- 0:00He was the man every Christian feared.
- 0:03Saul of Tarsus, a name that sent
- 0:06families into hiding. With the authority
- 0:08of the high priest, he stormed into
- 0:10homes, dragged out believers, and threw
- 0:13them in prison. Men, women, it didn't
- 0:16matter. He believed he was serving God.
- 0:19But on a road to Damascus, Saul wasn't
- 0:22hunting anyone. He was about to be
- 0:26hunted by grace.
- 0:30Saul was present at the stoning of
- 0:32Steven, the first Christian martyr, as
- 0:36he approved of Steven's
- 0:38execution. But Saul wasn't satisfied. He
- 0:41became obsessed with wiping out the
- 0:43Christians and their movement. Every day
- 0:46he pursued followers of Jesus with
- 0:49ruthless determination.
- 0:51He went house to house in Jerusalem,
- 0:54dragging out anyone who confessed Jesus
- 0:57as Lord. But Jerusalem wasn't
- 1:01enough. Give me letters, he said to the
- 1:04high priest, that I may go to Damascus
- 1:08and bring back any who follow Jesus
- 1:11bound to face justice. And so with
- 1:16authority in hand, Saul set out on the
- 1:18road to Damascus, full of rage and
- 1:21unaware that heaven was watching. Around
- 1:26midday, as Saul neared the city,
- 1:29something unimaginable happened. A light
- 1:33from heaven, brighter than the noonday
- 1:36sun, flashed around him. The force of it
- 1:39knocked him to the ground. Then came the
- 1:43voice, Saul, Saul, why are you
- 1:45persecuting me? Confused, trembling,
- 1:49Saul replied, "Who are you, Lord?" "I am
- 1:52Jesus, whom you are
- 1:55persecuting. Get up and go into the
- 1:57city. There you will be told what you
- 2:00must do."
- 2:02The men with Saul heard the sound, but
- 2:05saw no one. Saul rose, but when he
- 2:08opened his eyes, he was blind. Led by
- 2:11the hand like a child, the mighty Saul
- 2:14entered Damascus. For 3 days, he didn't
- 2:18eat or drink. He sat in total darkness
- 2:23physically and
- 2:25spiritually. Elsewhere in the city, in a
- 2:28quiet home, a devoted follower of Jesus
- 2:31named Ananas was kneeling in prayer when
- 2:34he received a vision.
- 2:36Ananas, get up. Go to the street called
- 2:40Straight. Ask at the house of Judas for
- 2:42a man from Tarsus named Saul. He is
- 2:46praying. In a vision, he has seen a man
- 2:49named Ananas come in and place his hands
- 2:52on him to restore his sight. Ananas
- 2:55froze.
- 2:57Lord, I've heard many reports about this
- 3:00man. He has done much harm to your
- 3:03saints in
- 3:04Jerusalem. and now he's here with
- 3:07authority to arrest everyone who calls
- 3:09on your name. But the Lord answered,
- 3:13"Go. He is a chosen instrument of mine
- 3:16to carry my name before the Gentiles,
- 3:19kings, and the children of Israel. I
- 3:22will show him how much he must suffer
- 3:24for my name." Obedient but afraid,
- 3:28Ananas went. By the way, if you find any

- 3:36These take a long time to make and it
- 3:39really helps out. The door creaked open
- 3:42as Ananas entered the house. Before him
- 3:45sat the infamous Saul of Tarsus,
- 3:47blinded, weakened, humbled. Ananas
- 3:52placed his hands on Saul's shoulders and
- 3:54spoke with a voice steadied by divine
- 3:56courage.
- 3:58Brother Saul, the Lord Jesus, who
- 4:00appeared to you on the road, has sent me
- 4:04so that you may regain your sight and be
- 4:07filled with the Holy
- 4:09Spirit. Immediately, something like
- 4:11scales fell from Saul's eyes. He could
- 4:15see again, but it wasn't just his
- 4:17physical vision that returned. His
- 4:20entire life was redirected. In one
- 4:23breath, Saul went from enemy of Christ
- 4:26to vessel of his mercy. Immersed,
- 4:30buried, and raised, Saul was baptized
- 4:34that very day. Only days later, Saul
- 4:38began preaching in the synagogues. Jesus
- 4:41is the son of God. People were
- 4:44astonished. Wait, isn't this the same
- 4:47man who terrorized believers in
- 4:49Jerusalem? the one who came here to
- 4:51arrest them and drag them away in
- 4:53chains. But it wasn't a
- 4:55misunderstanding. It was a miracle.
- 4:58Saul, once the face of Christian fear,
- 5:02was now boldly proving that Jesus was
- 5:05indeed the promised
- 5:08Messiah. He left the religious scholars
- 5:11speechless. His enemies now turned on
- 5:14him. The hunter had become the hunted by
- 5:17his old allies. They plotted to kill
- 5:20him, and they set watches at the city
- 5:23gates day and night, waiting for Saul to
- 5:27leave so they could silence him forever.
- 5:31But while the city slept, Saul's new
- 5:34brothers in Christ lowered him in a
- 5:37large basket through an opening in the
- 5:39wall, and he escaped under the cover of
- 5:42night. The man once feared as Saul was
- 5:46now known throughout the world as
- 5:48Paul. But why the name
- 5:51change? Saul was his Hebrew name, a name
- 5:55of heritage and tradition. It connected
- 5:58him to his people, his past, the tribe
- 6:01of Benjamin, and the pride of a
- 6:04Pharisee. But
- 6:07Paul, Paul was his Roman name, a name
- 6:11that spoke to the world. He was now
- 6:13called to reach. A name that bridged
- 6:16cultures. A name not just accepted in
- 6:18the empire, but understood. As he began
- 6:21preaching to Gentiles across the empire,
- 6:24his name became a symbol of his mission.
- 6:27It reflected a shift from proud Pharisee
- 6:31to humble servant, from persecutor to
- 6:34preacher, from Saul to Paul. And though
- 6:38scripture never records a dramatic
- 6:40renaming moment, the change was no
- 6:44accident. Years later, Paul would write,
- 6:47"You have heard of my former way of life
- 6:50in Judaism, how I intensely persecuted
- 6:53the church of God. But when God, who set
- 6:56me apart from my mother's womb and
- 6:58called me by his grace, was pleased to
- 7:01reveal his son to me, I did not consult
- 7:05with any
- 7:06man. Paul would go on to plant churches
- 7:09across the Roman world, write letters
- 7:11that became scripture, and lay down his
- 7:14life for the gospel he once tried to
- 7:17destroy. Because when Jesus changes a
- 7:20heart, he doesn't just clean it. He
- 7:23gives it a new mission.
