  3. 0:03injustice one local man has a unique
  4. 0:06perspective on that issue
  5. 0:08Jared Adams was wrongfully accused and
  6. 0:11in prison he shares it with local fives
  7. 0:13Rhonda Fox so he went from prisoner to
  8. 0:15attorney with unique perspective on race
  9. 0:18relations too far away from where you're
  10. 0:21recording this I was incarcerated with
  11. 0:24the number of 385 0 7 3 as an inmate
  12. 0:28Jared says he learned firsthand how
  13. 0:31divisive race can be when I was falsely
  14. 0:35accused and had my first interaction
  15. 0:37with the criminal justice system I
  16. 0:38thought that justice was applied equally
  17. 0:42across the board and it was because of
  18. 0:44how I look because of how you know my
  19. 0:48accuser looked who was white I never got
  20. 0:50the presumption of innocence that is
  21. 0:53supposed to be constitutionally afforded
  22. 0:54to everyone Jared Adams not only spent
  23. 0:58ten years of his life here at the Green
  24. 1:01Bay Correctional Institute for a crime
  25. 1:03he was later exonerated from but here he
  26. 1:07also began his career as a lawyer it
  27. 1:21wasn't easy and it wasn't able to be
  28. 1:24done without the help of health care
  29. 1:27were very few people have suffered and
  30. 1:30overcome the criminal justice system
  31. 1:32like Jared so he has a unique
  32. 1:35perspective about the wave of protests
  33. 1:38this is what black lives matter means we
  34. 1:43have been depicted historically in a
  35. 1:46barbaric way that continues to reach us
  36. 1:50it was the narrative that was created
  37. 1:52that you should be terrified of all
  38. 1:54black men and men of color
  39. 1:56now black lives and blue lives find
  40. 1:59themselves at an impasse in a protracted
  41. 2:02struggle this didn't just happen you
  42. 2:05know it's been going on now you get the
  43. 2:07opportunity to see it play out now on
  44. 2:09camera where someone's life is it's
  45. 2:12nothing
  46. 2:13their last gasp of breath interaction is
  47. 2:17happening you have to understand that
  48. 2:19it's not isolated I'm a black man who
  49. 2:23has faced the worst for the worse the
  50. 2:24criminal justice system and I happen to
  51. 2:26get out and become an attorney even
  52. 2:28though I left there's a piece of me
  53. 2:32still incarcerated in Green Bay
  54. 2:35Correctional Facility in Green Bay

  57. 2:43the Wisconsin Innocence Project his
  58. 2:46license to practice law in New York and
  59. 2:48Illinois while turning
