1253. 1:03:08driver discount for example the goods
1254. 1:03:09right they actually do book it more then
1255. 1:03:12you just like my insurance rates went up
1256. 1:03:13through the ceiling what I got caught
1257. 1:03:14going down the aisle 501 13 and have my
1258. 1:03:16license suspended for a month for five
1259. 1:03:19years so you know that this is so the
1260. 1:03:22point that I'm making is that if you are
1261. 1:03:24suggesting that if you're trying to line
1262. 1:03:26up discrimination with market based
1263. 1:03:29profits if your question is is that can
  1264. 1:03:32you imagine a situation in which a
1265. 1:03:34business makes more money by
1266. 1:03:35discriminating and would that be okay
1267. 1:03:37then the answer would be it's just the
1268. 1:03:39pre get to business you can do what you
1269. 1:03:40want to free society not have no right
1270. 1:03:42to use your services however it is yet
1271. 1:03:45to come to my attention that racial
  1272. 1:03:46discrimination in a business is an
1273. 1:03:48actual profitable thing over time in a
1274. 1:03:51free market system where people can
1275. 1:03:52compete because race is not inherently
1276. 1:03:54connected to behavioral categories right
1277. 1:03:57basis of racism is that race is
1278. 1:03:58connected to behavior well I just like
1279. 1:04:01to say for instance Thomas slope point
1280. 1:04:04pointed out like in his book black right
1281. 1:04:14he got cheap would not the Irish forces
1282. 1:04:19were in the Americas or hundreds upon
1283. 1:04:22hundreds of years locked in destitute
1284. 1:04:24grinding poverty right okay so you just
1285. 1:04:27said that race you know if your company
1286. 1:04:31is too racist policies won't like like
1287. 1:04:36there's no long term gain to be made
  1288. 1:04:38from those pulses I think that's
1289. 1:04:41erroneous to say because it has to know
  1290. 1:04:44in that inequalities
1291. 1:04:47disparities do exist between certain
  1292. 1:04:49communities so you
  1293. 1:04:52based on races why it's biologically
1294. 1:04:54important supposed to culture to say
  1295. 1:04:56that it's not biologically born
1296. 1:04:58understand that if you have a policy
  1297. 1:05:00where you okay I don't want you to
1298. 1:05:05confuse your problem having and I think
  1299. 1:05:06instead of this but I don't want to
1300. 1:05:09spend found racist behavior unless you
1301. 1:05:11can show me that race is the inerrant
1302. 1:05:13source of a behavior and if it is the
1303. 1:05:15inner horses behavior then looking up
  1304. 1:05:16some instructions but I don't see that
1305. 1:05:17and if you show me that race is is back
  1306. 1:05:19that then that's that's isn't second
1307. 1:05:21discussion is whether we have to force
1308. 1:05:22businesses not to take race into account
  1309. 1:05:27[Applause]
1310. 1:05:42my question is are you familiar with the
1311. 1:05:45German state movement and if so what do
1312. 1:05:46you think about I'm sorry are you
1313. 1:05:49familiar with the German state movement
1314. 1:05:51and if so what do you think about
  1315. 1:05:56[Music]
1316. 1:05:59yes thank you so yes I am familiar with
1317. 1:06:02it I think the California is far too
1318. 1:06:05large income assistance are too many
1319. 1:06:09different people of different different
1320. 1:06:11political orientations for its campuses
1321. 1:06:13any electoral votes that said I think
1322. 1:06:16the chance to separate in California
1323. 1:06:17into from a political point of view the
1324. 1:06:19chance of separating California in three
1325. 1:06:20or four states with you know six or
1326. 1:06:22eight senators that could be a very
1327. 1:06:24dangerous thing for the balance of the
  1328. 1:06:26country
1329. 1:06:34they've been on purpose to Parker PSA
1330. 1:06:37and question so yes a is that even
1331. 1:06:39though they were says once you've stand
1332. 1:06:41by tickets and there was a line out the
1333. 1:06:43door the administration should revoke to
1334. 1:06:45all the standby tickets for all those
1335. 1:06:46people and I think that should be before
  1336. 1:06:48the shun
1337. 1:06:49that's totally seats here and the only
1338. 1:06:54reason we had we had more than three
1339. 1:06:57thousand people signed up for this
1340. 1:06:58ascent the administration cut off the
1341. 1:07:00upper balcony because they were
1342. 1:07:01apparently afraid teaspoon was going to
1343. 1:07:03somehow rip out the bolted down seats
1344. 1:07:04and fling them onto the people below I'm
1345. 1:07:06not joking like this was the actual
1346. 1:07:07excuse that they gave and then we
  1347. 1:07:09thought okay they're gonna be a bunch of
1348. 1:07:11people who signed up on the left to get
  1349. 1:07:12tickets and didn't show up specifically
1350. 1:07:13so that would we have two seats and as
1351. 1:07:15you say hundreds of people showed up
1352. 1:07:17outside and we're not allowed in because
  1353. 1:07:18the administration ticket if it's for
  1354. 1:07:20safety reasons it's a cover it okay you
1355. 1:07:24know I'll try to assume the best that
1356. 1:07:26it's for safety reasons but if it's
  1357. 1:07:27cowardice obviously it's cowardice
1358. 1:07:29dystrophy Lincoln more towards the
