  1. 0:01[Applause]
  2. 0:03Thank you.
  3. 0:06>> Yes. Will they let us talk or no?
  4. 0:10[Music]
  5. 0:10[Applause]
  6. 0:20>> So folks um I'm a film critic. U my job
  7. 0:24is to look at films not so much at box
  8. 0:26office. But this man doesn't give me a
  9. 0:28choice. Right. What a year you've had.
  10. 0:31What a year. Um 1,250
  11. 0:36crores box office for KGF2 global gross
  12. 0:40sales.
  13. 0:42Okay.
  14. 0:44Guys guys 54 crores only the Hindi
  15. 0:48version opening which is a record in
  16. 0:50Bollywood that has not been broken.
  17. 0:54>> Yes. You know you
  18. 0:59[Applause]
  19. 1:03Yeah, I'm I'm going to need some crowd
  20. 1:04control from you.
  21. 1:06>> Sorry,
  22. 1:06>> you're going to have to help with the
  23. 1:08crowd control.
  24. 1:11[Applause]
  25. 1:17[Music]
  26. 1:19you and that film have been instrumental
  27. 1:22in bringing audiences back to the
  28. 1:24theaters this year. Uh why do you think
  29. 1:28Rocky connected so strongly just across
  30. 1:32the world?
  31. 1:35>> See uh generally what happens is uh in a
  32. 1:40previous interview also I think we
  33. 1:42discussed about this. So the issues what
  34. 1:45uh masses have or they need some kind of
  35. 1:48inspiration. They need uh somebody to
  36. 1:51motivate them. So that may uh not come
  37. 1:55from books or uh from they may not
  38. 1:58attend some you know personality
  39. 2:00development course. Cinema is one such
  40. 2:02medium. I know it's about action,
  41. 2:05gangster, all of that, but deep down
  42. 2:07that's about one common manu who's got a
  43. 2:10lot of difficulties and nothing is uh
  44. 2:14easy or ideal situation for him. But he
  45. 2:16surpasses all the difficulties in style
  46. 2:19with conviction and he goes and he
  47. 2:22achieves it. That is something which
  48. 2:24everybody today wants to uh do or
  49. 2:27connect because we need to give them
  50. 2:28confidence. uh most of the people they
  51. 2:32are like crushed in the beginning you
  52. 2:33know the way society tells you that this
  53. 2:36is how if it comes to if I have to speak
  54. 2:40about my industry this is how our star
  55. 2:42should be this is how we should look
  56. 2:45this is what uh these are the type of
  57. 2:46clothes he should have so there is some
  58. 2:48set rules where society is unknowingly
  59. 2:51pushing it on youngsters or today's
  60. 2:54generation so they're confused including
  61. 2:58me I was confused so the moment The
  62. 2:59moment you realize it's all within you
  63. 3:02and if you decide nothing can stop you
  64. 3:04and everything will change you can
  65. 3:06change doesn't happen on its own you
  66. 3:09have to take actions so if they realize
  67. 3:12that then they will definitely get
  68. 3:15inspired Rocky did that to them and I
  69. 3:18think there is Rocky in everybody is
  70. 3:19what I feel
  71. 3:24>> you know um one of my favorite scenes in
  72. 3:28the film is is early on uh you get down
  73. 3:31from the helicopter, you put yourself at
  74. 3:33the head of the table where all the
  75. 3:35other bad guys have gathered, right? And
  76. 3:38then you drop that killer line about
  77. 3:39nepotism,
  78. 3:44which I just loved. And then you say,
  79. 3:47"I've got here on merit." Right? Rocky
  80. 3:50is saying, "I've got here on merit." And
  81. 3:52a little later in that scene, you say
  82. 3:54that you can't create another Rocky to
  83. 3:56kill me because there's one and only
  84. 3:58peace
  85. 4:00right
  86. 4:02now that that Yash is also you, right?
  87. 4:06You are here on merit.
  88. 4:08>> You are a single piece. I want to talk
  89. 4:11to you about this conviction. Okay?
  90. 4:13Because you you go back to it in your
  91. 4:16conversation a lot. What does conviction
  92. 4:18mean on a day-to-day basis? How do you
  93. 4:20have like what what do you do on a
  94. 4:23day-to-day basis? You wake up and do
  95. 4:25what to have that belief.
