  1. 0:01hey welcome
  2. 0:03back so we were talking
  3. 0:07[Music]
  4. 0:08about
  5. 0:10LBJ and the
  6. 0:12infamous Andrew Johnson
  7. 0:17dollars Andrew Johnson
  8. 0:20dollars pretty crazy there there's the
  9. 0:22Andrew Johnson dollars see nothing he's
  10. 0:25got hair I don't anyway so um LBJ was
  11. 0:30able to go to
  12. 0:32war go goes to war didn't raise taxes
  13. 0:36didn't increase debt increased social
  14. 0:40spending and he did it by printing money
  15. 0:42which should have caused inflation
  16. 0:44shouldn't it should so the value of
  17. 0:46money should have gone down it did not
  18. 0:49and people say how is that possible
  19. 0:52because we've been talking about the
  20. 0:53supply curve for money the supply of
  21. 0:57money right but remember there's also a
  22. 1:01demand curve for money oh so prices
  23. 1:05change depend where the pr where the
  24. 1:07supply curve and the demand curve mean
  25. 1:10so the supply curve for money changed
  26. 1:13but also the demand curve for money
  27. 1:15changed and that's called fiscal
  28. 1:19policy fiscal policy is the demand curve
  29. 1:23for money have you ever heard the phrase
  30. 1:24it takes money to make
  31. 1:26money it does it takes money to make
  32. 1:28money right right so you need money for
  33. 1:32the jobs so think about all those jobs
  34. 1:35that were created when they were going
  35. 1:37to the moon and they're going to Vietnam
  36. 1:40War and they're building community
  37. 1:43colleges all across the United States
  38. 1:46right that creates all sorts of jobs
  39. 1:48doesn't it so you have these people with
  40. 1:51jobs you have to pay them don't you so
  41. 1:53you need money to pay them so that
  42. 1:56causes the demand curve for money the
  43. 1:58demand for money to go up when you have
  44. 2:00all these jobs don't you wow wow wow wow
  45. 2:05so since there was so much more money
  46. 2:09there's a lot of money out there but
  47. 2:10there's a lot more demand for the money
  48. 2:13they actually balanced
  49. 2:15out yeah yeah it nothing really happened
  50. 2:18right it should by printing all that
  51. 2:20money it should have gone the economy
  52. 2:21should have just collapsed it should
  53. 2:22have been just a terrible mess but all
  54. 2:24those jobs are created and balanced
  55. 2:28out hey that's pretty smart isn't
  56. 2:31it now let's talk about the grand
  57. 2:35Dam think of how many damn jobs were
  58. 2:38created when they built the grand
  59. 2:40Dam so well they had a lot of damn jobs
  60. 2:43but those are no no no think about the
  61. 2:45grand Dam right first you have
  62. 2:46the damn workers don't you right so you
  63. 2:49got to pay the damn workers what what
  64. 2:51happens when the damn workers get sick
  65. 2:53you got to get a doctor to take care of
  66. 2:55the damn worker right the damn workers
  67. 2:57got to eat the damn workers have to have
  68. 3:00a place to sleep at night think of all
  69. 3:03the damn jobs were created when they
  70. 3:04built the grand
  71. 3:06Dam a lot of damn jobs yeah same thing
  72. 3:11happened during the war think about all
  73. 3:13the jobs that created during the war
  74. 3:16same thing so it printed about it
  75. 3:17balanced it out well well well but it
  76. 3:22gets different so then LBJ everybody
  77. 3:25said LBJ you made a big mess with
  78. 3:28Vietnam and he knew he not wasn't going
  79. 3:30to get reelected so then he uh didn't
  80. 3:33run for re-election and we hired a new
  81. 3:35guy his name was Richard
  82. 3:37Nixon Richard Nixon became president of
  83. 3:40the United States after LBJ and he was a
  84. 3:43crook had caught him doing all sorts of
  85. 3:46terrible terrible things very very
  86. 3:48dishonest
  87. 3:49person and he said elect me to president
  88. 3:53I'll get his out of
  89. 3:55Vietnam he didn't because if he got us
  90. 3:58out of Vietnam all those jobs associated
  91. 4:01with the Vietnam War would have gone
  92. 4:06away um he says I'll get us out don't
  93. 4:09worry I'll get us out he didn't so he's
  94. 4:11in for four years he didn't get us out
  95. 4:14stats quot right then he goes elect me
  96. 4:17for another four years and I'll get us
  97. 4:19out this time right so they elected him
  98. 4:22for another four years but that we
  99. 4:24caught him doing some really bad stuff
  100. 4:27and he was getting ready to be impeached
  101. 4:30yeah impeached does anybody know the
  102. 4:34name of the first president to ever be
  103. 4:39impeached the name the very first
  104. 4:41president to ever be impeached I'll give
  105. 4:43you a
  106. 4:45hint Andrew Johnson right so I was the
  107. 4:48Andrew Johnson was the first president
  108. 4:50to ever be impeached that's how bad he
  109. 4:52was he won by I think like by one vote
  110. 4:55right but he did not get he didn't get
  111. 4:56kicked out impeached means you go to
  112. 4:58trial right
  113. 5:00and so so now we've had three presidents
  114. 5:04who have been impeached Andrew Johnson's
  115. 5:06a first though okay
  116. 5:09so he they he was getting ready to be
  117. 5:12impeach and he was gonna lose and he
  118. 5:14knew he was GNA lose
  119. 5:16bad because he recorded all the evil
  120. 5:19stuff that he had done we had they some
  121. 5:22somehow we found copies of the tapes
  122. 5:24where he talk yeah you can Google them
  123. 5:26and you can listen to him called the
  124. 5:28Watergate tapes you hear him and they're
  125. 5:31not that interesting he's just was a
  126. 5:33mean old man so then he steps down and
  127. 5:37his vice president comes up and he
  128. 5:39becomes president name was Gerald Ford
  129. 5:42now Gerald
  130. 5:43Ford um was considered one of the most
  131. 5:45honest presidents we've had too he was
  132. 5:47very very honest and he said hey I
  133. 5:52promise to get us out of the Vietnam War
  134. 5:55and we will be out when I get out of
  135. 5:59office
  136. 6:01or at the end of my first term you know
  137. 6:03so two more years so they said so he
  138. 6:06actually kept his word he did he pulled
  139. 6:09us out of Vietnam right just as he's
  140. 6:11leaving office he lost to the other to
  141. 6:14the next guy and just as he's leaving
  142. 6:16office he pulls
  143. 6:17out and then we get this guy Jimmy
  144. 6:22Carter as soon as Jimmy Carter becomes
  145. 6:25president our inflation goes up to about
  146. 6:3020% 20 20% inflation right right and
  147. 6:35remember the Space Program had been
  148. 6:37canell by the time he came around right
  149. 6:40so we stopped going to the Moon uh the
  150. 6:43Vietnam War was completely gone so now
  151. 6:45you got all this money flooding the
  152. 6:49market and the jobs went away and you
  153. 6:52get to 20% inflation and everybody says
  154. 6:55Jimmy Carter you're a terrible president
  155. 6:58look how much inflation have under you
  156. 7:01well was it really Jimmy Carter's fault
  157. 7:04no no it wasn't right whose fault really
  158. 7:08was it it was
  159. 7:10LBJ right now I'm not being political
  160. 7:13because Jimmy Carter and LBJ are the
  161. 7:15same political we're in the same
  162. 7:16political party right so it's not like
  163. 7:19it's Democrats versus Republicans or
  164. 7:21anything like that but everybody blames
  165. 7:23poor Jimmy and it really wasn't his
  166. 7:26fault right but sometimes you get credit
  167. 7:28for other people stuff sometimes you get
  168. 7:30blamed for other people's stuff they got
  169. 7:34blamed
  170. 7:36so a lot of you guys have been to
  171. 7:38Disneyland haven't you Disneyland my
  172. 7:41daughter wants to go to Disneyland so
  173. 7:43bad she's just like screaming Disneyland
  174. 7:45Disney she's saving money so when she
  175. 7:47goes to Disneyland she'll have money
  176. 7:48she's six right she's I think she's got
  177. 7:51like 50 bucks already saved right just
  178. 7:53going
  179. 7:54crazy so Disneyland has a castle you've
  180. 7:58all seen that cast cast the Disneyland
  181. 8:00castle it actually exists in real
  182. 8:04life the Disneyland castle does actually
  183. 8:07exist and not Disneyland in
  184. 8:11Germany so here's the Disneyland castle
  185. 8:14it's could Mish Einstein I can never
  186. 8:16pronounce it the right way nanstein name
