- 0:00slow and sleepy but incredibly powerful
- 0:03when roused espinas is one of the most
- 0:06mysterious and yet revered beasts in the
- 0:08known world it's even temperament
- 0:11extends to most who don't threaten it
- 0:13but a few mad few still choose to hunt
- 0:16it but despite its power and wife and
- 0:19lineage it mainly eats small prey so
- 0:22let's see what we can do to unpack the
- 0:24Enigma that is espinas
- 0:26and one of espinas's signature behaviors
- 0:29is just how much of a sleepy boy he is
- 0:32they can typically be found resting for
- 0:34long periods of the day and are
- 0:36difficult and slow to wake in short if
- 0:39they can help it espinacious do what
- 0:41they can to not expend energy and with a
- 0:44sluggish nature and long rest periods
- 0:46they likely have a relatively low
- 0:48metabolic rate but this isn't always the
- 0:51case once properly woken up espinas is
- 0:54capable of incredible Feats of Strength
- 0:56and fights as fiercely as other wivens
- 0:59he's considered on a similar level to so
- 1:02it's likely espinas can alter its own
- 1:04metabolic rate for various reasons for
- 1:07most of the time espinas keeps things on
- 1:09the down low and even comparatively
- 1:12strenuous activities like hunting and
- 1:14movement it may still not really charge
- 1:16itself up for forcibly waking espinas
- 1:20does the trick of getting it fully
- 1:21active unlike anything else espinas is
- 1:24probably pretty willing to burn the
- 1:26calories to protect its own life but the
- 1:29more natural and seasonal cause for it
- 1:31still having the option to kick things
- 1:32up a notch is likely reproduction in
- 1:35tegus we see something similar whilst
- 1:38for most of the Year their metabolic
- 1:39rates are pretty similar to other
- 1:41lizards come the reproductive season
- 1:43their metabolism spikes considerably and
- 1:46they become much more active becoming
- 1:48somewhat endothermic and this is all to
- 1:51breed males have to produce sperm find
- 1:54females and repel rival males and
- 1:57females have to produce eggs build nests
- 1:59and then guard them and it isn't just
- 2:02tea Goose monotremes like echidnas and
- 2:05primitive mammals like tenrex also
- 2:07undergo enhanced endothermia when it
- 2:09comes to reproduction and for the same
- 2:11reasons so espanas may well be similar
- 2:14and they likely have a set season they
- 2:16breed in and become a lot more active at
- 2:18this period individuals will be burning
- 2:21a lot more energy with them moving and
- 2:23eating more and in the case of the males
- 2:25flattening sections of foreign rest in
- 2:27combat bull espinas fights likely
- 2:30comprise of opponents trying to angle
- 2:32the horn to gore each other's soft
- 2:34underparts and flip each other over with
- 2:37a successful flip likely showing a clear
- 2:39winner and the loser fleeing in a hurry
- 2:41some conflicts may be averted though
- 2:44espinas has a blue tongue a lot like the
- 2:47Blue-tongued skink and whilst this was
- 2:50initially thought to be a clear-cut
- 2:51predator repellent by a postmatism it
- 2:54may not be that simple some of the
- 2:56skink's Predators don't see that
- 2:58wavelength of light or aren't in a
- 3:01position to be exposed to it rather it's
- 3:03believed this is for other reptiles and
- 3:06chiefly are the skinks in particular
- 3:07being to reduce skin on skink violence
- 3:10among their own kind by having a clear
- 3:12warning to others Predator defense may
- 3:15just be a secondary feature so perhaps
- 3:18Espionage try to regulate their own
- 3:20conflict giving each other blue tongued
- 3:22warnings before to try and prevent a
- 3:24fight breaking out at least some of the
- 3:26time time female Aspen ass will be busy
- 3:29making nests and in the rich Leaf litter
- 3:31espinas nests likely compose of a mound
- 3:34of decomposing vegetation to keep the
- 3:37eggs warm camouflaged and sheltered
- 3:39whilst protected by the mother once
- 3:41hatched to espinas may live much of its
- 3:44life in the slow lane whilst it may have
- 3:47a speedier metabolism as a chick
- 3:49compared to other wyverns it may be
- 3:51comparatively slow growing and take a
- 3:53lot longer to reach sexual maturity but
- 3:56with the added bonus that relative to