1359. 1:07:33criminalization of the drug jesus knew
1360. 1:07:34that you particularly how do you feel
1361. 1:07:37about the criminal justice system you
1362. 1:07:39know with all these nonviolent and
1363. 1:07:41there's all the money that we send on
1364. 1:07:42all the nonviolent offenders and drug
1365. 1:07:44abuse is open to the army so baby drug
1366. 1:07:46use Act which should be still
1367. 1:07:47criminalize it and reach those people
1368. 1:07:49the way that we do
1369. 1:07:57so let me be clear about this people who
1370. 1:08:00smoke dope annoy the living crap out of
1371. 1:08:01me and they smell fear that said if you
1372. 1:08:04want to smoke dope and lose brain cells
1373. 1:08:06then that's your problem so long as
1374. 1:08:08you're not coming to me for a handout I
1375. 1:08:10think there are certain drugs like PCP
1376. 1:08:13that apparently makes his violence his
  1377. 1:08:15that has externalities that's something
1378. 1:08:17that you have to talk about policing you
1379. 1:08:18have about policing in terms of you know
1380. 1:08:20selling drugs to minors but it doesn't
1381. 1:08:23seem to me the way you're talking about
1382. 1:08:23things like marijuana for example you
1383. 1:08:25couldn't police marijuana the same way
1384. 1:08:26that the police cigarettes or alcohol
1385. 1:08:28and just make it very difficult to sell
1386. 1:08:30it to people who are underage the
1387. 1:08:32biggest problem you have right now is
1388. 1:08:33that marijuana is so plentiful in places
1389. 1:08:36like California that even legalizing it
1390. 1:08:38is not gonna get rid of the black market
1391. 1:08:39because it actually the price is higher
1392. 1:08:40in the legal would be on the black
1393. 1:08:42market there are mixes best but when you
1394. 1:09:01talk about opioids which are actually
1395. 1:09:02addictive the higher level regulation of
1396. 1:09:05opioids seems to me not appropriate to
1397. 1:09:08clarify my questions do you think they
1398. 1:09:09should still be criminalizing these is
1399. 1:09:10not criminal if you are if you are
1400. 1:09:19smoking dope in your room then no I
1401. 1:09:21don't think identity all right
1402. 1:09:29hello mr. Shue so I'd like to first
1403. 1:09:32follow up on my question before making
1404. 1:09:34it so mr. Shapiro as a conservative
  1405. 1:09:36intellectual I respect you deeply and I
1406. 1:09:39agree with you when I posted issues
1407. 1:09:41however there is one where I disagree
1408. 1:09:43with you which is what we should do
1409. 1:09:44about climate change while I agree with
1410. 1:09:47you that we should be skeptical of
  1411. 1:09:49climate alarmists I cannot help but
1412. 1:09:51think of it hospitality if the skeptics
1413. 1:09:54are right we have to do this
1414. 1:09:56but if they are wrong then we have the
  1415. 1:09:58world in a 1984 election advertisement
  1416. 1:10:02Ronald Reagan campaigns if there's there
  1417. 1:10:05if you think there's a variable once you
  1418. 1:10:08bring you're given this maximum and
1419. 1:10:11ratings decision to protect the ozone
1420. 1:10:13layer by eliminating CFCs via the
1421. 1:10:15Montreal Protocol at a time when the
1422. 1:10:18science was very much split on whether
1423. 1:10:20or not do so there could ever be right
  1424. 1:10:21here would you support a revenue-neutral
1425. 1:10:24carbon tax that would be revenue neutral
1426. 1:10:27in the sense that the taxes we balance
1427. 1:10:29by tax by lowering of taxes on
1428. 1:10:33businesses on the individual uses things
1429. 1:10:35like that do you think that this would
1430. 1:10:37be a good insurance policy that would
1431. 1:10:41not necessarily give the command
1432. 1:10:43economies the command economists on the
1433. 1:10:46Left what they wanted but also entertain
1434. 1:10:48the possibility that maybe climate
1435. 1:10:50change is real and maybe there's my
  1436. 1:10:54position on climate changed I I think
1437. 1:10:59that the greenhouse gas effect is
1438. 1:11:02improvement in laboratories that carbon
1439. 1:11:04emission is can the world warmer the
1440. 1:11:06question is the sensitivity of the
1441. 1:11:07climate to those it's green house gas
1442. 1:11:09emissions how much is absorbed by the
1443. 1:11:10oceans for example and what effect that
  1444. 1:11:12has to find that long-term computer
  1445. 1:11:15modeling is a plot that's that said even
1446. 1:11:18if you leave the climate listen to take
1447. 1:11:20the guy who suggests it right yeah SEC
  1448. 1:11:21estimate is that we're supposed to
1449. 1:11:23increasing by the end of the century by
1450. 1:11:24seven degrees or disease the globalist
1451. 1:11:26so that varies obviously places places
1452. 1:11:28that also means that you have to take
1453. 1:11:31into account cops right so I mean you
1454. 1:11:35know as far as the carbon tax I haven't
  1455. 1:11:36actually looked at the economics it's
  1456. 1:11:38what you're talking about statistically
1457. 1:11:39enough the general regulations the
1458. 1:11:40different imposed on the carbon tax is
1459. 1:11:42talked about the penalizes companies in
1460. 1:11:43such a way that the cost is passed on to
1461. 1:11:45the consumer it seems to me that you're
