Fear & Hunger – The Lore of All 20 Gods Explained — Transcript
Full transcript
- 0:00One god slain by mankind's own hands. Another, the most worshipped of them all,
- 0:04may be a sadistic shadow wearing a savior's name.
- 0:07And in 1942, hidden below a cursed city, humanity is building a god of its very own.
- 0:12But to understand how we got here, we have to go back to the very beginning.
- 0:17The gods in Fear & Hunger aren't all-loving creatures,
- 0:20but twisted eldritch monsters based on primordial truths,
- 0:23primal fears, and humanity's arrogance.
- 0:25Their so-called blessings grotesquely morph the bodies of their followers,
- 0:29or any creature unfortunate enough to be in their path.
- 0:32Yet most of these deities aren't what they seem,
- 0:35and their stories are far more connected than they first appear.
- 0:38As we'll see, every age of Fear & Hunger begins in the same way,
- 0:41with a different god rising to replace the one before it.
- 0:44By the end of this video, we'll follow that cycle from the dawn of time to the
- 0:48most unexpected god of all, one born not from divinity, but from human hands.
- 0:53Every deity falls into one of three classes: the Old Gods who shaped the world,
- 0:57the New Gods who tried to claim it, and the Ascended Gods who remade it.
- 1:01All three types are crucial to the story and lore of the Fear & Hunger series,
- 1:05shaping events firsthand as well as the world building around them.
- 1:09We begin with the oldest of them all.
- 1:11Before humanity or any other life form, there were only the Old Gods.
- 1:14Beings of immeasurable power originating from the
- 1:17otherworldly plane of the Green Hue beyond the Void.
- 1:20By increasing one's affinity with an Old God through performing aligned actions,
- 1:24humans can channel its magic, each providing different effects,
- 1:27and every deity has their own dedicated cult of worship.
- 1:30Despite their immense strength and influence on the universe,
- 1:33the Old Gods have long since abandoned the world of man.
- 1:36Only their infinitesimal traces now remain.
- 1:38But the mere fractions of fragments of their power are enough to easily overwhelm
- 1:42and destroy any human or New God foolish enough to make contact. We learn a
- 1:46great deal about both the Old and Ascended Gods through their respective skin
- 1:50bibles, books dedicated to each god's origin and influence,
- 1:53attributed to Enki, the Dark Priest from the first Fear & Hunger.
- 1:57The Old Gods can be communed with via asymmetric ritual circles,
- 2:00described in game as the only link between a man and an older god,
- 2:04showing the one-sided distribution of power.
- 2:06We encounter five unique Old Gods in total throughout both Fear & Hunger games.
- 2:10Gro-goroth. The bringer of destruction and human sacrifice is,
- 2:14strangely, the Old God most curious about humans.
- 2:17He blesses his followers with blood magic, fire spells, and necromancy.
- 2:21We can grow his affinity by sacrificing party members or shedding our own
- 2:25blood at a corresponding ritual circle, and by consuming human flesh.
- 2:28Despite being associated with heinous acts, Gro-goroth isn't a purely evil being.
- 2:33He appears wearing the skin of men and women in an attempt to ease the fear
- 2:37humanity shows towards him, which unfortunately garners the opposite reaction.
- 2:41His destruction also builds a path for new life to follow,
- 2:44just as a new forest cannot take root until the previous one has been burned away.
- 2:48This harmony is shown with Gro-goroth's counterpart, Sylvian,
- 2:51the Old God of love and creation, as the pair are each a side of the same coin.
- 2:55Creation cannot exist without destruction,
- 2:57and their consummation bred their child Vinushka, the Old God of nature.
- 3:01Embodying both destructive and creative aspects, whom we will be looking at shortly.
- 3:06Gro-goroth's power also resides within the Necronomicon,
- 3:09a cursed book that may teach a blood spell or completely destroy the reader's mind.
- 3:13His symbol represents an eclipse,
- 3:15and engraving it on one's face increases attack power.
- 3:18We find Gro-goroth's followers, the Wolfmask cult,
- 3:20deep within the the Dungeons of Fear & Hunger.
- 3:23They are half naked in animal fur, entranced and indulging in cannibalism
- 3:26and self-mutilation for their so-called celebration of flesh.
- 3:29We too can take part to restore our hunger and grow our affinity with Gro-goroth.
- 3:34But trying twice or more brings a coin flip to determine if we
- 3:37retain our sanity or lose ourselves to the madness of the ritual.
- 3:40We also find the Black Witch is a follower of the Old God,
- 3:43having lost himself to blood magic and twisting his form in the process.
- 3:47The most infamous group tied to Gro-goroth are the yellow mages,
- 3:50an order created by the New God Nas'hrah.
- 3:52Rather than worshipping the gods, yellow mages channel their power,
- 3:55Gro-goroth's above all, purely for their own personal gain, and we see firsthand
- 3:59just how strong Gro-goroth's traces remain at the Altar of Darkness in Ending B.
- 4:04Here, we come face to face with the fragment of the Old God,
- 4:07which easily blasts the New God Nas'hrah to ash,
- 4:09which he does likewise with our mind if we manage to win the battle, completely
- 4:13crushing our psyche by showing a mere glimmer of the greater truth of the universe.
- 4:17It showcases the impossible strength the Old Gods possess.
- 4:20And yet, of all the Old Gods, he isn't the one humanity hurt the most.
- 4:24Every human being in Fear & Hunger exists because of one god,
- 4:28and she came to regret it.
- 4:29Gro-goroth's counterpart, Sylvian, the Goddess of love, lust, and fertility.
- 4:33It was she who created mankind,
- 4:35and she always cared deeply for her creations, blessing them with love magic.
- 4:39But over time, her affection turned twisted as she realized humanity
- 4:43would never return the same love she showed, and her gifts began to
- 4:46morph her followers into a likeness more akin to her own eldritch form.
- 4:50We see her grotesque transfigurations through Sylvian marriages,
- 4:53a warped version of the real world counterpart that occurs when two or
- 4:57more people or creatures show physical love within a ritual circle.
- 5:01While it can make them more powerful, as seen with our characters,
- 5:04the Moonless Guards, or the yellow lizard mages,
- 5:07it can also fail when the participants have ill favor with the Gods,
- 5:10creating failed marriages, or abominations upon too many repeated attempts,
- 5:14as we see with the Human Hydra and the Knights of Rondon.
- 5:17However, some accounts tell that Sylvian instructed a mysterious deity named
- 5:21Vitruvia to architect humanity's design, which Sylvian then implemented.
- 5:25Dissatisfied with the results, Vitruvia then went on to create a perfect human
- 5:29being in the form of the Ascended God Alll-mer, whose lore we will dive into later.
- 5:33Her followers are the Bunnymasks,
- 5:35cultists devoted to showing love to Sylvian through entranced physical acts.
- 5:38We find them in the meadow, where we can join in to restore our health.
