- 0:31It's a miracle that I'm standing before
- 0:33you today. But what I'm about to share
- 0:35with you isn't about me. It's about
- 0:38Annie. Annie Timmons, who is the
- 0:40kindest, most forgiving soul I've ever
- 0:43known. She loves to read, mostly because
- 0:47she doesn't have any friends.
- 0:49Many of you don't pay much attention to
- 0:51her or see her for who she really is.
- 0:54You've only seen her disabilities.
- 0:56She's been knocked down, bullied, and
- 0:59has had her heart broken more than her
- 1:01fair share of times. And some of us here
- 1:03today are to blame, including me.
- 1:07>> Hi, girls.
- 1:09Hi, Annie.
- 1:10>> No, don't talk to her.
- 1:12>> Why not?
- 1:13>> I already told you she's a Ew,
- 1:16that's gross.
- 1:17>> Yeah, it is. We can't be seen with her.
- 1:19It's bad for our reputation. Let's go.
- 1:22My mom's waiting.
- 1:23>> Please don't let me ride. You're my ride
- 1:25home.
- 1:26>> We really should give her a ride.
- 1:28>> Not our problem. Now, hurry. Don't let
- 1:30her catch up.
- 1:31>> Hey, girls.
- 1:32>> Hey, Mom.
- 1:33>> Did you guys have fun?
- 1:35>> Yep. A blast. Read lots of books. Now,
- 1:37let's go. We have a plate at June's
- 1:39house.
- 1:40>> Uh, what about Annie?
- 1:42>> She said her mom's coming to pick her
- 1:44up.
- 1:44>> Oh, yeah. You sure?
- 1:46>> Yes, I'm sure.
- 1:48>> Okay, buckle up. Let's go.
- 1:52>> Please don't leave me behind. Come on,
- 1:54wave for me.

- 3:11[Music]
- 3:20Well, hello. Look what we have here.
- 3:22>> Hi, Stu. Hi, Jacob.
- 3:24>> Do not come any closer. You have
- 3:26cooties.
- 3:28No, I don't. Those aren't even real.
- 3:30>> Yes, they are. You also smell like an
- 3:32old wet dog. You should go home and take
- 3:34a shower. It's disgusting.
- 3:37>> Yeah, it is.
- 3:39>> Come on. Let's get out of here. Move out
- 3:41of the way. We don't want to get
- 3:43infected.
- 3:51[Music]
- 3:59[Music]
- 4:08Hi. What's wrong with your legs,
- 4:11>> Arthur? That's not a very polite thing
- 4:13to say. I am so sorry.
- 4:15>> It's okay. People stare at me all the
- 4:17time, but never say anything. I rather
- 4:20they just ask.
- 4:21>> Well, you are sweet.
- 4:23>> Thank you. I actually have something
- 4:25called cereble palsy. So, my legs don't
- 4:28work very well, but other than that, I'm
- 4:31pretty normal.
- 4:32>> That's good to know. Thank you so much
- 4:33for sharing.
- 4:34>> You're welcome. Have a good day.
- 4:36>> You as well.
- 4:37>> Bye, Arthur. Bye.
- 4:41[Music]
- 4:58Hey,
- 5:00there's my girl.
- 5:02>> Hi, Daddy.
- 5:03>> What? No hug? Bring it in. That's more
- 5:06like it.
- 5:09>> What's this? A flower for me?
- 5:13>> Sure, if you want it.
- 5:14>> Oh, I do. I want to give it to your mom.
- 5:17Just don't tell her that I didn't pick
- 5:19it.
- 5:20>> Okay, Daddy.
- 5:22>> Hey, you okay?
- 5:25>> Yeah, I'm okay.
- 5:27>> You just getting back from the library?
- 5:29>> Yeah, I got a backpack full of new books
- 5:31to read.
- 5:31>> Oh, that's great. You know, I love that
- 5:34you love to read so much.
- 5:37>> I have lots of friends that I made of my
- 5:40books, but they're not real.
- 5:43>> Did you meet anybody new at the library
- 5:45today? No, there were lots of kids
- 5:47there, but they didn't really want to
- 5:49talk to me.
- 5:51>> I'm sorry, sweetheart. That's their
- 5:53loss.
- 5:55You can talk to me anytime you want.
- 5:59>> Static.
- 6:01>> I didn't see anybody drop you off. How
- 6:03did you get home?
- 6:06>> Well, Chris mom was supposed to give me
- 6:09a ride, but I think they kind of forgot
- 6:12about me.
- 6:13>> They forgot about you?
- 6:16And you walked all the way home all by
- 6:18yourself.
- 6:18>> Yeah,
- 6:21>> it's over two miles.
- 6:23>> It's okay. I'm strong.
- 6:27>> Yes, you are. Stronger than any kid your
- 6:30age and most adults that I know.
- 6:33You're my hero.
- 6:36>> Thanks, Daddy.
- 6:39>> Cheer up, kiddo. You're going to make
- 6:41some new friends soon. I can feel it.
- 6:45I hope so, Daddy.
- 6:48>> I know you do, kiddo.
- 6:51Hey, how about we get inside? I bet your
- 6:54mom has dinner ready. And I am starved.
- 6:57>> Yeah.
- 6:59>> Come on.
- 7:01I cannot believe you walked all the way
- 7:03home by yourself.
- 7:04>> And thank you for our family. And thank
- 7:06you for our dog, Kai. And thank you for
- 7:09this wonderful meal my mom made me. And
- 7:12please help me find a friend, someone
- 7:14who will be nice to me in the name of
- 7:17Jesus Christ. Amen.
- 7:19>> Amen.
- 7:21>> Thank you, Annie. You always say such
- 7:23nice prayers.
- 7:26A thank you for the flower, honey.
- 7:30[Music]
- 7:32>> What? What's so funny?
- 7:34>> Nothing. I'm just excited to be home
- 7:36with my girls.
- 7:39>> Okay.
- 7:40How was the library? Um,
- 7:46>> Claire and her mom left her behind. She
- 7:49walked home.
- 7:51>> What? You walked home?
- 7:55>> Yeah, but it's okay. I think it was just
- 7:58an accident.
- 7:59I I had fun. I checked out five new
- 8:02books, mostly fantasy stuff about
- 8:05princesses and dragons.
- 8:07Well, that is great, honey. I really
- 8:12love your imagination.
- 8:20Oh, hey, there is a new girl that has
- 8:24just moved into the neighborhood and she
- 8:26is your age, Annie.
- 8:29>> That's good.
- 8:30>> Yeah. Her name is Jordan and I talked to
- 8:34her mom today and they are going to go
- 8:36to church with us on Sunday.
- 8:39>> Okay.
- 8:39>> So, her parents and her they are invited
- 8:43to Claire's birthday party tomorrow
- 8:45afternoon.
- 8:46And I was thinking you two could be
- 8:48friends. Huh? I'm sure she'd loves
- 8:51someone to talk to.
- 8:53>> I don't really want to go, Mom.
- 8:56>> What? I think she'd really love someone
- 8:58to talk to.
- 9:00What's going on?
- 9:01>> Because all they do at those parties is
- 9:03do fun games that I can't do. Besides
- 9:06that, all the other kids ignore me.
- 9:11>> Well, what about Claire? Cla's your
- 9:13friend. She likes you.
- 9:14>> No, she doesn't. She just pretends to at
- 9:16church and then at school or everywhere
- 9:19else I see her. She's always really mean
- 9:21to me.
- 9:23>> Really?
- 9:25I am so sorry. I did not know that.
- 9:28>> It's okay. I forgive her.
- 9:31Give me any excuse. I'm not very hungry.
- 9:36>> Sure, sweetheart.
- 9:38Give your leftovers to Kai.
- 9:59[Music]
- 10:07I have a phone call to make.
- 10:10>> Yeah.
- 10:11>> How could she not check? How could she
- 10:12not know that she didn't have a ride?
- 10:15>> I don't know. Maybe she thought we were
- 10:16picking her up behind him. Well, that is
- 10:18not okay. She should check. She should
- 10:20check.
- 10:22>> Yeah, I agree.
- 10:45I'm glad you're my friend.
- 10:54Come in.
- 10:58Just wanted to come say good night.
- 11:02>> Daddy,
- 11:06>> why does God make me like this?
- 11:10>> Oh, honey.
- 11:14>> You're perfect.
- 11:16God doesn't make mistakes.
- 11:18>> I mean, my body, why did he make my body
- 11:22like this?
- 11:25[Music]
- 11:28I don't know.
- 11:32But I do know that there is a reason for
- 11:34everything. You know, sometimes God
- 11:36takes our toughest challenges in life
- 11:40and turns lemons into lemonade.
- 11:46I wonder why people can't really see me.
- 11:50They only see my crutches.
- 11:54The right ones can see you
- 11:57and the incredible person that you are.
- 12:00Others are going to come along and
- 12:03become your truest friends, the ones
- 12:05that really matter in life.
- 12:08>> I hope so.
- 12:11>> Do you know what I think? What?
- 12:15>> I think that you should go to that party
- 12:18tomorrow.
- 12:23>> What if no one talks to me like always?
- 12:28>> H Well,
- 12:31you can always come talk to me and mom.
- 12:35>> Okay, I'll go.
- 12:37>> That's my girl.
- 12:40I'm going to go to bed.
- 12:42>> Okay. You should get some sleep, too.
- 12:44>> Okay. Okay.
- 12:45>> Love you.
- 12:45>> Good night.
- 12:47>> Say your prayers.
- 12:48>> I will.
- 12:51[Music]
- 13:02>> Hey.
- 13:03>> Hey.
- 13:06>> So, how'd it go?
- 13:09Okay, I guess she agreed to go to the
- 13:12party tomorrow.
- 13:14>> Well, that's great.
- 13:18[Music]
- 13:20>> Our little girl is so brave.
- 13:23>> Yeah, she is.
- 13:25>> Really lucky to have her.
- 13:28>> Now we are.
- 13:30>> Do you remember all those years of
- 13:32trying to have a baby?
- 13:35>> She was worth the wait.
- 13:38Yes, she was.
- 13:41>> I just want her to be happy, you know,
- 13:45not so lonely.
- 13:47>> Well, she is happy.
- 13:50>> Yeah.
- 13:50>> Yeah. And I think the loneliness will go
- 13:52away. I really do.
- 13:55>> I hope you're right.
- 13:58>> So do I.
- 14:00>> I pray every day that she'll find a new
- 14:02friend soon.
- 14:05>> Me, too.
- 14:10You know I love you, right?
- 14:14>> Yeah.
- 14:24>> Oh, hi. Welcome.
- 14:26>> This is for Claire.
- 14:27>> Oh, sweetie.
- 14:29Just go ahead. Enjoy. Have fun. Nice to
- 14:31see you again.
- 14:32>> Nice to see you, too.
- 14:40Oh, it is in the Simmons family.
- 14:43>> Timmons.
