  1. 0:03In western psychology, you are the
  2. 0:05center of the universe. You are the most
  3. 0:07important character. In the Quran, Allah
  4. 0:10is the most important entity. So your
  5. 0:12healing is not coming from inside. It's
  6. 0:14coming from outside. It's coming from
  7. 0:16Allah.
  8. 0:17Is it possible that Allah is commanding
  9. 0:19you to do something and if you do it,
  10. 0:21you're going to be traumatized? We are
  11. 0:23now experiencing we're we're looking at
  12. 0:26these prophets and we're understanding
  13. 0:29that what they experience is not a small
  14. 0:31amount of trauma. It's extreme.
  15. 0:34It's an extreme form of trauma. And
  16. 0:36there's a lot of, you know, social media
  17. 0:39content about how traumatic, how toxic
  18. 0:42your mother is and what a narcissist
  19. 0:44your brother is. Allah did not call Fyun
  20. 0:47a narcissist who calls himself God.
  21. 0:50Allah said, "Go speak to Fyan softly.
  22. 0:52maybe he will change. But in this new
  23. 0:54modern psychology, once you're a
  24. 0:56narcissist or once you're toxic, you're
  25. 0:58radioactive. You can't change. You're
  26. 1:00done. Finished. The difference between
  27. 1:02us and the Christian creed is you're
  28. 1:04broken and you will always be broken.
  29. 1:07With us, you can break and then you can
  30. 1:09fix again. And then you can break and
  31. 1:11you can what? Fix again.
  32. 1:18The thing I wish to talk to you about
  33. 1:19today is a very heavy subject.
  34. 1:23And that is human emotions in the Quran.
  35. 1:37Everyone um I want to start by sharing
  36. 1:41some highlights of my Belgian and
  37. 1:44Netherlands experience
  38. 1:46this morning. Uh, I went to a school. My
  39. 1:50high, one of my highlights was I went to
  40. 1:51a school and of course I heard all these
  41. 1:52kids playing around at the school and
  42. 1:54everybody's speaking Dutch. I don't know
  43. 1:56any Dutch. And uh, we were going to
  44. 1:59leave, but we decided to stop by one of
  45. 2:01the classrooms. And so we're just
  46. 2:04outside the classroom and the teacher
  47. 2:05still teaching and say went in and got
  48. 2:08permission and the door was open. So the
  49. 2:11kids could hear me talking to my
  50. 2:12colleague in English. And the kid in the
  51. 2:15last row looked at me happy and he said,
  52. 2:18"You speak English?"
  53. 2:21I was the one supposed to be surprised
  54. 2:23that he speaks English. But he was
  55. 2:25surprised that I speak. You speak
  56. 2:26English? I was like, "You speak
  57. 2:27English?" He goes, "Yeah." So I sat down
  58. 2:30with him in the back of the class. We
  59. 2:32started talking. I was like, "How did
  60. 2:33you learn English?" He said, "YouTube."
  61. 2:36I said, "No. What do you watch on
  62. 2:37YouTube?" He said, "I don't want to tell
  63. 2:38you.
  64. 2:43So, we kept having a conversation and
  65. 2:45then just for fun, I said, "You know
  66. 2:46what? I think I'm on YouTube." He goes,
  67. 2:48"No."
  68. 2:50So, then I took out my phone and I
  69. 2:51looked myself up on YouTube. He goes,
  70. 2:53"That's you.
  71. 2:55Wait, my dad has seen you."
  72. 2:59And then he started doing a facial
  73. 3:01recognition like just to verify if
  74. 3:04that's me. And in the meantime, the rest
  75. 3:06of the kids were staring. And the
  76. 3:09teacher for some reason put me up on the
  77. 3:10screen uh on the on the class screen,
  78. 3:14but he put the one of the you know they
  79. 3:16have these videos of the cartoon
  80. 3:17animation voice over thing. So there's a
  81. 3:20cartoon me and one of the girls says
  82. 3:23it's that guy.
  83. 3:26So that was a really fun experience with
  84. 3:28those kids. Alhamdulillah, they were
  85. 3:29lots of lots and lots of fun. The second
  86. 3:30experience was afterba at the masid. A
  87. 3:34lot of people came up to me and said,
  88. 3:35"Saddam." And a young man came up to me
  89. 3:37and said, "It's good content. Are you on
  90. 3:40Tik Tok?"
  91. 3:41I said, "I I don't know." He goes, "I'll
  92. 3:43look you. I'll find your TikTok. It's
  93. 3:44good stuff. I like you." So, I felt very
  94. 3:49validated by the 14-year-old.
  95. 3:52Well, anyway, alhamdulillah. Um, it's
  96. 3:54it's good to be here. And I was actually
  97. 3:57very confused about what topic I should
  98. 3:59uh share with you. There are a number of
  99. 4:01subjects that I've been wanting to give
  100. 4:03a lecture about from the Quran and from
  101. 4:05my observations, but I I was holding
  102. 4:08back and I didn't decide. And the reason
  103. 4:11I didn't decide is I like to come to a
  104. 4:12community and kind of observe what's
  105. 4:15going on as much as I can before I
  106. 4:18choose what to talk about. So, this
  107. 4:21topic was chosen an hour ago. Uh, so
  108. 4:24it's going to be pretty bad, but that's
  109. 4:25that's your fault. Okay.
  110. 4:29Um, the thing I wish to talk to you
  111. 4:31about today is a very heavy subject.
  112. 4:33It's something that I I've been studying
  113. 4:35on and off for a few years, but
  114. 4:37inshallah, my team and I are going to be
  115. 4:39dedicated to studying this subject, I
  116. 4:42think probably for the next four or five
  117. 4:43months at least full-time in the Quran.
  118. 4:46And that is human emotions in the Quran.
  119. 4:49How to understand Allah's commentary on
  120. 4:51human emotion in the Quran. And I'm just
  121. 4:54picking one of those emotions today or
  122. 4:56one of those human experiences, not all
  123. 4:58of them. Because be before I get into
  124. 5:01the subject, I want to share just one
  125. 5:03basic foundation issue with you.
  126. 5:06A lot of people when they go through a
  127. 5:08difficult time today, they're told, "Go
  128. 5:11speak to a therapist. Go speak to a
  129. 5:14counselor. Go speak to some mental
  130. 5:16health professional. You're depressed.
  131. 5:18You have anxiety. You have a trauma. you
  132. 5:20have something and you need to speak to
  133. 5:22some kind of counselor, right? And I I
  134. 5:25don't disagree. I don't disagree.
  135. 5:27However,
  136. 5:29it's very important that we understand
  137. 5:30that western psychology meaning
  138. 5:33psychology in Europe, America, Canada,
  139. 5:36Australia, the western world and the
  140. 5:38universities that are producing the
  141. 5:41educa the people that are qualified in
  142. 5:43psychology. They are based on a
  143. 5:46foundation of you know there are
  144. 5:49documents the founders of western
  145. 5:52psychology and in western psychology
  146. 5:54there are a few things that we have to
  147. 5:56take note of and those few things are
  148. 6:00the most important thing for you is is
  149. 6:02you.
  150. 6:04The the center of the universe is you.
  151. 6:09Your world is yours
  152. 6:12and what whatever you're experiencing in
  153. 6:15order to understand it, we have to
  154. 6:17understand you better. So we have to go
  155. 6:20back in your past and we find out what
  156. 6:23happened in your childhood. What was
  157. 6:24your mother like? What was your father
  158. 6:26like? What was your experience like? Oh,
  159. 6:28that was a trauma you experienced when
  160. 6:29you were 5 years old. And this is a
  161. 6:31trauma that happened to you when you
  162. 6:32were 10 years old. And this is what
  163. 6:34happened to you when you were a
  164. 6:35teenager. and you had this trauma and
  165. 6:36this trauma and this trauma and this
  166. 6:38trauma and these traumas shaped you and
  167. 6:39that's why you are the way you are etc
  168. 6:41etc there's this so basically the
  169. 6:44therapist not every therapist but
  170. 6:46generally I'm generalizing here is
  171. 6:49exploring an entire universe that exists
  172. 6:51inside you
  173. 6:53and then from that they'll come up with
  174. 6:56because you have these these experiences
  175. 6:58this is what we can do and there's one
  176. 7:01you know there's many people that have
  177. 7:03pioneered in this field but one
  178. 7:04particular person that is the father of
  179. 7:06western psychology is Freud. I think
  180. 7:07everybody here knows that. And Freud has
  181. 7:11this is not a lecture about Freud. I
  182. 7:12promise you. But one thing you do need
  183. 7:15to know about Freud uh Freud is the
  184. 7:18secular version of Christianity.
  185. 7:22And I'll explain in a second what that
  186. 7:23means. Freud, according to me, Freud is
  187. 7:26the secular version of what?
  188. 7:28>> Christian creed. Christianity. Why? The
  189. 7:31Christians believe that Adam
  190. 7:35disobeyed God. He the image of God was
  191. 7:38broken. He was shattered. He was brought
  192. 7:40to the earth broken and in sin. So he
  193. 7:44was born in sin. And no matter what he
  194. 7:46does, he will always be broken. He can
  195. 7:48do all the good in the world. It will
  196. 7:50never be good enough. He will be broken.
  197. 7:52And all of his children are are born
  198. 7:54broken. That's why they're all born with
  199. 7:56original sin. And this can never be
  200. 7:58fixed. This kid doesn't matter how much
  201. 8:00charity they give, how much kindness
  202. 8:02they do, how good they are, how honest
  203. 8:04they are, how truthful they are. None of
  204. 8:06that matters. They are still drowned
  205. 8:08inside sin. They are all broken. And the
  206. 8:11only thing that can fix it is God
  207. 8:12himself. So he decided to slaughter his
  208. 8:14own son to fix this problem. So the
  209. 8:18problem started from Adam and the only
  210. 8:21thing that could solve this problem was
  211. 8:23the sacrifice of God's son. And finally
  212. 8:26the the humans are no longer broken if
  213. 8:28they accept Jesus as Lord and S. That's
  214. 8:30the Christian idea. But one thing that I
  215. 8:32want you to remember from this idea is
  216. 8:34all human beings start broken. The
  217. 8:37starting point is broken. In Freud
  218. 8:40psychology, all human beings start
  219. 8:43traumatized.
  220. 8:45All of them. We all have a complex. We
  221. 8:48all have issues. Nobody's normal. And
  222. 8:51you're spending your entire life undoing
  223. 8:53your own trauma.
  224. 8:55There's no such thing as normal. There's
  225. 8:57no such thing. Now, this is this is
  226. 9:00something in common between the two. All
  227. 9:02human beings are broken. One is saying
  228. 9:04spiritually broken. The other is saying
  229. 9:05psychologically broken but still broken.
  230. 9:09There's a hadith of the prophet
  231. 9:10sallallahu alaihi wasallam very famous.
  232. 9:11I think everybody here knows it.
  233. 9:15Every newborn is born on the
  234. 9:19Allah says
  235. 9:22the beautiful perfect nature of Allah
  236. 9:24and Allah used that nature to create
  237. 9:26human beings.
  238. 9:30We created the human being in the most
  239. 9:31beautiful upright form. In the Quran and
  240. 9:35in Islam human being the starting point
  241. 9:37of the human being is not that they are
  242. 9:38broken that they are actually perfectly
  243. 9:40fine.
  244. 9:42They're on the they're perfectly fine.
  245. 9:45And then the hadith goes on to describe
  246. 9:47that bad things happen later on happens
  247. 9:50bad
  248. 9:54the parents turned him into a Jew or
  249. 9:56Christian imagine whatever else right
  250. 9:57that's later on.
  251. 10:00So the starting point of understanding
  252. 10:03psychology the root the root is
  253. 10:06completely different for the believers
  254. 10:08of Islam and for the study of
  255. 10:12psychology. And what happens then is
  256. 10:14there are Muslims who are now studying
  257. 10:17psychology in western university.
  258. 10:20Yeah. And then they're trying to bring
  259. 10:22together Islam and psychology and we're
  260. 10:24trying to create something called
  261. 10:25Islamic psychology.
  262. 10:27If we don't understand where the roots
  263. 10:30separate and we're trying to connect the
  264. 10:32branches later on, it's never going to
  265. 10:34connect properly.
  266. 10:36They're not going to connect properly.