- 5:42We are able to break free of the trance once,
- 5:44but trying again presents a coin flip to determine if we retain
- 5:47our sanity or lose ourselves completely to the celebration.
- 5:50The Bunnymasks are also the same cult Daan's parents were part
- 5:54of in Fear & Hunger 2 before losing themselves to the trance.
- 5:57Her love magic is the main source of healing in the first game,
- 6:01and her ritual circles in Fear & Hunger 2 restore lost limbs,
- 6:04though not those lost to birth defects or ritual sacrifice,
- 6:07as seen with Olivia and Daan. But her magic has a much darker side.
- 6:11Demon Seed allows us to grow a Demonic Child
- 6:13companion from a recently deceased corpse,
- 6:15and Rebirth of the Beloved allows D'arce to revive a dead Le'garde in her S ending,
- 6:20although what she brings back isn't the same as her lost lover. Sylvian's symbol
- 6:24reflects fertility and raises magical defense when carved into one's face.
- 6:28We can actually encounter a trace of Sylvian on Terror and Starvation and
- 6:31Hard difficulties, where she rises from the Green Hue within the Void.
- 6:35Showcasing her powers of creation,
- 6:37she forms a tumor throughout the battle taking the shape of one
- 6:40of the four main characters, using their respective abilities.
- 6:43Upon winning the battle, she lets the player go, receding back into the Green Hue.
- 6:47But her greatest creation wasn't humanity at all.
- 6:49It was her child. Of all the Old Gods,
- 6:52only one's disappearance was attributed to humanity having slain it.
- 6:55It was from Sylvian's consummation with Gro-goroth that their child,
- 6:59Vinushka, the Old God of nature, was created.
- 7:01One of the most mysterious gods due to being completely absent from the first game,
- 7:06Vinushka embodies both the destructive and creative qualities of his parents,
- 7:10showcased perfectly in the world of nature, as one day a wildfire
- 7:13can raze the land and later it can regrow to a pristine forest.
- 7:16Vinushka blesses his followers with nature magic,
- 7:19from fire spells to healing through photosynthesis,
- 7:22along with magic borrowed from his parents,
- 7:24such as seeds planted in corpses that bloom into flowers restoring body or mind.
- 7:29His symbol represents the swirling cycles of nature and
- 7:32increases magical attack when carved into one's face.
- 7:34However, Vinushka differs from the Old Gods in a few ways.
- 7:38The first is that he is taught in both occult and scientific circles,
- 7:41as Olivia, being a botanist,
- 7:43can start with a Vinushka skin bible she acquired through her studies.
- 7:46The second is that we find two skin bibles dedicated to him:
- 7:49one which has been edited by the Vatican, and the original,
- 7:52unedited version hidden in Father Hugo's house.
- 7:55The edited version speaks briefly on the Old God,
- 7:57mostly mentioning his origin and the power he inherited from his parents,
- 8:01but the unedited version bestows shocking revelations that the Vatican seems
- 8:05to want hidden from the world. The first striking difference is his form,
- 8:09the original version showing Vinushka as a pinecone-faced deity.
- 8:12The second is that the Old God is dead, having been killed by men.
- 8:16Mankind once lived symbiotically with nature, but as they advanced,
- 8:19the natural world was torn down and used to pave the way for civilization,
- 8:23resulting in a war between Vinushka and humans to see who would be dominant,
- 8:27which ultimately ended in the Old God's demise.
- 8:29Death doesn't mean the same to deities as it does to people,
- 8:32and we see Father Hugo dispute this claim in his God Manifesto.
- 8:35It may be due to this that we don't see Vinushka in the first Fear & Hunger,
- 8:39with his fire magic instead being attributed to the destructive power of Gro-goroth.
- 8:43But the blood on humanity's hands is guilty nonetheless,
- 8:46and it will break down the world in time.
- 8:48As with the other gods, traces of Vinushka still linger in the Iki Turso,
- 8:52nature beings that desperately wait for their dead god to return.
- 8:56We see the Iki Turso hold bonds to the natural world,
- 8:59as when Rancid kills the one near Prehevil,
- 9:01the ground around it will die, turning black as time passes.
- 9:04It is theorized that the Owl cultists of Fear & Hunger 2 follow Vinushka
- 9:08due to dwelling in the forest, but their masks are melded to their faces,
- 9:12possibly an effect of the violent God of the moon,
- 9:15Rher.
- 9:16Among the Old Gods, one is said to still be watching us,
- 9:19and that's exactly what makes him so dangerous.
- 9:22Rher, the trickster moon god associated with all things delinquent,
- 9:25is believed by the New Gods to be the last Old God still observing humanity.
- 9:29He is extremely jealous, refusing to share godhood with mankind or the New Gods,
- 9:34and plots against any human attempt to ascend.
- 9:36His moonlight is said to show secret truths, often too much to handle,
- 9:40and his influence easily drives people mad, causing them to moonscorch,
- 9:44twisting them into monstrous versions of their repressed emotions and true selves.
- 9:48Rher is pivotal to the plot of the second game, being the force behind
- 9:52the Festival of Termina which the main characters are forced into.
- 9:55While the true nature of the festival is a mystery, it is described as a jubilee,
- 9:59suggesting it comes only once every few decades or even centuries,
- 10:03and it always results in great bloodshed,
- 10:05with those who refuse to take part being moonscorched by Rher.
- 10:08The festival itself is overseen by a mysterious figure claiming to be the servant of
- 10:13the moon god and pushing the participants of Termina forward in the battle royale.
- 10:17However, his true motive is much more sinister,
- 10:19and his real master is a secret deity we will uncover shortly.
- 10:23The festival taking place in Prehevil appears to have gone through three phases.
- 10:27The first seems to have occurred to the townspeople, who reported seeing
- 10:30Per'kele in their dreams before going mad and starting to moonscorch.
- 10:34The second when the Kaiser and the Bremen army entered Prehevil,
- 10:37as a soldier we can talk to in battle notes his three-day time limit is almost up.
- 10:41And the third and final phase came when the main characters arrived on the train,
- 10:46given their own three-day time limit to be the last one standing and reach the
- 10:49Hollow Tower. Despite the Festival of Termina being fueled by the Old Gods,
- 10:53Samarie remarks that Prehevil seems to have been chosen for a reason,
- 10:57and that we may be able to end the festival early if we can negate its purpose.
- 11:01Rher's magic allows followers to read minds and grants access to the Golden Gates,
- 11:05a pocket world linking the wooden Rher dimensions throughout Prehevil.
- 11:08These seem to reflect dream and nightmare versions of the places
- 11:12they're connected to, with the Orphanage's becoming a battlefield,
- 11:15like the child soldiers harvested there to be sent to war,
- 11:18and the White Mold Apartments' becoming prison cells.
- 11:20His symbol represents the cycles of the moon and an eye forever watching
- 11:24over humanity, and it increases Mind capacity when carved into one's face.
