- 2:02this is
- 2:03[Music]
- 2:27morbid yeah it is today we're doing a
- 2:30Survivor tale oo I feel like we haven't
- 2:33done a Survivor Tale in a minute we have
- 2:36not and this one I have had on my list
- 2:39forever but was scared to do it because
- 2:42it's a plane crash Survivor have you
- 2:45ever really talked that in depth about
- 2:47your fear of f I've probably mentioned
- 2:49it I don't know how how far I've gone
- 2:52into it so we're going to be covering um
- 2:54the survival tale of Julianne
- 2:56Copa um this was back in 1971
- 3:00we're going to go through what happened
- 3:02her life and her journey after she
- 3:06survived
- 3:07Julianne I'm telling you guys after you
- 3:10hear this go read her book like go to
- 3:14learn more about her like like she is
- 3:16such an inspiring lady oo so inspiring
- 3:20like outrageously inspiring she flies
- 3:23all the time now after this and when you
- 3:25hear what happened you're going to be
- 3:26like excuse me so this is actually I
- 3:29didn't know if this was going to help or
- 3:31hurt do you think it helped I think it
- 3:33helped okay because I'm like well [ __ ]
- 3:36me if Julianne can get on flights what
- 3:39the hell am I complaining about like
- 3:41what the hell you're like I've never
- 3:42gone down in a fiery crash oh Lord why
- 3:44would you say that out loud so Jesus
- 3:48Christ well I didn't mean it like that
- 3:51um I thought we were
- 3:53out never will knocking on all the wood
- 3:57but yeah uh so no sorry so so I have a
- 4:01uh debilitating fear of flying yes and
- 4:04when I say debilitating I mean uh Ash
- 4:06witnessed it for the first time last
- 4:08year yeah and I literally walk into the
- 4:12plane in tears like I I've seen Elena
- 4:15cry maybe like a handful of times in my
- 4:17life I think like when sad things in our
- 4:19family have happened or like Bubba like
- 4:21I would say like maybe three to five
- 4:23times and you walking onto a plane was
- 4:25one of them and I've also never seen you
- 4:28look scared yeah other than when you're
- 4:31getting on a plane it's honestly I can
- 4:33say for sure it's the only time I feel
- 4:36completely out of control of myself and
- 4:38my emotions well you kind of I mean you
- 4:40are control truly fearful like I have
- 4:44never felt fear like I fell walking onto
- 4:46a plane I think a fear of flying is one
- 4:48of the easiest fears to kind of
- 4:51comprehend like from an outsider's
- 4:52perspective cuz it it makes sense cuz
- 4:55you're just kind of like how do we fly
- 4:56up there how do it happen I don't like
- 4:58to think about it too much but honestly
- 5:00thinking about it actually helps more
- 5:02because it will help you understand
- 5:03that's at least it helped me yeah I
- 5:05don't know if it'll help everybody I'm
- 5:06not going to sit here and be like it'll
- 5:08help everyone across the board but I can
- 5:10tell you the people I've talked to that
- 5:12also have dealt with fears of flying so
- 5:15they found comfort in look like there's
- 5:17a lot of books and honestly I'll I'm
- 5:19going to link the books in the show
- 5:20notes to just in case some of you have a
- 5:23fear of flying it's a common fear you
- 5:25know and I'm telling you I don't know if
- 5:28you have a fear of flying if listening
- 5:29to this episode is going to help or hurt
- 5:31you so I'm not going to sit here and
- 5:32claim it did it helped me researching it
- 5:35but I don't know if it's going to freak
- 5:37someone out that has a fear of flying so
- 5:39just know that going in but I will link
- 5:41the books because I got a few books that
- 5:43helped like understand the mechanics of
- 5:45flying okay and understand the physics
- 5:47and understand airf flow and understand
- 5:49wind shear and understand what
- 5:50turbulence actually is and jell it makes
- 5:53you understand the whole thing so you're
- 5:55kind of up there and you're like all
- 5:56right so that's what that bump was okay
- 5:58so that bump isn't a big deal because
- 6:00that's what's happening or like you know
- 6:02the the the Earth is cooling at an
- 6:04irregular rate and that's why I felt a
- 6:05little bump because it let like push
- 6:07some a up like and it's actually kind of
- 6:09interesting okay yeah I mean well and
- 6:11you love science too so it's very
- 6:13sciencey it's like a nice way of just
- 6:14like making it tangible I think like I
- 6:17need something that I can hold on to I
- 6:19just statistics don't really help me I
- 6:21need like tangible things to be like
- 6:23understand that this makes sense but I
- 6:25will tell you that I I'm literally like
- 6:30like I I get all the physical symptoms
- 6:32of anxiety on a flight I I burst into
- 6:35tears in the middle of a flight as soon
- 6:37as a bump hits I will look over at John
- 6:39and he always says the look in my eyes
- 6:41is like nothing he's ever seen like it's
- 6:43always just pure fear oh yeah when we
- 6:45flew together me and Drew were in the
- 6:47front and you were closer to the back
- 6:48and watching you uh walk to your seat I
- 6:51I've never in my life seen you look as
- 6:53scared us in that moment it's like
- 6:55walking to an execution to me it's like
- 6:57what I would think it looked like yeah
- 6:59like walking Down The Green Mile I feel
- 7:00like that's how it feels to me but after
- 7:04like learning about all this I was like
- 7:06well Julian just gets on planes now
- 7:09that's crazy and she just gets on planes
- 7:11to do like really good [ __ ] for like the
- 7:13environment and for like animals and to
- 7:15like further research and [ __ ] and to
- 7:17like better herself and I'm like well if
- 7:19Julian can do that after what I'm about
- 7:22to tell you like I can stop are you
- 7:24having like um like a Patrick suy Don uh
- 7:27Donnie Darko moment with the little kid
- 7:29and he's like I'm not afraid I'm not
- 7:31afraid anymore that's literally me right
- 7:34now let's hope it carries on until like
- 7:36going to Disney with the kids and stuff
- 7:38and getting on a plane but you know this
- 7:40is this is an amazing tale so first I'm
- 7:44going to talk about you know Julianne
- 7:47who she is how she grew up because it is
- 7:49a huge part of how she survived okay so
- 7:52we're going to talk about Julianne Copa
- 7:55and like I said I'm terrified of flying
- 7:58so this was definitely immersive therapy
- 8:00for me and I'm glad I did it finally um
- 8:03but I know that things have changed in
- 8:05Airline safety now and that this wasn't
- 8:08even in you know the United States so it
- 8:10was like a totally different set of
- 8:11protocols and all that this was also in
- 8:13the 70s anything went we're going to
- 8:15find out that this Airline was not great
- 8:21this quote unquote Airline I honestly
- 8:23would say quote unquote Airline it's not
- 8:25around anymore it ended right after this
- 8:27actually so don't worry about that but
- 8:29but this is a terrifying tale that does
- 8:32it does turn into like a tale of
- 8:34perseverance of strength of like
- 8:37inspiration it's wild Julian's a badass
- 8:40she's a real Testament to what the human
- 8:43body the mind and honestly like the
- 8:45human Spirit can withstand and endure um
- 8:49so what happened was December 24th 1971
- 8:5317-year-old Julianne Copa and her mother
- 8:56Maria were set to take a flight to paopa
- 8:59from Lima Peru pppo was about 450 Mi
- 9:03away from where they were and the flight
- 9:05would have only been about an hour they
- 9:06had done it before but the airline they
- 9:09were essentially forced to take this
- 9:11flight on had a long history of tragic
- 9:14and terrifying air disasters and in fact
- 9:17the plane that they took this flight on
- 9:20was the only plane that the airplane
- 9:22Airline had left because they had lost
- 9:24so many planes are you [ __ ] kidding
- 9:26me this was it yeah oh so backing up
- 9:31we're going to talk about Julianne first
- 9:32Julianne Copa was born in October of
- 9:351954 in Lima Peru her parents were Maria
- 9:39who she took this flight with and her
- 9:41father was Hans wilheim originally he
- 9:44was from Germany um Hans and Maria had
- 9:47met each other while they were in a
- 9:48biology doctoral doctorial doctoral
- 9:52program in Keel oh how [ __ ] rad they
- 9:54were both brilliant clearly like
- 9:56brilliant this is a brilliant family
- 9:59they had focused and excelled in
- 10:00studying Ornithology and this is the
- 10:03study of birds essentially oh cool they
- 10:05also were heavily focused purely on
- 10:07zoology they were just very interested
- 10:10in animals like Flora of the Amazon they
- 10:13were they the research they did is like
- 10:16outrageous and it's still going on today
- 10:18um once they graduated they were looking
- 10:20to live in an area where they could like
- 10:22really dig their heels in and have a
- 10:24diverse and exciting field to put their
- 10:26degrees to good use in they found that
- 10:29Peru was just that place because there
- 10:31was a lot of unexplored areas of very
- 10:33highly diverse creatures there so they
- 10:36moved together and they married there as
- 10:38well and this was a massive thing at the
- 10:41time because during this time it was
- 10:42wildly taboo and completely unheard of
- 10:45really for a woman to even get a
- 10:47doctorate degree especially in a
- 10:50scientific field of study but then Maria
- 10:52took it to another level when she moved
- 10:55with Hans to a foreign country before
- 10:57they were even married level up level up
- 11:00taboo
- 11:00taboo Maria was a super strong really
- 11:05determined and completely capable woman
- 11:08and Julianne is exactly like her in
- 11:11every way truly in fact this is likely
- 11:14what allowed Julianne to survive when
- 11:16the odds were catastrophically stacked
- 11:19against her in fact just to show you
- 11:21what kind of woman Maria was she was
- 11:24once on a two-month Excursion into the
- 11:26Amazon in
- 11:271955 when she was involved in a severe
- 11:30accident A truck hit a power line and it
- 11:33ended up hitting Maria oh man she lost
- 11:35her sense of smell and taste from this
- 11:38and suffered serious injuries but her
- 11:40only concern was how she was missing
- 11:42work and wanted to get back to it oh my
- 11:44God like just like I want to keep doing
- 11:48my research good for her julienne later
- 11:50said that when she was able to see her
- 11:51mother in her work environment she was
- 11:53struck by how patient and tenacious at
- 11:56the same time she was and she said
- 11:58nothing would DET her mother from a goal
- 12:00she this served her really well because
- 12:02Maria published several books and P
- 12:05pamphlets on zoology and Ornithology and
- 12:07was one of the most renowned or
- 12:09anthologists in Peru how incredible is
- 12:12that and this is that's incredible
- 12:14anyways but the fact that women just
- 12:16like weren't really allowed to do this
- 12:19back then or weren't credited she just
- 12:22plowed through any boundaries that were
- 12:25like figurative or physical in front of
- 12:27her was like no I'm doing this she was
- 12:29like I don't give a [ __ ] I'm going to do
- 12:31it yeah she's a badass now her father
- 12:33Hans was just like Maria like they found
- 12:35their match in each other Hans was
- 12:37someone who never backed down and never
- 12:39complained either he just did what he
- 12:42wanted to do did what he had to do never
- 12:44complained whenever I hear about
- 12:45somebody that doesn't complain I'm like
- 12:47I complain so much and then I'm like I
- 12:50should stop doing that like H yeah I
- 12:52know but he had a lot of adventure and a
- 12:55lot of hard work under his belt and
- 12:56Julian was always in awe of him as well
- 12:59of her as her mother she said she was
- 13:00just always impressed by her parents
- 13:02those are like the two most incredible
- 13:03Role Models you could have and it's like
- 13:06that's all you want as a parent is for
- 13:08your kid to be like wow I'm in awe of my
- 13:10parents totally you know and he actually
- 13:12wrote a book about zoology and am
- 13:15aminals
- 13:17amals I the kids too much I did and I
- 13:20was about to say Amazon and animals at
- 13:22the same time so I just revers them
- 13:24animals in the Amazon rainforest called
- 13:28the basis for universally valid
- 13:30biological theory that do you know it uh
- 13:33it's a massive Tome of knowledge at over
- 13:371600 pages and covers everything you
- 13:41could ever want to know about animal
- 13:42life in the rainforest that's wild like
- 13:45wild wildly he had survived his own
- 13:48perils in his lifetime as well he had
- 13:50been offered a job in South America and
- 13:52this being the 14 the 1940s when this
- 13:55happened um he had to make his own way
- 13:57there so he hitch hitchhiked and hiked
- 14:01on his own through the Alps to get there
- 14:03the [ __ ] then when he was later in Italy
- 14:06for his studies he was kidnapped and
- 14:08held in a prison camp in Naples and he
- 14:12escaped and my ass this morning is like
- 14:14I don't want to get out of f yeah I was
- 14:16like tired like they didn't do my coffee
- 14:19right at Starbucks [ __ ] my whole day
- 14:22is ruined like godamn this honestly this
- 14:25was a good it's a wake Cas to begin the
- 14:28new year with yeah because it gave me
- 14:30this like Oh shut the [ __ ] up energy
- 14:33like just do your job so what she wrote
- 14:36in her book which is I fell from the sky
- 14:40oh yeah it's I'll again I'll link it in