- 3:58body mass espinas may be some of the
- 4:00longest lived wyverns the jungle
- 4:03environment may also be a key factor in
- 4:05why espinas went down this route in the
- 4:07first place too as said a few times
- 4:10before jungle's rally team with large
- 4:12amounts of herbivore biomass existing
- 4:15large herbivores are scattered at low
- 4:17densities and smaller ones are often at
- 4:20least partially arboreal making them
- 4:22hard to reach in short not huge amounts
- 4:25for a big game hunter to indeed when the
- 4:28espinas ancestor arrived in Jungle areas
- 4:30it was likely a more typical wife and
- 4:32like wrathion a chiefly ground-based
- 4:35Predator but with some Volant capacity
- 4:37keeping your metabolism low for much of
- 4:40the year would definitely be a trade
- 4:42selected for among them to deal with the
- 4:44comparative food scarcity as well as the
- 4:47price switching over time to smaller low
- 4:49effort prey items that can be caught
- 4:51easily and regularly espinas may still
- 4:54have a lunge for a big game occasionally
- 4:56and will readily scavenge any carcass
- 4:59but for the most part it's a wyvern
- 5:01that's moved away from macro predation
- 5:03due to its environment and settled into
- 5:06life in the slow lane the hot jungle
- 5:09environment may also help it stay warm
- 5:11too allowing espinas to rest with
- 5:13minimal energy to keep homeostasis
- 5:15ticking over evolutionarily too espinas
- 5:19may not have fallen so far from the
- 5:21family tree in I am the Kaiju Kings
- 5:24family tree of wyverns Esperance was in
- 5:27the hard-shelled wyven family with basil
- 5:30juice the wraths and the Bloss wyverns
- 5:32among others and the ability to exhibit
- 5:34metabolic control may be a staple of
- 5:37this family basil juice is confirmed to
- 5:39be able to do so for the production of
- 5:41its bombs and presumably to lower its
- 5:44metabolic rate further for rest periods
- 5:46it doesn't seem overt in the wraths but
- 5:49it would be a very useful ability to
- 5:51have for single nesting rathians
- 5:53lowering metabolism while brooding would
- 5:55mean the mother can spend more time in
- 5:57the nest protecting the eggs and will
- 6:00overall need less food as well both
- 6:02crucial traits with the potential amount
- 6:04of Nest predators and low densities of
- 6:06prey in areas where Singletons often
- 6:09Nest the Bloss wyverns may be something
- 6:12of an anomaly and with low food density
- 6:14as herbivores they may be comparatively
- 6:17active animals over much of the 24-hour
- 6:19period moving between foraging patches
- 6:22and so this comparatively High activity
- 6:24rate means they have a higher average
- 6:26metabolism
- 6:27espinas's lethargic demeanor extends to
- 6:31many aspects of its day-to-day life and
- 6:33includes feeding too despite its power
- 6:36and being well armed espinas prefers
- 6:39small low effort prey that can be caught
- 6:41regularly and easily and so it's no
- 6:43surprise it helps itself to the banquet
- 6:45of invertebrates that the jungles of the
- 6:47known world have to offer espinas hunts
- 6:50almost like a giant Heron waiting in
- 6:53place potentially for very long periods
- 6:54of time for something to emerge from the
- 6:56leaf litter before it strikes espinastas
- 6:59have pronounced ears albeit not to the
- 7:02extent of sympatric bird wyverns like
- 7:05yandkurku and garuga but primarily it
- 7:08likely uses its great sense of smell
- 7:10when foraging espinas can be seen
- 7:12sniffing areas before waiting and so it
- 7:15does seem it uses primarily olfactory
- 7:17foraging versus the Yan's auditory it's
- 7:21worth noting too espinas has something
- 7:23of a gut much more so than other flying
- 7:25wyverns this is unlikely to be a fat
- 7:28store and is more likely to be an
- 7:30enlarged digestive system and may imply
- 7:33espinas could potentially even take some
- 7:35plant matter into its diet too even if
- 7:38just high energy foods like Fallen fruit
- 7:40or nuts it may also be that with his low
- 7:43metabolism espinas breaks food down over
- 7:45long periods of time too hornitors are
- 7:48one such common prey item and with a
- 7:51diet of a lot of bugs that's going to
- 7:53result in eating a lot of chitin some