1462. 1:11:46gonna create new taxes without
1463. 1:11:48dramatically lowering taxes you suggests
1464. 1:11:51which is really what the Left proposed
1465. 1:11:52is left sorta proposes carbon taxes but
1466. 1:11:54no offsets that you're going to end up
1467. 1:11:57with a situation where the cost of
1468. 1:12:00energy is passed on to consumer which
1469. 1:12:01leaves more people in poverty and I
1470. 1:12:03think pretending that there are no
1471. 1:12:04trade-offs when it comes to government
  1472. 1:12:06regulation is foolhardy
1473. 1:12:07I also think that the the truth is is
1474. 1:12:09what we've seen is that greenhouse gas
1475. 1:12:10emissions are defiling thanks to
  1476. 1:12:12technological developments and for
1477. 1:12:14example did the easiest way to to lower
1478. 1:12:16greenhouse gas emissions right now if
1479. 1:12:17you build a bunch of nuclear power
  1480. 1:12:18plants which is something
  1481. 1:12:20California for a very very long time 40
1482. 1:12:24years there's if he would give me the
1483. 1:12:27right to testify you know the idea that
1484. 1:12:28there is not new technologies around the
1485. 1:12:30corner that are going to help us
1486. 1:12:32mitigate the emissions is foolhardy to
1487. 1:12:36me I think that when when sramek says
1488. 1:12:39you know bring a gun into the woods
1489. 1:12:41there the question is when you bring a
1490. 1:12:43gun into the woods the question is
1491. 1:12:44whether or a thesis that a bear is there
1492. 1:12:46the question is whether to bring a gun
1493. 1:12:48into the woods right now based on the
1494. 1:12:50Economist as I've looked at the question
1495. 1:12:52is whether you should randomly wander
1496. 1:12:53around the woods in a tank right is that
1497. 1:12:55worthwhile because the kind of the kind
1498. 1:12:57of solutions that it seems the leftist
1499. 1:12:59suggestions are necessary or in actually
1500. 1:13:00occur but they think it's coming are so
  1501. 1:13:02dramatic
  1502. 1:13:03that you talk about a really
1503. 1:13:06dramatically lowering the American and
1504. 1:13:08the global standard of living in order
1505. 1:13:09to the combat until then may or may not
  1506. 1:13:11happen even does happen
1507. 1:13:13may be easier to deal with 100 years
1508. 1:13:15from now our technology 100 years from
1509. 1:13:16now is gonna be a lot better than the
1510. 1:13:17idea by the way the people population
1511. 1:13:21throughout human history right but what
  1512. 1:13:24I'm what I'm statistically advocating
1513. 1:13:26for here is that the right to come up
1514. 1:13:29with its own policy in service of
1515. 1:13:31solving climate changes right now the
1516. 1:13:33discussion has been dominated by the
1517. 1:13:35type of people that you're talking about
1518. 1:13:36who want to promote ank's and divorce
  1519. 1:13:38randomly why I'm suggesting is a carbon
1520. 1:13:41but certain is carbon tax that is
1521. 1:13:43revenue neutral that should be supported
1522. 1:13:45by conservatives is because this is a
  1523. 1:13:46better solution to a lot of what we're
1524. 1:13:48seeing on the left but I think that
  1525. 1:13:49conservative intellectuals like yourself
1526. 1:13:51who have a lot of sway and who could
1527. 1:13:55advertise this policy I'd be happy to
1528. 1:13:57if I look at your proposals the answer
1529. 1:13:58is yes as you said your proposal I'll be
1530. 1:14:00happy to look at and but I think that
1531. 1:14:02it's worth noting that there are
1532. 1:14:03actually three positions right one is
1533. 1:14:05that the free market and into
1534. 1:14:06efficiencies and new technologies will
1535. 1:14:08help curb this on the tone and then
1536. 1:14:09government regulation should not be
  1537. 1:14:11answers then there's the hard left
1538. 1:14:12position which is what you take over
  1539. 1:14:13everything
  1540. 1:14:14and then there's position you're
1541. 1:14:15advocating so I'll have to look at your
1542. 1:14:16position and see where I think it stacks
1543. 1:14:17up in investing you think but
  1544. 1:14:19environmental regulations I don't know
1545. 1:14:21many conservatives who are not in favor
1546. 1:14:22of some at least minimal environmental
  1547. 1:14:24regulations because those are
1548. 1:14:25externalities that affect people beyond
1549. 1:14:26the beyond you obvious all right
  1550. 1:14:36hi my name's Caroline
1551. 1:14:45whenever somebody on the Left comes with
1552. 1:14:47my lectures Thank You Caroline for
1553. 1:14:50coming we've the borage of the CMS
  1554. 1:14:55murder
1555. 1:14:55did you believe women in to get
1556. 1:14:56abortions even when their lives the
1557. 1:14:58child's life is in danger
1558. 1:15:00should we go the first reason is because
1559. 1:15:13I don't think that it is effective
1560. 1:15:15deterring the board to put women on
1561. 1:15:18trial for for the killing of the unborn
1562. 1:15:20the second reason is because I think
1563. 1:15:22that we in our society have
  1564. 1:15:23unfortunately gotten such a point that
1565. 1:15:24an entire generation have been
1566. 1:15:26indoctrinated to believe particularly an
  1567. 1:15:28attraction to women so we're talking
  1568. 1:15:30about urban a doctor natives believe
1569. 1:15:31that a baby is hollow and so when they
