Fruit fly plays Half-Life DeathMatch Online — Transcript
Full transcript
- 0:00The latest weird thing to play Doom is
- 0:02the mapped out brain of a fruit fly.
- 0:06After Google mapped an adult male fruit
- 0:08fly's brain, software engineers made it
- 0:10play Doom, Mario 64, and Beat Saber.
- 0:13This AI fly drives better than you.
- 0:19>> [music]
- 0:24>> Welcome back to the Brainrot Slap, guys.
- 0:26Today we are testing if a regular house
- 0:28fly can become a professional cybersport
- 0:31player.
- 0:34We booted up the simulation straight out
- 0:35of the box, and our pro player broke
- 0:38instantly. The fly's natural instincts
- 0:40completely glitched out in a 3D space.
- 0:42[music]
- 0:43The player was literally kissing the
- 0:45wall, and this biological AI was acting
- 0:47exactly like a fly, suicidally hitting a
- 0:50glass window.
- 0:52>> My disappointment
- 0:53is immeasurable.
- 0:54>> I wasn't about to give up on my pro
- 0:56player just yet. The problem was, out of
- 0:58the box, the AI wasn't even shooting
- 1:01because the neural pathways weren't
- 1:03mapped to the mouse trigger. So, I went
- 1:05into the code, linked its visual core to
- 1:07the fire button, and manually boosted
- 1:09its digital dopamine to the absolute
- 1:12maximum. It locked in.
- 1:18>> [music]
- 1:23[screaming]
- 1:25[music]
- 1:32[music]
- 1:40>> The Whitley has landed several of those
- 1:42things out there.
- 1:46>> [cheering]
- 1:54>> Realizing that 3D space was making the
- 1:56insect dizzy, I tried a 2D retro
- 1:59platformer.
- 2:02Instead of chaotic shaking, it delivered
- 2:04[music] actual pro eSports gameplay,
- 2:06hitting pixel-perfect jumps and
- 2:08destroying everything in its path.
- 2:10Under this massive dopamine boost, the
- 2:13AI started hyper-spamming the buttons
- 2:15like a true ranked [music] demon.
- 2:25Since the AI was playing like an
- 2:26absolute god in Mario, it was time for
- 2:28the ultimate cybernetic test. Welcome to
- 2:31the real eSports.
- 2:34But the Deadlock matchmaking was way too
- 2:36brutal. Facing a complex 3D map
- 2:39completely broke the fly's brain. The AI
- 2:41suffered such a severe existential
- 2:43crisis that its dopamine tracker
- 2:45literally dropped to minus 10. [music]
- 2:48>> Bro.
- 2:48>> If a literal fly gets this stressed out
- 2:50by this game, it's safe to say Deadlock
- 2:53is definitely not for everyone.
- 2:57Seeing my creation suffer completely
- 2:59broke my heart. I just couldn't [music]
- 3:01torture this poor fly anymore. You are
- 3:03free now.