- 7:56specialized insectivores have enzymes
- 7:58capable of partially breaking down
- 8:00chitin for some extra carbohydrate
- 8:02energy so espinos may use a very long
- 8:05gut retention time to suck all the
- 8:07possible nutrients out of its prey
- 8:09another item on the menu may be
- 8:11hermitors the giant rainforest Lake area
- 8:15is a breeding ground for the adult
- 8:16demios who as well as water seem to
- 8:19require chiefly Sandy soils for breeding
- 8:22and general habitat and it can't be
- 8:24understated how much a lot of the
- 8:26carnival or so generalist animals in
- 8:28such areas may depend on them demios are
- 8:31large and not hugely rare they're not
- 8:34exactly velocopy but they're also not as
- 8:36rare as Zora either they're about as
- 8:38common as other animals in their Quest
- 8:40bracket but they only form a fraction of
- 8:43the overall species population with
- 8:45their presumably explosive breeding
- 8:47Habits Like Other crabs they likely
- 8:50eject literal hundreds of Offspring out
- 8:52at a time all probably around the size
- 8:54of a real hermit crab themselves whilst
- 8:57only a few of these make it to damio
- 8:59size plenty more survive to the size of
- 9:02a man at least with the frequency of
- 9:03hermitors in such areas so the
- 9:06population of damios likely expels tens
- 9:09of thousands on a yearly basis and
- 9:12everything can eat them as the young
- 9:14grow they gradually get more and more
- 9:16immune to predation but then they're
- 9:18still replenished on a yearly basis so
- 9:21with a rich and constant supply of food
- 9:23the lake forests May support a huge
- 9:25amount of semi or or fully specialist
- 9:27wyverns like the Yan's astelos and
- 9:30espinas with the constant flow of
- 9:32hermitors pouring in as mentioned in
- 9:35desert ecosystems hermitors are likely
- 9:37important in supporting other animals
- 9:39too like cephalos schools and espinos
- 9:43may be poised to take maximum Advantage
- 9:45here with its large size and robust Jaws
- 9:48it can likely eat any hermit or and
- 9:51potentially even the damios themselves
- 9:53if sufficiently hungry its large gut and
- 9:56long retention times mean it's able to
- 9:58digest all of them too espanas's armor
- 10:01May well have a high mineral cost that
- 10:03hermitor shells can contribute to
- 10:05espinas's Jaws may also be especially
- 10:08handy here after the first damio hunt in
- 10:10sunbreak it seems even Fierce Predators
- 10:13like Luna Garen May struggle to pierce a
- 10:15damio or shogun's shell whilst they may
- 10:18be slow and unresponsive monsters much
- 10:20of the time with relatively poor sight
- 10:22they're still pretty heavily armored and
- 10:25many wivens May still struggle to get at
- 10:28their succulent crab meat espinas's deep
- 10:30mandible and large teeth can likely
- 10:32handle stress as well and perform a
- 10:35successful job as crab crackers its
- 10:38hunting Behavior can be applied well to
- 10:40the giant crabs and there's no shortage
- 10:42of them so indeed they make for an ideal
- 10:45food and damio's spawning efforts may be
- 10:47partially responsible for converting the
- 10:49espinos ancestor to this lifestyle too
- 10:52such events are likely attended by many
- 10:55animals of all sizes and in our own
- 10:58world termite emergencies are
- 10:59capitalized on even by large Predators
- 11:02like lions and hyenas who lap up the fat
- 11:05Rich bugs in Monster Hunter even large
- 11:08Predator wyverns probably aren't above
- 11:10hoovering up the baby hermitors at
- 11:12spawning events and espinas ancestors
- 11:15may have adapted over time to stick to
- 11:17this resource and were able to expand it
- 11:19to other prey like hornitors as well
- 11:21when needs must and possibly enjoyments
- 11:25espinas May occasion only dabble in
- 11:27larger meals with little variation in
- 11:29hunting strategy lying camouflaged on
- 11:32the forest floor with very little
- 11:34movement espinos may still be able to
- 11:36hunt much like a snake or a crocodile
- 11:38might on land lying beside Forest Trails
- 11:41waiting for potential targets to stray
- 11:43too close before making a lunge for them
- 11:46espinas hunts likely don't have much of
