Full transcript
- 0:07all right guys welcome back to Nate the
- 0:09hoof guy on today's video we are looking
- 0:11at a cow who's heavily favoring her left
- 0:14front foot
- 0:16if we take a look at that hoof as she's
- 0:18standing we can see we've got a little
- 0:20bit of curvature on that inside claw
- 0:22that medial claw and the heel on that
- 0:24lateral is deeper so we've got some
- 0:25imbalance there this area right here is
- 0:28likely where this discomfort is coming
- 0:30from so that's the area we're going to
- 0:31address but first let's get this trim
- 0:33underway as I mentioned that lateral
- 0:36Claw is higher in the heel so we're
- 0:38going to bring that down and it's the
- 0:39inside part of this medial claw that's
- 0:42higher so we're going to take that down
- 0:44when we trim it that's going to bounce
- 0:45this foot back out again
- 1:13now that I've got that trimmed up this
- 1:15problem area becomes pretty obvious now
- 1:17your eyes might be drawn to this lateral
- 1:19claw in the area that I'm trimming right
- 1:20now how do I know that that's not
- 1:22problematic that's all that spot right
- 1:25there is almost never a problem all it
- 1:27is is just a spot where that axial wall
- 1:29meets the sole there kind of opens up
- 1:31and traps debris so that's why we clean
- 1:33that out this area right here this is
- 1:35where we're going to find the issue
- 1:40I'm using my grinder right here to try
- 1:42to thin this area down a little bit I
- 1:43know where the problem is going to be so
- 1:45I'm going to thin that area down it
- 1:46makes my knife work that much easier you
- 1:49can see I'm taking a big area here and
- 1:51you might wonder why are you cutting out
- 1:52such a big area when you don't know
- 1:54necessarily what's going on but I kind
- 1:56of do I know there's going to be a big
- 1:57area of Separation under here I can tell
- 2:00that there's pressure in this claw right
- 2:01now and you're going to see that here
- 2:03very soon
- 2:13a lot of the discomfort associated with
- 2:15these problems comes from that built up
- 2:17pressure that you saw right there now
- 2:19that we've got that relieved she's going
- 2:20to feel better almost instantly
- 2:28but of course our work is not done here
- 2:30we need to free this area of Louisville
- 2:32foreign
- 2:38here's where the design of our hoof
- 2:40knives come in handy we can use that
- 2:42hook to carefully lift that sole away as
- 2:44we make this cut
- 2:51a couple interesting things to take note
- 2:52of here you can see how tight this area
- 2:55of separation is held to the aquarium
- 2:57hasn't lifted away much yet which makes
- 2:59it a little more difficult to remove but
- 3:01we work through it another thing is to
- 3:03take note of is how deep this sole is I
- 3:05get a lot of questions about how deep is
- 3:07that Soul how thick is the sole on a
- 3:09cow's foot well you can get a good view
- 3:10of it with this particular angle you can
- 3:12see we've got almost close to three
- 3:14quarters of an inch of soil left on here
- 3:15which I'm going to bring down a little
- 3:17bit because we're going to be putting a
- 3:18block on that other claw to take the
- 3:20pressure off of this one
- 3:24Next Step here is I use this abrasive
- 3:27disc just to rough that sole up a little
- 3:28bit helps with my glue adhesion
- 4:00another question I get all the time is
- 4:02is how much chlorhexidine do you go
- 4:05through in a month because yes I do use
- 4:07a lot when I clean these areas up
- 4:08however I don't really treat that many
- 4:11problems so it's not going to be that
- 4:13much I actually go through about a
- 4:15gallon a month in total
- 4:27now that we've got this area cleared of
- 4:28loose horn it's time for one final clean
- 4:31down and then we're going to apply a
- 4:33salicylic acid wrap to help take care of
- 4:35the rest
- 4:40the salicylic acid is going to serve
- 4:42three functions here number one it's
- 4:44going to help clear up any more bacteria
- 4:45that might possibly be there number two
- 4:47it's going to help exfoliate that area
- 4:49and number three May provide some pain
- 4:52relief to this area as well
- 5:10now that we've got this wrapped up we'll
- 5:12just clean up this excess glue with our
- 5:13grinder we'll put this foot down and see
- 5:15how she likes sanding on it now
- 5:28now some cows they like to have their
- 5:30heads scratched this one does not in
- 5:34fact she's saying you're done
- 5:37you're done and she is correct we are
- 5:40done as always thanks for watching and
- 5:43we will see you all
- 5:44on the next one