  1570. 1:15:33remove it I'm not sure there's the
1571. 1:15:34actual mens rea unnecessary the actual
  1572. 1:15:36criminal intent necessary for a
  1573. 1:15:37prosecution so when we're talking about
  1574. 1:15:40you know the typical pro-life position
1575. 1:15:42here has been that the woman is disease
1576. 1:15:43victim and abortion nearly as much as
1577. 1:15:45the babies that there is that there's an
1578. 1:15:47entire abortion industry that is geared
1579. 1:15:49toward teaching women that babies are
1580. 1:15:51not babies is not getting maybe aborted
1581. 1:15:55is in fact betterment of their life so
1582. 1:15:57no I'm not in favor of prosecuting women
1583. 1:15:59in Florence but I mean you know today
  1584. 1:16:08they are ordering
1585. 1:16:13I just gave you two reasons what a
1586. 1:16:16public policies one and and one look
1587. 1:16:18you'd have to show me you really have to
1588. 1:16:22show me the case of a woman who went in
1589. 1:16:23there and said I know this is a baby cut
1590. 1:16:25its brain then that is his fantasize I
  1591. 1:16:30mean that's like wouldn't you
1592. 1:16:31acknowledge mean if we're walked in with
1593. 1:16:32no the baby goes one day old and said
1594. 1:16:34here's my baby kill it wouldn't you put
  1595. 1:16:37her on trial but that's easy that's now
1596. 1:16:38we're talking on the vast majority of
1597. 1:16:40abortion is the truth is unfortunately
  1598. 1:16:41that women don't actually believe
  1599. 1:16:43they're killing a child they actually
  1600. 1:16:44believe they're killing something that
1601. 1:16:46is not human don't think it abortion is
1602. 1:17:00murder is a fundamental element in any
  1603. 1:17:04criminal prosecution
  1604. 1:17:05I think portions I think that it's
  1605. 1:17:07terrible for them I think
  1606. 1:17:08thanks a lot worse today
1607. 1:17:15and you make your own public policy
1608. 1:17:18based on the vast majority not on the
1609. 1:17:19outline case of course isn't the same as
  1610. 1:17:22murder
  1611. 1:17:23you wouldn't trigger the mistake of a
1612. 1:17:24false fear in love no I absolutely can
1613. 1:17:26because there are many types of murder
  1614. 1:17:27and there's there's manslaughter yeah
1615. 1:17:29there's unintentional murder so the
1616. 1:17:33doctor knows that time saying the doctor
1617. 1:17:34has the mens rea the doctor has the
1618. 1:17:36actual intent to commit a murder because
  1619. 1:17:38doctor full well in those that's a baby
  1620. 1:17:39in there who's beating heart here's your
1621. 1:17:41stopping so interactive that was it
  1622. 1:17:49Kermit Gosnell on trial for first-degree
1623. 1:17:51for her you know this time trial or or
  1624. 1:17:55either second-degree murder or
1625. 1:17:57manslaughter the this is this is a crime
  1626. 1:18:00against humanity that's eternal and if
1627. 1:18:02you believe that obviously the
1628. 1:18:03ideologically consistent yes and this is
  1629. 1:18:05it again traditional pro-life position
1630. 1:18:07I'm not aware of any major pro-life or
1631. 1:18:09in America who believes his limit you
  1632. 1:18:10put on traveler
  1633. 1:18:14[Applause]
1634. 1:18:20okay hey Ben my name is Andrew and since
1635. 1:18:24Jack has been making a huge headlines
1636. 1:18:26throughout the whole nation what do you
1637. 1:18:28think she's with you now should have
1638. 1:18:29been a pastor everything should she say
1639. 1:18:32have a baby something else better or
1640. 1:18:34should we continue having attacked each
1641. 1:18:42other okay so first of all my position
  1642. 1:18:45on immigration is I'm actually very
1643. 1:18:47libertarian on immigration except for
1644. 1:18:49two factors one is government payments
1645. 1:18:51that go to the illegal immigrants and
1646. 1:18:52the second is the is the cultural
1647. 1:18:54assimilation issues for people who come
1648. 1:18:56across the border illegally and are
1649. 1:18:57willing to assimilate into traditional
1650. 1:18:59American culture right so these are two
  1651. 1:19:01serious concerns I'm not as concerned
1652. 1:19:03with the economics as illegal
1653. 1:19:04immigration in the sense that people who
1654. 1:19:06say you have to restrict our labor force
1655. 1:19:07in order to maintain a certain wage base
  1656. 1:19:09I don't think that's correct because
1657. 1:19:11this is why you see companies that
1658. 1:19:12actually offshore and outsource because
  1659. 1:19:14they're looking for cheaper labor it's
1660. 1:19:15it's all we will bring anyone
1661. 1:19:17conservative state but we have to
1662. 1:19:18maintain a wage base by restricting the
1663. 1:19:20labor supply then why are you for
1664. 1:19:21raising the minimum wage that does
1665. 1:19:23exactly the same thing restricts to the
1666. 1:19:25labor supply and raise the wage base so
1667. 1:19:28as far as daca dodged my view on top is
1668. 1:19:30the people who are here illegally
1669. 1:19:32whether they were born here or whether
1670. 1:19:34they were brought here small children or
1671. 1:19:36not should be assessed on one
  1672. 1:19:38[Music]
1673. 1:19:40so I am not in favor of the blanket swap
1674. 1:19:43amnesty for millions of people based on
