  1. 0:00Now to the Iranian president. Mr.
  2. 0:02President, thank you for the time.
  3. 0:04>> Thank you.
  4. 0:05>> On Tuesday, President Trump told the UN
  5. 0:08that he's weighing whether to annihilate
  6. 0:11Iran or to make a grand bargain. On
  7. 0:14Wednesday, you stood at that same podium
  8. 0:16and said the United States were
  9. 0:19terrorists. But at the same time, your
  10. 0:22team through mediators was negotiating
  11. 0:24with Steve Wickoff and Jared Kushner.
  12. 0:28So is Iran choosing war or a deal?
  13. 0:35We did not choose war. The war was
  14. 0:38imposed on us. We do not seek war.
  15. 0:42Rather, whenever they attack us, we are
  16. 0:46forced to defend ourselves. We never
  17. 0:49started a war. But if they wish to keep
  18. 0:52fighting with us, we will respond
  19. 0:53strongly, resolutely. And today the
  20. 0:56pressures that they keep imposing on us
  21. 0:59is
  22. 1:01so that's to force us to surrender
  23. 1:04outside of a legal framework of
  24. 1:06international law which is impossible.
  25. 1:09>> Did anything change in the negotiations
  26. 1:12with Witoff and Kushner this week?
  27. 1:17>> That which is discussed and negotiated
  28. 1:21is within the framework of international
  29. 1:24law and
  30. 1:26what would be rightfully ours under
  31. 1:29international law. We never sought
  32. 1:31anything more.
  33. 1:33In result of that, based on that
  34. 1:36foundation, we're seeking an agreement
  35. 1:39if the counterpart agrees to it.
  36. 1:42>> The government's your government's
  37. 1:44conditions have been to lift the
  38. 1:46blockade, to lift the sanctions, to
  39. 1:48release frozen assets, to have Iran and
  40. 1:51Oman control the shipping lanes. That's
  41. 1:53what Iran has said that it wants. But
  42. 1:55what's Iran going to give?
  43. 1:59>> We have no problems. We did reach an
  44. 2:03agreement with your president which was
  45. 2:06signed. That agreement was signed and
  46. 2:08based on that we are willing and still
  47. 2:12wish to move forward and the framework
  48. 2:15was agreed upon. We had not closed the
  49. 2:18straight of hormones. It was open
  50. 2:21without any legal justification or
  51. 2:24framework. They attacked us. They
  52. 2:26assassinated and martyed our esteemed
  53. 2:28supreme leader. Our scientists are
  54. 2:31military commanders and government
  55. 2:33officials.
  56. 2:34>> I want to talk about that in a second.
  57. 2:37But specifically,
  58. 2:38will Iran stop firing on commercial
  59. 2:41ships no matter what flag it is?
  60. 2:44>> We have not attacked. The problem is
  61. 2:47that when a straight Those who have been
  62. 2:50responsible for a lifetime for that
  63. 2:52straight, they are forbidden from moving
  64. 2:55their vessels through that waterway.
  65. 2:57Then of course we will not recognize
  66. 2:59that right for other vessels. Now
  67. 3:01America is forbidding our transit
  68. 3:03through that waterway. For what reason?
  69. 3:06Based on what foundation
  70. 3:08isn't navigation supposed to be free?
  71. 3:11>> Will you give up the 60% enriched
  72. 3:14uranium?
  73. 3:16>> Yes. within the framework of
  74. 3:19international law based on the
  75. 3:21nonprololiferation treaty. Whatever we
  76. 3:23are supposed to adhere to, we will.
  77. 3:26>> Will you stop arming Hezbollah and the
  78. 3:28Houthis as part of a deal? Will you tell
  79. 3:31the Houthis to stop attacking Saudi
  80. 3:33Arabia?
  81. 3:36>> The Houthis are responsible for their
  82. 3:37own actions. They don't take directions
  83. 3:40from us
  84. 3:42as those who are resisting in the
  85. 3:46region. based on the situations that
  86. 3:48have been imposed on them. We have
  87. 3:51contacts with them. There is no
  88. 3:52systematic relationship
  89. 3:56in reality as those who resist. We feel
  90. 4:00that there is in reality
  91. 4:03a sort of common framework.
