- 0:05It’s not easy, I know, but girl, it’s
- 0:07part of it. See you on Sunday at the
- 0:09usual time.
- 0:10>> Hello, welcome to another episode.
- 0:14This time, solo.
- 0:16I already did this last year, solo after
- 0:18the half-marathon, and I thought it made
- 0:20sense because I also want, obviously, to
- 0:22bring more solo episodes, as I had said
- 0:24at the beginning of this third season of
- 0:26"Amiga faz parte."
- 0:28Uh, and I thought it made sense in terms
- 0:31of timing, because I literally just got
- 0:33back yesterday late afternoon from my
- 0:35Valencia half-marathon, the one that was
- 0:37my goal and that I’d been mega nervous
- 0:40about for a long time and spent the last
- 0:424 months preparing for.
- 0:44So, a big deal in my life.
- 0:48Ah, no one cares if I finished under 2
- 0:50hours or if I didn't, but I set this
- 0:52goal for myself and I was really very
- 0:54nervous lately about this race.
- 0:58Because it was, it was months of
- 0:59preparation, so I thought it made sense
- 1:02to sit here for a bit as well. And I
- 1:04don't want this episode to be just about
- 1:05the half-marathon, because I feel like
- 1:07it pushes away the folks who aren't into
- 1:09running.
- 1:10But obviously, I will also explain a
- 1:13little bit how I felt during this race
- 1:15and how it all went, but bring a bit of
- 1:17therapy too and what I'm feeling, how I
- 1:20am right now, my rose, thorn, and seed.
- 1:24Uh, well, the normal episodes and this
- 1:26debrief of everything that's going on in
- 1:28my head, the mess that's in my head
- 1:30right now.
- 1:31But I thought it made sense, because
- 1:33last year I also did this solo episode
- 1:35after the half-marathon.
- 1:37And, at the time, it was an even bigger
- 1:39deal for me, because it was my first
- 1:40half-marathon and I was much more
- 1:42nervous, and it was much more of a scene
- 1:44than now, that I already know what it is
- 1:45, I already know what I'm getting into.
- 1:49But I went in with a set goal, so there
- 1:51was just as much pressure; I put immense
- 1:53pressure on myself to reach this goal.
- 1:56But I thought it made sense to also draw
- 1:59a parallel between how I was back then
- 2:01versus now, uh, what I felt post-race or
- 2:03the post-race blues that I'm feeling and
- 2:06that I was feeling at the time, and make
- 2:08a parallel with a year ago, because it
- 2:11was literally a year ago that I did my
- 2:13first half-marathon.
- 2:17But well, let's start obviously with the
- 2:19rose, which is that I ran it in under 2
- 2:21hours, so I met my goal, so obviously
- 2:24that will be this week’s rose.
- 2:27Oh, I felt really, really good during
- 2:29the race. I also ended up sharing a more
- 2:32detailed and focused account of the race
- 2:35on YouTube. So, for those who are into
- 2:37running and interested in these kinds of
- 2:40topics, I ended up sharing a lot there
- 2:42and also explaining a bit, taking people
- 2:44along with me through a bit of the
- 2:46preparation process up until the day of
- 2:48the race. I explained a lot about how I
- 2:51felt during the race, but I am,
- 2:53obviously, very, very, very happy to
- 2:55have managed to meet this goal.
- 2:57I knew perfectly well that I was
- 2:59prepared for it, because I followed the
- 3:01training and was mega focused.
- 3:04And one thing that really makes me happy
- 3:06is that, despite everything that came up
- 3:08, all the plans, all the trips,
- 3:10everything that could have completely
- 3:12disrupted my schedule and kept me from
- 3:15completing my training, it all happened
- 3:17and I still managed to do it.
- 3:21So, more than just running under 2 hours
- 3:22, more than achieving that goal,
- 3:24yesterday was just about running and
- 3:26going to get the medal, because
- 3:27everything else, all the preparation I
- 3:29did, had already been the great victory
- 3:31of this entire half-marathon training
- 3:33cycle.
- 3:35So, I am obviously very happy because
- 3:38it's a pace that was unthinkable for me
- 3:40a year ago, to think that I would be
- 3:43running a half under 5:40, which for me
- 3:45is super fast.
- 3:47Okay, I'm not really used to. these
- 3:49speeds. So, feeling comfortable at that
- 3:52speed, feeling that I was strong the
- 3:55whole race, made me feel really
- 3:57confident in myself and really strong
- 3:59and truly capable of anything, because
- 4:02this is about so much more than just
- 4:05running.
- 4:06I'm always saying this, running brings
- 4:08this to me, but I'm sure you also have
- 4:10other things in your life that bring you
- 4:13that feeling, that uplift you and give
- 4:15you that confidence.
- 4:17And for me, it's totally running. It’s
- 4:19not wanting to show up and doing it
- 4:21anyway, and managing to finish a tough
- 4:23workout.
- 4:25And it's showing up on race day, knowing
- 4:26that I'm going to suffer and that it's
- 4:28going to be super difficult, but that I
- 4:29will reach the end and I will manage to
- 4:31meet that goal.
- 4:32And then in the end, I feel like I am
- 4:34capable of anything. The feeling of
- 4:36reaching the end of a race like this and
- 4:38an effort like this, the feeling of
- 4:40crossing the finish line is inexplicable
- 4:43.
- 4:44It’s something that, I, look, I put a
- 4:46lot of expectations on this day, because
- 4:49a year ago in Cardiff, I’d say it was my
- 4:51favorite day of the year, last year. Uh
- 4:54, and it was, the preparation cycle for
- 4:56the half-marathon last year was also one
- 4:58of my favorite periods, and I put a lot
- 5:00of pressure on myself.
- 5:02Uh, and it was also a super peak of
- 5:04happiness, uh, that I hadn’t felt in a
- 5:06long time, that running brings me, but
- 5:08that these challenges and pushing
- 5:10ourselves to the limit also bring us.
- 5:14But on the other hand, it also left me
- 5:16thinking that it was much less of a "
- 5:18high" than it was a year ago.
- 5:20And why? I feel that when I started
- 5:23making this change in my life and
- 5:26wanting to enter the world of sports,
- 5:28losing weight, focusing on nutrition,
- 5:31focusing on health, therapy, wanting to
- 5:34be healthy and stable, seeking that
- 5:37stability.
- 5:39When you're in that slightly unstable
- 5:40phase, it's normal for everything that's
- 5:42a peak of happiness to be a giant high,
- 5:44and the low just the same.
- 5:46Even smaller things can happen, but
- 5:48they’ll bring you down even further. And
- 5:50small things will also bring an absurdly
- 5:52high peak of happiness.
- 5:54And it's normal for you to have those
- 5:56peaks a bit more.
- 5:58And I feel I’m in such a more stable
- 6:00phase in my life now that that doesn’t
- 6:02happen, meaning, yesterday's race didn't
- 6:05bring me that absurd peak it brought me
- 6:07a year ago.
- 6:09But I’m okay with that, because I think
- 6:12it’s part of us starting out in, in a
- 6:14phase really full of peaks, and then we
- 6:17...it slows down until we feel we have
- 6:19those peaks and. that yesterday did
- 6:21effectively bring me a lot of happiness
- 6:24, but at the same time it no longer
- 6:26brings me that giant high, but it’s also
- 6:28not bringing me that "blues" I felt
- 6:30after the Cardiff half. Do you know what
- 6:32I mean?
- 6:33In other words, a year ago I felt a
- 6:35giant peak of happiness, but the day
- 6:37after, I remember that week after I
- 6:39really felt that thing that people call
- 6:41the post-half-marathon blues, post-race
- 6:43, post-marathon.