  1675. 1:19:46how long they've been here I've been
1676. 1:19:47favored of looking at people one on one
1677. 1:19:49and saying okay this person is in
  1678. 1:19:50college and looks like they're gonna
  1679. 1:19:51have a career and haven't been taking
1680. 1:19:52welfare dollars this person looks like
  1681. 1:19:53they're they're a good American or they
1682. 1:19:55want to be a good American put them in
1683. 1:19:57the back of the line on a pathway to
1684. 1:19:58legalization but if you're here you take
1685. 1:20:01you welfare dollars you're not going to
  1686. 1:20:02school you're not bettering yourself
1687. 1:20:04you're not going to be a productive part
1688. 1:20:05of American society having to buy basic
1689. 1:20:08American cultural hallmarks you do that
1690. 1:20:10you go the exact same standard for
1691. 1:20:12people who are currently here at legally
1692. 1:20:13as those people who want to enter
1693. 1:20:14legally understand exact standard except
1694. 1:20:16if you're here illegally go to the back
1695. 1:20:17of the line you wait behind the people
  1696. 1:20:18who came here legally it's a little bit
1697. 1:20:38I want to ask you about the recent
1698. 1:20:41politically polarizing tendencies of the
  1699. 1:20:43media oh yeah
  1700. 1:20:44so I identify particular tendency for
1701. 1:20:57people to just choose their own
  1702. 1:21:02[Music]
  1703. 1:21:43[Music]
  1704. 1:22:06[Music]
1705. 1:22:13what's the way out more information
1706. 1:22:16supporting the idea that the government
1707. 1:22:19the government should never be regulated
1708. 1:22:21to siege or access students once the
  1709. 1:22:22government does that then you're
  1710. 1:22:24wandering it's very very suspicious a
1711. 1:22:26territory when it comes to consumers
1712. 1:22:28this media look the me here just can
1713. 1:22:30provide you what you want to read ok
1714. 1:22:32neither do we provide you what you want
1715. 1:22:33to click them and yes most of its pre
1716. 1:22:36most to people in the media deficit
1717. 1:22:37including the level meaning media do we
1718. 1:22:39want to tell the truth I think a lot of
  1719. 1:22:40them don't recognize everybody
  1720. 1:22:41you know I'm conservative that ends a
1721. 1:22:43way that I cover the news is going to
  1722. 1:22:45determine conservative Engel I try to
1723. 1:22:46separate myself and others say okay
1724. 1:22:48here's the facts and then here's my
1725. 1:22:49opinion but everything that I say is
1726. 1:22:51something from that point of view I
1727. 1:22:52think we wanted big problems in media
  1728. 1:22:54people don't do that whether George
  1729. 1:22:55Stephanopoulos tries to pretend it's an
  1730. 1:22:57objective news source but that doesn't
1731. 1:22:59mean everything he says is false but it
1732. 1:23:00does mean that everything he says is
1733. 1:23:01something from the former campaign
1734. 1:23:03spokesperson for Bill Clinton and that
1735. 1:23:05should have it in hand so it doesn't
1736. 1:23:07suck to us to look at a variety of news
1737. 1:23:09sources I recommend this all the time
1738. 1:23:10right don't just listen to my podcast
1739. 1:23:11the listeners of pot a generic pot in
1740. 1:23:13America don't just read daily wire go
1741. 1:23:15over and check Huffington Post make sure
  1742. 1:23:17that you're reading a variety of news
1743. 1:23:18sources you actually want to tell what
1744. 1:23:19the facts are the best way to do it is
1745. 1:23:21to read two opposing two opposing
  1746. 1:23:23websites there's two opposing outlets
1747. 1:23:25and think of them as lines that
1748. 1:23:27intersect with one more point and the
1749. 1:23:29point which they intersect is the
  1750. 1:23:30factual point and that's not occurred
1751. 1:23:56that's why you know the founders relied
1752. 1:23:59on the idea that we're going to come
  1753. 1:24:00excessively agitated I mean you're gonna
  1754. 1:24:03trust a sequel one way or another I
1755. 1:24:04don't trust the government to regulate
1756. 1:24:05what people see I trust the government
1757. 1:24:07let's regulate the pp which is regularly
1758. 1:24:09what people see then I do the people to
1759. 1:24:10agitating themselves and this one falls
  1760. 1:24:13under the heading
1761. 1:24:14the turtles that democracies versus
1762. 1:24:16except for all the others right
1763. 1:24:18unfortunately there's no way out of this
1764. 1:24:19box people are going to have to inform
1765. 1:24:21themselves better and yes of course
  1766. 1:24:22people have a tendency toward
  1767. 1:24:24confirmation bias but that's why it's
1768. 1:24:25your job if you know about confirmation
1769. 1:24:27bias to suggest to people that maybe
1770. 1:24:28they should stop relying so much on
1771. 1:24:30their own confirmation bias okay thanks
1772. 1:24:38hey Ben my name is very hot and I'm a
1773. 1:24:41Muslim in junior in high school and I've
1774. 1:24:43been really trying to have her in you
  1775. 1:24:44know what I believe in
  1776. 1:24:45so I'd be conservative and you've anyone
1777. 1:24:48could be educators so thank you for
  1778. 1:24:49coming here
1779. 1:24:50well thank you when you talk about
1780. 1:24:56inequality being one of the stupidest
1781. 1:24:58things to measure because well dr.