  267. 10:38So, this is something that's going to
  268. 10:39require deeper research. I'll be doing a
  269. 10:41lot of work on that and how we need to
  270. 10:42actually there's a need for Muslims to
  271. 10:45actually develop Quranic psychology
  272. 10:48entirely new, entirely fresh, not from
  273. 10:52the Western paradigm, but from the Quran
  274. 10:54paradigm. From the Quran paradigm. Okay.
  275. 10:56So when I I I wrote the I told him to
  276. 10:59write this title on top and I wrote the
  277. 11:01word trauma and the moment you see
  278. 11:04trauma western psychology comes to mind
  279. 11:07and in western psychology all of you
  280. 11:08have been traumatized and the other
  281. 11:10thing about interestingly about western
  282. 11:12psychology is most western psychological
  283. 11:14literature is based on uh middle class
  284. 11:19European or euroentric
  285. 11:21uh uh people and culture. It has nothing
  286. 11:26to do with Africa. It has nothing to do
  287. 11:28with Asia. It has nothing to do with the
  288. 11:30Far East. It does nothing to do with
  289. 11:31them. And in industrialized Europe, do
  290. 11:34families live together
  291. 11:37after the industrial revolution? Do
  292. 11:38mother, father, grandfather, uncle,
  293. 11:41cousins, do they live nearby each other?
  294. 11:43No. They don't have a concept of
  295. 11:45families living together? Do they have a
  296. 11:47concept of you have to be the best to
  297. 11:48your parents until they become very old?
  298. 11:51No, they don't have their concept. Do
  299. 11:53they have the concept of blood ties?
  300. 11:57You have to keep the blood ties. You
  301. 11:58have to connect people together. You
  302. 12:00have to get together with them. You have
  303. 12:01to share goodness with them. You have to
  304. 12:03give your the first charity good should
  305. 12:04go to your own family eternal
  306. 12:09freedom.
  307. 12:11Individual freedom. And in their in
  308. 12:13their society for well over a century,
  309. 12:16maybe even even more now, your family is
  310. 12:19actually a trauma.
  311. 12:21You get really depressed because it's
  312. 12:22going to be Christmas and you're going
  313. 12:23to have to see your mother and she's
  314. 12:25going to make comments and ah that's why
  315. 12:27I need to go to my therapist before I go
  316. 12:29to the family reunion.
  317. 12:31Okay? Because I can't I can't deal with
  318. 12:33my uncle. I can't deal with my brother.
  319. 12:35Oh my god, my brother's calling again.
  320. 12:37Oh my god, my father. So, every one of
  321. 12:39your family members is a problem in
  322. 12:41Western psychology.
  323. 12:43You understand? There there's some kind
  324. 12:45of trauma associated with them. And
  325. 12:48there's a lot of, you know, social media
  326. 12:52content from professionals,
  327. 12:54non-professionals, people that want to
  328. 12:56become, you know, Tik Tok therapists,
  329. 12:57whatever, about how traumatic how toxic
  330. 13:00your mother is and what a narcissist
  331. 13:03your brother is. And what a what if what
  332. 13:06do you what do you do if you have a
  333. 13:07toxic family and an abusive family and a
  334. 13:09narcissistic family? What did they say?
  335. 13:11They said, "Pray."
  336. 13:13What did they say? What are you wearing?
  337. 13:15Oh my god. You do you queen.
  338. 13:19Right? So you have this because they
  339. 13:22don't believe in the idea of family that
  340. 13:26existed for centuries and centuries and
  341. 13:28centuries in every other society. But in
  342. 13:30western society family is a prison and
  343. 13:33you have to free yourself from that
  344. 13:35prison. You have to free yourself from
  345. 13:36the trauma that was given to you by your
  346. 13:38mom and your dad. You have to free
  347. 13:40yourself from that. You have to find you
  348. 13:43find you know become yourself.
  349. 13:46So we really really need to understand
  350. 13:50this kind of therapy is also a dawa.
  351. 13:53This therapy is also a message and it's
  352. 13:56not just happening inside the office of
  353. 13:58a therapist when somebody pays for
  354. 14:00counseling sessions. This is happening
  355. 14:02now in media, in television, in music,
  356. 14:04in literature, in classrooms, in it's
  357. 14:07being we are being bombarded with this
  358. 14:09new psychology.
  359. 14:11This new psychology. So the the roots
  360. 14:13are different, but the branches and the
  361. 14:16fruits are also completely different.
  362. 14:18They're completely different. And so
  363. 14:20when we try to fix our problems as
  364. 14:23Muslims from a western psychological
  365. 14:26paradigm and go to them and they tell
  366. 14:29you, "Oh, so tell me about the
  367. 14:32relationship with your mother." Tell me
  368. 14:34about the relationship with your father.
  369. 14:36My father, you know, sometimes when I
  370. 14:38messed up, he uh he was pretty tough.
  371. 14:40Oh, yeah. How did that make you feel?
  372. 14:42Scared? Oh, so your father put fear in
  373. 14:45you. That's why that's why your marriage
  374. 14:48is failing right now.
  375. 14:51It's my dad's fault.
  376. 14:56This is the mind warp that's happening.
  377. 15:00And we're learning these new labels and
  378. 15:03everybody's become a psychologist.
  379. 15:06Everybody, every teenager here knows
  380. 15:08who's toxic and who's a narcissist and
  381. 15:09who's got you. You're throwing these
  382. 15:13words out just like that. Allah did not
  383. 15:15call Fyun a narcissist.
  384. 15:19Allah said go speak to Fyon softly.
  385. 15:21Maybe he will change.
  386. 15:24Okay. But today somebody will say is a
  387. 15:26narcissist.
  388. 15:28He's an egotistical maniac. There's no
  389. 15:30point talking to him. Just block him.
  390. 15:34Okay. Just you need to just avoid him.
  391. 15:37And if you run into him and you're
  392. 15:38traumatized, come back and talk to me
  393. 15:40because you know.
  394. 15:43But Allah is telling Musa Alam to go
  395. 15:45talk to who calls himself God. But even
  396. 15:48then, Allah says he can change. But in
  397. 15:50this new modern psychology, once you're
  398. 15:52a narcissist or once you're toxic,
  399. 15:55you're radioactive. You can't change.
  400. 15:57You're done. Finished. Now you're toxic
  401. 15:59for life. You're an abuser for life.
  402. 16:01You're a narcissist for life. These are
  403. 16:03labels. These are not behaviors. These
  404. 16:05are labels. They're permanent. Like your
  405. 16:07genetics. They're permanent. It's crazy.
  406. 16:10Anyway, now we're going to start. That
  407. 16:12was the foundation. Now I'm going to
  408. 16:14start the lecture. Okay. That was just
  409. 16:16Okay. I'm going to give you two words
  410. 16:18today. I could give you tons of
  411. 16:20vocabulary, but I'm going to give you
  412. 16:21two words. First word is garb. If you
  413. 16:25don't, if you're not taking notes, which
  414. 16:26means you're a brother, it's okay. Um,
  415. 16:31one brother
  416. 16:34two exceptions. Okay, Allah reward you.
  417. 16:36The exception proves the rule. Uh,
  418. 16:39sisters, the term is
  419. 16:42kaf.
  420. 16:44carb like carbs,
  421. 16:47right? Okay,
  422. 16:49let me tell you something about this
  423. 16:50word.
  424. 16:52When uh in Arabic,
  425. 16:56when they have palm trees and they grow
  426. 16:58leaves and they cut off all the leaves
  427. 17:00and they still have the edges left and
  428. 17:02the edges of a palm tree are strong, so
  429. 17:04you can step on them like a ladder, you
  430. 17:06can use them like ladders. That part of
  431. 17:08the palm tree that's strong, that's
  432. 17:10called a karab from the same word. uh
  433. 17:13when they have a rope that they tie on
  434. 17:16the well so they can lower the bucket
  435. 17:18and they keep knotting it and knotting
  436. 17:20and knotting it. Even if the rope
  437. 17:21breaks, the knot is still stuck. That
  438. 17:24part of the knot that never breaks,
  439. 17:25that's called a also. So it's the part
  440. 17:29of the tree that never breaks, it's part
  441. 17:30of the rope that never snaps. It's also
  442. 17:33used for when they tie an animal's legs
  443. 17:36together so it doesn't it's not able to
  444. 17:38move and it doesn't open. That's also
  445. 17:40called a It's also used for the wood
  446. 17:43that the baker uses to, you know, they
  447. 17:46have those those those bakeries where
  448. 17:48the bread is put inside the walls,
  449. 17:50right? And you have to have a very
  450. 17:52strong piece of wood to slap the the
  451. 17:55bread inside. It's it can't break. It
  452. 17:58can't get on fire. It can't bend. That
  453. 18:00kind of tough wood is actually also
  454. 18:02called a karib. Actually, it's called a
  455. 18:04karib. But anyway, there are other
  456. 18:06examples. You get the point. something
  457. 18:07very tough, something that doesn't
  458. 18:09break. Yeah.
  459. 18:11From this came this idea that a human
  460. 18:15being that experiences something that
  461. 18:18becomes very heavy and never breaks. The
  462. 18:20feeling that never goes away, a feeling,
  463. 18:23a weight, a burden that never goes away,
  464. 18:26a stress that never goes away. An
  465. 18:28anxiety that never goes away. A fear
  466. 18:31that never goes away. A sadness that
  467. 18:33never goes away. And it's heavy. and you
  468. 18:35try to break it but you can't break it.
  469. 18:37It's always there. It becomes a
  470. 18:38permanent part of your personality. That
  471. 18:40kind of a fear is called a or that kind
  472. 18:43of a depression or an anxiety or a
  473. 18:46sadness, right? That kind of emotional
  474. 18:48burden is called a
  475. 18:51it's very hard to break. It's fixed.
  476. 18:53Okay, that's the first word. The second
  477. 18:56word is
  478. 18:57ra
  479. 18:59the word is used for you know rama comes
  480. 19:03from it which is clouds when they come
  481. 19:05and you can't see the sun anymore so
  482. 19:07they cover the clouds they're called
  483. 19:10okay
  484. 19:16they used to have this uh this kind of
  485. 19:19mask they sometimes they put it on the
  486. 19:22mouth of the camel so it it doesn't make
  487. 19:24a
  488. 19:25They gag the camel and sometimes they
  489. 19:27have another they put it on the eyes of
  490. 19:30the camel so it doesn't look around.
  491. 19:31Then they have aam on the camel so it
  492. 19:33doesn't smell because they're going
  493. 19:34through an area. If it smells it's going
  494. 19:36to react and run away. So they put a a
  495. 19:40cover on the nose. So aam is something
  496. 19:43that covers up. It's a cover the clouds
  497. 19:46that cover the sky the mask that covers
  498. 19:48the eyes or the nose or the mouth of the
  499. 19:50camel. It's actually from it you get the
  500. 19:52word alum which is a kind of sickness
  501. 19:55like if you have a sinus blockage and
  502. 19:57you can't breathe from your nose because
  503. 19:59your nostrils are covered. That's
  504. 20:01actually called in Arabic. That's that's
  505. 20:04one of the words for it. Okay. Uh and
  506. 20:07from it you get this idea that someone
  507. 20:09who is experiencing
  508. 20:12such a painful experience
  509. 20:14that because of that even when they have
  510. 20:17a happy experience it's blocked.
  511. 20:20They can't experience joy. They can't
  512. 20:22experience a smile. Everybody else is
  513. 20:24laughing. They can't laugh. Everybody
  514. 20:26else is excited. They're not excited.
  515. 20:27There's They're sitting there watching a
  516. 20:29football final. Everybody's going,
  517. 20:30"Yeah." And they're going,
  518. 20:33"How was it?
  519. 20:36It was fun. This is amazing."
  520. 20:40Right?
  521. 20:42This person who's not able to they, you
  522. 20:44know, a lot of people describe feeling
  523. 20:45numb. Do you know what what I mean by
  524. 20:47that? I can't experience joy like I used
  525. 20:50to. I can't experience excitement. I
  526. 20:52can't experience happiness. Nothing, you
  527. 20:54know, gets my blood flowing. I'm
  528. 20:57experiencing something called
  529. 21:00Rum is a kind of numbing feeling. Rum is
  530. 21:03a kind of blockage, an emotional
  531. 21:04blockage. Now I'm not able to feel what
  532. 21:06I used to feel. In fact, can be so
  533. 21:08powerful that you don't even you don't
  534. 21:10even cry.
