  1. 0:02hello I'm Sean Brown CEO and founder of
  2. 0:05conty a corporation that works very
  3. 0:08closely with campus reimagined at
  4. 0:11FSU in this cooperation I have the
  5. 0:14pleasure of working with Carrie mroy who
  6. 0:17happens to be your instructor in Lei
  7. 0:203312 and in talking to her I realized
  8. 0:23that I need your help I have an event to
  9. 0:27plan a particular type of event EV and
  10. 0:31your skill set if you're willing to
  11. 0:33could really help me in planning this
  12. 0:36real life event and bring a little
  13. 0:38creativity and Spark to
  14. 0:40it today I'm going to lay out as briefly
  15. 0:43and clearly as I can the limited amount
  16. 0:46of information we have about this event
  17. 0:47that's going to take place this fall and
  18. 0:50I Look to each of you to follow car's
  19. 0:52assignment and see if you have any
  20. 0:55suggestions about how I can approve it
  21. 0:58the more specific the better
  22. 1:00I'll leave the particulars of the
  23. 1:02assignment to Carrie but the truth of
  24. 1:05the matter is that I will be looking at
  25. 1:08every one of the ideas received through
  26. 1:11this opportunity and I may use part or
  27. 1:15all of the ideas given for some of your
  28. 1:20uh things you're willing to share so
  29. 1:22this is the real thing let's get
  30. 1:28started
  31. 1:30campus reimagined is a community of
  32. 1:34higher education institutions led by
  33. 1:37Florida State University that are trying
  34. 1:39to think ahead about what colleges and
  35. 1:41universities will be like in the future
  36. 1:44we're trying to look well into the next
  37. 1:46decade and think what students like you
  38. 1:48and professors and researchers will want
  39. 1:51from the campus they live and work on we
  40. 1:54have a heavy focus on technology quite
  41. 1:57honestly all of us who are involved are
  42. 1:59mainly technology people first and so
  43. 2:01we're trying to also look through that
  44. 2:03crystal ball and share with each other
  45. 2:05things we're knowing and
  46. 2:09learning this event is going to take
  47. 2:12place as a small gathering at part of a
  48. 2:16larger event there's a worldwide event
  49. 2:19called educas which is an international
  50. 2:22Gathering of leaders and higher
  51. 2:24education technology people who support
  52. 2:28students with internet Tech technology
  53. 2:30on campus people who put in the networks
  54. 2:33people who buy and maintain things like
  55. 2:36canvas and the other software and things
  56. 2:38that you use and also includes people
  57. 2:41like academic counselors
  58. 2:44provosts um and other leaders um in
  59. 2:47residents life people in HR who help
  60. 2:51keep track of the staff and faculty of
  61. 2:54the university all to make it work and
  62. 2:56so much more so this International
  63. 2:59Gathering happen happens once a year in
  64. 3:00the fall and you have anywhere from 3 to
  65. 3:0210,000 people and happens in a different
  66. 3:05city every year this year it's happening
  67. 3:08in San Antonio
  68. 3:10Texas so the mission is that during this
  69. 3:15meeting we want to have a side event a
  70. 3:18side party if you will of a couple of
  71. 3:21hours on Tuesday October 22 where we can
  72. 3:25get together as a group Talk Amongst
  73. 3:29ourselves share a few presentations and
  74. 3:32have a cocktail reception the details
  75. 3:34that you see before you are Tuesday
  76. 3:37October 22nd the location the Marriott
  77. 3:41San Antonio River
  78. 3:43Center the time that we have reserved
  79. 3:46and a paid for there are between the
  80. 3:49hours of 3: and 6:30 p.m. central Time
  81. 3:53the rough agenda is arrival of
  82. 3:57introductions a program with Charter
  83. 4:00Member presentations maybe three or four
  84. 4:02presentations lasting 45 to 90 minutes
  85. 4:06and a reception to cap it all off a
  86. 4:09social hour if you will of 75 minutes or
  87. 4:12so the number of attendees that we
  88. 4:15expect are anywhere from 25 to 40 this
  89. 4:19is the second time we've thrown an event
  90. 4:22like this but this is the inaugural
  91. 4:24event of the community we're trying to
  92. 4:27establish where we're going to have a
  93. 4:29name and everything uh maybe come up
  94. 4:33with some bylaws and stuff the sponsors