- 14:43the show notes when I fell from the sky
- 14:45it's an amazing book I'm proud of you
- 14:47for even saying those words yeah it's an
- 14:50amazing book it really imagine but my
- 14:53God is it terrifying she said I often
- 14:55think of my father's long arduous
- 14:57Odyssey when I find myself in danger of
- 14:59becoming a little dispirited yeah and
- 15:02she said his story is an illustration
- 15:04for me that it pays not to let things
- 15:06get you down girl I'm saying isn't this
- 15:09this is a good like happy New Year let's
- 15:11listen to Julian Julien is writing my
- 15:14Anthem they she is she's writing
- 15:15everything so they had both built really
- 15:18impressive lives and careers around
- 15:20themselves through hard work and just
- 15:22discipline and perseverance and passion
- 15:25they were thriving as a family after
- 15:28their wedding in Lima Peru Maria found
- 15:30out that she was pregnant with her
- 15:32remarkable daughter Julianne I love this
- 15:34story so far but I'm getting sad cuz I
- 15:36know I know they did have a wonderful
- 15:38life together I will say that good after
- 15:40Julian was born in 1951 hans's brother
- 15:44uh Yokum moved to Lima as well and this
- 15:46was hans's brother y uh unfortunately
- 15:49Yokum he died shortly after moving due
- 15:51to spasms I guess but it was tragic and
- 15:55still the cause of death is completely
- 15:57unknown and after his death hans's
- 15:59mother and his sister traveled to Peru
- 16:01to be with the little family and to kind
- 16:04of just like welcome Julianne into the
- 16:06world kind of like a sad moment yeah do
- 16:08you think spasms was like seizures I
- 16:11think it probably was just didn't
- 16:12realize it yeah I imagine that it was
- 16:14probably like you know epilepsy right
- 16:17now Julian's childhood seemed like it
- 16:18was pretty wonderful I could it sounds
- 16:21like it she remembers being surrounded
- 16:23by animals and family which sounds
- 16:25pretty great for a kid oh my God it's
- 16:27like the [ __ ] Wild Thornberries
- 16:28really is it just hit me there you go
- 16:31she also learned compassion and hard
- 16:33work very early on from her very
- 16:35impressive and very hardworking parents
- 16:37she would help her mother a lot nursing
- 16:39sick birds and taking care of young
- 16:41chicks that lived in their home God
- 16:43because Maria would take in any sick
- 16:46bird and she would nurse them back to
- 16:47health always love can you imagine how
- 16:49rewarding that would be and seeing your
- 16:51mother like that is teaching true
- 16:53empathy and compassion for something
- 16:55that you that like most people don't
- 16:57show compassion for it's so true and
- 17:00something that can't give anything back
- 17:01to you it's just something that you are
- 17:03purely giving to and not getting
- 17:06anything back but you just a sense of I
- 17:08helped that that's the main thing there
- 17:10is like it can't do anything for I mean
- 17:12you know it it can be beautiful exactly
- 17:14but it's return it's not going to sit
- 17:16there and like you know pay the bill at
- 17:18the end you know just going to say that
- 17:20but in fact through all of the hundreds
- 17:23and hundreds of birds that Maria and her
- 17:25daughter brought into their home sick or
- 17:27injured not one of them died under
- 17:29Maria's care wow all of them were saved
- 17:33the importance of compassion and
- 17:34kindness were certainly a big deal in
- 17:36their home but they also needed to make
- 17:38sure that Julianne knew the Perils of
- 17:40living in the Amazon rainforest they
- 17:42taught her a deep appreciation for the
- 17:44Wonders but also the vast dangers that
- 17:48lurked within it totally she was quickly
- 17:50shown how to survive and navigate the
- 17:52world around her without modern
- 17:54technology they wanted her to always be
- 17:56prepared to make something out of
- 17:58absolutely nothing nothing and it's so
- 18:00fortunate that they did that I was going
- 18:02to say it sounds like it would have been
- 18:03a major key oh the most so they took her
- 18:07as young as 5 years old onto hikes with
- 18:09them through the Amazon where they would
- 18:11camp out in very simple tents or
- 18:13sleeping open and sleeping bags wow and
- 18:16taught her how to survive there my
- 18:17goodness and what to avoid what would
- 18:19help her what kind of things she could
- 18:21eat what she shouldn't even touch how
- 18:23animals act around humans when they're
- 18:25going to attack how animals act when
- 18:27they are just curious you know all of
- 18:30that but because of her parents hard
- 18:32work and willingness to make themselves
- 18:33uncomfortable for their careers and
- 18:35betterment of their family's lives they
- 18:37were doing pretty well financially they
- 18:40had a maid Alita who Julien became very
- 18:43close to in fact she is still close to
- 18:46her today I love that they still have a
- 18:48relationship she had very fond memories
- 18:51of this time in her life and she said
- 18:52the people that she was surrounded by
- 18:55like the best kind of people sounds like
- 18:57it when she was of age Julianne attended
- 18:59the Alexander Von homol school um it's a
- 19:03German Peruvian private school in Lima
- 19:06this school was pretty prestigious and
- 19:08was mainly catered towards International
- 19:10students from like pretty wealthy
- 19:12families she had friends and again holds
- 19:15very good memories of this time in her
- 19:17life she said every she was a very
- 19:18normal kid very happy very healthy yeah
- 19:21it had always been Hans and Maria's
- 19:23dream to take their research and
- 19:24conservation passions and skills to
- 19:26another level and they wanted to open a
- 19:29conservation and Research Center in the
- 19:31Peruvian jungle how [ __ ] awesome and
- 19:34they did I knew it of course they did
- 19:36you didn't even have to say that they
- 19:37did they were finally able to achieve
- 19:39this in 1968 when they opened their
- 19:41facility called panguana in
- 19:441968 there they planned to live deep in
- 19:47the Peruvian jungle they thought for
- 19:48about 5 years studying the native flora
- 19:51and fauna the thing was panguana was far
- 19:55away like really far into the jungle it
- 19:57took days and days and days to travel
- 20:00through Rivers Trails jungles it was
- 20:03super dangerous it was long it was
- 20:05arduous during their Trek they would
- 20:07sleep wrapped in wool blankets on
- 20:10Riverbanks God and had to truly use all
- 20:12of their skills to survive together but
- 20:15Julianne later said that at the time of
- 20:17this journey she was 14 years old wow
- 20:20and she said at the time she wasn't
- 20:21psyched at the idea of living in the
- 20:23jungle for years she's like I loved the
- 20:25whole thing but like I didn't want to
- 20:27actually live in the J jungle for years
- 20:29she said quote I was less than thrilled
- 20:31by the idea of living in the jungle I
- 20:33imagined sitting all day in the Gloom
- 20:35under tall trees whose dense canopy of
- 20:37leaves wouldn't let a single Ray of
- 20:39sunlight in but luckily because of her
- 20:41closeness with her parents and her
- 20:43adventurous and very adaptive Spirit she
- 20:46was able to really find that she loved
- 20:48living in the jungle with her parents
- 20:50she leaned in it wasn't easy though they
- 20:52had a house that was on stilts and had
- 20:54no like it had like half walls and just
- 20:57like a canopy over it wow it had to be
- 21:00really high like very high to stay away
- 21:02from predators and flooding and she
- 21:04would have to stay away from poisonous
- 21:06creatures like spiders and snakes and
- 21:08all that while doing just about
- 21:09everything yeah anything like sleeping
- 21:12yeah and all manner of animals were all
- 21:14up in her business at any given time
- 21:16like bats in like in the house like you
- 21:18know fruit bats and they would there
- 21:21would be all kinds of like things just
- 21:22crawling in there and they'd have to
- 21:24make sure that they were out and not
- 21:25poisonous there was no electricity no
- 21:28water because they didn't want any
- 21:30modern devices making noise to scare
- 21:33animals away like they didn't want a
- 21:34generator cuz that would keep all
- 21:36animals away right so they just they
- 21:38were
- 21:39researching so her whole life had led up
- 21:42to this she had been taught to survive
- 21:44thrive and to live with animals in the
- 21:46wild her whole life and now she was
- 21:48legitimately putting those skills to the
- 21:50test and she was gaining a lot of new
- 21:52ones every day that she lived there she
- 21:54became even closer to her parents during
- 21:56this time and they really soaked in what
- 21:59they had to teach her while she was
- 22:01there now after a year and a half in
- 22:031970 unfortunately this way of life had
- 22:06had to come to an end because the powers
- 22:08that be started to become concerned that
- 22:10Julianne although she was doing
- 22:12homeschooling was not receiving a proper
- 22:14education in the jungle and they said if
- 22:17she didn't return to Lima to take on a
- 22:19regular school curriculum they weren't
- 22:21going to let her graduate they all
- 22:23understood this I was going to say you
- 22:24have to no one fought this everyone was
- 22:26like we get it yeah well and they are
- 22:27two people that are like college
- 22:29educated and they were like you know
- 22:31what she has great experience plenty and
- 22:35we are glad we gave that to her and now
- 22:37she's got to do this but now she can
- 22:38finish she can always come back exactly
- 22:40now luckily because she was surrounded
- 22:42her whole life by her family and people
- 22:43who loved her um she was able to stay
- 22:46with family friends in Lima and continue
- 22:49her schooling at the same school while
- 22:51her parents stayed at panguana okay now
- 22:53Julian was always one to adapt in the
- 22:56jungle and in social situations she was
- 22:58a Survivor through and through so she
- 23:00fell right back into the traditional
- 23:03like School environment like nothing
- 23:05happened can you imagine one day and
- 23:07you're you're in the jungle and the next
- 23:08you're in a desk yeah I've just been
- 23:10living in the jungle for a year and a
- 23:11half and here I am I'm at a desk and
- 23:13like nothing's changed like we got new
- 23:15kids all the time but like none like
- 23:17that imagine that [ __ ] new kid
- 23:18showing up not that she was new she was
- 23:21jul it's like whatever like nothing's
- 23:23changed so cool she fell right back into
- 23:25the Traditional School environment right
- 23:27back in with her group of friends
- 23:29she refer to this as quote a wonderful
- 23:31light-hearted time and one that helped
- 23:33her grow in a different way than her
- 23:35adventurous time in the jungle day yeah
- 23:37so the following year in December of
- 23:391971 Julianne had blasted through her
- 23:42curriculum and had earned the credits
- 23:45and all the grades to graduate she would
- 23:47graduate on December 23rd
- 23:491971 she was also looking forward to the
- 23:52fiesta de prom promo I believe it is
- 23:56which is a party thrown by the school to
- 23:58celebrate graduation as well that's
- 23:59awesome her mother Maria traveled to
- 24:02Lima that November to spend time with
- 24:04julienne and they had planned to fly
- 24:06back to paopa after
- 24:08graduation they would spend the holidays
- 24:10together and the Maria would travel back
- 24:12to panguana Maria had actually intended
- 24:15to leave a few days earlier but Julianne
- 24:17had wanted her understandably to stay
- 24:19for graduation so she stayed she didn't
- 24:22leave earlier so Maria initially tried
- 24:24to book them a flight on faucet Airlines
- 24:27but unfortun Ely with the holidays there
- 24:30was no tickets so the literal only
- 24:33option they had was lan Airlines because
- 24:37they were the only other airline that
- 24:38actually flew to poopa this Airline was
- 24:42bad it had a very bad history of crashes
- 24:47and mishaps and Hans that her father was
- 24:51horrified that they were going to be
- 24:53flying on it well you said they only had
- 24:55one plane left cuz all the others had
- 24:56been demolished yeah this is the last
- 24:58plane that's like that alone I'd be like
- 25:00no no Hans actually insisted they cancel
- 25:03and book with another airline even if it
- 25:06meant staying another day he was like I
- 25:08don't want you coming on that but Maria
- 25:10wanted to get back home really bad and
- 25:12she didn't want to wait so Lan had 20
- 25:16years of terrible history behind it in
- 25:181971 just to name a few a 1948 at lancea
- 25:23flight from Colombia crashed 5 minutes
- 25:25after takeoff and killed everyone on
- 25:28board oh my God most of these crashes by
- 25:30the way if not all of them are due to
- 25:32Pilot error and lack maintenance on the
- 25:35planes so they just weren't they didn't
- 25:37care they were hiring anybody and not
- 25:39taking care of their planes less than
- 25:40two years after that a lance of flight
- 25:42crashed into the side of a volcano in
- 25:44southern Colombia oh my God and one year
- 25:47after that another crash occurred where
- 25:4927 passengers and crew were all killed
- 25:52in 1966 a lan of Flight 101 carrying 49
- 25:56people went missing in the Andes and it
- 25:58was found that due to Pilot error it had