- 11:28But we also hear of Rher in the first Fear & Hunger,
- 11:30meeting multiple followers who are in the dungeons to do his
- 11:33bidding of preventing humanity from ascending to godhood.
- 11:36The most infamous of his followers is Pocketcat, the long-winded,
- 11:39creepy cat-mask-wearing man who offers great rewards in exchange for children,
- 11:43which we learn is his attempt to have us deliver the Girl so
- 11:46that she won't become the Ascended God of Fear and Hunger.
- 11:49Pocketcat similarly trades rewards in the second game in exchange for the
- 11:53severed heads of Termina contestants, pushing us further into the bloodshed.
- 11:57We learn from Daan's ending that Pocketcat isn't a singular being,
- 12:00but a moniker and mask passed down to unfortunate souls possessed by the
- 12:04feline and forced to serve The Moon God. The second of Rher's followers
- 12:08we find is the Lady of Moon within the Temple of the Gods in Ma'habre,
- 12:12coming from the Green Hue and speaking telepathically.
- 12:14With a multifaceted, jellyfish-like body, she tells us she can make us whole again,
- 12:19fully restoring health, Mind, and missing limbs, but it comes at a dear cost:
- 12:23we must give her the Girl. Like Pocketcat, she serves her master's
- 12:26wish to prevent humans from ascending to the level of the Old Gods,
- 12:30and it is this very reason that may explain why the Festival of Termina is taking
- 12:34place in Prehevil specifically. After defeating all of the other contestants and
- 12:38ascending the Hollow Tower for Ending B, we face Rher after defeating Per'kele,
- 12:42the chains of the moon snapping as Rher gives us a peek at grandeur.
- 12:45Being victorious sees the trickster god grow disinterested and float away,
- 12:49with our character foaming at the mouth,
- 12:51unconscious from the exposure to the Old God, but still alive,
- 12:54having survived to see the fourth day and able to leave the city.
- 12:58But as we'll later learn,
- 12:59the moon god may have had very little to do with his own festival.
- 13:02The last Old God is the God of the Depths,
- 13:04a mysterious deity of the dark and the vermin residing within.
- 13:08Those who worship it are transformed into insectoid beings,
- 13:11often seemingly devoid of thought, as with the Mumblers, Cave Dwellers,
- 13:14and Body Snatchers, although some seem to retain higher thinking,
- 13:18like the Cockroach King, the Scarabs, and the Butterfly.
- 13:20The God of the Depths is tied to the Dungeons of Fear & Hunger,
- 13:24as we see its symbol in a ritual right inside the basement.
- 13:27Its body is found within the Cave Dweller village,
- 13:29and the Thicket is said to be the god's intestines,
- 13:32with its influence being the reason for the twisting layout of the dungeon.
- 13:35It's due to its dark influence that many of the creatures have morphed
- 13:39inside the dungeon, including the Crow Mauler, who was once Captain Rudimer.
- 13:42Humans have worshipped the god as well, as we see through the Maiden of the Depths,
- 13:46a once-human woman who was to be the bride of the God of the Depths.
- 13:50With the union ultimately proving impossible because of her mortality,
- 13:53and she was instead fused to the tree within the dungeons that leads to the Thicket.
- 13:57The God of the Depths is lord of insects, rodents, and crows, and its magic
- 14:01allows followers to communicate with and utilize vermin for different attacks.
- 14:05It also plays a pivotal role in the story.
- 14:08Its Cube of the Depths is the key to reaching the city of the gods,
- 14:11with the past version of the city only being accessible
- 14:14by placing the cube in a Beacon of the Depths.
- 14:17Le'garde seized the Cube in his pillaging of Oldegård,
- 14:19and his imprisonment brought it into the dungeons,
- 14:22where it changed hands until it rested on the altar next to the deity's body.
- 14:26And as we'll see, this is far from the last time we hear of Le'garde.
- 14:29The New God Nilvan entrusts us to take her daughter,
- 14:31the Girl, to the bottom of the dungeon within the God of the
- 14:34Depths' body so that a new age of humanity may commence.
- 14:37Around the dungeon we find three giant hearts belonging to the deity,
- 14:41and slicing all of them open allows us to enter its mouth,
- 14:44although it closes once we're inside. Within, we find the Gauntlet,
- 14:47a treacherous path of traps and enemies holding pieces of ancient architecture.
- 14:51At the end is the Altar of Darkness, where the Girl is able to become the Ascended
- 14:56God of Fear and Hunger by absorbing the essence of the God of the Depths,
- 14:59although her power only seems to include vermin, with insects excluded,
- 15:03possibly rejecting that aspect of the older god.
- 15:06The God of the Depths' influence hasn't disappeared from the world, though,
- 15:10as we find the Beekeepers of Fear & Hunger 2 have its symbol etched into their
- 15:14spawn point, showing its traces are still powerful enough to morph followers.
- 15:18But perhaps its greatest legacy is the god that was born from its corpse, a reminder
- 15:22that humanity is indeed able to ascend to divinity under the right conditions.
- 15:26With the Old Gods gone, they left behind a world without guidance,
- 15:30and an empty throne in the city of the gods. But It didn't stay vacant for long.
- 15:34If the divine had abandoned us, why not become gods ourselves?
- 15:38That question has been asked for over twenty thousand years,
- 15:41and the answer has always ended in failure. The New Gods.
- 15:44Mortal humans and creatures who have attempted to reach
- 15:47divinity by sitting upon the Throne of Ascension in Ma'habre.
- 15:51They spent their mortal lives chasing an ideal which they sought to perfect
- 15:55in New Godhood, though all of them ultimately fail and fade with time.
- 15:59While far weaker than the Old or Ascended Gods,
- 16:02they still hold power well beyond any human.
- 16:04Each New God takes a title from their soul type which acts as an
- 16:08astrological system, with only 4 soul types being present in the first game:
- 16:12Dominating, Endless, Tormented, and Enlightened.
- 16:15It was expanded to over a dozen types in the second game,
- 16:18with the prophesized update showing there are 28 total soul types.
- 16:21Depending on when someone is born,
- 16:23the New Gods can be communed with via an imperfect ritual circle,
- 16:27showcasing the flaws and their so-called ascension.
- 16:29But the New Gods never truly die.
- 16:31When their relevance fades or a stronger foe brings them down,
- 16:34they fall dormant and take their place in the Grand Hall, sitting idle for eternity
- 16:39while the next generation rules,
- 16:41though certain rituals can allow mortals to commune with them.
- 16:44While dominant rulers in the first game,
- 16:46they have dwindled to be more akin to forgotten relics in the modern era,
- 16:50but operate as a secret society from the shadows alongside the Kaiser, with
- 16:54evidence that they helped orchestrate the last two Great Wars. Rher despises them,
- 16:58and the New Gods themselves claim he has many ploys to diminish their influence.
- 17:02But humans weren't the first to reach for new godhood. Before mankind,
- 17:06the lizardmen were the dominant life on the planet and sought to ascend.
- 17:10Their New Gods are dinosaur-like beings known as Blights.