  95. 4:36of the event who will be paying for the
  96. 4:38budget are my firm
  97. 4:40conty um campus evolve AI another firm
  98. 4:45Florida State
  99. 4:47University and
  100. 4:51Microsoft when I say I need your
  101. 4:54help I've told you about all the details
  102. 4:56we have as of right now I've booked the
  103. 4:58hotel I've booked some space we've got a
  104. 5:01basic budget that's pretty healthy but
  105. 5:05um we need activities ideas we need
  106. 5:08signage ideas we really need to plan
  107. 5:10this cocktail
  108. 5:12party
  109. 5:13um the activities that we need are the
  110. 5:16kinds of things that you would imagine
  111. 5:18if a group of people who don't know each
  112. 5:19other who haven't necessarily ever met
  113. 5:22each other before or from universities
  114. 5:24all around the world mostly from America
  115. 5:27but the second largest group is like
  116. 5:29going to come from the United Kingdom
  117. 5:32some will come from Australia for sure
  118. 5:34some attendees are confirmed from New
  119. 5:36Zealand some are confirmed from China
  120. 5:39everyone who's coming does speak English
  121. 5:41so there's no language barrier there to
  122. 5:44worry about
  123. 5:46but we need to get to know each other
  124. 5:49all I've got so far in my mind is name
  125. 5:51tags um signage we obviously will be a
  126. 5:55part of a very large hotel with a lot of
  127. 5:58stuff going on in it and so we want our
  128. 6:03um event to sort of be obvious that it's
  129. 6:06happening so you got to put signs up so
  130. 6:08we're thinking there and we'd also like
  131. 6:10to obviously recognize the sponsors who
  132. 6:13put together the money to pay for the
  133. 6:15different things that'll be served and
  134. 6:17done there Microsoft campus evolve and
  135. 6:21my firm
  136. 6:23conty in a cocktail party you know does
  137. 6:27there need to be any structure any flow
  138. 6:29any program should there be gifts should
  139. 6:33there be things handed out should one
  140. 6:34stay away from that altogether looking
  141. 6:37for your thoughts and ideas based on
  142. 6:39your experience and your imagination
  143. 6:41about what to do with these
  144. 6:44things our goal of the event is for
  145. 6:48these 25 to 45 people to meet and
  146. 6:51establish enduring relationships over
  147. 6:53the couple days that they are there and
  148. 6:55the few hours that they're with us at
  149. 6:57the beginning of the conference because
  150. 6:59if I did didn't make it clear this event
  151. 7:01that we're having will be happening
  152. 7:03right at the beginning of a week-long
  153. 7:05conference right so maybe if you make a
  154. 7:08friend at the beginning you'll see them
  155. 7:10many times that week uh in Texas while
  156. 7:13you're there from wherever you came from
  157. 7:14in the world we want to have the
  158. 7:17opportunity in our program to share
  159. 7:19strategies and Status the status of
  160. 7:22innovative products projects they may be
  161. 7:24working on things they want to share
  162. 7:26that kind of stuff we want to have an
  163. 7:28opportunity to discuss ways to sustain
  164. 7:32our connection to each other and so that
  165. 7:35doesn't necessarily bear on anything
  166. 7:36other than the agenda but if you happen
  167. 7:39to have any creative ideas on how to
  168. 7:41stay in touch all I got is friendship
  169. 7:44bracelets I'm a dad but if you think of
  170. 7:47anything else that would go into the
  171. 7:49event the party that would help discuss
  172. 7:52ways to sustain collaboration and stay
  173. 7:54in touch with people we meet that would
  174. 7:56be really nice and welcome and then
  175. 8:00obviously to launch this community
  176. 8:02itself with The Branding and we're
  177. 8:04settled on a name right now we'll get
  178. 8:06you those details as we go but we're
  179. 8:08trying to launch the AI to improve the
  180. 8:11University student experience Alliance
  181. 8:14that's what this is the AI to improve
  182. 8:18the University student experience
  183. 8:20Alliance is the mouthful of a name that
  184. 8:23we have so far from International
  185. 8:25discussion online about what it should
  186. 8:26be named that's the winner so far
  187. 8:31I want to tell you about the venue in
  188. 8:33case you haven't been to Texas this may