- 14:44>> Oh, yeah. Right. So glad you guys could
- 14:48be here. Welcome.
- 14:49>> I'm so sorry we're late.
- 14:51>> Oh, it's fine. We just started dinner.
- 14:54Dave is making his famous barbecue
- 14:56brisket. Of course, we've got hamburgers
- 14:58and hot dogs for the kiddos, of course.
- 15:02Help yourselves.
- 15:03>> Sounds good. Thank you.
- 15:04>> Yeah, of course.
- 15:05>> This is for Claire.
- 15:07>> Oh,
- 15:09well,
- 15:14>> you know, all the kids are over there
- 15:15playing. They just started hitting the
- 15:17piΓ±ata. Why don't you go and join them?
- 15:21>> Oh. Oh, I'm sorry. I I didn't realize
- 15:25that you couldn't with your um
- 15:28>> I'm sorry. With what? Oh, I just mean uh
- 15:31with her crunches and all.
- 15:35>> Oh, she's perfectly capable of hitting a
- 15:37piΓ±ata, Angela.
- 15:41>> Great.
- 15:43Well, you guys have a good time. Masa
- 15:48Sucasa,
- 15:50but not okay.
- 15:55>> Smile.
- 15:56>> I am smiling.
- 15:58Uh-huh.
- 15:59>> You want to go play with the little
- 16:01kids?
- 16:01>> I'm going to go talk to Mrs. Sanders
- 16:03instead.
- 16:05>> Okay, we'll be over here.
- 16:07>> Okay.
- 16:11>> Should we go with her?
- 16:13>> Nah, give her a few minutes. She needs
- 16:15to try this on her own.
- 16:17>> Okay. Just hurts my little heart to
- 16:19watch.
- 16:21>> Yeah, mine, too.
- 16:23>> Not always going to be there to save
- 16:24her, though.
- 16:29Pastor Nome. Let's go say hi.
- 16:35>> Look at her. Miss.
- 16:36>> Oh, brother.
- 16:38>> Look who showed up.
- 16:42>> Don't talk to her. Unless my mom was
- 16:43around. I don't want to get in trouble.
- 16:45She says we need to look good in front
- 16:47of everybody.
- 16:48>> Why can't we talk to her?
- 16:50>> Duh. Isn't it obvious?
- 16:53>> Not really.
- 16:54>> She's not one of us. She's embarrassing.
- 16:56You don't want to be seen with her.
- 16:58Trust me,
- 17:03>> give me that. It's my turn.
- 17:08>> Faster,
- 17:10>> Melanie. Hi.
- 17:11>> Oh,
- 17:13where's that adorable daughter of yours?
- 17:15Oh, she's over uh talking to Mrs.
- 17:16Sanders.
- 17:17>> Oh, how's she doing anyway?
- 17:21Uh, I mean, to be honest, it's been a
- 17:25pretty rough summer on her.
- 17:26>> Yeah, the kids in the neighborhood and
- 17:28at church, they're just mean sometimes,
- 17:30you know.
- 17:30>> Yeah,
- 17:31>> we're actually not that happy about it.
- 17:33>> Well, I think I'd probably feel the same
- 17:35way if I was in your shoes.
- 17:38Annie is an angel. We can't tolerate
- 17:41this kind of stuff.
- 17:44>> Maybe I should incorporate a little come
- 17:46to Jesus moment in my sermon this
- 17:48Sunday. Uh, no.
- 17:50>> I don't really think that's necessary. I
- 17:52mean, we don't want to call anybody out
- 17:53or anything.
- 17:54>> Yeah. Yeah.
- 17:56>> Some people, especially kids,
- 17:58>> need to be told that there there's
- 18:01something about the Christlike love and
- 18:03humility that they need to see.
- 18:07>> Well, we trust you.
- 18:08>> Yeah.
- 18:09>> Yeah.
- 18:10>> I'll think about it.
- 18:12>> You want to get something to eat?
- 18:13>> Uh, no. We're not really hungry.
- 18:15>> Oh, yeah. You want to sit for a while?
- 18:17Sure. Thank you.
- 18:20[Music]
- 18:23>> Hello, cutie pie.
- 18:25>> Hi, Mrs. Sanders.
- 18:30>> How are you doing? Huh?
- 18:32>> Good.
- 18:33>> I've missed you.
- 18:34>> I missed you, too.
- 18:36>> Are you having a good time?
- 18:37>> No.
- 18:38>> What?
- 18:40Seriously?
- 18:42>> Yeah. I'm not having fun at all. Well,
- 18:45how come you don't go over there and
- 18:46take a whack at that piΓ±ata with those
- 18:48other kids?
- 18:49>> Because most of the kids are mean.
- 18:52>> They are?
- 18:53>> Mhm.
- 18:55>> H
- 18:57That doesn't make me very happy.
- 19:00Maybe there's something we can do about
- 19:02it. What do you think?
- 19:05>> Much not.
- 19:07>> Let's think about it for a few minutes
- 19:08and then we'll decide. Here's a burger.
- 19:13And here's some chicken. World class.
- 19:16Same with the sauce. My own recipe.
- 19:18Looks really good. It took me years to
- 19:20perfect. Family secret. And I've had
- 19:22offers to buy it for a ton of money, but
- 19:24I won't budge.
- 19:25>> I can see why. It looks delicious.
- 19:27>> So, where you guys from?
- 19:28>> We just moved here from Idaho. And
- 19:30that's our daughter Jordan over there.
- 19:32>> Oh, yeah. She's talking to my daughter
- 19:33Claire. Now, she's the best dancer and
- 19:36cheerleader in her age bracket in the
- 19:38state, bar none.
- 19:39>> Wow. Oh, I'm impressed. They started
- 19:41young.
- 19:41>> It just comes natural to her. Anyway,
- 19:44what do you do?
- 19:45>> Lawn care. Trying to pick up more
- 19:47clients since I'm new to the area.
- 19:49>> I'll let you mow my lawn. We'll talk
- 19:50numbers later. You know, I'm in real
- 19:52estate. Killing it. Even in this
- 19:54economy. This house is just temporary.
- 19:57Bought it to flip it. Got my eyes set on
- 20:00a nice piece of property in Copill where
- 20:02we're going to build. It's where a lot
- 20:03of the professional athletes live.
- 20:05>> Good for you. It sounds like your dream
- 20:07home.
- 20:07>> H for now. Hey, you two should uh just
- 20:10go find a chair and go mingle. Enjoy.
- 20:15>> Sing again. Sing again. Excuse us. We're
- 20:18coming through.
- 20:20>> Move over, kids.
- 20:22>> It is Annie's turn. All of you kids have
- 20:26[Music]
- 20:28>> Thank you very much, dear. Thank you.
- 20:29Thank you.
- 20:31>> Okay, get up here, sweetheart.
- 20:34Okay, get your balance. Can you do it?
- 20:37Come on. You can do it. Give it a good
- 20:40one.
- 20:45That's okay. Try again.
- 20:52[Music]
- 21:02Stop your laughing. Stop your laughing
- 21:05right now.
- 21:09>> Do you think this is funny?
- 21:11>> Yeah,
- 21:11>> it's really funny.
- 21:12>> Funny.
- 21:14>> I'm ashamed of you.
- 21:17Every single one of you.
- 21:20>> Yeah, you guys are cruel and mean.
- 21:23Especially you, Claire. I don't think I
- 21:25can ever be friends with someone like
- 21:26you.
- 21:31[Music]
- 21:33Hi.
- 21:34>> Hi.
- 21:35>> Can I sit by you?
- 21:36>> You want to sit by me? Sure, if you want
- 21:40to.
- 21:44I'm Jordan.
- 21:46Hi, I'm Annie.
- 21:50Those kids are so mean.
- 21:53Yeah, they are. But I forgive them.
- 21:57>> Really?
- 21:59>> Yeah.
- 22:01>> Well, then you're a better person than
- 22:03me cuz I don't want to be friends with
- 22:04any of them.
- 22:07[Music]
- 22:11Maybe it's not. I like nice people, not
- 22:15mean people. And you seem really nice.
- 22:20I just moved here. Maybe we could be
- 22:22friends.
- 22:24>> I like that.
- 22:26>> What kind of things do you like to do?
- 22:29>> I like to read books.
- 22:31>> No way. Me, too. What books do you like
- 22:34to read?
- 22:35>> Mostly fantasy stuff about princesses
- 22:37and dragons.
- 22:38>> I like mysteries.
- 22:40>> Fun.
- 22:48Some people were just born to be
- 22:50friends. That's the way it was with
- 22:52Annie and I from the very first moment
- 22:54we met. This is our story. The ups and
- 22:58the downs, the highs and the lows, but
- 23:01most importantly, the great joy and
- 23:03blessings that come with having a best
- 23:05friend.
- 23:12[Music]
- 23:32Annie, over here. Annie.
- 23:36>> Daddy, we set up here. Sure.
- 23:44[Music]
- 23:55It's great to see you again, too.
- 24:00>> I sufficiently beat you.
- 24:05>> I wanted to say thank you again for
- 24:07Stephanie for Annie yesterday. The honor
- 24:09was all mine.
- 24:12>> Good afternoon. For those of you who
- 24:15don't know, I'm Pastor Nome, and I'd
- 24:19like to welcome everyone,
- 24:21especially our newcomers, to our Sunday
- 24:23services.
- 24:25Each one of you is important not only to
- 24:28me and our little flock,
- 24:31but more importantly to our Lord and
- 24:33Savior Jesus Christ, who knows and loves
- 24:37each and every one of you. Flaws and
- 24:41all.
- 24:42And make no mistake about it,
- 24:46we're all flawed. And we desperately
- 24:48need his help.
- 24:51Don't we all look nice today?
- 24:56But he does not look upon our outward
- 24:59appearance.
- 25:01He looks upon the heart.
- 25:07Yes, he does.
- 25:09it.
- 25:11I'm going to take a little sidetrack
- 25:13from my prepared sermon
- 25:17because there's something that's been
- 25:20tugging at my heart
- 25:23and I think it needs to be said.
- 25:29As I said, well, we're all sinners
- 25:33and we need to repent.
- 25:36But there are times in our lives when we
- 25:39need to be called out
- 25:42for repentance.
- 25:46Any bigotry
- 25:47or wrongfully judging of another is a
- 25:51flatout sin.
- 25:56I want you to look around this room.
- 26:03Are there any neighbors that you have
- 26:05not loved?
- 26:07or wrongfully judged.
- 26:11Wrongfully judging.
- 26:14That is a violation of one of our
- 26:17commandments.
- 26:20Thou shalt not bear false witness.
- 26:24And that includes no backstabbing,
- 26:27gossiping,
- 26:29being unkind,
- 26:31picking on, making fun of,
- 26:35or bullying,
- 26:37and lying
- 26:39in any manner, shape, or form.
- 26:44It just simply comes down to this,
- 26:47brothers and sisters. It's the golden
- 26:50rule.
- 26:52Do unto others
- 26:55as you would have them do unto you.