  187. 8:19I don't know anyway nanstein is the name
  188. 8:21of this Castle I've been there been
  189. 8:23there a couple times I've run all the
  190. 8:25way through this castle and had a lot of
  191. 8:26fun it really
  192. 8:28exists now the guy who came up with this
  193. 8:31castle by the way it's the only castle
  194. 8:32in the world that really looks like it
  195. 8:34does but it's the standard Castle it's
  196. 8:36the Disneyland castle that we all think
  197. 8:38of right so this Castle was created by
  198. 8:41this guy named Crazy King
  199. 8:43ludig now crazy King Ludi I mean he was
  200. 8:48he was Bonkers weirdo right to give you
  201. 8:52an idea how weird this dude was when he
  202. 8:56built this beautiful castle he designed
  203. 8:59it and had it built it's really really
  204. 9:01cool and beautiful in one of the rooms
  205. 9:04there is up up towards the top he built
  206. 9:07in a Blue
  207. 9:09Cave say a Blue Cave a Blue Cave you
  208. 9:14know with stag ties and stag mites and
  209. 9:17water dripping and all this and he made
  210. 9:19it blue
  211. 9:22now when would a normal person ever
  212. 9:27create a be
  213. 9:29beautiful castle and put a blue cave in
  214. 9:35it I
  215. 9:37mean he was crazy crazy crazy King now
  216. 9:41crazy King ludvig loved himself very
  217. 9:44very
  218. 9:45much he thought he was
  219. 9:48Neato so crazy King ludic decided to
  220. 9:52build more than one Castle see back in
  221. 9:54the day way back then it's like you
  222. 9:56build a castle and you show everybody
  223. 9:58how cool you are kind of like driving a
  224. 10:00Porsche if you're rich you drive a
  225. 10:01Porsche so everybody says oh you're cool
  226. 10:03which I don't know if that really makes
  227. 10:05you cool or not but anyway that's what
  228. 10:07people do they say Drive look look at me
  229. 10:08I'm driving in my porit you must think
  230. 10:10I'm really cool right so back then you
  231. 10:14build a castle to show everybody how
  232. 10:16cool you are okay now Castle think about
  233. 10:19a castle very expensive to build isn't
  234. 10:22it it takes a lot of money right but you
  235. 10:26can do that and crazy King ludig was
  236. 10:28loaded had all this money so he decided
  237. 10:31that he's cooler than most Kings so he
  238. 10:34decided to build more than one Castle so
  239. 10:38here's some pictures of some of his
  240. 10:43castles King ludvig's
  241. 10:46castles right so there's newstein right
  242. 10:49the one that the Disneyland castle this
  243. 10:51is from the back view there's you can go
  244. 10:53up it's on top of a mountain kind of
  245. 10:56it's a long walk but then you get around
  246. 10:59behind it and there's this beautiful
  247. 11:00waterfall and you can just stand right
  248. 11:02there and look take this picture so this
  249. 11:05is what it looks like on a nice sunny
  250. 11:07day I've been there on sunny days and I
  251. 11:09went one day and it rained on me the
  252. 11:10whole time and I was cold and
  253. 11:12miserable uh but it's still gorgeous
  254. 11:14either way right so that's nanstein
  255. 11:17that's pretty
  256. 11:18cool okay then he's got some other
  257. 11:22castles here you'll
  258. 11:23see so newstead this is most famous now
  259. 11:27this one is this is the one that he was
  260. 11:30he grew up
  261. 11:31in and
  262. 11:33it's okay by Castle standards I mean
  263. 11:36it's got some cool stuff to it but it's
  264. 11:38older it's not nothing like newstein but
  265. 11:41anyway this is his other castle and this
  266. 11:42is just at the foot so if you want to
  267. 11:44just go see newstein you can see this
  268. 11:47also but nobody really sees it because
  269. 11:49you want to see the Disneyland castle
  270. 11:51you can go see this one if you want to
  271. 11:53but it's not that interesting right then
  272. 11:56you've got linderhof linderhof is
  273. 11:59beautiful it's a palace not a castle I
  274. 12:02know and this picture does not do it
  275. 12:04justce you see wow it's not that big it
  276. 12:06actually is Big there this big old area
  277. 12:09on there uh and it's got Gardens and
  278. 12:11stuff all around it it's really really
  279. 12:14cool
  280. 12:15right and then you've got
  281. 12:19nienberg I doubt if that's how it's
  282. 12:21pronounced but ni bird um uh yeah you
  283. 12:27I've been there too yeah yeah yeah and
  284. 12:29there's another here's another house
  285. 12:31he's
  286. 12:32got and he's got this palace here by the
  287. 12:34way this Palace isn't finished right he
  288. 12:37says I'm gonna beat Versailles and the
  289. 12:40French we're gonna show the French how
  290. 12:41to make a castle he makes this beautiful
  291. 12:43cat it's not finished yet right you walk
  292. 12:45in it and there's areas that just aren't
  293. 12:48finished actually there's areas in
  294. 12:50newstein that aren't finished either and
  295. 12:52you're going like that's weird not
  296. 12:55really so
  297. 12:57weird so that's all the king's
  298. 13:01castles yeah now think about
  299. 13:05this he starts building castles building
  300. 13:08castles building castles he used up all
  301. 13:10their money on pretty
  302. 13:13castles now if you were German and your
  303. 13:17king spent you were a fairly wealthy
  304. 13:20country and your king spent all his
  305. 13:23money all of your money on pretty
  306. 13:26castles would you be happy with your
  307. 13:28king
  308. 13:30and they weren't happy with him right
  309. 13:33and you know how they rewarded him for
  310. 13:36um spending all their
  311. 13:39money they killed him right he di well
  312. 13:44technically it was an
  313. 13:46accident he accidentally
  314. 13:49drowned in two feet of water and he was
  315. 13:53an excellent
  316. 13:54swimmer yeah they held him down
  317. 13:57underwater till he stopped wiggling
  318. 14:00right that's how they killed him right
  319. 14:02so then they said we're not going to
  320. 14:04finish building these stupid castles
  321. 14:07let's go so they stopped they stopped
  322. 14:09all the production right now let's think
  323. 14:12about this so now all the before you had
  324. 14:14all these people working on castles all
  325. 14:16over the country and now their jobs are
  326. 14:18just
  327. 14:19gone right so now what happens all those
  328. 14:22jobs went away all the supporting jobs
  329. 14:24went away all those other jobs and the
  330. 14:25economy starts to crash it starts to go
  331. 14:28down down down down down then they had
  332. 14:30something called World War
  333. 14:33I World War I they got in a in a fight
  334. 14:37with a bunch of other
  335. 14:39countries it was a really basically the
  336. 14:43war was caused by somebody took a wrong
  337. 14:44turn in a
  338. 14:46car who would think that taking a wrong
  339. 14:48turn in a car can cause a World War but
  340. 14:51it didn't so now Germany and Hungary and
  341. 14:54all these countries everybody's fighting
  342. 14:56everybody else but think of all the jobs
  343. 14:58are created during World
  344. 15:01War a lot of jobs stimulated their
  345. 15:04economy so as they have the war going
  346. 15:06stimulate their economy goes up and up
  347. 15:08and up right uh and then they lost World
  348. 15:12War I okay after they lost World War I
  349. 15:16the other countries like France and
  350. 15:18England that fought Germany said hey we
  351. 15:21had to spend a lot of money on World War
  352. 15:23I you need to pay us back what do you
  353. 15:27mean pay us back all the money we spent
  354. 15:29you need to pay us back so what we're
  355. 15:31going to do is anytime you make any
  356. 15:34money in Germany we're going to take it
  357. 15:36to pay off your debt right that you owe
  358. 15:38us for causing this war when somebody
  359. 15:42took a wrong turn right so now anybody
  360. 15:47creates creates a job anybody has a job
  361. 15:49what happens to those jobs they go away
  362. 15:52because the French and the British are
  363. 15:54just stealing them right so their
  364. 15:55economy goes down down down down it was
  365. 15:58a bad place to be you did not want to be
  366. 16:01in Germany at this time right the
  367. 16:03inflation was inflation rates were up
  368. 16:05there with Zimbabwe right just really