- 26:01crashed into a mountain side my God in
- 26:031970 a lance oflight 502 from Cusco to
- 26:07Lima carrying 99 passengers 50 high
- 26:10school students as well dropped from the
- 26:13sky when an engine stopped working
- 26:15because it caught on [ __ ] fire oh my
- 26:18God LAX engine maintenance and pilot
- 26:20error were were this issue double time
- 26:23so it was checkered God it it's like
- 26:27you're how are you flying to the side of
- 26:28a volcano in a mountain you're not
- 26:30supposed to be that low no supposed to
- 26:32be way up it's pilot error these are all
- 26:35nothing is being maintained was being
- 26:37maintained on this air like were they
- 26:39Pilots even that's what I'm saying so
- 26:41this was definitely checkered uh it was
- 26:43bad it was tragic nightmare airline in
- 26:46fact people would say about Lan lancea
- 26:48lands on its belly ah but sometimes
- 26:52these things these things seem less dire
- 26:54when you really want to get home and
- 26:57sometimes
- 26:58you don't take it all into consideration
- 27:01it's like one of those things or when
- 27:02you're 19 and you book a little bit of a
- 27:04wild flight to Texas and you're just
- 27:06like oh the $120 flight I'll take it
- 27:08yeah you did that so I'm still astounded
- 27:11by that I did there and back I'm
- 27:13astounded by that that was a cheap ass
- 27:15flight so Maria told actually said to
- 27:18Hans not every plane's going to
- 27:22crash and book the tickets for December
- 27:2524th so Christmas Eve Julie and her
- 27:28mother arrived to chaos at the airport
- 27:31because of the booked Airlines everyone
- 27:33was vying for the remaining lances
- 27:36flight and since Lan had crashed so many
- 27:38planes like I said they only had the one
- 27:41there was one plane left in this entire
- 27:43Airline but this one plane Julianne said
- 27:46she looked out and she was like I don't
- 27:48know it looked brand new to me all right
- 27:50she's like it looked fine like it didn't
- 27:52look like it was beat up it's not like I
- 27:54looked over there and there's like a
- 27:55propeller hanging from it like it's just
- 27:56like wasn't all crusty and Dusty it
- 27:58looked like a plane so she said she
- 28:00believed it looked completely fine
- 28:02completely fright like to this day she's
- 28:04like it's not if I had looked out there
- 28:06and it looked janky I probably would
- 28:08have questioned a little bit but she was
- 28:09like you look at a plane that looks
- 28:11brand new you don't know what the hell
- 28:13are you supposed to know exactly now Lan
- 28:14oflight 508 model
- 28:18l188
- 28:1988a was actually a plane that was
- 28:22designed specifically for flying in
- 28:24desert conditions so not the rain Forest
- 28:28no this would be a flight through the
- 28:30Andes it was not made for this at all
- 28:34and actually could not withstand heavy
- 28:36tur turbulence which you would
- 28:37undoubtedly face over mountains in
- 28:39rainforest oh no as if this isn't bad
- 28:42enough like and this is wild as if it
- 28:45wasn't bad enough this plane was also
- 28:48made with spare parts of other airl
- 28:51airplan airplanes I don't know why I
- 28:53can't talk sorry spare parts spare parts
- 28:56from like whatever plane girly this was
- 28:58a junkyard plane this was just put to it
- 29:01was a Frankenstein plane this was Herby
- 29:03fully loaded but worse this was Herby
- 29:06not loaded this was yeah this is bad
- 29:09this is just herb but at the time no one
- 29:12knew this so it's like no one was told
- 29:15hey by the way this plane is made from
- 29:17pieces of other planes I think they
- 29:19would all question that a little bit oh
- 29:20my God I like can't breathe now Maria
- 29:23and Julianne sat in the second to last
- 29:25row 19 the flight like I said was
- 29:28supposed to be an hour and there were 92
- 29:30passengers on board about halfway into
- 29:32the flight 30 minutes or so they brought
- 29:34lunch and as they collected it a bit
- 29:36later they entered directly into a
- 29:39stormy patch of clouds uh a thunderstorm
- 29:42Julian now I know now after doing a lot
- 29:46of research that like Pilots don't want
- 29:49to fly through storms and they don't
- 29:51they will divert the airplane around the
- 29:53storm even if it means adding some extra
- 29:56time to your flight of course I would
- 29:58much rather that and we would all much
- 30:00rather that Julianne says she felt a
- 30:02jolt in some severe turbulence luggage
- 30:05and things began falling from the
- 30:06overhead bins Panic started ensuing
- 30:09pretty immediately she said and this is
- 30:12going to get very this I can feel my
- 30:14entire body like lighting up right now
- 30:16so if you have a fear of flying even if
- 30:18you don't I am going to talk about a
- 30:20pretty SP car experience on a plane yeah
- 30:23if you would like to skip ahead a little
- 30:24bit I understand if you don't want to
- 30:26hear this part it's going to be pretty
- 30:28quick I don't have a and I'm like not
- 30:30even kidding you I'm in my like Fighter
- 30:32for she like holding her hands so this
- 30:34is like a little scary I just want to
- 30:35tell everybody um because this is like
- 30:38woo like my whole body but this
- 30:39immersive therapy we're going to be okay
- 30:41proud of you for doing this oh all right
- 30:43so she said cuz I'm like Julian lived
- 30:46this so I can talk about it you know I
- 30:48mean like like if she can live through
- 30:50this and get on another plane I can
- 30:51[ __ ] talk about it and her story
- 30:53deserves recognition cuz she's a [ __ ]
- 30:55badass and I'm assuming Maria pass
- 30:58her
- 31:00stes so she said her mother was clearly
- 31:02anxious as this began happening and then
- 31:05she remembers a flash of white light as
- 31:07lightning struck the white right wing of
- 31:09the plane oh my God now I would like to
- 31:12say right now lightning hits planes yeah
- 31:15that happens toy Cyrus recently but
- 31:18there are things put in Planes now and
- 31:21have been for a while that divert the
- 31:24energy from that lightning out of the
- 31:26plane so it does not touch the
- 31:28electrical system it's not going to
- 31:29explode the electrical system in fact if
- 31:32it does anything to a plane which it
- 31:35rarely does anything you never have any
- 31:37evidence of a lightning strike it can
- 31:39literally like make a pole that's like a
- 31:41dime size in the and it will do nothing
- 31:44okay just to put that out there cuz I
- 31:46looked it up yeah I scared of it but
- 31:49it's something that is in the plane that
- 31:52literally like throws the energy out of
- 31:55the plane it diverts it across the wings
- 31:56and out of the Wings and you can
- 31:58actually see the pieces on the wings
- 32:01that do this which is interesting that
- 32:03will throw that energy out off the wings
- 32:05so it's it's very interesting and that's
- 32:07why I'm going to link these books okay I
- 32:09think even if you don't have a fear
- 32:10flying it just might be very interesting
- 32:12to see how this all works I'm interested
- 32:14but back then no no and not on the spare
- 32:18part plane no yeah that's was not
- 32:20happening so what happened was when the
- 32:22lightning struck the right wing of the
- 32:24plane this lightning hit the plane like
- 32:26it was something that had absolutely
- 32:28zero things in place to divert that
- 32:30energy so that just was like lightning
- 32:32hitting an object so she said quote with
- 32:37a jolt the tip of the airplane falls
- 32:39sleep steeply down forward I can see the
- 32:42whole aisle to the cockpit which is
- 32:44below me people are screaming in panic
- 32:47shrill cries for help the roar this is
- 32:49the part that I was like uh the Roar of
- 32:52the plummeting turbines which I will
- 32:54hear again and and again in my dreams
- 32:56engulfs me this part gets me every time
- 33:01the last thing she heard which she said
- 33:03was clear as glass over everything was
- 33:06her mother saying quietly and calmly now
- 33:09it's all
- 33:10over oh my God how immediately
- 33:13afterwards the plane went into a sharp
- 33:15nose dive right after she said that and
- 33:18she said she said the turbines I
- 33:21couldn't hear them I couldn't hear
- 33:22anyone else screaming I just heard my
- 33:24mother say now it's all over oh my God I
- 33:28am liter my entire body is lit up I am
- 33:30covered in
- 33:32chills oh my God and your oh to hear
- 33:34your mom say that now it's all over and
- 33:37your badass mom who you have seen face
- 33:40everything in this world and do
- 33:41everything she could not even to cry it
- 33:44not even to yell it just quietly and
- 33:46calmly say now it's all over a lot of
- 33:49people say that like the moment before
- 33:51you realize you're about to die it's
- 33:53weirdly calm Cal a lot of people say
- 33:55that it just
- 33:58this is even scarier when Julian opened
- 34:01her eyes again cuz she said she could
- 34:03hear those turbines that Roar cuz we've
- 34:06all heard that in like TV or movies when
- 34:08you hear that like a plane something
- 34:10happen or even when you're starting to
- 34:12land you hear that like like it's that
- 34:15but those are so much louder and she
- 34:18said it kind of like blacked her out
- 34:20yeah in the nose dive obviously so when
- 34:23Julian opened her eyes again she was
- 34:25outside of the plane and no she was not
- 34:28on the ground she was 10,000 ft in the
- 34:32[ __ ] air and still strapped to her
- 34:36seat with the row of seats still
- 34:38attached to her seat just Free Falling
- 34:40Falling outside of the plane her row two
- 34:44miles
- 34:45up what yep her row of seats just freef
- 34:49falling from the sky with her still
- 34:51strapped to her
- 34:53seat what it was wner Herzog who later
- 34:57said about that and we'll talk about
- 34:58Herzog after this too he he said it
- 35:02pretty perfectly he said she did not
- 35:04leave the airplane the airplane left her
- 35:06yeah and as chilling as that statement
- 35:08is it's also very correct the plane had
- 35:11been essentially blown apart by the
- 35:13lightning and her row of seats with her
- 35:15still strapped to it was spiraling to
- 35:18the Earth and julienne was just going in
- 35:21and out of Consciousness so was her
- 35:22mother like thrown from yeah her mother
- 35:24was not in the seat next to her anymore
- 35:27oh my God
- 35:28and if you think about those little um
- 35:31like peep pod things that like are
- 35:32little helicopters you make the little
- 35:34helicopters out of they're like that
- 35:36little Boomerang shape Y how if you do
- 35:38that like you flip it and it kind of
- 35:40spirals down to the ground if you can
- 35:42think of that that's what her seat was
- 35:44doing that's essentially what her seat
- 35:46was doing my God now interesting like a
- 35:49quick little interesting note about uh
- 35:51we her Herzog cuz I just mentioned him
- 35:53he was supposed to be on Lance of Flight
- 35:55508 oh [ __ ] that Day on in 1971 he he
- 36:00and his entire film crew had been
- 36:02scouting locations for his film The
- 36:04Wrath of God and they were intended to
- 36:06be on that flight to head out to a scout
- 36:08a scout location but because of all the
- 36:10chaos at the airport and this being the
- 36:12only flight he was not able to get a
- 36:15seat and he made arrangements for
- 36:16another fight imagine all the people
- 36:17that weren't able to get a seat finding
- 36:19out about this plane crash and later he
- 36:22took this brush with fade and he he went
- 36:26back to this and he did something with
- 36:28Julianne so we'll get to that after but
- 36:31she survived remember she survived
- 36:33falling more than 10,000 ft to the
- 36:36ground outside of the plane tra strapped
- 36:39to a row of seats how now Julianne being
- 36:42brilliant attributes her survival
- 36:45partially to this row of seats she was
- 36:47still trapped to like I said it began
- 36:50spiraling as she fell and this caused
- 36:52wind resistance and it caused it to slow
- 36:56as she was falling right
- 36:58then she also crashed into the canopy of
- 37:00the Jungle below there were trees leaves
- 37:03Vines other vegetation that had she had
- 37:05already slowed thanks to that spiraling
- 37:08which was also bringing her in and out
- 37:09of Consciousness God so she was also not
- 37:13tensed up cuz she was not even there
- 37:16right so it's spiraling creating the
- 37:18wind resistance she's limp and then she
- 37:20hits the canopy which slows her down CAU
- 37:23her she hit the ground below and
- 37:25immediately the world went black after
- 37:28an unknown period of time Julianne began
- 37:30to have strange connected dreams she
- 37:32said she said first she was running
- 37:34through a tight dark space and she was
- 37:36trying not to touch any of the walls and
- 37:39she said it was loud with a roaring
- 37:41humming sound like anine like a turbine
- 37:43surrounding her and before she knew it
- 37:46she was shot into another dream where
- 37:48she was obsessively wanting to wash
- 37:50herself because she was sticky and
- 37:52covered in mud huh she said in the dream
- 37:54she kept thinking one thing all you have
- 37:56to do is get up okay and then she woke
- 38:00up she was no longer attached to the row
- 38:02of seats she had become come unbuckled
- 38:05at some point but she was now huddled
- 38:07beneath them instead and it had rained
- 38:10she was soaking wet and covered in mud