- 17:14In the museum, a stone tablet from around 20,000 BC depicts
- 17:17mysterious beings known as the Nine Chromatic Blights.
- 17:20Its carving style matches that in Ma'habre, suggesting these lizardmen
- 17:24deities once ruled the city of the gods long before humanity.
- 17:28Their remnants still exist,
- 17:29as in the first game a Greater Blight stalks us through the Void,
- 17:33forcing us to dive into a hole and wait for its footsteps to fade
- 17:36once it catches our scent, or else we face a difficult battle.
- 17:39The New Gods themselves admit that a Greater Blight still rivals their power,
- 17:43and that in their prime, the blights were far stronger.
- 17:46And if beings that powerful couldn't hold onto Ma'habre,
- 17:49what chance did humanity ever have?
- 17:50At the heart of the ancient city lie the Grand Libraries, founded by Betel,
- 17:54the famed New God of Enlightenment, who wished for its archives to one day
- 17:58surpass the knowledge and wisdom of the Old Gods. Every New God of Enlightenment
- 18:03since spends their cycle at the library studying a subject of their choosing.
- 18:07Betel is viewed as the father of enlightenment among the New Gods,
- 18:10and believed to have been a famous scholar prior to his ascension.
- 18:14His rings, Betel's stones, still leak magic in both games.
- 18:17But even the father of enlightenment wasn't destined to keep his domain forever.
- 18:21Betel's successor took the library through trickery. Nas'hrah, the foul-mouthed,
- 18:25quick-tempered sociopath claiming to be the Doom and Terror of Modern Man, was once
- 18:30the sultan of the Eastern Sanctuaries but became a New God in the 5th century.
- 18:34He also created the yellow mages and their creed
- 18:36of using the gods rather than worshipping them.
- 18:39Whatever trick Nas'hrah pulled on Betel enraged the other New Gods,
- 18:42who came to loathe his cruelty as much as he despised their weakness,
- 18:46and it seems they reduced him to his current state as a floating severed head.
- 18:50Yet even in this form,
- 18:51he has achieved a kind of immortality surpassing his colleagues,
- 18:54never having to return to the Grand Hall despite his reign having ended.
- 18:58We find him amongst the corpses in the blood pits,
- 19:01where he showcases his power by summoning the Darkness,
- 19:03an unkillable beast and faint trace of an Old God bent to his will,
- 19:07believed to be Gro-goroth. Nas'hrah can join our party,
- 19:10seeking to restore his body so he can destroy the New Gods altogether.
- 19:13His ego is on full display throughout, as he incinerates a clone
- 19:17of himself for being lackluster and does the same to the aged
- 19:20Francóis, the New God of Domination, if we find him in the present.
- 19:24He even warns us and Le'garde against sitting on the Golden Throne,
- 19:27claiming ascension changes nothing, a mistake he himself once made.
- 19:31But his arrogance has its limits,
- 19:32as bringing him before the traces of Gro-goroth sees him obliterated mid-insult.
- 19:37This leaves him as the scorched Beheaded Wizard
- 19:39being reduced to an accessory in Fear & Hunger
- 19:422. He was retrieved from the dungeons by the Yellow Mage O'saa.
- 19:45Sensing an event of cosmic proportions, Nas'hrah sends O'saa to Prehevil,
- 19:49seeking revenge on Le'garde for having ascended. But in O'saa's B ending,
- 19:53the Yellow Mage grows tired of taking orders and tosses Nas'hrah into a lake, where
- 19:57he now sits at the bottom until someone else is unlucky enough to come across him.
- 20:01A god reduced to a withered head at the bottom of a lake.
- 20:05Few falls in Fear & Hunger are quite as steep.
- 20:07But where each New God failed alone, five would try to defy the odds together.
- 20:12By the year 809, the kingdoms of the world were rotting,
- 20:15and without the Old Gods' guidance, mankind's ideals were fading. Five people
- 20:19formed a Fellowship to seek out the Old Gods and demand self-rule for humanity.
- 20:24Through an ancient tomb that served as a hub between planes of existence,
- 20:28they reached the same golden gates of Ma'habre that the
- 20:30christ-like Alll-mer passed through in his ascension.
- 20:33However, the Old Gods planted a seed of doubt in the fifth member,
- 20:36Nosramus, a scholar of many arts, by showing him how they had
- 20:39steered mankind for ages without anything changing for the better.
- 20:43Nosramus refused to ascend and disappeared, while the other four went ahead,
- 20:47tore down the Old Gods' legacy, and founded a novel age with the New Gods ruling,
- 20:52a reign that would last until 1590.
- 20:54Francóis, the Dominating One,
- 20:56set out to unify the warring lands and hungered for more power.
- 20:59He made the Golden Temple his fortress and guarded the Throne of
- 21:03Ascension so jealously that no New God ascended for nearly 800 years,
- 21:07roughly twice a normal cycle.
- 21:09He bred Jaggedjaw hounds to hunt trespassers, could transform his body into gold,
- 21:13and had visions of a "true Ma'habre" he believed he would reach
- 21:17with just a little more time.
- 21:18In the present, an older Francóis has finally understood the greater scheme,
- 21:23that true domination is an illusion and everyone is a puppet, and so he
- 21:26hands us a key and asks us to travel back in time to kill his younger self.
- 21:30Nilvan, the Endless One, believed in humanity's boundless potential,
- 21:34that anything could be achieved through persistence.
- 21:37She can step outside of physical reality and visit people in their dreams.
- 21:41But by the late 16th century,
- 21:42she knew her reign was coming to an end, and desperate to endure,
- 21:45she turned to the prophecy of a man who would unite the warring states, Le'garde.
- 21:50She met him in a dream and bore his child,
- 21:52the Girl who would become the God of Fear and Hunger.
- 21:55In her domain of the Endless Dream,
- 21:57she shows all of the main characters' pasts, and tests us with the Skin Granny.
- 22:01When victorious, she tasks us to take her daughter to the bottom of the dungeon,
- 22:05in hopes it would bring a new prosperous age for mankind.
- 22:08What she doesn't tell us is exactly what her daughter will become.
- 22:12Valteil, the Enlightened One, a former Dark Priest, succeeded Nas'hrah at
- 22:16the Grand Libraries and devoted his cycle to creating artificial life,
- 22:19believing it would close the gap between the New and Old Gods.
- 22:23He refused to make immortal creations like Ma'habre's clay figurines,
- 22:27fearing they would outlast him, and attempted to make them from flesh instead,
- 22:31with the abomination, the Lord of Flies being one of his creations.
- 22:35But after nearly 800 years, Valteil gave up,
- 22:37believing mankind's chains could never be broken and that Nosramus
- 22:41had been right to refuse, and hanged himself, waiting to perish.
- 22:44The Tormented One was once Ronn Chambara,
- 22:46a poet who believed great art could only be born from pain.