  92. 4:06>> With all due respect, Mr. President,
  93. 4:08there's a long tie between Iran funding
  94. 4:10the Hezbollah
  95. 4:12and also funding the Houthis. And there
  96. 4:15is intelligence in many intelligence
  97. 4:18agencies that suggests those messages
  98. 4:21come directly from Iran. You're
  99. 4:22disputing all of that
  100. 4:25>> vis the war and conflict to the extent
  101. 4:29that I'm aware of as since the time I
  102. 4:32took over official responsibilities.
  103. 4:34There has been no such contact directing
  104. 4:37them to engage from a humanitarian
  105. 4:40standpoint and human rights standpoint.
  106. 4:42You talked about the June negotiated uh
  107. 4:46effort that you and President Trump
  108. 4:49signed, the Islamabad memorandum, the
  109. 4:51so-called.
  110. 4:52Uh a few weeks later, the Revolutionary
  111. 4:55Guard forces fired on three ships and
  112. 4:57set a cuttery gas tanker on fire. The
  113. 5:00deal collapsed. It's reported that you
  114. 5:02called the IRGC commander, General of
  115. 5:05Aiti, and and he said he did not
  116. 5:07authorize those attacks. If that's true,
  117. 5:10who gave the order for those attacks?
  118. 5:16>> You see, the problems, the difficulties
  119. 5:18that exist in the region is a lack of
  120. 5:21coordination. A lack of coordination
  121. 5:23between the United States and those who
  122. 5:26are in the region, specifically in Iran,
  123. 5:28and wish to move forward within the
  124. 5:30framework of that agreement. as it has
  125. 5:32been brought into the agreement. In the
  126. 5:35implementation of that agreement, there
  127. 5:37have been misunderstandings.
  128. 5:38>> But it happened in April too. Sir, your
  129. 5:41foreign minister said the strait was
  130. 5:42completely open. The next day, the
  131. 5:44revolutionary guard attack ships twice.
  132. 5:46Your diplomats made a promise and the
  133. 5:48next day the revolutionary guard broke
  134. 5:51it within a day. Now just go back to
  135. 5:53January. Your government said that you
  136. 5:55ordered no force against the protesters
  137. 5:57in the streets. Thousands ended up being
  138. 5:59killed in March. March 7th, you said
  139. 6:03this about your military firing on
  140. 6:05neighboring countries.
  141. 6:07>> The champions that are sacrificing their
  142. 6:09lives to defend our territorial
  143. 6:10integrity fired at will because their
  144. 6:12commanders were absent and did whatever
  145. 6:14was necessary.
  146. 6:16>> Then you apologized personally to Iran's
  147. 6:19neighbors for those attacks. Then back
  148. 6:21in July, commanders attacked ships
  149. 6:23without your knowledge. So Mr.
  150. 6:26President, there's three times that you
  151. 6:28gave a specific order and someone
  152. 6:30overrode you. So, who is in control of
  153. 6:34Iran?
  154. 6:36You see, that which occurred in Iran
  155. 6:41and the your president announces that
  156. 6:4470,000 people have been killed.
  157. 6:47We made public the national
  158. 6:50identification numbers and the birth
  159. 6:52certificates of 3,5 people. If there
  160. 6:57there is any additional information such
  161. 6:59as 40,000 individuals, 70,000, someone
  162. 7:02should furnish proof. So, it's not true.
  163. 7:06Of these 3,000 some people who lost
  164. 7:08their precious lives, about 500 of them
  165. 7:11consisted of the security and police
  166. 7:13forces. Your own president announced
  167. 7:17that they armed and equipped instigators
  168. 7:21and this was supposed to lead uh to a
  169. 7:25coup, not in support of street protests,
  170. 7:30of peaceful protests
  171. 7:32and those in the armed forces and
  172. 7:34security forces who lost their lives is
  173. 7:37unprecedented. Why? because the
  174. 7:40firepower from the rioters was the new
  175. 7:43element introduced in this 3,000 uh plus
  176. 7:47people regular citizens and individuals
  177. 7:50lost their lives. has been proven shown
  178. 7:52in photos and clips and it was quite
  179. 7:55unfortunate and that's why we apologize
  180. 7:59due to the lackluster management of the
  181. 8:03events should have been managed better
  182. 8:06to allow someone to weaponize a
  183. 8:10demonstration in the streets. That's
  184. 8:12unacceptable. You're talking about the
  185. 8:14January attacks and you said to your
  186. 8:16people we're ashamed before the people
  187. 8:19was the quote. You did publish the 3000
  188. 8:22number. A human rights group said it was
  189. 8:246,221
  190. 8:26with 17,000 more deaths under review.