- 11:48a Chase outside the initial lunge
- 11:50regardless of a strike or not and
- 11:53unsuccessful hits prayer likely killed
- 11:55outright by the force of the bite any
- 11:58rare escapees from a bite likely leave a
- 12:00sufficient blood trail for espinos to
- 12:03follow at its typically leisurely pace
- 12:06espinas may also be picky about where it
- 12:08hunts when going for bigger prey too
- 12:10puff adders often thought to be the
- 12:13kings of sitting around and doing
- 12:14nothing all day will go on considerable
- 12:17travels to find appropriate Ambush spots
- 12:19when fuj deprived to try and increase
- 12:21their odds of a meal so espanas may be
- 12:24similar carefully picking Ambush spots
- 12:26for maximum success at any point in its
- 12:29territory its Keen nose also allows her
- 12:31to sniff out carrion an espinozzle
- 12:34readily scavenge at any opportunity not
- 12:36being the type to pass up a free meal
- 12:39rainforests aren't ideal areas to be
- 12:41scavengers the humid environment speeds
- 12:44decomposition and hosts huge
- 12:46invertebrate and microorganism
- 12:48communities much more likely to pick
- 12:50bodies clean before you do so carrion
- 12:53may be a rare Retreat for espinas this
- 12:56can vary from rainforest to Rainforest
- 12:59depending on the Guild of invertebrates
- 13:00and microorganisms but for the most part
- 13:03warm and wet means fast decomposition
- 13:05position so speed is of the essence for
- 13:08espinas to find carrion and it may often
- 13:11be in the form of stolen kills from
- 13:13nagakuga when it dares to order off menu
- 13:16and go for something closer to its own
- 13:18body mass despite the noise and Chaos of
- 13:20a kill smell is likely espinas's key
- 13:23method of finding carrion and it may be
- 13:26possible others are prepared to freeload
- 13:28off this as well hypnocatrice is a bird
- 13:31wyvern sympatrick with espinas and
- 13:33nagakuga in the great forest in the
- 13:36original art book it's described as a
- 13:38condor wyvern and its hooked Bill does
- 13:41seem well suited to picket carrion
- 13:43hypnocoties can fly but finding carrion
- 13:46by sight in a dense rainforest is hard
- 13:49after Condors King vultures are the
- 13:52largest neo-tropical vultures and
- 13:54foraged mainly by sight while soaring at
- 13:57high altitudes as most do but they're
- 13:59not looking for carrion they look for
- 14:01smaller cathartis genus vultures like
- 14:04yellow-headed or turkey vultures who use
- 14:07smell to find carrion and once they
- 14:09found something the king descends to
- 14:11claim his share if hypnocatures is
- 14:14similar it could well use espinas to
- 14:16find kills following it from above to
- 14:18find carrion King vultures will also do
- 14:21this with Jaguars themselves following
- 14:24the cats to see if they make a kill or
- 14:26waiting in the vicinity near large
- 14:28potential prey items hypnocatris is then
- 14:31uniquely equipped to deal with espinas
- 14:33before he Hoovers up all the food for
- 14:36all his fire and resistance to toxins
- 14:38he's still vulnerable to sedatives and
- 14:41hypnocoties may well drug it unconscious
- 14:43so it can feed in the great forest
- 14:45hypnocotry snugakuga and espinas may
- 14:48have something of a rock paper scissors
- 14:50relationship over kills with espinas
- 14:53robbing Naga cougar and then getting
- 14:55robbed in turn by hypnocatris who runs
- 14:58the risk of nagakuga coming back once
- 15:00espinas is asleep an important part of
- 15:03espinas died too is the assorted toads
- 15:05that live in in the leaf litter whilst
- 15:08these can be caught in similar fashion
- 15:09to hornetools and may only provide a
- 15:12small portion of s Manassas energetic
- 15:14requirements they do provide it with key
- 15:17toxins and this is known as sequesterine
- 15:20the act of eating someone or something
- 15:22toxic and then being able to utilize
- 15:25said toxins for yourself it's hard to
- 15:28say if this is innate or learned in
- 15:29espinas whether they became immune from
- 15:32Millennia of feeding by shoveling
- 15:34through Leaf litter and just let it
- 15:36happen or if they preferentially select
- 15:38for poisonous food to make themselves a
- 15:40less appetizing Target mammals that
