- 0:05We're going to crash into the ground. 72
- 0:06Bravo Delta.
- 0:09November 2 Bravo Delta. I'm here with
- 0:10you. Talk to me.
- 0:13>> This was a horrific moment. A private
- 0:15jet worth $2.8 million plummeted into
- 0:18the ground in South Florida, killing all
- 0:20nine people on board.
- 0:22>> [music]
- 0:23>> At this stage, it remains a mystery as
- 0:24to what caused the Lejet 60 to drop out
- 0:27of the sky at 30,000 ft per [music]
- 0:29minute.
- 0:31But a text message sent by the
- 0:3220-year-old co-pilot Natalyia Filgrera
- 0:35[music] moments before the tragedy may
- 0:37hold the answers as to what went wrong.
- 0:40Phil Guerrera had departed Austin
- 0:42Bergtorm International Airport in Texas
- 0:44on route to the Bahamas with pilot Jeff
- 0:46Gregory. [music] The crew traveled along
- 0:48the tech entrepreneur Adam Robinson, his
- 0:51wife Helen, and their two young children
- 0:53along with their nanny and two close
- 0:55friends. But as the plane climbed to
- 0:5735,000 ft, Phil Guerrera began to report
- 1:00issues.
- 1:00>> Roger. Say outside air temperature
- 1:03>> -47°.
- 1:05We're managing the ice, but it is
- 1:06moderate turbulence or direct reports.
- 1:09>> Ice accumulates on an aircraft when it
- 1:11flies through clouds or precipitation
- 1:13which contain super cooled water
- 1:15droplets. Even a little bit of ice can
- 1:17have a significant effect on how an
- 1:19aircraft flies. When the surface of the
- 1:21wing strikes super cooled water
- 1:23droplets, the sudden impact causes them
- 1:25to freeze instantly. The accumulation of
- 1:28ice on the wing changes the wing.
- 1:29[music] It reduces the aircraft's lift,
- 1:31increases the drag, and increases the
- 1:33stall speed. This makes the aircraft
- 1:36more difficult to [music] control.
- 1:38To escape the turbulent air, the pilot
- 1:40requested the plane to head higher by
- 1:422,000 ft. [music] The crew had reported
- 1:44outside temperatures of -47° C, but it
- 1:48soon headed in the opposite direction
- 1:50and the situation began to deteriorate.
- 1:55Minutes before the crash, Phil Guerrera
- 1:57texted her boyfriend, fearing the worst.
- 2:05Then the sheer panic on board was
- 2:06captured by air traffic control audio
- 2:08recording.
- 2:09>> 722 Bravo Delta, we're descending 8,000.
- 2:12Mayday, mayday. We're descending 10,000
- 2:13ft per minute.
- 2:15>> November 722 Bravo Delta. Roger.
- 2:18>> Declaring emergency 722 Bravo Delta. We
- 2:21are in an over speed condition.
- 2:23Descending 20,000 ft per minute.
- 2:25>> November 722 Bravo Delta. Roger.
- 2:27Altitude. Your discretion. Let me know
- 2:29what you need.
- 2:32>> We're going to crash into the ground.
- 2:33722 Bravo Delta.
- 2:37>> November 2 Bravo Delta. I'm here with
- 2:38you. Talk to me. We are descending
- 2:4122,000 ft and we are banking 60°.
- 2:50>> November two bravo delta. Roger.
- 2:57Look outside.
- 2:59Holy. We're out of
- 3:02>> November 2 Bravo Delta.
- 3:04November 2 Bravo Delta. How do you hear?
- 3:08November 2 Bravo Delta Miami.
- 3:12>> Oh my god.
- 3:24>> Debris from the crash was scattered
- 3:25across the roadway near a mobile home
- 3:27park with the force of the collision
- 3:29carving a deep crater into the ground.
- 3:31The impact was so intense it feared the
- 3:33black box which could shed light on the
- 3:35cause of the crash will never be
- 3:36recovered.
- 3:42Our mission is to understand not just
- 3:44what happened, but why it happened and
- 3:47to recommend [music] changes to prevent
- 3:49it from happening again. We do have some
- 3:51evidence that there was some breakup of
- 3:53the aircraft before impact. We're still
- 3:55seeking to determine that. Some of this
- 3:57is yet to be determined. [music] We may
- 3:58find parts of the aircraft some distance
- 4:01away from the actual impact site.
- 4:04>> 4,500 ft traffic.
- 4:06>> Nice. pretty square pattern. Good job,
- 4:09Natalia.
- 4:10>> While other kids think it's cool to
- 4:12drive a car alone, she thinks it's
- 4:14cooler to fly a plane now.
- 4:17>> I like [music] being different than
- 4:18everyone. So, um to me, I think it's
- 4:21like cool that
- 4:23um well, like it's not really an
- 4:24opportunity. I kind of just didn't do it
- 4:27and this is how it ended up.
- 4:29>> Phil Guerrera had been working as a
- 4:31commercial pilot for 9 months with over
- 4:3313,000 hours of flying experience. The
- 4:36young aviator got her private pilot
- 4:38license at just 17 in October 2023
- 4:41before she even had her driving license.
- 4:42[music]
- 4:43She had begun pilot lessons in 2020, but
- 4:46was also taught by her dad. [music]
- 4:48>> Um, I think it's kind of cool. Some
- 4:49people think that it's like weird
- 4:52because I can fly planes, but I can't
- 4:55drive a car. I mean, I can, but
- 4:57[laughter]
- 4:58um, a lot of people think it's funny. I
- 5:00think it's funny, and I now want my
- 5:02license really bad. Arcadia traffic
- 5:05Bonanza 710 for Bravo 1m final two for
- 5:08Arcadia.
- 5:11>> Yeah, it was exactly one mile.
- 5:13>> The 20-year-old regularly documented her
- 5:15aviation journey on social media,
- 5:17sharing photos and videos from her
- 5:19flight. [music] She had even described
- 5:21herself as having a plane addiction in
- 5:22one of her posts. Her mother, Camila
- 5:25Philerrera, told the post that [music]
- 5:27I knew that a plane was going to take
- 5:29her away from me. I always knew it, but
- 5:31I was proud of her. I know she was
- 5:33living her dream.
- 5:35NASA administrator Jared Isaacman jumped
- 5:37on his personal social media to back up
- 5:39the Leah Jet's young co-pilot.
- 5:41>> She likely knew before many of those
- 5:43calls that she was going to die. I have
- 5:46heard final calls from friends, from
- 5:48military pilots with thousands of hours
- 5:50in fighter aircraft, and they are just
- 5:52as heartbreaking because they know the
- 5:54end is approaching.
- 5:56>> Family members released an emotional
- 5:58joint statement honoring the victims of
- 6:00the incident. They remembered [music]
- 6:01Retention.com and RB2B founder Adam
- 6:04Robinson and his wife Helen as devoted
- 6:06[music] parents whose marriage was the
- 6:08love affair that will last forever.
- 6:11The two friends Rachel and Charmmy who
- 6:13were also on the flight were remembered
- 6:14as being full of joy and adventure.
- 6:17While the family's nanny Anita Maria was
- 6:19remembered for her unconditional love
- 6:20and devotion. The National
- 6:23Transportation Safety Board is examining
- 6:25all potential factors, including
- 6:27prevailing weather conditions and
- 6:28recovered wreckage [music] as
- 6:30investigations into the incident
- 6:31continue.
- 6:33Look outside. Look outside.
- 6:36Holy, [music] we're out of
- 6:42What the That was a
- 6:49something just fell down.