- 27:01Be kind.
- 27:03Be caring.
- 27:06Be accepting.
- 27:10We are a light on a shining hill
- 27:15and need to be a Christlike example for
- 27:18all to see.
- 27:21And if you are not
- 27:24or you have not been,
- 27:27you need to do better.
- 27:32We all need to do better.
- 27:37And
- 27:38with that, I'll get back to my prepared
- 27:40sermon.
- 27:43In Hebrews 4:12, it reads,
- 27:47"For the word of God is living and
- 27:50active, sharper than any double-edged
- 27:54sword.
- 27:57We live in a world built on sand.
- 28:01[Music]
- 28:02Society is rapidly changing
- 28:06and the truth is getting lost in a storm
- 28:09of competing voices.
- 28:12Now more than ever,
- 28:16we need to anchor ourselves in the
- 28:19eternal word of God
- 28:21in our conflicted culture.
- 28:24>> Thank you, pastor. It was a very
- 28:25powerful sermon.
- 28:27>> Thank you. Your words are greatly
- 28:28appreciated.
- 28:29>> Back.
- 28:30>> Thank you very much.
- 28:31>> Thank you. We needed this more than you
- 28:33know.
- 28:34>> Thank you.
- 28:36>> Thank you, Pastor Mason.
- 28:40>> Your words meant so much to us. Thank
- 28:42you.
- 28:42>> Well, they needed to be said.
- 28:45And how are you feeling today, Annie?
- 28:48>> Good. This is my new friend, Jordan.
- 28:51>> Best friend, right? Best friend.
- 28:54>> Well, I couldn't be happier for the both
- 28:56of you.
- 28:58>> Let's go play, Jordan.
- 29:01>> Jill and Tommy, it's so good to see you
- 29:04again. I'm glad you made it.
- 29:05>> So are we.
- 29:06>> Thanks for inviting us.
- 29:07>> No, thank you. You are a breath of fresh
- 29:10air. And I think Jordan is an answer to
- 29:13many of our prayers on behalf of Annie.
- 29:16>> We'll see you next week.
- 29:17>> Looking forward to it. You take care.
- 29:22>> She is an answer to our prayers. We are
- 29:25so fortunate.
- 29:26>> Oh, we're the lucky ones. We've never
- 29:29met anybody quite like Annie. I think
- 29:31she's one of the sweetest people I've
- 29:33ever met.
- 29:34>> Yeah, and I'm sure the apple doesn't
- 29:35fall far from the tree.
- 29:37>> Well, thank you.
- 29:39Hey, if you guys are hungry, I make a
- 29:41mean pot roast on Sundays. We'd love to
- 29:44have you over for dinner. We'll be
- 29:45there.
- 29:46>> Great. Uh why don't you come over around
- 29:483:00?
- 29:49>> Can we bring anything?
- 29:51>> Nope. We've got it covered, right?
- 29:53>> Yeah.
- 29:54>> Thank you.
- 29:55>> We'll see you soon.
- 30:00>> That was the best summer of my life.
- 30:03>> Looking back, everything was so simple,
- 30:05so pure.
- 30:12Annie and I did everything together.
- 30:15>> Let's dig in.
- 30:16>> Our parents even got to be great
- 30:17friends, which was just fine with us. It
- 30:19meant we got to spend more time
- 30:20together.
- 30:23>> We read books. We played on the swings.
- 30:27>> We went to church every Sunday and our
- 30:29families got closer and closer. One of
- 30:32our favorite things to do was walk to
- 30:34the store all by ourselves and load up
- 30:36on junk food.
- 30:40>> Mrs. Sanders was always there when we
- 30:42needed her.
- 30:44>> She kind of took us under her wing. We
- 30:46had tea parties, lots of tea parties
- 30:50with cucumber sandwiches.
- 30:52>> She made us feel important.
- 30:55>> We got to know most of the people in the
- 30:57neighborhood.
- 31:00>> What?
- 31:01Nothing.
- 31:02>> That's what I thought. Now keep walking.
- 31:05No one cares what you have to say. Go
- 31:06around us.
- 31:08>> I stood up for Annie when the other kids
- 31:10tried to make fun of her or bully her.
- 31:13>> You know who you are. And to be honest,
- 31:15it felt really good giving some of you a
- 31:17taste of your own medicine.
- 31:18>> Push yourself.
- 31:20>> It's a baby pushing the other baby on a
- 31:22swing.
- 31:25>> What did you say? You're going to make
- 31:27fun of a girl.
- 31:28>> A girl? She's not a girl, more like a
- 31:32thing.
- 31:33>> That's not funny. Now get out of here
- 31:35before I go over there and do something
- 31:36about it.
- 31:38>> Definitely.
- 31:41>> I think it's safe to say that we became
- 31:43the best friends anybody ever had.
- 31:46>> Every year just got better and before we
- 31:48knew it, we were in our senior year in
- 31:51high school together.
- 31:55[Music]
- 32:15All right, everybody, listen up. Quiet.
- 32:19You will have 45 minutes exactly to
- 32:22complete your exam. And remember, this
- 32:24score counts for 30% of your final
- 32:26grade. So, I hope you studied over the
- 32:29weekend. Now, I need to step outside for
- 32:31just a few minutes to get some supplies.
- 32:33Eyes on your own papers.
- 32:36And Annie, if anybody gets out of line,
- 32:38would you be sure and tell me? Okay,
- 32:40pencils up.
- 32:42Turn your papers over and
- 32:46you may
- 32:48begin.
- 32:56teacher's pet.
- 32:58Mind your own business, Claire?
- 33:00>> Yeah, how about I do whatever I want.
- 33:08>> Come on, Annie. What's the big deal? Let
- 33:10us see your answers.
- 33:11>> Yeah, get them over. Ronto.
- 33:13>> No, you heard Mrs. Dean. There's no
- 33:15cheating.
- 33:16>> It's more like we're temporarily
- 33:17borrowing your knowledge. We'll make
- 33:19sure to study later and it's not
- 33:20cheating at all.
- 33:21>> That's a good one.
- 33:22>> No, it's not. That That might be the
- 33:24dumbest thing I've ever heard of. Oh,
- 33:26>> come on, Brainiac. We don't get good
- 33:28grades, we're off the team, and we might
- 33:29not even graduate.
- 33:30>> It's not my problem. You should have
- 33:32studied.
- 33:33>> Look, I'm not going to ask you again.
- 33:35Let us see your answers, you freaking
- 33:37>> Wow, Stu, you actually just called her a
- 33:39>> Yeah, I mean, look at her. She's one
- 33:41step away from writing the short bus.
- 33:42>> That's enough. Don't push me, Stu. I
- 33:45mean it.
- 33:45>> Come on, man. Just leave her alone. How
- 33:47about you shut up and look at your paper
- 33:48before I slap the taste out of your
- 33:49mouth.
- 33:50>> All right. What are you going to do
- 33:51about it?
- 33:52>> Or I'll come over there and smash your
- 33:53face in.
- 33:54>> You and what army?
- 33:55>> Oh, no army. Just me.
- 33:57>> I'm laughing in your face right now
- 33:59because you're a joke. Besides, I never
- 34:01hit a girl.
- 34:03>> No, but you'd break her heart and make
- 34:05fun of her like you always have. Stu,
- 34:07words hurt. It's okay, Jordan. Just
- 34:11ignore him. I'm used to it.
- 34:14>> No, I'm not going to let him get away
- 34:15with this. Then neither should you.
- 34:18>> Yeah, she's right. Why don't you stick
- 34:20up for yourself, Annie?
- 34:21>> Because you're both a complete waste of
- 34:23time. You're not even worth the breath
- 34:25it would take for me to tell you about
- 34:26yourselves so you treat people like
- 34:28garbage.
- 34:29>> No, only you. Nobody likes you in the
- 34:31school except for Jordan.
- 34:33>> It's not true.
- 34:35>> You have got to be kidding me. Let her
- 34:37speak for herself.
- 34:39>> Like I said before, Claire, mind your
- 34:41own business. Nobody's talking to you.
- 34:45I don't know what you see in her anyway.
- 34:48You have no life. All you ever do is
- 34:50hang out with that loser. Seriously,
- 34:52Claire, this is getting old. She's
- 34:54harmless. Shut up, Tonnie. No one asked.
- 34:58She's dragging you down. You know,
- 35:01you have so much potential, but you
- 35:03can't even see it.
- 35:05She's not a loser. Say it again and see
- 35:08what happens.
- 35:10>> No.
- 35:12No. Maybe she's right.
- 35:15Maybe all of you have been right about
- 35:17me all along.
- 35:19I am dragging you down.
- 35:23>> Annie, that's not true. Don't listen to
- 35:25them.
- 35:32>> Wow, I am impressed. Thanks for holding
- 35:36down the fort, Annie.
- 35:38You've just got a few minutes left, so
- 35:40use them wisely.
- 35:41>> Everything was so great. your name's
- 35:42right now.
- 35:42>> We stood by each other's sides no matter
- 35:44what.
- 35:46>> But then things started to change and
- 35:48mostly because of me.
- 35:52>> It's okay. That's not true.
- 35:54>> I wish I could go back and stop
- 35:56everything that happened, but I can't. I
- 35:58can only learn from my mistakes and
- 36:01remind everyone what a terrible thing I
- 36:03did to someone I love.
- 36:08>> Keep walking, Jimmy. Keep walking.
- 36:15Hey,
- 36:17what was that all about back there?
- 36:19>> I don't know what you're talking about.
- 36:20All that nonsense about you dragging me
- 36:23down.
- 36:25Sometimes I think I am like like you're
- 36:28afraid you're going to leave me behind
- 36:30or something.
- 36:30>> I would never leave you behind.
- 36:34>> You never know. I just I don't want to
- 36:37ever stop you from doing the things that
- 36:39you want to do. Like what?
- 36:41>> I don't know. Lots of things.
- 36:44I know. Cheerleading is something that
- 36:46you've always wanted to do.
- 36:48>> Maybe if it wasn't a bunch of stuckup
- 36:49snobs like Claire who always make the
- 36:51team.
- 36:52>> Doesn't matter. You would be good. You
- 36:54really should try out.
- 37:00>> I I got to get to class. See you later.
- 37:04>> Yeah.
- 37:15She's right. You know, you should
- 37:16totally try out.
- 37:19I'm serious. I think you'd be good.
- 37:22Plus, we could always use another pretty
- 37:23girl that's coordinated. Just think
- 37:25about it. Okay.
- 37:55How was school?
- 37:57>> It was okay.
- 38:01I just can't believe you're a senior
- 38:03this year. Time is flying.
- 38:11>> You and Jordan have any fun plans this
- 38:13weekend?
- 38:16>> No.
- 38:19>> Can I be excused?
- 38:23>> Well, yeah, but
- 38:25you barely eaten anything, honey.
- 38:28I'm not not very hungry.
- 38:31>> Got a bunch of homework today.
