- 0:09so
- 0:10um well congratulations this is an
- 0:12incredible looking car
- 0:14can you explain to me first of all
- 0:16exactly what the connection is with the
- 0:17avatar
- 0:18is it inspired by the films yes
- 0:22definitely we were watching the movie
- 0:24quite in the beginning from the process
- 0:26and uh right then starting sketching and
- 0:29seeing the
- 0:30shapes first of the movies and also
- 0:32trying to
- 0:34pull out the core values which the movie
- 0:36transfers like
- 0:37sustainability in harmony with nature
- 0:40also bring it in harmony with our brand
- 0:42philosophy
- 0:43to have the best of two worlds basically
- 0:46so this notion of humans and machines
- 0:48merging that's very much what we see
- 0:50with the avtr isn't that right yes it's
- 0:53a human machine merge
- 0:55and it's not just the normal car anymore
- 0:59it's a living object
- 1:00that interacts with you the rhythm of
- 1:02your poles will
- 1:04be shown in the car and you will feel
- 1:06the car is alive
- 1:07so working really close to the interior
- 1:09designer
- 1:10and user experience designer we created
- 1:13a
- 1:13inside out holistic sculpture so it's
- 1:17sort of
- 1:18self-aware that's amazing
- 1:20[Music]
- 1:23you are standing beside the craziest
- 1:26wheels
- 1:27i think i've ever seen in any car the
- 1:29sort of lights
- 1:30were inspired by the wind sprites in the
- 1:32film is that right right yeah exactly
- 1:34the wood sprite was kind of like the
- 1:37most
- 1:38striking and iconic thing to me it is
- 1:40about the round shape which is
- 1:42friendly and it's about the movement
- 1:45which is really fluent and the
- 1:47interaction with the
- 1:49characters by having the spherical shape
- 1:51from far you already see okay it's
- 1:54really stunning round proportion and
- 1:56might be soft
- 1:57and that's also the thought behind
- 2:00because you can drive around
- 2:01on different terrain without harming the
- 2:04environment it's really
- 2:06nice to look at it's almost hypnotic the
- 2:09core
- 2:10is more stable core it's more metal
- 2:13and outside is the rubber we had to
- 2:16prototype
- 2:16a totally different tyre concept
- 2:20it's a paradigm shift you don't see it
- 2:22that's the rim
- 2:23that's the tire it looks more like a
- 2:26grown
- 2:27sculpture oh that's that's fascinating
- 2:29the side of the car
- 2:30how do how do we get in and out of it
- 2:32the doors
- 2:34they open like a typical mercedes gull
- 2:37wing
- 2:37looking at the banshee dragon from the
- 2:39movie it's quite similar
- 2:41gesture because the wing movement and
- 2:43the car is
- 2:44basically transferring that the other
- 2:46area that's
- 2:47incredibly fascinating the avtr is the
- 2:50at the rear so what do these do yeah
- 2:53here
- 2:54on the back of the car 33 flaps and the
- 2:56main function
- 2:58is the communicative aspect so
- 3:00approaching the car
- 3:01you already see like oh something's
- 3:03happening like the car has its own
- 3:05life let's say and then you step into
- 3:08the car
- 3:09and you drive it you're driving more
- 3:11aggressively you accelerate
- 3:13it can move towards the direction and
- 3:16that's also the
- 3:18show your intention as a driver from the
- 3:20inside to the outside
- 3:26welcome to the interior of the avtr
- 3:28these seats were inspired by this leaf
- 3:30hammocks in the film mvtr
- 3:32this loop connects the interior
- 3:35perfectly
- 3:36it grows up it becomes the headrest of
- 3:38the front seat when it's going downwards
- 3:40again
- 3:41and becomes the center console in the
- 3:43center is growing
- 3:44over the dash into the a-pillars and
- 3:46then again to the open line
- 3:48this is just a symbolic for this
- 3:52connection between exterior design
- 3:54interior design
- 3:55and the ui ux system okay so the idea of
- 3:59a human and the machine merging how does
- 4:02that actually work
- 4:04the control button we just called merge
- 4:06controller is located in the center
- 4:08so everything is absolutely symmetrical
- 4:11i just laid my head down
- 4:13on the center console now i'm connected
- 4:15with the car the heart speed of the car
- 4:17is just now synchronizing with my
- 4:19heartbeat
- 4:20now i'm able to steer the car it's not
- 4:23steering in a normal way it's more or
- 4:24less conducting yeah like riding on a
- 4:26horse
- 4:27the horse is just riding by himself but
- 4:30i could give him a hint into one
- 4:32direction
- 4:32with a normal steering wheel you could
- 4:34not steer the front and the reels
- 4:35separately
- 4:37this one allows that because we could
- 4:39move forwards backwards or we could
- 4:41rotate
- 4:42it's a totally different um kind of
- 4:45driving
- 4:46[Music]
- 4:50sustainability is obviously a major
- 4:52aspect of this car what have you got in
- 4:54in in the avtr what are you sitting on
- 4:57it's dynamic dynamic is just an
- 5:00artificial leather
- 5:01um it is made of old clothes
- 5:04and recycled pt bottles so 100
- 5:08sustainable and vegan for sure and this
- 5:12fabric here is um made out of recycled
- 5:15pt bottles as well
- 5:16on the floor we just work with that kind
- 5:19of ratan it is
- 5:20called carhoons with using that material
- 5:23because it
- 5:24means that the rainforest should be has
- 5:27to grow up as well
- 5:28so it's just in balance
- 5:31[Music]
- 5:35i'm struck by the fact that it's 6
- 5:36meters long quite difficult basically
- 5:40control the proportions and the form
- 5:42language of a car
- 5:44that is that long we started off with a
- 5:46simple
- 5:47basic pen sketches pen and paper to see
- 5:50the
- 5:51relationships of the height the length
- 5:53the width
- 5:54and after this stage a 2d rendering in
- 5:56photoshop trade into
- 5:593d modeling but in the end you can't
- 6:02replace the physical clay model nothing
- 6:05can beat
- 6:06also your human senses of seeing it with
- 6:09your own eyes and touching it also
- 6:11i'm just trying to think how you would
- 6:13summarize it i mean you could summarize
- 6:14it in one word and that would be harmony
- 6:16i mean this
- 6:16this is about sustainable transport
- 6:18sustainable luxury
- 6:20also a vehicle that interacts with
- 6:23nature
- 6:23completely harmoniously rather than
- 6:25being at odds with it
- 6:26it's not about taking advantage of
- 6:29something
- 6:30of your environment of other people
- 6:32being responsible also for
- 6:34what you create and this car shows
- 6:37or gives at least the message that we
- 6:40want to go in that direction
- 6:41congratulations you've you know it's an
- 6:43amazing amazing looking thing
- 6:53[Music]
- 6:59you
