5. 0:18god while i described myself as an
6. 0:20experiential atheist men and women who
7. 0:23left their comfort zones and successful
8. 0:25careers entrusting their lives
9. 0:28ministries and movements to god i've
10. 0:31been inspired i just believed what jesus
11. 0:35says that's all and if we could all just
12. 0:37believe it our lives would burst into
13. 0:40flames in jesus name run run
14. 0:43this is foolishness you can't do this
15. 0:45nothing will separate me from the love
16. 0:47of christ get to know the inspiring
17. 0:50testimonies of founders and leaders who
18. 0:53gave their all overcame setbacks towards
19. 0:57a hundredfold harvest

26. 1:22community that's the heart and light of
27. 1:25christ it was founded in 1990 as a
28. 1:27prayer group which became a community
29. 1:30with strong eucharistic heart
30. 1:33let's welcome damien stein about a year
31. 1:36after receiving the baptism of the holy
32. 1:38spirit damien stain felt a call from god
33. 1:42he followed seven and a half years of
34. 1:44prayer
35. 1:45fasting and searching this finally bore
36. 1:48fruit and he founded a catholic
37. 1:50community called core elumen christi the
38. 1:53heart and light of christ in october
39. 1:551990
40. 1:57it's a community that offers the depths
41. 1:59of prayer and worship
42. 2:01found in the monastic and contemplative
43. 2:03vocation and yet engaged in mission and
44. 2:07embraces the charismatic gifts
45. 2:09the catholic community core elumen
46. 2:12christi
47. 2:13seeks to combine a life of prayer and
48. 2:15worship with a ministry of healing and
49. 2:18prophecy
50. 2:19damien stein drives this ministry of
51. 2:22preaching
52. 2:23miracles and calling god's people into
53. 2:26the promises of christ
54. 2:28he has ministered in 25 countries
55. 2:30equipping believers of every background
56. 2:33to exercise spiritual gifts
57. 2:35thousands are healed at his services and
58. 2:38god has graciously used him to help many
59. 2:40people experience the outpouring of the
60. 2:42holy spirit
61. 2:44damian and his late wife kathy have two
62. 2:47children
63. 2:48the family lives near london
64. 2:50core elumen christie community
65. 2:53consists of married people
66. 2:55priests and single people from various
67. 2:57nations
68. 2:58they host about 20 conferences events
69. 3:02and programs each year in different
70. 3:04countries
71. 3:05they lead miracle healing services all
72. 3:07over the world at which people are
73. 3:09privileged to witness extraordinary
74. 3:11healings
75. 3:12they have developed a street ministry
76. 3:15prophetic ministry and an online
77. 3:17teaching and prophetic appointment

79. 3:20they also have online miracle healing
80. 3:23services each month watched by people in
81. 3:26over 40 countries
82. 3:27this community has canonical recognition
83. 3:30and is deeply catholic while being
84. 3:33enriched by the work of the holy spirit
85. 3:35in the other churches
86. 3:37damian welcome to the program
87. 3:40well it's good to be with you and you
88. 3:43and i have difficult names in different
89. 3:45respects mine is hard to pronounce yours
90. 3:48is a stain well let's get right into it
91. 3:51who is damien stain
92. 3:53you are a very popular name in the
93. 3:55charismatic community we we know you're
94. 3:58a well-known speaker an evangelist
95. 4:00but we're really interested in knowing
96. 4:03damien stain and the person you are
97. 4:06today okay well i'm a catholic i was
98. 4:08brought up in a catholic family
99. 4:11my dad worked time for the church in the
100. 4:141960s as a layman which was very unusual
101. 4:17at work for the bishop and for a new
102. 4:19movement
103. 4:20in the 60s so we grew up in a context of
104. 4:23radical catholic faith a lot of people
105. 4:26young people coming to our house who've
106. 4:28been brought back to the church by my
107. 4:29dad so faith was a radical dynamic and
108. 4:33primary thing in my upbringing
109. 4:36in my teenage i went right off the rails
110. 4:39uh ended up having
111. 4:41the experience of being well i described
112. 4:43myself as an experiential atheist i it
113. 4:46wasn't like today atheism is like trendy
114. 4:48i thought atheism was really boring and
115. 4:50uninteresting but i i had an experience
116. 4:53of the absence of god the emptiness of
117. 4:56the universe it was experiential thing