- 38:33>> Something like that.
- 38:37>> Yeah,
- 38:40>> I'll just be in my room.
- 39:06What is going on?
- 39:08>> I wish I knew.
- 39:11>> Maybe you should go talk to her.
- 39:23Come in.
- 39:29>> Mind if I sit down?
- 39:31[Music]
- 39:37[Music]
- 39:39Want to talk about it?
- 39:42Not really.
- 39:44You wouldn't understand.
- 39:49>> I know that look.
- 39:53I haven't seen it since you were a
- 39:55little girl.
- 39:58>> I think I'm losing Jordan.
- 40:03>> What do you mean you're losing Jordan?
- 40:06>> I knew you wouldn't understand. It's
- 40:08just It's just something I feel.
- 40:11Okay. Well, help me understand.
- 40:15Why do you feel like you're losing
- 40:16Jordan?
- 40:18>> Because I'm holding her back.
- 40:21>> Holding her back from what?
- 40:23>> Doing what she's always been wanting to
- 40:25do for a long time now.
- 40:31Like being on the cheerleading team,
- 40:34making new friends.
- 40:40I'll never be a cheerleader, Dad.
- 40:44>> I think you can do anything you want to
- 40:46do.
- 40:49And you are so much more than that.
- 40:54You're the best friend and the best
- 40:57daughter anyone could ever ask for.
- 41:05Everything's going to be all right.
- 41:08I can feel it.
- 41:14Okay,
- 41:15>> as it turns out, many of you know, I did
- 41:18try out for the cheerleading squad after
- 41:20all. And even though it was hard for
- 41:22Annie, thinking she might lose her only
- 41:24friend to a world she was not included
- 41:26in, she supported me 100%.
- 41:32[Applause]
- 41:33[Music]
- 41:34[Applause]
- 41:38Oh, she
- 41:43[Music]
- 41:50>> welcome to the team.
- 41:52>> Thank you. Really excited to be here.
- 41:54>> You make a good fit.
- 42:00>> Stay there.
- 42:02Hi Congratulations.
- 42:04You made it.
- 42:07>> Really nervous.
- 42:08>> Oh, you looked great out there. I'm
- 42:10really happy for you, Jordan.
- 42:11>> Are you sure? Of course, I'm sure.
- 42:14You've worked so hard and you're finally
- 42:16doing some of the things you've always
- 42:18wanted to do. Well, I couldn't have done
- 42:20it without your support.
- 42:22I don't know how much of a support I've
- 42:24been. I I pretty much just been on the
- 42:26sidelines like I always am. You've
- 42:28always been there for me. I love you for
- 42:31that. I really do.
- 42:33What's wrong?
- 42:36>> Nothing. Everything's fine. I'm just I'm
- 42:38really happy for you.
- 42:40>> Thanks, Danny. Hey, good.
- 42:45>> Hey, you coming?
- 42:47>> Yeah. Where are we going? Check out
- 42:48frozen yogurt. It's a tradition with all
- 42:50the new cheerleaders.
- 42:51>> Yeah. Uh, yeah. Do you want to come?
- 42:54>> Um, uh, it it's actually kind of a
- 42:56private celebration. I'm so sorry.
- 43:00It's okay. I have a lot of stuff to do
- 43:03today anyway.
- 43:04>> Are you sure? Cuz if you want to go do
- 43:06something, I'll go with you. No, I'm
- 43:08positive. Go have a good time.
- 43:11>> Okay. You're the best. I'll call you
- 43:13later.
- 43:13>> Yeah.
- 43:13>> Okay. Bye.
- 43:16>> Frozen yogurt.
- 43:28[Music]
- 43:32I hope you all understand that this is
- 43:34not the way I wanted things to happen.
- 43:39I didn't mean for Annie to feel left out
- 43:41and alone. I really didn't.
- 43:44But finding some popularity and having
- 43:47people pay attention to me was really
- 43:49intoxicating.
- 43:51Truth is,
- 43:52>> so how many pepper?
- 43:53>> At the end of the day, it's all just a
- 43:55mirage.
- 43:57>> Annie was my only true friend all along.
- 43:59>> Don't even get nervous anymore. I feel
- 44:00like so nervous for it.
- 44:02>> You'll get used to it. I promise. So
- 44:04much. One thing we should always
- 44:06remember that when we're feeling
- 44:08loneliness and we're all alone
- 44:11and you feel like everyone has deserted
- 44:14you,
- 44:16you need to remember in 1 Peter 5:7,
- 44:20"Cast all your anxieties on him because
- 44:24he cares for you."
- 44:27and Psalm 147:3.
- 44:36[Music]
- 44:52Annie
- 44:58[Music]
- 45:03That was crazy.
- 45:06>> Oh, hold on a sec. Um, wait. Where are
- 45:08you going? Popkins. Just want to say hi
- 45:10to Annie really quick.
- 45:12>> Seriously?
- 45:15>> She's still my friend. Claire,
- 45:18>> whatever. She's such a downer. No one
- 45:20wants to be friends with her anyway.
- 45:21Show a little compassion for once. Jeez,
- 45:24I'll be right back.
- 45:30>> Hey, Annie.
- 45:35>> You're not going to talk to me?
- 45:39>> I've tried talking to you, Jordan.
- 45:42>> That's not true.
- 45:43>> It is true. You completely ignore me in
- 45:47school and at church all the time.
- 45:49You never return any of my phone calls
- 45:52or answer my text messages.
- 45:55I'm
- 45:55>> sorry. I've just been really, really
- 45:57busy lately.
- 46:00>> I know. You're hanging out with Claire
- 46:02all the time.
- 46:04>> You don't have time for us little people
- 46:06anymore.
- 46:06>> Don't say that.
- 46:09>> You've become just like all of them, and
- 46:11you promised me you wouldn't.
- 46:13>> What do you want me to do, Annie? spend
- 46:15all my time hanging out with you and do
- 46:17absolutely nothing with my life.
- 46:19>> No, that's not what I want.
- 46:20>> I think you do. You're not happy unless
- 46:22everyone else is just as miserable as
- 46:24you are. This is your fault, not mine.
- 46:29I'm sorry. Yeah. Yeah, you are.
- 46:32Actually, I don't need this kind of
- 46:35negativity in my life. So,
- 46:38I said I'm sorry.
- 46:41>> You're right. She's a total downer.
- 46:43>> I told you. Watch out. I catch a virus.
- 46:46>> That's right. She still has cooties.
- 46:49>> Join the circus, you freak.
- 46:51>> WD40 for those crunches.
- 46:54[Music]
- 47:03>> Do you think we'll be going late again
- 47:04tonight?
- 47:06>> Probably like 20, 30 minutes.
- 47:09>> Usual.
- 47:09>> Like usual.
- 47:10>> All right, ladies. Everybody in should
- 47:13be warmed up by now. Let's get started.
- 47:20>> So, all of us are going to clap. All
- 47:22going to stop. Wants to go left. Then
- 47:26we're going to bring back the front.
- 47:43[Music]
- 47:45Except for arms.
- 47:47>> What are you doing?
- 47:49>> It's not Jordan's fun.
- 47:50>> Oh, yeah. I left mine at home, so she
- 47:52said I could just use her as text. My
- 47:53mom.
- 47:54>> Okay. Well, let's get going. Come on.
- 47:56We've started.
- 48:03>> Bring it back.
- 48:05Let's go again.
- 48:09We're go
- 48:11[Music]
- 48:14forward
- 48:19up.
- 48:30[Music]
- 48:59Hey, how was school?
- 49:02Did you have a good day?
- 49:04>> It's fine. Done. You
- 49:06>> okay?
- 49:07>> I'm fine. Okay.
- 49:12>> Let me help you.
- 49:13>> I got it.
- 49:17>> Grab my hand.
- 49:18>> I got it. dead.
- 49:44>> Hey, you sure you're okay?
- 49:46>> I don't want to talk about it. Okay.
- 49:51It's not going to change anything.
- 49:57Haven't seen you and Jordan hanging out
- 49:58much lately. Is that it?
- 50:06Of course. That's it. Stupid question.
- 50:12>> I'm sorry.
- 50:13>> It's not your fault. Hey, none of my
- 50:17problems are yours or mom's fault.
- 50:20God made me like this.
- 50:24>> Like what?
- 50:26>> A person that nobody wants to be friends
- 50:28with.
- 50:33>> I know what I need to do.
- 50:38>> What is that supposed to mean?
- 50:42Annie, you're scaring me right now.
- 50:45>> Just take me home, please.
- 50:50>> I love you, sweetheart,
- 50:52with all of my heart.
- 50:55You matter to me and to mom, to God, and
- 51:00to so many others.
- 51:04Never forget that
- 51:07[Music]
- 51:09>> this too shall pass.
- 51:14>> You hear me?
- 51:15>> Just take me home.
- 51:17>> People can be so cruel.
- 51:20I just wish that Annie could have seen
- 51:22her true value despite what she thought
- 51:24Claire or myself thought of her.
- 51:28But we're conditioned to base our
- 51:29self-worth on what others think of us.
- 51:32even if they're not worthy of such
- 51:34adoration.
- 51:36I can't imagine how utterly devastated
- 51:39and hopeless Annie felt that day. We
- 51:42truly are our brother's keeper.
- 51:45Or in this case, our sister's keeper,
- 51:48but we failed miserably,
- 51:51especially me.
- 51:54>> Ready?
- 51:57>> Are you okay? What happened?
- 51:58>> What happened? You okay? Make room. Make
- 52:01room.
- 52:03Are you all right? Can you get up? All
- 52:05right. We're going to take you over to
- 52:06the side. All right, ladies. Make room.
- 52:08Make room.
- 52:10>> Thank you. Continue the routine. All
- 52:13right. I've got this under control.
- 52:16Okay.
- 52:17>> Your your pace.
- 52:19>> It'll be okay. All right. Here we are.
- 52:22Okay.
- 52:22>> Okay. I see.
- 52:26>> Okay. All right. Want to take a look?
- 52:29Okay,
- 52:38>> it's tender.
- 52:40>> Yeah,
- 52:43>> maybe shin splints,
- 52:45>> but I want that looked at. Okay,
- 52:48>> you take the rest of the afternoon off.
- 52:49I'm going to go grab you some ice. Okay,
- 52:51thanks.
- 52:51>> Jordan, there's one more thing I wanted
- 52:53to ask you.
- 52:54>> Sure. What's up?
- 52:58Did you uh did you tell Claire she could
- 53:00borrow your phone to text her mom?
- 53:03>> No. Why?
- 53:05>> I don't know yet. I'll let you know when
- 53:08I figure it out. Okay. Be right back.
- 53:15[Music]
- 53:30Oh, hey honey.
- 53:32>> How was school?
- 53:34>> It was fine.
- 53:51>> What happened?
- 53:53I don't know. Something's going on with
- 53:55her.
- 53:58>> Yeah, I have noticed that things have
- 54:00been different lately.