- 22:50As a New God, he flayed his own skin, tormenting himself for centuries,
- 22:53and he passed that anguish on to everything within his cursed temple of torment.
- 22:58To face him, we must sacrifice a party member,
- 23:00or a lifeless husk we can create in Nas'hrah's hidden laboratory.
- 23:04Despite his reign ending, he can still be communed with and summoned,
- 23:07as we see in Fear & Hunger 2.
- 23:09Offering a dead crow at an imperfect ritual circle will spawn the Tormented One,
- 23:13and defeating him unlocks his powerful chains of torment spell.
- 23:17Nosramus, the Forgotten One, never took the throne at all.
- 23:20He remained in the dungeons, studying blood magic,
- 23:22the gods, and lately the fading heartbeat of nature,
- 23:25sensing the changing times ahead. He is the one who helps Enki
- 23:29resist the throne's temptation in his Enlightenment ending,
- 23:32where Enki finds the same alternative path and prolonged life as Nosramus himself.
- 23:36But their age faded with time, as every New God's reign is destined to,
- 23:40and in 1590 our party personally puts an end to the Fellowship,
- 23:44consigning all four to the Grand Hall for eternity,
- 23:47where we can still see them sitting in Fear & Hunger 2.
- 23:50Even in the modern age, new gods keep appearing, and
- 23:53some of them are stranger than anything that came before.
- 23:56Termina introduces two more New Gods, each embodying a brand new soul type,
- 24:00along with one being that may not be a New God at all.
- 24:03All three are summoned at imperfect ritual circles,
- 24:05and all three remain largely a mystery.
- 24:07The Radiating One is summoned with a portrait of
- 24:10a young man whose face has been scratched away,
- 24:12and he trades rare items for rust-colored pearls,
- 24:15which are gathered from the Ronteal dirt patches.
- 24:18The Tainted One is summoned with severed heads,
- 24:20trading a soul stone shard for each one, and shares the same soul type with Marcoh.
- 24:24The New Gods only say she was born with a tainted soul and rose to godhood,
- 24:28but in a city where a sadistic cult collects heads,
- 24:31it's hard not to wonder who she truly serves.
- 24:33The final deity is The Heartless One, a secret superboss who was a recent New God,
- 24:38but looks to be retconned into an entirely different being when or if the Termina
- 24:42update ever drops, as the full list of soul types doesn't include a Heartless Soul.
- 24:47Nevertheless, she loathes the New Gods, calling them warmongering old farts. Miro,
- 24:51the game's creator, posted on Discord telling of her backstory and great strength.
- 24:56After atrocities were committed upon her youngest sister,
- 24:59she destroyed nearly 20,000 Eastern Union soldiers and 200 tanks.
- 25:03She is capable of flight, subsonic speed,
- 25:05and near invulnerability to firearms and artillery,
- 25:08making her one of the strongest, if not the strongest, New God we encounter.
- 25:12This could be due in part to her Red Virtue sword,
- 25:14one of the famed blades forged for the King of Ma'habre,
- 25:17and the Darkness armor, a symbiotic mail,
- 25:19though how she managed to get either is never fully explained. Despite her prowess,
- 25:24hundreds of high priests within the Vatican were able to weaken and subdue her,
- 25:27with only 2 of them living through it,
- 25:29and we find her locked within the Rher dimension of the Church's basement.
- 25:33Here we can release her using a key hidden in the church.
- 25:36Once freed, she can be summoned at a ritual circle for a one-on-one duel,
- 25:40granting us both of her powerful equipment pieces if victorious.
- 25:43But there was one New God different from the rest.
- 25:46One that could actually go against the grand scheme of the Old Gods.
- 25:49The Yellow King, Le'garde.
- 25:51As a human, he was captain of the Knights of the Midnight Sun,
- 25:54a commoner hero whose followers believed he was the prophesied unifier.
- 25:58The New Gods call his prophecy a fallacy,
- 26:00but even they admit there is something different about him,
- 26:03and that he started something larger.
- 26:04In fact, it's due to Le'garde that all four characters travel to the Dungeons
- 26:08of Fear & Hunger in the first game. Rondon feared his growing power,
- 26:11and when he invaded Oldegård to seize the Cube of the Depths, they had their excuse,
- 26:15capturing him and throwing him into the Dungeons of Fear and Hunger.
- 26:19However, it was all part of his plan: his capture, his torture,
- 26:22even the amnesia he fakes. When we rescue him, we find Le'garde doesn't have a soul,
- 26:27or at least not a normal one, as using a soul stone on his corpse bears no result.
- 26:31It may be due to his prophesied destiny,
- 26:33and it likely led to his New Godhood being so unique.
- 26:36Each god of the Fellowship holds one soul,
- 26:39and Le'garde sought to embody all four at once:
- 26:41torment through the torture he endured in the dungeon,
- 26:44enlightenment through the Cube,
- 26:46endlessness through consummating Nilvan in his dreams,
- 26:49and domination through his warring conquests.
- 26:51If he succeeded, he would stand above every New God.
- 26:54In Ending C, he takes the throne before we can,
- 26:57and in the Void we find him reborn as the Yellow King,
- 27:00his skin a sickly yellow color tinted by the Void's green.
- 27:03He offers us salvation, and if we kneel,
- 27:05the ending tells us of the Knights of the Midnight Sun returning to unite the West
- 27:09as if the Old Gods themselves were on his side. Decades later, he hasn't aged a day,
- 27:13no longer a man taking the reins of the gods, but something else entirely.
- 27:17We can also kill him within the Void, which sees us return to a world of struggle,
- 27:21with nightmares of the dungeon haunting us for the rest of our days.
- 27:25While the game never states which ending is canon, Termina shows us the
- 27:28birth of the God of Fear and Hunger and Le'garde's ascension took place.
- 27:32Le'garde does have the impact he sought on humanity,
- 27:34just not in the way he envisioned.
- 27:36His daughter became the God of Fear & Hunger, ushering in a new age
- 27:39of humanity where their own hunger and fear drive them forward.
- 27:43So when Le'garde emerges from the Void, the world no longer needs him as a savior.
- 27:47However, in D'arce's S Ending, there is a whole different story for Le'garde.
- 27:51She finds him dead in his cell and uses forbidden magic to bring him back,
- 27:54but he instead returns as a bloodthirsty ghoul having shed his human skin,
- 27:58becoming a vicious warlord.
- 27:59Some theorize this ghoul is the Le'garde we meet again centuries later,
- 28:03but the evidence points elsewhere.
- 28:05Because Le'garde's story doesn't end in the Void, or in the dungeons.
- 28:08Four hundred years later, he'll appear one last time,
- 28:11chasing the same promised land.
- 28:12But before we get there, we have to first understand what he helped create,
- 28:16and what humanity is truly capable of becoming.
- 28:18Every New God we've seen failed to rise to the level of the Old Gods.
- 28:22But twice in history, a human did succeed, and both times,
- 28:25the world was never the same again. Ascended Gods.