118. 4:59people talk about having a personal
119. 5:01experience of jesus i had a personal
120. 5:03experience of void in the universe and
121. 5:06that led me that was because of the sins
122. 5:08i was embracing the way of life i was
123. 5:10involved in
124. 5:12kind of had you know closed me down
125. 5:14spiritually shut me down and then
126. 5:16through the charismatic renewal i had a
127. 5:18radical conversion
128. 5:19i went through a
129. 5:21deep healing and liberation and you know
130. 5:24god really purified my life and then i
131. 5:26became kind of radical christian
132. 5:28i sold all my possessions gave them to
133. 5:30the poor you know slept on the floor you
134. 5:32know worked with people who were sick
135. 5:34you know i i decided i was going to be
136. 5:36the second saint francis as you can tell
137. 5:38i was full of humility
138. 5:40but a lot of zeal even if i was you know
139. 5:43youthful arrogance
140. 5:45and god was just very very merciful to
141. 5:47me very kind to me
142. 5:50but one thing he did give me he gave me
143. 5:52a conviction
144. 5:55that
145. 5:56he has
146. 5:57something exceptional for me in my life
147. 6:02uh and so
148. 6:03that helped me
149. 6:05to keep setting the bar high you know
150. 6:08not compromising on things i remember
151. 6:10when i was at university i had all kinds
152. 6:13of absolutely appalling temptations
153. 6:16girls coming riding on my door you know
154. 6:19come and have sex with me room number so
155. 6:21and so or turning up at my door in their
156. 6:24underwear
157. 6:25you know these kinds of experiences and
158. 6:26i was able to resist all of that by
159. 6:28god's grace
160. 6:30because i was able to hold on to this
161. 6:33interior conviction that god had some
162. 6:35destiny for me that was worth much more
163. 6:38than all this rubbish that was being put
164. 6:40in front of me well it sounds like
165. 6:41you're in a beautiful place right now
166. 6:43but one of the things you said really
167. 6:45resonated with me you know you said you
168. 6:47had a nothingness you had a void right i
169. 6:50think the old saying is the universe
170. 6:52abhors a void so the void is going to be
171. 6:55filled up with something you
172. 6:58would have failed miserably at the
173. 7:01knocks and the door and the messages and
174. 7:03and the invitations if you hadn't filled
175. 7:06that void with something something very
176. 7:09good and holy that's right i went along
177. 7:11to a prayer group not because i believed
178. 7:13in god my parents were going i didn't
179. 7:15even know what it was
180. 7:16uh and uh but i i was so desperate i
181. 7:19went along i had long hair you know my
182. 7:22clothes were a terrible mess i was into
183. 7:24this whole rock scene you know all that
184. 7:26and um
185. 7:28i went and it's just mostly old ladies
186. 7:30sitting around the candle you know and
187. 7:31singing and the music let me tell you if
188. 7:34you think black sabbath and ac dc is
189. 7:37demonic music you should have heard the
190. 7:39quality of this music it was so bad i
191. 7:42mean they loved jesus but i couldn't
192. 7:44wasn't jimi hendrix you know i mean it
193. 7:46was just appalling but somehow the
194. 7:49presence of god was there they loved
195. 7:50jesus they loved me and i just couldn't
196. 7:54not come back they i just
197. 7:56i thought it was like going to the gym i
198. 7:58thought these guys have stumbled on
199. 8:00something they've got this peace i've
200. 8:03got to have some peace
201. 8:05but it's false i mean their premise is
202. 8:07false
203. 8:08you know but it's like maybe it's like
204. 8:10kind of like yoga you know you do
205. 8:11exercises and it makes you feel yeah man
206. 8:14you know or you go to the gym you know
207. 8:16i'm not promoting yoga by the way you
208. 8:17you know you um go to the gym you know
209. 8:20you lift weights and then you get
210. 8:22muscles so i went to the prayer group
211. 8:24and it was like well what do you do to
212. 8:25get this piece and this little old lady
213. 8:28said to me you know when you pray to
214. 8:30receive the holy spirit dear you know so
215. 8:32i started praying to this god i didn't
216. 8:35believe in uh for something that i
217. 8:37didn't have
218. 8:38and god turned my life around and within
219. 8:40a few months