- 38:12dirt and blood oh my God she was hurt
- 38:15but her injuries will shock you when you
- 38:18consider that she fell 10,000 ft from a
- 38:22plane that essentially blew up uh-huh
- 38:25she had a severe concussion that had her
- 38:27and a cut over her left eye and it
- 38:30caused it to swell shut like huge she
- 38:33had a broken clavicle which that's a
- 38:35that hurts I'm not saying any of these
- 38:37injuries are good or easy no but when
- 38:39you like you would expect her to be
- 38:41falling 10,000 feet I thought she'd be
- 38:43in pieces to be quite honest all her
- 38:44bones broken now a very deep lateration
- 38:47on her arm and a pretty big open gash on
- 38:49her leg oh later she found out she had
- 38:52ruptured a ligament in her knee but she
- 38:54didn't even know about it and she said
- 38:56weirdly she didn't didn't feel pain at
- 38:58the time that's wild her body must have
- 39:00just she was in shock coursing with
- 39:02adrenaline Julian said her first
- 39:04thoughts that were clear were ones of
- 39:06helplessness and quote a boundless
- 39:09feeling of Abandonment I mean yeah
- 39:12you're all alone she saw no one around
- 39:14her either she didn't see bodies she saw
- 39:17nothing she was like I'm alone I'm
- 39:19completely alone like like you said
- 39:22including her mother and she also had
- 39:23lost her glasses which she needed to see
- 39:26oh no she managed to crawl from beneath
- 39:28the row of seats and stand up everyone
- 39:31take that in for a minute she fell
- 39:3410,000 ft strapped to a row of seats
- 39:37outside a [ __ ] plane that blew up and
- 39:39then she just stood up like what stood
- 39:42up and she had blown apart a ligament in
- 39:45her knee and stood up now unfortunately
- 39:47she immediately blacked out upon
- 39:48standing but Jesus so Flight 508 was
- 39:52scheduled to land at 4:30 p.m. that day
- 39:55and when it didn't show up with no
- 39:56communic
- 39:58everyone started to panic because this
- 39:59is L Airlines family and loved ones were
- 40:02trying to get information from Lan
- 40:04officials but they were giving out
- 40:06contradictory and half statements they
- 40:08had no idea what had happened they had
- 40:10they were just out like completely in
- 40:12the dark a search operation was started
- 40:15and is still the largest in the history
- 40:16of Peru wow but it was still pretty
- 40:19small because it was the holidays and
- 40:21most of the officials were gone for the
- 40:23holidays also there was no communication
- 40:25from the plane and the thick can copy of
- 40:27the Jungle hid the crash site oh so
- 40:31helicopters were sent over the site
- 40:33several times and Rescue Planes but they
- 40:35couldn't see the crash through the trees
- 40:37right Julianne however could hear and
- 40:40see them but was helpless to tell them
- 40:43she was down there no throughout her
- 40:45entire
- 40:46Journey Rescue Planes flew above her and
- 40:49she would just look up and be like and
- 40:50she'd tried to yell for them tried to
- 40:52show them but they never saw her oh cuz
- 40:54she was not rescued by a rescue plane
- 40:56wow
- 40:57so day two so she was out for the entire
- 41:00day she blacked out gone didn't wake up
- 41:02until the next day which was Christmas
- 41:05morning yeah exactly and she was unable
- 41:07to stand without passing out but she
- 41:09fought and fought tried to do it slowly
- 41:11and slowly but she kep passing out
- 41:13coming back that concussion must have
- 41:15been gnarly and think about how sick and
- 41:17awful you feel when you pass out if
- 41:19you've ever passed out she was just
- 41:21doing it over and over again just trying
- 41:23to stand up that's so much on your body
- 41:25and she finally got herself onto her
- 41:27knees and she stayed conscious and after
- 41:29a lot of time and a lot of struggle she
- 41:31was finally able to stand and when she
- 41:34did this is when she realized that her
- 41:36clavicle was broken o she said
- 41:39horrifyingly quote the two ends had
- 41:42pushed on top of each
- 41:44other oh but they had not broken the
- 41:46skin and she couldn't feel the pain from
- 41:49it what so she could feel the two ends
- 41:52that had broken pushed on top of each
- 41:54other like the middle part like that
- 41:56over could feel it which I'm sure was an
- 42:00outrageous even if it wasn't pain that
- 42:02she could feel it was outrageously
- 42:03uncomfortable she dealt with this for 11
- 42:07days oh my God 11 days and she has like
- 42:10multiple open wounds oh yeah she was
- 42:13shocked that she was not feeling a lot
- 42:15of pain and once she had stood and
- 42:17assessed her surroundings she was again
- 42:19confronted with the reality that her
- 42:21mother who had been sitting in the seat
- 42:22next to her was nowhere to be found
- 42:25right no one was she wasn't seeing any
- 42:27one she was completely alone not even
- 42:29bodies and she said it was the
- 42:30loneliness of this that was the worst
- 42:32part of course she said it made it made
- 42:34it her mission to find her mother she
- 42:37was like even if my mom is dead I need
- 42:38to find my mom now this is when those
- 42:41instincts in those years of her parents
- 42:43teaching her survival and strength
- 42:45kicked right in it's almost like her
- 42:47whole life led up to this led to this
- 42:49yeah she was in the jungle she knew the
- 42:51jungle she knew how to survive this and
- 42:53although she had never done it under
- 42:55these kind of circumstances she was
- 42:57ready to be that bad [ __ ] that she is
- 43:00and in her book Julianne says that she
- 43:02immediately told herself one thing she
- 43:04said quote with calm and methodical
- 43:06thinking you could Master almost any
- 43:08situation in which you end up in in
- 43:10nature I think that's such a good motto
- 43:13to live by calm and methodical thinking
- 43:16is like my lifeline always so true and I
- 43:19think it really is if you can calm
- 43:20yourself which is no easy task and you
- 43:23can get into that methodical thinking
- 43:25space you really can get through most
- 43:28things that's exactly how you get out of
- 43:29an anxiety attack it's true but it's an
- 43:31easier said than done but like you can
- 43:32do it if you really really find the
- 43:35tools to do it m now Julian said first
- 43:37things first of course I want to find my
- 43:39mother but I need to put my oxygen mask
- 43:42on first before anybody else's so she
- 43:44knew the first thing she had to do was
- 43:46find a source of of fresh water a human
- 43:49can only last 3 days without water she
- 43:51started licking the leaves she found
- 43:54because it had rained so she was licking
- 43:56water off of all the leaves and like
- 43:57drinking it off the leaves smart and she
- 44:00hadn't found a bigger source of water so
- 44:02this was just going to have to hold her
- 44:03over now not only could she not see any
- 44:06bodies or people at all around her but
- 44:08she said there was barely any plane
- 44:10wreckage around her either weird but
- 44:12luckily she did find a bag of candy and
- 44:15a Christmas Stalin which is like a fruit
- 44:17cake oh that's that somebody had had in
- 44:19there um unfortunately the the uh
- 44:22Christmas fruit cake had sat in the mud
- 44:24and rain for 2 days and it was soaked in
- 44:26like muddy
- 44:27disgusting Julianne left it she took the
- 44:30bag of candy and left that she says now
- 44:32she definitely should have taken it okay
- 44:34but at the time she was like [ __ ] that
- 44:36that's gross well and she probably also
- 44:38was thinking like maybe
- 44:40like exactly but she says now she's like
- 44:42I probably should have taken that fruit
- 44:43cake but just like cut the top off yeah
- 44:46I mean I think we can all forgive her
- 44:47this little uh Mi mistake I suppose
- 44:49considering she fell out of a [ __ ]
- 44:51the sky yeah I would say she spent hours
- 44:54around the craft site searching for
- 44:56supplies anything that could help her
- 44:58with survival she found no bodies no
- 45:00survivors and no real supplies she could
- 45:02use either wow uh it was these hours
- 45:05that she first heard the rescue plane
- 45:07above her oh she had nothing to signal
- 45:10with and told herself she had to make
- 45:12her way to people because she was like
- 45:14they're not going to find me I have to
- 45:15find them so as she realizes this she
- 45:18hears the sound of Dripping and running
- 45:20water okay we love it and so she follows
- 45:22it she found a river and she followed it
- 45:26Downstream from hours and literally
- 45:28climbed over trees and huge Boulders
- 45:31bushwhacked her way along the river
- 45:33until night came remember what just
- 45:36happened to her she's incredibly
- 45:37concussed she fell 10,000 ft from the
- 45:40sky her clavicles are overlapping she
- 45:42has multiple lacerations and one of her
- 45:45eyes is swollen shut and she also can't
- 45:48see without her glasses yeah that just
- 45:51that yeah like I did a pelaton ride last
- 45:55night and was
- 45:58exhausted I was exhausted I was nauseous
- 46:01cuz I was hot and I was like oh my God
- 46:03me while you're just like in your attic
- 46:05yeah and I'm like what the [ __ ] is wrong
- 46:07with you like this has put so much in
- 46:09perspective for me I'm like [ __ ]
- 46:10literally godamn my ass got a facial
- 46:13last night was like well I can't work
- 46:14out tomorrow can't do that damn yeah
- 46:17like Julianne thank you thank you for
- 46:20being who you are so night came she was
- 46:23clearly exhausted and she found a place
- 46:25next to the stream where she just fell
- 46:26as sleep at this time news of the crash
- 46:29had reached Hans Copa who had convinced
- 46:33who was at this time he thought his wife
- 46:36and his daughter had heeded his warning
- 46:38about flying Lan oh and weren't on the
- 46:41plane oh so his hopes were crushed the
- 46:45following day when he caught a news
- 46:47report that had listed all the
- 46:49passengers and Maria and Julia and Copa
- 46:51were on there I can't imagine and
- 46:54knowing knowing that he didn't even want
- 46:57them on that flight oh and just and to
- 46:59have some sense of calm like no they
- 47:00weren't on that flight they weren't on
- 47:01that flight they weren on that flight I
- 47:03told them not to get on it and then like
- 47:04Julianne knowing that her father didn't
- 47:07want them on that flight not knowing
- 47:09what happened to her mother knowing that
- 47:10her mother just wanted to get home to H
- 47:14like just wanted to get to him quicker
- 47:16him knowing that she just wanted it like
- 47:17it's a whole it's horrible so day3 on
- 47:21the third day December 26th she woke up
- 47:24and continued following the stream it
- 47:26was winding and not straight which made
- 47:29it more difficult and long to follow and
- 47:31the obstacles were still there but she
- 47:32took them all like the badass she is she
- 47:35recalled seeing a Goliath bird eater
- 47:37spider on her way I looked it up so you
- 47:40don't have to it's a giant tarantula
- 47:43that eats
- 47:44birds I don't have words and she said
- 47:47that alone would have killed her like
- 47:50that come close to her like that would
- 47:52have been it for her and honestly me
- 47:53just looking at it would have killed me
- 47:55what did you say it was a giant a
- 47:57Goliath birde eating spider Goliath
- 48:00spider should not be in the scene it
- 48:02would have been cardiac arrest for me
- 48:04it's it's it's giving Sinister babe I
- 48:07don't know if you guys follow B guys you
- 48:09need to follow um oh I don't know the
- 48:12Tik Tok name now [ __ ] oh hang on I'll
- 48:14pause there's a there's a Tik Tok that
- 48:16you guys absolutely need to follow yeah
- 48:18okay you tell them the Tik Tok name and
- 48:20then I've got a hot a hot Goss to throw
- 48:23on you so there's a Tik Tok account
- 48:26that's given
- 48:27it's I don't even know how to describe
- 48:28it but it makes me laugh and gives me
- 48:31joy just go follow every single time
- 48:34that I watch any video and it is @
- 48:37Sinister pom B Pond babe I'm going to
- 48:40link it in the show notes because I hope
- 48:41she gets a billion followers because I
- 48:44think she just reached like 100k
- 48:46followers and I'm like let's get her get
- 48:48her to a million let's bring bring her
- 48:50to the billions because a it's the way
- 48:54she tells stories and she has the best
- 48:56accent and she says BBE after everything
- 48:59and she'll say it's giving Sinister BBE
- 49:02I've been saying it in my real life
- 49:04can't conf all the time it's giving C
- 49:06it's dark sided it's darked she is so
- 49:10[ __ ] funny please follow
- 49:12her I want BB's page to just blow the
- 49:16[ __ ] up to pop off I want to make it pop
- 49:19off because she's so [ __ ] funny and
- 49:22this is truly the Goliath bird eating
- 49:23spider is Sinister Vibe so Sinister babe
- 49:27that it's inch long fangs babe act like
- 49:30hypodermic needles babe yeah inch long
- 49:35things yeah it is giving dark saded and
- 49:39she had to see this Sinister spot oh my
- 49:43God she had to see this thing along the
- 49:45way and just avoid it just hope to avoid
- 49:48it I feel like they are crawling all
- 49:49over
- 49:50Meep but besides that Sinister moment
- 49:54babe she also had to clean climb over
- 49:58Boulders Fallen trees she had to dodge
- 50:01other animals other insects she faced it
- 50:03all with a concussion a swollen eye and