  369. 16:08really terrible place to go so the
  370. 16:10econom is going down down down down and
  371. 16:11people are starving terrible thing and
  372. 16:14then comes the worst man in the history
  373. 16:17of the
  374. 16:18planet Adolf
  375. 16:20Hitler and Adolf Hitler
  376. 16:23said if you give me power I will make
  377. 16:28Germany great
  378. 16:32again he said that you don't believe me
  379. 16:35Google it he said he will make Germany
  380. 16:38great
  381. 16:40again I know yeah exactly right right
  382. 16:44it's called the Third Reich he says we
  383. 16:45were great before we'll be great
  384. 16:48again that's what now Adolf Hitler evil
  385. 16:53terrible man but he did one thing he did
  386. 16:57fix the German economy he did so many
  387. 17:00terrible things but he did one thing and
  388. 17:01how do you fix the economy go to war
  389. 17:03with everybody so he goes to war with
  390. 17:06everybody he's doing ter he's killing
  391. 17:07thousands of people right I've been to
  392. 17:09concentration camps in Europe they're
  393. 17:12not happy places I've taken students to
  394. 17:15uh concentration camps uh in in uh
  395. 17:19Poland and Germany and everybody cries
  396. 17:22you cannot go to one of those places and
  397. 17:24not cry it's part of what what you have
  398. 17:26to do when you go to I mean so he did
  399. 17:28all these terrible
  400. 17:29but he did fix their economy okay then
  401. 17:34they lost World War II and now they're
  402. 17:37still a fairly wealthy country yeah
  403. 17:40they're one of the wealthier they're in
  404. 17:41the top 10 wealthy countries of the
  405. 17:42world right but they're not rock stars
  406. 17:46right so then you look at England
  407. 17:49England they used to say the Sun never
  408. 17:50sets on the British Empire which means
  409. 17:53they had land all around was always
  410. 17:55someplace with the Sun up around the
  411. 17:57world wow now England went into World
  412. 18:00War I fairly wealthy but it cost them a
  413. 18:04lot of money right then they won World
  414. 18:07War
  415. 18:08I and so then they started taking money
  416. 18:10from the Germans but their economy still
  417. 18:12started going down a little bit right
  418. 18:14and then World War II happened their
  419. 18:16economy goes up and then after World War
  420. 18:19II it went back down again went down
  421. 18:23down down and it's pretty close with
  422. 18:25Germany United States we look like that
  423. 18:30we were okay wealthy country before
  424. 18:32World War I we got in World War
  425. 18:34I stimulate our economy a little bit
  426. 18:38after World War I we had something
  427. 18:39called the Great
  428. 18:41Depression was bad you did not want to
  429. 18:43be in the United States because all
  430. 18:45those jobs had gone away we had the dust
  431. 18:48bow it was just a big terrible
  432. 18:50mess and our economy start to go down
  433. 18:53down down down down not like the Germans
  434. 18:56but still this was a bad place to be
  435. 18:59right called the Great
  436. 19:00Depression then we had this President
  437. 19:04his name was
  438. 19:05FDR Franklin Delona Roosevelt and he
  439. 19:08says I think we can fix it so he says
  440. 19:12we're going to start to build
  441. 19:14roads and
  442. 19:16schools and
  443. 19:19hospitals and
  444. 19:21universities and those will create jobs
  445. 19:25and when we create those jobs that will
  446. 19:27stimulate our economy
  447. 19:30sounds like a good idea actually it was
  448. 19:32pretty good idea so our economy was
  449. 19:34going down down down he's doing all this
  450. 19:35stuff and slowly starts to turn and then
  451. 19:39all of a sudden we had World War II now
  452. 19:43World War II was pretty bad right so now
  453. 19:47the whole United States focused on the
  454. 19:50War I mean that's it it was you couldn't
  455. 19:52look anywhere without hearing about the
  456. 19:54war right everybody's so focused and we
  457. 19:56spend all these money on tanks and
  458. 19:59airplanes and boats and ships and
  459. 20:02Torpedoes and building a big bad bomb we
  460. 20:06spent so much money on to stimulated our
  461. 20:08economy and our economy goes
  462. 20:11up hey that's pretty cool right so it
  463. 20:14went up up up up fixed our economy after
  464. 20:17World War II our economy went down a
  465. 20:19little bit and then just goes straight
  466. 20:21up right we went from being a pretty
  467. 20:26wealthy country to being the Jeff Jus or
  468. 20:30Bill Gates of the world so well I'm not
  469. 20:33that rich if you're in the United States
  470. 20:35you're rich if you were listening to my
  471. 20:38if you see in my face right now my in my
  472. 20:40lack of hair right now you are rich so
  473. 20:43no you don't know me do you have indoor
  474. 20:45plumbing do you have clean water did you
  475. 20:47get enough
  476. 20:49food I've been to lots of places where
  477. 20:51the answer to all three of those
  478. 20:53questions is
  479. 20:55no yeah so we are rich
  480. 20:59now what happened though it's kind of
  481. 21:00scra so we went from being pretty okay
  482. 21:03wealthy to being it just like in a
  483. 21:07really quick period of time so we had
  484. 21:10something happen at that
  485. 21:12time something happened to something
  486. 21:14happened to us okay so we decided that
  487. 21:17we were going we decided to do something
  488. 21:20we decided to go to the
  489. 21:22moon the space program space Pro going
  490. 21:26to the moon going to the Moon going to
  491. 21:29the Moon made us silly stinking Rich no
  492. 21:33we didn't make much money going to the
  493. 21:36Moon we made it huge did you know um a
  494. 21:39normal investment in the stock market is
  495. 21:4115% return on your investment minus 3%
  496. 21:44for inflation about right which gets you
  497. 21:47a 12% 12% is a it's a good rate although
  498. 21:51some investors will give you lower rates
  499. 21:52we'll talk about when we talk about
  500. 21:54investing see why that's right and why
  501. 21:56that's wrong well anyway just figure
  502. 21:5912% okay we put money in on the space
  503. 22:03program we put more money on the space
  504. 22:06program that has ever been spent on any
  505. 22:11single nonmilitary related project so
  506. 22:16not going to war we put in more money on
  507. 22:18the Space Program than anybody on any
  508. 22:20single project has ever put in way more
  509. 22:23than the grand
  510. 22:24D we put in huge amounts of money on it
  511. 22:28I mean
  512. 22:29and so normal investment the stock
  513. 22:31market's 15% minus 3% inflation so you
  514. 22:34get 12% we got over
  515. 22:3740% return on our
  516. 22:40investment say Andy we got a couple moon
  517. 22:43rocks who cares about a couple moon
  518. 22:46rocks because you don't care about the
  519. 22:48moon rocks and going to the Moon wasn't
  520. 22:50it it was all the research and
  521. 22:53development to get to the moon that's
  522. 22:56where we made our money
  523. 22:58oh see go go in the Moon is not an easy
  524. 23:01thing but it's all the spin-offs all the
  525. 23:04R&D that we did associated with it we
  526. 23:06got so much stuff from the space
  527. 23:09program okay so send people up to the
  528. 23:13space program right we're going to sends
  529. 23:14people to into to the boo right in outer
  530. 23:18space now what are people made out of
  531. 23:22what is the number one ingredient of
  532. 23:25people water we're basically water bags
  533. 23:29that's what we are we're lot of water
  534. 23:31right so if you've ever gone outside on
  535. 23:34a cold day and you go and you can see
  536. 23:37your breath can't you right when you're
  537. 23:39a little kid didn't you act like you're
  538. 23:40smoking cigarette
  539. 23:41you yeah yeah yeah okay we all did
  540. 23:45that well I don't know if they're doing
  541. 23:48it so much now they probably are maybe
  542. 23:50they're pretending like they're vaping I
  543. 23:51don't know anyway so now so we're water
  544. 23:54creatures so we're going to put you in a
  545. 23:56bear can right space Space Capsule is
  546. 23:59basically an aluminum
  547. 24:01can right and we're going to put you in