- 28:28Humans who have successfully risen to divinity by absorbing an Old God's essence.
- 28:32With the creation of each Ascended God, a new age of humanity comes with it,
- 28:37pushing the progress of mankind forward as religions and cults form around them.
- 28:41However, we only see the term "Ascended God" in the second Fear & Hunger,
- 28:45with Alll-mer simply being counted among the older gods in the first one,
- 28:49as his power rivals theirs.
- 28:50Ascended Gods can be communed with via perfection ritual circles,
- 28:54described in game as the circle of gods among men, and men among gods.
- 28:58Two are confirmed, with two more mysterious beings that may belong in their ranks.
- 29:02Le'garde never became the god he wanted to be. But his daughter did.
- 29:06The namesake of the series, the God of Fear and Hunger's birth and influence
- 29:10are pivotal to the overarching storyline. As a human, she was the Girl,
- 29:14a pure being raised in the dungeons who only knew fear and hunger.
- 29:17She was conceived by the New God Nilvan and the man of prophecy, Le'garde,
- 29:21an unholy union that allowed the Girl to be born with a soul of the Ancient One,
- 29:25radiating the light of an older god.
- 29:27In taking the Girl to the Altar of Darkness within the God of the Depths' body,
- 29:31her destiny is unlocked as she violently begins to morph,
- 29:34eventually progressing to her final form as the God of Fear and Hunger.
- 29:38Defeating her sees the newborn deity acknowledge our suffering
- 29:41before we meet our end at the bottom of the dungeon.
- 29:44With her creation, mankind was ushered into a new era known as the Cruel Age.
- 29:48People's fear motivated them while their hunger kept them moving forward,
- 29:52and they came to cherish hardship and find inspiration in it,
- 29:55eventually leading humanity into technological advancement
- 29:58and modern age we see in Fear & Hunger 2.
- 30:01In the modern world, she is a known god worshipped by some cults.
- 30:04Her power bestows vermin magic, Flesh Puppetry, and Rot.
- 30:07The God of Fear and Hunger's symbol represents two inward-facing R's,
- 30:11the same as the God of the Depths' symbol, embodying her ascension from it.
- 30:15Drawing it upon a ritual circle grants additional saves,
- 30:18and carving the symbol into one's face increases agility.
- 30:22However, the God of Fear and Hunger wasn't the first Ascended God,
- 30:25nor the most influential. That title lies with Alll-mer,
- 30:28a Christ-like figure who is revered and worshipped by many in both games.
- 30:32He too was once a mere mortal, but accounts of his origin tend to differ.
- 30:36The most popular account mirrors that of Jesus.
- 30:39He came from the city of Jettaiah in the Eastern Sanctuaries,
- 30:42born of a virgin mother and the seed of an unnamed false god,
- 30:46most likely a New God as with the Girl's creation.
- 30:48In his life he spread his teachings and gathered twelve apostles,
- 30:52aiming to unite people of differing religions and ideologies.
- 30:55But the kings and sultans of the time felt threatened,
- 30:57and he was arrested and sentenced to crucifixion.
- 31:00But only eleven of his apostles would return with him,
- 31:03and many believe the twelfth betrayed him.
- 31:05The skin bible written by Enki tells of another leading belief,
- 31:08that Alll-mer was crafted by the deity and architect of man, Vitruvia,
- 31:12who after designing mankind for the Old God Sylvian was disappointed in her work,
- 31:16and so set out to craft the perfect human being, resulting in Alll-mer,
- 31:19and he reckons the truth lies somewhere in the middle of these two beliefs.
- 31:23Either way, his crucifixion served Alll-mer, making him a martyr,
- 31:27and the pain of his torture pushed him to ascend to godhood.
- 31:30He spent three days and nights in the city of the gods,
- 31:33Ma'habre, before returning to the human world.
- 31:35But he returned spiteful, seeking revenge with his eleven faithful apostles and
- 31:39creating a bloodbath that slew the kings, sultans, and ruling New Gods of the era,
- 31:43restoring the old world order.
- 31:45Year 0 of the game's calendar marks the birth of his new self.
- 31:48The appearance of Alll-mer differs based on region,
- 31:51with the West of Europa picturing him in his ascended form,
- 31:54bald and muscular with a godly stature, whereas the Eastern
- 31:58Sanctuaries portray a thin man with long hair and Eastern features,
- 32:01more reminiscent of the human Alll-mer before ascension cost him his hair.
- 32:05Within the past version of the Tomb of the Gods,
- 32:08we find the massive body of Alll-mer in a secret passage underneath,
- 32:11with only a skeleton remaining in the present. Alll-mer's influence is widespread,
- 32:15with statues depicting his visage found in both games and him being the main
- 32:19figure of the church within Prehevil, as well as most of the Western world.
- 32:23Although he represents hope, he is often associated with human sacrifice,
- 32:27with followers wanting to crucify themselves to feel the pain their god
- 32:30went through, or sacrificing up to ten people on the cross for protection,
- 32:34and invoking his idea of vengeance to punish those who do wrong.
- 32:37One can raise their affinity with him by confessing sins,
- 32:40as we see in the church with O'saa;
- 32:42however, confessing to forcing oneself upon another won't raise it,
- 32:46showing the condemnation of lust by Alll-mer's followers.
- 32:49They are also the ones who shut down the brothel in Prehevil's Sylvian Square
- 32:52and opened the orphanage, the latter becoming an abusive place for children,
- 32:56though not what the followers most likely intended.
- 32:59Alll-mer's symbol represents the cross.
- 33:01It increases physical defense when carved into one's face,
- 33:04and opens blood portals for fast travel
- 33:06when drawn on a ritual circle.
- 33:07His magic blesses followers with movement abilities, some reflecting
- 33:11Christ-like miracles such as turning water into wine and walking on water.
- 33:15However, he does possess more violent magic, such as Blood Sword,
- 33:18allowing the caster to conjure a blade of blood to use in battle,
- 33:22and Inverse Crown of Thorns,
- 33:23an attempt for followers to feel the Ascended God's pain.
- 33:26Casting it is an instant game over, as the crown is too much to bear and
- 33:30crushes the player's head as an evil cackle is heard in the background.
- 33:34But this shows there being a darker side of Alll-mer which has
- 33:37been hiding in plain sight all along: the malevolent Sulfur God.
- 33:40A dark, sadistic deity that is hidden from the world,
- 33:43the Sulfur God leaves many clues to his existence
- 33:46and influence throughout the second Fear & Hunger,
- 33:48hinting at him being the satanic counterpart to Alll-mer's Christ image.
- 33:52While this god is purposefully shrouded in mystery,
- 33:55we do obtain concrete facts which we can use to build larger theories upon.