- 15:43select for venomous or poisonous spray
- 15:45in their diets can often develop
- 15:47immunities to the toxins with mongooses
- 15:50honey badgers and hedgehogs being
- 15:52examples but surprisingly pigs too pigs
- 15:56will eat anything but with their rooting
- 15:58lifestyle it could also be that they're
- 16:00going to come into contact with snakes
- 16:02anyway regardless of attempted predation
- 16:04espinas's leaflet a foraging May mean he
- 16:08didn't have much choice but to evolve
- 16:10his own resistance or ways of dealing
- 16:11with it but on the other hand in some
- 16:14cases toxin sequestration is a
- 16:16deliberate evolutionary goal for
- 16:18protection independent of just becoming
- 16:20resistant to the toxic foods you eat and
- 16:23some animals will preferentially search
- 16:25for toxic foods for protection some
- 16:28garter snakes will do so especially when
- 16:30the females are gravid to pass the
- 16:32protection onto their eggs and young so
- 16:34perhaps gravid female espinas also use
- 16:37the breeding season peak of energy to
- 16:39strenuously search for as many toads as
- 16:41possible to get the eggs and young the
- 16:43largest toxin boost and it's not just
- 16:46the spines that are poisonous espinas
- 16:49can spit poison with its fireballs and
- 16:51even its blood is toxic too so clearly
- 16:55this goes beyond just armoring itself an
- 16:58espinas out and out makes itself
- 16:59poisonous to eat even if its opponent
- 17:01does manage to win denying its opponent
- 17:04any calorific reward after what is
- 17:06likely to be a strenuous kill at best
- 17:09maybe just another factor in espanas's
- 17:12defenses to make it even less palatable
- 17:14and one of the most well-armored wyverns
- 17:17outside of toxins espinas is still very
- 17:20heavily armored while it's not
- 17:22completely flightless Espana still
- 17:24rarely flies presumably due to added
- 17:27weight of its thick plate-like armor
- 17:29even if this wasn't very tough and
- 17:31venomous the added Thorns mean near any
- 17:34predator getting to grips with espinas
- 17:36runs the risk of getting itself severely
- 17:38lacerated on its armor and like many
- 17:41aspects of its life this likely stems
- 17:43from its slow sleepy lifestyle espinos
- 17:46sleeps deeply taking considerable
- 17:49physical effort to forcibly wake and can
- 17:52be sluggish even when fully roused if
- 17:55ESPN s wasn't as heavily armored this
- 17:57would put it in some deep trouble who
- 17:59large to fit into any real shelter
- 18:01espinas sleeps out in the open and would
- 18:04be a considerable risk if not so
- 18:06powerful strong as it may be espinas
- 18:09isn't indestructible and roaming elder
- 18:12dragons or nomadic brute wyverns like
- 18:14Devil Joe or glavinous bulls that have
- 18:16been seen in the same areas could well
- 18:18pose a threat and without sufficient
- 18:20protection a soundly sleeping wyvern
- 18:23would be an easy target thick plate and
- 18:26venomous spines do nicely to dissuade
- 18:28sheepish threads and to keep a
- 18:30determined attacker at Bay until
- 18:31Espionage can Rouse itself to fight
- 18:34whilst many other animals probably
- 18:36prefer to let sleeping espinas lie we do
- 18:39see a few exceptions espinas runs off a
- 18:42nagakuga that rudely wakes it by
- 18:44flinging velociraptid but the most
- 18:47notable conflict is with kushala de Ora
- 18:50and it's hard to tell where exactly The
- 18:52Strife here comes from kushala generally
- 18:55isn't regarded as an exceptionally
- 18:57belligerent species and espinas isn't
- 19:00really awake enough of the time to get a
- 19:01reputation for violence without prompt
- 19:04kushala at least partially supplements
- 19:06its diet with all and espinos eats
- 19:09mainly small animals and carrion so
- 19:11there's not much resource overlap to
- 19:13trigger competition too one explanation
- 19:16could be it's from kushala's impact on
- 19:19the environment even without his
- 19:21ambiguous weather Powers kushala is
- 19:24still a wind cannon on wings he can fire
- 19:27powerful gusts and creates vortices
- 19:29around him and whilst this may not
- 19:32destroy the ecosystem despite the
- 19:34hand-wringing of the guild it may cause