- 50:05a broken clav clavicle throughout the
- 50:08entire Journey she heard the continuous
- 50:11sound of planes above her searching for
- 50:14missing flight 508 to be that close to
- 50:18rescue and to to full well know like I'm
- 50:21so close but it's not going to happen
- 50:23like I have no way to let them know I
- 50:25right there and you just keep heing it
- 50:27and you're like yep and then you're
- 50:28probably like they're going to give up
- 50:29aw when are they going to give up when
- 50:31am I going to stop hearing them how
- 50:33hopeless and when I stop hearing that
- 50:35that's the true like no one's coming yep
- 50:37like now the Amazon had Jaguars cougars
- 50:40and at least 17 different species of
- 50:43supremely venomous
- 50:45snakes yeah finally after hours and
- 50:49hours and hours and hours the stream
- 50:51opened up into a big river and into it
- 50:54Julianne waited because she thought okay
- 50:57I'm going to just float down this River
- 50:59I'm going to let the current take me I'm
- 51:01going to hope to make it somewhere there
- 51:02water snakes aren't there remember the
- 51:04Amazon is a constant barrage of threats
- 51:06to humans in the water there were
- 51:09several different types of Cayman what
- 51:11is that which are like tiny looking uh
- 51:14little alligator things they're very
- 51:15dangerous I say tiny but they get big um
- 51:19they're scary there's anacondas my
- 51:22anaconda don't no and stingrays piranhas
- 51:26bull sharks sometimes yeah but remember
- 51:29sharks are among the most dangerous oh
- 51:31yeah and there's some in this [ __ ]
- 51:32River yeah Piranha's just make me think
- 51:35of Wednesday yeah there you go so but
- 51:38remember Julian is a bad [ __ ] always
- 51:39remember that never forget it and she is
- 51:42also been prepared for this [ __ ] her
- 51:44whole life she would lead yeah right I'm
- 51:47sorry to interrupt but you said Tiny and
- 51:50I know I don't cuz some sometimes I'm
- 51:51thinking of baby ones are tiny and cute
- 51:53but like big ones are scary they are
- 51:55thickums McGee huge and they're they
- 51:58will eat you in one little they're like
- 52:02alligators or crocodiles like you know
- 52:03what I mean like that kind of it's an Al
- 52:06alligatoroid alligatoroid there you go
- 52:09um that's terrifying but what she would
- 52:12do is she would lead with one foot and
- 52:14she said she found her sandal like one
- 52:17sandal oh and so she would lead with the
- 52:20sandal foot okay and feel things out in
- 52:22the water and then she used a large
- 52:24walking stick to touch in front of her
- 52:27before moving forward so she didn't step
- 52:28on anything exactly the entire time she
- 52:30was walking she was just slowly eating
- 52:32the candies out of the bag just to keep
- 52:34her going the just to picture her like
- 52:35I'm just picturing her with like a big
- 52:37old bag of Skittles yeah just sitting
- 52:38there eating them just floating down the
- 52:40Amazon River poking out for Piranha's
- 52:42bull after falling 10,000 ft out of the
- 52:44sky the [ __ ] now hours of walking
- 52:47through the water was when she finally
- 52:48saw a piece of the plane wreckage it was
- 52:51in the middle of the river she saw a
- 52:52large turbine
- 52:55that like it's that fear of big things
- 52:58that are not supposed to be I'm doing
- 52:59I'm doing the naah the na motion right
- 53:02now like mm not for me like cut it
- 53:04out Uncle Joey cut it out no cut it out
- 53:07I don't want seeing a large turbine in
- 53:12the middle of a r that's not it it's
- 53:15that's giving Sinister bab that's giving
- 53:17dark sided that is the most dark sided
- 53:20because I'm telling you go follow that
- 53:21account I'm telling you it'll just give
- 53:23you Joy when you need a little pickme up
- 53:25you need to laugh something silly this
- 53:28is the account for you I don't know why
- 53:30uh but it is you're great things just
- 53:32speak to your soul if you're listening
- 53:34the person who owns that account you're
- 53:35[ __ ] great you you are Sinister Vibe
- 53:38you're giving me a lot of Joy so she
- 53:41said Marie condos what Julianne said was
- 53:44she just stared at this turbine she said
- 53:47she stared at it and she was just amazed
- 53:49at what she was looking at but mostly
- 53:52she said which I'm like this is just
- 53:54this is
- 53:55Julianne she was like like but then I
- 53:56got happy because it meant that I was
- 53:58likely going in the right direction to
- 54:00find more pieces of the plane and
- 54:02possibly more people yeah she said she
- 54:06was convinced that she was not the only
- 54:08Survivor she kept saying to herself
- 54:10she's like there is no way that only I
- 54:12survived this point I could understand
- 54:14that there has to be more survivors yeah
- 54:17and she said years later she would
- 54:19return to this memory of seeing this
- 54:22turbine in the middle of the river yeah
- 54:24and she said she would return to it over
- 54:26and over and over again think about it
- 54:27all the time and she said it would just
- 54:29Amaze her how like she had this weird
- 54:32Detachment from discovering proof that a
- 54:36plane had exploded around her yeah like
- 54:39she was like I was looking at a piece of
- 54:42the plane that I had just been sitting
- 54:45on two days earlier and I'm sitting
- 54:48there going wow that's interesting that
- 54:50means there's people over there I bet
- 54:52and instead of just being like what the
- 54:54[ __ ] like crazy and she's like I just
- 54:56kept returning to it being like I don't
- 54:58know what was going on there I feel I
- 55:00just feel like her mom was with her too
- 55:01you know 100% guiding her like giving
- 55:04her strength I think so too now this was
- 55:07when Ground searches were knocking into
- 55:09high gear back in Lima and they had
- 55:11begun to Journey Through the Jungle
- 55:12looking for the crash site damn now
- 55:14unfortunately this was not organized
- 55:16well and they were sending them in wrong
- 55:19directions because they were getting
- 55:21false leads and like shitty tips because
- 55:24of all the false leads being sent in the
- 55:25government actually had to impose a
- 55:27blackout on news reports because people
- 55:30are [ __ ] corre everywhere always and
- 55:33this was to stop the false [ __ ] from
- 55:35spreading but also it kept the families
- 55:37in the dark they didn't know what was
- 55:39going on how sad is that that like when
- 55:41certain media gets involved even like it
- 55:44reminds me of the Idaho killings yeah
- 55:46the amount of misinformation being
- 55:48spread now that he's been apprehended
- 55:50it's crazy and it's so it's so easy for
- 55:52it to spread too yeah now day four
- 55:55brought a horrific memory and Discovery
- 55:58for Julianne and one that I can't
- 56:00imagine stumbling upon no she said on
- 56:02this day she had walked for a few hours
- 56:04and then remembers distinctly hearing
- 56:06quote the flapping of large Wings
- 56:09unmistakable louder and lasting longer
- 56:11than that of other birds this was very
- 56:14concerning because she knew what this
- 56:15was she said it was the king vulture
- 56:18uhhuh and she remembered a lot about
- 56:20this kind of bird specifically she knew
- 56:22from her mother's lessons that its
- 56:24presence meant there was a large amount
- 56:26of caran very close by is dead meat oh
- 56:31unfortunately she was right now she left
- 56:34the river and walked into the jungle
- 56:37until she came across a row of three
- 56:39seats from Flight 508 oh no they were
- 56:42lodged 3 feet deep into the ground
- 56:46upside down oh my God so on they were
- 56:48upside down so the head portions of them
- 56:51were in the ground this meant that they
- 56:53had hit the ground with un unable Force
- 56:57Inc unbelievable Force what is
- 57:01worse all three passengers was still
- 57:03strapped into the three seats oh God all
- 57:06of them were lodged head first into the
- 57:08ground oh my God only their legs jutted
- 57:11out and as Julian described it quote
- 57:13their legs were just jutting grotesquely
- 57:16upward oh and it was two men and a woman
- 57:19that's awful of course this would
- 57:22destroy anyone but Julianne fought
- 57:25against any instinct to run cuz she said
- 57:28her first instinct in any of ours would
- 57:30be to run the [ __ ] away from this site
- 57:32absolutely this would be the most
- 57:34horrific I would just want to get as far
- 57:35away from this as possible and she knows
- 57:37that the [ __ ] king vulture is on its
- 57:39way yeah so I'm out which might I note
- 57:41has a wingspan of about six feet yeah
- 57:44that's why the sound of it is very
- 57:45distinct cuz it's huge flapping like
- 57:48this thing is massive and I'm sure the
- 57:50sound of it flapping is probably really
- 57:53scary I wonder if we can find a sound of
- 57:55it yeah because just to give you a full
- 57:57picture here like we'll pause and find a
- 58:00uh a little a sound clip I
- 58:03think we will not find you one because I
- 58:06looked and yeah you really can't get a
- 58:09clear one that sounds like anything
- 58:11other than like we're not meant to hear
- 58:13it we're not that's that's what we
- 58:14believe in trying to find that though
- 58:16I'm not going to live in this alone I
- 58:18found a [ __ ] video of an eagle that
- 58:20found a goat and carried that
- 58:23[ __ ] into the air into to the
- 58:26air nature it's giving Sinister it's
- 58:30getting Sinister by it really is but God
- 58:33what is the [ __ ] planet yeah so this
- 58:35is after Julianne discovered this
- 58:38horrific scene she fought every Instinct
- 58:42she had to run the [ __ ] away from this
- 58:45and instead she went closer because even
- 58:48though she knew logically that none of
- 58:50those passengers were her mother because
- 58:53she had to be sure she had to be sure
- 58:55that's love so she used a stick to move
- 58:57the woman's shoe and saw that her
- 58:59toenails had been painted and her mother
- 59:01never painted her toenails oh I that's
- 59:03just like such a I know it's such a like
- 59:05a specific thing yeah meanwhile the king
- 59:09vultures perched above her in the trees
- 59:11and were just waiting for her to leave
- 59:14essentially yeah cuz they're not very
- 59:15confrontational they're not so they were
- 59:17just waiting for her to leave they were
- 59:18like can you please leave they also
- 59:20don't have eyelashes they don't we found
- 59:22that out that's interesting um and she
- 59:24searched for anything else that could
- 59:26help her but nothing really could just
- 59:28pieces of scorched plane were in the
- 59:30area so she went back into the river and
- 59:32it was just those three passengers she
- 59:34found that's all she found now night
- 59:36four the candy was gone no food in the
- 59:40immediate area and that this crash had
- 59:42happened in the rainy season when fruit
- 59:44was not plentiful in the trees like it
- 59:45would have been in dry season right she
- 59:48didn't have tools to open any of the
- 59:49fruit anyways and she didn't have any
- 59:52way of getting up into the high trees to
- 59:54get the fruit so she drinks from the
- 59:56salty River in like dirty river water
- 59:59just to keep herself somewhat hydrated
- 1:00:02and distract herself from the Hunger
- 1:00:03right so as she fell into hunger and
- 1:00:06exhaustion she came across a barrier of
- 1:00:08Driftwood and Tangled reads that would
- 1:00:10be impossible to climb in the river this
- 1:00:13made her have to leave the river again
- 1:00:15which was dangerous yeah and difficult
- 1:00:17and she had to get through the dense
- 1:00:19unbeaten jungle for hours before finally
- 1:00:22being able to get around that and back
- 1:00:24to the river when she does this is the
- 1:00:28first time that she sees that the canopy
- 1:00:30above her head has opened like there's
- 1:00:31an opening of the trees and now she sees
- 1:00:34the plane as it flies over oh she can
- 1:00:38hear it she can and now she's seeing it
- 1:00:41and she's like they might be able to see
- 1:00:43me so she starts waving her arms and
- 1:00:45screaming throwing things like trying to
- 1:00:47get the intention it hovers and then
- 1:00:50just leaves oh yep this would have been
- 1:00:54devastating I can't imagine this was the
- 1:00:56closest thing to being able to be seen
- 1:00:58to her that could have happened and it
- 1:01:00didn't happen and this is night four
- 1:01:02yeah this is night four um I believe it
- 1:01:04is let me no this is um this so this was
- 1:01:07night four we're into days like five and
- 1:01:09six at this point like we're kind of
- 1:01:10like all bleeding into each other but
- 1:01:13this is devastating um and Julian says
- 1:01:17it was it was this when she finally took
- 1:01:20stock of her situation and finally
- 1:01:22started to think about not only what had
- 1:01:24happened but also how that vast and
- 1:01:27massive the jungle around her really was
- 1:01:29and she said this made her start losing
- 1:01:31hope so she didn't let it consume her
- 1:01:34cuz she said if she had really fallen
- 1:01:35into thinking about what was actually
- 1:01:37around her and what wasn't around her
- 1:01:39you'd Lose Yourself she wouldn't be able
- 1:01:41to go forward now to give you context
- 1:01:44for what was around her Jaguars the
- 1:01:46Amazon rainforest covers more than 2.5
- 1:01:49million square miles of land wow 59% or