  548. 24:04a a your warm wet creature we're going
  549. 24:07to put you in a beer can with lots of
  550. 24:10electronics now think about it if you
  551. 24:13take a can of Coca-Cola out of the
  552. 24:15refrigerator on a hot muggy
  553. 24:18day what happens to the
  554. 24:20can well it gets warm no no no no no
  555. 24:23before that it sweats doesn't it you get
  556. 24:26condensation
  557. 24:28get all this water running on the sides
  558. 24:30of your can so now we're going to put
  559. 24:32you which you're a warm wet bag of water
  560. 24:37in a beer can with electronics in outer
  561. 24:41space and what's the temperature in
  562. 24:42outer space it's cold right so what's
  563. 24:46going to happen you're going to have
  564. 24:48water and it's going to get in all the
  565. 24:49electronics now what happens when
  566. 24:50Electronics touch
  567. 24:52water throw your laptop in the bathtub
  568. 24:55and see what happens it isn't pretty
  569. 24:59well my laptop is
  570. 25:01waterproof really it's not waterproof
  571. 25:04it's water
  572. 25:05resistant oh yeah so it's not if you've
  573. 25:09ever had one to have your cell phone
  574. 25:11dropped it in the toilet I haven't but I
  575. 25:14can see how that could happen very
  576. 25:16easily
  577. 25:18yeah what yeah so maybe the new ones
  578. 25:21okay maybe you've got the iPhone right
  579. 25:24and maybe it's supposed to be
  580. 25:25waterresistant
  581. 25:26not waterproof anyway so they said we
  582. 25:29need to find a way to dry that
  583. 25:32water how can we disperse the water
  584. 25:34drying it so they came up with water
  585. 25:37drying formula number one it didn't work
  586. 25:40came up with water drying formula number
  587. 25:42two it didn't work 3 four 5 6 7 8 9 10
  588. 25:45then they finally came up with something
  589. 25:47called water drying formula number
  590. 25:5240
  591. 25:54WD40 now when you see a can of WD40
  592. 25:58you say wow look at this space
  593. 26:02technology you don't WD40 is wonderful
  594. 26:05stuff though so so right now if you've
  595. 26:07got a bolt and you need to get that bolt
  596. 26:11off but it's rested you squirt a little
  597. 26:13WD40 in there you wait 20 minutes and it
  598. 26:15comes right off right before you had to
  599. 26:19get a flamethrower basically and cut the
  600. 26:22bolt off and then weld another one on
  601. 26:25there that's a mess isn't it think about
  602. 26:28how much money WD40 has saved us now
  603. 26:31there's a lot of stuff that you have no
  604. 26:34clue that came from the space
  605. 26:36program so let's see here everyday
  606. 26:40things that you didn't know were
  607. 26:41invented by NASA smoke
  608. 26:44detectors think about this if you're up
  609. 26:47in outer space and you catch fire you
  610. 26:50can't just like pull over to the side of
  611. 26:52the road and get out buyers are pretty
  612. 26:55bad out space SP yeah um cordless
  613. 27:00drills no battery drills they got
  614. 27:03together and they built
  615. 27:05drills when you get your little handheld
  616. 27:08drill out you say wow space
  617. 27:10technology I don't but it
  618. 27:13is space blanket you know how many lives
  619. 27:17this thing have saved the space blankets
  620. 27:21are absolutely amazing if like they're
  621. 27:23about the size of a pack of a deck of
  622. 27:25cards but if you're an emergency you
  623. 27:28open it up and it all it reflects all
  624. 27:30your heat back on you and it almost
  625. 27:32feels like it's heating you in fact it
  626. 27:35does feel like it's heating you but it's
  627. 27:36really just you're just not losing the
  628. 27:39heat wow thousands and thousands of
  629. 27:42lives have been saved because the space
  630. 27:45blanket right
  631. 27:48sunglasses sunglasses sunglasses they
  632. 27:51had sunglasses before not the same thing
  633. 27:53all right so when you go into outer
  634. 27:56space you look accidentally look at the
  635. 27:59Sun for just an eighth of a second and
  636. 28:00zap you're never going to see again
  637. 28:03right so they said we need to come up
  638. 28:05with some stuff to block the UV UVA and
  639. 28:08UVB and let's make sunglasses out of
  640. 28:12them for you and now now when you buy
  641. 28:15sunglasses they say UV 100% UV
  642. 28:18protection Space Program well
  643. 28:22tires now when I was a
  644. 28:25kid everybody knew how to change a tire
  645. 28:29and everybody changed tires it was just
  646. 28:31you had Flats everybody had a flat it
  647. 28:34wasn't uncommon to have a flat you knew
  648. 28:36it it was and the cars were actually
  649. 28:37pretty easy to change the tires because
  650. 28:39it kind of had to be because everybody
  651. 28:41was doing it all the
  652. 28:42time
  653. 28:44now well I had a car that didn't even
  654. 28:47have a spare tire on it no spare tire on
  655. 28:51this
  656. 28:52car wow because they last forever my
  657. 28:55grandpa when he bought a Model T
  658. 28:59he drove it home and the first thing he
  659. 29:01did was he put it up on Jacks so there
  660. 29:03wasn't any pressure on the tires because
  661. 29:05those tires didn't last very long now
  662. 29:08heck I haven't had a flat tire in a long
  663. 29:12time oh I don't care about
  664. 29:15that in a long long time I bet you a lot
  665. 29:18of you have never had a flat
  666. 29:20tire pretty crazy so the rubber on the
  667. 29:24tires they they wouldn't make something
  668. 29:25that would for like seals and stuff like
  669. 29:27that so it doesn't doesn't
  670. 29:30uh destroy itself so rubber tires memory
  671. 29:35phone you know those uh Temperpedic
  672. 29:37things yeah I used to have one it hurt
  673. 29:40my shoulders I didn't like the tempered
  674. 29:42but
  675. 29:44anyway okay tennis
  676. 29:47shoes your sneakers have technology in
  677. 29:50it go to a Value Village buy a real old
  678. 29:54pair of tennis shoes and put them on
  679. 29:56then go to the Nike store and put on a
  680. 29:59new pair of tenis shoes you cannot miss
  681. 30:02the
  682. 30:05difference longdistance phone
  683. 30:08calls yeah yeah yeah yeah I remember
  684. 30:11when you basically couldn't make a
  685. 30:15longdistance phone call to like Europe
  686. 30:17yep you I didn't know anybody who would
  687. 30:20I mean of course the president of the
  688. 30:21United States had the the bat hotline or
  689. 30:24something like that but it nobody did it
  690. 30:27now
  691. 30:28H
  692. 30:31Skype
  693. 30:36satellites uh solar power Sol we'll talk
  694. 30:39more about solar power you don't see
  695. 30:41these type in the United States very
  696. 30:43often but that these are more popular in
  697. 30:46Europe but what these are is instead of
  698. 30:50uh so here's a a building give unit this
  699. 30:52is a fairly large building so these are
  700. 30:54all mirrors so they're not building
  701. 30:57solar panel these are El these are
  702. 30:59mirrors and when the sunlight hits the
  703. 31:03mirrors the mirrors reflect the light
  704. 31:06and focus it back on these pilings so
  705. 31:09you'll be driving across the road
  706. 31:10driving through Spain and you'll see
  707. 31:12this big
  708. 31:13bright structure it's just like wow it's
  709. 31:17like it looks like the sun uh and what
  710. 31:20happens is it shines it back on here and
  711. 31:22it takes salt and makes it and melts the
  712. 31:26salt so melt salt with heat think about
  713. 31:29that then they take that salt Pump It
  714. 31:33underground and then when they need
  715. 31:35electricity they take the salt back up
  716. 31:38expose it to water the water boils
  717. 31:41because it's super super hot produces
  718. 31:44Steam and that produces
  719. 31:46electricity so wow solar panels we'll
  720. 31:49talk more about that and there you can
  721. 31:50kind of see the see them hitting that
  722. 31:54thing and bionic legs and
  723. 31:59yeah pretty crazy
  724. 32:01stuff okay um you said but Andy this
  725. 32:04stuff doesn't really affect me on a
  726. 32:05daily B I don't use WD40 on a daily
  727. 32:08basis here's a question do you
  728. 32:12eat well I'm an eater and you're an
  729. 32:15eater if you're listening to this video
  730. 32:18You're an eater right and eating comes
  731. 32:22from the space how does eating come from
