  1. 0:00These here are not cavities. Well, they
  2. 0:02really are arrested or incipient
  3. 0:04cavities, stopped cavities. What do I
  4. 0:06mean? That it started as a cavity but
  5. 0:09the process stopped and now it's just
  6. 0:11on pause. Meaning, it is not affecting
  7. 0:13the tooth, it is not growing, it can
  8. 0:15stay stopped for life without
  9. 0:16increasing. How do we tell them apart?
  10. 0:19Usually, arrested or stopped or
  11. 0:21incipient cavities are brownish or
  12. 0:23whitish and when we dentists analyze or
  13. 0:25check them, the tissue is usually very
  14. 0:28hard. With these cavities, what we
  15. 0:31usually do is monitor them to make sure
  16. 0:33they don't grow or start to become
  17. 0:35active again. Fluoride treatments can
  18. 0:38even be done to strengthen the enamel
  19. 0:39so they don't reactivate. When it is an
  20. 0:43actual cavity, what we see is a much
  21. 0:45darker tissue and usually, to the touch
  22. 0:47, it can even be a bit softer. That is
  23. 0:50when we must treat the cavity because
  24. 0:51it is in an active process and if not,
  25. 0:53it will continue to grow and affect
  26. 0:54even the inner tissue of the tooth. If
  27. 0:56you want to know more about dental
  28. 0:57health or have any questions, follow me