  96. 4:29>> I think um to answer your first portion
  97. 4:32when we put that nepotism that was not u
  98. 4:36there was no such development in the
  99. 4:38industry that was shot much before
  100. 4:41lockdown and all of that. So the idea
  101. 4:43was it's a burning issue. So it doesn't
  102. 4:47mean that people who have come from film
  103. 4:49background or film family. It's not
  104. 4:51against them. Nepotism according to me
  105. 4:54is not about um somebody some actor's
  106. 4:57son or some producer's son coming into
  107. 5:00industry. It's not about that. It's
  108. 5:01about them trying to put others down
  109. 5:05acting as if they are blueblad or they
  110. 5:08are royalty. That is wrong. So that's
  111. 5:11there in most of the fields. It's not
  112. 5:13just cinema but cinema it's visible and
  113. 5:16people talk about it criticize and it's
  114. 5:18like little uh vulnerable industry if
  115. 5:21not everywhere that is there but if as a
  116. 5:24country or as a society if we have to
  117. 5:27evolve or go to next level we should
  118. 5:30encourage talent we should encourage
  119. 5:34merit so the idea was even in gangsters
  120. 5:38even in underworld if you are talking
  121. 5:40about nepotism
  122. 5:42I that was a confusion when I just you
  123. 5:45know we were discussing I said this is
  124. 5:47the best time to tell him nepotism
  125. 5:51here also so everybody's like that isn't
  126. 5:53it too high a word will people
  127. 5:55understand
  128. 5:56I don't know then that became like a big
  129. 5:59thing everywhere everybody started
  130. 6:01discussing so then most of the people
  131. 6:04understood uh but the point is not to
  132. 6:07put anybody down from the industry it's
  133. 6:09to inspire any individual for me I from
  134. 6:13the beginning all I had is confidence
  135. 6:16and vision and when I look at people who
  136. 6:18are trying to intimidate you with power
  137. 6:21or with uh just the background if you do
  138. 6:26it good we respect you but at the same
  139. 6:29time because somebody has done it in
  140. 6:31your family or that we give you love we
  141. 6:33respect you when you mutually respect
  142. 6:37everybody that's fine in any industry
  143. 6:39but don't use it as a weapon to intimate
  144. 6:41ate others. So somebody like me, I think
  145. 6:44it's most of the people's issue and they
  146. 6:46they have it in them. Somebody like me
  147. 6:48if I represent then that's when the city
  148. 6:51comes
  149. 6:55and on a daily basis I think all of us
  150. 6:59go through that. I'm not somebody who's
  151. 7:01like 24 bar 7 confident or I'm not
  152. 7:03somebody but most of the time I am
  153. 7:06>> really
  154. 7:10because because I don't uh I don't think
  155. 7:12about what to lose or it's about you you
  156. 7:18be yourself and whole world will sense
  157. 7:20it if you try to act if you try to
  158. 7:22pretend or if you try to imprint someone
  159. 7:25that's when you lose respect if you be
  160. 7:27yourself and if you don't care about uh
  161. 7:31not with arrogance uh if you don't care
  162. 7:33about uh you know what others are
  163. 7:36thinking about you judging you then
  164. 7:38everybody will like you if you're real
  165. 7:39and if you have that conf and I think
  166. 7:41it's a constant process I get inspired
  167. 7:44by looking at a lot of other fellow
  168. 7:47actors or competition is something which
  169. 7:50I feel it is very important in the
  170. 7:52industry I always been telling about it
  171. 7:54it's not just about one indivision so I
  172. 7:57always tell KGF was not to intimidate.
  173. 8:00It is the vision of KJF was to inspire
  174. 8:04that I wanted everybody to believe that
  175. 8:07uh anybody can go out and achieve. It's
  176. 8:08not like we are not inferior or it's not
  177. 8:11like an impossible task. I always
  178. 8:13believe everybody comes to this world uh
  179. 8:16as a baby. I've never seen or come
  180. 8:18across any story where somebody's know
  181. 8:21come with all might and power. So they
  182. 8:24all develop it. So if they can even we
  183. 8:27can uh that's that's about it. You keep
  184. 8:30motivating yourself. Keep set a goal.
  185. 8:33That's what I believe. You set a goal
  186. 8:35and then take actions what it requires
  187. 8:38and what kind of people you have to
  188. 8:39associate and then just keep going.
  189. 8:42Don't care about rest of the things.