  732. 32:24the space program so my
  733. 32:26dad remember he was a small time farmer
  734. 32:29in Nebraska he had that one big field
  735. 32:32right so one of the problems with corn
  736. 32:34farming is there's this thing called a
  737. 32:36corn root worm a corn root worm is this
  738. 32:40little tiny worm and it's bad we do not
  739. 32:45like corn root worms because what they
  740. 32:48do is they love to eat the roots on the
  741. 32:50corn so the Corn's growing they eat the
  742. 32:54roots the corn tips over falls down and
  743. 32:58dies and there's you don't get any corn
  744. 32:59from them and they're very hard to kill
  745. 33:03the only way to really kill corn R worms
  746. 33:04is with really
  747. 33:06expensive nasty
  748. 33:08chemicals you don't want nasty chemicals
  749. 33:11on your corn I sure don't so before the
  750. 33:16space program my dad would have to go
  751. 33:18out and spray his entire field with
  752. 33:22these terrible chemicals to stop the
  753. 33:24corn root
  754. 33:26worm now very expensive not good for us
  755. 33:30either to eat it he had no choice right
  756. 33:34then they came up with the space program
  757. 33:36and they started taking satellite
  758. 33:37pictures of his fields for him and they
  759. 33:40said here's a picture of your field and
  760. 33:42they would take it in different
  761. 33:43wavelengths and different like UVS and
  762. 33:45stuff like that and by looking at the
  763. 33:47satellite pictures he could tell very
  764. 33:51precisely where in his Fields he has
  765. 33:53corn root worm so now instead of
  766. 33:56spraying the whole field with tons and
  767. 34:00tons and tons of toxic terrible
  768. 34:03chemicals he hires a helicopter he says
  769. 34:06go get this spot get this spot and get
  770. 34:09this spot helicopter goes in there five
  771. 34:12minutes later it's all done they used
  772. 34:15three gallons of pesticide versus tons
  773. 34:17and tons and
  774. 34:19tons and yeah there's all sorts of other
  775. 34:23examples of things like this that have
  776. 34:26happened right you ever heard of canola
  777. 34:28oil in Europe they call it rape seed oil
  778. 34:32by the way canola oil is toxic it's bad
  779. 34:35for you but we figured a way to make it
  780. 34:37so it's
  781. 34:38not there's so many things if you ever
  782. 34:40if if you ever go scuba diving I'm a
  783. 34:43scuba diver love sco diving right you go
  784. 34:45under they have a thing called a dry
  785. 34:47suit and a dry suit is you can put on
  786. 34:50this dry suit and except for your hands
  787. 34:54and your face like this big you're
  788. 34:57completely dry and warm and you can be
  789. 35:00under 200 feet of water and you are
  790. 35:03dry wow well that's pretty cool now
  791. 35:07that's basically a space suit they just
  792. 35:09took the technology for a space suit the
  793. 35:11zippers and all that other stuff and
  794. 35:12just said let's use it for scuba diving
  795. 35:14too I mean it it affects your your your
  796. 35:17life in so many different
  797. 35:20ways now one thing I like to do in my
  798. 35:25classes is I like to teach you something
  799. 35:27that you did not expect to learn or
  800. 35:31see now one thing that I uh I do so you
  801. 35:35go to a math class you you say okay I'm
  802. 35:38going to learn math and I'm going to
  803. 35:39learn a formula or something like that
  804. 35:42right and that's what you do in
  805. 35:45this my classes are a little different
  806. 35:47in case you haven't figured that out so
  807. 35:49without further Ado I'd like you guys to
  808. 35:52look at a
  809. 35:54video now I'll put the I'll send this
  810. 35:57the link out to you so you get a video
  811. 36:00chance to see these two videos of Bill
  812. 36:04Gates drinking poo poo
  813. 36:08water I bet that's a sentence you never
  814. 36:11expected to hear in a business 101 class
  815. 36:13digit Bill Gates drinking poo poo water
  816. 36:17he really does and you'll get to see it
  817. 36:20and so I'll send you these links and you
  818. 36:22can see Bill Gates drinking poo poo
  819. 36:24water
  820. 36:26it's it's
  821. 36:30fun
  822. 36:32okay now so we're talking about research
  823. 36:35and development
  824. 36:36R&D that's how you make money that's
  825. 36:39it's all the
  826. 36:41R&D so let's look at companies that
  827. 36:44spend a lot of money on
  828. 36:46R&D how about Mr
  829. 36:48musk Elon Musk so Elon Musk how often is
  830. 36:53he coming up with new ideas and new
  831. 36:56things Stu
  832. 36:58there's a reason for that okay I Googled
  833. 37:01most valuable car company
  834. 37:05Tesla Tesla is now the most Valu now
  835. 37:08think about all the Innovations if
  836. 37:09you've ever been in a Tesla you know
  837. 37:11that they are amazing cars aren't they
  838. 37:14all the innovations that go in those
  839. 37:16things that they're crazy that's why
  840. 37:18they're beating General Motors and
  841. 37:20that's why they're beating Ford and
  842. 37:23that's why they're being
  843. 37:24Volkswagen and Toyota they are the most
  844. 37:27most valuable car company in the world W
  845. 37:32now Toyota's pretty good company too and
  846. 37:35they come up with technology stuff all
  847. 37:36the time don't they you driven a Toyota
  848. 37:38Prius you know what I'm talking about
  849. 37:41right wow so Tesla Tesla is the most
  850. 37:45because they spend so much money on R&D
  851. 37:47research and
  852. 37:51development okay so so you say
  853. 37:55Andy I
  854. 37:58don't think I'm G to get in the space
  855. 38:00program wait wait say Elon Musk is in
  856. 38:02the space program isn't he he's got his
  857. 38:05own little space program going on
  858. 38:07there
  859. 38:09huh huh what's happening to his
  860. 38:14wealth okay say but Andy I'm not a
  861. 38:18scientist
  862. 38:21I'm I'm a student at Belleview Community
  863. 38:24College I'm not going to be in the space
  864. 38:26I'm not a rocket Scientist by definition
  865. 38:30right now there is a project that's you
  866. 38:34can get into and you can make a lot of
  867. 38:37money just like the Space Program in
  868. 38:40fact this project has the potential to
  869. 38:44make more money than the Space Program
  870. 38:47ever even
  871. 38:48anticipated and it's something that
  872. 38:52almost anybody can get
  873. 38:54into so before George
  874. 38:58Bush senior died by the way I did two
  875. 39:00projects for him I got to meet him tell
  876. 39:02you stories about that
  877. 39:04but George Bush who is a republican by
  878. 39:09every
  879. 39:10definition and Bill Clinton who is a
  880. 39:13Democrat by every
  881. 39:16definition both agree on
  882. 39:19something what how often do Democrats
  883. 39:21and Republicans agree on something they
  884. 39:24both agree on this they both say that
  885. 39:28there's something way bigger than the
  886. 39:30space program and anybody can get
  887. 39:32involved in it and it's GNA be wide open
  888. 39:36and what could that
  889. 39:39be climate change say climate change I
  890. 39:43don't believe in climate
  891. 39:45change really no Andy I don't I don't
  892. 39:49believe it doesn't it's not mad M it
  893. 39:51doesn't
  894. 39:53okay you watch you watch the news and
  895. 39:55they say well you know there's some
  896. 39:57people that say that it doesn't exist
  897. 39:59yes there are it's like 99% of
  898. 40:04all earth scientists believe climate
  899. 40:07change is
  900. 40:09real and that it's caused by humans
  901. 40:12right they they do right are there a
  902. 40:14couple of weirdos out there that say it
  903. 40:15doesn't sure there are when I was
  904. 40:18growing up they said the same thing
  905. 40:20about smoking
  906. 40:21cigarettes right you had doctors that
  907. 40:23say nine out of 10 doctors prefer Camel
  908. 40:26cigarettes because they're better for
  909. 40:27you they're cool and minty and
  910. 40:29all they really did look go look go look
  911. 40:33back at the at the lature they they had
  912. 40:35all sorts of people saying oh cigarette
  913. 40:37smoking is actually good for you it
  914. 40:39helps clear your sinus passages and
  915. 40:41stuff well we know that that was a bunch