  535. 21:12Rum can happen at a at a funeral.
  536. 21:14Everybody's crying and you're not you're
  537. 21:17not feeling it. You're not feeling it.
  538. 21:19You're blocked. And people are looking
  539. 21:20at you like your your dad just passed
  540. 21:22away or your your brother just passed
  541. 21:24away. Why aren't you crying? I don't
  542. 21:25know. I can't feel anything.
  543. 21:28Am I I know I'm supposed to cry, but I
  544. 21:30can't. This feeling is called what? So,
  545. 21:34we've got two really heavy emotions and
  546. 21:38I could have given you like eight more
  547. 21:40cuz these are all negative emotions.
  548. 21:41There's lots of them in the Quran, but I
  549. 21:43wanted to just focus on two of them.
  550. 21:45Hold on to that in the in the back
  551. 21:46pocket. And now let's talk about some
  552. 21:48prophets.
  553. 21:50Okay,
  554. 21:52we're going to start what I'm going to
  555. 21:54give you. You will do your own homework.
  556. 21:56Uh this is from Ambia, surah number 21.
  557. 22:00And this is going to be from ayah number
  558. 22:0265 onwards. And we're not going to do
  559. 22:04all of the ayat. Just pick and choose
  560. 22:06some parts. We're starting with Ibraim.
  561. 22:10When Ibraimisam was a young man, and
  562. 22:12this is where you need to start making
  563. 22:14some noise. I will ask you questions and
  564. 22:15you will call out answers with no
  565. 22:17hesitation. I know you're Europeans, so
  566. 22:19you're very civilized, but today you act
  567. 22:21like you're an American at a baseball
  568. 22:23game. Come. Okay, you got to be loud.
  569. 22:26Okay, so I'll ask you questions. You
  570. 22:28just answer out loud. I want to hear
  571. 22:29your answers. Ibraimisam was when he was
  572. 22:32very young, did he experience any kind
  573. 22:36of trauma?
  574. 22:37Okay, let's talk about his trauma.
  575. 22:40>> Where did his trauma come from? Who was
  576. 22:42traumatizing him?
  577. 22:45>> His father. Very good. His father. Okay,
  578. 22:47so now there's a young man and his
  579. 22:50father is angry with him. His father is
  580. 22:52very angry with him. His father is
  581. 22:55telling him, if you imagine, we don't
  582. 22:57know, but just use your imagination. You
  583. 22:59have a webcam inside the house of
  584. 23:03Ibrahim. And the the webcam is pointing
  585. 23:06at the father, not at Ibrahimam because
  586. 23:08we don't film the prophets. So the
  587. 23:11camera is on his father and his father's
  588. 23:13yelling at him. What kind of things does
  589. 23:16he say? What do you think? What do you
  590. 23:18think he says to Ibrahimam?
  591. 23:21Use your imagination.
  592. 23:24>> Huh?
  593. 23:25>> You're weird. Why are you so weird?
  594. 23:30>> You're obnoxious.
  595. 23:32You're ungrateful.
  596. 23:35>> You're a bad son.
  597. 23:37What else? Come on. Come on. Some you
  598. 23:40Some of these things are not coming from
  599. 23:41imagination. They're coming from
  600. 23:42experience. Come on.
  601. 23:52>> Oh, you're a shame for this family.
  602. 23:56You're such a disappointment.
  603. 23:59>> You're a disgrace.
  604. 24:02How are you, my son?
  605. 24:06You're lazy. Because he wasn't building
  606. 24:08the idols. I guess
  607. 24:12that's a good one. That's a lot of
  608. 24:15stuff.
  609. 24:17Is it important for a child, a boy, that
  610. 24:20his dad is proud of him?
  611. 24:23Okay. So, when you when you you you're a
  612. 24:26kid, you're a kid and you do well on a
  613. 24:28test. you do or you're a kid and you're
  614. 24:32playing football and your dad is
  615. 24:33watching the match and you score a goal.
  616. 24:36A bunch of people are happy. Where do
  617. 24:39your eyes go first?
  618. 24:41>> Dad.
  619. 24:44Like, yeah.
  620. 24:46Dad is proud.
  621. 24:50If you did well, if you did well and
  622. 24:53your father came and gave you a hug and
  623. 24:55father said, "I am proud of you."
  624. 24:58If your friend said, "I'm proud of you."
  625. 25:01If your mom said, "I'm proud of you."
  626. 25:04Because mom's proud of you. Even when
  627. 25:06you got arrested for selling drugs, he's
  628. 25:08still proud of you. like your mom
  629. 25:09doesn't you know
  630. 25:14but your dad
  631. 25:16when your dad is proud of you
  632. 25:19when your dad says good job
  633. 25:22my I I'm from Pakistan and in Pakistan
  634. 25:26it is haram to encourage your children
  635. 25:30we don't it's it's we we have a
  636. 25:32different mudhab and
  637. 25:35okay and in our mudhab we don't we don't
  638. 25:38encourage encourage children. So my
  639. 25:40father is an except he tries. He tries.
  640. 25:42I love my dad. And I'll tell you
  641. 25:44something about my dad. Love him to
  642. 25:46death.
  643. 25:49The most my father will ever give me
  644. 25:52when he's really proud of me, really
  645. 25:54proud of me, he'll give me a hug and say
  646. 25:57satisfactory.
  647. 26:05And satisfactory is actually the
  648. 26:07highest. It's pretty high. There's one
  649. 26:10underneath that. It's acceptable.
  650. 26:15And then when my sister graduated from
  651. 26:17medical school, he said, "Good."
  652. 26:20And I said, "Hey,
  653. 26:23you had that one, too?
  654. 26:25She got the highest one. She got good."
  655. 26:29Encouraging words from a father mean
  656. 26:32everything.
  657. 26:33Everyone else can say whatever, but when
  658. 26:35your father validates you, it does
  659. 26:37something nobody else can do.
  660. 26:40But when a father puts you down,
  661. 26:44when a father puts you down, when a
  662. 26:45father says you're lazy, when a father
  663. 26:47says you're a disappointment, when a
  664. 26:49father says you're useless, when a
  665. 26:51father says I'm ashamed of you, when a
  666. 26:53father says, "Why can't you be like
  667. 26:55those other boys?" When a father looks
  668. 26:57at you and doesn't even say anything and
  669. 26:59all the disappointment is on his face,
  670. 27:03just on his face or you come in and
  671. 27:05sayamlaykum and he says
  672. 27:10that breaks a man. It breaks a child.
  673. 27:15You know what it tells a child?
  674. 27:17He doesn't care. I can never impress
  675. 27:20him. I can never make him happy. You
  676. 27:23know what? I don't care about making
  677. 27:26anyone happy.
  678. 27:28I can't make him happy. So, you know
  679. 27:29what? Why do I have to care about
  680. 27:32anyone's feelings? Because the one
  681. 27:34person you cared about their feelings so
  682. 27:36much that you want to see something from
  683. 27:38them, something positive from them, they
  684. 27:39didn't give it to you. So now you get
  685. 27:43traumatized
  686. 27:45and you don't care about what anybody
  687. 27:47else feels because you didn't get the
  688. 27:49validation from your dad. Let's go back
  689. 27:52to Ibrahimam. His father is telling him
  690. 27:54he's a disappointment. He's weird. He's
  691. 27:56not like everybody else. Why is he such
  692. 27:59a loser? Why is he so strange? Why is he
  693. 28:01crazy? He has such high hopes for him.
  694. 28:05He's giving he's giving the father a bad
  695. 28:07name. He's hearing all these things. Are
  696. 28:09these easy things for any child to hear?
  697. 28:12No. No. Go further in this young man's
  698. 28:16life and what do you experience? He's
  699. 28:19this young man Ibrahim.
  700. 28:21his entire society. At least when your
  701. 28:24dad doesn't like you, maybe you have
  702. 28:25friends who like you. Yeah. Because a
  703. 28:28lot of times you don't get along with
  704. 28:29your dad. So then you get along with
  705. 28:30your friends.
  706. 28:33Usually the friends that you get along
  707. 28:34with are doing other bad things,
  708. 28:36rebellious things. Ibrahimam doesn't
  709. 28:39even have a gang to hang out with.
  710. 28:43Not really. There's no bad crowd because
  711. 28:46he's the only good one in the society.
  712. 28:48He's a rebel by being good, not a rebel
  713. 28:50by being bad.
  714. 28:52Right? Eventually, not only his father,
  715. 28:56the entire societ, everyone is calling
  716. 28:59him weird. Everyone is saying, "We hate
  717. 29:02you." Everyone is now saying, "You know
  718. 29:04what? Let's throw him into a fire.
  719. 29:08Let's throw him into a fire." By the
  720. 29:10way, go step back. Who used to build the
  721. 29:12idols?
  722. 29:14His father. And who destroyed the idols?
  723. 29:18So the father built the idols and the
  724. 29:19son destroyed the idols. So now who is
  725. 29:23the most angry with him?
  726. 29:26His father. So when they're throwing him
  727. 29:27in throwing him in the fire, who's okay
  728. 29:30with it?
  729. 29:32Even his father's okay with it.
  730. 29:34Even his father's okay with it. And he's
  731. 29:37about to be thrown into a fire. Is that
  732. 29:39traumatic that you see your dad okay
  733. 29:41with you being burned alive? Is that
  734. 29:44traumatic?
  735. 29:47can very traumatic. You're right, young
  736. 29:49man.
  737. 29:50>> Very traumatic. Okay, so that's one
  738. 29:52that's just one prophet.
  739. 29:54>> We are called It is weird.
  740. 29:59We are now experiencing we're we're
  741. 30:01looking at these prophets and we're
  742. 30:04understanding that what they experience
  743. 30:06is not a small amount of trauma. It's
  744. 30:08extreme.
  745. 30:10It's an extreme form of trauma. as a
  746. 30:11young man, as a child. Let's go to
  747. 30:14Lutisam.
  748. 30:16Does he experience trauma?
  749. 30:19He's an old man in the story. He's not a
  750. 30:22young man. He's an old man. So, we saw
  751. 30:24the experience of a child in right after
  752. 30:26that we're seeing the experience of an
  753. 30:28old man.
  754. 30:30What kind of negative feelings is Lisam
  755. 30:34experiencing? Can you give me some idea?
  756. 30:38>> Disappointment or something more?
  757. 30:42loneliness. Nobody agrees with him. He
  758. 30:44feels alone. No support.
  759. 30:47Betrayal by his own people. Can't trust
  760. 30:49anybody.
  761. 30:51>> What else
  762. 30:53is he trying to help them understand
  763. 30:55something?
  764. 30:57>> You're you're a prophet. Allah chooses
  765. 30:59the prophets because they're very good
  766. 31:00at communication. One of the reasons he
  767. 31:03chooses prophets is they're very good at
  768. 31:04communicating. So, he's doing everything
  769. 31:06he can to communicate with these people.
  770. 31:09Are they understanding him?
  771. 31:12>> No.
  772. 31:14Imagine you're trying to communicate.
  773. 31:16You're being logical. You're being
  774. 31:17reasonable. You're doing everything you
  775. 31:19can properly. And the people in front of
  776. 31:21you, instead of them agreeing with you,
  777. 31:22they're disagreeing with you even more.
  778. 31:24And they're getting even more aggressive
  779. 31:26and more aggressive. Is that
  780. 31:27frustrating?
  781. 31:32The way that the the frustration of
  782. 31:35Lutisam is described. The way his
  783. 31:38frustration is and plus he's an old man.
  784. 31:40He can't even defend his guests. He
  785. 31:43can't defend his family. He's feeling
  786. 31:46helpless.
  787. 31:47So he's helpless. He's alone. He's
  788. 31:50frustrated. He has no support. Are these
  789. 31:55feelings? When somebody's sitting in a
  790. 31:56therapy somewhere, do you feel helpless?
  791. 31:59Do you feel you don't have any support?
  792. 32:02Do you feel alone? Do you feel like
  793. 32:04nobody understands you? Do you feel like
  794. 32:06you're trying to communicate, but the
  795. 32:07people on the other side keep getting
  796. 32:08angry and they don't understand what
  797. 32:10you're trying to say? No matter how
  798. 32:11clearly you say, you can't get across to
  799. 32:13them. Are these common experiences
  800. 32:16in people's lives? Yeah.