- 6:45And I felt that, I felt that slight
- 6:47depression of "I trained so hard, and
- 6:49now what’s next?"
- 6:51I need the next one. It’s easy to draw a
- 6:54parallel to many things in our lives:
- 6:56how we are constantly fighting to get
- 6:58that position, we get that position,
- 7:00that role, and we have that peak of
- 7:02happiness on the day we get the news.
- 7:04But then you come down from that peak
- 7:05and what follows is a downward slope,
- 7:07because the rest of your life isn't
- 7:09going that well either.
- 7:11So, you’re just pinning your happiness
- 7:14on that one goal, that shiny object that
- 7:18, in the end, won't fulfill you the way
- 7:21you expected, because it’s just one day
- 7:25, just a moment, a sporadic moment.
- 7:29And I feel that all the work I’ve been
- 7:31doing has led me to a point where,
- 7:33nowadays, I perhaps don't feel that high
- 7:36as much.
- 7:37But I’m also doing great today, I’m
- 7:40balanced.
- 7:42I no longer get those post-half-marathon
- 7:44blues; I don’t feel like the rug has
- 7:46been pulled out from under me and I
- 7:48suddenly need another goal, like: "Oh my
- 7:50God, let me sit down and decide if I’ll
- 7:52do a marathon, or set a target time for
- 7:54my next half." I finished my Cardiff
- 7:56half and it was immediately like: "Okay
- 7:58, now I want to break 2 hours and I’m
- 8:00going to sign up for this and sign up
- 8:02for that."
- 8:03And it was immediate; it’s normal for
- 8:05this to happen, for our endorphins to be
- 8:06sky-high and for us to want more.
- 8:09And I do want more; I want to keep
- 8:11running, I want to run faster, and I
- 8:13want to do more, but I no longer have
- 8:14that feeling of, "Hey, it’s all over,
- 8:16now what am I going to do with my life?
- 8:18"
- 8:19I don't need more goals just to have
- 8:21something to hold onto. You know what I
- 8:23mean? I don’t need that anymore, that
- 8:25something to hold onto, because I feel
- 8:27more stable. That's it.
- 8:29And that makes me happy too; at least
- 8:31it's a reflection I've been having, and
- 8:33I think it makes sense—at least in my
- 8:34head—and looking back at how I was
- 8:36feeling a year ago, I think it makes
- 8:38sense to explain it this way.
- 8:40I am obviously a very rational person,
- 8:42and I really like to analyze things,
- 8:44whether it's my own head or how I was
- 8:46feeling.
- 8:47During the race, I thought about it
- 8:49several times; I remembered the feeling
- 8:51of running the Cardiff half-marathon,
- 8:53and I thought about it over and over.
- 8:57I perfectly remember the stupidity I
- 8:59pulled in Cardiff, starting super fast
- 9:01and then crashing at the 10km mark, and
- 9:03I was running with headphones, alone
- 9:05with my music, battling my own head, and
- 9:07I remember that from 10km on, it was
- 9:09very, very, very painful.
- 9:11Everything hurt, my legs were aching, I
- 9:13wanted to stop at every moment.
- 9:15From 10 km onwards, I didn't enjoy the
- 9:18race at all, it was painful.
- 9:21That's why the feeling of reward at the
- 9:24end is even greater, because I know I
- 9:26suffered so much, so much, and that I
- 9:29was capable.
- 9:31And yesterday, it was an incredible
- 9:33feeling to feel light, I felt strong, I
- 9:36felt that I was running at a pace that
- 9:38is uncomfortable for me, but I loved the
- 9:41race and I enjoyed it and I don't feel
- 9:44like I suffered that much.
- 9:46And it's, man, it's incredible to feel
- 9:49this, honestly. That's why it makes me
- 9:51want even more, to want to run even
- 9:53faster, because I feel I'm in a running
- 9:55flow that makes me really comfortable
- 9:57and I managed to enjoy almost the whole
- 9:59race.
- 10:00The last 4 km or so were tough and I was
- 10:02already thinking, I want this to end, I
- 10:05want this to be over, but I ran the
- 10:07whole race without headphones, which is
- 10:09something I also thought I wouldn't be
- 10:11able to do.
- 10:13I didn't take music. Actually, I took
- 10:15the headphones for comfort in case I
- 10:17felt like it, and if I was really
- 10:18breaking down, I would grab them.
- 10:22They were there in my pocket, but I
- 10:23didn't use them and I was able to be
- 10:25really involved in the race, enjoying it
- 10:26, paying attention to the people, paying
- 10:28attention to the course and it was
- 10:30spectacular.
- 10:31And I also took a friend with me, Tiago
- 10:33came with me the whole time, which
- 10:35helped a lot. It makes a big difference
- 10:37to have company, to have someone there
- 10:39pushing us.
- 10:41And especially, in the initial phase, in
- 10:43the first 16, 17 km, when I was super
- 10:45fresh, super comfortable, it's good to
- 10:47have someone there, not to talk, because
- 10:49I can't talk at that pace, because I'd
- 10:50waste immense energy, but I was locked
- 10:52into my thing.
- 10:54But having someone by my side, we always
- 10:57know we have company there. And then
- 10:59from those kilometers on when I started
- 11:01to break down, that's when it made all
- 11:03the difference, because it's like, I
- 11:04know that if I stop, I have someone
- 11:06there who will push me, so that won't
- 11:07happen. And at the same time having
- 11:09someone there always, like, come on, go
- 11:11, go, go, don't give up. Like a little
- 11:13pep talk in my ear makes a real
- 11:15difference. And I had never done a race
- 11:18like this, I think all the races I've
- 11:20done until now were 100%alone. So, it
- 11:22was really the first time I had company
- 11:24and it really makes a difference for
- 11:27your head.
- 11:28So, if you have challenges like this and
- 11:30are going to races or any other events,
- 11:32I highly recommend you bring someone
- 11:34along.
- 11:36Even yesterday, we were all running at
- 11:38different paces, but we were all in
- 11:40little pairs.
- 11:42There were literally four pairs of two,
- 11:44no one ran alone, and it was like some
- 11:46pushing others, and there's always
- 11:47someone who runs faster pushing the
- 11:49person who is trying to get a personal
- 11:51best.
- 11:52Which is really cool, because you're
- 11:54there with someone who knows the goal,
- 11:56you're both controlling, like, the speed
- 11:58, both fighting for the same thing, and
- 12:00it's much easier, it ends up helping a
- 12:03lot.
- 12:03So, that was also something new about
- 12:05this race, and for me, it really made
- 12:07all the difference. Well, I'm just going
- 12:09to drink a little bit of water here
- 12:12with electrolytes.
- 12:15I'm feeling a bit. I'm okay, physically
- 12:18, like, my body, I don't have many aches
- 12:21.
- 12:22I just got a little sore, like, here in
- 12:26my hips, but I'm fine.
