0:04these Beauties from s tier stunners to
0:06the ones that are in my mind a uh a bit
0:08over breed no specific order here just
0:11pure unfiltered opinions from years of
0:13tank keeping experience get ready to
0:15agree argue and everything in between
0:17because we're settling the beta debate
0:19once and for all first we have the koi
0:22beta I know it's got the looks like
0:24seriously knockout the shimmering Reds
0:27whites and blues it's practically the
0:29fish equival of a fireworks show on the
0:314th of July if we're talking about pure
0:32Aesthetics this little swimmer
0:34definitely punches way above its weight
0:36class but it's got attitude and a lot of
0:39it this little guy struts around the
0:41tank like it's running its own personal
0:43Empire put it with anything that even
0:45looks like it well consider that an
0:47instant respawn for the other fish the
0:49kietta just doesn't do well in community
0:51setups it's pretty much a lone wolf this
0:53little diva needs warm water we're
0:56talking about 76 to 80° f a stable pH
0:59and enough space to stretch those Fancy
1:01Fins 5 gallons is the absolute minimum
1:03if you don't want to end up with a
1:05stressed out miserable fish and don't
1:07forget the filter heater and maybe even
1:09some silk plants to keep those delicate
1:11fins from getting shredded if you're
1:13thinking about putting it in one of
1:14those tiny glass bowls like a living
1:16table decoration forget it this guy's
1:18got needs and let's not forget the Ki
1:20beta's marble Jean now if you play video
1:23games you know all about RNG yeah think
1:26about that you never know what you're
1:27going to get one day your beta's rocking
1:29red white and blue and the next it looks
1:31like someone dipped it in Gold if you're
1:32into surprises it's awesome but if you
1:34want consistency yeah not happening it's
1:37like rolling the dice every week cool
1:39for some frustrating for others then
1:41there's the diamond eye condition it
1:43sounds like a sick upgrade but it's
1:44actually a serious Nerf over time it can
1:47blind your beta which is honestly just
1:49sad so yeah for all the Swagger and
1:52Beauty the koi beta's got some pretty
1:53noticeable drawbacks that keep it from
1:55climbing any higher on the tier list so
1:58the KY beta solid SE tier looks great
2:01plays solo high maintenance and rolls
2:03the RNG dice on Aesthetics here's the
2:06double tail beta don't let that
2:07beautiful flowing aesthetic fool you
2:09because behind those Majestic fins lies
2:11the spirit of a WWE Champion brother
2:14always ready to throw down they're like
2:16that guard dog that thinks everyone's a
2:18Potential Threat always keeping an eye
2:20out for anything that might cross the
2:21line stick your hand in the tank and
2:23they'll follow you around practically
2:25side eyeing you like you better not try
2:27anything funny pal personality they've
2:29got it in Spades they are active curious
2:32and absolutely not afraid to get Scrappy
2:34if you bring in the wrong neighbors they
2:35might look elegant Almost Royal when
2:37they drift around the tank but they are
2:39definitely not the Live and Let Live
2:41type when it comes to territory now on
2:43the plus side they're easy to care for
2:45so you don't need a massive tank or a
2:46complicated setup just enough space to
2:48let them stretch those dramatic fins and
2:51a lid because these Bas do like a good
2:53gulp of air from time to time
2:54temperature control nothing too fancy
2:56just keep it stable and they're good to
2:58go but here's the catch those big flowy
3:00flowy fins sure they look incredible
3:03like they were designed for an
3:04underwater fashion show but they've also
3:06got a bit of a liability think of it
3:08like wearing an extravagant gown to a
3:10street fight it's impressive but it's
3:12definitely not practical the long fins
3:15make them vulnerable slowing them down
3:16and making them a target for nips if
3:18there are any tank mates around who
3:19aren't feeling the Royal Vibes so where
3:22does that leave us the double tail beta
3:24is absolutely stunning but that beauty
3:26comes at a cost they're more of a
3:28specialist fish kept a best alone where
3:31they can be the sole star of the show
3:33without worrying about their Fancy Fins
3:35getting shredded for that reason they're
3:37Landing solidly in the D tier gorgeous
3:40to look at full of personality but
3:43definitely not the easiest fish to keep
3:45in a community setting the Delta tail
3:48beta is like the James Bond of the Fish
3:50World slick symmetrical and undeniably