  801. 32:19Yeah. Lisam is experiencing it.
  802. 32:23You go a little further
  803. 32:26and actually
  804. 32:30Go to newam
  805. 32:33surah keeps going one trauma Ibraim
  806. 32:36another trauma the next trauma
  807. 32:41he's talking to one generation of people
  808. 32:43they don't listen to him the next
  809. 32:45generation comes he has hope they'll
  810. 32:47listen to him do they listen to him no
  811. 32:50and the next generation no
  812. 32:54he keeps trying and trying and trying
  813. 32:57with new people and new people and new
  814. 32:59people and they keep giving him the same
  815. 33:00results over and over and over and over
  816. 33:02again. His own son doesn't listen to
  817. 33:04him. His wife doesn't listen to him. The
  818. 33:06generations, new generations don't
  819. 33:08listen to him. The next generation
  820. 33:09doesn't listen to him. He's there for
  821. 33:11950 years and nobody practically
  822. 33:13nobody's listening to him. Is it
  823. 33:16possible that you keep trying something
  824. 33:17and trying something and trying
  825. 33:18something and trying something and you
  826. 33:20don't see results year after year, month
  827. 33:22after month, year after year, attempt
  828. 33:24after attempt? What feeling do you
  829. 33:26experience?
  830. 33:28You feel pain. You feel hopeless.
  831. 33:32You feel depressed. You start saying,
  832. 33:33"What's the point? Why am I doing this?
  833. 33:37Nothing's working. Nothing's changing.
  834. 33:39There's there's no reason for me to keep
  835. 33:40going. Even my own son doesn't listen to
  836. 33:42me. Even my own wife hates me." And then
  837. 33:47at the end of his story, at the very end
  838. 33:49of his story, he's trying to save his
  839. 33:51son. He still loves his son
  840. 33:53and his son refuses to be saved.
  841. 33:56Are there people who experience that
  842. 33:59they have a child, they're trying to
  843. 34:01save that child, and that child refuses
  844. 34:03to be saved? Does that happen today?
  845. 34:06Does that happen in families?
  846. 34:09They're trying everything. They're
  847. 34:11trying to bring him back. Doesn't want
  848. 34:13to listen. Doesn't want to listen. Wants
  849. 34:16to drown. Are there people also that
  850. 34:19tried to save their children, tried to
  851. 34:21save their young son, their teenage son,
  852. 34:23their 20-year-old, their 22-y old? They
  853. 34:24tried to save their daughter and they
  854. 34:26couldn't save them and they lost them.
  855. 34:28Did that happen? Yeah.
  856. 34:32Just like the story of who?
  857. 34:35He's experienced the trauma of trying
  858. 34:37and trying and trying and not even being
  859. 34:40able to get through to his own family,
  860. 34:42not to mention generations of people.
  861. 34:45And by the way, there's another part of
  862. 34:47this.
  863. 34:50Feels like Allah gave him a mission.
  864. 34:52Yes.
  865. 34:54The He's a messenger. What's his
  866. 34:56mission?
  867. 34:57What's his mission? He's supposed to do
  868. 34:59what?
  869. 35:01>> Give his message. Does he feel like he
  870. 35:03succeeded in giving his message?
  871. 35:05>> No.
  872. 35:06>> I don't think he feels like he succeeded
  873. 35:08in giving the message.
  874. 35:10If the entire population of believers
  875. 35:13can fit on one boat,
  876. 35:16that's not a big population.
  877. 35:19That's not a big So, it doesn't feel
  878. 35:21like a success for him.
  879. 35:23And on top of that, he lost his own
  880. 35:25family.
  881. 35:26Does he is there a possibility there's a
  882. 35:28feeling like I failed?
  883. 35:31So not only did I fail people, I failed
  884. 35:33my family, I who does he feel he failed?
  885. 35:36Possibly you fail Allahhana wa tala
  886. 35:40Allah is not happy with me. Is it
  887. 35:41possible a parent today actually I even
  888. 35:43met a parent today who said I'm trying
  889. 35:45to talk to my son. He doesn't pray. He
  890. 35:46doesn't listen. I'm afraid Allah is
  891. 35:49angry with me. I have failed Allah.
  892. 35:52And the moment she said that I
  893. 35:54remembered who
  894. 35:56knew your trauma is in the Quran.
  895. 36:00It was experienced by someone. It was
  896. 36:03experienced by nuisam.
  897. 36:05Maybe Allah is not happy with me because
  898. 36:06I wasn't able to save my son. Maybe
  899. 36:09Allah is not happy with me because I
  900. 36:10wasn't able to save my spouse or my
  901. 36:12nation.
  902. 36:14This is the same fear that
  903. 36:17Allah told him.
  904. 36:22Maybe you're going to kill yourself in
  905. 36:24depression because you keep thinking
  906. 36:26that these people aren't listening and
  907. 36:27the effect of them not listening is
  908. 36:29killing you.
  909. 36:32Don't be don't stop being sad over them.
  910. 36:34The prophet was told, now listen to
  911. 36:36these words. I gave you two words that
  912. 36:37were heavy emotions. What were the two
  913. 36:39words?
  914. 36:41And and what do you remember about let's
  915. 36:44see if you remember
  916. 36:47something solid something strong that
  917. 36:49doesn't leave listen Allah says about
  918. 36:57we rescued N
  919. 37:00and his family
  920. 37:02from
  921. 37:05a great KB.
  922. 37:07We rescued him from a great
  923. 37:11kar is a feeling that never leaves.
  924. 37:14Remember that is a feeling that stays.
  925. 37:16And Allah said, "I saved him from that
  926. 37:20feeling." He was suffering from that
  927. 37:22feeling and Allah eventually lifted that
  928. 37:25feeling from him.
  929. 37:27So, can trauma be removed?
  930. 37:30In the Quran, can long-term trauma,
  931. 37:33trauma that's been there for 950 years,
  932. 37:36can it be removed? Yeah. Yeah. Allah can
  933. 37:40and Allah did not say he rescued him
  934. 37:42from the he rescued him from the flood.
  935. 37:45He rescued him from the in this ayah. He
  936. 37:48says he rescued him from the
  937. 37:50because this is also a kind of adab.
  938. 37:53This is also a kind of punishment or not
  939. 37:56for torture. And this you need to be
  940. 37:58rescued from too. There's storms outside
  941. 38:00and there's storms inside. And Allah
  942. 38:01says he rescued him from the storm
  943. 38:03inside. Okay, let's keep going.
  944. 38:08Right after the story of Nisam, we see
  945. 38:10something very strange. We see Allah
  946. 38:13mentioning Dud and
  947. 38:16so let's see if you can remember the
  948. 38:18list who was mentioned so far in order
  949. 38:21Ibrahimam then
  950. 38:25Alam and now
  951. 38:31okay what Allah says about them Allah
  952. 38:34says says,
  953. 38:42"Allah gave
  954. 38:45power over mountains
  955. 38:47and he gave him power over birds."
  956. 38:52So, so and we made we taught him how to
  957. 38:55make armor meaning bend steel
  958. 38:59like Allah says. Okay.
  959. 39:02And was given power over the wind.
  960. 39:06Dud has power over mountains and birds.
  961. 39:09And he can bend metal. And has power
  962. 39:12over the winds.
  963. 39:15And he gave him power over
  964. 39:18who go diving for him. So they go
  965. 39:26every other situation before
  966. 39:29somebody was powerless. You notice that
  967. 39:32Ibraimisam is powerless with his dad.
  968. 39:36Nutam is powerless with his people. Nam
  969. 39:39is powerless with his family. All of a
  970. 39:41sudden two prophets who seem to have
  971. 39:43what?
  972. 39:45They have a lot of power.
  973. 39:47And not only do they have power over
  974. 39:49they had kingdom, they had they had
  975. 39:51armies and military. So they have power
  976. 39:53over people. People will do what they
  977. 39:55say whether they like it or not. Even
  978. 39:57are doing what they say whether they
  979. 39:59like it or not.
  980. 40:01Even
  981. 40:03so Allah mentioned people that were
  982. 40:05traumatized and helpless and powerless
  983. 40:07and all of a sudden he mentioned people
  984. 40:09that are extremely powerful. Extremely
  985. 40:12powerful right after that and then by
  986. 40:15the way just to show you right after
  987. 40:17them we'll come back to them in a
  988. 40:19second. Right after them, Allah says
  989. 40:24Allah mentions and Alisam didn't even
  990. 40:27have power over his own body.
  991. 40:31Not even over his own body. We saw
  992. 40:33prophets who don't have power over their
  993. 40:34dad. They don't have control over their
  994. 40:36wife or son. They don't have control
  995. 40:37over their society. They don't have
  996. 40:39control over no control. No control. And
  997. 40:41now you get to such an extreme. He
  998. 40:44doesn't even have control over what? His
  999. 40:46own body. his own body. His own body is
  1000. 40:50rebelling against him. It's not people
1001. 40:52who are hurting him. The body's hurting
1002. 40:53him. The body is hurting him. So Allah
  1003. 40:56mentions helplessness, helplessness,
1004. 40:57helplessness. And in the middle of that,
1005. 40:59he mentions two people that are
1006. 41:01extremely powerful that teach us
1007. 41:03something very powerful among many
1008. 41:05things. I'll just focus on one thing.
  1009. 41:07There's a saying that a friend of mine
1010. 41:08told me. I really like it. The bigger
  1011. 41:11your garden,
  1012. 41:13the bigger the snakes.
1013. 41:17The bigger your garden, what did he say?
1014. 41:20The bigger the snakes. If you saw has
1015. 41:24kingdom and he has power and he has
1016. 41:25military and he has armies and he has
1017. 41:28all this empire. You know what? The more
1018. 41:31power you have, the more snakes you
  1019. 41:34have. You don't know who's trying to
1020. 41:37stab you in the back. You don't because
1021. 41:39and by the way you don't have to have
1022. 41:41the kingdom of daud and you guys you
1023. 41:45started a business and it was you were
1024. 41:48just selling it on the street and then
  1025. 41:50eventually you opened up a restaurant.
1026. 41:51Now you own five restaurants,
1027. 41:53right? And back then things were
1028. 41:56different. Nobody liked you. Then your
  1029. 41:57cousins didn't like you. Nobody invited
1030. 41:59you. Now you own five restaurants. And
1031. 42:01so all of a sudden everybody wants you
1032. 42:03to come over to their house for aid
1033. 42:06and those cousins are really nice to you
  1034. 42:08now.
1035. 42:10And they all have a great business idea
  1036. 42:11for you.
  1037. 42:17All of them.
1038. 42:19But is it possible that some of them are
1039. 42:20they they talk really nice in front of
1040. 42:22you and please come please come visit us
1041. 42:24for aid. Please come to see us in Raman
1042. 42:27because when you they know when you come
1043. 42:28with aid you're going to come with
  1044. 42:29stuff,
1045. 42:30right? And the moment you leave, who
1046. 42:32does he think he is? He's got all this
1047. 42:34money. He thinks he's better than us.
1048. 42:35Oh, just cuz he moved to Belgium
  1049. 42:39and we're still in Vabat,
  1050. 42:45right?
1051. 42:48You when you become more successful,
1052. 42:49when you Allah gives you more, you have
1053. 42:52to deal with more hypocrisy.
1054. 42:54You have to deal with people that are
  1055. 42:56not sincere with you.
1056. 42:58Allah even mentions in the army ofam or
1057. 43:02yes he has power over the but are the
1058. 43:06sincere to him or no is the question by
  1059. 43:09definition what are they
1060. 43:12he has control over people that want to
  1061. 43:14see him dead
  1062. 43:16they want to destroy him it's a
  1063. 43:19different kind of problem it's a
  1064. 43:21different kind of stress it's a
1065. 43:23different kind of anxiety because you
1066. 43:24don't see your enemy with nam He sees
1067. 43:27his enemy. With Alam, he sees his
1068. 43:30problems. They see their problems.
1069. 43:32That's one kind of anxiety and stress.
  1070. 43:34But when you're in a position of power,
1071. 43:36you could be shaking hands with your
  1072. 43:37worst enemy.