  916. 40:43of hooie don't we and people say the
  917. 40:46same thing with climate change so I I
  918. 40:49saw television where I saw this
  919. 40:51politician and he says said what do you
  920. 40:53think about climate change and the guy
  921. 40:56says qu
  922. 40:59I don't know about climate change is
  923. 41:00real I'm not a scientist so I don't I
  924. 41:03don't know about climate I don't I just
  925. 41:06don't know because I'm know as
  926. 41:08scientist
  927. 41:10okay you're driving down the road you
  928. 41:13see a baby on the side of the road with
  929. 41:17blood coming out of its ears and it's
  930. 41:19not
  931. 41:21moving do you need to be a doctor to
  932. 41:24know that that baby needs some medical
  933. 41:26help
  934. 41:30no you say yeah that baby might have
  935. 41:34been hit by a car or something or thrown
  936. 41:35out the window or something like that
  937. 41:37but I'm not an doctor so I don't know
  938. 41:38I'm just leave let it let it Let It Go
  939. 41:43no you don't I've traveled all over the
  940. 41:45world you cannot miss climate change you
  941. 41:48just cannot miss it right so we got this
  942. 41:51beautiful Park in Montana called Glacier
  943. 41:53National
  944. 41:54Park Glacier glacier's big
  945. 41:57pile of snow right okay there are at
  946. 42:01least 35
  947. 42:03glaciers left in there in 1850 they had
  948. 42:08150 by the year 2030 there will be no
  949. 42:13glaciers in Glacier National
  950. 42:16Park you can't miss it so I've traveled
  951. 42:18all all over the world right I got I've
  952. 42:20been all over South America South
  953. 42:21America is really cool now South America
  954. 42:25has some of the most beautiful mountain
  955. 42:27mountains in the world they are
  956. 42:30phenomenal you know what the name of
  957. 42:31those mountains are they're about the
  958. 42:34prettiest mountains in the world they're
  959. 42:36the Andes
  960. 42:39mountain is really they're called the
  961. 42:41Andes Mountain they spell it wrong but
  962. 42:44it's Andy Mountain so I've been all over
  963. 42:46the Andy Mountain I've been I've been
  964. 42:48glacier climbing and and had a lot of
  965. 42:51fun so guess how
  966. 42:54many glaciers in South America America
  967. 42:58are not in Retreat are not melting
  968. 43:03away one there's only one but it's fed
  969. 43:07by three other glaciers that are melting
  970. 43:09and as soon as those glaciers go away it
  971. 43:11will melt and go away they are all going
  972. 43:15away wow wow wow so uh up in Alaska they
  973. 43:20have something on Glacier Bay if you
  974. 43:22haven't been to Glacier Bay you need to
  975. 43:24go it's beautiful it's beautiful
  976. 43:27by the way 100 years ago Glacier Bay did
  977. 43:30not exist it wasn't there now it goes
  978. 43:34back 35 miles I've been it I've been
  979. 43:38there a couple times right it didn't
  980. 43:40exist before what do you mean there was
  981. 43:42there was no Glacier Bay it was just a
  982. 43:43glacier right but it's melted back 35
  983. 43:48miles right so I've been i' I've been to
  984. 43:51Glacier Bank couple times and i' I've
  985. 43:54been there so I was there like two years
  986. 43:57ago and then I was there 10 years before
  987. 44:00that you cannot miss the difference when
  988. 44:03you go to Glacier Bay between 10 years
  989. 44:0610 year difference you cannot miss the
  990. 44:08glaciers that are melting so here let's
  991. 44:12take a look let's got some pictures
  992. 44:20here come on pop up
  993. 44:29oh cut based what the
  994. 44:34heck I don't know why it's not coming up
  995. 44:36but oh
  996. 44:38well so I did a Google
  997. 44:45search climate change before and after
  998. 44:49pictures yeah I
  999. 44:53mean yeah versus that right you cannot
1000. 44:57miss it right when when you go there so
  1001. 45:00I
  1002. 45:01went and I remember a glacier that was
1003. 45:04like this you can get right up next to
1004. 45:07the glacier and it was cool
  1005. 45:10right I was there 10 years later you
1006. 45:13could not see the glacier it was
1007. 45:15gone just gone this River of ice has
  1008. 45:19melted right you you just can't can't
  1009. 45:22miss can't miss it that that's climate
1010. 45:25change is everywhere look at that
  1011. 45:28and people say well I don't think that
  1012. 45:30it's really real it is so I went on a I
1013. 45:32went on Safari in Africa right wonderful
1014. 45:35stuff yeah I saw the elephants and the
1015. 45:38gazel and all sort I actually had an
  1016. 45:41elephant attack my
1017. 45:43Jeep he put a big old dent in the hood
  1018. 45:46yeah I was gonna take a group of
1019. 45:47students to um uh Africa but then I had
1020. 45:52that je that elephant attacked my Jeep
1021. 45:54and I thought maybe not such a good idea
1022. 45:56it was in kruer National Park if you
1023. 45:57ever know anything about South South
  1024. 45:59Africa so a couple days later I heard
1025. 46:02another elephant attacked another Jeep
1026. 46:05and as they tipped it over tipped the
1027. 46:07Jeep over and as the people were
1028. 46:09crawling out of the tipped over Jeep
1029. 46:11they got a welcoming party from the
  1030. 46:13local
  1031. 46:14Lions not Lions
1032. 46:16Club lions and ate them so I said maybe
1033. 46:21not a good thing to do right so went
  1034. 46:23went to Krueger Krueger's it's old park
1035. 46:25it's beautiful you see all you see see
1036. 46:27monkeys and warthogs and all sorts of
  1037. 46:29great stuff it's it's really really cool
1038. 46:30you should go on by the way Africa is
1039. 46:33profoundly beautiful it is you think
1040. 46:36it's pretty it's gorgeous right you you
1041. 46:39unless you've been there you have no
1042. 46:41idea how how just raw Beauty it is but
1043. 46:43it it's really so then I went on Safari
  1044. 46:46to so I went on a number of safaris I
1045. 46:47went to Kruger and then I went to some
1046. 46:48other places and I went on this other
  1047. 46:51Safari
  1048. 46:52and the park looked
1049. 46:55weird I looked at the it it just didn't
1050. 46:58feel the same there was just something
1051. 47:01weird about them I notic the trees
1052. 47:03weren't nearly as big or big around and
1053. 47:07it just didn't feel right and so we saw
1054. 47:10giraffes and all sorts of Critters and
1055. 47:13and uh but then I asked my tour guy I
1056. 47:15said this place doesn't feel like the
1057. 47:17other one and we're not that far away
1058. 47:19from it how come why is it this he says
1059. 47:21well this is new I said what do you mean
  1060. 47:24new it's a new park it's a new park yeah
  1061. 47:28brand new
1062. 47:30park really how do how what makes it a
1063. 47:33new park he says well these used to be
1064. 47:35wheat Fields call these trees no they're
1065. 47:38not here right we put the so we took the
1066. 47:41wheat field the the climate change
1067. 47:43stopped us from being able to grow wheat
1068. 47:45here by the way wheat uses almost no
1069. 47:48water wheat if you ever go to Eastern
1070. 47:51Washington and see where they can't have
1071. 47:53any if they they don't have water to
1072. 47:55irrigate they grow wheat because it
  1073. 47:57needs almost no water I can it's very
  1074. 47:59dry land
1075. 48:01tolerant but all the wheat Fields they
1076. 48:04died out they couldn't go they did not
1077. 48:05get enough water because of climate
1078. 48:07change so they said well so we had this
  1079. 48:09Barren
1080. 48:10desert where the soil's not that bad but
1081. 48:14there's no there's no water for the for
1082. 48:17the wheat so what we did was we planted
  1083. 48:19some
1084. 48:21trees and then we truck in water to
1085. 48:25water the trees and then we put
1086. 48:26elephants and some giraffes on it and
1087. 48:29then we get people like you to pay to
1088. 48:31come to visit the park the fake
1089. 48:35Park wow climate change you cannot miss
  1090. 48:40climate
1091. 48:43change you say but Andy how can I make
1092. 48:46money on climate change oh there's so
1093. 48:48many ways to make money on climate
1094. 48:50change big time so went to
1095. 48:53India went to shanai India I'll show you
1096. 48:55some pictures of shanai IND Shai is this
1097. 48:58huge huge mega City on the southeast
1098. 49:02part of India right and if you go to
1099. 49:06India one of the things so I've traveled
