  1. 0:00Hey yo guys, today we’re going to take a  look at some must-know extra F2L solutions.
  2. 0:04We’re either going to solve  bad edges without rotating,
  3. 0:07or — for example — take advantage of empty slots.
  4. 0:09This case right here should  always be solved like this.
  5. 0:13Yeah boi.
  6. 0:14Before we start though, quick shoutout to  our mini Pablo right here in the corner,
  7. 0:18who’s going to watch us solve F2L like real G's.
  8. 0:21Now for the first case: I told you  guys to put the corner in the back
  9. 0:25and push the edge into this easy insert position.
  10. 0:28But alternatively, what you can also do  — and this is just something you should
  11. 0:31also be aware of — is when you align the  edge, you can also hide that one and put
  12. 0:35the corner in the correct position,  which you can then solve like that.
  13. 0:38However, if the back slot is open, the best  solution is always to just hide the corner,
  14. 0:43push the edge into position, and you can  straight up cancel into solving it in the front.
  15. 0:48So whenever the back slot is open,  this is the fastest solution.
  16. 0:51Now keep in mind guys — all of the solutions  that I’m going to show you in this video,
  17. 0:54you can mirror to the left  side, or even to back inserts.
  18. 0:58But to see all of those solutions, you  know the drill — there’s a free PDF in
  19. 1:01the pinned comment, and everything is in there.
  20. 1:03So it’s ideal to practice your F2L.
  21. 1:06Next up we have this case right  here with white facing up.
  22. 1:08Now normally whenever white is facing  up, you would align the edge, hide it,
  23. 1:13and push the corner above  it, which creates a pair.
  24. 1:16But for this case right here, notice  that if I do an R move right here,
  25. 1:19we actually have a three-move insert.
  26. 1:22So we can just take it out and  then insert it in the front right.
  27. 1:25And this is just, once again, an extra solution  you should know and use in your solves.
  28. 1:30Then the case with a solved corner and  a good edge right here — first of all,
  29. 1:33an extra option I want to give you guys.
  30. 1:34Normally, we would do a sledgehammer  right here into this easy insert.
  31. 1:37However, remember that in the  back I told you to set up into
  32. 1:40this case right here, which is a 2-gen solution.
  33. 1:43We can do the same in the front  actually — just setting up into
  34. 1:46this case and then solving it in the front right.
  35. 1:48So even though this is way longer, you  should be able to do it pretty fast.
  36. 1:52And also, a perk for the more advanced  cubers out there: it preserves EO.
  37. 1:57But a more important thing about this case is when
  38. 1:59you’re facing a bad edge and  you’re solving in the front.
  39. 2:02If you put the edge right here and take  out the corner this way, this forms a pair.
  40. 2:06And you can actually easily insert this  with a hedge insert to the left, like so.
  41. 2:10And this is a must-know solution.
  42. 2:12Even when we’re solving in the back and we  have a bad edge, we can also do the same thing.
  43. 2:16So just taking out the pair like this  — and depending on your solution,
  44. 2:20you might rotate, or just  insert it without a rotation.
  45. 2:23And we can take this even one step further.
  46. 2:24When we have a good edge and  we’re solving in the back,
  47. 2:27instead of doing the long 2-gen solution, what  you can also do is put the edge right here.
  48. 2:31Doing a wide insert forms a pair right here,
  49. 2:34and you can just insert that  in the back straight away.
  50. 2:36So these are fewer moves, but some people  might struggle with the wide insert.
  51. 2:40Just have a play with it and  see what works best for you.
  52. 2:43Then we have this case right here  — so that’s just sexy, insert.
  53. 2:46But from this angle right  here, instead of rotating,
  54. 2:48what you can also do is simply do  a sledgehammer, which forms a pair.
  55. 2:52And you can just insert that straight away,  which is a useful solution to solve a bad edge.
  56. 2:56For this case right here, I  showed you that if we put the
  57. 2:59corner right here and do an R move,  we have an easy insert right here.
  58. 3:03However, with the corner in the back — so  really useful to learn in combination with
  59. 3:06the other solution — if we hide the  corner, the edge is in the top layer.
  60. 3:10And we can actually do a U2 and bring the corner  back, which also sets up a three-move insert.
  61. 3:15Now for this annoying case with a  flipped edge and white facing to
  62. 3:18the right — I told you to build a pair  like this, and that is a good solution.
  63. 3:22But alternatively, and some people might even  find this easier: with the corner in the left
  64. 3:27front like this, we can hide it, which puts  blue on top and red on the top right here.
  65. 3:31So we can just flick it into its correct position  and then solve the three-move insert in the front.
  66. 3:37So because both solutions have a different  starting point, it might be useful to just
  67. 3:41learn both and use them whenever the  corner is in the correct position.
  68. 3:44Then we have another cool solution where we  can take advantage of an open slot right here.