- 12:28It's just that I'm, I think it's
- 12:30dehydration. I didn't drink much water
- 12:32yesterday, that was a mistake. And today
- 12:34I hadn't had any yet either, so I'm here
- 12:36in the studio and I'm feeling a bit like
- 12:38I'm seeing stars. And I think it's
- 12:39without a doubt a lack of water. And
- 12:41replenishing salts also helps a lot. I
- 12:43think I always undervalued it a bit and
- 12:45, back at the Cardiff half marathon,
- 12:48like, I was also just entering the
- 12:50running world, I didn't quite understand
- 12:52it and I always kept undervaluing the
- 12:54importance of food, water, electrolytes
- 12:56, all of that, even on a functional
- 12:58level for better performance and how
- 13:00it's directly related to the result
- 13:02you'll get, man, but I felt a very big
- 13:05difference. This time, like, in terms of
- 13:07gels, I behaved super well. I drank tons
- 13:09of electrolytes and tons of water before
- 13:11and now I'm feeling, I'm feeling like
- 13:13I'm crashing. And I think it's also a
- 13:15bit of a lack of water. It's like, it's
- 13:17the difference that hydration and
- 13:19nutrition make in this whole process.
- 13:21It's shocking. And we are going to take
- 13:24a break in today's episode to tell you
- 13:26about our sponsor, which is About.
- 13:29I've already told you about this
- 13:31platform a few times, and we are now in
- 13:33the phase of renovating the wardrobe and
- 13:35closet for autumn.
- 13:37And it couldn't make more sense for them
- 13:38to come in here. What is About?
- 13:41A multi-brand platform, a site where you
- 13:43can find over 1500 brands of clothing,
- 13:45accessories, and everything else,
- 13:47including sportswear, which is also very
- 13:49relevant for this fall season.
- 13:53Because, finally, I don't know where
- 13:55you’re listening to this from, but here
- 13:57in Porto it’s officially fall; it's
- 13:58raining, it's cold, and we’re running in
- 14:01leggings and jackets.
- 14:02The days of leaving the house in a
- 14:04little top and shorts are definitely
- 14:07over.
- 14:07So, we’re in that phase of refreshing
- 14:10our wardrobes with cozy, warm sweaters,
- 14:12which feel amazing, and also updating
- 14:14our workout gear, because now we’ll need
- 14:17windbreakers and layers that we didn't
- 14:19need before.
- 14:20Therefore, at this stage, having
- 14:22platforms like this that have everything
- 14:24and then some really helps a lot. Even
- 14:26when it comes to sports, they have
- 14:28Adidas, Nike, and tons of different
- 14:30brands—over 1500, as I mentioned. So,
- 14:33they have many, many options, and also
- 14:35plenty of casual wear, obviously, for
- 14:38this autumn refresh. And I have a 20%
- 14:41discount code for About You with the
- 14:43code MARY20, which I’ll write here.
- 14:47I’ll also leave all the details about
- 14:49this discount code, the expiration date
- 14:51, and everything it includes in the
- 14:53description for you to check out.
- 14:57But it’s a great suggestion whether
- 14:59you’re in this phase or not, or if you
- 15:01just need something new for your sports
- 15:03wardrobe or whatever else you might need
- 15:05—they really have it all.
- 15:07It ends up helping a lot, mainly because
- 15:10we don't have to go to malls; we don't
- 15:12have to deal with that hassle, which,
- 15:14honestly, I prefer to skip. I much
- 15:16prefer sitting on my sofa, opening my
- 15:18computer, and choosing from the comfort
- 15:19of my own home.
- 15:21So, you pick everything out, have it
- 15:23delivered, try it on at home in the
- 15:25warmth, and we can also exchange or
- 15:27return items for free, which turns out
- 15:29to be a huge advantage.
- 15:32And they also have some payment
- 15:33advantages, whether it’s cash on
- 15:35delivery or payment methods like Klarna
- 15:37, which lets you pay after 30 days or in
- 15:39three installments, which really helps
- 15:41with budgeting, especially now towards
- 15:43the end of the year.
- 15:45I think it helps a lot.
- 15:46So, here is my suggestion: if you are in
- 15:49this phase and need anything, take a
- 15:51look, because I really think you’ll find
- 15:53options for literally everything.
- 15:57And let’s get back to the episode.
- 16:00And, besides running with company having
- 16:03helped a lot, I think that one thing,
- 16:05compared to when I first started running
- 16:08, one thing that, that makes me really
- 16:10happy and helps me a lot, is feeling
- 16:12that I also have a group and that people
- 16:15are entering my life who understand me
- 16:18really well.
- 16:19And I feel that having entered, started
- 16:22in running and in the sports world, gave
- 16:24me a range of people who entered, like,
- 16:27an avalanche of people who came into my
- 16:29life.
- 16:30And feeling like we're in our element is
- 16:33a spectacular thing. I have tons of
- 16:36friends who are zero into the sports
- 16:38world, tons of friends I'm constantly
- 16:40with, who I plan so much with, who are
- 16:42my lifelong friends, those friends who
- 16:45are like family, the ones I went to
- 16:47Dublin with, my college friends too, who
- 16:49aren't in that world at all.
- 16:52But then I also have these friendships
- 16:54related to the sports world that really
- 16:57understand my mindset of wanting to eat
- 16:59well, my mindset that this is a huge
- 17:01goal, that this is a huge struggle.
- 17:05This, this sports and wellness and
- 17:07health mindset is something that, when
- 17:09you find people who think the same way,
- 17:12I think there's a connection there
- 17:14that's hard to explain and you feel like
- 17:16you can really be yourself, in showing
- 17:19that side of you that you sometimes keep
- 17:21hidden from those who don't understand
- 17:24it as well.
- 17:25You know what I mean?
- 17:27And this weekend was also very good in
- 17:29that sense, because I feel that
- 17:31traveling with friends who also get that
- 17:34side and also like the same things
- 17:36really makes all the difference, whether
- 17:38we're talking about sports or other
- 17:40completely different areas.
- 17:43I think being in a group, like, for
- 17:45example, when I host those friendstorm
- 17:47dinners where I get friends together, I
- 17:49also feel exactly the same thing when it
- 17:51comes to, for example, my work, content
- 17:53creation, working for myself, I also
- 17:55feel identified.
- 17:57So, looking for circles of people and
- 18:00having those people to surround
- 18:02ourselves with from these various areas
- 18:05, various facets of ours, helps a lot
- 18:07and made this weekend very happy,
- 18:10because I was surrounded by people who
- 18:13feel and think and understand exactly
- 18:15what I feel when it comes to my health,
- 18:18when it comes to my relationship with
- 18:21sports and my relationship with food too
- 18:24.
- 18:25And this running and sports thing is not
- 18:27just a hobby.
- 18:29And it's always been that way, for me it
- 18:31was never just a hobby.
- 18:33And it's not just a way for me to unwind
- 18:35, it's not just a way for me to have fun
- 18:37and have a goal, it's
- 18:40it's a lifestyle that I am choosing,
- 18:43prioritizing this in my life to such an
- 18:46extent that it becomes a central piece,
- 18:49that determines my mood, determines the
- 18:52confidence I have in myself, the
- 18:55self-esteem I have, which I then carry
- 18:58over into all areas of my life and I
- 19:01feel I am a better version of myself
- 19:03when I feel aligned in all these parts
- 19:06of me.
- 19:07And that is also why I love sharing
- 19:10about this and talking about running and
- 19:13talking about sports in this way,
- 19:15because for me it was truly something
- 19:18that saved me and has been saving me
- 19:21every day, and ended up being my little
- 19:24light at the end of the tunnel during a
- 19:26phase when I was more lost.
- 19:29And I think these milestones and these
- 19:31little achievements also deserve to be
- 19:34celebrated and should be celebrated
- 19:36because they are part of a whole journey
- 19:38where we often forget where we started.
- 19:42And that's why I think, I often think,
- 19:44is running, is this just a phase for me
- 19:47?