  190. 8:44Success and failure is like it's not
  191. 8:46trust me when I say this even after this
  192. 8:48success it's not uh success which gives
  193. 8:52us happiness. It's about the journey.
  194. 8:55When you see that when nobody else is
  195. 8:58even thinking of it or if they can't
  196. 9:00imagine but you are seeing it absolutely
  197. 9:03with such clarity that it's as if it's
  198. 9:05there waiting for you. That's the fun
  199. 9:07part. So set a high goal. Set a goal
  200. 9:13which which should look like there's a
  201. 9:15saying no if you tell your goal people
  202. 9:19should be scared. If not it is not a
  203. 9:22goal. No buying a house, having a buying
  204. 9:25a car or uh settling down, having a good
  205. 9:28family is not a goal. That's basic. We
  206. 9:32will end up set high goals. Then I think
  207. 9:35individually everybody can if everybody
  208. 9:37starts thinking like that many things
  209. 9:39can happen for this country because we
  210. 9:42just talk about our country was great
  211. 9:44back then, our civilization was like
  212. 9:46that. So I can go on and on about this
  213. 9:50topic because I love because that
  214. 9:52changed my life. Belief system changed
  215. 9:54my life.
  216. 9:55>> You know what intrigues me Yash is that
  217. 9:58after this massive blockbuster
  218. 10:02you didn't give 30 interviews. Okay. You
  219. 10:05didn't post uh creatives talking about
  220. 10:09box office here opening there. You in
  221. 10:12fact didn't give any interviews.
  222. 10:15you you just went quiet which is a very
  223. 10:18unique way to approach stardom. Why have
  224. 10:22you chosen this?
  225. 10:25>> I think um that's how an actor should be
  226. 10:29or a star should be because they all
  227. 10:34are the channel for the dream word. I'm
  228. 10:37like the bridge they need to pass
  229. 10:39through us when they see some actors or
  230. 10:42some uh stories they listen to stories
  231. 10:45through those characters through us they
  232. 10:47travel if it is too much about me and if
  233. 10:51they know everything about me I don't
  234. 10:53know where uh they will be able to
  235. 10:55relate to those characters so for me I
  236. 10:57think it's my job one second and I don't
  237. 11:00believe in going out and talking about
  238. 11:03you know this is saying no if you're a
  239. 11:06king. If you're telling you're a king,
  240. 11:09then you're not a king. So, anybody who
  241. 11:12has success,
  242. 11:16anybody who has success or doing really
  243. 11:19great in life, I don't think they have
  244. 11:22to go out and show that they're
  245. 11:24successful or doing it. People will know
  246. 11:25it. I I I know my audience or my fans,
  247. 11:29all of them are really smart. We are
  248. 11:31trying to cope up because they consume
  249. 11:34lot of content. and they understand the
  250. 11:35world better. So if I think I am smart
  251. 11:38and I'm trying to project something,
  252. 11:39they will read it. Okay, this guy is
  253. 11:41doing this because he wants to show he's
  254. 11:44bigger than that actor or this actor. So
  255. 11:46you better you better be real and they
  256. 11:50will sense it and they will tell the
  257. 11:52whole world. I think it's nice when it
  258. 11:54comes from people.
  259. 11:56>> How fabulous. Speaking of conquering,
  260. 12:00uh, what is the next big world
  261. 12:04domination plan?
  262. 12:12Remember I told you once I told you
  263. 12:15audience will tell me what to do next.
  264. 12:18>> You asked me what do you mean by
  265. 12:20audience or people will tell you. See if
  266. 12:23you listen to them, you will know.
  267. 12:26Hollywood.
  268. 12:28>> Hollywood,
  269. 12:29>> they're thinking Hollywood.
  270. 12:32>> No, when when when I say it's not about
  271. 12:35Hollywood, it's about trying to achieve
  272. 12:38things which always looked uh like only
  273. 12:42they can do or again same same thing.
  274. 12:46It's not that as a country also we have
  275. 12:48so many such inhibitions.