- 54:02>> Yeah,
- 54:04>> it worries me.
- 54:07I
- 54:07>> think I might go talk to Pastor Newsome,
- 54:10get some counsel.
- 54:11>> Yeah, he's been through this before.
- 54:15>> Okay.
- 54:17>> See if you can get her to talk.
- 54:20I'll be home before dinner. Okay.
- 54:22I love you.
- 54:23>> Love you, too.
- 54:28[Music]
- 54:37>> Annie,
- 54:38[Music]
- 54:40you okay? Honey,
- 54:44>> I'm fine, Mom.
- 54:46I just want to be alone for a while.
- 54:53I'm making your favorite for dinner.
- 54:55We're having Hawaiian food and hot fudge
- 54:57sundaes. Does that sound good?
- 55:01>> It sounds great, Mom. I'll be out in a
- 55:04little bit.
- 55:05>> Okay.
- 55:11>> I love you.
- 55:13>> Love you too, Mom.
- 55:23[Music]
- 55:33It makes me sick to think about all the
- 55:36hate we spew from texts, cyber bullying,
- 55:39or even directly to people's faces.
- 55:42Annie didn't deserve any of this. Yet
- 55:46she felt worthless and alone. That the
- 55:49world would be better off without her.
- 55:53If she only knew how loved and important
- 55:56she really was, this terrible tragedy
- 55:59could have been avoided.
- 56:09>> So, what makes you think she would even
- 56:11consider harming herself?
- 56:14>> I don't know.
- 56:16[Music]
- 56:18She just hasn't been acting herself
- 56:20lately. And
- 56:24it was something she said.
- 56:29There was a sadness,
- 56:32finality in her voice I've never heard
- 56:34before.
- 56:39Well, I take the potential threat of any
- 56:43suicide very seriously.
- 56:49That's why I'm here.
- 56:52We don't know what to do.
- 56:56She won't talk to us.
- 57:01Annie always talks to us.
- 57:06I noticed she
- 57:09doesn't talk to Jordan anymore and
- 57:11Jordan is buddied up with Claire.
- 57:16Do you think that has anything to do
- 57:17with it?
- 57:22Could be a big part of it.
- 57:25Jordan is the only
- 57:28only real friend Danny's ever had.
- 57:32I don't know.
- 57:36I
- 57:39I as a pastor
- 57:44I shouldn't say say that I shouldn't
- 57:47even think it but uh
- 57:50I've never trusted Claire.
- 57:53Something's going on.
- 57:56I agree.
- 57:59Something isn't right.
- 58:02Would
- 58:03you mind if I came over and talk to her?
- 58:09I was hoping you'd say that.
- 58:11That's what I'm here for. Thank you.
- 58:19>> Thank you.
- 58:31Hey, honey.
- 58:32>> Hey.
- 58:33>> How's everything going? Oh,
- 58:34>> good. Thank you for coming.
- 58:39>> Todd and I have been talking and uh Todd
- 58:42thinks it might be a good idea if I talk
- 58:43to Annie.
- 58:44>> That that would be wonderful. She's
- 58:46actually still in the bathroom.
- 58:48>> Uh she said she would come out for
- 58:50dinner. I have not heard from her, so
- 58:51I'm going to go check on her. Please
- 58:54join us for dinner, pastor. I will I'll
- 58:56help you.
- 58:56>> Great. Great.
- 58:59>> Okay,
- 59:06Annie,
- 59:08dinner's ready.
- 59:09[Music]
- 59:11Annie.
- 59:14Annie, answer me.
- 59:18Annie.
- 59:20Annie, open the door.
- 59:22Todd.
- 59:30>> Annie, open the door. Honey.
- 59:32>> Annie.
- 59:33>> Annie, open the door right now.
- 59:35>> Annie.
- 59:48[Music]
- 1:00:01Okay, come on. We got to find something
- 1:00:02quick.
- 1:00:03>> Be right behind you.
- 1:00:04>> I can't imagine having to find your
- 1:00:07daughter like that.
- 1:00:11I'm so sorry. I'm so very sorry.
- 1:00:17Can you please be okay? Please. These
- 1:00:21mommy's right here, baby. Please be
- 1:00:24okay.
- 1:00:25>> Human beings can only take so much
- 1:00:27before they break.
- 1:00:29>> We all would have felt hopeless and
- 1:00:31alone had we walked in Annie's shoes.
- 1:00:34>> I take full responsibility for my part
- 1:00:38in what happened to Annie that day.
- 1:00:40>> All right.
- 1:00:41>> That text was simply too much for her
- 1:00:43tender heart to take.
- 1:00:46It sent her over the edge into a dark
- 1:00:48abyss.
- 1:00:50>> Words matter.
- 1:01:02>> She was breathing. That That's a good
- 1:01:04sign. That That That's a very good sign.
- 1:01:12>> I don't know if she's going to be okay.
- 1:01:15And I need to know that she's going to
- 1:01:17be okay.
- 1:01:19Is she going to be okay? She has to be
- 1:01:22okay.
- 1:01:25Is she going to be okay with God?
- 1:01:32>> Well, is she going to be okay?
- 1:01:35>> Your daughter's in stable condition.
- 1:01:37She's going to be fine.
- 1:01:39>> God is good. Amen.
- 1:01:42>> We treated her with Norcan which uh
- 1:01:44blocked the effects of the drugs on her
- 1:01:46brain and also restored her breathing.
- 1:01:49We also used activated charcoal to
- 1:01:51prevent further absorption of these
- 1:01:52drugs into her system.
- 1:01:55We did identify a significant amount of
- 1:01:57hydrocodone in her system.
- 1:02:00Any idea why she would have had access
- 1:02:02to that drug?
- 1:02:04Yeah, I had a work injury a few months
- 1:02:06back and didn't throw away the bottle
- 1:02:09when I was done.
- 1:02:11>> Well, she's fortunate you found her when
- 1:02:13you did.
- 1:02:15We'd like to keep her here for a few
- 1:02:16more days for testing and psychological
- 1:02:18evaluation.
- 1:02:21You're welcome to go back and see her.
- 1:02:22She's recovering. She's a bit groggy,
- 1:02:24but uh she's awake.
- 1:02:28Thank you, doctor.
- 1:02:32Okay. It's going to be right here if you
- 1:02:33need me.
- 1:02:45[Music]
- 1:02:49I'm sorry,
- 1:02:51baby. No, it's okay. It's okay.
- 1:02:56We are going to get through this
- 1:02:58together and we love you so much.
- 1:03:01Okay.
- 1:03:03>> Gave us a real scare there, kiddo.
- 1:03:06>> The only thing that matters is that you
- 1:03:08are here with us now.
- 1:03:11Okay.
- 1:03:13You can do this.
- 1:03:14>> That's right.
- 1:03:19Is there anything we can do for you?
- 1:03:23>> I just want to go home.
- 1:03:27>> Uh the doctors want to keep you here for
- 1:03:29a few days, you know, just to be safe.
- 1:03:35>> Okay.
- 1:03:40Um, did you
- 1:03:42bring my leg braces and crutches so I
- 1:03:45can't get around and and my phone?
- 1:03:47>> Um, no. I think we left those at the
- 1:03:50house. Uh, but I can ask Pastor Newsome
- 1:03:53to swing by and grab them. I need
- 1:03:56somebody to go feed Kai anyway.
- 1:04:00You should get some rest.
- 1:04:05>> I'm kind of hungry.
- 1:04:07Yeah.
- 1:04:08>> Yeah.
- 1:04:08>> Let me go see what they've got. Any
- 1:04:11requests?
- 1:04:13>> French fries and ketchup.
- 1:04:16>> You got it.
- 1:04:21We really do love you, honey.
- 1:04:25You are everything to us.
- 1:04:30>> Okay. Thank you.
- 1:04:31>> I'll be right back.
- 1:04:33>> Okay.
- 1:04:39[Music]
- 1:04:46How's she doing?
- 1:04:49>> Considering everything she's been
- 1:04:51through,
- 1:04:54I think she's doing okay.
- 1:04:56>> Is there anything I can do for you or
- 1:04:58the family?
- 1:05:00>> I was hoping you could swing by my house
- 1:05:01and feed Kai for me. Not a problem.
- 1:05:05>> His food's in a plastic bin in the
- 1:05:06kitchen. Just give him two scoops and
- 1:05:09top off his water.
- 1:05:11>> You got it.
- 1:05:12>> Oh, and uh if you don't mind grabbing
- 1:05:15Annie's leg braces, crutches, and if you
- 1:05:18happen to see your cell phone,
- 1:05:21the keys on the porch under the planter,
- 1:05:24be back on the jippy.
- 1:05:26Thank you, Pastor Nome. Hey, your
- 1:05:29support means so much. Anything you
- 1:05:31need, anytime,
- 1:05:33I'll be there. I mean that.
- 1:05:43>> I don't know, Claire. I think I was
- 1:05:44really harsh on her.
- 1:05:47She doesn't deserve that. She's been my
- 1:05:49best friend since I was eight, and I
- 1:05:51don't want that to change just cuz I'm
- 1:05:52on the cheerleading team.
- 1:05:53>> No, I get it. But just because she's a
- 1:05:55doesn't give her the right to
- 1:05:56act like a total jerk. I mean, she's
- 1:05:59been purposely holding you back all
- 1:06:00these years.
- 1:06:02Pretty selfish, if you ask me.
- 1:06:05>> She's never been selfish, Claire. And
- 1:06:08don't call her a That's a
- 1:06:09really mean thing to say. No need to get
- 1:06:11all defensive. I'm just saying she needs
- 1:06:13to know her place.
- 1:06:15>> Her place? What? Like she's an animal or
- 1:06:18something.
- 1:06:20I never said that. You're putting words
- 1:06:21in my mouth.
- 1:06:24Look, I got to go. Coach is calling.
- 1:06:26Whatever. Just call me back when you're
- 1:06:28not acting all high and mighty. All
- 1:06:29right.
- 1:06:31Whatever.
- 1:06:35Hey, Coach.
- 1:06:37>> Hey, Jordan. Hey, I was just calling to
- 1:06:39check up on you. How's your leg?
- 1:06:43>> I think it's getting worse. I'm uh
- 1:06:45wrapping it now.
- 1:06:47>> Well, that's concerning. I'm hoping it's
- 1:06:50not a fracture.
- 1:06:54I've made you an appointment with a
- 1:06:55really good orthopedic surgeon first
- 1:06:57thing tomorrow morning. I'll text you
- 1:06:59the address.
- 1:07:00>> Okay. Uh yeah, I'll let my parents know.
- 1:07:03>> Let me know how it goes.
- 1:07:05>> I will. Thanks, coach.
- 1:07:07>> Bye now.
- 1:07:32[Music]
- 1:07:39You're really, aren't you, huh? I don't
- 1:07:41blame you. It's been a while since you
- 1:07:43do.
- 1:07:52[Music]
- 1:08:09[Music]
- 1:08:28That's my little girl.