- 33:59The Cult of Sulfur has been secretly pulling the strings from the beginning,
- 34:03with Per'kele as its leader, as we learn in the hidden Ending
- 34:06C. If we kill all the other contestants before the third day and ascend the
- 34:10Hollow Tower, Per'kele congratulates our bloodlust and initiates us as the
- 34:14newest member of the Sulfur cult. The group uses the traces of Rher and the
- 34:18Festival of Termina for their own twisted means and to recruit new members,
- 34:22as initiation can only happen when someone purely commits heinous acts of violence,
- 34:26noted by Per'kele not being able to join the
- 34:29bloodshed himself until we are successful.
- 34:31To fully be made a member of the cult, we must face death head on, initiating
- 34:35mortal combat against Per'kele in which we both die from the wounds sustained,
- 34:39before being cast into the sulfuric pits to undergo our true transformation.
- 34:43It's described as a scorching sun burning our skin while
- 34:47long tendrils of cold freeze us from the inside out.
- 34:49Only then can we rise as a true follower of Sulfur, and Per'kele reveals
- 34:53he was reborn this way after winning a past Festival of Termina.
- 34:57We see other Sulfur cult members in Needles and Stitches,
- 35:00revealed by Daan to actually be his recently deceased loved ones,
- 35:04Baron Einher Von Dutch and his daughter Elise, Daan's fiancée.
- 35:07The Baron viciously murdered Elise before taking his own life in a dark
- 35:11ritual to an unknown god, later revealed to be Sulfur, and the pair were
- 35:15then resurrected for the Festival of Termina to take part in the mayhem.
- 35:19We also see the newest recruit, the Janitor,
- 35:21encountered in the prologue and believed to be the mass murderer
- 35:25of the White Mold Apartments, with a Sigil of Sulfur in his room,
- 35:28the heinous act that would allow him to join the Sulfur cult's ranks.
- 35:31It would seem those of the cult are given a twisted version of eternal life,
- 35:35being able to resurrect in a warped form,
- 35:37then returning to the sulfuric pits after death to rise again after torment.
- 35:41We see from battling Per'kele that he is still living despite his torso decomposing
- 35:45from his unnaturally long life. We learn more from recruiting the goat Black Kalev,
- 35:50revealed to be the mysterious Man in Black. Once he's in the party,
- 35:53if we carve 12 idols from the clay pillars in the Rher dimension,
- 35:56he appears to us, shedding light on his past and his involvement with Sulfur.
- 36:00He was once an apostle of Alll-mer, most likely the one who betrayed him.
- 36:04He tells how Alll-mer carved a similar idol of himself,
- 36:07as before he could ascend, he had to condense himself to his true essence,
- 36:11carving away the dark aspects of his subconscious. In the process,
- 36:14he was split into two beings, the pure Alll-mer and his imperfect shadow self.
- 36:18But humanity didn't want two gods, so the shadow was cast away,
- 36:21all the way down into the sulfuric pits, becoming the Sulfur God.
- 36:25But the Man in Black questions which part of Alll-mer was really cast away,
- 36:29suggesting the shadow self may be the true dominant one.
- 36:31We see evidence of Sulfur taking hold beneath Alll-mer's name throughout the game.
- 36:35Within the Church of Alll-mer,
- 36:37we find its congregation are actually followers of Sulfur,
- 36:40as the crypts below are littered with bodies and pools of blood,
- 36:43and the monstrous Crimson Fathers can flash an image of
- 36:46the Sulfur God into our minds when talked to in battle.
- 36:49O'saa even remarks that there are no traces of Alll-mer within the church,
- 36:52but something much more sinister. The statue in the back of the
- 36:55church shows their supposed Alll-mer carrying severed heads,
- 36:59and the Martyr effigy shows a crucified Alll-mer as a serpent crowned with thorns,
- 37:03both revealing the Sulfur God behind their Alll-mer worship.
- 37:06Even more, the ritualistic human sacrifice needed for protection seems more akin to
- 37:10a sadistic god than a benevolent one, aligning with the Sulfur cult's bloodshed,
- 37:15and the Alll-mer skills we can acquire in game all point toward Sulfur. Blood Sword
- 37:19and the Longinus blood spear we gain from Ending C share the same skill description,
- 37:24both telling of Alll-mer's blood still boiling and raging ages after his death,
- 37:28with every drop a weapon against his enemies.
- 37:30Boiling blood seems to better match the sulfuric pits than a god of hope.
- 37:34But their item descriptions reveal the difference.
- 37:36Blood Sword is simply forged from the blood of Alll-mer, while Longinus is the
- 37:40spear that punctured Alll-mer's side as he was chained and crucified, and a faint
- 37:44trace of the shadow that was cast away for Alll-mer to reach his ascension.
- 37:47and explains the wound we see on Alll-mer's statue in the first Fear
- 37:51& Hunger and on Sulfur's side, confirming the Man in Black's story.
- 37:54Sulfur isn't merely a legend, but the very shadow Alll-mer shed to become a god.
- 37:58And this is where things get truly unsettling. The final skill,
- 38:01Inverse Crown of Thorns, proposes to give a glimpse of the pain Alll-mer felt
- 38:05on the cross so the caster may feel closer to their savior, but results in an
- 38:09instant kill as their head is crushed with a demonic cackle in the background.
- 38:13Even the "inverse" in the name shows it's a flipped version of Alll-mer's original
- 38:17crown. Yet Alll-mer's influence is real. O'saa, a Yellow Mage from Abyssonia,
- 38:21can only tell that the church holds no trace of Alll-mer because he has
- 38:25felt the Ascended God's presence before, and the Eastern Sanctuaries,
- 38:28where Alll-mer actually lived, still remember a gentler and more human god,
- 38:32far from the head-carrying statue of Prehevil.
- 38:34So rather than replacing Alll-mer, it seems Sulfur has been hiding beneath his name,
- 38:38worshipped in his place by the priests of Prehevil. And with Alll-mer's Western
- 38:42image being so different from the man the East remembers, and even spells meant
- 38:46to bring followers closer to Alll-mer answering with sulfurous laughter instead,
- 38:50Prehevil may not be the only place where Alll-mer's shadow has taken his throne.
- 38:54But this also raises the question of why Rher, the moon god,
- 38:57would allow the cult to use his traces if he loathes ascended humans.
- 39:00The answer is that Rher isn't allowing anything at all.
- 39:03Rher departed from this world long ago,
- 39:05with his own skin bible describing him in an eternal slumber, and Per'kele
- 39:09describes the festival as a force of nature made possible by Rher's traces.
- 39:13The cult isn't serving the moon god, but hijacking what he left behind.
- 39:16Their goals still happen to align, as a festival that slays anyone with the
- 39:20potential to ascend serves Rher's purpose, whether he's watching or not.
- 39:24But as Samarie remarked, Prehevil seems to have been chosen for a reason,
- 39:28and we may be able to end the festival early if we can negate its purpose.
- 39:32As it turns out, the answer lies beneath the city itself,
- 39:35where an entirely new kind of Ascended God is about to be born. The Machine God.
- 39:39Every Ascended deity we've looked at so far was born through the old ways.
- 39:43But the Machine God is completely different.