- 19:48I'm so prone to hyperfocus, so prone to
- 19:50being really turned toward one thing,
- 19:51suddenly I start reading and I'm reading
- 19:53seven books in a week. Could this just
- 19:56be a hyperfocus of mine? I believe that
- 19:59maybe running won't be my thing forever
- 20:02; it will probably always be changing.
- 20:06But I think sports, and the way I look
- 20:09at physical exercise and my health, I
- 20:11don't think at all that it's a phase and
- 20:14I hope it isn't, because it really
- 20:16brings a lot of happiness on every level
- 20:19.
- 20:20And a balance that, honestly, I haven't
- 20:23found anything else in my life that
- 20:25regulates me so well. And let's move on
- 20:28to the thorn.
- 20:29So, all this is wonderful and life is
- 20:32beautiful and we love our life and
- 20:34sports are incredible and we run a sub-
- 20:362-hour half marathon.
- 20:38Hmm. And now what is the thorn?
- 20:43I feel like I have, I am a naturally
- 20:46anxious person, but I feel like lately I
- 20:49have been even more so.
- 20:53And it's hard for me to say "I am
- 20:54anxious," because I know we shouldn't
- 20:56say that, it's like, no, I have anxiety
- 20:57, I am not anxious, but I feel like I am
- 20:59an anxious person, honestly.
- 21:01I feel like this is something that has
- 21:02been with me for a long time.
- 21:05I’m an anxious person in many parts of
- 21:07my life and lately, I don't know why,
- 21:09but I feel even more anxious.
- 21:14And if I look at my life, like,
- 21:15everything is fine, so why am I getting
- 21:18stressed over things that don't even
- 21:20make sense?
- 21:21Everything is really kind of aligned. I
- 21:23am, I feel like I’m in such a good phase
- 21:25on every level. I’m loving my work,
- 21:28which was something that really, I don’t
- 21:30know, I spoke so many times here on the
- 21:32podcast about it, I was really
- 21:34demotivated. The last year I was super
- 21:36demotivated with everything. I didn't, I
- 21:39didn't feel like, eh, showing up on
- 21:40social media. I was already, like, I
- 21:42didn't feel like talking on the podcast
- 21:45.
- 21:45I had, I had phases, even regarding work
- 21:47, where I was really demotivated and
- 21:49questioning everything and thinking: "
- 21:50What am I going to do with my life?"
- 21:52, like, why don't I want to do social
- 21:54media anymore, I don't want to do this
- 21:55anymore, I don't like this. I was really
- 21:57in a loop, you know?
- 21:59And because I wasn't aligned with what I
- 22:02was doing and I was really overthinking
- 22:04everything.
- 22:06And I'm in a phase where I'm really
- 22:08super motivated with my work.
- 22:10I don't feel like it's an avalanche of
- 22:13things that I can't handle.
- 22:17I’m doing super well with running, I’m
- 22:19mega happy with my friendships, with
- 22:21everything. Everything is mega aligned
- 22:24and, at the same time, I feel more
- 22:26anxious than ever. And I can’t really
- 22:28explain this, where this comes from, to
- 22:30the point of having insomnia, not being
- 22:33able to sleep well.
- 22:36Of course, I just had an exam and that
- 22:37was also a reason for me to be a little
- 22:38more anxious, but it’s not just that.
- 22:41I’ve been really stressed and it seems
- 22:44that even small things and organizing my
- 22:46schedule and everything, like, I get
- 22:48into this loop of getting mega mega
- 22:50anxious over things that don't make
- 22:52sense and I can't explain where this
- 22:54anxiety comes from.
- 22:57At the same time, I try to control it
- 22:58and try to find tools so I don't feel
- 23:00like this in my day-to-day, and, and try
- 23:02to manage to sleep anyway, and find a
- 23:04way to get around this and be more
- 23:05organized, and those tips that we share
- 23:07here on the podcast of, literally,
- 23:08sitting down, looking at my schedule,
- 23:10organizing everything.
- 23:14But I feel it's partly because I want to
- 23:17be everywhere and also want to please
- 23:19everyone, and have everyone super happy
- 23:22and never say no, which is still
- 23:25difficult.
- 23:26Although I feel I’m doing much better,
- 23:29it's hard, and it ends up always giving
- 23:31me a little bit of guilt: "I want to be
- 23:33here, but I also want to be there, and I
- 23:36want to accept this trip, and I want to
- 23:38be doing this, and I also want to be
- 23:40with that person, with family," and that
- 23:42then creates a cloud in my head that, in
- 23:45my day-to-day life, like, affects me in
- 23:47everything.
- 23:48And I think I’m a person who doesn't
- 23:50feel like I let life go on autopilot,
- 23:52you know?
- 23:55And getting into that thing where
- 23:56everything is happening and, man, the
- 23:58ball is rolling and there's no time, it
- 24:00doesn't give me space to stop and think
- 24:01, to evaluate if I feel like I'm good
- 24:03here, good there, if I like this, if I
- 24:05like that, if I'm following the right
- 24:06path.
- 24:08I feel like sometimes I’m a quite
- 24:10conscious person and that, and the fact
- 24:12that I sit down and write and even use
- 24:15the podcast for thoughts and to analyze
- 24:17things. I’m quite rational about that,
- 24:20and going to therapy and talking too—I
- 24:22talk a lot with my friends and I debate
- 24:25my things a lot and I ponder a lot and
- 24:27rationalize a lot. Uh, I think I don't
- 24:29have a tendency for that.
- 24:32However, in the last few months, a lot
- 24:34has been changing in my life, and I feel
- 24:36that when you are in a good phase and
- 24:38are attracting only good things, because
- 24:40you are well, that is, you are happy,
- 24:42you are overflowing with that happiness
- 24:44, then it's normal that more things that
- 24:46are aligned with you also come: more
- 24:48work opportunities, more travel
- 24:50invitations, more of this, more of that
- 24:52, more things happening that.
- 24:56And you, being on that positive
- 24:58frequency, will attract more of that and
- 25:00will want to, will be more responsive to
- 25:02that, which then ends up leaving me full
- 25:04of things, and full of things that are
- 25:06cool and dynamic and fun and that I love
- 25:08and that I want.
- 25:11But then it's an avalanche of things
- 25:13that you can't really manage: this whole
- 25:15thing of "I want to be here, but I also
- 25:17want to be there."
- 25:20And suddenly I’ve accepted too many
- 25:22things and you start putting
- 25:24immeasurable pressure on yourself, which
- 25:26then results, perhaps, in this constant
- 25:28feeling of "I'm not able to be
- 25:30everywhere, because I'm here, but I'm
- 25:32not 100%here, because I feel like I'm
- 25:35failing over there."
- 25:38And this then generates, obviously,
- 25:39constant anxiety because it’s a pressure
- 25:41that we keep putting on ourselves.
- 25:44And perhaps it’s poor management, or a
- 25:47type of management I need to do better
- 25:50on my part, to try to say no more often
- 25:52, to try to think more about Future
- 25:55Mariana.
- 25:56Because we often end up making these
- 25:58hot-headed decisions: "I want this
- 26:00because it’s cool and it just came up,
- 26:02and I have to say yes right now."
- 26:05And then, in two weeks, Future Mariana
- 26:07has to deal with the fact that she won't
- 26:08be able to be there, won't be able to do
- 26:10that thing, and maybe she’ll be stressed
- 26:11with work because she isn't able to
- 26:13fulfill everything she wanted to.
- 26:15And it's about thinking, having a little
- 26:17bit more of this consciousness to think
- 26:18. That’s why I say, I feel I’m not much
- 26:20for letting things slide and being on
- 26:22autopilot without having this awareness
- 26:24.