- 1:08:34We treated her good.
- 1:08:38I know. I'm sorry, Todd. I I never
- 1:08:41thought in a million years Jordan would
- 1:08:43ever do anything like this.
- 1:08:48>> Wasn't like I I tried to read it. I did.
- 1:08:51>> I would never snoop at anyone's phone. I
- 1:08:53just picked it up and it popped up. It
- 1:08:55was like I was meant to see it.
- 1:09:00>> I'm glad you did.
- 1:09:09If you want, I'll go talk to Jordan and
- 1:09:11her parents tonight.
- 1:09:15Better you than me.
- 1:09:17I don't I don't want to see her again.
- 1:09:22>> Well, like I said, I'll go see them
- 1:09:24tonight and let me know if there's
- 1:09:26anything else I can do.
- 1:09:30>> I will. Okay.
- 1:09:33Thank you, pastor.
- 1:09:44>> How are those fries?
- 1:09:45>> They're good.
- 1:09:51>> Hey, Dad.
- 1:09:53>> Hey.
- 1:10:00>> Here you go.
- 1:10:07What's wrong?
- 1:10:09>> Nothing. I'm fine.
- 1:10:15>> You don't look fine.
- 1:10:23>> I um
- 1:10:27I saw the message on your phone, Annie.
- 1:10:30You were looking through my phone?
- 1:10:33>> No. Pastor Nome said when he picked up
- 1:10:36the phone, the screen came on. And
- 1:10:40>> I'm glad he saw it.
- 1:10:42>> What message?
- 1:10:44Somebody clue me in here?
- 1:10:48>> Sure.
- 1:11:03[Music]
- 1:11:08[Music]
- 1:11:27I am really sorry you had to go through
- 1:11:29this all on your own.
- 1:11:32I wish that we'd knew.
- 1:11:35It's
- 1:11:35>> like I said,
- 1:11:38none of this is yours or mom's fault.
- 1:11:41I have to figure this out on my own.
- 1:11:44>> You are not alone.
- 1:11:48>> No,
- 1:11:52>> but I'm the one that has to forgive
- 1:11:54Jordan
- 1:11:57>> and myself somehow.
- 1:12:03I tried to take my own life. Dad,
- 1:12:06that's a terrible sin.
- 1:12:13>> God loves you, ain't he?
- 1:12:19He loves you
- 1:12:22and is always willing to forgive.
- 1:12:26You just have to ask.
- 1:12:43I'm going to go talk to your mother.
- 1:12:50You are still my hero.
- 1:12:56Be right back.
- 1:13:06Please,
- 1:13:08please forgive me.
- 1:13:11[Music]
- 1:13:13I am so angry right now.
- 1:13:17>> So am I.
- 1:13:25Somehow we both need to
- 1:13:28learn how to forgive.
- 1:13:39[Music]
- 1:13:42This isn't like you, Jordan.
- 1:13:45Bullying is very serious.
- 1:13:47and can't be taken lightly.
- 1:13:51>> I know,
- 1:13:52but I didn't send that text message. I
- 1:13:54promise.
- 1:13:58>> I want to believe you. I I really do.
- 1:14:03But that text message was sent from your
- 1:14:05phone. I saw it with my own eyes.
- 1:14:10There's a lot at stake here. You could
- 1:14:12not only lose your scholarship, but you
- 1:14:14could be charged with a crime.
- 1:14:18and telling someone that the world would
- 1:14:21be better off without them.
- 1:14:23It doesn't get any cruer than that.
- 1:14:26>> I could never send that message to
- 1:14:28anyone,
- 1:14:30especially Annie.
- 1:14:34But no matter what, I'm a part of it.
- 1:14:39Even if I didn't send that text, I still
- 1:14:42feel responsible. God, I'm so sorry.
- 1:14:45>> Well, I'm glad you're willing to take
- 1:14:47responsibility,
- 1:14:50but what you need to realize is
- 1:14:54that text deeply wounded another human
- 1:14:57being.
- 1:14:59Someone who's been your very best friend
- 1:15:02for a very long time, who's been loyal
- 1:15:04to you and good to you.
- 1:15:08Friends like that are hard to find.
- 1:15:18Annie's in the hospital.
- 1:15:19>> She is?
- 1:15:22>> Yes. She She tried to take her own life.
- 1:15:25>> Oh, no.
- 1:15:28Poor Annie. I'm so sorry.
- 1:15:30>> She's She's going to be okay. But But we
- 1:15:35need to get to the bottom of this and
- 1:15:36set things right.
- 1:15:38>> How? I'll do anything.
- 1:15:41>> Well, for starters, you could apologize
- 1:15:43to Annie and her family.
- 1:15:46>> Of course,
- 1:15:48it's the right thing to do.
- 1:15:50>> Yeah, I think it's the bare minimum.
- 1:15:54>> I really didn't send that text.
- 1:15:58>> From what you've told me, and for what
- 1:16:00it's worth,
- 1:16:03I believe you're telling the truth.
- 1:16:07Well,
- 1:16:09I better get going. And
- 1:16:12>> we're glad you came. Let us know if
- 1:16:14there's anything we can do.
- 1:16:17>> I will, but right now I'm going to do a
- 1:16:19little investigating and see if I can
- 1:16:20find out how that text got sent from
- 1:16:22Jordan's phone.
- 1:16:23>> I think I might know.
- 1:16:27>> You do?
- 1:16:30My cheerleading coach, Mrs. Alice
- 1:16:33asked me a strange question earlier
- 1:16:34today at practice.
- 1:16:37>> What'd she say?
- 1:16:40>> She asked
- 1:16:42if I let Claire use my phone to text her
- 1:16:46mom.
- 1:16:49>> Well, I'm going to look into that.
- 1:16:52Oh, one more thing, Jordan.
- 1:16:55you're a really good person
- 1:16:58and bullying of any kind is
- 1:17:01unacceptable.
- 1:17:03And the next time you see anyone
- 1:17:05engaging in that kind of despicable
- 1:17:07behavior,
- 1:17:09you stand up to them.
- 1:17:12You be the kind of leader we know you
- 1:17:14are.
- 1:17:17>> Mhm. Yeah. Yeah. Uh-huh. Yeah. Sock.
- 1:17:22Yep. to toothpaste, toothbrush, socks.
- 1:17:27I think I got everything.
- 1:17:31>> What's wrong?
- 1:17:35>> I'm just worried this is going to happen
- 1:17:37again.
- 1:17:38>> It's not going to happen again. It's
- 1:17:41not. We're going to get her the help
- 1:17:43that she needs.
- 1:17:48>> You'll never believe who's here.
- 1:17:50>> What? Jordan,
- 1:17:52>> why is she there?
- 1:17:54>> I don't.
- 1:17:56>> Okay. Uh, take a deep breath. Uh, stay
- 1:17:59close to Annie. I I'll be there soon.
- 1:18:01>> Okay.
- 1:18:02>> I'll call you back.
- 1:18:03>> I'm on my way.
- 1:18:07>> Hi, Mrs. Timonss.
- 1:18:11>> I don't even know why you're here,
- 1:18:13Jordan.
- 1:18:16>> I've made a terrible mistake. I'll go.
- 1:18:19>> You didn't answer my question.
- 1:18:23Why are you here?
- 1:18:26[Music]
- 1:18:31>> I'm here because I need to apologize for
- 1:18:33what I've done.
- 1:18:36>> And do you even realize the magnitude of
- 1:18:38what you've done?
- 1:18:42>> I was cruel to someone who's been good
- 1:18:44to me.
- 1:18:45>> Cruel. Cruel only scratches the surface.
- 1:18:51Annie almost died because of you.
- 1:18:54>> I'm sorry.
- 1:18:56>> You're damn right you're sorry. You're a
- 1:18:58sorry excuse for a friend.
- 1:19:02>> I am. I I really am. You don't
- 1:19:06understand.
- 1:19:06>> No, I don't. I don't understand how you
- 1:19:08could do that to another human being,
- 1:19:10especially someone who was so good to
- 1:19:12you.
- 1:19:15We opened our home and our hearts to
- 1:19:17you, Jordan.
- 1:19:20Please forgive me.
- 1:19:26>> You're going to have to ask Annie for
- 1:19:28forgiveness before I will even give you
- 1:19:29the time of day.
- 1:19:33>> I feel sick even looking at you right
- 1:19:35now. Do you understand that? Do you
- 1:19:36understand what that's like?
- 1:19:45You go do what you have to do.
- 1:19:48But when I get back here, I do not want
- 1:19:50to see you here.
- 1:19:55[Music]
- 1:20:15Hey,
- 1:20:20why are you here?
- 1:20:22>> I'm here because I'm really sorry for
- 1:20:25everything that happened.
- 1:20:28>> The only reason you're sorry is because
- 1:20:30you probably got in trouble and your
- 1:20:32parents made you come.
- 1:20:33>> No.
- 1:20:35No. I'm here because I want to be.
- 1:20:39>> I don't care what happens to me.
- 1:20:41Whatever it is, I deserve it for turning
- 1:20:43my back on you.
- 1:20:46You're a cruel person, Jordan.
- 1:20:50You were my best friend. I trusted you
- 1:20:53with my life. I've always treated you
- 1:20:57kind.
- 1:20:59You have.
- 1:21:04I've never had a friend like you, Annie.
- 1:21:07You don't deserve a friend like me.
- 1:21:12No, I don't.
- 1:21:17What happened anyway?
- 1:21:20Why' you turn against me?
- 1:21:23Do I embarrass you? Am I ugly? What?
- 1:21:31I don't know what happened.
- 1:21:35I got selfish and prideful
- 1:21:39and I have no excuse.
- 1:21:44I just wanted to let you know how sorry
- 1:21:47I am.
- 1:21:50What I did was so wrong on every level.
- 1:21:55I'll make it up to you even if it takes
- 1:21:57me a million years.
- 1:22:01I already forgave you.
- 1:22:07You're dead.
- 1:22:10Yeah.
- 1:22:13I can't hold that kind of hate in my
- 1:22:15heart.
- 1:22:19I don't know if I can ever be friends
- 1:22:22with you again, but
- 1:22:25I forgive you.
- 1:22:34That's more than I deserve.
- 1:22:38[Music]
- 1:22:41And for what it's worth,
- 1:22:44I didn't send you that text message.
- 1:22:48Then who did?
- 1:22:52[Music]
- 1:22:55I have my suspicions.
- 1:22:57[Music]
- 1:22:58Uh, but I I don't want to say anything
- 1:23:00until I know for sure.
- 1:23:04Either way, I was wrong
- 1:23:07and I pray that we can be best friends
- 1:23:09again someday. You are so important to
- 1:23:12me, Annie.
- 1:23:25Jordan,
- 1:23:28what's wrong with your leg?
- 1:23:33>> Um,
- 1:23:34I'm not sure yet. I think I injured at
- 1:23:37cheerleading.
- 1:23:39>> I go to the doctor's right after this.