  191. 8:28Time magazine had a report that a
  192. 8:31hospital list of 30,000 deaths January
  193. 8:338th and 9th alone, but more than 41,000
  194. 8:36were arrested and now the numbers are
  195. 8:38well more than that unreported.
  196. 8:41understanding what you reported
  197. 8:43publicly, Mr. President, that's the
  198. 8:45January incident. You're a heart
  199. 8:47surgeon.
  200. 8:49How many Iranians did Iran security
  201. 8:52forces kill?
  202. 8:54>> You see, it's not very difficult.
  203. 8:57You can send people there
  204. 8:59in order to ascertain the truth. what
  205. 9:02such and such journal reports outside of
  206. 9:05the country is contrary to the accurate
  207. 9:09recollection of events when they say
  208. 9:1210,000 17,000 why don't they furnish at
  209. 9:15least two national identification
  210. 9:17numbers
  211. 9:17>> back to the first part about the
  212. 9:19revolutionary guard initiating attacks
  213. 9:22after you sign a deal theou two other
  214. 9:25specific times if you sign a deal who
  215. 9:28guarantees the revolutionary guard is
  216. 9:30going to obey
  217. 9:37We were supposed to put a team according
  218. 9:39to thisou in order to coordinate any
  219. 9:44misunderstandings
  220. 9:45or correct lack of coordination. We did
  221. 9:48never have we never had the chance to
  222. 9:51establish and set up this team. This is
  223. 9:53not only from us. The same holds true
  224. 9:56for the American forces that are present
  225. 9:58in the region and open fire at will on
  226. 10:01any location when they wish. In order to
  227. 10:03prevent such events from taking place,
  228. 10:06two groups must be identified and have
  229. 10:08open channels of communication so as to
  230. 10:11be able to prevent such instances from
  231. 10:15occurring, not only reacting.
  232. 10:17>> But why should President Trump negotiate
  233. 10:19with you and not with IRGC commander
  234. 10:21General Vahiti?
  235. 10:24You see the problem that we face
  236. 10:27is that there is a deep mistrust that
  237. 10:30has formed between us. The reason for it
  238. 10:33is that prior in the JCPOA we did reach
  239. 10:37an agreement under the JCPOA that your
  240. 10:40president tore that up. If we are unable
  241. 10:43to trust one another within the
  242. 10:45framework of a dialogue, how can we hope
  243. 10:47that these issues will ever be
  244. 10:49resolvable? But as I just said, the
  245. 10:51Revolutionary Guard fired on those ships
  246. 10:53after theou in the days after. You've
  247. 10:55said the Supreme Leader decides. He's
  248. 10:58the ultimate decider. Then did the
  249. 11:00Supreme Leader approve destroying your
  250. 11:04own deal.
  251. 11:08We would never attack our own
  252. 11:10population.
  253. 11:11You know the things
  254. 11:13>> you did, huh? No. No.
  255. 11:17who conducted terrorist actions against
  256. 11:20us, who hit our schools.
  257. 11:23I understand, but in January 8th and
  258. 11:259th, you definitely had security forces
  259. 11:27that killed Iranian citizens.
  260. 11:32>> Mr. Trump himself announced that we had
  261. 11:35equipped and armed these people in order
  262. 11:37to bring down the Iranian government.
  263. 11:40Netanyahu's
  264. 11:41people announced that from Kurdistan and
  265. 11:44Baluchistan province forces would be
  266. 11:47penetrating the major metropolitan
  267. 11:49centers in order to bring down the
  268. 11:51government. They thought that it was a
  269. 11:54three it would be a three-day affair
  270. 11:55that the government would fall. It
  271. 11:57remained steadfast, became more
  272. 11:59cohesive, became more united. Even those
  273. 12:03who stood against the Iranian government
  274. 12:06opposed us for a number of reasons. Now
  275. 12:08they are supporting Iran.
  276. 12:10>> When is the last time you saw the
  277. 12:12Supreme Leader in person? Is he healthy?
  278. 12:15Is he able to govern
  279. 12:17>> precisely? I don't remember the dates.
  280. 12:20About a month, month and a half ago. I
  281. 12:22we met and about seven hours.
  282. 12:24>> You saw him in person a month ago.
  283. 12:27>> Yes. Seven hours. As I said earlier, we
  284. 12:30conducted talks.