- 39:46She is built by human hands, made of circuitry and wires to manifest
- 39:49an artificial green hue separate from the realms of the gods.
- 39:52She bears the name Logic, the same title of the project that spawned her,
- 39:56a massive engineering effort run by the Eastern Union from the White Bunker,
- 40:00buried deep beneath Prehevil.
- 40:02On paper, it was an advanced communications experiment, but its true
- 40:05purpose was to birth a god created entirely through humanity's own efforts.
- 40:09The documents we find in the bunker detail how it works.
- 40:12Logic would fuse a single human's consciousness with electronic technology,
- 40:16becoming a data bank for all of humanity,
- 40:18a shared consciousness able to provide anyone with the knowledge they needed,
- 40:22and a shared paradise so addictive that people would prefer the machine
- 40:26over one another, befriending fake friends who exist in the walls.
- 40:30Since no computer can calculate a human soul,
- 40:32a person must serve as its heart and be kept in a state of lucid dreaming,
- 40:36with the conscious and unconscious mind working together at full capacity.
- 40:40Logic reaches the outside world through telelectroscopes, machines named after
- 40:45a real 19th-century concept for transmitting images over telegraph wires.
- 40:49In Fear & Hunger, they send vast amounts of electronic signals along their cables,
- 40:53essentially an early form of the internet,
- 40:55gathering information from those connected to them.
- 40:57Three are hidden in bunkers across Prehevil,
- 40:59and they are also the key to the White Bunker itself,
- 41:02as all three must be activated before its vault door will open.
- 41:05But the project wasn't purely the Eastern Union's.
- 41:07Coded letters found in the hideout below
- 41:09Prehevil Bop, revealed to be the Nameless Liberty Underground's base,
- 41:12reveal that the Kaiser of Bremen was one of the main
- 41:15forces kickstarting the project long before the war began.
- 41:18When the Union handed Prehevil over in exchange for peace,
- 41:21they had no idea what they were giving him,
- 41:23and Bremen's entire campaign seems to have been aimed at this one city,
- 41:26as they abruptly ended the war
- 41:28once Prehevil was acquired.
- 41:29The Kaiser planned to launch Logic with himself as the heart,
- 41:32but someone else beat him to it.
- 41:34Reila Haas, Olivia's twin sister, was a gifted engineer from Bremen.
- 41:37She joined an exchange program with the Eastern Union,
- 41:40and was recruited into Project Logic, rising to become its head engineer. When
- 41:44she tried to warn Union officials of what Logic could become, they didn't listen.
- 41:48She was later jailed by Bremen for treason,
- 41:50until the Nameless Liberty Underground broke her out.
- 41:53Knowing the Kaiser was on his way, Reila rushed to Prehevil with the NLU. The Union
- 41:57had already abandoned the compound and caved in the rail tunnels behind them.
- 42:01Unsure whether the project was even complete, Reila knew she had to act before him.
- 42:05She breached the White Bunker, activated Logic early,
- 42:07and placed herself inside the machine in a lucid dream,
- 42:10becoming the vessel for the Machine God.
- 42:12This is why Logic's influence can be seen throughout Termina,
- 42:15most of all through Reila. She appears to us as a hologram,
- 42:18the girl in the red shoes, guiding us to activate the telelectroscopes.
- 42:22Her blue moths, the same ones from the sisters' childhood, mark our path.
- 42:25And she guides us away from the Janitor's trap on the train to safety,
- 42:29seen putting down a protection circle before we're drawn into the dream.
- 42:32When we finally reach the White Bunker, the Kaiser is waiting for us, and here,
- 42:36the truth is laid bare. The Kaiser is Le'garde, the Yellow King himself,
- 42:39four hundred years older and still chasing the same promised land.
- 42:42But he isn't here to claim the throne.
- 42:44Once again, he arrived too late, just as he did centuries earlier when
- 42:48his daughter ascended before him to become the God of Fear & Hunger.
- 42:51This time, however, he accepts it, telling us his role was never to be the god,
- 42:55but to arrange the pieces and set the wheels in motion.
- 42:58Now he guards Logic while her breath is still frail.
- 43:00Defeating the Kaiser, we come face to face with the Machine God herself.
- 43:04Her first form is a monolith of steel surrounded by tanks,
- 43:07burning us with electric arcs and overheating.
- 43:09If the battle lasts 13 rounds,
- 43:11the battle completely shifts as we are brought into the wooden Rher dimension.
- 43:15Logic transforms from Rher's moonlight,
- 43:17showing us a twisted form of the human inside the machine, healing her,
- 43:21and she can now cast blue moths through Moth Storm to drain our life.
- 43:24On either side are giant hands. one of creation and one of destruction,
- 43:28mirroring the Old Gods Sylvian and Gro-goroth,
- 43:31but now held by a man-made god of machines.
- 43:33Defeating her breaks open her monolith, revealing her true form in Ending A,
- 43:37with a cube bearing Vinushka's symbol crossed out embedded in her chest.
- 43:41It is similar to the Cube of the Depths, fitting for a deity about to ascend,
- 43:45but it isn't confirmed if it's just an opposite side of the depths
- 43:48cube or an entirely new one belonging to the dead god Vinushka.
- 43:52And Logic's symbol is an inverse of the God of Fear & Hunger's,
- 43:55showing her power as an Ascended God but opposite of the typical path.
- 43:58She invites us into the promised land,
- 44:00and if we're playing as Olivia, she calls to her sister by name,
- 44:03telling her she's found a way for them to always be together. Warmth, empathy,
- 44:06and hope wash over us as we close our eyes within the artificial green hue.
- 44:10The party that entered the White Bunker is never seen again,
- 44:13the festival ends without a victor,
- 44:15and the surviving contestants leave Prehevil alive.
- 44:17Her birth answers the question Le'garde spent centuries chasing.
- 44:21Humanity no longer has to live at the mercy of the Old Gods' traces.
- 44:24It has built a new world,
- 44:25and an artificial green hue where human souls can be connected in a paradise.
- 44:29And if the Project Logic notes are right,
- 44:32it will connect humanity like never before,
- 44:34even if people come to prefer the machine over one another.
- 44:37From the Old Gods who abandoned us, to the New Gods who failed us,
- 44:41to the Ascended Gods who remade us,
- 44:42every age of Fear & Hunger has begun with one god replacing another.
- 44:46But for the first time, humanity didn't need to borrow a deity from the Old Gods.
- 44:50It built one with its own hands. A man who spent centuries trying to
- 44:54become a god himself found peace as the chosen to make a true one.
- 44:58But the cycle has never been broken before,
- 45:00and if history in Fear & Hunger has taught us anything,
- 45:03it's that no god reigns forever.
- 45:05So the only question left is: what will rise to replace Logic?
- 45:08Yet despite all the deities we know, there remain those hidden in the shadows,
- 45:12ones even the New Gods are unaware of. But those are a story for another time,
- 45:17when we uncover the Hidden Gods of Fear & Hunger.