- 19:36localized disturbances to some of the
- 19:38wildlife and especially to the small
- 19:40animals espinos likes to prey on
- 19:43cheetahs and lions are now known to have
- 19:45much more dietary overlap than first
- 19:48thought due to male coalitions taking
- 19:50large prey but before this knowledge one
- 19:53suggestion for seemingly uncalled for
- 19:55hostility from behavioral modeling was
- 19:58that more predators of any kind in an
- 20:00ecosystem increases prey vigilance and
- 20:03that killing other Predators reduced
- 20:05prey vigilant of any type this
- 20:07benefiting the top predators with a
- 20:09sufficient means to kill smaller
- 20:11competitors so in a similar vein this
- 20:14may be why espinas takes exception to
- 20:16kushella his wind blasting could
- 20:19increase vigilance or cause espinas's
- 20:21preybase to move off or become harder to
- 20:24catch in other ways causing them to be
- 20:26so comparatively aggressive to kushala
- 20:28and this may well be unique to kuchella
- 20:31De Aura as most other elder dragons
- 20:33don't enter forested environments that
- 20:35often only really camellios who has a
- 20:38much lesser impact on prey Behavior even
- 20:41if he directly competes with espionass
- 20:43himself this habit may make espinas
- 20:46pretty popular with the locals espinas
- 20:48May well eat smaller animals but it also
- 20:51spends a lot of time resting and
- 20:53probably doesn't expend effort trying to
- 20:55catch things too quick for it for a lot
- 20:58of the smaller residents of rainforest
- 21:00areas this likely means that espinas may
- 21:02provide some blanket of cover from
- 21:04potential predators this isn't unheard
- 21:07of and birds especially May nest in the
- 21:10proximity of a potential Predator that
- 21:12may even cost them a few young to keep a
- 21:14much worse Predator at Bay geese herons
- 21:17and wood pigeons are just a few examples
- 21:19of this so-called Predator protection
- 21:21and the unique Guild of rainforest
- 21:24Predators May well facilitate this Yan
- 21:27garuga and astelos probably have a
- 21:29pretty high dietary overlap of
- 21:31invertebrates partially supplemented
- 21:33with smaller animals up to the size of a
- 21:36dominant male raptorial bird wyvern
- 21:38whereas other similar flying wyverns
- 21:40like wraths Canon would likely eat
- 21:42philosopher prey and other smaller-sized
- 21:44ground animals if they came too close
- 21:46they show no fear of espinas so whilst
- 21:50it is a risk as espinastos share a prey
- 21:52base with garuga and estilos II it's
- 21:55better to go with a sleepy low energy
- 21:57Devil with a lower calorific demands you
- 22:00know than the crazy one you don't
- 22:03so for my thoughts on espanas I quite
- 22:06like him frontier's reputation is now
- 22:08pretty mixed but when it first came
- 22:10about many myself included really wanted
- 22:13it for the West espinas looked really
- 22:16cool and it seems so wonderfully well
- 22:18suited for the great Forest as this
- 22:20great rosebush wyven the leech in the
- 22:23Wolves also seemed pretty cool and then
- 22:26as time went by and things progressed
- 22:28Frontier fell off the deep end and began
- 22:30making garbage and suddenly espinas
- 22:32never coming to the West seemed like a
- 22:34small price to pay to avoid them
- 22:37but now he is here it is nice to have
- 22:40him his design and ecology fit well with
- 22:43him needing so much armor for such a
- 22:45sluggish sleepy wyvern whilst I haven't
- 22:47fought him in front here his fight is
- 22:49all right in sunbreak I'm hesitant to
- 22:52call it amazing there's espinas Feels
- 22:55Like A Greatest Hits rendition of other
- 22:57flying woven moves he's got the general
- 22:59moves like tail sweeps and hip checks
- 23:02wrath fireballs and Stomps and Bloss
- 23:05charges and Horn swings but not much
- 23:07unique to him there are unique spins on
- 23:10set moves like the multi-element
- 23:12fireballs and the fact he can
- 23:14multi-charge even more than tiger X but
- 23:16I'd have really liked him to get more
- 23:18unique moves of his own he's not a bad
- 23:20fight by any stretch but I wouldn't call
- 23:22it exceptional either I can also see why
- 23:25they removed his passive phase 2.