- 26:25I think I do this conscious exercise a
- 26:27lot, but at the same time, it’s been a
- 26:29phase that’s hard for me to manage,
- 26:31because it’s so much, so much changing,
- 26:34so much happening, and many emotional
- 26:36changes too that are difficult for me to
- 26:39manage day-to-day, and maybe my anxiety
- 26:41might stem a little from that.
- 26:44And meanwhile, this week I wanted to
- 26:46tell you that I did something very cool
- 26:47that I had been meaning to do for a long
- 26:49time and that goes a bit along these
- 26:51lines, this reflection on why this also
- 26:53happens to me and that justifies a lot
- 26:55of things.
- 26:57I’m always trying to know myself better
- 26:59, and any type of tool that allows for
- 27:00that, like, I love it.
- 27:02They are other layers of me; I think
- 27:04it’s really important for us to have
- 27:06this hunger to discover more things
- 27:08about ourselves, whether it’s astrology
- 27:11or whatever.
- 27:13And this week I had a Human Design
- 27:15consultation, which I had wanted to do
- 27:17for a long time.
- 27:20And I did it on the recommendation of my
- 27:22friend Monica, who sometimes sits here
- 27:24on the podcast, who is Matilde.
- 27:27She has a page called HD Lab, Human
- 27:30Design Lab, and she basically gave me a
- 27:33consultation where she explained what it
- 27:36is, that is, Human Design.
- 27:39For those who don't know, I already did
- 27:41an episode about this with Ana Costa
- 27:42Soares, which is super useful and very
- 27:44informative on the topic.
- 27:46So, if you don't know it, I recommend
- 27:49listening, but it's a tool, you know,
- 27:52it's for self-knowledge that explains
- 27:54why we are the way we are, why we should
- 27:57act in a certain way, combining
- 27:59astrology, science, and a lot of things
- 28:02, and it makes a lot of sense.
- 28:06Basically, it's created based on the
- 28:08time and place we were born, etc.;it's a
- 28:11kind of—it's almost like a birth chart,
- 28:13but for Human Design, like, it's a
- 28:15matrix.
- 28:17You are a specific type, there are four
- 28:20types, and each one of us is one of them
- 28:22. I am a projector. But within being a
- 28:26projector, I have a matrix, a scheme, a
- 28:29Human Design chart that explains who I
- 28:33am and how I should act.
- 28:37In other words, the chart—I might be
- 28:39saying something completely wrong, but I
- 28:40think a birth chart is much more about
- 28:44forecasting what is going to happen in
- 28:46the future as well.
- 28:48It explains who you are, but it's more
- 28:50about prediction, whereas Human Design
- 28:52is 100%about self-knowledge, how you are
- 28:55, and how you should act to be more
- 28:57aligned with yourself.
- 29:01So, I am a projector, and one of the big
- 29:03mantras for a projector is to accept the
- 29:06invitation, not to chase, not to
- 29:09initiate, but if you feel an opening,
- 29:12then yes, but not to be the one
- 29:14proactively going after things.
- 29:18Which for me is super weird, because I'm
- 29:20that person who always thought: "I want
- 29:22this, I will make it happen," especially
- 29:24professionally.
- 29:26I've always had a bit of this energy of
- 29:27, you know, going after things.
- 29:30But, analyzing my life, the truth is
- 29:32that everything that was meant to be,
- 29:34that was meant to be mine, and that made
- 29:36sense, were things that came to me
- 29:39because I was invited, not because I
- 29:41went after them.
- 29:43And a projector has to respect this rule
- 29:45a little bit, let's put it that way.
- 29:48But beyond that, beyond explaining to me
- 29:50, uh, what a projector is, she also
- 29:53explained several parts of my chart, my
- 29:55Human Design matrix, and justified
- 29:57several things I feel, uh, like, for
- 29:59example, the fact that I’ve always felt
- 30:02much more comfortable, my whole life,
- 30:04I’ve felt much more comfortable in
- 30:06one-on-one conversations than in groups
- 30:09.
- 30:10I've always been like this. And that is
- 30:11justified in the Human Design matrix. It
- 30:13explains why. There is a lot of specific
- 30:16stuff she explained that really made
- 30:18sense to me. OK, this is me, it makes
- 30:20sense.
- 30:21And this ends up being a map that guides
- 30:24you to make decisions in your life that
- 30:26are more aligned with you.
- 30:29One thing she told me that I also came
- 30:31to realize over time, and that makes
- 30:33perfect sense to me, is the fact that I
- 30:35am a projector: it tells me I should
- 30:37produce in quality and not in quantity.
- 30:41I shouldn't get into projects that
- 30:44require an absurd amount of things,
- 30:46where I'm always producing and don't
- 30:49have space to produce other quality
- 30:51things.
- 30:53In other words, I am a person who likes
- 30:55to do a lot at the same time and I don't
- 30:57like the trap of having one specific
- 30:58thing where I have to be constantly
- 31:00producing in quantity.
- 31:02For example, if I were doing social
- 31:04media management right now, it’s
- 31:06something that for other clients is very
- 31:09, very pragmatic, very practical, very
- 31:11quantity-driven, you have to define a
- 31:13calendar, produce immense content, tons
- 31:16of posts for the client.
- 31:18It is something very methodical and
- 31:19about doing the same thing over and over
- 31:21.
- 31:23It’s something that, for my type of
- 31:25person, doesn't work and I need to have
- 31:27space to, despite doing things
- 31:29consistently, have space to explore
- 31:31other things and to produce other
- 31:33quality work, because otherwise, it will
- 31:36just result in quantity and not, and at
- 31:38the expense of, the quality of the
- 31:40projects.
- 31:42And she justifies this because she says
- 31:44that my energy, uh, over time is not
- 31:47constant.
- 31:48So, for me to be able to produce in
- 31:50quality, I have to choose the right
- 31:53times to do it and that not all the time
- 31:55am I going to be super up for it.
- 31:59And it makes sense to me because I also
- 32:01jump from project to project and from
- 32:03focus to focus in my life, from
- 32:05hyper-focus to hyper-focus, because
- 32:07that’s where my energy is directed, so
- 32:09it makes sense for me to pay attention
- 32:11to that and let myself follow what I’m
- 32:13feeling.
- 32:14Then she says that I have an undefined
- 32:17sacral center. What does this mean? That
- 32:19I’m not made to be producing all the
- 32:21time.
- 32:22I’m not made to always be at that speed
- 32:24of constantly making things happen. And
- 32:27that the biggest challenge for me is
- 32:28knowing when to stop and not trying to
- 32:30keep up with everyone else's pace.
- 32:32In other words, if I see someone who is
- 32:35always 100%focused on running and is
- 32:36always giving it their all all year
- 32:38round, super, super, super focused on it
- 32:40, and super motivated.
- 32:42I can't use that as a benchmark because
- 32:45I’m going to have phases where I won't
- 32:47feel like it, and I have to respect that
- 32:49.
- 32:50And according to her, my biggest
- 32:52difficulty is being able to understand
- 32:54and choose my battles and the phases
- 32:56where I want to focus on certain things
- 32:58. And that’s perfectly fine.
- 33:00And I often feel that pressure, that
- 33:02comparison of looking to the side,
- 33:04whether it's running, or "oh, she’s
- 33:06reading so much," or "he’s cooking so
- 33:08much."
- 33:09I would love to cook a lot too, but I
- 33:10don't. So, choosing my battles and my
- 33:12phases: I’ll have a phase where I’ll be
- 33:14super into it, and I should accept that
- 33:16phase and enjoy it, and then I’ll have
- 33:18another phase where I’ll be completely
- 33:19focused on something else, on the other
- 33:21side. And that’s what it’s about.