220. 8:42i believed that i had an experience of
221. 8:44god existing i remember where i was
222. 8:46standing i was standing talking to
223. 8:48somebody after the prayer meeting which
224. 8:50i found immensely boring and irrelevant
225. 8:52i was just completely
226. 8:54desperate
227. 8:55for god but not god for peace
228. 8:58and
229. 8:59i was talking to a guy after
230. 9:02the meeting and i was holding a cup of
231. 9:04tea and i was still living a bad life
232. 9:06you know one week i would be
233. 9:08fooling around my girlfriend the next
234. 9:10week you know i'd be at the prayer
235. 9:11meeting next week you know it wasn't it
236. 9:13was not an ideal situation but god's
237. 9:15grace
238. 9:16and uh and i was talking to him holding
239. 9:18a cup of tea
240. 9:19and uh suddenly as though something
241. 9:24filled it's like in an instant i wasn't
242. 9:27being spiritual
243. 9:29suddenly
244. 9:30everything behind me which was void
245. 9:34suddenly filled with a person and it
246. 9:36reached as far as my imagination could
247. 9:39go and the universe had a person in it
248. 9:43and that was my beginning and then i i
249. 9:45knew that god was real and a few months
250. 9:46later i i came to faith that jesus
251. 9:50is lord
252. 9:51and that that's what changed everything
253. 9:52i experienced the outpouring of the holy
254. 9:54spirit and then then my life took this
255. 9:57radical turn and i got rid of everything
256. 9:59i cut off all my friendships you know
257. 10:01and i just went for jesus
258. 10:03i don't know if everyone appreciates
259. 10:04this but this radical turn convicted by
260. 10:07the spirit is is real and it happens to
261. 10:09people who are young like you or old
262. 10:12but when did you experience god's
263. 10:14calling to a full-time ministry so it's
264. 10:17one thing to be changed and and
265. 10:20fulfilled if you will and giving good
266. 10:21direction it's another thing to give
267. 10:22everything up and
268. 10:24start
269. 10:25a ministry tell me
270. 10:27when did that first uh hit you so about
271. 10:3018 months after
272. 10:32i got converted i'd heard of a community
273. 10:35in france the emmanuel community that's
274. 10:37a big catholic charismatic community so
275. 10:39i went to paris no money just trusting
276. 10:42in the lord when and two friends wanted
277. 10:44to come with me my brother and a friend
278. 10:46and we went and we went to stay with
279. 10:48them and while we were staying with them
280. 10:50we had a few days with them and then
281. 10:53uh and i'd left my job to do this
282. 10:55because i didn't know when i was if i
283. 10:56would come back or how long i'd be there
284. 11:00and then they went on retreat and it was
285. 11:02the private community retreat when i
286. 11:03came back from that trip having been
287. 11:05with a charismatic community and a
288. 11:08contemplative monastic community i just
289. 11:11couldn't
290. 11:12decide i thought i have to have these
291. 11:14two realities this experience of the
292. 11:17glory of the holy spirit in the
293. 11:19contemplative life in a life and the
294. 11:21glory of the holy spirit in the
295. 11:23missionary life
296. 11:24so i just couldn't decide so then i i
297. 11:27did sort of part-time jobs and filled in
298. 11:29here and there and i did some worked in
299. 11:31a christian bookshop you know and that
300. 11:32kind of thing but my heart was already
301. 11:34set i had to be in full-time ministry
302. 11:37then i worked as a chaplain in
303. 11:39university and then i felt i really
304. 11:41needed to
305. 11:42to get a degree people started saying to
306. 11:44me well you need to at least be sensible
307. 11:47so i thought well okay you know these
308. 11:48wise people so i i went off and got a
309. 11:50degree i qualified as a teacher i always
310. 11:53knew i was called to teach i did a
311. 11:54degree in theology and art
312. 11:57and then as soon as i've done that
313. 11:58degree i did a job for a short time and
314. 12:00worked in a christian center kind of
315. 12:02part time in each of those
316. 12:04and the community was and we started the
317. 12:06community but for me i'd known that you
318. 12:08know from 1982
319. 12:1083 just a year and a half after my
320. 12:13conversion i had to be full time
321. 12:15once the community started i could lift
322. 12:17that that fully and then things began to