  1782. 1:25:00Pierce has talked about a Gini
1783. 1:25:02coefficient so they calculate income
  1784. 1:25:05inequality neighborhoods and streets
1785. 1:25:10your neighbor you know her worth it so
1786. 1:25:13do you have to be response to that yes
  1787. 1:25:16there's greater income inequality
1788. 1:25:18between Bill Gates is its neighbor than
1789. 1:25:20there is between anybody living in the
1790. 1:25:21inner city there's no crime at Bill
  1791. 1:25:22Gates
1792. 1:25:23so I would suggest it it has more to do
1793. 1:25:26with poverty to neighborhood them in
1794. 1:25:27halves of intimate equality in
  1795. 1:25:28neighborhood you talk about
  1796. 1:25:32institutional racism the now it doesn't
1797. 1:25:34really exist and I would not have heard
1798. 1:25:39of discrimination and the bank lending
1799. 1:25:43discrimination and that the idea of
1800. 1:25:44redlining was widely debunked sincerely
1801. 1:25:46tees dialysis in regard to how banks
1802. 1:25:48operating yeah did the banks sit around
  1803. 1:25:50and then they figure out okay there's a
1804. 1:25:51black guy it has exactly the same credit
1805. 1:25:53score's white guy I'm not getting them
1806. 1:25:54alone banks face it on credit score's
1807. 1:25:57pages in a we bought a business so you
1808. 1:26:00know a lot of this has been wildly
1809. 1:26:01exaggerated again if you can show me a
1810. 1:26:02bank that actually is redlining then
1811. 1:26:04they would be prosecuted under federal
  1812. 1:26:05law that's a violation in the Civil
  1813. 1:26:07Rights Act of 1964 you can't
  1814. 1:26:08discriminate
1815. 1:26:09even in private businesses on the basis
  1816. 1:26:10of race fifty-five dollars for
  1817. 1:26:14discriminating against Hispanics and
1818. 1:26:16blacks who had the same before it's like
  1819. 1:26:19okay so then they
  1820. 1:26:21that's a godown that would be a crisis
  1821. 1:26:25that's a great example singular case
1822. 1:26:27where somebody gets punished they should
1823. 1:26:28be punished you know and by the way they
1824. 1:26:35should be able to do what they want then
1825. 1:26:38we would suggest is that these people
1826. 1:26:39just walk across the street to another
1827. 1:26:40bank that wasn't redlining them and then
1828. 1:26:42they should have gotten a better loan as
1829. 1:26:47an institution they did something bad
1830. 1:26:49and I think capitalism makes us go back
  1831. 1:26:50again I've been discriminating against
1832. 1:26:52client is a very easy way for you to go
1833. 1:26:54bankrupt you mentioned that any legal
1834. 1:27:07rights are given to us to God but I've
  1835. 1:27:10noticed that there's this argument to
1836. 1:27:11the contrary posited by political
1837. 1:27:13philosophy well Steiner in cases the
1838. 1:27:16following three things the will theory
1839. 1:27:18but interest theory and hopefully in
1840. 1:27:20deontological the will theory states
1841. 1:27:22that rights govern our choices and
1842. 1:27:25income from our choices but you have to
1843. 1:27:28make a choice or the POPPINS to make a
1844. 1:27:30choice then our rights in effectively be
  1845. 1:27:33void the interest yacht's it's that we
1846. 1:27:36can join our rights but they can be
1847. 1:27:39affected by the breach or duty by the
1848. 1:27:41other part so somebody else is taking
1849. 1:27:43away our rights under the agency under
1850. 1:27:45papillion deontic logic there are four
1851. 1:27:48types of rights privileges claims
1852. 1:27:52Unity's all of those Kansas teachers are
1853. 1:27:55out and taken away at time do you have
1854. 1:27:57any news on this argument but would that
1855. 1:28:15said it's hard for me to take on an
1856. 1:28:17argument that I want to actually read
  1857. 1:28:19more about before I think before I stake
1858. 1:28:20you know is this an argument based on so
1859. 1:28:24here's my basic question the reason that
1860. 1:28:26I say that rights are based on god-given
1861. 1:28:27rights is the idea that is long-held in
1862. 1:28:31the Western canon an accommodation of
  1863. 1:28:32judeo-christian values Aristotelian
  1864. 1:28:34philosophy that suggests that
  1865. 1:28:36individuals have certain rights as a
1866. 1:28:38facet of their reason and that reason is
1867. 1:28:41originally provided by an unmoved mover
1868. 1:28:43all right so the idea the reason that
1869. 1:28:45that is important as opposed to an
  1870. 1:28:47atheistic philosophy of right is it's
