- 0:07now our core values were respect
- 0:10integrity communication and excellence
- 0:12and we had banners hanging from you know
- 0:16the the lobbies you had magnets desk
- 0:19toys you know little things in every
- 0:20conference room to talk about our core
- 0:23values and the what the quote the Martin
- 0:26Luther King jr. quote was underneath
- 0:29every communication coming our lives
- 0:32begin to end the day but remain silent
- 0:34about things that really matter
- 0:37how many people stayed silent at Enron
- 0:39but this quote is actually really really
- 0:42tragic and it's tragic because what does
- 0:45it really mean something's very
- 0:47important and you've rationalized
- 0:49staying quiet
- 0:50you've rationalized that you're safer or
- 0:52better off being quiet well a piece of
- 0:56your soul starts to erode and when
- 0:58you're at the end of your life and it
- 0:59feels like your life's been somewhat
- 1:00purposeless and meaningless you realize
- 1:03it goes back to that decision where you
- 1:05decided to stay silent and I don't know
- 1:08too many people that kind of rationalize
- 1:10that the Department of Justice just got
- 1:12aggressive or started looking you know
- 1:14it's popular to prosecute white-collar
- 1:17crime but it's very important to say
- 1:20something we had a lunch conversation
- 1:21about you know what I do something
- 1:23differently
- 1:24one of the faculty said that he's talked
- 1:26to whistleblowers and they almost all
- 1:28say they paid too high of a price and
- 1:30they don't know if they would do it
- 1:32again but I think the problem is they're
- 1:36comparing their post whistleblowing life
- 1:39with their pre ethical dilemma life so
- 1:44they're thinking about how things were
- 1:46before the ethical dilemma landed on
- 1:49their desk
- 1:50but once the ethical dilemma lands on
- 1:52your desk you have to make a choice and
- 1:56they chose to say something and life has
- 1:59been rough and they're comparing it to
- 2:02how life was before the ethical dilemma
- 2:05but really they need to compare it to
- 2:07what would your life be like if you
- 2:09would rationalize staying silent and how
- 2:12would you really feel about yourself
- 2:15living with that rationalization and
- 2:17really deep down at your core you
- 2:19wouldn't be
- 2:20happy with yourself you know you spoke
- 2:22up you you were courageous you know deep
- 2:26down you might have paid a big price but
- 2:28you're proud of yourself for doing that
- 2:30you know you you it's not fair it's not
- 2:34just that you have the ethical dilemma
- 2:36across across your play but it did