3:53Charming what makes it stand out well
3:56it's all about that perfect triangular
3:57coddle fin picture this draw a straight
4:00line from its nose and you've got equal
4:02amounts of fin on either side unlike the
4:04veil tail which looks like it's been
4:06caught in a permanent gust of wind the
4:08Delta tail stays elegant and composed
4:11like it's always ready for a tuxedo
4:13moment and those colors yeah they are
4:15impressive we're talking about metallic
4:17Blues Reds and combinations that could
4:20give the American flag a run for its
4:21money bold beautiful and ready to
4:24impress you're probably thinking do I
4:26need a massive tank for this work of art
4:29nope a simple 5-gallon Tank's all you
4:31need it's like owning a luxury car that
4:33fits in the compact spot easy
4:34maintenance no extra drama the Delta
4:37tail is all about that Chill Lifestyle
4:39thriving in temperatures between 75 and
4:4186° F with slow moving Waters so keep
4:44those currents relaxed they're used to
4:46taking it easy so no need to throw them
4:48into a Whirlpool feed them quality
4:50carnivore food like blood worms or brine
4:52shrimp and they'll be living their best
4:54life it's kind of like feeding a
4:55celebrity they like the Gourmet stuff
4:57but without the attitude so where does
4:59the delta Tail land on this tier list
5:01let's be real it's a solid B tier
5:03they're not exactly the half moon beta
5:05which is like a red carpet Superstar of
5:07the better world but hey they hold their
5:09own the Delta Tail's got looks it's
5:11hearty and it's easy to care for the
5:14kind of fish are happy to have around
5:15low drama High style and definitely not
5:18going to disappoint again solid B tier
5:20but the kind that'll make you proud you
5:21picked it like the Dependable friend
5:23who's always down for a good time
5:24without stealing the spotlight the Dumbo
5:27beta is like that one friend who shows
5:28up to a pool party in a full tux they
5:31look amazing but they're not exactly
5:33built for swimming these fish are
5:34undeniably beautiful with their
5:36oversized flowing fins that resemble a
5:39tiny aquatic Angel those big elephan ear
5:42fins make them stand out in any tank but
5:44they're also a massive disadvantage
5:46picture trying to swim with two dinner
5:48plates strapped to your arms that's the
5:51daily life of a dumbo beta the sheer
5:53weight and drag of those fins means that
5:55they're getting from one side of the
5:56tank to the other in a workout in the
5:59while this kind of inefficiency would
6:01spell disaster it's like wearing a
6:03parachute when you're trying to sprint
6:04in captivity they're not much better off
6:06every flick of those gorgeous fins takes
6:08effort and while they look Majestic
6:10doing it you can't help but feel like
6:12they're fighting an uphill battle every
6:13day now don't get me wrong Dumbo betas
6:15are heart meltingly adorable if you're
6:18all about Aesthetics and can provide a
6:20perfectly controlled lowf flow
6:21environment they're a lovely addition
6:23but let's be real we're ranking these
6:25fish on practicality viability and
6:27quality of life in the Dumbo beta
6:29severely lacking in all of those
6:31categories it's like buying a sports car
6:33with no engine sure looks great in the
6:35driveway but it's not going anywhere
6:37fast so where do I place the Dumbo beta
6:40well in terms of pure looks easy a tier
6:42but when you factor in their struggle to
6:44thrive they drop all the way down to F
6:47gorgeous to look at yes but at what cost
6:50sometimes you got to look beyond the
6:51beauty and ask is this fish really built
6:53to live its best life unfortunately for
6:55them the answer here is a resounding no
6:58here's a cool looking these dragon scale
7:00breeds didn't just appear out of nowhere
7:02they are the result of some serious
7:04selective breeding picture a wild beta
7:06Mah Hawkeye crossed with a beta
7:08splendens and Bam you got the dragon
7:10scale beta flaunting those shiny
7:12metallic scales that breeders all over
7:14Thailand and Asia absolutely went nuts
7:16for and honestly can you blame them
7:18these fish look like they're draped in
7:20medieval armor ready to joust or strut
7:22down the red carpet but just like that
7:24one friend who's all about appearances
7:26dragon scale bet has come with some
7:28complications sure they're pretty but
7:30they need their own little kingdom at
7:31least a 5 gallon tank complete with
7:33plants and warm water where they can
7:35reign supreme set it up right and
7:37they'll act like they own the place and