1073. 43:40You could be sitting right next to your
1074. 43:41worst enemy. You don't even know. You
1075. 43:43don't even know. And that's not and
1076. 43:45they're not people in power. They're not
1077. 43:47blind. They know that they have these
1078. 43:50dangers. And these dangers are also a
1079. 43:52kind of stress and anxiety and concern,
1080. 43:56right? It's its own problem. That is its
1081. 43:58own problem. So even though Allah
1082. 43:59mentions all the power they had
1083. 44:01implicitly underneath that power is also
1084. 44:03a huge set of what? Problems. Huge set
  1085. 44:06of problems.
  1086. 44:08Okay.
1087. 44:11I already told you he has no power over
  1088. 44:12what?
1089. 44:14His own body. His own body.
1090. 44:18And allahel says about him,
  1091. 44:23harm has touched me.
1092. 44:26He's now turning to Allah and saying,
1093. 44:28I'm feeling the effects of the harm on
1094. 44:31me. And even though he was sick for a
1095. 44:33long time and hurting for a long time,
  1096. 44:36the way that he's saying it, it's almost
  1097. 44:37describing it's now starting to affect
1098. 44:39the way I feel also, the way I my my
  1099. 44:42worship. I don't want it to affect my
  1100. 44:44worship. I don't want it to affect my
  1101. 44:46relationship with you, ya Allah. It's
  1102. 44:48getting to a point where it's starting
1103. 44:49to the trauma is starting to get to me.
  1104. 44:52Look, I'm reaching a point where I have
1105. 44:54to lodge a complaint. I have to say this
1106. 44:57is this is reaching a red critical
1107. 44:58state. It got to a point, you know,
1108. 45:01prophets can tolerate a lot. They can
1109. 45:03tolerate a lot. The fact that he even
1110. 45:05said this means it it got to a very
1111. 45:07extreme stage to the point where he had
1112. 45:10to say this. But he got to he had to
1113. 45:12even say this. And then of course after
  1114. 45:15that there are prophets we don't know a
1115. 45:16lot about. We know some things about
1116. 45:18like isam is mentioned isam any trauma
  1117. 45:22in his life possibly.
1118. 45:24>> What what was the trauma?
  1119. 45:27>> Huh?
1120. 45:27>> Divorce is divor. No no no not in Quran.
  1121. 45:30In Quran
  1122. 45:32>> before the sacrifice
  1123. 45:36>> he left.
1124. 45:38>> My dad left and I've been raised by a
  1125. 45:40single mom.
  1126. 45:43And then when I was a young kid, wasn't
1127. 45:45even a teenager yet, my dad came back. I
1128. 45:48was so happy. We used to go running
1129. 45:49together. And then one day, my dad says,
1130. 45:52"Come on, son. Let's go to the
1131. 45:53mountain." And you know what my dad did?
1132. 45:57My dad said he saw a dream.
1133. 46:00I don't have to fill in the blanks, do
  1134. 46:01I?
1135. 46:04First of all, I was a lot safer when you
  1136. 46:06were not here.
1137. 46:08You come back. I'm so happy my dad is
1138. 46:11back in my life. I feel safe again. You
1139. 46:14know my and he what does he want to do?
  1140. 46:19>> I I keep seeing that I'm I'm uh
  1141. 46:21slaughtering you.
1142. 46:24I keep seeing that I'm slaughtering you.
1143. 46:25By the way, I've given a lecture on why
  1144. 46:27that's in the Quran.
1145. 46:29Because Christians and Jews have a big
1146. 46:31problem because people leave their
1147. 46:32religion because of the story. They say,
1148. 46:34"What kind of a God wants you to
  1149. 46:36slaughter your own child?"
1150. 46:38And we have the same story, right?
1151. 46:41And we say, "No, this is just a test
  1152. 46:42from Allahhana." And that's not enough
  1153. 46:43of an answer, buddy.
1154. 46:45That's not enough of an answer. So, I've
1155. 46:47done a whole lecture on just the
1156. 46:48sacrifice, just that sacrifice and what
1157. 46:51it means in the Quran and how it's
1158. 46:52different from the Bible. Completely,
  1159. 46:54completely different. But anyway, that's
  1160. 46:56not today.
1161. 46:58Isam is traumatized also as a child. And
1162. 47:02not only is traumatized, Ibraim is
1163. 47:04traumatized all over again because when
1164. 47:06he was a child, his father tried to kill
  1165. 47:08him.
1166. 47:09And when your father tried to kill you,
1167. 47:11you say, "One day I will have a child
1168. 47:12and I will never let my child get hurt
1169. 47:14like the way my dad tried to hurt me."
1170. 47:16And how did Allah test him? Go do what?
  1171. 47:20Slaughter your child.
  1172. 47:25That's got a that's a test on a test.
1173. 47:28That's That's some kind of test for the
1174. 47:30father and for the son. That's pretty
  1175. 47:33traumatic.
1176. 47:34You keep going. And by the way, this
1177. 47:36test did not come from the people. Who
  1178. 47:37did it come from?
1179. 47:39It c it comes from obeying Allah.
1180. 47:42This test is different from all the
  1181. 47:44others.
1182. 47:45It came from what? Obeying Allah.
1183. 47:49The test of Ibrahimam came from someone
  1184. 47:51who's disobedient to Allah.
1185. 47:54The test of l and you know
1186. 47:58came from people who are rebelling
1187. 47:59against Allah. Right? The test of even
1188. 48:04in power is coming from someone who want
1189. 48:06to rebel against Allah underneath their
1190. 48:09power. Okay. The test of now the test of
1191. 48:13aub now things are changing. The test of
1192. 48:15a yub is not coming from people. It's
1193. 48:16coming from Allah. His body is not
  1194. 48:18responding. He's sick. Who controls the
  1195. 48:21body? Allahel. There's no there's no
  1196. 48:24other person involved. There's no person
1197. 48:26involved. This is a test from Allah
1198. 48:29directly. And this is more indirect
1199. 48:31because this is the creation of Allah.
1200. 48:33But by the time you get to isam, it's
  1201. 48:35Allah's command
  1202. 48:38to slaughter.
1203. 48:39Is it possible that Allah is commanding
1204. 48:41you to do something and if you do it,
1205. 48:43you're going to be traumatized?
1206. 48:46I'll give you an example. You're like,
1207. 48:47"No, no, no. If you obey Allah subhana
  1208. 48:49wa ta'ala, you can never be
1209. 48:50traumatized." Yes, you can. Let me
  1210. 48:52traumatize you.
  1211. 48:56Allah says, "Be honest,
  1212. 49:00right?
  1213. 49:01Speak straight forward."
1214. 49:04You decide to be honest with your
  1215. 49:06husband.
1216. 49:09You've been keeping something inside.
1217. 49:10And you decide just going to say it.
  1218. 49:14You were thinking a million times I
1219. 49:16shouldn't say it because if I say it,
1220. 49:18he's going to be angry. If I say it,
1221. 49:19he's going to divorce me. If I say it,
1222. 49:21he's going to move back to Afghanistan.
  1223. 49:23If I say it, he's going to hit me. If I
1224. 49:26say it, I'm going to be in trouble. If I
1225. 49:28say it, if I say it, if I say it, and
1226. 49:29you decide, you know what? I'm going to
1227. 49:30fear Allah. And I'm just going to what?
1228. 49:33I'm just going to say it. Could it be
1229. 49:36that speaking the truth will get you in
  1230. 49:39a lot of trouble?
  1231. 49:42Mhm.
1232. 49:44Speaking the truth will get you thrown
1233. 49:45in a fire. Speaking the truth will get
  1234. 49:49you get slaughtered.
1235. 49:52It's it's much easier to hide the truth
1236. 49:54than to speak the truth. To speak the
  1237. 49:57truth.
  1238. 49:59There's a there's a family that I knew a
1239. 50:02long time ago. They were in the bar
1240. 50:06business. They owned a bunch of bars.
1241. 50:09One guy in the family decides he doesn't
1242. 50:11want to sell alcohol anymore.
1243. 50:14They make a lot of money from bars. A
1244. 50:16lot. He decides he doesn't want to sell
  1245. 50:19alcohol anymore.
1246. 50:20He didn't tell anyone because if he told
1247. 50:22them they would beat him up, they go
1248. 50:24crazy. They don't just sell the alcohol.
  1249. 50:27They also, you know,
1250. 50:31so he but he finally decides to tell
1251. 50:33them. They beat him up. They kidnap him.
1252. 50:36They try to take him to the another
1253. 50:37country. They try to scare him. They
1254. 50:39take his house. They his life became
  1255. 50:42hell only because
1256. 50:44he decided what Allah has made haram I
1257. 50:46will not touch. Just because of that.
1258. 50:49And the people who hurt him were not
1259. 50:51some enemy from outside. It wasn't some
  1260. 50:52government. It wasn't some foreign
1261. 50:54agency. Who was hurting him? His own
1262. 50:57family. His own family. Do you see that
1263. 51:00in many of these stories, the people who
1264. 51:01are causing the pain are their own
1265. 51:03family? Do you see the common thre
  1266. 51:05trend? It's their own family that's
  1267. 51:07causing the pain. Okay,
  1268. 51:10we keep going. I I actually missed one.
1269. 51:15We skip one in the middle. This is unus
  1270. 51:20like he's giving a message to his
  1271. 51:22people. They're not listening.
1272. 51:25I keep trying to explain something to
  1273. 51:26you. You're not listening. I keep
  1274. 51:27explaining. You're not listening. I keep
  1275. 51:28explaining. You're not listening.
  1276. 51:31I had enough of this. I'm done. I'm
  1277. 51:34done. Look, I'm giving you guys a
  1278. 51:35lecture right now. You're li You're
1279. 51:36sitting like civilized human beings. But
1280. 51:39if you started all of you yelling,
  1281. 51:40screaming, spitting, throwing shoes,
  1282. 51:42whatever.
1283. 51:45I'll speak for 10 more seconds. Calm
1284. 51:47down, guys. Come on. I'm not that. But
  1285. 51:48eventually, what will I do?
1286. 51:51I'm out of here. I'm not coming back to
1287. 51:54Jenk ever again. This place is
1288. 51:58Don't even bring that. I get traumatized
  1289. 52:00when someone even mentions Belgium. I
  1290. 52:02don't even I won't even have a Belgian
  1291. 52:03waffle anymore.
  1292. 52:05I'll be done.
1293. 52:08Give me every other kind of chocolate.
  1294. 52:12Why? Because I'm traumatized by the
  1295. 52:15experience.
1296. 52:16I don't want to deal with it.
1297. 52:19If you got insulted at your job and you
1298. 52:22quit, you're going to go walk back into
1299. 52:23the office again with a smile and say hi
1300. 52:27to those same people. Never again. It's
  1301. 52:29human.
1302. 52:31Yunus Alam is being insulted by these
1303. 52:33people, rejected by these people day in
1304. 52:34day in day in day in and we just he
  1305. 52:37walked away. He's like I can't take this
1306. 52:39anymore. He walks away. Is that a human
1307. 52:40thing to do? Is that a human emotion? Is
  1308. 52:43it understandable?
1309. 52:45It's so dehumanizing when we think of
1310. 52:48this story and say he disobeyed
  1311. 52:50Allahhana. It's not that easy.
1312. 52:52First of all, put yourself in that
1313. 52:54situation to understand what happened
  1314. 52:55here.
1315. 52:57when he was so enraged, they keep making
1316. 53:00him angry. And actually is a response.
1317. 53:03It's so it's it's got in it. It reacts
  1318. 53:07to something. It's
1319. 53:10so what what does this mean? It means
1320. 53:12that they kept doing things on purpose
1321. 53:15that they know make him angry until they
1322. 53:17would get that reaction out of him. And
1323. 53:19eventually they got that reaction out of
1324. 53:21him and he walked away. They knew what
1325. 53:23would work. There are people in your
1326. 53:25life, they know exactly how to
  1327. 53:29get under your skin.
1328. 53:32They know exactly what to say. See, I
  1329. 53:35knew it.
  1330. 53:37You're always like that.
  1331. 53:41H lazy like I always said.
1332. 53:45They know just the word that sets a fire
1333. 53:47inside you and they use it just and then
1334. 53:50and then when you get angry. Ah, so this
  1335. 53:52is your subur, huh?