- 1:01:54a little under 1.5 million square miles
- 1:01:57is per is in Peru and in 1.5 million
- 1:02:01square miles of rainforest land there
- 1:02:03really estimated to live just a little
- 1:02:05over a thousand people wow yeah in 1.5
- 1:02:11million square miles of land that's
- 1:02:14crazy which meant the odds of her
- 1:02:16running into a person for help was
- 1:02:18essentially slim to none like more than
- 1:02:21that or less than that I mean but she
- 1:02:23didn't let this take her down a lot of
- 1:02:25people would give an
- 1:02:26they would have let the insurmountable
- 1:02:28depression of this reality just make
- 1:02:29them lay down hope to be found or Just
- 1:02:33Surrender but it's julienne we're
- 1:02:36talking about so she kept going down the
- 1:02:38river she knew if she let the current
- 1:02:39push her down the river she was
- 1:02:41conserving her strength as well as
- 1:02:44keeping herself safer on land too
- 1:02:46because if she's in the river the things
- 1:02:47on land can't get to her and she felt
- 1:02:49like she could at least contend with the
- 1:02:50river [ __ ] yeah now also days in the
- 1:02:53Amazon were about 85 to 95 deg oh my God
- 1:02:57and humid too and nights could get
- 1:02:59colder and remember she was wearing I
- 1:03:02think the only thing she was wearing at
- 1:03:03this point was like a cotton short dress
- 1:03:06like and she's wet now too and she's wet
- 1:03:08and during the day she was being beaten
- 1:03:10down by the Sun and then soaked and at
- 1:03:13night she was just freezing oh my God
- 1:03:16she was also being assaulted by
- 1:03:17mosquitoes every other insect it was
- 1:03:20hell and at night they would just buzz
- 1:03:22around her in the day they would Buzz
- 1:03:23around her constantly think mosquitoes
- 1:03:26and it's like those kind of bugs buzzing
- 1:03:29all the time would drive you [ __ ]
- 1:03:31insane like I would lose it so Julian's
- 1:03:35concussion by like day seven so we're a
- 1:03:37week into this my God Julian's
- 1:03:39concussion had actually kind of afforded
- 1:03:41her a big um like a bit of reprieve in a
- 1:03:43way in the beginning days of her
- 1:03:45survival she was in kind of a brain fog
- 1:03:47of sorts right so she could really only
- 1:03:50think and focus on survival in those
- 1:03:52days but by the seventh day she was
- 1:03:54really only thinking about her mother
- 1:03:56and the reality of her situation finally
- 1:03:59and sometimes the thoughts were typical
- 1:04:01you know she's a teenager so she would
- 1:04:03sit there and she would think about you
- 1:04:04know what she wish she would be doing
- 1:04:06right now what her friends were doing
- 1:04:09who she missed like you know I wish I
- 1:04:11could eat my favorite junk food kind of
- 1:04:13thing and then she would get like super
- 1:04:15existential as well like thinking about
- 1:04:18like what's the meaning of all this like
- 1:04:20am I supposed to be here why did this
- 1:04:22happen like why me you know like all
- 1:04:25that and although she doesn't really
- 1:04:27understand why or how she knew in that
- 1:04:31moment and she knows now that her
- 1:04:32survival meant something she just didn't
- 1:04:35know what of course it did but she was
- 1:04:37like there's no way this was an accident
- 1:04:38there's no way this is coincidence I
- 1:04:40meant to do this I'm meant to be here
- 1:04:42and I'm not meant to die alone in the
- 1:04:44[ __ ] rainforest with no one knowing
- 1:04:46what I've done clear I just fell 10,000
- 1:04:48ft from the air I've survived 7even days
- 1:04:50I'm not supposed to die right now like
- 1:04:52I'm getting out of this the river is not
- 1:04:54taking me down nothing taken me down so
- 1:04:57she resolves that she's like I'm going
- 1:04:58to get to safety I'm going to lead a
- 1:05:01life of meaning and I'm going to
- 1:05:03contribute to the world when I get out
- 1:05:04of here wow like she sat there at 17
- 1:05:07years old in the [ __ ] rainforest in
- 1:05:10the middle of a river a week after
- 1:05:12falling 10,000 ft from the sky and said
- 1:05:15I'm going to make a difference in the
- 1:05:16world that wherewithal at 1 alone but
- 1:05:20then you had all of those circumstances
- 1:05:22now at this point her resolve had not
- 1:05:24dissipated she was still sure there had
- 1:05:27to be another Survivor of this flight
- 1:05:30there was no conceivable way in her mind
- 1:05:32that she was the sole survivor so she
- 1:05:34was just always looking out for people
- 1:05:36and by this time a week after the crash
- 1:05:38she noted that the cuts on her arms and
- 1:05:40legs were starting to look pretty bad
- 1:05:43and now they were starting to hurt the
- 1:05:45laceration on her calf had become very
- 1:05:47irritated and very swollen oh no she's
- 1:05:50in the dirty river water too it's not
- 1:05:52helping and the laceration on her arm
- 1:05:55was feeling very painful and very hot
- 1:05:57but was in a place that was difficult
- 1:05:59for her to see it was like behind her
- 1:06:01arm so unless she strained her neck to
- 1:06:03look at it she really couldn't see a lot
- 1:06:05of it but when she did finally see it
- 1:06:08she saw that maggots had actually begun
- 1:06:10to burrow into the wound oh my God yep
- 1:06:14flies had laid eggs in the wound
- 1:06:17probably while she was sleeping oh my
- 1:06:20God she knew that this meant she knew
- 1:06:23that it meant that if she allowed them
- 1:06:24to continue buing into the wound her arm
- 1:06:27off really going to get bad and possibly
- 1:06:29need to be amputated so she tried to
- 1:06:31pull them out herself oh my God using a
- 1:06:33piece of bent plain metal that she
- 1:06:35molded into tweezers oh but she couldn't
- 1:06:39get them and just had to give up and
- 1:06:41keep going down the river with maggots
- 1:06:44in her
- 1:06:45arm I don't even yep she just was going
- 1:06:50down the river with live maggots eating
- 1:06:54the wound on her arm that she got when
- 1:06:57she fell 10,000 ft out of the sky I'm
- 1:07:00not well [ __ ] I am not well [ __ ] this
- 1:07:03is coupled with another scary turn of
- 1:07:06events like we've stated many times
- 1:07:08before Julian was very experienced so
- 1:07:11very know knowledgeable about the jungle
- 1:07:13and survival and she knew that most of
- 1:07:15the animals in this jungle would
- 1:07:17probably be terrified of her and pretty
- 1:07:18much keep their distance they would run
- 1:07:21from her normally but she now sees that
- 1:07:23they were making themselves known and
- 1:07:25seemingly watching her following her
- 1:07:28acting curious of her I'm so [ __ ]
- 1:07:30stressed what this told her was that
- 1:07:33they had probably rarely possibly never
- 1:07:36seen a human before Oh my God their lack
- 1:07:39of fear was evidence of that this was a
- 1:07:42crushing blow to her spirit because she
- 1:07:45now knew that she was completely
- 1:07:46isolated from anyone else these animals
- 1:07:49had not seen a human before Oh my God
- 1:07:51she was the first one to roll through
- 1:07:53here oh my God so da eight and n it was
- 1:07:56now that the sun started to unleash the
- 1:07:59Full Assault on her body oh and her like
- 1:08:03infected it was 8 days in and she woke
- 1:08:05up in searing pain on her back and
- 1:08:08shoulders and realized that she had
- 1:08:10about a second degree sunburn on her
- 1:08:11back and shoulders that had actually
- 1:08:13broken open and was now bleeding what
- 1:08:17the [ __ ] yep unfortunately she can't do
- 1:08:20literally anything about this and just
- 1:08:22has to keep going in this Unbelievable
- 1:08:24pain while bleeding from not like she
- 1:08:25has any [ __ ] copper tone on her nope
- 1:08:28this day is when she began to
- 1:08:29hallucinate as well her mind started to
- 1:08:32play a lot of cruel tricks on her she
- 1:08:34keeps being sure that she's seeing
- 1:08:35houses in the distance but it's just a
- 1:08:37sea of trees why does your mind do that
- 1:08:40it's just I don't know if it's I think
- 1:08:41it's partially like a survival thing a
- 1:08:43preservation thing it's trying to get
- 1:08:45you in yeah trying to get you to keep
- 1:08:47going she also has auditory
- 1:08:49hallucinations thinking she hears
- 1:08:51chickens which would mean that humans
- 1:08:53were nearby but it's just jungle Le
- 1:08:55birds that she hears um this may have
- 1:08:58broken someone else's Spirit hearing and
- 1:09:00seeing things only to realize that they
- 1:09:02were not real but julienne said it made
- 1:09:04her strive even harder to survive
- 1:09:07because she was now determined to really
- 1:09:08see and really hear those things okay
- 1:09:11now while she is hearing and seeing
- 1:09:13these false images and sounds she
- 1:09:15accidentally gets her foot stuck in a
- 1:09:17sandbank no and it makes her trip and
- 1:09:19fall oh my God now she's been traveling
- 1:09:21through the jungle for over a week
- 1:09:23straight with no food and little water
- 1:09:24no medicine or aid for her wounds and
- 1:09:26she's likely fighting various infections
- 1:09:29when she hits the ground all she wants
- 1:09:31to do is sleep she was like I hit that
- 1:09:33ground and I was like I can't get up
- 1:09:35like this is it and she can't fight the
- 1:09:37urge anymore her body is telling her
- 1:09:39like you go to sleep go to sleep so she
- 1:09:41closes her eyes and just lets herself
- 1:09:43rest on the jungle floor for a few
- 1:09:45moments but then she said she was woken
- 1:09:47up by a chirping sound and it's not a
- 1:09:50bird chirping she knows that
- 1:09:53sound go away it's a baby
- 1:09:56Cayman when she opens her eyes she sees
- 1:10:00a baby Cayman and then she sees its
- 1:10:02mother no and they are approaching her
- 1:10:05in a very aggressive and very
- 1:10:07threatening way oh my God and she said
- 1:10:09if she jumped up like she wanted to they
- 1:10:12would have attacked her in and got her
- 1:10:13in an instant they would have she would
- 1:10:15had no choice no chance but she said
- 1:10:17what she knew she had to do was just
- 1:10:20slide away from them so she slid on the
- 1:10:24ground away from them slowly when every
- 1:10:28cell in her body was screaming at her to
- 1:10:32jump up and run the [ __ ] out of there
- 1:10:34she was slowly sliding like a worm on
- 1:10:37the ground until she slid back in the
- 1:10:39river and let the current take her away
- 1:10:43and got away Eliza [ __ ] Thornberry
- 1:10:47yep but
- 1:10:49unfortunately this also cemented her the
- 1:10:51knowledge she already knew that there
- 1:10:53were no humans anywhere near here
- 1:10:55because she said there was a large
- 1:10:57amount of Cayman and that made it sure
- 1:10:59that there was no humans around [ __ ]
- 1:11:01alligators y'all yeah
- 1:11:04[ __ ]
- 1:11:06aligators yeah but the ninth day she was
- 1:11:09beyond exhaustion and her hunger was
- 1:11:11something that was no longer something
- 1:11:13she could ignore and it just ate away
- 1:11:16away at her it's all she could think
- 1:11:17about she tried for hours that day she
- 1:11:20said to catch poison dart frogs to try
- 1:11:23to eat something you can eat them even
- 1:11:24though they're them I think there's a
- 1:11:26poison sack that she I'm sure she knew
- 1:11:28where it was and she said she tried for
- 1:11:30hours literally all her energy was spent
- 1:11:33trying to catch these frogs she couldn't
- 1:11:35couldn't catch one and ended up just
- 1:11:36falling asleep in the middle of it so
- 1:11:39the 10th day was the same she just let
- 1:11:42the current take her down the river and
- 1:11:44unfortunately the river is now becoming
- 1:11:45less open and expansive and now there
- 1:11:47are dams of Driftwood and rocks that are
- 1:11:50she's having to climb over and a void
- 1:11:53she has zero energy so you can imagine
- 1:11:55how difficult this was getting she has
- 1:11:57[ __ ] maggots in her arm y'all yep as
- 1:12:00the day went on and eventually the sun
- 1:12:01was beginning to set Julien saw what she
- 1:12:04thought was like a gravel Bank on the
- 1:12:05shore so she was like you know what
- 1:12:07that's a great place to get some sleep
- 1:12:09I'm going to lay on the bank and just
- 1:12:10let my body chill so she laid down she
- 1:12:13just let her body begin to let go but
- 1:12:15right before she was closing her eyes
- 1:12:17God she saw something oh no it was a
- 1:12:21boat she saw a boat and in her head she
- 1:12:24was like this is a Mirage like close
- 1:12:26your eyes look at it again so she
- 1:12:29thought like she blinked and when she
- 1:12:31blinked it was still there and she's
- 1:12:33like and I looked around and it was
- 1:12:35still there still tied to the bank no
- 1:12:38one's in it so she shook her head still
- 1:12:40there she reached out and touched it it
- 1:12:43was a boat and she was touching it and
- 1:12:45she said and it looked new and it looked
- 1:12:47like it was in working order meaning
- 1:12:50someone who ran this boat is nearby yeah
- 1:12:53like at the very least yeah so she
- 1:12:56explores the area around the boat she's
- 1:12:58got like a new found energy she didn't
- 1:13:00even know existed within her at this she
- 1:13:02she finds a foot path that she said was
- 1:13:04not natural it was cleared by hand okay
- 1:13:08she follows it and finds a Tambo then
- 1:13:10you're like who the [ __ ] am I going to
- 1:13:11find exactly so she finds a Tambo which
- 1:13:13is a small like Shack that was made by
- 1:13:16hand where people will store supplies