  189. 8:35be irrelevant because you already know
  190. 8:36that this needs to happen inside the
  191. 8:39hotel that we've chosen as far as I
  192. 8:40think but to stimulate your creativity
  193. 8:44realize that this whole event this week
  194. 8:47the larger event educause and the
  195. 8:49smaller event AI for to improve the
  196. 8:52student experience uh Alliance um
  197. 8:55kickoff are all going to happen in San
  198. 8:58An anonio Texas on the San Antonio River
  199. 9:02Walk which is a human-made canal that
  200. 9:07runs uh quite a few blocks a long way um
  201. 9:11between hotels bars restaurants a mall a
  202. 9:16theater and everyone has outdoor seating
  203. 9:19so you can imagine it you know um I
  204. 9:21think easily enough but you can look it
  205. 9:24up if you want and just so you know San
  206. 9:28Antonio is the city in Texas where the
  207. 9:30Alamo is that you're supposed to
  208. 9:31remember for reasons that I've forgotten
  209. 9:33about since history class some people
  210. 9:36stood a Time against an army that was
  211. 9:40against them that's all I know I don't
  212. 9:41remember enough about the Alo but it's
  213. 9:43that town and um so in case that Sparks
  214. 9:47your uh your interest or any sort of
  215. 9:49thematic thing I wanted you to know
  216. 9:53that here um I want to show you some
  217. 9:55pictures of the hotel and the room that
  218. 9:58I physically booked
  219. 9:59um I have some flexibility and they have
  220. 10:02table shapes uh you know horseshoe round
  221. 10:07if you have any particular ideas or
  222. 10:09opinions you know that go that way
  223. 10:11that's there um you're welcome to do it
  224. 10:14but basically you see the size of room
  225. 10:16we have a large lobby area and we have
  226. 10:20an information desk that'll be all ours
  227. 10:23to put collateral on or do nothing or
  228. 10:26you know uh any sort of idea you have
  229. 10:29these are the spaces that I've been
  230. 10:31guaranteed by the place and also the
  231. 10:33atrium where our cocktail party can be
  232. 10:37of the hotel
  233. 10:40itself um The Atrium where we'll be
  234. 10:43served uh the headquarters of the drinks
  235. 10:46are the corner of the atrium is actually
  236. 10:49has a um commercial bar called the
  237. 10:53tributary San Antonio um it's privately
  238. 10:57reserved for us for that period of time
  239. 11:01and um you can do your own research or
  240. 11:04they can kind of do whatever we think
  241. 11:07it's necessary when I say cocktail party
  242. 11:09I I don't drink myself I don't
  243. 11:11absolutely mean in any way that needs to
  244. 11:13be alcoholic if you think that it needs
  245. 11:15to be a particular way but also it can
  246. 11:18be and our budget accommodates whatever
  247. 11:21uh within reason you think might be the
  248. 11:23right way to set this up so if you have
  249. 11:25ideas in this regard knock yourself out
  250. 11:28and I'll really appreciate it and if you
  251. 11:30don't you know whatever Carri ass signs
  252. 11:32is is what it would be great for you to
  253. 11:34do so in
  254. 11:36summation I need your help I'm looking
  255. 11:39for ideas that help us have a successful
  256. 11:43launch of this community of people who
  257. 11:48want to be an alliance to use artificial
  258. 11:51intelligence to improve the student
  259. 11:54experience worldwide it's our first
  260. 11:57discussion it's our first opportunity to
  261. 11:59meet with each other and we all want to
  262. 12:01get to know each other and remember each
  263. 12:02other as friends so that when we're
  264. 12:03collaborating online over zoom in the
  265. 12:07365 days to come before we meet the next
  266. 12:09time that we've gotten a really good
  267. 12:12kickoff down in San Antonio so those are
  268. 12:16the basics more details to follow but
  269. 12:19thank you for listening this far and I
  270. 12:20hope this was helpful any other
  271. 12:22questions you need feel free to ask me
  272. 12:25uh Sean Brown of Ky um you can reach me
  273. 12:28via Carrie um and uh otherwise uh I look
  274. 12:32forward to seeing what your great ideas
  275. 12:35are going to be in this regard and I
  276. 12:37hope I can use some of them thank you
  277. 12:39very much have a good
  278. 12:53day