- 23:27sunbreak isn't Frontier 14 years ago the
- 23:31monsters even in master rank go down
- 23:33fairly easily and the passive phase
- 23:35would make espinas a five-minute fight
- 23:37even if you one speed running hit I do
- 23:39like his Lauren Behavior too it's really
- 23:42nice to have a roughly Elder strength
- 23:43monster who isn't a raging death mad
- 23:46ecosystem blower Opera and instead just
- 23:49wants to chill and if anything is the
- 23:51guardian to the areas it inhabits I also
- 23:54liked his rivalry with kushala it's a
- 23:56nice thought that the base Elders can
- 23:58get a non-elder monster that serves as
- 24:00their foil and slash or rival and then
- 24:02Brown espinas sort of ruins that with
- 24:04its god-awful intro cutscene
- 24:06incinerating the king of fire I don't
- 24:09think there's anything to stop him
- 24:10coming back in an A-Team game too so I'm
- 24:13Keen to see what they do with him
- 24:14environmentally there overall espinas
- 24:17still comes in as a pretty solid entry
- 24:19to the series I am a little concerned he
- 24:21could be a final male in the coffin of
- 24:23monobloss's chance to come back so we'll
- 24:25have to see how 6 and 6 you go I think
- 24:28for anyone not back in those games their
- 24:31time in the franchise is up speaking of
- 24:33time being up let's talk about Frontier
- 24:36and for anyone expecting a tirade of
- 24:39negativity you're only half right
- 24:40Frontier did run for 12 years so it
- 24:44shouldn't be too big a surprise it
- 24:45managed to get at least a few things
- 24:47right in that time and I definitely
- 24:49don't hate all the monsters in it the
- 24:51leech Leviathan is okay the hummingbird
- 24:53was all right I thought the Wolves were
- 24:55okay but apparently they're a terrible
- 24:56fight so whatever but there should of
- 24:59course be limits in place when espanas
- 25:01was announced one thing you saw being
- 25:03said a lot was the floodgates are open
- 25:06and I don't know if you've ever seen a
- 25:08flood but there's a reason the water is
- 25:09often Brown and it's not just mud
- 25:12floodgates exist for a reason and it's
- 25:14to keep the feces in bilharzia out
- 25:16plenty of Frontiers monsters are just
- 25:19terrible Concepts full stop but also in
- 25:22the context of the mainline series too
- 25:24whilst the series was never quite as
- 25:26good at Mainline at creating quality
- 25:28Monsters the earlier ones at least had
- 25:31some ecology in mind but as things
- 25:33progressed it became more and more about
- 25:35excessive Arena fights and particle
- 25:37effects with no restraints and as such
- 25:39most of the later editions belong in
- 25:41Digimon or Final Fantasy luckily it does
- 25:45seem fujioka and tsujimoto are going to
- 25:47have quality control in future on who
- 25:49gets in and if I also find it quite
- 25:51amusing how the people who say world had
- 25:54too many flying wyverns are the exact
- 25:56same people demanding bogladon his edgy
- 25:58subspecies and his mid as Hell 2010
- 26:01moveset come to Mainline there was
- 26:03Frontier now ported this seems all but a
- 26:06non-issue as said the worst Frontier
- 26:08monsters don't really have much going
- 26:10for them ecologically and Mainline
- 26:12series isn't in a struggle to create its
- 26:14own end game Boss monsters who
- 26:16themselves only often exist in particle
- 26:18effect filled arena battles anyway so
- 26:21the niche they would fill is never
- 26:23really going to be open for them to slot
- 26:25in and with Frontier now available to
- 26:27play for all there doesn't seem to be
- 26:29much to be gained from them coming to
- 26:30Mainline this is not to say that
- 26:32everything was terrible and even if many
- 26:35monsters were crap there was still
- 26:36admirable ideas or mechanics embedded
- 26:39within them espinas's cousin can absorb
- 26:41ailments used against it to then use
- 26:43against the hunter which is pretty
- 26:45creative that monkey that carries its