1336. 53:55This is your sabar. Yeah, I see.
1337. 53:58Want to give a next week about sabar.
  1338. 54:02Okay.
1339. 54:06And they did this with witham.
1340. 54:10Now he gets angry in that moment. He
1341. 54:12walks away. And we know what happens
1342. 54:13with him. And when he's when he's in the
1343. 54:15whale, I want you to tell me if you had
1344. 54:18a camera on the emotions of Yunam. We're
1345. 54:20talking about his emotions. What is he
  1346. 54:22feeling?
1347. 54:24Okay, the anger is gone. What's he
  1348. 54:25feeling now?
  1349. 54:28He's feeling regret.
1350. 54:31He's feeling like nothing will ever get
  1351. 54:33better.
1352. 54:35He's feeling that he disappointed who?
  1353. 54:38Allah subhana wa ta'ala. There's
1354. 54:41something in him that never goes away.
1355. 54:43It's going to overshadow everything he
  1356. 54:45does.
1357. 54:47This is going to overshadow everything
  1358. 54:49he does. is there's a mistake I made.
1359. 54:51This mistake will follow me everywhere
1360. 54:52in my life. It will never go away. And
  1361. 54:55no matter what I experience, this
1362. 54:57mistake will always have its shadow on
  1363. 54:59me.
1364. 55:00What's the kind of depression that has a
1365. 55:02shadow on you and it covers something?
  1366. 55:04And
1367. 55:13we responded to him and we rescued him
  1368. 55:15from
1369. 55:18We rescued him. Allah rescued you knowam
  1370. 55:23from what
1371. 55:27and he he rescued in this case Yunus
  1372. 55:30Alam from what
1373. 55:34the numbness was taken away. His joy
1374. 55:37could come back. His optimism could come
1375. 55:39back. He doesn't live in shame anymore.
1376. 55:41The shame is not following him
1377. 55:42everywhere. The guilt is not following
1378. 55:44him everywhere. The guilt is not
  1379. 55:46overcasting and overshadowing everything
  1380. 55:47he does. He's not constantly judging
  1381. 55:50himself. He's not beating himself up
  1382. 55:53anymore because the has he's been
1383. 55:55rescued from the Allah says.
1384. 55:59But Allah didn't stop there. Allah said,
1385. 56:01listen to this so beautiful.
1386. 56:05And that is also how we rescue
  1387. 56:06believers.
1388. 56:09Allah did not just rescue ununice from
1389. 56:12Allah says and we also rescue who?
1390. 56:16All believers. So this was not just a
1391. 56:19story. This is something I offering to
1392. 56:21everyone. I can let you escape your
1393. 56:25there are people in your life that want
1394. 56:27to keep you in H. You know that there
1395. 56:30are people in your life they like to
1396. 56:31remind you what you did. They remind you
1397. 56:34of your mistake. They remind you of the
1398. 56:36time you got angry like Ununus got
  1399. 56:38angry.
1400. 56:40They remind you of what you said. They
1401. 56:42remind you of what happened 5 years ago,
1402. 56:4410 years ago, 15. They remind you to you
1403. 56:48know what you did. You know what you
1404. 56:50did. You know what you did over and over
1405. 56:52again. And why? Because once you once
1406. 56:55they say that to you, you will feel the
1407. 56:56shame come back. You will feel the guilt
1408. 56:58come back. You will feel the burden come
1409. 57:00back. And you will be suppressed. So the
1410. 57:02next time you're about to speak the
1411. 57:04truth, they'll say, "Who are you to
1412. 57:05speak the truth?" Remember what you did
  1413. 57:0610 years ago.
1414. 57:08Remember that? And you're just back in
1415. 57:13back in. If yall tries to give dawa and
1416. 57:16somebody says, "Oh, you're going to give
1417. 57:17dawa. What are you going to do if I
1418. 57:18don't listen? Get angry? You're going to
  1419. 57:20walk away again?"
1420. 57:23But they can make those comments. They
1421. 57:26can say that. But he is not affected by
1422. 57:28those comments anymore because Allah has
  1423. 57:30rescued him from what? From they're
1424. 57:33trying to put the on him. It's not
  1425. 57:34working. It's not working. He's been
1426. 57:37he's been freed from it. He's been freed
1427. 57:39from it. Okay. Final one.
  1428. 57:43By the way, there's one thing about he's
  1429. 57:46in the whale. He's disappointed Allah.
1430. 57:50He's also sad about not just what
1431. 57:52happened in the past, but what's the
  1432. 57:54future? He's thinking about the future.
1433. 57:57And speaking of the future, you get the
1434. 57:58final story. You get the story of Miam.
1435. 58:03Okay. The story of Miam, especially when
1436. 58:06she was giving birth to Isaam is
1437. 58:08mentioned in some detail in the Quran.
1438. 58:10Um, if if you're in the place of Miam,
  1439. 58:14she's having the child.
1440. 58:18What is she experiencing? What kind of
  1441. 58:19trauma is she experiencing?
  1442. 58:23What do you think?
  1443. 58:24Ladies, your turn.
  1444. 58:27>> Come on. She's your rep.
  1445. 58:30>> Shame,
  1446. 58:33>> pain,
  1447. 58:35loneliness,
  1448. 58:37anxiety,
  1449. 58:41>> terrified,
  1450. 58:42terrified.
1451. 58:45What does she What does she want to do?
  1452. 58:48If you were in a situation where you're
1453. 58:50about to be shamed by the world, you're
  1454. 58:53in a situation where everybody's about
  1455. 58:54to humiliate you, they're about to
1456. 58:56accuse you, they're about to say all
1457. 58:59kinds of comments to you, they're about
1458. 59:01to point the finger at you and nobody
1459. 59:03will defend you. Everybody will look at
  1460. 59:04you and say
1461. 59:15if that was the case, if that was the
1462. 59:18case, what would you feel?
1463. 59:23You'd want to be dead.
1464. 59:26She wished she could be dead.
  1465. 59:29I'd rather I'd rather run away. If I
1466. 59:30can't run away, I just want to run away
  1467. 59:32from this life.
1468. 59:33The fear of humiliation is a huge fear.
1469. 59:38The fear not just of death. She just
1470. 59:40she's not afraid of death. What is she
  1471. 59:42afraid of? Humiliation.
1472. 59:45The fear that I will be attacked
1473. 59:47verbally. I will be looked at with no
  1474. 59:50dignity. I will lose my respect as a
  1475. 59:52human being. That's not a small fear.
1476. 59:55It's extremely traumatic. extremely so
1477. 59:58extreme that that that embarrassment can
1478. 1:00:01make someone want to kill themselves
1479. 1:00:04in the western world. Are there people
1480. 1:00:07who get exposed in some kind of
  1481. 1:00:09political scandal, media scandal,
  1482. 1:00:11celebrities
1483. 1:00:13and they commit suicide? Does that
1484. 1:00:14happen? Yeah. These are people that are
1485. 1:00:18supposed to have no hay. They have
1486. 1:00:19they're supposed to have no shame,
1487. 1:00:21right? So they do whatever they want.
  1488. 1:00:23It's okay. It's scandal. What's the big
1489. 1:00:24deal? But even these people when it
1490. 1:00:26comes to humiliation, they would prefer
  1491. 1:00:28what over humiliation?
  1492. 1:00:31Death.
1493. 1:00:32Death. That's how extreme it is. They
1494. 1:00:34got to the And it's almost as if Allah
1495. 1:00:36mentioned all these traumas and the most
1496. 1:00:37extreme trauma is at the end. And the
1497. 1:00:39most extreme trauma is the trauma of
  1498. 1:00:40humiliation
  1499. 1:00:42of humiliation.
1500. 1:00:45He put that at the end.
  1501. 1:00:47And she says,
  1502. 1:00:50"Subhan Allah,
  1503. 1:00:52that's a lot of trauma.
1504. 1:00:54The Quran mentions quite a bit of heavy
1505. 1:00:58heavy heavy emotions that these prophets
  1506. 1:01:01experience. So let's take some
  1507. 1:01:03takeaways.
1508. 1:01:04What this lecture was all about. What
  1509. 1:01:07was this?
  1510. 1:01:10Very good.
1511. 1:01:12Look at this words. I bet you never
1512. 1:01:14heard these words like this before.
1513. 1:01:15You've heard this ayah, but not like
1514. 1:01:16this. Listen to this ayah.
1515. 1:01:24This all of this is your um
1516. 1:01:29a single um and I am your r so worship
  1517. 1:01:33me.
1518. 1:01:35What is he referring to as this is your
1519. 1:01:38um who is the this
1520. 1:01:42all these prophets and everything they
1521. 1:01:44experienced is your um the word um
1522. 1:01:46doesn't just mean nation um means
1523. 1:01:48direction. This is the same direction
1524. 1:01:51your life will go in also.
1525. 1:01:53A is a people united by ethnicity and um
  1526. 1:01:57is a people united by direction.
1527. 1:02:01That's why Allah says from the same word
1528. 1:02:06go in the direction of pure pure dirt.
  1529. 1:02:08When you
1530. 1:02:09don't have water, it's from the same
  1531. 1:02:11word.
1532. 1:02:13The im is someone who dictates your
  1533. 1:02:14direction.
1534. 1:02:16I am in Arabic is something right in
1535. 1:02:17front of you that dictates your front
  1536. 1:02:19direction.
1537. 1:02:20Um is a people that are united by what
1538. 1:02:24direction. And the implic implication
1539. 1:02:26here is these people their life was
1540. 1:02:28headed in these directions. And you
  1541. 1:02:30people because you're from the same
1542. 1:02:31nation your lives will also go in the
1543. 1:02:34same direction and all of them there all
1544. 1:02:37of you altogether I'm your worship me.
1545. 1:02:44I started with something about Freud. Do
  1546. 1:02:45you remember?
1547. 1:02:47And Freudian psychology mentions that
1548. 1:02:50the world is inside you and then you
1549. 1:02:52have to experience your emotions. You
1550. 1:02:54remember that your your your traumatic
1551. 1:02:57experiences dictate your life. In Islam,
  1552. 1:03:02there's a relationship you have
  1553. 1:03:05before
1554. 1:03:07the relationship you had with your body.
  1555. 1:03:09You already had a relationship that
  1556. 1:03:10existed.
1557. 1:03:13Because really psychology is about
1558. 1:03:14relationships. The relationship with you
1559. 1:03:16have in in western psychology it's about
1560. 1:03:18the relationship you have with yourself.
1561. 1:03:21Because the oldest relationship you have
1562. 1:03:23in western psychology is who?
  1563. 1:03:26>> Yourself. That's the oldest relationship
1564. 1:03:28you have. In Islam before we came to
  1565. 1:03:30this earth, we already had a
  1566. 1:03:33relationship
  1567. 1:03:34with who?
  1568. 1:03:37With Allah.
1569. 1:03:39We already had a relationship before we
1570. 1:03:42even came to this earth with Allah.
  1571. 1:03:43We've already had a conversation with
  1572. 1:03:44Allah inn
  1573. 1:03:50our souls already existed
1574. 1:03:52and the Quran is only reminding us of a
1575. 1:03:55relationship that has already existed.
1576. 1:03:58Now tell me about healthy relationships
  1577. 1:03:59in western psychology. A healthy
  1578. 1:04:01relationship nurtures you. A healthy
  1579. 1:04:03father gives you confidence. A healthy
1580. 1:04:05mother gives you security, protection.
1581. 1:04:07You feel loved. You feel accepted. You
1582. 1:04:09feel uh safe, you feel secure. All of
1583. 1:04:12these positive attachments, right? Tell
  1584. 1:04:15me a healthy relationship with Allah,
1585. 1:04:16what does it give you?
1586. 1:04:19Does it give you safety? Does it give
1587. 1:04:21you confidence? Does it ever let you
  1588. 1:04:23feel alone?
1589. 1:04:25Does it build confidence in you? Does it
1590. 1:04:28build courage in you? Does it help you
1591. 1:04:30overcome fears? Does it make you feel
1592. 1:04:32loved? Does it make you feel protected?
1593. 1:04:34Does it give you everything you need to
  1594. 1:04:35be a secure person? Yeah.
