- 0:01former Illinois governor R Lovich
- 0:03decided to keep his mouth shut to the
- 0:05jury Lovich has promised for months that
- 0:08he would take the stand in his own
- 0:09defense and so did his lawyer Sam Adam
- 0:12Jr did I get up in my opening statement
- 0:14and tell them he was going to testify
- 0:16yes I did did I believe at the time that
- 0:17I said that that he was going to testify
- 0:19yes I did have times changed they
- 0:22certainly have the defense team believes
- 0:25the prosecution failed to come through
- 0:27with several key Witnesses against the
- 0:28former Governor causing them to change
- 0:31their defense before this trial began
- 0:33the bovich defense team tried to
- 0:35subpoena President Obama to come here
- 0:37and testify now they've decided that no
- 0:40one will testify in the defense of the
- 0:41former Illinois governor because they
- 0:43believe the prosecution hasn't proved a
- 0:46thing we think by putting him up there
- 0:48to answer anything makes it seem as if
- 0:50the government was right that he'd had
- 0:53something to answer uh in the tapes that
- 0:55the government played uh they proved as
- 0:58I said all along that I did nothing
- 0:59illegal
- 1:00in fact they proved that I I sought the
- 1:02advice of my lawyers uh and my advisers
- 1:05they proved that I was on the phone
- 1:07talking to them brainstorming about
- 1:09ideas uh yes they proved some of the
- 1:11ideas were stupid uh but they also
- 1:13proved some of the ideas were good the
- 1:15idea not to do anything could backfire
- 1:18jurors are left to think about why a
- 1:20defendant who talks to everyone won't
- 1:22take the stand I've learned a lot of
- 1:24lessons from this whole experience and
- 1:26perhaps maybe the biggest lesson I've
- 1:28learned is that that I talk too much now
- 1:31in closing arguments the prosecution
- 1:33must convince the jury that bich did
- 1:35commit a crime without cross-examining
- 1:38him and the defense team must prove that
- 1:40the prosecution hasn't proved anything