- 26:48baby on its back is a pretty good use of
- 26:49bringing baby monsters into the game and
- 26:52a completely new spin on a minion
- 26:54mechanic similarly a few hardcore
- 26:56monsters had moves that could be used to
- 26:58spice up some of the worst old gen
- 27:00fights if you took away all the
- 27:02disgusting and idiotic particle effects
- 27:04indeed as with Mainline I believe
- 27:07probably any monster can have at least
- 27:09one thing it can offer even if I may
- 27:11hate it as a complete package what are
- 27:13bullfango if not useful sources of raw
- 27:16materials at the games start even if I'm
- 27:18not a fan of his design zunoga is still
- 27:21a pretty good fight with a great theme
- 27:23Magnum Arlo
- 27:26so it's wrong to say Frontier has
- 27:28nothing to offer this series as a whole
- 27:30and some of it is good without
- 27:31modification the notion of implementing
- 27:34meaningful and unpredictable weather in
- 27:36maps is a great touch especially when
- 27:39it's not just cheeseable for the hunter
- 27:40let the hunters have their traps they
- 27:43can use like the boulders and such and
- 27:45have freak weather occurrences affect
- 27:47both parties but be biased in favor of
- 27:50the monsters that evolved for that
- 27:52environment if a thunderstorm Rolls by
- 27:55in the swamp things like kezu gyps Ross
- 27:57and nercilla if she's wearing gyps
- 27:59Ross's hide would be relatively immune
- 28:01to the lightning strikes a sandstorm
- 28:03would blind and graze the hunter but
- 28:05mean nothing to Diablos or sephardrome
- 28:07detecting them via vibrations and so on
- 28:10and so forth with other environments if
- 28:12the hunter fails to prepare they'd pay
- 28:14for it daily and in some cases there's
- 28:17nothing you can do but just take your
- 28:18lumps it'd be nice to be reminded that
- 28:20Hunters aren't walking death Gods under
- 28:23the monsters that came to be in such
- 28:25ecosystems should have to leg up in
- 28:27their home rather than be bumbling
- 28:29idiots struggling to keep up with the
- 28:31levitating deity who can reach areas
- 28:33they can only dream of so whilst
- 28:35Frontier definitely fell off the wagon
- 28:37towards the end there's plenty to allow
- 28:39its Legacy to live on and I have said
- 28:41before that a solution could be for B
- 28:43Team games to be Frontier Cannon for the
- 28:46fast anime experience and have A-Team
- 28:49games to be Mainline Canon for the
- 28:51slower more original and restrained
- 28:53experience I think a good deal of the
- 28:55disquiet between fans of the respective
- 28:57teams come from the fact that it's never
- 28:59certain what the next game is going to
- 29:00resemble as one franchise is now more
- 29:03than ever trying to juggle two different
- 29:05styles having Frontier and Mainline
- 29:08would make things much more cut and dry
- 29:09at least as far as I can see
- 29:12thanks for watching and thanks to AI
- 29:15Jose for their great generosity as top
- 29:17Patron as well as K sandom ahringar
- 29:20steiny phenomenon evely howlet arches or
- 29:23queen and bazugazu bakuhatsu bakumatsu
- 29:26for their continuing and appreciated
- 29:28support to go through a few things from
- 29:30last week here in a mention of glue cut
- 29:32coup as to be honest I think it's about
- 29:34as simple as a different color morph and
- 29:36that's about it and garuga being a
- 29:38wrathian kutku hybrid was never a true
- 29:40theory but a community joke which I
- 29:43hoped I wouldn't have to stress some
- 29:45were also correct to point out that
- 29:47Nightshade palumu is a new world
- 29:48insectivore although like baroff it's a
- 29:51myomecophage and is so presumably
- 29:53dependent on Anson termites so it still
- 29:56fits with the point I was making
- 29:57although I do admit I just completely
- 29:59forgot about him the flying wife and
- 30:02family tree and espinas skull were
- 30:04created by creature design artist I am
- 30:06the Kaiju King for more trees more
