- 0:10My name is Eva Schllo. Uh I wrote my
- 0:14book Eva's story in 1986
- 0:17to tell about my story of survival and
- 0:21um what happened in the camp and even
- 0:25afterwards in the liberation
- 0:27um with the rush from the Russians.
- 0:30My father I did see a couple of times
- 0:34across the fence and things but my
- 0:37brother never anymore.
- 0:39What I haven't forget forgotten and
- 0:41forgiven is that I lost my father and my
- 0:44brother after the war when I came back I
- 0:47wanted to talk about it but people
- 0:49didn't didn't at that time did people
- 0:51didn't want to hear because it was
- 0:53horrible they saw images on news and um
- 0:58I think there was a guilt feeling around
- 1:01the world that they hadn't helped that
- 1:03nothing had been done you know those
- 1:06people who did all this no I don't want
- 1:09to forgive them. Nobody nearly made it.
- 1:11It was very very cold winter. You can't
- 1:14minus 30°. We had no shoes. Sometimes we
- 1:17had terrible frostbite on my feet. Open
- 1:20wounds which got infected. So in a few
- 1:23more days I would have lost my toes and
- 1:27my leg. I would have got gang green. I
- 1:30couldn't have made it. If the Russians
- 1:31wouldn't have come then and there I
- 1:33wouldn't have made it either. 4 months
- 1:35we were all the time traveling. We lived
- 1:38in cattle trucks. We lived like cattle
- 1:41really. But the Russians looked after
- 1:43us. They fed us. They closed us. And the
- 1:46Frank family lived in an apartment here.
- 1:49And we lived on this side. After school,
- 1:52all the children came out here to play
- 1:54because there were no gardens.
- 1:57So, and we were both 11 when we met. And
- 2:00that's how I met her playing there until
- 2:02the last