323. 12:19escalate so damian that's been a long
324. 12:22time early 80s you were
325. 12:24did i say it right baptized in the holy
326. 12:26spirit
327. 12:28you left your job you went into
328. 12:30full-time ministry when you look back on
329. 12:32it it's a long time ago
330. 12:34how do you feel about it share a little
331. 12:36bit about that ministry and when you
332. 12:37really when you founded it when you just
333. 12:39got it started so so what happened we
334. 12:42were a prayer group at university and we
335. 12:44had an outpouring of power on the group
336. 12:46tiny little group just six or seven of
337. 12:49us eight of us maybe we had an
338. 12:50outpouring of the power of god upon the
339. 12:52group people were speaking in known
340. 12:55languages they hadn't learned that
341. 12:56happened to us
342. 12:58several times german italian uh spanish
343. 13:02gaelic you know this gift of tongues
344. 13:04this was happening to us in the group
345. 13:06and because we had students who were
346. 13:08linguists they were saying did you know
347. 13:10you're speaking in spanish did you know
348. 13:12you're speaking in german did you know
349. 13:14you were speaking in gaelic you know so
350. 13:16it was very interesting experience and
351. 13:18then we started um uh running healing
352. 13:20things and lots of people were getting
353. 13:22healed and so we were we realized that
354. 13:25we had a call not just to preach but to
355. 13:28preach with supernatural signs
356. 13:30and then the year after that those
357. 13:31things year or two after that the
358. 13:33community was founded
359. 13:34and it was founded with this mission to
360. 13:36to live a light deep life of prayer
361. 13:39in the eucharist
362. 13:41with proclamation with signs
363. 13:43and then we started getting known
364. 13:45for these things and getting invitations
365. 13:47and then the invitation started going
366. 13:48internationally
367. 13:50and then it all just snowballed well
368. 13:52damian it sounds like it's a great
369. 13:53success now and you're being very
370. 13:55positive which is good
371. 13:57allow me to be a little bit negative
372. 14:00you know you hear us speaking in tongues
373. 14:01and healings and there can be a lot of
374. 14:03disbelief
375. 14:05uh tell me about some of the challenges
376. 14:07that you
377. 14:08endured during those first years were
378. 14:10there any setbacks i think most we've
379. 14:13had extraordinary favor our bishops have
380. 14:17been so supportive
381. 14:19we've always been very transparent open
382. 14:21with our bishops you know uh we haven't
383. 14:24you know tried to hide anything um i
384. 14:26think because we're very catholic you
385. 14:29know we're very careful about our
386. 14:30doctrine we work strongly ecumenically
387. 14:34but our doctrine is really orthodox you
388. 14:36know we've got a deeply author deeply
389. 14:38rooted in the mystic tradition of the
390. 14:40cat of the church you know and so i
391. 14:42think the bishops we're very very
392. 14:45careful with the you know the behavior
393. 14:47of the young people uh you know we had
394. 14:50no scandals by god's grace uh in that
395. 14:52whole area uh and so i think the bishops
396. 14:55just felt that we were doing things
397. 14:57sensibly even though we were having this
398. 14:59experience of great power
399. 15:02and now we've got two scientists in the
400. 15:04community
401. 15:06and a couple of doctors so when we talk
402. 15:08about uh what's happening as far as the
403. 15:11signs and wonders are concerned you know
404. 15:13we've got people who give a great deal
405. 15:16of intellectual credibility to that side
406. 15:18of things in the community so it's
407. 15:20easier to accept damian you're a very
408. 15:23positive person but tell me um when did
409. 15:26things go badly did you always have
410. 15:28enough money
411. 15:29it always seems to be a struggle with
412. 15:31ministries well we live on providence
413. 15:33that i mean we live on providence so
414. 15:35when we run an event uh we we say to
415. 15:38people just just make a five pound
416. 15:40registration and then we make a donation
417. 15:43that way the poorest people
418. 15:45who come to our events can afford to
419. 15:47come and then we just trust that god is
420. 15:49gonna make it up you know somehow um but