1871. 1:28:51very difficult for me to see why in a
1872. 1:28:52theistic velocity of right having
1873. 1:28:54offices sinaiticus velocity is it it has
1874. 1:28:58if you do it without reference to if you
1875. 1:29:02do with no reference to the inherent
1876. 1:29:04value of the human being then it certain
1877. 1:29:05certain people just fall by the wayside
1878. 1:29:07I mean even even the theory that your
1879. 1:29:10spouse's with me which again I'm only
1880. 1:29:11getting their bones minute you you even
1881. 1:29:14in that when you say you know for
1882. 1:29:15example well if you don't have the
1883. 1:29:16capacity to exercise well your rights
1884. 1:29:17all the way okay well there are a lot of
  1885. 1:29:18people like children who don't really
1886. 1:29:20have the capacity to exercise totally
  1887. 1:29:21their will
1888. 1:29:22do they have any rights at all is to
1889. 1:29:23have the right not to be killed Laius is
1890. 1:29:25different they have the right mentally
1891. 1:29:26abused to my knowledge to don't America
1892. 1:29:28is another huge developed countries
1893. 1:29:30right so children obviously have rights
1894. 1:29:33which is like No Child Protective
1895. 1:29:34Services that comes in and takes kids
1896. 1:29:35out of the Potomac their baby kids don't
1897. 1:29:38have the rights to control you know
1898. 1:29:39where they where they go to school they
1899. 1:29:41don't have the right to control a lot of
1900. 1:29:43a lot of things about their life but
1901. 1:29:45they certainly have basic human rights I
1902. 1:29:46mean that the entire society is built
1903. 1:29:48around the idea of basic human rights of
  1904. 1:29:50children okay that's my question
  1905. 1:29:54eliminate
  1906. 1:30:00you know I didn't quite follow
1907. 1:30:04everything so kind of try to try to get
  1908. 1:30:06up to speed with what's happening but I
1909. 1:30:08wanted to thank my son the senior place
1910. 1:30:10was the chairman of the lighting out the
  1911. 1:30:12city we're over there
1912. 1:30:13he thrilled more things one that an
1913. 1:30:16attorney over to the podcasts I really
1914. 1:30:18enjoy listening to sound speech taking
1915. 1:30:24out some of the vulgarity but we're in a
1916. 1:30:27college yeah so nobody would understand
  1917. 1:30:31me if I didn't drop the [ __ ] once
1918. 1:30:32it's live so so so my main question was
1919. 1:30:37going to be the role of the church in
1920. 1:30:39the founding of our nation our nation so
  1921. 1:30:42great you being Jewish I'm a Christian
1922. 1:30:45through the mouth hollering society was
1923. 1:30:48able to get this print alive because
1924. 1:30:49they told my liberal because some
1925. 1:30:51follower of Jesus he was horrible human
1926. 1:30:55being I never walk the face beavers he
1927. 1:31:00helped people all that so
1928. 1:31:05one other day to Canada into this how
1929. 1:31:08you reconcile roll the church in in
1930. 1:31:11influencing culture I am also the fact
1931. 1:31:14that I did briefly grew up in California
1932. 1:31:17medium or liberal seat of our nation I
  1933. 1:31:21moved into Tampa Florida
1934. 1:31:22for three and a half years work for
1935. 1:31:24Hillsborough County that are used to the
  1936. 1:31:25whites-only bathroom while I was there
1937. 1:31:28in 1995 it wasn't being used as such but
1938. 1:31:34I don't know where was the colors or the
  1939. 1:31:36whites but I asked fail if I didn't use
1940. 1:31:39the rest of law at the courthouse we
1941. 1:31:41said what we usually use the Lord
  1942. 1:31:43there's no sign I'm gonna go there 1956
1943. 1:31:46years or 40s look across the hall there
  1944. 1:31:49was as men's restroom a second ooh this
  1945. 1:31:51is interesting
1946. 1:31:52I've never California living in the
  1947. 1:31:54south so I walked across this hallway 19
1948. 1:31:57fixture making of these fixtures so I
1949. 1:32:00think kind of balancing out the fact
1950. 1:32:02that there is doing justices in our
  1951. 1:32:04country
1952. 1:32:05ya can't go back and change them but you
1953. 1:32:08can tell those people that are living of
1954. 1:32:10the victimized mentality that look yes I
  1955. 1:32:16think I understand because I use white
1956. 1:32:21color whatever but my wife through Cuba
  1957. 1:32:28I really enjoyed it but so here's a
1958. 1:32:32couple of things as far as the role of
1959. 1:32:34the of the church in American society
1960. 1:32:36your first question my basic philosophy