  285. 12:31>> And is he healthy? Is he able to govern
  286. 12:33very much so completely
  287. 12:37the implementation of the policies
  288. 12:41is in the hands of the administration
  289. 12:43and the government but the consultations
  290. 12:45and the directions come from there.
  291. 12:47>> Why haven't we seen a video of the
  292. 12:49Supreme Leader addressing the Iranian
  293. 12:51people, addressing this war, even
  294. 12:52addressing President Trump?
  295. 12:58Well, this is a process was created in
  296. 13:02our society which is the lack of
  297. 13:04security that was created by for the
  298. 13:06action of foreigners but the action of
  299. 13:08aggressors. The American president
  300. 13:11announced that we are terrorists
  301. 13:14but in reality everyone can easily
  302. 13:16distinguish that we've been the victim
  303. 13:17and the targets of terrorism. And then
  304. 13:20they say no we didn't. They deny the
  305. 13:23obvious truth, but yet they accuse us of
  306. 13:26such actions. We wish to live in the
  307. 13:28region with peace. Will you rule out
  308. 13:32executing protesters if they take to the
  309. 13:34streets?
  310. 13:36>> Whomever wishes to protest is fully
  311. 13:40entitled to do so. We sat and had a
  312. 13:44dialogue with many of these protesters.
  313. 13:46Now, weaponizing protests, that's a
  314. 13:48whole different affair. illegal
  315. 13:50everywhere. A lot of people have issues.
  316. 13:53They want to challenge policies or
  317. 13:55implementations of policies. We sit and
  318. 13:57discuss and reach a mutually agreeable
  319. 14:00conclusion.
  320. 14:02>> We answer to the people but not with a
  321. 14:05weapon.
  322. 14:06>> Mr. President, uh the Chinese President
  323. 14:08Xi is at the White House today. There
  324. 14:10was a Wall Street Journal report uh that
  325. 14:12Iran obtained highresolution satellite
  326. 14:14images of the US base in Jordan from
  327. 14:17Chinese entities before the July 17th
  328. 14:20missile strike. Three American soldiers
  329. 14:22were killed there. So did Chinese
  330. 14:24satellite images help kill American
  331. 14:28soldiers at the hands of Iran?
  332. 14:32>> We do not seek to kill Americans.
  333. 14:35As shown by actions, demonstrable
  334. 14:37actions, America has sought to kill
  335. 14:39Iranians.
  336. 14:41Why do
  337. 14:42>> But they were killed there. Did you
  338. 14:44satellite images?
  339. 14:44>> Not at all. Not at all.
  340. 14:46>> No.
  341. 14:47>> Number one, I am specifically unaware of
  342. 14:51these reported purported images that you
  343. 14:54talk about. Now, what militaries do with
  344. 14:58one another between two countries, it is
  345. 15:01their own business within their own
  346. 15:03guidelines. Now, if the Chinese wish to
  347. 15:05do that, if they could move heaven and
  348. 15:08earth, they would free some of the funds
  349. 15:10in order to pay for the goods that we
  350. 15:12have sold to them. But politically,
  351. 15:16China in reality is much more on the
  352. 15:19side that we must move forward with
  353. 15:21dialogue and negotiations.
  354. 15:23>> Well, China buys most of your oil still.
  355. 15:27Is Beijing paying for this war?
  356. 15:29>> Uh, one of the problems that we face is
  357. 15:32that our money in China is blocked. The
  358. 15:36fact that you touched upon earlier the
  359. 15:40the accusations that we supply so and so
  360. 15:42with fundings, we can't even get our own
  361. 15:45money out of a country to which we have
  362. 15:47supplied goods, let alone using those
  363. 15:49funds to pay someone else in another
  364. 15:50corner of the world. So the framing of
  365. 15:53this as is reported in society is
  366. 15:57incorrect because they want to use it as
  367. 16:00a tool in order to justify aggression.
  368. 16:02>> Mr. President, you've said that you
  369. 16:04don't know sometimes when the military
  370. 16:06acts and you've said that they've acted
  371. 16:10without your order. You've said that you
  372. 16:12don't know anything about the Chinese
  373. 16:14satellite images being used by the
  374. 16:16military to target the US bases. Do you
  375. 16:18know what your military is going to do
  376. 16:22tomorrow or the next day?
  377. 16:25>> What we know
  378. 16:26>> is that if we're attacked, we must
  379. 16:28defend ourselves.