1100. 49:09all over India right one of the things
1101. 49:10you'll notice in India is it's very
  1102. 49:13polluted it's really polluted and we'll
1103. 49:15I'll show you some stats on that too but
1104. 49:18there's pollution everywhere so you go
  1105. 49:19to
1106. 49:20shanai Shai very polluted they get over
1107. 49:24half of their energy from Renewables in
  1108. 49:29other words solar
1109. 49:30panels wait Shai gets half of their
1110. 49:33electricity from solar panels and
1111. 49:34they're not doing it because they care
1112. 49:36about the environment the Indian
1113. 49:37government does not care about the
1114. 49:40environment at all they're doing it to
1115. 49:43make money and they are making money on
1116. 49:47it okay so see but that's the other side
1117. 49:50of the planet okay so so if you live in
  1118. 49:52sish
1119. 49:54county sish county is working on getting
1120. 49:58Bing electricity as the tides come in
1121. 50:00and out so when the tides go up and down
  1122. 50:02they usually go twice a
1123. 50:04day they're working on ways to De put
1124. 50:07little turbines underwater to make
1125. 50:10electricity uh I live over in North Ben
1126. 50:13our electric companies called Tanner
  1127. 50:15Co-op they're investing in solar
1128. 50:17panels yep China and India loves solar
1129. 50:21panels right they love it and it's not
  1130. 50:24because they are environmentally
  1131. 50:25friendly
1132. 50:27they're not it's because they can make
1133. 50:30money so go to New Zealand New Zealand's
1134. 50:33a cool place to go to too see the kiwis
1135. 50:35which are really not that interesting
1136. 50:37the little birds that live underground
1137. 50:39anyway you can get to see the kiwis so
1138. 50:41in New Zealand they use petroleum pretty
  1139. 50:45much only for
1140. 50:46cars everything else is you they use
1141. 50:50Earth generated heat so when you go to
1142. 50:53go to uh New Zealand you're walking
1143. 50:55through town and you'll see steam pipes
1144. 50:57and they get the steam from underground
  1145. 50:59because it's geologically active and
1146. 51:01they steam in all their houses and so
1147. 51:03they they don't have any heating things
  1148. 51:05or anything it's it's really really cool
1149. 51:07Iceland they do the same thing and you
1150. 51:09say well that's nice you can do that in
1151. 51:11Iceland which is basically a volcano and
1152. 51:13you can do that in New Zealand which is
  1153. 51:15basically a volcano but we don't have
  1154. 51:17any volcanoes here in
  1155. 51:20Washington we
1156. 51:23don't well Mount St Helens
  1157. 51:26Mount
1158. 51:27rineer Mount Baker Mount Adams I think
  1159. 51:32there's another one three sisters we've
1160. 51:35got some volcanoes you say but anyy
  1161. 51:37that's it's hard it's hard to get the
1162. 51:40heat from the ground have you ever been
1163. 51:42in the r building at Bel college that
1164. 51:46building uses almost no electricity the
1165. 51:49only electricity it uses is for
1166. 51:53lighting that's it oh how do they heat
  1167. 51:56the building
1168. 51:57have you ever noticed if you I've been
1169. 51:59teaching there for a while did you know
1170. 52:01that ever notic that our building is
  1171. 52:03always
1172. 52:04hot in the winter and you're say why is
1173. 52:08it hot shouldn't they be saving money
1174. 52:11because they use it like they get it
1175. 52:12it's geothermal heated from the earth so
  1176. 52:16you there's a courtyard out in front of
1177. 52:18the r building and when they were
1178. 52:21building the our building that courtyard
1179. 52:23they built a whole bunch of deep Wells
1180. 52:25that go way down in the earth and then
1181. 52:28we pipe water down below to it it warms
1182. 52:31it up and then we take the warm water
1183. 52:32and we use it to heat the
1184. 52:34building at the time when our building
1185. 52:36was built it was one of the most uh
  1186. 52:39environmentally friendly Green buildings
  1187. 52:42in the world it's actually a very
1188. 52:44high-tech building now do you think
1189. 52:46bellia college did it because we care
  1190. 52:47about the
  1191. 52:49environment oh
1192. 52:51yeah okay some people do
  1193. 52:55sure there's a lot of stuff that they
1194. 52:57could do that would be a lot easier on
  1195. 52:59the environment right that they're not
1196. 53:01doing it they did it to save
1197. 53:04money now you go down to
1198. 53:08um to uh New Zealand and they have
  1199. 53:13living
  1200. 53:14buildings living buildings yep
  1201. 53:29let's see
  1202. 53:30here where's some of the living
1203. 53:34buildings see how they put trees there
  1204. 53:37but there's one building that's really
  1205. 53:39famous I'm surprised it didn't come up
  1206. 53:42yeah here's one of the living
  1207. 53:43buildings there's a real famous one yeah
1208. 53:46see they have on the
  1209. 53:49inside where is that one there's a one I
1210. 53:52thought I had a link to it to show you
  1211. 53:54because it's really really
  1212. 53:59fun is that it I can't
1213. 54:05tell darn it I'll send you a link and
1214. 54:09get you a better picture but they do
  1215. 54:11they have living
1216. 54:12buildings and the reason they have
1217. 54:14living buildings is they basically take
  1218. 54:16a
1219. 54:17building and drape it with plants so
  1220. 54:20it's covered with
1221. 54:23plants then they take the waste water
1222. 54:26that the building produces you know so
1223. 54:28when you brush your teeth or do
1224. 54:30something like that take a shower they
1225. 54:32take that water not the poooo water they
  1226. 54:34give that to Bill
1227. 54:36Gates yeah so they take the waste water
1228. 54:41and they feed it to the plants so the
1229. 54:43plants take this water that was waste
1230. 54:46water and they eat it they drink it or
1231. 54:49what whatever plants do with water right
1232. 54:51now when the plants do
1233. 54:54photosynthesis they take the sunlight
1234. 54:57they take water and they take carbon
1235. 55:01dioxide and they let out the water it
1236. 55:04evaporates and the carbon dioxide turns
  1237. 55:07into
1238. 55:09oxygen yeah greenhouse gas yeah o turns
1239. 55:13an oxygen which is not a greenhouse gas
1240. 55:16but also when it does this it lets off
1241. 55:19heat or it takes away heat so when they
1242. 55:23put these build these these plants on
1243. 55:24the side of the buildings first St it
1244. 55:26stops them for having to do water
1245. 55:28treatment which is a good thing right
1246. 55:30they can save a lot more water also it
1247. 55:32cools the building it's actually an air
1248. 55:35conditioner and it reflects some of it
1249. 55:37back and it's good on the environment
1250. 55:39and it's really cool looking too right
  1251. 55:42and they're doing it so I've been there
1252. 55:44you walk by these buildings and so if
1253. 55:47you've ever been to Sydney this was in
1254. 55:49Sydney one that I've been to it's so hot
1255. 55:53Sydney is unbelievably hot all right and
1256. 55:57they spend a lot of money on air
  1257. 55:59conditioning that's why they have these
  1258. 56:01buildings you don't need air
  1259. 56:03conditioning so you're walking down to
  1260. 56:04straight Sydney all a sudden the
  1261. 56:06temperature drops because you're like
  1262. 56:08dying right because it's just you're
  1263. 56:10just a big sweatball all a sudden the
  1264. 56:12temperature drops and you're like going
1265. 56:14oh that's what's it and then you see the
1266. 56:15building so it cools they do that to
  1267. 56:19make
  1268. 56:21money
  1269. 56:23wow so let's look at Electric
1270. 56:26cars electric cars Gotta Love electric
  1271. 56:29cars I do no I don't like electric cars
1272. 56:31what do you do when the battery runs out
1273. 56:34well what do you do when your gas runs
1274. 56:36out of your car it's the same thing you
1275. 56:40plug it so if you get a a Tesla and
1276. 56:43Tesla's get like what 250 miles is on a
1277. 56:48charge and they have these Tesla
1278. 56:50recharging stations all over the place
1279. 56:52it takes you about 20 minutes to charge
1280. 56:54up your car well I don't want to wait
  1281. 56:56around for 20
  1282. 56:57minutes yeah you do you've driven 250
1283. 57:00miles and you haven't charged up you
1284. 57:02need to get out of the car anyway go get