7:39let's be real they do these guys are
7:41divas through and through but let's get
7:44to the downsides because you knew there
7:45had to be one all that shiny metallic
7:48beauty comes at a cost diamond eye it's
7:50a condition where their scales literally
7:52grow over their eyes leaving them blind
7:54and it's not rare either it's common
7:56enough that several beta YouTubers are
7:58out here waving red Flags telling folks
8:00not to buy them and honestly I'm with
8:03them yes you could technically learn how
8:04to remove the overgrown scale but unless
8:06you're ready to become an amateur fish
8:08surgeon that's a lot of stress for both
8:10you and the fish so supporting this kind
8:13of breeding practice not for me no
8:15thanks where do they fall in the tier
8:17list e tier they are undeniably gorgeous
8:20like s tier gorgeous but they're saddled
8:22with way too much baggage if you're okay
8:24with potentially needing to perform
8:26fishy eye surgery then go for it but for
8:28most of us these Divas are not worth the
8:30hassle stunning but impractical e tier
8:33and that's final if you want a fish
8:36that's all beauty without the attitude
8:38problem meet the female Beta they're
8:40like the chilled out cousin of the
8:41flashy male beta but you know less drama
8:43more Harmony you won't catch them
8:45turning your tank into an underwater
8:47soap opera instead they're just vibing
8:49fitting in perfectly in a community
8:51setting without all the aggression you
8:52get from the mails okay okay so maybe
8:55they don't have those long flowy fins
8:57and they're not busy building bubble
8:58nests like their showoff male
9:00counterparts but guess what that just
9:02means they're not wasting their time
9:03flexing or picking fights female BS are
9:06here for the fun not the A theatrics and
9:08don't even get me started on their glow
9:09up back in the day female betas used to
9:12be pretty plain but now they're rocking
9:14Reds Blues purples you name it they've
9:16got the color without the chaos and
9:18honestly that is a win they still have
9:21that cute stubby body and that egg spot
9:23that's like their little Badge of
9:25calmness they might not have those over
9:26the- top ventral fins but who cares when
9:28you got TR for days it's like the
9:30easygoing friend who naturally is just
9:33cool they never try hard and they still
9:35get all the compliments bobas are an
9:37easy a tier for me they've got the
9:39beauty they've got the chill and they're
9:41perfect for a community tank no stress
9:44no mess just vibrant color and peaceful
9:46Vibes baby if you're looking for a beta
9:48that brings all the looks but none of
9:50the drama that these ladies are the real
9:52MVPs a tier without a doubt the pat beta
9:56is not your typical pretty boy it's not
9:58one of those betas with long blowing
9:59fins that look like they're competing in
10:01some kind of underwater beauty pageant
10:02nope the patetta is more like that
10:04Scrappy non-nonsense brawler that's
10:06ready to throw down at a moment's notice
10:08think of them as the featherweight champ
10:09of the beta World compact muscular and
10:12always down for Action the name plot
10:14actually comes from Thailand where it
10:16means biting fish and believe me they
10:18live up to that name these guys have
10:19been bred for centuries for fish fights
10:21in Southeast Asia and they're basically
10:23the OG Gladiators of your aquarium short
10:26fins mean less drag making them Swift
10:28and agile like they were built for Speed
10:31not drama imagine that one kid in
10:33DodgeBall who never seems to get hit
10:35always darting always moving that's a
10:37bat beta for you evading attacks and
10:39staying a step ahead of the game in
10:41terms of Personality let's just say
10:43they're not the most sociable like the
10:44guy at the gim who's always Shadow
10:46Boxing in the corner focused intense and
10:49not really here to make friends with the
10:51highest aggression potential among betas
10:53these little dudes have some serious
10:55attitude but what they lack in
10:56friendliness they more than make up for
10:58impure energy unlike some of the long
11:01finned betas that like to Lounge at the
11:02bottom of the tank plots are always on
11:04the Move patrolling their territory like
11:06they're the boss they don't slow down as
11:08they age either these guys stay active
11:11cruising around as if they're training
11:12for their next match are they the most
11:15stunning better you can buy well depends
11:16on your taste they don't have the
11:18flowing Elegance of long fin varieties