1595. 1:04:40Allah described prophets who had good
1596. 1:04:41relationships with their wife and bad
1597. 1:04:43relationships with their wife. Allah
1598. 1:04:44described prophets who have good
1599. 1:04:45relationship with their parents and bad
1600. 1:04:46relationship with their parents. Allah
1601. 1:04:48described prophets that have good
1602. 1:04:49relationship with their family and bad
1603. 1:04:50relationship with their family. Allah
1604. 1:04:51described prophets that are healthy.
1605. 1:04:53Allah described prophet with their sick.
1606. 1:04:54So they have good relationship with
1607. 1:04:55their body and a bad relationship with
1608. 1:04:56their body. All other relationships are
  1609. 1:04:58unstable in the Quran.
1610. 1:05:01They can go in any direction.
1611. 1:05:04The only stable relationship in all of
  1612. 1:05:07these stories
1613. 1:05:10is with who? Is Allah.
1614. 1:05:14And all of these stories are different
1615. 1:05:16kinds of trauma. And when you have
  1616. 1:05:18trauma, you become unstable.
1617. 1:05:21When you have trauma, you become
1618. 1:05:22unstable. And yet all of these people
1619. 1:05:24are all remaining stable. Even though
1620. 1:05:26they're all traumatized in all very,
1621. 1:05:28very different ways. And at the end of
1622. 1:05:30all of those traumas, Allah says,
1623. 1:05:36Our relationship with Allah is actually
1624. 1:05:39something that protects us not just
1625. 1:05:40spiritually but it protects us against
1626. 1:05:43anxiety, depression, fear. It protects
1627. 1:05:46us against nervousness. It protects us
1628. 1:05:49against jealousy. It protects us against
1629. 1:05:51rage, anger. And we can have those
1630. 1:05:54emotions but we can come back to normal.
1631. 1:05:56We can come back to normal. We can come
1632. 1:05:57back to why? Because we have Allah.
1633. 1:06:01Because we have Allah. Allah does not
1634. 1:06:02give up on us. A mother can give up on a
1635. 1:06:04child. A father can give up on a child.
1636. 1:06:07A husband can give up on a wife. A wife
1637. 1:06:09can give up on a husband. A best friend
1638. 1:06:11can give up on a best friend. Every
1639. 1:06:13other relationship can stop some. And
1640. 1:06:16and even even if they don't give up,
1641. 1:06:17death can happen. Separation can happen.
  1642. 1:06:21But there's one relationship that Allah
1643. 1:06:23Allah will never give up on you. Allah
  1644. 1:06:25will never abandon you.
1645. 1:06:29Allah will never just leave you be.
1646. 1:06:32Allah will never just be angry with you
1647. 1:06:34and never be pleased with you again.
1648. 1:06:37And Allah is not Allah is better than
1649. 1:06:39every other relationship. You know why?
1650. 1:06:41Because you don't have to do much to
  1651. 1:06:42make Allah happy.
1652. 1:06:45You can make Allah very angry. You can
1653. 1:06:46do that. You can disobey Allah. You can
1654. 1:06:48commit crimes against Allah. You can do
1655. 1:06:51all kinds of terrible things. And then
1656. 1:06:53what do you have to do to fix it? I
1657. 1:06:55think you have to sacrifice a few
  1658. 1:06:57children and
1659. 1:06:59to get all the infinity stones you have
  1660. 1:07:00to kill your daughter. I don't know what
1661. 1:07:02what you got to do
1662. 1:07:05>> toba. How much money do you have to pay
1663. 1:07:07before you make Toba? Like what's the
1664. 1:07:08deposit initial deposit before Toba?
1665. 1:07:11Because if the government is angry with
  1666. 1:07:13you,
1667. 1:07:14you have to give some deposit before
1668. 1:07:16they say okay now you can have your
  1669. 1:07:18driver license back.
1670. 1:07:20If the government, if you did sin
1671. 1:07:22against somebody, you have to do
1672. 1:07:25something. If your wife is angry with
  1673. 1:07:27you,
1674. 1:07:31you can't just say sorry. She says
  1675. 1:07:34that's it.
1676. 1:07:36But oh, so that sorry, sorry. You're
  1677. 1:07:40sorry,
  1678. 1:07:43huh? Okay.
1679. 1:07:45You can say sorry for the rest of your
  1680. 1:07:47life. It doesn't mean anything. Keep
  1681. 1:07:50your sorry to yourself.
1682. 1:07:55You got to do better. You You're gonna
1683. 1:07:56you're gonna have to do better than
  1684. 1:07:57that.
1685. 1:07:59Everyone else who we disobey, we upset,
  1686. 1:08:03we disappoint.
1687. 1:08:05We have to do something to make it up.
1688. 1:08:08We have to beg and
1689. 1:08:12give gifts and make amends and
1690. 1:08:16con and even after all of even after
  1691. 1:08:17this. Okay. Okay. I forgive you. Okay, I
1692. 1:08:19forgive you. 2 months later, new fight.
  1693. 1:08:21Remember what you did 2 months ago? I
1694. 1:08:23was like, "Hey, I already paid the fees
  1695. 1:08:25for that one.
1696. 1:08:27We went on the trip. Oh, you think I
  1697. 1:08:28could just forget?
  1698. 1:08:31I can't win."
1699. 1:08:33But when you make TBA with Allah, when
1700. 1:08:36you make Toba with Allah, does Allah
  1701. 1:08:37bring up what you
  1702. 1:08:39It's gone.
  1703. 1:08:42He lets it go.
1704. 1:08:44The difference between us and the
1705. 1:08:46Christian creed is you're broken and you
  1706. 1:08:47will always be broken.
1707. 1:08:50With us, you can break and then you can
1708. 1:08:52fix again. And then you can break and
1709. 1:08:54you can what? Fix again. You keep fixing
1710. 1:08:57it. Can you get over your trauma? Yes.
1711. 1:09:00Can Allah remove the burden? Can he
1712. 1:09:03remove the Can he remove the Yeah. Did
1713. 1:09:07he only do that for prophets or is he
  1714. 1:09:08offering it to everybody?
  1715. 1:09:11Everybody. It's a very powerful message.
  1716. 1:09:14It's a very powerful message. People
  1717. 1:09:16don't forgive. Allah forgives.
  1718. 1:09:19People don't forgive. And I say it a
  1719. 1:09:22lot, but I'll say it again.
1720. 1:09:25People use Islam in very unislamic ways.
1721. 1:09:30A mother says, "I will never forgive you
  1722. 1:09:32and if I don't forgive you, Allah won't
  1723. 1:09:34forgive you."
1724. 1:09:37There are some super moms like that.
1725. 1:09:41Father will say you don't deserve my
1726. 1:09:44duas and if I don't bless you then how
1727. 1:09:48will Allah ever accept you?
1728. 1:09:51You know what that sounds like?
  1729. 1:09:54Azar
  1730. 1:09:56Ibrahim's father.
1731. 1:09:58That's what it sounds like. You're using
  1732. 1:09:59your religion as a what? As a weapon.
  1733. 1:10:02You think on judgment day when I I'm a
  1734. 1:10:05father. I'm a father. on judgment day
1735. 1:10:08while I am answering Allah for my deeds
1736. 1:10:11my son is over there answering for his
1737. 1:10:12deeds and he's about to go to Jenna I
1738. 1:10:14say hold on ya Allah hold on hold before
  1739. 1:10:16you continue I didn't forgive him for
  1740. 1:10:18that one time
  1741. 1:10:21so uh
1742. 1:10:23that way you go come on it does it work
  1743. 1:10:26like that
1744. 1:10:29we have created this strange idea that
1745. 1:10:33some relationships have the power to
  1746. 1:10:34decide what Allah will
1747. 1:10:37No one has power over Allah.
1748. 1:10:40Even the prophet sallallaihi wasallam
  1749. 1:10:41was told
1750. 1:10:43you cannot guide whoever you love. If
1751. 1:10:45the prophet is told this wasam who are
  1752. 1:10:47you who are who am I?
1753. 1:10:50Why do we have this weird these weird
  1754. 1:10:52ideas?
1755. 1:10:53Look at what Allah says after opening
1756. 1:10:55this door of relief. Allah says
1757. 1:11:01and actually before that even
1758. 1:11:08This is a message for all people that
1759. 1:11:10worship and we have not sent you except
1760. 1:11:14for a loving mercy for all nations. This
1761. 1:11:16is relief from so much and so much for
1762. 1:11:20all nations. This message it's for every
  1763. 1:11:23every nation deserves this.
1764. 1:11:25And so at the end of all of this,
1765. 1:11:29you know, messaging, I'm going to bring
1766. 1:11:30you back to what I really wanted to say.
1767. 1:11:33In western psychology, you are the
1768. 1:11:35center of the universe. You are the most
  1769. 1:11:38important character.
  1770. 1:11:40In the Quran,
1771. 1:11:42Allah is the most important entity.
1772. 1:11:45So your healing is not coming from
  1773. 1:11:47inside. It's coming from outside. It's
  1774. 1:11:50coming from Allah. It's coming from
  1775. 1:11:52Allah. You're not seeking to find
  1776. 1:11:54yourself at a Bali vacation.
1777. 1:11:59You're not going on a healing journey on
1778. 1:12:01a hike to undo your
1779. 1:12:05your jealousy with your sister
  1780. 1:12:09or to get over a breakup. That's not
  1781. 1:12:12where you're going to find it. or you're
1782. 1:12:13not you don't have to plug in a Ocean
1783. 1:12:15Sounds app and go to sleep so you can
  1784. 1:12:18get over,
1785. 1:12:20you know, your criminal conviction.
1786. 1:12:24That might help a little bit. It might
1787. 1:12:25take your mind off. It might give you
1788. 1:12:27some calm. That's cool. But if you
1789. 1:12:29really want to move on without guilt,
1790. 1:12:31without shame, without anger, without
  1791. 1:12:33resentment, without revenge,
1792. 1:12:36you don't want to live under the burden
1793. 1:12:37of hatred, you don't want to live under
1794. 1:12:39the burden of disappointing someone else
1795. 1:12:42or being disappointed by somebody else,
1796. 1:12:44you don't want to live under the burden
1797. 1:12:46of depending on others emotionally
1798. 1:12:47constantly, you don't want to live, you
1799. 1:12:49want to lift all of this and all of this
1800. 1:12:52from your life. Then you've got to
1801. 1:12:55develop one relationship really, really
1802. 1:12:57well. When that one relationship becomes
1803. 1:13:00healthy, all the other relationships can
1804. 1:13:02go everywhere. You will remain stable
1805. 1:13:06and and that's coming from the outside
1806. 1:13:07in. Western psychology will not let you
  1807. 1:13:10go outside in because there's nothing
  1808. 1:13:12greater than yourself.
1809. 1:13:14And of Quranic psychology, you first go
1810. 1:13:18you you first go outside, meaning you
1811. 1:13:19turn to Allah and you let that
1812. 1:13:22illuminate you and then you go inside
  1813. 1:13:23out. It's actually a two-way street, not
  1814. 1:13:26a one-way street. There are many
1815. 1:13:28positive things in western psychology
  1816. 1:13:30but it's not it's not wrong. It's
  1817. 1:13:32missing something. It's missing. And the
  1818. 1:13:34piece that it's missing, believers have
1819. 1:13:37it. Believers have it. Quran has it. We
1820. 1:13:40need to come back to the Quran and
1821. 1:13:42develop this for ourselves because we
1822. 1:13:43need I need it. You need it. Our
1823. 1:13:45families need it. Our generations need
1824. 1:13:47it. And I'm telling you, in the in the
1825. 1:13:49world of so many messages out there that
1826. 1:13:52are trying to tell people how they
1827. 1:13:53should feel, how they should live, how
1828. 1:13:55they should heal, how they should deal
1829. 1:13:57with trauma, the only guided answer
  1830. 1:14:00that's really there that's not missing
1831. 1:14:01any piece is the word of Allah. And I
1832. 1:14:03pray that we as a nation are able to
1833. 1:14:05come back to that. Make dua that this
  1834. 1:14:06project that we're doing, we're
  1835. 1:14:07basically we're doing something called
  1836. 1:14:08Quranic psychology. And we're it's a
1837. 1:14:11it's a massive massive project. all the
1838. 1:14:13emotions in the Quran, all the ways that
1839. 1:14:15Allah is talking about them and then
1840. 1:14:17comparing to the different western
1841. 1:14:19psychological models and then putting
  1842. 1:14:21them together in a way that even a
1843. 1:14:23teenager can read that and learn from
  1844. 1:14:25it. Like I don't want to write something
1845. 1:14:26for PhDs. I want to write something for
  1846. 1:14:29everybody's consumption so that
  1847. 1:14:31practitioners, imams, you know,
1848. 1:14:34counselors, youth activists, and even
1849. 1:14:36just in families can benefit from that.