  69. 3:48So normally, for this case right  here, I told you to insert the edge
  70. 3:51which sets up this case right here  — and it is a really fast solution.
  71. 3:55However, when we have an open slot,  we can actually just hide the corner,
  72. 3:59put the edge across from the corner, and then  cancel into solving that one in the front.
  73. 4:05Now notice that I showed you this solution in  the back, where we would do the same thing.
  74. 4:09And if you actually have a pair, you just  cancel into solving that in the front as well.
  75. 4:13But the reason this doesn’t work in the front when  you have a pair in the back is that when you try
  76. 4:17to do this, you actually can do the solution, but you have to drag the pair in or push
  77. 4:21it in like that — which makes it  slower than the standard solution.
  78. 4:25Now we have one of the coolest cases where  you can take advantage of open slots.
  79. 4:30Normally right here, we would do a pretty long
  80. 4:32solution where we would insert the  corner into another case like that.
  81. 4:36However, when we can take  advantage of an open slot,
  82. 4:38we can simply align the edge right here, hide  the edge, and drag the corner to this position.
  83. 4:44When we bring the edge back,  we have an easy insert.
  84. 4:47So this solution just flows way, way, way better.
  85. 4:50So whenever you can take advantage  of an open slot, you should do it.
  86. 4:53And we can even apply the same principle  for when we have a bad edge right here.
  87. 4:56Because if I just hide the edge and put  the corner into this position right here,
  88. 5:01if I bring back the edge, we have  a three-move insert right here.
  89. 5:04So depending on your solve, once again, you can  either use F moves or rotate for the insert.
  90. 5:08I also want to show you how we can take advantage  of this technique when we’re solving in the back.
  91. 5:12So even though we have a good edge right here,
  92. 5:14we do not want to mirror the front slot  solution, because this is just an awful pair.
  93. 5:20What we can do instead is,  from this angle right here,
  94. 5:22inserting the edge, which  sets up this case right here.
  95. 5:26And this is still not ideal,  because it’s a pretty long solution.
  96. 5:29From this angle, we can do a similar thing by  doing a f' L f, which also sets up an easy insert.
  97. 5:37And we can just insert that  one straight in the back.
  98. 5:40But even when we’re solving this in  the back, if there’s an open slot,
  99. 5:42it’s always better to just set  up a three-move insert like that.
  100. 5:46Because even when the front slot  is solved right here, we can,
  101. 5:48for example, use the back right  slot to still do the same moves.
  102. 5:51And this also sets up into a three-move insert.
  103. 5:54So this is basically just a bad case when  we cannot take advantage of open slots,
  104. 5:58but a pretty good case when we  can take advantage of open slots.
  105. 6:01Then for this case in the front right,  when we have a bad edge — instead of
  106. 6:05rotating and doing this pretty long  solution, what we can do instead,
  107. 6:10without rotating, is putting the pair in the back  and inserting the edge into its slot like that.
  108. 6:14Now even though it is flipped,  white is facing up right now,
  109. 6:17and we know how to solve this by doing a  sledgehammer and then inserting the pair.
  110. 6:22The reason this works so well is  that after inserting the edge,
  111. 6:24we can just cancel into the sledge,  which makes it a really fast execution.
  112. 6:28And I think it is better than  doing something like F inverse F’,
  113. 6:33because this messes with EO  and it is also less intuitive.
  114. 6:36And then for this terrible case right  here — we have a really long solution.
  115. 6:40So splitting apart the pieces, setting up  a three-mover, and inserting it like that.
  116. 6:44However, when the back right slot is open,  notice that when we’re taking out the pieces,
  117. 6:49we can actually cancel into setting  up into this three-move insert.
  118. 6:52And because we’re using an empty back right  slot, instead of rotating to this side,
  119. 6:56it might be better to rotate to  the other side and just insert it
  120. 6:59into the front — which makes it  easier to work on our next pair.
  121. 7:04And then finally, when we have a  solved corner and a flipped edge,
  122. 7:06and the back right slot is open —  what we can do instead of, you know,
  123. 7:10solving this in the back like that — is  just doing a sledgehammer right here.
  124. 7:14This takes out the pair and also orients the edge.
  125. 7:16Because the back right slot is open,
  126. 7:18we can do this easy solution that  I showed before in the video.
  127. 7:21Some people even like this solution when we cannot
  128. 7:24take advantage of an open slot — just doing  a sledge which sets up this case right here.
  129. 7:28I don’t think it is faster, but just  be aware that the solution exists.
  130. 7:32Right now you’re so close to  mastering the standard F2L cases.
  131. 7:35There’s basically one more fundamental technique  that I want to teach you called keyhole,
  132. 7:40where you basically work with pairs  where one of the two pieces is solved,
  133. 7:44and this can save you a ton of moves.
  134. 7:46You can find that video on screen right now.
  135. 7:48And once again guys, I used the Moyu Weilong  Ferrocore, and you can get it at thecubicle.com.