- 1:23:43>> Thank you for stopping by.
- 1:23:47That took a lot of courage.
- 1:23:53>> Just give me some time.
- 1:23:56>> Maybe things will be different someday.
- 1:23:59[Music]
- 1:24:01Hopefully sooner than later. I wonder
- 1:24:04why we don't apologize more often.
- 1:24:07It's so healing for everyone involved.
- 1:24:11Or at least it starts the healing
- 1:24:12process.
- 1:24:14Maybe it's that we don't even recognize
- 1:24:16that our words and actions caused
- 1:24:18another person pain.
- 1:24:21I think that's what hell is.
- 1:24:24Realizing that what we said or did
- 1:24:27>> brought sorrow to another.
- 1:24:28>> How long have you had the lump on your
- 1:24:30leg?
- 1:24:30>> Um I I noticed it for a few weeks. Um
- 1:24:35it's been hurting for a few months
- 1:24:36though.
- 1:24:38>> I thought it was getting worse because
- 1:24:39of cheerleading.
- 1:24:41>> What is it?
- 1:24:43Well, I'm not entirely sure. It could be
- 1:24:46any number of things,
- 1:24:48but that could be a tumor. A tumor?
- 1:24:54>> Is it cancer?
- 1:24:56>> Oh, no. No. I didn't say that. And I
- 1:24:57don't want either one of you to panic.
- 1:24:59Okay. If it is a tumor, uh, it's
- 1:25:02probably benign, which is most likely
- 1:25:04the case.
- 1:25:04>> What does that mean?
- 1:25:06>> That would mean non-cancerous.
- 1:25:09But you know what? I'd like to be sure.
- 1:25:12So,
- 1:25:14let's run some blood work and if that
- 1:25:16gives us any cause for alarm, then I'll
- 1:25:18arrange for a biopsy.
- 1:25:21And I'd like to do that blood work
- 1:25:22today. All right. I'll be right back.
- 1:25:33It's okay.
- 1:25:39Been through a lot today.
- 1:25:42Just let it go.
- 1:25:51There's no reason to deny it. I
- 1:25:53personally saw you do it. It was you who
- 1:25:56sent that text to Annie from Jordan's
- 1:25:58phone.
- 1:25:59We have proof. The school cameras, they
- 1:26:01caught everything.
- 1:26:03>> Okay. But I didn't mean for it to go
- 1:26:04that far.
- 1:26:05>> It doesn't matter.
- 1:26:08If you are charged, it could be a felony
- 1:26:11that could change the course of your
- 1:26:13entire life. I'm sorry.
- 1:26:17>> Not only did you send the message, but
- 1:26:19you lied about it. And then you were
- 1:26:22perfectly willing to let Jordan take the
- 1:26:24blame.
- 1:26:27You've been bullying Annie since you
- 1:26:29were little girls.
- 1:26:31Why, Claire?
- 1:26:34>> I don't know. She's just
- 1:26:38She's so different.
- 1:26:40Wow.
- 1:26:42Wow.
- 1:26:45Because she's different.
- 1:26:48That's what makes each one of us special
- 1:26:50in God's eyes.
- 1:26:53What a horrible excuse.
- 1:26:55>> I said, "I'm sorry. What else do you
- 1:26:56want me to do?"
- 1:26:58>> You need to ask Annie and God for
- 1:27:00forgiveness, not me.
- 1:27:04I'll pray for you, Claire.
- 1:27:08I hope you find some peace in your
- 1:27:09heart. I really do.
- 1:27:14I think I'm done here. Thank you for
- 1:27:16your time.
- 1:27:22What happens now?
- 1:27:24>> Well, I'm going to call your parents and
- 1:27:26then the police.
- 1:27:30I have the team.
- 1:27:33>> Yeah.
- 1:27:35She admitted it.
- 1:27:37>> Right there in front of me and your
- 1:27:39coach as a witness. She's in a lot of
- 1:27:42trouble to say the least.
- 1:27:44>> I feel so bad for Jordan now.
- 1:27:46>> I do, too. I was so mean to her earlier.
- 1:27:49>> Oh, honey, you didn't know.
- 1:27:51>> I'm sure she understands. What matters
- 1:27:53most is the truth is out there in the
- 1:27:55open now. And I heard you two had a good
- 1:27:59talk.
- 1:28:00>> Yeah, she stopped by and apologized and
- 1:28:03I forgave her. Even before you knew the
- 1:28:06truth.
- 1:28:07>> Yeah, I guess so.
- 1:28:12>> You truly are an amazing person, Annie.
- 1:28:14We could all learn from you. Christlike
- 1:28:17love and forgiveness at its finest.
- 1:28:22So proud of you.
- 1:28:25>> I don't see what the big deal is. This
- 1:28:27is what teens do.
- 1:28:28>> Yeah, she didn't mean to cause any harm.
- 1:28:31The big deal is Annie tried to take her
- 1:28:34own life. The text your daughter sent it
- 1:28:37was the straw that broke the camel's
- 1:28:38back. This kind of bullying behavior's
- 1:28:41gone on for years. I've seen how Clare
- 1:28:44treats her.
- 1:28:46>> Who are you to be placing judgment?
- 1:28:50You're a cheerleading coach.
- 1:28:52>> Let me handle this. I'm not going to
- 1:28:54stand here and let you blame my
- 1:28:56daughter. That girl's always had
- 1:28:59problems. No one likes her.
- 1:29:01>> Sir, you need to calm down.
- 1:29:02>> No, I'm not going to calm down. This is
- 1:29:04my daughter we're talking about.
- 1:29:06>> I don't feel comfortable with you in
- 1:29:07here anymore.
- 1:29:08>> That's just too damn bad. You're the one
- 1:29:10who asked me to come down here in the
- 1:29:11first place.
- 1:29:12>> Last warning. Lower your voice.
- 1:29:14>> I'm calm. We'll do a thorough
- 1:29:16investigation on this. If Annie and her
- 1:29:18parents want to press charges, you'll
- 1:29:19hear from the courts
- 1:29:21>> and you'll lose. I'll counter sue you
- 1:29:24and this entire school district for
- 1:29:26harassment. You do what you have to do.
- 1:29:29>> But Dad, I did it. I
- 1:29:30>> got this.
- 1:29:33>> Wow. I have no words.
- 1:29:35>> I don't have to deal with this kind of
- 1:29:36disrespect. This conversation is over.
- 1:29:39You can all go home now.
- 1:29:41>> Let's go.
- 1:29:42>> Damn right. It's over. Let's go.
- 1:29:46>> This isn't over.
- 1:29:50>> I'll talk to Annie and her family and
- 1:29:51see what they want to do. Let me know if
- 1:29:54you need anything else.
- 1:29:55>> I will. Thank you.
- 1:29:59I should have believed you. I'm really
- 1:30:02sorry, Jordan. You didn't do anything
- 1:30:04wrong.
- 1:30:06This is my fault. I'm just glad it's
- 1:30:09over. I learned my lesson. I won't be
- 1:30:11cheerleading anymore.
- 1:30:12>> But Wyatt, it's what you love.
- 1:30:15>> Not really.
- 1:30:18It's not important to me.
- 1:30:20You're important to me, Annie. I really
- 1:30:24want to still be friends.
- 1:30:27Best friends.
- 1:30:30>> Best friends. Yeah.
- 1:30:32>> I'll be home in a few days. Maybe you
- 1:30:34can come over for dinner.
- 1:30:36>> Yeah, I would like that.
- 1:30:38>> Talk soon.
- 1:30:39>> Yeah. Talk soon. Bye, Annie. Bye,
- 1:30:42Jordan.
- 1:30:51So proud of you.
- 1:30:53[Music]
- 1:30:56I'm scared. I know.
- 1:31:00But just remember what the doctor said.
- 1:31:02There's no need to worry. It's probably
- 1:31:05nothing.
- 1:31:07We'll get more information from the
- 1:31:08biopsy tomorrow.
- 1:31:13>> That sounded like it went well.
- 1:31:15>> Yeah, I got my best friend back.
- 1:31:19>> See, I told you everything's going to be
- 1:31:20okay.
- 1:31:24What kind of cancer?
- 1:31:27>> Acute myoid leukemia. It's a fast
- 1:31:30growing cancer of the blood and bone
- 1:31:32marrow.
- 1:31:33>> Her daughter has leukemia.
- 1:31:36>> I'm afraid so. And in Jordan's case, the
- 1:31:40tumor is pretty far advanced.
- 1:31:42>> Is it fatal?
- 1:31:44>> It can be.
- 1:31:46Listen, I'm going to be very honest with
- 1:31:48all of you. This particular type of
- 1:31:51leukemia, it's extremely rare. It has a
- 1:31:54survival rate of 24%.
- 1:31:57So, time is of the essence. We need to
- 1:31:59make decisions. And after consulting
- 1:32:02with my colleagues, our professional
- 1:32:04opinion is that we take a very
- 1:32:06aggressive approach.
- 1:32:08>> What does that mean exactly?
- 1:32:10>> It means Jordan's going to need a bone
- 1:32:12marrow transplant.
- 1:32:14It also means we need to find a donor.
- 1:32:17And from that donor, we'll take healthy
- 1:32:20red blood cells. We'll put them in your
- 1:32:22bloodstream. And from there, they'll
- 1:32:24begin to grow. They'll make new red
- 1:32:27blood cells, new white blood cells, and
- 1:32:29new platelets.
- 1:32:31But before we can do any of that,
- 1:32:33Jordan, you're going to need to undergo
- 1:32:35chemotherapy, which will prepare your
- 1:32:38body to receive the bone marrow
- 1:32:40transplant.
- 1:32:41Can one of us be a donor?
- 1:32:43>> That's a very good question. Um, very
- 1:32:45often a brother or a sister or a parent
- 1:32:48can be a suitable match.
- 1:32:49>> I'll do it.
- 1:32:50>> So will I.
- 1:32:51>> Okay. And hopefully one of you is a
- 1:32:54match, but being a family member doesn't
- 1:32:56mean that's necessarily the case. As
- 1:32:59donors and patients are matched by HLA
- 1:33:02and not by blood type.
- 1:33:03>> When can we start?
- 1:33:04>> No, we can actually do it right now. A
- 1:33:07simple cheek swab will let us know if
- 1:33:09you're a suitable match.
- 1:33:11I'll go set that up. Thank you.
- 1:33:22>> No, I I don't want to press charges.
- 1:33:24>> Are you sure?
- 1:33:26What if she does this again to somebody
- 1:33:28else?
- 1:33:29>> I don't know, Dad. I just I feel like
- 1:33:32that will only make things worse
- 1:33:34>> for you or for Claire?
- 1:33:36>> Her I'll be fine. I need to forgive her
- 1:33:41and move on. I don't think that she
- 1:33:44knows how to be nice to people. Maybe
- 1:33:47maybe this will help her change.
- 1:33:49>> I've got to say, Annie, I've never met
- 1:33:51someone quite like you.