- 33:23And so, it helps justify things that I
- 33:26feel myself and that often leave me
- 33:28frustrated because I can't be that super
- 33:31consistent person who is always focused
- 33:33on the same areas of life.
- 33:37I can't do it, I have phases, I have
- 33:39phases where I can't stop reading about
- 33:41personal finance and I’m focused on that
- 33:43, working on my financial goals, and I
- 33:45have tunnel vision.
- 33:46Then there’s another phase where the
- 33:48tunnel vision is for running, another
- 33:49phase where it’s for reading. And that’s
- 33:52how it is, accepting that it is this way
- 33:54and realizing that we are not all the
- 33:56same. And I think this really helps to
- 33:57understand that. We are not all the same
- 34:00, we don't all follow the same path, and
- 34:02we don't all have to deal with things in
- 34:04the same way.
- 34:06So, the more you know how you are, the
- 34:08better it is for you to justify your
- 34:09behaviors and align your life based on
- 34:11that, and not put so much pressure on
- 34:13yourself for following a certain path
- 34:14that wasn't actually yours.
- 34:17One of her recommendations has to do
- 34:19with my emotional authority, which is to
- 34:21sleep on decisions.
- 34:23It’s to never decide on things in my
- 34:26life during an emotional high or low,
- 34:29and that being 80%sure is enough.
- 34:32I mean, imagine I’m on a high right now
- 34:34, I'm super pumped because I just
- 34:35finished my half marathon. Imagine if I
- 34:38got home now and signed up to buy a
- 34:40registration for a full marathon.
- 34:43That is, me making an emotional decision
- 34:45based on a high peak or a low peak—I’m
- 34:47demotivated with my life, I’m sad, I’m
- 34:50this or that—and buying a flight to go
- 34:52away for six months.
- 34:55No, this cannot happen. Maybe for other
- 34:57people it makes sense. For me, according
- 35:00to her, I can't do this. I have to sleep
- 35:03on the matter because I am a naturally
- 35:05impulsive person with these things.
- 35:08So, sometimes, I end up making decisions
- 35:10that maybe aren't as right and as
- 35:11aligned as they would be if I thought
- 35:13about it for three days.
- 35:16And, therefore, it’s a bit more about
- 35:18letting things settle, and maybe that
- 35:20desire to run a marathon just because I
- 35:22want a next goal and you're hitting it
- 35:24with dopamine through the roof,
- 35:26endorphins at their max.
- 35:28Maybe in three days I’ll see things more
- 35:31rationally. Because, even though I’m a
- 35:34rational person, I have this very
- 35:35emotional side, very much about making
- 35:37decisions tied to the emotional part,
- 35:39and this is what sometimes ends up
- 35:41affecting me and leading me to make
- 35:43decisions that, maybe, weren't quite
- 35:45what I wanted.
- 35:46Then she says I have a defined mind and
- 35:49head in my map, which is the channel of
- 35:52clarity, and that my head, according to
- 35:54her, was made to inspire others and not
- 35:57to solve my own life.
- 36:00And this justifies my anxiety, which is
- 36:03often when I turn inward and try to
- 36:05overanalyze my life and overthink and
- 36:08rationalize everything, literally
- 36:10everything, trying to have logical and
- 36:13clear reasoning for everything in my
- 36:15life, really bringing everything that is
- 36:18emotional into the rational; that's when
- 36:20everything goes wrong.
- 36:24And it's when I turn inward, it
- 36:26generates a lot of anxiety in me and
- 36:28that then results in what I was talking
- 36:30about as my thorn.
- 36:33So, what she says is that all this
- 36:35rationalization and all this analysis
- 36:38and everything I do, mentally, this
- 36:40shift from emotional to rational, is
- 36:42something I need to do for others; I
- 36:44need to use that capacity for others, to
- 36:47help them, to inspire them, but not to
- 36:49rationalize everything in my own life.
- 36:53In other words, to let life flow a bit,
- 36:55because I’m so stressed and so organized
- 36:58and such a Virgo about some things that
- 37:01I end up hurting and limiting myself
- 37:03because I want to rationalize everything
- 37:06and I overthink it, you know?
- 37:08I don’t let life flow enough.
- 37:11So, it all ends up backfiring, and
- 37:13instead of helping me, trying to analyze
- 37:15everything ends up hurting me because
- 37:18I’m overthinking and it’s giving me
- 37:20anxiety over things that maybe weren't
- 37:22even that big of a deal, you know?
- 37:25So, the lesson is a bit like that. It's
- 37:28using, for example, this podcast: it
- 37:30makes perfect sense for me to use this
- 37:32insight to—I’m here rationalizing things
- 37:34, I’m here analyzing thoughts, I’m
- 37:37deconstructing a bit of what’s going on
- 37:39in my head, but it ends here.
- 37:41Trying not to take it literally for
- 37:44everything I do in my life and not
- 37:46trying to analyze every type of behavior
- 37:48and decision and thing that’s happening
- 37:51, because then it ends up limiting me
- 37:53from actually living.
- 37:56Then the definition is broken where I
- 37:58feel complete through my connection with
- 38:00others.
- 38:03She even gave me the tip to go work from
- 38:05cafés, because she knows that I work,
- 38:08well, freelance, so I end up working
- 38:10alone a lot.
- 38:12And she gave me the tip to get out of
- 38:14the house and be surrounded by people
- 38:16working somewhere, because just the fact
- 38:19that I’m around people will help me feel
- 38:21more inspired and more motivated.
- 38:24And this is literally so real, because I
- 38:27feel that when I go to work from cafés,
- 38:29even not knowing anyone, while being
- 38:30alone, I always feel that my mood, like
- 38:32, improves immensely.
- 38:36This means working from cafés, running
- 38:37with others, meeting new people,
- 38:39scheduling coffees here and there,
- 38:40putting myself in environments that are
- 38:42uncomfortable for me, going to run clubs
- 38:44.
- 38:46It’s everything that I talk about here
- 38:48so often, that does me so much good, it
- 38:50justifies that, it justifies it a bit,
- 38:52in other words, feeling complete by
- 38:54being connected to other people who
- 38:56think the same way, who challenge me or
- 38:58make me see things differently, and I
- 39:00really need that.
- 39:03And that I can also find those little
- 39:06things in my day-to-day and bring that
- 39:08into my work, into my life, into my
- 39:10routine, so that I feel that, even day
- 39:13to day, even when working alone, I’m
- 39:15sort of connected to the world. Do you
- 39:18see what I mean?
- 39:19So, I actually ended up finishing the
- 39:22call with her and I really want to set,
- 39:24like, days to leave the house and go
- 39:27work from cafes, to do that kind of work
- 39:29outside the home, because I’m working
- 39:32alone so much and always stuck at home,
- 39:34always in my bubble, that sometimes I
- 39:37don't even realize how much that hurts
- 39:39me, because I’m really limited and, even
- 39:42mood-wise, it’s not good for me to spend
- 39:44a whole day where I don't see anyone,
- 39:48don't talk to anyone, no. It’s not good
- 39:50for me, I believe it’s not good for
- 39:52anyone, but it’s something I end up
- 39:53doing a lot because I’m often filming
- 39:55alone, doing everything by myself.
- 39:57So, leaving the house just to go work
- 39:59somewhere, is something I want to set as
- 40:01a goal for the next month and that I’m
- 40:03really going to try to implement, which
- 40:05was something I did a lot when I moved
- 40:07to Porto, because it’s that initial
- 40:09phase where you move to a city and you
- 40:11want to enjoy the city to the fullest,
- 40:12so you go to little cafes everywhere.