1285. 57:05a cup of coffee go pee do whatever you
1286. 57:07need to do right so you you you pull
1287. 57:10into one of these charging stations and
1288. 57:12then they can charge up your battery
  1289. 57:13100% in 20 minutes say but Andy I don't
1290. 57:17want to wait for 20 minutes Well
1291. 57:18normally you have to put in gas in your
1292. 57:20car don't you and how long does it take
1293. 57:22you to put in the gas so let's say it
1294. 57:24takes you five minutes to put in gas
1295. 57:26right then you need to go to the
1296. 57:28bathroom right so it's going to take you
1297. 57:30five minutes to go to the bathroom then
1298. 57:32you might grab a cup of coffee or some
1299. 57:35to heat right five minutes now you're
  1300. 57:37ready to go it's the same thing plug-in
1301. 57:39cars by the way EVS so let's look at
  1302. 57:43plug-in
  1303. 57:49cars these are plug-in who makes plug-in
1304. 57:53cars when you think of a car company do
  1305. 57:56you think of a company that's
  1306. 57:58environmentally
1307. 58:00friendly you think Volkswagen was really
1308. 58:03worried about the environment when they
1309. 58:05caus all their cars to cheat on the
  1310. 58:07emission
  1311. 58:10systems no they're not so let's see who
1312. 58:13makes electric cars Audi by the way Audi
  1313. 58:17is
1314. 58:19Volkswagen BMW BMW BMW BMW BMW Chevrolet
1315. 58:26Chrysler Ford Honda Honda Hyundai
1316. 58:30Hyundai Hyundai Hyundai Jag KIA KIA KIA
1317. 58:35KIA mercedesbenz mini mini Mitsubishi
1318. 58:39Nissan Porsche Porsche Porsche by the
1319. 58:43way Bill Gates drives a Porsche EV he
  1320. 58:45drives one of
  1321. 58:47these that's why Elon Musk doesn't like
1322. 58:50him because he's driving this car right
1323. 58:53right so Subaru Tesla Tesla Tesla Tesla
  1324. 58:57Honda
1325. 58:58plug-in hybrid I bought my wife one of
  1326. 59:01these so the first 25
1327. 59:03miles it's all electric and so we live
1328. 59:08in Northbend grocery store is about six
  1329. 59:11miles
1330. 59:12away we never buy gas I haven't been in
1331. 59:15a gas station for a long time well what
1332. 59:18about how much you have to pay for
  1333. 59:20electricity remember our electricity
1334. 59:22here in the Northwest is very cheap
1335. 59:24because the grand Dam that damn
1336. 59:26thing gives us the cheapest electricity
1337. 59:28in the in the the country so yeah it
1338. 59:31costs a little bit of extra money to
1339. 59:32plug in your car nothing like the price
  1340. 59:35of gasoline well price of gasoline's
1341. 59:37down it is and what's going to happen
1342. 59:40the price of gasoline it's going to go
  1343. 59:42up yes it
  1344. 59:45is
  1345. 59:47Volkswagen remember not a green company
  1346. 59:51Volvo Volvo
1347. 59:53Volvo Bon I don't know but Who Bite Bite
  1348. 59:56Me
  1349. 59:57Is Right Ford Lucid I don't know that
  1350. 1:00:01person who designed this car I don't
1351. 1:00:03think was very lucid Lucid means
  1352. 1:00:06mentally
  1353. 1:00:07aware Mercedes-Benz pstar I think I
1354. 1:00:10changed my name there too
1355. 1:00:13Tesla wow all these companies do it do
1356. 1:00:16you think they do it because they care
  1357. 1:00:18about the
1358. 1:00:21environment nope NOP NOP nope now you
  1359. 1:00:24say Andy I didn't see a Toyota Tessa I
1360. 1:00:27know because they stopped making Toyota
  1361. 1:00:30tesas
1362. 1:00:31but here's the list of discontinued cars
1363. 1:00:35they don't make these cars any longer
1364. 1:00:38right well I can see why they don't make
1365. 1:00:41this car any longer you know if you
  1366. 1:00:44drive one of
1367. 1:00:45those and you pull in the gas stations
1368. 1:00:47you're G to get beat up because it looks
1369. 1:00:50just so nerdy right BMW Cadillac Kota F
  1370. 1:00:55car
1371. 1:00:56Ford Ford these are all the ones they
1372. 1:00:59don't make anymore fit mini Mercedes
1373. 1:01:03Tesla Roadster think Toyota EV Toyota
1374. 1:01:07RAV for this is what I have Andy you
  1375. 1:01:11paid $50,000 for that
  1376. 1:01:14car no I did not I did
1377. 1:01:18not so let's look at the Toyota Rav
1378. 1:01:224 so it's an electric car right
1379. 1:01:26discontinued when they sold them they
1380. 1:01:29charged you $50,000 for to buy them
1381. 1:01:31brand new you can only buy them in
1382. 1:01:33California okay but out of the $50,000
  1383. 1:01:36then you got
1384. 1:01:37$7,500 tax credit so instead of 50,000
  1385. 1:01:42now it's
1386. 1:01:4443 you say well still 43 is pretty
1387. 1:01:47terrible no in California if you drive
1388. 1:01:50an EV you get to use the carpol lanes
1389. 1:01:54too so now you get to drive in to work
1390. 1:01:58and you don't to pay all that money for
1391. 1:02:00you get in Faster he that's pretty cool
1392. 1:02:04yeah but Andy it only has 100 mile range
1393. 1:02:06that's correct it only has 100 mile
  1394. 1:02:08range it takes a little it's not like a
1395. 1:02:10regular Tesla it takes a little longer
1396. 1:02:12to plug in yeah so if you want to go you
1397. 1:02:15said well what if I want to drive from
1398. 1:02:16here to Florida well then get a
  1399. 1:02:19different car right it's not designed
1400. 1:02:21for that but it is for a commuter car I
1401. 1:02:24love my car it's fast it costs almost
1402. 1:02:27nothing to to drive and people look at
1403. 1:02:30it they go oh Toyota R for dpy car and
  1404. 1:02:33then it just
  1405. 1:02:35flies and there's no maintenance think I
1406. 1:02:38don't have to do oil changes I don't do
1407. 1:02:40brakes but you don't do break no no need
  1408. 1:02:43to do braks it's regenerative which
1409. 1:02:45means when you press on the break it
1410. 1:02:48doesn't break it turns the motors that
1411. 1:02:51make the car go forward into generators
  1412. 1:02:55and recharge chares the
1413. 1:02:58battery oh that's pretty good yeah so it
1414. 1:03:02gets a lot better mileage than you might
  1415. 1:03:04think right so it's a great car Andy
  1416. 1:03:06though I was still $43,000 wait a second
  1417. 1:03:09isn't that about what a top-of-the-line
1418. 1:03:11ra 4 goes for now pretty close no by the
  1419. 1:03:15way I didn't pay that I paid $177,000
  1420. 1:03:18for
  1421. 1:03:20it
1422. 1:03:23$177,000 how do you get it for $177,000
1423. 1:03:25it was used it was three years old right
1424. 1:03:28it had 30,000 miles on it right a Toyota
  1425. 1:03:31with 30,000 miles what does
1426. 1:03:34that brand new it's not even broken in
1427. 1:03:37right so yeah had 30 so it was used
  1428. 1:03:40right
  1429. 1:03:41and 17 isn't bad no no it gets
  1430. 1:03:45better because the
1431. 1:03:47$117,000 that it cost you figure how
1432. 1:03:50much money you're going to save on
  1433. 1:03:54fuel brakes
  1434. 1:03:57uh fuel braks
  1435. 1:04:00gasoline oil
1436. 1:04:02changes this is electric motor nothing
1437. 1:04:04goes wrong with electric motors but very
1438. 1:04:07rarely they're very very very very very
1439. 1:04:10reliable so whenever you see a cho cho
1440. 1:04:12they use diesel electrics basically they
  1441. 1:04:15use a diesel engine to produce
1442. 1:04:17electricity to drive the train you ever
1443. 1:04:19ride the fairies they use the same
  1444. 1:04:21system they're doing it for a reason
  1445. 1:04:23because it's very efficient and they're
1446. 1:04:24very reliable so they don't have to
1447. 1:04:26worry about it breaking down and they
1448. 1:04:28don't well Fair break down all the time
1449. 1:04:31yeah it's probably the diesel part not
1450. 1:04:32the electric right so these things are
1451. 1:04:34going to last forever so if you take all
1452. 1:04:36those those together and then you figure
  1453. 1:04:39out how much you're
  1454. 1:04:41saving I figured that the fiveyear
1455. 1:04:44fiveyear cost to operate this car when
1456. 1:04:47you take all those away and then you add
  1457. 1:04:50in
1458. 1:04:52electricity I figure that the cost to to
  1459. 1:04:55to buy it
1460. 1:04:56drive it five years and sell it I figur
1461. 1:05:00it's going to cost me about
  1462. 1:05:01$3,000 to
  1463. 1:05:04own
1464. 1:05:05$3,000 fiveyear cost of ownership go on
1465. 1:05:09Kelly Blue Book or whatever and see what
1466. 1:05:11the fiveyear cost to operate most cars
1467. 1:05:16is a lot more right so you buy go buy a
  1468. 1:05:20brand new rad 4 it's probably going to
  1469. 1:05:22cost you closer to