- 1:13:18like gasoline for boats and such yeah
- 1:13:20yeah now this was crucial because it
- 1:13:24confirmed there had been a human around
- 1:13:26and also there was gasoline in there
- 1:13:29which could be used to help her maggot
- 1:13:30infested wound Debbie bought Gasolina
- 1:13:34there you go I don't even think she
- 1:13:36gritted her teeth and poured the
- 1:13:39gasoline onto her wound which would
- 1:13:41cause unbelievable staring pain but
- 1:13:44because she is brilliant and learned
- 1:13:45from experience and from her parents she
- 1:13:48knew this would be some do something
- 1:13:49internal to heal like to help get those
- 1:13:52maggots out that's so horrific first it
- 1:13:54made the maggots try to dig deeper into
- 1:13:56the wound but eventually it forced them
- 1:13:58out oh my God so she was able to pull
- 1:14:01some of them out she pulled over 30
- 1:14:02magets out of I need you to stop saying
- 1:14:04the word mag and she later found out
- 1:14:06that there was far more that had to be
- 1:14:08removed later oh my God so she's trying
- 1:14:10to sort out her thoughts make a plan so
- 1:14:12far she didn't see a human but just
- 1:14:14evidenced that one was around at one
- 1:14:16point in the recent past so she did
- 1:14:20think really quickly about just using
- 1:14:21the boat to take her down the river
- 1:14:23honestly but then she was she was just
- 1:14:25so tired but literally I mean she just
- 1:14:28performed amateur surgery on her arm
- 1:14:30essentially um but she just laid down
- 1:14:33and she was like I'm going to lay down
- 1:14:34first and think this over and then when
- 1:14:36she started thinking about it she was
- 1:14:37like well taking the boat is a
- 1:14:38non-starter because it would help me but
- 1:14:42I could potentially be abandoning
- 1:14:43someone else in the Amazon rainforest
- 1:14:45and she's like I literally can't do that
- 1:14:46and she wrote later I cannot possibly
- 1:14:49save my own life and jeopardizing others
- 1:14:51that's a human right there so she did
- 1:14:53borrow a tarp from The Shack and laid
- 1:14:55down on the banks to sleep again okay
- 1:14:57now day 11th when she woke up there was
- 1:14:59still no one around her suddenly a
- 1:15:02depressing thought hit her like a ton of
- 1:15:04bricks sometimes hunters or wood cutters
- 1:15:07would use these tambos while they were
- 1:15:09out in the jungle and then they would
- 1:15:11just abandon them for months sometimes
- 1:15:13forever even their boats so when she
- 1:15:16didn't know she was like I don't know oh
- 1:15:18no so she made the impossible decision
- 1:15:20to continue floating down the river now
- 1:15:23just hoping that maybe she would come
- 1:15:25across a village or evidence of more
- 1:15:26people so she's about to go into the
- 1:15:28river and then it begins to rain and
- 1:15:31once again her exhaustion and her lack
- 1:15:34of nutrients and infection were making
- 1:15:36it impossible to move very much and she
- 1:15:38didn't have a lot of strength so she's
- 1:15:39like you know what it's raining I'm
- 1:15:41going to stay in the shack until the
- 1:15:43rain passes okay I think a lot of this
- 1:15:46is her mom I do too that the Universe
- 1:15:48and her mom working together to sure cuz
- 1:15:51in the afternoon the rain finally
- 1:15:53stopped and she was still alone
- 1:15:55so she made the decision to move but
- 1:15:57unfortunately her body still just
- 1:15:59wouldn't even stand like she had no
- 1:16:01strength I mean she just had to pour
- 1:16:02gasoline into her arm exactly it's
- 1:16:05almost like something was working there
- 1:16:07to her to keep her there so she decided
- 1:16:09to rest another full day she was like
- 1:16:11I'm going to give myself another full
- 1:16:13day to regain some of the strength and
- 1:16:15then I will start moving in I might as
- 1:16:16well just stay in the shack while I can
- 1:16:19so she's in a serious state of despair
- 1:16:21at this point she hasn't eaten even a
- 1:16:23little something in over six days and
- 1:16:25has only drank Dirty River water she's
- 1:16:28been bitten on every inch of her body by
- 1:16:30a variety of insects as she tried to
- 1:16:33sleep and they're buzzing in her ears
- 1:16:35she's cold she's soaking wet suddenly
- 1:16:37her brains begins telling her that she
- 1:16:39was correct more people survived the
- 1:16:42crash but they stayed put and they were
- 1:16:45saved that's what her her brain is
- 1:16:47telling her now you were correct yes
- 1:16:50people survived but they were all saved
- 1:16:52and you're left here alone no no this
- 1:16:55she said this was just she was like I I
- 1:16:57was the only one left I was the only one
- 1:17:00that left the crash site and now I'm
- 1:17:02stuck in the jungle forever because of
- 1:17:04my decision no that's what she like her
- 1:17:06brain just started going against her and
- 1:17:08in her book she said she thought to
- 1:17:09herself how strange is it that a person
- 1:17:11can disappear just like that and no one
- 1:17:13knows about it it is crazy so she just
- 1:17:17lays in the shack for most of the 11th
- 1:17:19day just trying to catch something like
- 1:17:20a frog to eat she was seeing them she
- 1:17:22just couldn't catch them she never gets
- 1:17:24one the hunger really starts to shut her
- 1:17:26body down even more and as Twilight
- 1:17:29seeps in and another day passes behind
- 1:17:31her in the jungle she hears it voices in
- 1:17:35the distance immediately she sits up but
- 1:17:38then just as quickly her head tells her
- 1:17:41that's just another auditory
- 1:17:42hallucination don't listen to it she
- 1:17:44doesn't want to get excited but she
- 1:17:45keeps hearing them and then she's
- 1:17:47hearing them getting closer and closer
- 1:17:50and closer and she's still trying to
- 1:17:52convince herself that this is just
- 1:17:53another hallucination when suddenly
- 1:17:56three men just emerged from the jungle
- 1:17:59immediately they all like jumped back
- 1:18:01when they saw her in the shack cuz it
- 1:18:03was their Shack so they was like what
- 1:18:05the [ __ ] but they look at her and they
- 1:18:07knew about the plane crash oh my God and
- 1:18:10they're like holy [ __ ] she was almost
- 1:18:12too stunned to speak but she quickly
- 1:18:14regained her composure and said in
- 1:18:16Spanish I'm a girl who was in the lanac
- 1:18:18crash my name is Julianne oh my God
- 1:18:22these three men were Forest workers and
- 1:18:25they immediately hustled Julianne to
- 1:18:27safety oh my God they brought her back
- 1:18:29to their Camp they fed her they gave her
- 1:18:31clean water dry clothing they helped
- 1:18:34attend to her wounds the to the best
- 1:18:36ability they could God they even took
- 1:18:38out more maggots out of her arm
- 1:18:40themselves stop they then praised her
- 1:18:42for staying at their Shack they were
- 1:18:44like that was a brilliant decision we're
- 1:18:46so glad you did that and they said if
- 1:18:48you had left that area you would have
- 1:18:49never been found because like the uh the
- 1:18:53rainforest as you go further out gets
- 1:18:55more uninhabited you would have been
- 1:18:57going deeper into it and they said her
- 1:19:00body by the way like they the C
- 1:19:03condition they found her in they said
- 1:19:04your body would have given out by
- 1:19:06tomorrow you'd be gone like there's no
- 1:19:09way you were going to be living wow and
- 1:19:11they said that um she if she had even
- 1:19:13tried to float down the river that would
- 1:19:15have been out she was literally on her
- 1:19:17last breaths essentially when they got
- 1:19:19her that was her strength and her mom
- 1:19:22with her no [ __ ] doubt in my mind
- 1:19:24exactly they weren't and what's even
- 1:19:26crazier and this is why I'm like holy
- 1:19:27[ __ ] everything worked they weren't even
- 1:19:30supposed to have returned to the shack
- 1:19:32that day wow they were just but they
- 1:19:34wanted to make sure that the boat was
- 1:19:36still tied up after the rainstorm
- 1:19:38otherwise they weren't coming back to
- 1:19:40the shack Kismet and he said they said
- 1:19:43they never would have found her that all
- 1:19:45of that was meant to be 100,000
- 1:19:47gajillion perc so she immediately asks
- 1:19:50them about other passengers other
- 1:19:51survivors and they tell her the airplane
- 1:19:54has hasn't even been found and you are
- 1:19:56the only Survivor oh my God and she
- 1:19:58asked about her mother even though they
- 1:19:59had just told her no one survived and
- 1:20:01they said no you're are the sole
- 1:20:02survivor can you imagine the weight of
- 1:20:05that falling on you hearing that like
- 1:20:07out loud it's just you she tells them
- 1:20:09the story too like cuz they're like you
- 1:20:12have to tell us like what have you been
- 1:20:13through like it's been almost two weeks
- 1:20:16like what's going on so she tells them
- 1:20:18the story she told they sh and they kind
- 1:20:21of tell her too like about the massive
- 1:20:23search that's been going on and is like
- 1:20:24I heard the planes and they're like holy
- 1:20:26[ __ ] like they were on top of you like
- 1:20:28that's wild and they're telling her like
- 1:20:31you know they like everyone thought
- 1:20:33everybody was gone no one thought that
- 1:20:34somebody survived like no one's going to
- 1:20:36believe this she told them about like
- 1:20:38going down the river about the vulture
- 1:20:40she told them everything the alligators
- 1:20:42yeah and they tell her that the next
- 1:20:44morning after she sleeps a real sleep
- 1:20:46they will take her to turn a Vista where
- 1:20:48they can get her proper help and medical
- 1:20:50care they're angels and Julianne
- 1:20:53couldn't sleep that night even though
- 1:20:54she was safe she was like I just
- 1:20:55couldn't believe I was going to get out
- 1:20:57of here yeah she was probably so excited
- 1:20:59now it is very shortly after Julianne's
- 1:21:01discovery that it's like headline news
- 1:21:03worldwide a lot of lies were told
- 1:21:06because the Press they somehow tried to
- 1:21:08make her story like even more
- 1:21:10Sensational which they did not have to
- 1:21:13like there was they were saying that
- 1:21:15like she had like made a makeshift raft
- 1:21:18that she lived on for 11 days and it's
- 1:21:20like no she didn't yeah I think it's
- 1:21:22even more impressive that she didn't and
- 1:21:23that she woke up under three bodies or
- 1:21:25something like that and she's like no I
- 1:21:27didn't like that none of that was true
- 1:21:28why would you why did your brain even go
- 1:21:30there and the times actually quoted
- 1:21:32Julian as saying and this isn't not a
- 1:21:34real quote they quoted her as saying I
- 1:21:37felt a sensation of emptiness but I
- 1:21:39don't remember anything else until I
- 1:21:40woke up on the ground with three bodies
- 1:21:42on top of me she didn't say that how do
- 1:21:45you what and then they said that she
- 1:21:47told them that she survived by eating
- 1:21:50the Christmas cake which she had been
- 1:21:51taking to her father and she's like nope
- 1:21:53that was mine that wasn't my Christmas
- 1:21:55cake and I didn't need it so what's
- 1:21:59worse is in the days that followed the
- 1:22:01rescue also the Press started to kind of
- 1:22:03turn on her a little bit what and they
- 1:22:05started saying well she ran away from
- 1:22:07injured passengers who could have been
- 1:22:09helped no honey they were them for
- 1:22:12themselves into the ground or just gone
- 1:22:15yep like [ __ ]
- 1:22:17off luckily for the most part the
- 1:22:19overall tone and the most of the tone
- 1:22:22was celebration that she was alive isn't
- 1:22:24is it wild that there were trolls in
- 1:22:26this situation there trolls in every
- 1:22:28situation always they will always find a
- 1:22:30way to be miserable trolls be trolling
- 1:22:32but they spent so these three men and
- 1:22:35julienne spent 11 hours on a boat going
- 1:22:38to turn Vista God once they arrive inav
- 1:22:40Vista she's taken to a hospital where
- 1:22:42she's finally able to get real treatment
- 1:22:45and medicine for the various infections
- 1:22:47she was suffering from unbelievably she
- 1:22:50has to
- 1:22:51fly to Jaren coka I believe it's called
- 1:22:55to get better medical treatment and this
- 1:22:58is where she would actually stay and be
- 1:22:59stabilized but she was actually she was
- 1:23:02absolutely terrified OB this is less
- 1:23:03than two weeks after
- 1:23:05she from the sky but she was also so out
- 1:23:09of it and had no strength so she was
- 1:23:11like I couldn't fight it I just got on
- 1:23:12the flight I just needed to get to the
- 1:23:14hospital holy [ __ ] wow and she wouldn't
- 1:23:17have lived if they tried to take her a
- 1:23:19slower way like she had to get on this
- 1:23:20flight to get there it's almost like a
- 1:23:22flight Julian spent months in that
- 1:23:24medical facility in YN coka but she was
- 1:23:27strong and by March she was back in Lima
- 1:23:29and back in school oh my God yes she
- 1:23:33loved being back in her normal routine
- 1:23:35and around those she loved D but the
- 1:23:37Press were [ __ ] nightmares and they
- 1:23:40hounded her day and night like leave her
- 1:23:42alone day and night so because of all
- 1:23:45the craziness her father Hans actually
- 1:23:47had her sent to Germany to get away from
- 1:23:49it she lived with her grandmother and
- 1:23:51her aunt there MH and Julianne said that