1850. 1:14:39And so I'm gonna wrap my lecture up, but
1851. 1:14:41I'll leave you with one last thing
  1852. 1:14:42because I I said it to a mother today
1853. 1:14:44and I said it to one sister today, but I
1854. 1:14:46I think all of you need to hear it.
  1855. 1:14:48Don't raise your hand. I know.
1856. 1:14:51Uh there are people in your life that
  1857. 1:14:54are
1858. 1:14:57you're stuck to them and they're very
  1859. 1:15:00difficult.
  1860. 1:15:02Maybe it's your mom, maybe it's your
  1861. 1:15:03dad, maybe it's your brother, maybe it's
  1862. 1:15:04your sister, maybe it's your ex-husband,
  1863. 1:15:06maybe it's your ex-wife because you
  1864. 1:15:07share a child together.
1865. 1:15:09I don't know who it is, but there's some
1866. 1:15:10people in your life. You're stuck with
1867. 1:15:11them and they're very, very, very, very
  1868. 1:15:14difficult
1869. 1:15:16and you cannot escape them. Allah
1870. 1:15:18designed your life with that chain.
1871. 1:15:23Like Ibrahimam and his father or Nuh and
1872. 1:15:25his wife, right? Or was and Abu Dahab,
  1873. 1:15:30you're stuck with some people. You're
  1874. 1:15:32stuck with them.
1875. 1:15:34I need you to understand
1876. 1:15:37that those relationships that are
  1877. 1:15:38problematic in your life,
1878. 1:15:41they cannot control your emotions.
1879. 1:15:45You cannot allow those relationships to
1880. 1:15:47control your emotions. You have to
  1881. 1:15:50create a level of toughness, a level of
1882. 1:15:57that you don't just listen to what they
1883. 1:15:59say, you can block what they say and you
  1884. 1:16:02don't change your behavior
1885. 1:16:04because you allow them to affect you
  1886. 1:16:06emotionally.
  1887. 1:16:08There's a mother and a father. They're
1888. 1:16:10divorced and they have a child. Yeah,
1889. 1:16:13they have a child. The mother hates the
1890. 1:16:14father. The father hates the mother.
1891. 1:16:17The child is in the middle. When the
1892. 1:16:19child spend time with the mother, the
1893. 1:16:21father gets angry. When the child gets
1894. 1:16:24spends time with the father, the mother
1895. 1:16:25gets angry. When the child is with the
  1896. 1:16:27mother, she's saying bad things about
1897. 1:16:28who? The father. When the child is with
1898. 1:16:31the father, he's saying bad things about
1899. 1:16:32who? The mother. Who are you destroying?
  1900. 1:16:36Now, I'm not I can't tell a child
1901. 1:16:38because the child is innocent and the
1902. 1:16:39child's not even an adult. But if that
  1903. 1:16:41child is 27, 35, 40, in the middle,
1904. 1:16:45they're in the middle. They need to
1905. 1:16:47become tough. They need to understand
1906. 1:16:49this person is a patient and this person
1907. 1:16:52is a patient. My mom is a patient and my
  1908. 1:16:55dad is a patient and I'm the doctor.
  1909. 1:16:58Unfortunately, I'm the doctor and the
1910. 1:17:01doctor sets the operating table. The
1911. 1:17:06doctor cannot start crying in the middle
  1912. 1:17:08of an operation.
  1913. 1:17:10If the doctor's performing heart surgery
1914. 1:17:12and he starts, "Oh my god, I opened his
  1915. 1:17:13chest."
1916. 1:17:17You're going to kill the patient with
  1917. 1:17:18your tears.
1918. 1:17:20You have to control your emotions when
1919. 1:17:22you're dealing with a patient. And you
1920. 1:17:24have to say, "Hey, mom, we can talk
  1921. 1:17:25about anything. Anything. We're never
  1922. 1:17:27going to talk about dad. I won't talk
1923. 1:17:30about him. You won't talk about him.
1924. 1:17:31Hey, dad, we can talk about anything you
1925. 1:17:33want. One thing we're never going to
  1926. 1:17:35talk about is who?
1927. 1:17:36>> Mom. We can talk about anything else. No
1928. 1:17:39problem. Don't tell me how to control my
1929. 1:17:42relationship with my father or my mother
  1930. 1:17:45because that's mine. That's not yours.
1931. 1:17:47That's mine. You have no right. Allah
1932. 1:17:50didn't give you that right. That kind of
1933. 1:17:52toughness has to be developed because
1934. 1:17:54Allah has given us principles that not
1935. 1:17:56just control our emotions, but it set
1936. 1:17:59they set the right kinds of boundaries
1937. 1:18:01in every relationship. The right kinds
1938. 1:18:03of borders, the right kinds of
1939. 1:18:05boundaries. We have to learn to live by
1940. 1:18:06those boundaries. And if we don't, then
1941. 1:18:09we will create oppression and injustice
1942. 1:18:12and cruelty inside the family. And if
1943. 1:18:14the Muslim family has cruelty, then the
1944. 1:18:17Muslim ummah will have cruelty and then
1945. 1:18:19the world will have cruelty. Because the
1946. 1:18:21smallest unit of humanity is the family.
1947. 1:18:24If you cannot remove cruelty from the
1948. 1:18:26family, then you will never remove
1949. 1:18:28cruelty from society and therefore you
1950. 1:18:30will never remove cruelty from the
  1951. 1:18:31world. So it's easy to talk about what's
1952. 1:18:34happening politically here or there and
1953. 1:18:36there and speak against the president
1954. 1:18:37and speak against the military and speak
1955. 1:18:39against the foreign policy, but very
1956. 1:18:41hard to talk about what's happening in
  1957. 1:18:42your own home.
1958. 1:18:44very hard to face the oppression in your
1959. 1:18:46own home and you want to escape the fact
1960. 1:18:49that you're not facing that by yelling
1961. 1:18:51and screaming about something else and
  1962. 1:18:53saying I'm speaking the huck that's not
  1963. 1:18:55huck that's escapism
  1964. 1:18:57that's escapism don't escape I'm not
  1965. 1:19:00saying you shouldn't speak about
  1966. 1:19:01political injustice but I'm saying if
1967. 1:19:02you're going to be so brave to speak the
1968. 1:19:04truth on the outside you better become
1969. 1:19:06brave to stand by the truth inside what
  1970. 1:19:09is this hypocrisy
1971. 1:19:11what is it. You're so ready to stand
1972. 1:19:14against but not your uncle.
1973. 1:19:19We have to set we have to set the right
1974. 1:19:20boundaries. We have to stand by them and
1975. 1:19:23we have to face the consequences of
1976. 1:19:24them. It will take bravery and the only
1977. 1:19:26people who will be able to do it are
1978. 1:19:28people who will say no matter how much I
1979. 1:19:30get thrown in a fire, I know Allah will
  1980. 1:19:31make it cold.
1981. 1:19:33I know Allah will make it cold. Even if
1982. 1:19:35I get kicked out of my house, Allah will
1983. 1:19:36provide food. Even if I get sick, Allah
1984. 1:19:39will make me healthy. Ibrahim is going
1985. 1:19:41to be homeless. He's going to be
1986. 1:19:42sleeping under a tree in the freezing
1987. 1:19:44wind. He's going to be he's going to be
1988. 1:19:46wet in the rain with nowhere to go. And
  1989. 1:19:47he's going to say
1990. 1:19:50when I get sick, he's going to heal me.
1991. 1:19:51It's okay. Allah got me. Allah got me.
1992. 1:19:53Which means he knows he's going to be
1993. 1:19:55homeless. He knows it. You know,
1994. 1:20:00I don't know where I'm going to get my
  1995. 1:20:01food. I don't know where I'm going to
1996. 1:20:02drink. Where am I going to drink from?
1997. 1:20:04Am I going to drink from this puddle of
  1998. 1:20:06mud? I don't have a home. Where am I
1999. 1:20:09going to get food from? Allah will give
  2000. 1:20:12because I'm I'm obeying him. That's a
2001. 1:20:14level of bravery that only comes when
2002. 1:20:16you know you're not alone. When you know
2003. 1:20:18you're not alone. And the only way
2004. 1:20:19you'll know you're not alone is when you
2005. 1:20:21have iman in Allah. The biggest
2006. 1:20:23psychological crisis of our time is
  2007. 1:20:25extreme loneliness. Extreme loneliness.
  2008. 1:20:28Extreme loneliness. Teenagers are
2009. 1:20:30committing suicide because of extreme
2010. 1:20:31loneliness. People are spending million
2011. 1:20:34hund thousands of hours on social media
  2012. 1:20:36because they experience extreme
  2013. 1:20:37loneliness. They're attaching themselves
2014. 1:20:39to predators because of extreme
2015. 1:20:41loneliness. And the crisis of loneliness
2016. 1:20:43the real answer to the crisis of
2017. 1:20:45loneliness number one is the company of
2018. 1:20:46Allah number one. And when you have that
2019. 1:20:50Allah then creates you know
2020. 1:20:54when people believe and do good Allah
2021. 1:20:56gives them good company. He will remove
2022. 1:20:59not only will you get the company of
2023. 1:21:00Allah. Allah will create new
2024. 1:21:02environments for you with healthy
  2025. 1:21:04relationships.
2026. 1:21:06Alaihi wasallam did not have a good
  2027. 1:21:08relationship with his uncles.
2028. 1:21:10Not all not all of them but Allah gave
2029. 1:21:12him Abu Bakr. Allah gave him Allah gave
2030. 1:21:16him. Allah gave him Ali. Allah gave him
2031. 1:21:18Abdah Zub. Allah gave him the Sahabah.
2032. 1:21:20Allah gave him that. So whenever
2033. 1:21:22something is taken away, Allah will give
2034. 1:21:23something better. Allah will provide
  2035. 1:21:25something better. And that's the that's
2036. 1:21:27the message that I want to leave you
  2037. 1:21:28with. I know this was heavily
  2038. 1:21:30unprepared.
2039. 1:21:32>> This was a glimpse of a few reflections,
  2040. 1:21:34but I've actually done quite a deep dive
2041. 1:21:35into all of these ayat. And I'd really
  2042. 1:21:37encourage you to study the full-blown
2043. 1:21:40study of these ayat along with me, which
  2044. 1:21:42alhamdulillah by Allah's grace uh is
2045. 1:21:44available on the revealed app now. You
2046. 1:21:46can just select whichever ayah and look
2047. 1:21:49at all of my notes and listen to the
  2048. 1:21:50concise commentary also. So I'd really
2049. 1:21:52like to encourage you to become part of
  2050. 1:21:54the revealed app family. Uh it's a
2051. 1:21:56remarkable project of anyone who is
2052. 1:21:58engaged with the study of the Quran or
2053. 1:22:00is curious about the Quran, reading any
2054. 1:22:02part of the Quran and just wants to
2055. 1:22:03know, I wonder what this ayah is talking
  2056. 1:22:05about. I wonder if you know Norman's
2057. 1:22:07done some work on this ayah or has some
2058. 1:22:09thoughts on it. You can just hold down
2059. 1:22:10the ayah and you'll get my notes and you
2060. 1:22:11might even get or you also get my
2061. 1:22:13concise commentary on it. You can also
2062. 1:22:15post questions on there which many of
2063. 1:22:17you are starting to post mashallah. So,
2064. 1:22:19I'd really encourage you to become part
2065. 1:22:21of this revolutionary study and this
2066. 1:22:22revolutionary resource that can really
2067. 1:22:24help develop a very good bond between
2068. 1:22:27you and the Quran and also a really
2069. 1:22:29great way for me to gain insights on
2070. 1:22:31what kinds of things are on your mind as
2071. 1:22:33you post your questions. Thanks so much
2072. 1:22:35and I hope to see you at the revealed
  2073. 1:22:36app.
