Flexnodes - A Global Network of Data Accelerators — Transcript
Full transcript
- 0:04My name is Muriel Medart, co-founder and
- 0:07CEO of Optimum. [music]
- 0:09Today I want to share our vision for
- 0:11building the fastest decentralized
- 0:13internet protocol for web 3, a network
- 0:16that [music] makes blockchains truly
- 0:18performant at scale and how you can be
- 0:21part of it with Flex Nodes.
- 0:26Blockchains today face a bottleneck that
- 0:29limits their ability to scale for global
- 0:31adoption. Regardless of the blockchain,
- 0:34the way the [music] data representing
- 0:36every transaction and block is
- 0:38communicating in the networking layer
- 0:40[music] today is too slow. It's highly
- 0:43redundant, inefficient and cannot
- 0:46[music] scale. We see this bottleneck in
- 0:49action whenever there is a significant
- 0:51increase in network usage, [music]
- 0:53congestion, high gas fees, failed
- 0:56transactions. Optimum fixes this.
- 0:58[music]
- 0:59Our protocol encodes data at the
- 1:02networking layer in a highly efficient,
- 1:05scalable manner. We deploy this protocol
- 1:08on a global network of nodes that can
- 1:10connect [music] permissionlessly to any
- 1:13blockchain. Those chains use Optimum
- 1:16[music] to speed up their transactions.
- 1:22This is where Flex Nodes and you [music]
- 1:25come in. A Flex Node is simply an
- 1:27internet connected device running
- 1:29[music] Optimum Software. That's it. It
- 1:32could be a laptop in Boston, a [music]
- 1:35smartphone in Lagos, an enterprisegrade
- 1:37server in Singapore. Any device with
- 1:40[music] an internet connection can
- 1:41become a flex node and contribute to the
- 1:44optimum [music] network. Each flex node
- 1:47in the network is powered by RLNC, the
- 1:50random linear network coding technology
- 1:53at the core of Optimum. This is what
- 1:56allows data to move through our
- 1:58decentralized network incredibly fast,
- 2:01[music] efficiently, and resiliently.
- 2:07Blockchains [music] need to propagate
- 2:09data faster, reduce network congestion,
- 2:12and keep transaction fees low for their
- 2:14users. To achieve this, they tap into
- 2:18Optimum's [music] network of flex nodes.
- 2:23So, who can run a Flex Node? The answer
- 2:26is anyone. [music]
- 2:27We've designed Flex Nodes with
- 2:29accessibility as a core principle. You
- 2:32don't need specialized mining equipment.
- 2:34You don't need to invest tens of
- 2:36thousands of dollars in hardware. You
- 2:38don't need a computer science degree. If
- 2:41you have a device and an internet
- 2:43connection, you can run a flex node. Of
- 2:46course, the more powerful your device,
- 2:47the more bandwidth you can contribute,
- 2:49the greater your impact on the network
- 2:51will be and the greater your rewards.
- 2:53But participation isn't gated by capital
- 2:56[music] requirements. A student with a
- 2:58laptop can contribute. A business with
- 3:00idle service can contribute at a larger
- 3:02scale. Both are valuable to the network.
- 3:06Today, flex nodes run MP2P, our first
- 3:09protocol that replaces outdated data
- 3:12propagation networks with RLNCbased
- 3:15propagation. In the future, Flex Nodes
- 3:18will also support other Optimum products
- 3:20and services like DRAM. You'll be able
- 3:24to choose which services your Flex Node
- 3:26provides based on your hardware
- 3:28capabilities and preferences. The
- 3:31strength of your internet connection and
- 3:34the number of services you enable will
- 3:36determine how much you contribute to the
- 3:38network and how much you're compensated
- 3:41for that contribution. This democratized
- 3:45approach isn't just philosophically
- 3:47important. It's technically essential.
- 3:50The power of RLNC increases with network
- 3:53size and diversity. Every flex node,
- 3:56regardless of its capacity, adds another
- 3:59pathway for data to flow, another source
- 4:02of resilience, another [music]
- 4:03contribution to the network's overall
- 4:05performance. We're building a faster,
- 4:08more scalable web 3. And we're doing it
- 4:11in a way that truly embodies
- 4:13decentralization
- 4:14where anyone, anywhere can participate
- 4:17and be rewarded for strengthening the
- 4:19infrastructure that will power the next
- 4:22generation of blockchain applications.
- 4:25If you're interested in running a Flex
- 4:26Note, we'll be sharing more details
- 4:29about our launch timeline [music] and
- 4:31how to get involved. Join our community,
- 4:34follow our updates, and scale any chain.