- 1:33:53>> I just want everyone to be happy.
- 1:33:55>> Well, I'll make a note of this and be on
- 1:33:58my way. You folks have a good day.
- 1:34:02You as well.
- 1:34:10>> Neither one of us are a match.
- 1:34:13>> I'm sorry. U I really am. But actually,
- 1:34:16it's not that uncommon. There are other
- 1:34:18ways of finding a donor. I can put
- 1:34:21Jordan on a donor list, and I can do
- 1:34:23that right away. But honestly, the
- 1:34:26fastest way is for you to reach out to
- 1:34:28family and to friends, to anybody who
- 1:34:30you think might be willing to be a
- 1:34:32donor.
- 1:34:34I'll be back in a few minutes.
- 1:34:48>> Hey, Annie.
- 1:34:49>> Hey. I just I wanted to say hi and let
- 1:34:52you know that I'm coming home a day
- 1:34:53early.
- 1:34:55That's great. I'm so happy for you. Are
- 1:34:58you okay?
- 1:35:00>> Yeah. Yeah, I'm fine.
- 1:35:04How's your leg? What did the doctor say?
- 1:35:07>> I'm uh still waiting to find out more
- 1:35:10details.
- 1:35:11>> Okay. Well, let me know if I can do
- 1:35:14anything to help.
- 1:35:15>> I will. Thanks, Sne. Of
- 1:35:17>> course. I'll see you soon.
- 1:35:20>> Yeah, see you soon.
- 1:35:22Bye.
- 1:35:26[Music]
- 1:35:32All right, I got everything all packed
- 1:35:34up. You girls ready to go?
- 1:35:38>> What's wrong?
- 1:35:41>> I don't know. I
- 1:35:44I just called Jordan to let her know
- 1:35:45that I'm coming home a day early, but
- 1:35:48something seemed off.
- 1:35:50>> I wouldn't worry too much about it. She
- 1:35:51was probably just preoccupied. I'm sure
- 1:35:54she's really excited you're coming home.
- 1:35:56>> Yeah.
- 1:36:00>> Should we get going? Let's hit the road.
- 1:36:06>> All right, let's go home.
- 1:36:11>> Annie,
- 1:36:13we're so glad that you're back with us.
- 1:36:17We love you with all our hearts.
- 1:36:20You truly are irreplaceable.
- 1:36:27But now we face another mountain to
- 1:36:31climb
- 1:36:34and it requires great faith.
- 1:36:37Most of you are not aware of this yet,
- 1:36:40but
- 1:36:42Tommy and Jill Monroe have given me
- 1:36:45permission to
- 1:36:47share with you some
- 1:36:50very somber news concerning their
- 1:36:52daughter, Jordan.
- 1:36:58She has been diagnosed with leukemia,
- 1:37:02a life-threatening cancer that
- 1:37:05requires her to get a bone marrow
- 1:37:07transplant very soon.
- 1:37:11And unfortunately,
- 1:37:13neither Jill nor Tommy are a match. And
- 1:37:20they've asked me to
- 1:37:23ask if you would consider being a donor
- 1:37:27if anyone is willing to do that.
- 1:37:33We might be their only hope.
- 1:37:37So please, I if you if you feel like
- 1:37:39this is something that you would
- 1:37:42consider doing, get with me after church
- 1:37:44and I'll give you some more information.
- 1:37:48And we'll also be holding a fundraiser
- 1:37:50very soon in order to help cover the
- 1:37:53hardship and the cost for the operation.
- 1:37:59Please
- 1:38:02pray for more miracles.
- 1:38:06May God bless you all.
- 1:38:09Are you sure about this?
- 1:38:12>> Positive.
- 1:38:14She would do it for me. I know she
- 1:38:15would.
- 1:38:16>> Well, I I'm deeply moved by your
- 1:38:18willingness to help. And since no one
- 1:38:21else has come forward, uh, hopefully
- 1:38:23you're a match
- 1:38:26and you're okay with this.
- 1:38:28>> We feel like it's up to her.
- 1:38:32>> I am curious about any side effects that
- 1:38:34we might need to be aware of.
- 1:38:36>> Well, you would need to ask her doctor
- 1:38:38about that, but uh, I've written down
- 1:38:41some information for you.
- 1:38:45>> Please don't let her know.
- 1:38:47I'd like to be the one to tell her if
- 1:38:49I'm a match.
- 1:38:51>> You got it.
- 1:38:53>> I'll just swab the inside of your cheek
- 1:38:55and we'll have the results in a few
- 1:38:57hours. Uh, we were just wondering about
- 1:38:59the risk or side effects of being a
- 1:39:02donor.
- 1:39:03>> Well, there's always some risk, but only
- 1:39:062.4% of people who donate bone marrow
- 1:39:09have any kind of a serious complication.
- 1:39:11More commonly, there's headaches, bone
- 1:39:14or muscles, tenderness, but sort of like
- 1:39:17having a cold or the flu, but that's
- 1:39:19usually a few days before we take
- 1:39:20collection, and then it goes away after
- 1:39:22we're done.
- 1:39:24>> That's good to know.
- 1:39:26You really sure you want to go through
- 1:39:27with this?
- 1:39:28>> Yes, Dad. I know I'll be okay,
- 1:39:33>> right?
- 1:39:35Just open for me.
- 1:39:39>> And that is it. We're all done. You're a
- 1:39:42very brave girl, Annie. Fingers crossed.
- 1:39:47>> I'm sorry I didn't call. Um
- 1:39:51I don't want to be a burden
- 1:39:54after everything that you've been
- 1:39:55through. You're never a burden,
- 1:39:59but I understand why you didn't call. We
- 1:40:01really appreciate you coming over to
- 1:40:03visit.
- 1:40:04>> I can't imagine how hard this has been
- 1:40:06on all of you, especially you, Jordan.
- 1:40:11I I want to apologize for how I treated
- 1:40:14you.
- 1:40:16I am so sorry.
- 1:40:18>> You don't need to apologize. Really?
- 1:40:21>> Uh Jordan,
- 1:40:23there's something Annie wanted to come
- 1:40:26over and tell you.
- 1:40:31>> Sure. What is it, Annie?
- 1:40:40I'm a match.
- 1:40:43What do you mean?
- 1:40:46I'm a 50% match,
- 1:40:49which is more than enough.
- 1:40:52I want to be your donor for your bone
- 1:40:56marrow transplant.
- 1:41:01even after everything I did to you.
- 1:41:04[Music]
- 1:41:06You would still do that for me.
- 1:41:11All that matters now
- 1:41:13is that you know how much I love you.
- 1:41:18You're my best friend.
- 1:41:21You always will be. Annie's willingness
- 1:41:24to be a donor changed my life.
- 1:41:27I wouldn't be here today without her.
- 1:41:31And so the process began.
- 1:41:34For the next few weeks, I had to go
- 1:41:36through chemotherapy or what is called
- 1:41:39conditioning to kill any disease cells
- 1:41:42and malfunctioning bone marrow. I got
- 1:41:45pretty sick. A lot of my hair fell out.
- 1:41:49I lost weight. And of course, I was off
- 1:41:52the cheerleading team.
- 1:41:55But none of that really mattered
- 1:41:57>> because I had the chance to live
- 1:42:00and my best friend was back.
- 1:42:03>> I realized more than ever before how
- 1:42:06important God, family, and real friends
- 1:42:08truly are.
- 1:42:10>> Being popular means absolutely nothing
- 1:42:13in the end.
- 1:42:15>> If I had died,
- 1:42:16>> I couldn't have taken that with me.
- 1:42:19>> We can only take the love in our hearts.
- 1:42:21as she underos this ordeal.
- 1:42:23>> I'm just sad that I had to hurt someone
- 1:42:25really important to me
- 1:42:27>> and almost die for me to fully realize
- 1:42:29that.
- 1:42:30>> In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
- 1:42:33>> Amen.
- 1:42:38[Music]
- 1:42:44Annie was way more brave than me. She
- 1:42:47always has been.
- 1:42:49I was really scared,
- 1:42:52but when I came too, I was surrounded
- 1:42:56with all the people who I know and love
- 1:42:58the most.
- 1:42:59>> She's waking up.
- 1:43:02And I hope that's what heaven feels
- 1:43:04like.
- 1:43:06The next few months in the hospital were
- 1:43:08a time of healing and praying that the
- 1:43:10bone marrow transplant would work.
- 1:43:13Annie was there with me every step of
- 1:43:16the way.
- 1:43:18She never left my side.
- 1:43:21>> She even helped me with my homework and
- 1:43:23testing so that I could keep my grades
- 1:43:26up and graduate on time.
- 1:43:30>> Thankfully,
- 1:43:31the transplant was a success.
- 1:43:35>> And I was finally able to go home.
- 1:43:38[Music]
- 1:43:40>> I can never pay God, Annie, or this
- 1:43:43community back for what you've all done
- 1:43:45for me and my family.
- 1:43:47The fundraisers helped us more than you
- 1:43:50know.
- 1:43:51>> I'll forever be grateful and in your
- 1:43:53debt.
- 1:43:56>> Yeah.
- 1:43:57>> Just make sure they do a good job.
- 1:44:00>> For real.
- 1:44:03>> I think many of us, myself included,
- 1:44:06don't really understand or pay much
- 1:44:08attention to miracles.
- 1:44:12We write them off as coincidence or
- 1:44:16sometimes just ignore them.
- 1:44:19But the truth is
- 1:44:22there are miracles all around us.
- 1:44:27The people in our lives are miracles.
- 1:44:34Annie
- 1:44:36is a miracle to me.
- 1:44:38[Music]
- 1:44:42a precious gift as she has been for many
- 1:44:45of us.
- 1:44:48All of us for that matter.
- 1:44:51Some of us just didn't see it.
- 1:44:56Thank you, Annie.
- 1:45:01I love you so much.
- 1:45:06Thank you for loving me.
- 1:45:10Thank you for forgiving me
- 1:45:15and thank you for always being by my
- 1:45:17side.
- 1:45:22We can all learn something very
- 1:45:24important from your shining example.
- 1:45:28And as we go out into the world
- 1:45:31on our own unique paths,
- 1:45:34I certainly hope and pray that we do.
- 1:45:38So
- 1:45:40to the class of 2024,
- 1:45:43[Music]
- 1:45:45here we come.

- 1:47:45Start over, start late, start scared.
- 1:47:49You've got to start somewhere.

- 1:49:23[Music]
- 1:49:28It's been a long time since it's been
- 1:49:32here. And my frowning face has
- 1:49:36disappeared
- 1:49:38because
- 1:49:41I found a friend today.
- 1:49:44[Music]
- 1:49:49No more tears rolling off my pillow like
- 1:49:54all this time to search and sift. But I
- 1:49:59struggle gold.
- 1:50:02I found a friend today.
- 1:50:07[Music]
- 1:50:31I'll wake tomorrow with a smile on my