1961. 1:32:38on this is that the government exists to
1962. 1:32:41preserve certain basic rights and then
1963. 1:32:42you have social institutions that need
1964. 1:32:44to provide the safety net for the rest
1965. 1:32:46of society so I'm very much for a strong
1966. 1:32:49Church in regards to communal life a
1967. 1:32:52minute along with synagogue activate
1968. 1:32:54that you fall on hard times then that
1969. 1:32:56means that the first thing that you need
1970. 1:32:57to do is go to your family and then the
1971. 1:32:58second thing you need to do is go to
1972. 1:33:00your church and then you go to your
1973. 1:33:01local community and then up the scale
1974. 1:33:03the problem that I see in society right
1975. 1:33:04now is that people go to the top of the
  1976. 1:33:06scale the federal government they don't
1977. 1:33:07bother with anybody lower down on the
  1978. 1:33:08scale which is why it's a consistent
1979. 1:33:10growth in the federal government
  1980. 1:33:11judeo-christian values as I've said a
1981. 1:33:12thousand times are the root of the
1982. 1:33:14civilization and cannot be ripped away
1983. 1:33:16without collapses in civilizations on
1984. 1:33:18top of it as far as the the idea of the
1985. 1:33:22existence has passed racism in the
  1986. 1:33:24United States of course I agree that's
1987. 1:33:26true and it says that you know obviously
1988. 1:33:29I agree that slavery and Jim Crow were
1989. 1:33:31some of the worst evils perpetrated by
  1990. 1:33:33human beings I mean they're truly truly
1991. 1:33:35evil the question now is we have people
1992. 1:33:38who are living now who have not
1993. 1:33:39committed those sins to we some how do
1994. 1:33:42we punish them for the systems their
1995. 1:33:43fathers in other words it's the best
1996. 1:33:45thing to do to teach an entire
1997. 1:33:46generation of young black people for
1998. 1:33:48example that America is in a mall truly
1999. 1:33:50racist in all certainly bigoted and
  2000. 1:33:52they're living in a country with such a
2001. 1:33:54brutal history of racist is that they
2002. 1:33:55cannot rise because that actually is
  2003. 1:33:57false it's backwards it hurts that's
  2004. 1:33:59that
2005. 1:34:00philosophy so you can understand why
2006. 1:34:02when people say listen I mean Esther
2007. 1:34:04Juju's had a long history of oppression
2008. 1:34:06also so that this is me but I think that
  2009. 1:34:08anybody owes me anything and I don't
  2010. 1:34:09think that it's appropriate to teach
2011. 1:34:11children that somebody owes you
  2012. 1:34:12something as it's just a rule who have
2013. 1:34:14not done anything to you I think that if
2014. 1:34:15somebody's done something to you then
2015. 1:34:16they do owe you but if they do then they
2016. 1:34:19don't owe you anything and if you build
2017. 1:34:20the system based on you having to
2018. 1:34:22rectify the stakes that were made by our
  2019. 1:34:23grandfather we're never gonna get beyond
2020. 1:34:25this we're never gonna get beyond this
2021. 1:34:26to you all sinned against each other's
  2022. 1:34:28grandfather's like political economy I
  2023. 1:34:53know you're a believer in the government
  2024. 1:34:56like everything pretty much
  2025. 1:34:58you're also a firm believer
2026. 1:35:01you know competition is good so
2027. 1:35:04wondering what are you thinking about
2028. 1:35:05role of like your credit institutions or
2029. 1:35:08regulatory bodies to protect competition
2030. 1:35:10for example sort of so when antitrust
2031. 1:35:23laws of these everything the vast
2032. 1:35:24majority of things that the government
2033. 1:35:25declares monopolies are not in fact
2034. 1:35:27monopolies the definition of monopolies
2035. 1:35:29is the ownership of a hundred percent of
2036. 1:35:30our picture which allows you to
2037. 1:35:32arbitrarily set prices and also to
2038. 1:35:34simply buy out all of your competitors
2039. 1:35:36lorries regulatory captured or prevent
2040. 1:35:38them entering the market I think the
2041. 1:35:40cases that are generally brought on
2042. 1:35:41antitrust grounds are very very weak
  2043. 1:35:43because they're usually larger than the
2044. 1:35:45same industry so take an example they
2045. 1:35:47grow up at Microsoft Microsoft did not
2046. 1:35:48control a hundred percent of the market
  2047. 1:35:50we believe in control
2048. 1:35:51seventy-five percent of our control
2049. 1:35:52selectivity percent market they broke
  2050. 1:35:56anyway / - pizza