- 1:23:54he had good intentions moving her there
- 1:23:57but she felt very betrayed by it because
- 1:24:00she said she was in such a state she
- 1:24:02just through and she had lost her mother
- 1:24:05in that way that she was like being sent
- 1:24:07away felt like I was abandoned yeah and
- 1:24:10that's not his intention but like he was
- 1:24:12also going through the trauma that he
- 1:24:15had gone through so it's like this was
- 1:24:16just all a lot of confronting a lot of
- 1:24:19different trauma well and I'm sure in
- 1:24:20his mind he probably felt like she
- 1:24:22needed to be with her grandmother as
- 1:24:23like a maternal figure I think he just
- 1:24:26didn't know what to do and with his own
- 1:24:27grief of losing his wife which he and
- 1:24:29his wife were so close like they were it
- 1:24:32was just jungle 247 you know like their
- 1:24:36bond must have been outrageous
- 1:24:38absolutely so it's like this is just
- 1:24:41Unthinkable it's so layered and she said
- 1:24:43panguana and my school were the only
- 1:24:45things left for me and she said that's
- 1:24:46when she felt the sense of Abandonment
- 1:24:49unfortunately Hans was very
- 1:24:51understandably devastated by the loss of
- 1:24:53Maria and Julian said she quote
- 1:24:55suspected that for him it was a problem
- 1:24:57that I survived and not my mother oh and
- 1:25:00what I think she means by that is that
- 1:25:03only one of us came out of that yeah not
- 1:25:06that it was a not that it was bad that
- 1:25:08it was her who came out of that it was
- 1:25:10just like I would rather have both of
- 1:25:12you you know like I really want both of
- 1:25:14you would be a reminder constantly and
- 1:25:16she looks like her mom yeah like you
- 1:25:18know what I mean like she has a lot of
- 1:25:19her mom's features I'm sure that's like
- 1:25:21really tough that's that's on a
- 1:25:23different level of TR it's a different
- 1:25:25grief like I don't know that grief I
- 1:25:27can't imagine that grief I don't know
- 1:25:29the grief that Julianne was going
- 1:25:31through and I don't know the grief that
- 1:25:32Hans was going through so I'm not going
- 1:25:33to judge either or I have no idea what
- 1:25:37that feels and oh that makes me want to
- 1:25:39cry right now and Julian loves her
- 1:25:41parents and respects her parents to this
- 1:25:44day she does not have bad things to say
- 1:25:46about what happened here I don't think
- 1:25:48anybody could have handled that
- 1:25:49situation I don't think there is a
- 1:25:51proper way to situation I don't know
- 1:25:52what this I honestly don't what the way
- 1:25:55to handle it would have been but Hans
- 1:25:57left panguana for per um uh for Peru in
- 1:26:021974 uh he just kind of left and didn't
- 1:26:04say goodbye to anybody and didn't tell
- 1:26:06anyone he just started Living in Germany
- 1:26:08but everyone said he was just never the
- 1:26:10same it just destroyed a huge part of
- 1:26:13him he died in 2000 at 87 years old wow
- 1:26:16Julian said their relationship
- 1:26:18definitely changed when she came home
- 1:26:20that's really sad um it never really
- 1:26:22recovered but she kind of like she could
- 1:26:25understand in some way okay uh later
- 1:26:27Julianne actually learned she wasn't
- 1:26:29initially the sole survivor of that
- 1:26:31crash when the crash site was later
- 1:26:34found they discovered bodies and were
- 1:26:36able to bring them out of the Jungle and
- 1:26:38there was also evidence that at least a
- 1:26:39few of them 17 to be exact had survived
- 1:26:43the fall from the sky wow but their
- 1:26:45injuries were so significant that they
- 1:26:47died very shortly after hitting the
- 1:26:48jungle floor one of those people was
- 1:26:51Maria she survived initially
- 1:26:55but she was nowhere
- 1:26:56near like nowhere near her to find
- 1:26:59nowhere near where she would know where
- 1:27:01she was but they were able to recover
- 1:27:02her body they were able to recover her
- 1:27:04body she said when she Julianne said
- 1:27:06when she found this out it did shatter
- 1:27:08her knowing that her mother had survived
- 1:27:10at some point that she wasn't near her
- 1:27:12yeah now an investigation into the crash
- 1:27:15found that the crew was under a ton of
- 1:27:16pressure to keep the schedule on that
- 1:27:18flight because things had fallen behind
- 1:27:20during the holidays so they pushed
- 1:27:22through the storm instead of diverting
- 1:27:24around it and adding more time to the
- 1:27:26flight dude time is made up lightning is
- 1:27:29notat yeah fatal error that's ridiculous
- 1:27:32also the plane was in terrible shape
- 1:27:34like I said it was put together with
- 1:27:36scraps of other plane to begin with and
- 1:27:38after this Lance shut down good bye
- 1:27:41lansa now Julianne did not return to
- 1:27:44Peru for a decade and honestly I
- 1:27:46probably would never return but she was
- 1:27:48a PhD student oh my god of course she
- 1:27:51was yeah and had an opportunity to St
- 1:27:53study and Amazonian bats in
- 1:27:55panguana again the place where she'
- 1:27:58lived with her parents and formed such a
- 1:28:00strong bond with them and foundations
- 1:28:02for her eventual unbelievable survival
- 1:28:05and she took the opportunity and spent
- 1:28:0718 months living in panguana finishing
- 1:28:09her disertation my God after surviving
- 1:28:12in the jungle she went back to the
- 1:28:14Jungle she's the the most badass woman I
- 1:28:17think I've ever heard of she also became
- 1:28:19the director of panguana after her
- 1:28:21father died wow and in the 19 1990s she
- 1:28:25returned to the crash site with director
- 1:28:27Warner Herzog the actual crash site and
- 1:28:30he was the one who was supposed to go on
- 1:28:31that plane with his crew exactly and she
- 1:28:34said this is when she really realized
- 1:28:36how badly she wanted to return to the
- 1:28:38jungle and she wanted to preserve her
- 1:28:40parents Legacy she said this was when it
- 1:28:42hit her and she said the way she looks
- 1:28:44at it quote the jungle caught me it
- 1:28:47saved me it was not its fault that I
- 1:28:49landed here yeah how do you look at it
- 1:28:52that way I don't know how do you have
- 1:28:54the [ __ ] you're a beast of a human
- 1:28:58now we talked earlier about how
- 1:29:00filmmaker wner Herzog was supposed to be
- 1:29:02on Lance of Flight 508 um but he
- 1:29:05actually made a documentary in 1999
- 1:29:08called Wings of Hope wow and where he
- 1:29:11returned to the jungle and to the crash
- 1:29:12site with Julianne they walked to where
- 1:29:15she crashed and also visited where she
- 1:29:17was rescued and the stops along the way
- 1:29:20of her unbelievable Journey where she
- 1:29:22just tells the story and she talks about
- 1:29:24all the emotions she felt the pain the
- 1:29:27numbness the times when she thought she
- 1:29:29couldn't go on anymore she talked about
- 1:29:31the isolation and feeling of loneliness
- 1:29:34that truly goes unmatched I can't
- 1:29:36imagine no none of us will ever know
- 1:29:38what that's like no as they go through
- 1:29:40this experience she would stop and pick
- 1:29:42up pieces of the scattered rest like
- 1:29:45picking up pieces of the plane that are
- 1:29:47still there today wow it's just
- 1:29:51scattered over a crazy amount of space
- 1:29:55and they actually visited P Pula where
- 1:29:59there's a cemetery that many of the
- 1:30:00passengers from flight 58 are buried and
- 1:30:03there's a big Memorial that the graves
- 1:30:05are all around and there's this map in
- 1:30:07the memorial that traces with dotted
- 1:30:09lines from the crash site to turnov
- 1:30:12Vista where Julianne was eventually
- 1:30:14healed wow under the memorial there are
- 1:30:17the words um a lost day esparanza or
- 1:30:20wings of Hope MH all 71 passengers and
- 1:30:24all six of the crew of the plan's crew
- 1:30:26died in the crash with only Julianne
- 1:30:29surviving that is so remarkable yeah
- 1:30:32today Julian Copa is married and
- 1:30:34actually goes by Julianne Diller her
- 1:30:36married name and she splits her time she
- 1:30:38go she lives in Munich and she also
- 1:30:40works as a librarian at the Bavarian
- 1:30:42State collection of zoology and panguana
- 1:30:46my God she does it all still she has
- 1:30:48spent decades in panguana building it up
- 1:30:52making the facility in The Institute
- 1:30:54larger more like with more
- 1:30:56resources um and it has actually been
- 1:30:59designated as a conservation area now
- 1:31:02she flies all the [ __ ] time my God
- 1:31:05all the time flies all the time is
- 1:31:07making the world a better place is
- 1:31:09treating animals is studying is
- 1:31:11researching is bringing new information
- 1:31:14into the world is a [ __ ] G the GS G
- 1:31:20there was a point earlier where you said
- 1:31:21she was like all right first things
- 1:31:22first and all I could think of is first
- 1:31:24things first I'm the realist drop this
- 1:31:27and let the whole world feel it like
- 1:31:29that's julan she's still in the jungle
- 1:31:31business Julian my God is one of the
- 1:31:36most inspirational people I have ever
- 1:31:39read about I want to play this episode
- 1:31:41for my children someday and be like
- 1:31:44never [ __ ] complain about
- 1:31:46anything like I know we all like
- 1:31:50everyone's allowed to complain about
- 1:31:52[ __ ] like [ __ ] goes down we we're not
- 1:31:54saying like oh now you're never allowed
- 1:31:55to complain no jokes but it's like if
- 1:31:57you feel yourself slipping into a rut of
- 1:32:01like everything sucks and I'm mad and
- 1:32:03this is annoying to me and let julen
- 1:32:05guide your way think about julienne just
- 1:32:07think about Julianne just think about
- 1:32:10that Journey think about maggots in her
- 1:32:12arm I could be stuck in the rainforest
- 1:32:14right now face to face with an alligator
- 1:32:16in it's [ __ ] baby I could be sitting
- 1:32:19next to my mother one second in a plane
- 1:32:21and then I could be crash 10,000 ft out
- 1:32:25of the air in the second and then I
- 1:32:27could spend almost 2 weeks battling the
- 1:32:30Amazon [ __ ] rainforest you know
- 1:32:32what's [ __ ] just to survive we're
- 1:32:34going to be on a plane in two weeks and
- 1:32:35that's [ __ ] yeah but you know what
- 1:32:37it's okay this plane is from 200
- 1:32:41whatever yeah this plane can withstand a
- 1:32:44lightning strike this plane has had
- 1:32:47regular maintenance this plane has a
- 1:32:49very professional pilot yeah and flying
- 1:32:53is different now I flew over tornadoes
- 1:32:55earlier last year so we good we good
- 1:32:58actually I was flying the day that Miley
- 1:33:00Cyrus's uh flight was hit with lightning
- 1:33:03that that day we all know that day I
- 1:33:06know that do you know where you were
- 1:33:08that day how could you forget that day I
- 1:33:10was on a flight and she was too and it
- 1:33:12got hit by lightning but she was fine
- 1:33:15but she was all right exactly because
- 1:33:16the planes come withstand lightning now
- 1:33:18that's my point and also no plane has
- 1:33:20ever crashed due to turbulence there you
- 1:33:23go so you can take that with your hat
- 1:33:25and Jello and Jello oh yes if you I I
- 1:33:28don't know if I've mentioned this before
- 1:33:30I think maybe um maybe I have but if if
- 1:33:32I have hear it again uh if you haven't
- 1:33:35here you go there's a Tik Tok where this
- 1:33:36girl said that she heard from a pilot
- 1:33:38that if you ever get nervous about
- 1:33:40turbulence and you can't understand what
- 1:33:41it is because it is a little very scary
- 1:33:43I was going to say a little it's very
- 1:33:44scary I like [ __ ] my pants every time
- 1:33:46there a little uh she put a little
- 1:33:48rolled up piece of paper in a little cup
- 1:33:50of Jello-O and she put it in the middle
- 1:33:52and she said here's the plane and the
- 1:33:53Jello around it is the air that you're
- 1:33:55flying through and then she Taps the
- 1:33:57Jello-O and you see the Jello-O just
- 1:33:58kind of wiggle and she said is that
- 1:34:00piece of paper going to drop and you say
- 1:34:02no Tik Tok it's not she says that's
- 1:34:05because there's all this air pressure
- 1:34:07underneath and all this air pressure on
- 1:34:09top and on either side and that little
- 1:34:11piece of paper isn't going anywhere it's
- 1:34:13just jostling around because the air is
- 1:34:15jostling around boom and then she said
- 1:34:17anytime you get in turbulence just think
- 1:34:19of that think about Jello yeah and I'm
- 1:34:20telling you it helps the last time I was
- 1:34:22on the plane I thought about jell that's
- 1:34:24what I thought about too and it helped
- 1:34:25me but again I will link some of those
- 1:34:28books in the show notes in case you are
- 1:34:29a fearful flyer or if you're not and
- 1:34:31you're just interested in it yeah
- 1:34:32totally but I'm telling you Julianne did
- 1:34:34it jul jul still does it she gets on a
- 1:34:37plane so I can get on a plane Julianne
- 1:34:41forever yeah Julianne for life she's a
- 1:34:46inspirational inspirational Bish to say
- 1:34:49the least yeah I love her wow well with
- 1:34:52all of that
- 1:34:54being said I thought this was going to
- 1:34:55be a short Episode by way you're insane
- 1:34:58you always think it's going to be a
- 1:34:58short episode and then we have like four
- 1:35:00parts yeah but we love you for it I try
- 1:35:03and we love you guys we love you and we