11:20but they've got a rugged charm sort of
11:21rough around the edges appeal that's
11:23hard not to respect it's like comparing
11:25a classic muscle car to a luxury sedan
11:27sure one's all about lines and luxury
11:30but the other has raw power and grit
11:32let's not forget some Pats are
11:34absolutely gorgeous breeders have worked
11:36their magic to create some real
11:38showstoppers here so if you're into a
11:40beta that's not afraid to get its fins
11:41dirty but still look good doing it the
11:43bat is the one I'm placing these guys in
11:46a tier they're Hardy energetic and
11:48they've got that Scrappy Underdog Vibe
11:50that's hard not to root for sure they
11:52come with a side of aggression but if
11:53you're ready for it they're a blast to
11:55keep now the giant bet is exactly what
11:58it says on the tin in it's your standard
12:00beta just super sized but don't let that
12:02fool you into thinking it's just a
12:03regular fish with a mild growth spurt
12:06these Giants can hit up to 6 in long and
12:09trust me for a beta that's big compared
12:11to your typical beta this guy's like the
12:13heavyweight champion of the tank they've
12:14got all the flare of your standard beta
12:16those bright colors flowing fins but
12:18packed into a bigger frame that demands
12:20a bit more space giant betas aren't just
12:22about size though they've got
12:24personality to match if you think a
12:26regular beta has an attitude just wait
12:28till you see this guy FL at his
12:29reflection it's kind of like watching a
12:31small dog barking at a much bigger
12:32Shadow plus they're going to need more
12:34food they might be bigger but they're
12:36still betas at heart with all the Sass
12:38and stubbornness you would expect for
12:40the tier list I'm putting the giant beta
12:42as a solid e tier it's got the looks and
12:45the personality but with the extra care
12:47and space it's not the easiest fit for
12:49every tank beautiful absolutely
12:51practical for beginners and not so much
12:55ooh here's one you've been waiting for
12:56the half moon pleat beta honestly
12:59there's only one fish I can see in sest
13:01here a real showstopper in the tank the
13:04half moon paba or as the hobby calls
13:06them the hmpk now this isn't your
13:09run-of-the-mill beta fish these Beauties
13:11are a combination of sleek elegance and
13:14a bit of that classic beta attitude the
13:16half moon plat beta has a shorter fin
13:18style compared to its long fin relatives
13:21which make it a little more agile and
13:22ready to rumble but what makes this fish
13:24special is that they've got the perfect
13:26balance of looks and hardiness they have
13:29enough fancy in the fins Department to
13:31look amazing and have shorter fins so
13:33they can still swim around and be part
13:35of a community tank hmpk still have the
13:38pat aggression which means you can't
13:40just toss them into a tank and expect
13:42Harmony be careful in your tank mate
13:44selection something I cover in a

13:47the screen hmpk earn their s tier status
13:51best all-around beta fish you can buy
13:53today and it's not even a contest next
13:56up is the alien beta if you've been in
13:59the hobby for a while you probably heard
14:00folks throw around this name like it's
14:02just another wild better variety but let
14:04me tell you there's a lot more to this
14:07story let's dive into why this hybrid
14:09gets a spot on our list first off the
14:12alien bet is a bit of a mystery and it's
14:14no wonder people get it mixed up with
14:15wild betas they've got that iridescent
14:18wild spooky look copper green blue and
14:22gray tones that make you feel like you
14:23got a piece of another galaxy right in
14:25your tank well let's get one thing
14:27straight alien betas aren't exactly
14:28watch they're hybrids created through
14:30selective breeding of wild beta species
14:33but not something you'd find naturally
14:34hanging out in the jungle stream no
14:36these guys are more like the
14:37Frankenstein of the beta World crafted
14:40for looks with a few quirks thrown in
14:42now they are flashy no doubt those
14:44iridescent scales are thick and they
14:46glimmer like a disco ball even when your
14:48tank lights aren't on full blast but
14:50here's a catch that extra thickness and
14:52iridescence isn't something you'll see
14:54in your average wild beta wild betas
14:56tend to lose their shine when they're
14:57stressed out or not feeling their best
14:59but not the alien beta it keeps The

15:04well maybe not entirely see the alien
15:07beta has what I like to call pretty fish