  276. 12:50you know we you know what the best CG
  277. 12:53company in the world or the one of the
  278. 12:56best who are doing good is an Indian uh
  279. 12:59I met him Namit so he's got so many
  280. 13:01Oscars so happy to see our people going
  281. 13:03and achieving those things and
  282. 13:05establishing and like that there are so
  283. 13:07many people there also who are uh
  284. 13:10working there and they have understood
  285. 13:12that market all of that but now it's
  286. 13:14time to see what we can do as an
  287. 13:17industry I think most of the people are
  288. 13:19looking towards that and uh as we have
  289. 13:22India on our side we can take that
  290. 13:24challenge because the kind of budgets we
  291. 13:27can put or the kind of support audience
  292. 13:30are giving and some people even say it's
  293. 13:33not about budget it's about content yes
  294. 13:35true but there are certain things to
  295. 13:37achieve certain kind of film you need
  296. 13:39that budget or you need that so we can
  297. 13:42take that kind of responsibility we'll
  298. 13:44try and there are so many people who
  299. 13:46might do that in our country but I think
  300. 13:49we all should take inspiration from each
  301. 13:51other and keep trying. That's it.
  302. 13:53>> But Yash, give us little more now. When
  303. 13:55will you announce?
  304. 13:57[Applause]
  305. 13:57[Music]
  306. 14:00>> No, I I'm not saying my next film will
  307. 14:03be Hollywood or that. You just ask me
  308. 14:05what's next. For me, my vision is let me
  309. 14:08go towards it. Let me work towards
  310. 14:10content. Let me work with people who are
  311. 14:13hungry and passionate.
  312. 14:15I don't want to work with people who are
  313. 14:16looking at my box office number and come
  314. 14:19and tell me that okay we'll do this film
  315. 14:21so we can no I want to work with people
  316. 14:24who say uh you know you have done this
  317. 14:28you you you can do this or can we try
  318. 14:31something else here or let us do this uh
  319. 14:34something you know very exciting that is
  320. 14:36where I'm looking at I think working on
  321. 14:38couple of things but the fact is I I've
  322. 14:41met couple of people their vision is
  323. 14:43good they have come come up with good
  324. 14:45scripts or I've also spent time with a
  325. 14:48couple of people working on scripts but
  326. 14:50somewhere I think all of it uh starts
  327. 14:53with are we aligned is the vision same
  328. 14:56because as an individual story that
  329. 14:58might be good may not work for what I
  330. 15:00want to achieve now or where I want to
  331. 15:03go and there are certain talented
  332. 15:04directors who I just worked with but I
  333. 15:07don't think their exposure or what they
  334. 15:09are thinking right now is not the same
  335. 15:11thing so we're just aligning and I think
  336. 15:14I have been looking for it. I don't want
  337. 15:16to talk much because um there is nothing
  338. 15:19left after that. Uh I anybody won't be
  339. 15:23excited if I come out and tell because
  340. 15:24they will have an idea. But I'm working.
  341. 15:27I'm not taking this success for granted.
  342. 15:2924 7 from morning to night.
  343. 15:34I just think of cinema. I just think of
  344. 15:38uh our people. I always believed
  345. 15:41whenever they have given me success, it
  346. 15:43is not because what I have done, it is
  347. 15:45because of what they see in me, what
  348. 15:49they want me to do. So, so I know what
  349. 15:53they are expecting out of me. At least
  350. 15:55I'll try doing it. That's all I can say.
  351. 15:58It's something very uh nice which I will
  352. 16:01enjoy. I don't know how they will feel
  353. 16:03it, but it's good. It's uh things are
  354. 16:05going well. But it will take time. In my
  355. 16:07head, there is no time for me. time is
  356. 16:09irrelevant as far as I'm waking up early
  357. 16:12in the morning, hitting the gym, doing
  358. 16:14all my actor duties plus 24/7
  359. 16:18uh you know I'm brainstorming of doing
  360. 16:21uh giving a better product giving a good
  361. 16:25film for them. How can things go wrong?
  362. 16:28I don't uh you know I'm not doing things
  363. 16:31which is irrelevant to my industry. I'm
  364. 16:32just trying to do what it takes to make
  365. 16:34a good film. So it should fall in place.
  366. 16:37It will looks like it is falling in
  367. 16:39place. That's all I can say.
  368. 16:41>> Lovely.
  369. 16:42We hope soon.
  370. 16:45>> Soon.
  371. 16:45>> Very soon. See, I I I
  372. 16:52No, no, no, no. The problem is I I know
  373. 16:56all of you are expecting on Janet that's
  374. 17:00my birthday.
  375. 17:03I I really want to but if it is