421. 15:53there have been times when we were
422. 15:54really poor really hard up uh you know i
423. 15:57remember once it was so cold in this
424. 15:59house this is a great big old kind of
425. 16:01religious house we bought from the
426. 16:02salesians and uh so it's a bit like a
427. 16:05cave in places you know it's huge and um
428. 16:09i remember it was so cold
429. 16:11that uh the computers wouldn't work you
430. 16:13know we were living off just pasta and
431. 16:15beans sometimes you know and uh
432. 16:19that was before all the ministries
433. 16:21really got going you know we had to keep
434. 16:23holding on and trusting god and you know
435. 16:25the money would just you know would just
436. 16:28arrive i think when you have hope
437. 16:30hope is often forgotten you know when
438. 16:32you have when god has engraved a vision
439. 16:34inside you it's like the the obstacles
440. 16:38while they can be very difficult and we
441. 16:40have difficult times you know
442. 16:43somehow
443. 16:45they remain in their right perspective
444. 16:49because hope is seeing beyond them
445. 16:52constantly you know the the vision of
446. 16:54what's coming is bigger than what we're
447. 16:56going through right now and so you know
448. 16:58we would pray a lot you know we would
449. 17:00fast and we just kind of endured it and
450. 17:03we had the god gave us the grace to keep
451. 17:05going and we did feed our faith so we
452. 17:07went and visited other communities who
453. 17:09had passed through these times who were
454. 17:12the other side of these the first birth
455. 17:15pangs and that's very important we
456. 17:17integrated many things from other
457. 17:19communities that were working and put
458. 17:21those into the life of the community and
459. 17:23they kind of stabilized the community so
460. 17:25god helped us a lot through others
461. 17:27who've been gone ahead of us
462. 17:29damon we all know that we can do no good
463. 17:31without the grace of god and the holy
464. 17:33spirit
465. 17:34but realistically through this ministry
466. 17:38perhaps thousands have come to know the
467. 17:40lord better
468. 17:41tell me tell me what does that does to
469. 17:43your heart
470. 17:45tell me how you feel
471. 17:46when you can appreciate how god is
472. 17:49working through you
473. 17:51well
474. 17:52it goes from weeping over my sins and
475. 17:55with gratitude to the lord to just
476. 17:58you know just this is this is how it
477. 18:00should be this is this is like normal
478. 18:02christian life you know you you command
479. 18:05healing over a crowd and hundreds of
480. 18:07people come forward to testify they've
481. 18:09been healed you know or sometimes
482. 18:11thousands you know and you speak to
483. 18:15blind eyes and the blind eyes open and
484. 18:18it becomes
485. 18:19this normal you're living but actually
486. 18:22in the gospel and in the book of acts
487. 18:24this was normal
488. 18:25i know in the vatican council documents
489. 18:27it talks about these gifts as as
490. 18:30exceptional
491. 18:31you know or extraordinary rather
492. 18:33extraordinary but actually christians
493. 18:36are extraordinary that's our nature
494. 18:39so the the miraculous is something that
495. 18:42should be ordinary for christians
496. 18:45although extraordinary for
497. 18:47non-christians
498. 18:48so jesus says doesn't it anyone who
499. 18:51believes in me will perform the same
500. 18:53works that i do
501. 18:55now i'm not saying everybody's called to
502. 18:56a platform healing ministry or a
503. 18:58prophetic appointment ministry or you
504. 19:00know these things that we do and all
505. 19:01that or
506. 19:03delivering people from spirits or
507. 19:04whatever is the thing this is our joy
508. 19:07that we see this sometimes we just stand
509. 19:10and we feel like we're observers just
510. 19:12watching the manifestation of god
511. 19:14through us us for goodness sake us
512. 19:18who are we
513. 19:20and you know we i really feel this god
514. 19:22chose us because we were nothing special
515. 19:26we were the smallest prayer group in
516. 19:28london
517. 19:29and the fire of pentecost fell on us and
518. 19:31this explosion of supernatural then
519. 19:34erupted through the ministry damian the
520. 19:36reality is that you're in london i'm in