- 40:16But then you get into a routine and you
- 40:17kind of stop doing that a bit, because
- 40:19that initial excitement has passed.
- 40:22But it’s not just about discovering new
- 40:24cafes and getting to know Porto, it’s
- 40:25also because it’s something that is good
- 40:26for me, that I know does me good.
- 40:29Hmm, whether it’s that, or going to work
- 40:30at a coworking space, for example, that
- 40:32could also be an option. And she also
- 40:33talked about the community aspect and
- 40:35working in a team, which is super
- 40:37important to me.
- 40:39And although I don't have that much in
- 40:41my profession, I have a lot of people,
- 40:43many people, many teams around me who
- 40:44help me and who really make all the
- 40:46difference.
- 40:48Like, the simple fact that sometimes I
- 40:49have an idea, I don't really know what
- 40:51to do, or I have a specific episode and
- 40:52don't know what to do. All I need is a
- 40:54conversation with, I don't know, whoever
- 40:56records my podcast, or a chat with my
- 40:58agency, or friends who also work in the
- 41:00field, or anything like that, and it
- 41:02unlocks so much. So, I really, really
- 41:04need that. And she told me it was
- 41:06important for me to delegate and try not
- 41:09to do everything myself, and try to
- 41:11bring people into my world and my
- 41:13professional life. And it's something
- 41:15I've been doing, delegating more and
- 41:16more, even though it's hard for me.
- 41:19It's something that takes the load off
- 41:21me, allows me not to produce in quantity
- 41:24, but to produce more in quality, to be
- 41:26doing what makes the most sense for me
- 41:29to spend my time on; and it’s feeling
- 41:31like I always have someone there to
- 41:33bounce ideas off of, to debate with.
- 41:38For example, I have a girl, Carlota, who
- 41:40started working with me recently, who
- 41:41also came in a bit with that goal of
- 41:43helping me take the load off, but also
- 41:45feeling like I always have someone there
- 41:47to bounce ideas off of, to exchange
- 41:48thoughts, so I don't feel so alone in
- 41:50the process.
- 41:54So, in other words, at the end of the
- 41:57day, what we did with the Human Design
- 41:59analysis was to try to understand how I
- 42:02am, explain things, my behaviors, why I
- 42:05feel a certain way, and from there, mold
- 42:08your life accordingly, mold small things
- 42:11according to that so that things are
- 42:13more aligned.
- 42:15So, at this moment, what I’m feeling
- 42:17most as a thorn in my side is anxiety,
- 42:20and how I can control that.
- 42:23So, our consultation was also very
- 42:24focused on how I can not feel that so
- 42:26much in my day-to-day and change my
- 42:28routine, change my habits so that this
- 42:31isn't a constant.
- 42:33So, it ended up being very useful and I
- 42:35took away many practical tips that I
- 42:37undoubtedly want to start implementing
- 42:39over the next month.
- 42:41And another thing that I also feel
- 42:43messes us all up, me and everyone else,
- 42:46is the cell phone.
- 42:48We are constantly glued to our phones.
- 42:51And it's something that I've been trying
- 42:54less and less to consume and be attached
- 42:57to, and be constantly there, doom
- 43:00scrolling.
- 43:02Uh, and something that I’m also, for
- 43:05next month—I keep saying next month,
- 43:07because we’re at the end of October now
- 43:09—something I want to implement in
- 43:11November, is something I saw a girl
- 43:13doing, this series, and I thought it was
- 43:15a really cool idea: whenever you get the
- 43:17urge, like, "I have a block of time here
- 43:20with nothing to do," and that desire,
- 43:22that urge to pick up your phone and
- 43:24start doomscrolling, whenever you have
- 43:26that urge, go do something you enjoy or
- 43:28learn something new.
- 43:31Man, I loved this idea and I really want
- 43:33to implement it, because we’re always
- 43:35saying we don’t have time to learn, we
- 43:36don’t have time to do this or that
- 43:38because of our busy lives, and often we
- 43:40end up spending so much time just glued
- 43:41to our phones, doing nothing, just
- 43:43looking at things we’re not even really
- 43:45seeing; and suddenly, we went on
- 43:46Instagram just to check a few things and
- 43:48we’ve been there for an hour.
- 43:51So, let’s use that hour or that half
- 43:53hour to do things I like, like learning
- 43:55something new, cooking something that
- 43:57brings me joy, and being completely
- 43:59disconnected from the phone.
- 44:01So, November will be a month where I’ll
- 44:04be more conscious of this and I’ll
- 44:07really try to avoid doomscrolling. I
- 44:10already feel like I don’t do it that
- 44:11much, especially when I’m with people. I
- 44:14feel like I really try not to be on my
- 44:15phone, but it’s something that, living
- 44:17alone, often ends up happening at the
- 44:19end of the day.
- 44:21I finished work, I have a little time,
- 44:23instead of that: no, let’s read, let’s
- 44:25cook, let’s leave the house, let’s try
- 44:27something new, let’s try to do things
- 44:29that nourish us more than just being
- 44:31attached to the lives of others, right?
- 44:34And anyway, I leave it as a
- 44:35recommendation for you to also get your
- 44:37human design reading, or check out an
- 44:38episode I did back then, because I think
- 44:40it ends up explaining a lot of this.
- 44:42I don’t understand much; obviously, I’m
- 44:45not an expert at all in human design or
- 44:47astrology or any of the other things I
- 44:49keep bringing here to the podcast.
- 44:51I’m just curious and I like to get to
- 44:54know myself. I like doing these things,
- 44:56I like having these consultations, and I
- 44:59like—like I was saying—I really like
- 45:01analyzing and getting insights for my
- 45:03life, as long as it’s in a healthy way
- 45:06and it doesn't cause me more anxiety.
- 45:09These little things I've noted that I
- 45:11want to change, whether professionally,
- 45:13or personally, in terms of routine or
- 45:16habits, are things we can always work on
- 45:18in a soft way; small changes that then
- 45:20compound, as atomic habits say, where
- 45:22everything together will lead to changes
- 45:25, well, big changes.
- 45:27And I feel like this upcoming month of
- 45:29November will be a month where I'll
- 45:31finally be at home more, because I feel
- 45:33like the summer, September, and October
- 45:36were just crazy.
- 45:37It was crazy preparing for a
- 45:38half-marathon, crazy constantly
- 45:40traveling back and forth, always going
- 45:41to Lisbon and moving around.
- 45:44I was hardly home, and now it's going to
- 45:46be a month where I'll be much calmer,
- 45:48less rushing, softer.
- 45:51Fewer trips, fewer visits to Lisbon, if
- 45:53all goes well, more time at home, more
- 45:55routine.
- 45:58So, I'm much more focused on building a
- 46:01routine now that makes me happier here,
- 46:04because I need that stimulus that Lisbon
- 46:07gives me and that good little bit of
- 46:09anxiety, that nervous excitement that
- 46:12being away and managing crazy schedules
- 46:15brings me.
- 46:17But I also need this calm and to be okay
- 46:19with the quiet and to enjoy a "boring"
- 46:21life.
- 46:23So, I also want to change small things
- 46:25in my life so I don't get this feeling
- 46:28that I'm too stagnant, or bored, or that
- 46:30I should be doing more.