15:09syndrome looks stunning but it can be a
15:11high maintenance fish prone to genetic
15:14defects deformities and honestly they're
15:16not the hardiest fish around they're
15:18showstoppers for sure but if you're new
15:20to the Hobby and you think you're
15:21getting a wild type beta with a strong
15:23immune system well you're in for a bit
15:25of a rude awakening so the alien beta
15:27scores a b tier
15:29it's got that alien alure it's gorgeous
15:32but unless you're ready to put in some
15:33effort it'll be more of a hassle than a
15:35highlight this Beauty's got a long
15:38flowing tail that drifts behind it like
15:40a wedding veil and it comes in more
15:42colors than a Fourth of July fireworks
15:44show we're talking about red blue yellow
15:46green you name it there's a veiled tail
15:48beta out there sporting it these little
15:50guys usually grow up to about 2 and 1/2
15:52in which means they're the perfect size
15:54for adding some serious flare to your
15:56tank without taking up too much space
15:58the these betas are known for being
16:00friendly and pretty curious mine's
16:02always wiggling around like it's trying
16:03to catch a better look at what I'm doing
16:05probably wondering if I've got more food
16:07and speaking of care the veil tail beta
16:09isn't a high maintenance guest they're
16:11Hardy healthy and can stick around for
16:13long term if you care for them right
16:15they need clean water in a good
16:17environment just like any other fish
16:19give them that and they'll reward you
16:20with beauty and charm that'll keep your
16:22tank looking topnotch for me the veil
16:25tail beta sits in a solid a tier
16:27beautiful absolutely a showstopper for
16:30sure it's also one of the cheapest and
16:32most common betas that you can find at
16:34your fish store while the full moon
16:36beta's got style for days it's still
16:38more Diva than Dynamo it's got all the
16:41aggression of a beta without much to
16:42show in terms of utility it'll flaunt
16:44those Tails try to establish dominance
16:47but at the end of the day it just
16:48doesn't have the strength or grit to
16:50back it up it don't even get me started
16:52on maintenance these double Tails need
16:54pristine water conditions and calm
16:56Waters to keep from tearing or getting
16:58infected so if you're not ready to play
17:00full-time caretaker this one might not
17:02be for you bottom line the full moon
17:04beta is like that flashy sports car you
17:06bought on a whim looks great it turns
17:09heads but it's high maintenance and it's
17:11definitely not always practical that's
17:14why it's chilling in the D tier one
17:16flashy and cool looking this is the beta
17:19the crown tail they're flashy they've
17:21got those long intricate rays that make
17:24them look like they're always ready for
17:26a ball but that crown comes at a cost
17:28those extended rays are pretty fragile
17:30and they can tear or catch on things in
17:32your tank like trying to keep a classic
17:34car on the road looks great when it's in
17:36good shape but it's a maintenance
17:37headache plus that fin structure doesn't
17:40help them swim all that well either
17:42making them slower than other beta types
17:44you know what happens when you're slow
17:45yeah you get stressed out a lot easier
17:47and that's not good for anybody now
17:49let's break down the varieties you've
17:50got your single Ray double ray triple
17:53Ray crossray and random Ray Crown tails
17:56the single Ray crowntail is the most
17:58common you'll find it at every pet store
18:00and it's what most people think of when
18:01they picture a crown tail it's kind of
18:03like the entry level model then there's
18:05the crossray also known as the king
18:07crown tail and I'll give it to you that
18:09one's got some serious style points
18:11especially the Black Venom variant but
18:14as you might know style only gets you so
18:16far when you're dealing with an
18:17aggressive fish that struggles to swim
18:19efficiently crowntails are like that
18:21beautiful and practical sports car they
18:23look amazing in the showroom but they
18:25need extra TLC to keep running well and
18:28let's not forget that they're 100% the
18:29product of selective breeding which
18:31makes them prone to health issues they
18:33require a bit more attention to water
18:34quality and tank decorations that won't
18:36tear those delicate fins for a beginner
18:38aquaris this can turn into a headache
18:41fast this is a c tier beta for me I love
18:43the way it looks however that extra care
18:45doesn't make this a good choice for a