521. 19:39st louis and you have an impact in with
522. 19:42folks all over the world and we have a
523. 19:44gentleman who's with us who met you in
524. 19:46lubin poland in 2001 you invited him to
525. 19:49england to observe the way of life of
526. 19:52koret lumen christie
527. 19:54and he has been a member of the
528. 19:56community a member of the evangelization
529. 19:59team for many years
530. 20:01let's hear from him now
531. 20:04i met damian 20 years ago back in poland
532. 20:07he was running under the first skyrim
533. 20:09school what i saw an experience i have
534. 20:12to say
535. 20:13literally blew my mind
536. 20:15this call
537. 20:16to deep intimacy with the lord and also
538. 20:20the call to preach the good news and
539. 20:22expect signs and wonders
540. 20:24and see so many miracles
541. 20:27this made us
542. 20:28to come to england and join this
543. 20:30community because we wanted to
544. 20:32participate and have experience of this
545. 20:34early church communities it's a great
546. 20:37privilege
547. 20:39to see a man
548. 20:40who has been called by god to be a
549. 20:42prophetic sign to so many nations
550. 20:46and see this
551. 20:47biblical miracles and healings when
552. 20:50blind see and
553. 20:52death here and the lame walk
554. 20:55and have this amazing prophetic
555. 20:57experience and anointing
556. 21:00and still remain a sincere
557. 21:03and a humble man living a simple life
558. 21:06in this community he is bringing up
559. 21:08people next to him equipping them
560. 21:11and
561. 21:12sharing his heart but also he is the
562. 21:15first one to admit his fault and ask for
563. 21:18forgiveness
564. 21:20we have had a long journey and he he has
565. 21:23suffered because of my sins
566. 21:25and
567. 21:26greatly i would say
568. 21:29but he has never
569. 21:30given up
570. 21:32on me and other people
571. 21:34but most of all
572. 21:36having
573. 21:37and finding
574. 21:38the true source of joy that comes from
575. 21:41being
576. 21:42being with the lord and those
577. 21:45who truly loved us
578. 21:47in all of this
579. 21:48glory to god
580. 21:51that was marcin stetner from

582. 21:58damien and i mean this in a very
583. 22:00humble sense you are a gifted person
584. 22:04gifted as in
585. 22:05the parable where our lord talks about
586. 22:08giving the 5 000 talents
587. 22:11you have used this gift to train other
588. 22:13people to grow the church
589. 22:16tell me when did you first realize
590. 22:18that this was your gift to pass on these
591. 22:21charisms to multiply yourself if you
592. 22:24will like talents to build the church
593. 22:27i think i what i saw was that there's um
594. 22:32there was a i res just read the gospels
595. 22:34i looked at what jesus was doing
596. 22:36and jesus wasn't building a monument to
597. 22:39himself
598. 22:40he wasn't building the jesus ministry
599. 22:43you know international he was building
600. 22:46people he was proclaiming modeling
601. 22:49coming
602. 22:51you know dying on the cross for us but
603. 22:53he was empowering
604. 22:55his body
605. 22:57to do what he was doing
606. 23:00to proclaim as he was proclaiming to do
607. 23:02the signs that he was doing
608. 23:04and it seemed to me that uh it's it
609. 23:07what's needed in the church today
610. 23:10is for the church to know what is hers
611. 23:14what christ has
612. 23:16obtained for us what his promises mean
613. 23:20um
614. 23:21and these promises apply to all
615. 23:23christians there's nowhere in the bible
616. 23:25that it says these are the signs that
617. 23:27will follow damien stain it doesn't say
618. 23:29that jesus has a vision for all
619. 23:32believers to be mobilized and released
620. 23:35into the earth
621. 23:36and
622. 23:37so for me this thing you can't strictly
623. 23:39speaking train people in a charisma
624. 23:41charism is a free gift but you can train
625. 23:44people how to become more docile more
626. 23:47receptive more responsive and our
627. 23:50theology is that god wants to pour out
628. 23:53these charisms so when the scripture
629. 23:55says in paul
630. 23:57earnestly desire the spiritual gifts it
631. 24:00must be because god earnestly desires to
632. 24:02give them so if your approach is that
633. 24:07that god is earnestly
634. 24:09desiring to give them when you run a
635. 24:11workshop on healing your expectant faith