- 46:33So, it starts a bit there, this seed of
- 46:36mine, trying to find ways not to be at
- 46:39home so much, not to be so alone,
- 46:41working out, calling people, grabbing
- 46:43coffees, teleworking somewhere with
- 46:46someone; or even just avoiding dead time
- 46:48on my phone and using that to do things
- 46:51I've always wanted to do and kept
- 46:53putting off because I don't have time.
- 46:59And always trying my best to bring
- 47:01people into my life who inspire me, who
- 47:03help me, whether professionally or
- 47:06personally, and trying to challenge
- 47:08myself in that sense, even in Porto,
- 47:10even at home, even in my routine,
- 47:12because I end up doing that a lot when I
- 47:15travel or am in Lisbon, but it’s also
- 47:17important at home to look for these
- 47:20stimuli, to look for new things, events
- 47:22, things that also take us out of our
- 47:24comfort zone.
- 47:27And for me, I know, and Humaniz also
- 47:30justifies it, but I know I need that and
- 47:32it fuels me a lot. So, this will be my
- 47:35focus for the month of November. And
- 47:36later I'll tell you how it went when I
- 47:39sit back down here, maybe with Inês and
- 47:41Mónica, how it's been going throughout
- 47:43this month, but for now, these are the
- 47:45little things I'm planting.
- 47:48And well, in terms of sports goals,
- 47:50let's see what's coming up.
- 47:53There’s something people asked me right
- 47:55away. As soon as I finished the race, it
- 47:57was like, what's next? What is the next
- 47:59goal? Eh, what do you want to do next?
- 48:01Eh, and I know this question is normal,
- 48:03but I'm super chill.
- 48:05I really am, I'm not going to sign up
- 48:07for a marathon, it's all good.
- 48:10Eh, I’m not going to dive headfirst into
- 48:12that one just yet. Although, imagine,
- 48:14it's something I always said, eh, I will
- 48:16never run a marathon.
- 48:18And I don't say that now.
- 48:21I think it's normal for us to always be
- 48:23like: "OK, I made it, I was capable, I
- 48:25set this goal and achieved it, so I can
- 48:27do even more."
- 48:29Eh, and I think it's something I will
- 48:31eventually do in my life, but it won't
- 48:33be right now.
- 48:35I don't feel like I have the desire for
- 48:37that, or to go through that process and
- 48:39that marathon training cycle. It's not
- 48:41something that makes sense to me at the
- 48:43moment.
- 48:44Eh, but in terms of sports goals, look,
- 48:46I would really like to test my 10k time
- 48:48now.
- 48:49So, I'll probably sign up for a race to
- 48:50do that, since I'm so well prepared.
- 48:53I would like to be aware of where I
- 48:56stand in running terms for 10k, because
- 48:59I hit PRs at 5, 10, 15, 20, 21 in this
- 49:03race.
- 49:04So, at 10k I'll be able to get a better
- 49:06time. Eh, so, I'm going to do that race
- 49:09.
- 49:09I'll also do a Hybriday in December, so
- 49:11it will be a fun challenge because I'm
- 49:14doing it with Prata and she has never
- 49:16done Hyrox and started running very
- 49:17recently, so it will be a much chiller
- 49:20and more fun thing, like, with a friend
- 49:22, I think it will be a very cool process
- 49:24.
- 49:25So, until the end of the year, I think
- 49:27that’s pretty much it.
- 49:29And later, I want to reflect calmly; you
- 49:32know, not in the heat of the moment,
- 49:34with this head of mine still buzzing
- 49:36from reaching my goal, but letting
- 49:38things settle and sink in before setting
- 49:41new objectives.
- 49:42I do think I see myself doing more half
- 49:45marathons next year. I see myself doing
- 49:48maybe two. I’d really love to complete
- 49:50the SuperHalfs; it’s a goal of mine to
- 49:52get that medal for the six races.
- 49:54Cardiff is one, Valencia is another, so
- 49:56I already have two.
- 49:58I’m missing four medals: Lisbon, which
- 50:00I’d love to do next year—the one over
- 50:03the 25 de Abril Bridge—which I think is
- 50:05in March. I couldn't do it this year
- 50:07because I was already seeing someone at
- 50:08that time, but I’d really love to run
- 50:10that half.
- 50:11Uh, Copenhagen is also part of it.
- 50:14It is.
- 50:17Berlin.
- 50:19And Prague. I believe those are the four
- 50:21. So, I’d like to do one more abroad.
- 50:24I don’t know if I’ll manage, because
- 50:25these races are super hard to get a bib
- 50:27for and all that. But I’d like to
- 50:29perhaps do two more half marathons next
- 50:31year; I can imagine myself doing two
- 50:33more training cycles and maybe setting
- 50:35some time goals. I mean, in one year, I
- 50:38managed to shave 12 minutes off my half
- 50:40marathon time.
- 50:42So, who knows what I can do next year?
- 50:45And I think that, for now, that might be
- 50:46the path forward. It will be about
- 50:49thinking of races and also destinations
- 50:51, as I think I’ll want to keep doing
- 50:53this traveling thing, especially taking
- 50:56people along and going in a group—
- 50:58traveling and running abroad, getting to
- 51:00know a new city while running. Even if
- 51:03it’s not a SuperHalf, we were all
- 51:04already thinking, like: "Okay, we can do
- 51:06any other race, even if it's not a
- 51:08SuperHalf, set it up and make a trip out
- 51:09of it." I think it’s really cool.
- 51:12And that level of experience you gain,
- 51:14like, it’s much more than just running
- 51:16the Porto Half Marathon here, on a
- 51:18course I’m more than used to training on
- 51:20and which is just more of the same.
- 51:22Anyway, I think it’s an experience—
- 51:24these are unique experiences, and since
- 51:26I’m now in this phase of running, I want
- 51:29to take advantage of it because it’s a
- 51:31really, really cool way to see a city.
- 51:33So, I think next year will go a little
- 51:34bit in that direction, but yeah.
- 51:36Then, when we get to the end of the year
- 51:38, I think that's when, having gone
- 51:40through the whole year and all these
- 51:43goals, the dust will have settled, and
- 51:45I'll be able to make a more conscious
- 51:47decision about what I want for my sports
- 51:50year, but for now, we'll keep going and
- 51:52want to do more cool things before the
- 51:54year ends.
- 51:56So, that's that. Look, I think we'll
- 51:58leave it here for this episode.
- 52:00We talked about a bunch of random things
- 52:02and, perhaps, the Human Design part
- 52:03might have been a bit confusing for
- 52:05those who don't know what it is. But
- 52:07look, go read up on it first, do some
- 52:08research on Human Design because I think
- 52:10it really, really makes sense.
- 52:12I swear that for me, everything she told
- 52:15me was super, super spot on. And it
- 52:18helps, well, there you go, to get to
- 52:19know ourselves better and then make
- 52:21better decisions in our daily lives, to
- 52:23grow and realize that we have control
- 52:25over our happiness and the way we live
- 52:28our lives. Like, literally, we're the
- 52:29ones who decide everything. So, if we
- 52:31have knowledge of what works best for us
- 52:34, even better. So, I'm going to do it
- 52:36with that in mind, because if something
- 52:38justifies why I am this way and feel
- 52:39this way and it's going to be better for
- 52:41me, then I'm going to try it, trying
- 52:43doesn't cost anything, you know? I think
- 52:45we need to be open-minded about these
- 52:47things, and I like, I like thinking like
- 52:49that.
- 52:50I hope you enjoyed this episode, and
- 52:53we'll see you next week for another
- 52:55Sunday therapy.
- 53:01It's not easy, I know, but girl, it's
- 53:03part of it. See you on Sunday at the
- 53:05usual time.
