- 0:24down with your family no phones no
- 0:26distractions just really talked you know
- 0:29those moments where you're fully present
- 0:31with each other wow Daniel that's a
- 0:33great question honestly it's been a long
- 0:37time life is so busy with work and other
- 0:40things I can't remember the last time I
- 0:42sat down with my family like that now
- 0:45that I think about it I miss those
- 0:47moments the moments when we were
- 0:49laughing talking and really connecting
- 0:52exactly it's those little moments that
- 0:55remind us why family is so important we
- 0:58get caught up in our busy lives but
- 1:00family is always there waiting for us to
- 1:03reconnect and that's what we're talking
- 1:05about today the importance of family and
- 1:08why it's so valuable to take time to be

- 1:47some great topics I'm excited to break
- 1:50down some of the key phrases we've used
- 1:51today so stick around for that at the
- 1:53end of the episode thanks Charlotte now
- 1:56Lucy let me ask you how do you think the
- 1:59way our family interact with us growing
- 2:01up shapes the way we form relationships
- 2:03with others later in life that's a great
- 2:06question Daniel I think our families
- 2:08teach us so much about how to relate to
- 2:11others I remember when I was younger my
- 2:13parents were always so supportive like
- 2:16every school play or event they were
- 2:19right there cheering me on and that kind
- 2:21of love really teaches you about how to
- 2:23build relationships with other people oh
- 2:26I can totally relate my dad was always
- 2:29like that too he would show up to every
- 2:31soccer game no matter how busy he was I
- 2:34think that's where I learned the
- 2:35importance of showing up for people if
- 2:38your family does that for you it sticks
- 2:40with you you learn how to care for
- 2:42others because they cared for you first
- 2:45yes that's what families do right they
- 2:48set the foundation for all our
- 2:50relationships whether it's our
- 2:52friendships the way we connect with
- 2:54colleagues or how we support our
- 2:56partners the way we trust and care for
- 2:59others starts with with what we learn
- 3:00from our family exactly and you know
- 3:03family isn't just there for the good
- 3:05times but they're also there during the
- 3:07hard ones I remember when I was going
- 3:10through a rough patch at work I didn't
- 3:12know who to turn to and then out of
- 3:14nowhere my sister came over with pizza
- 3:17sat on the couch with me and we just
- 3:19talked she didn't have to do that but
- 3:21it's moments like those that remind me
- 3:24how family always has your back oh wow
- 3:27that's amazing some sometimes it's those
- 3:30little things right like you don't have
- 3:32to say anything but just knowing
- 3:34someone's there means the
- 3:36world I had a similar experience when I
- 3:38was struggling with a big decision in my
- 3:41career my brother called me up and
- 3:43didn't give advice didn't try to solve
- 3:45my problems but he just
- 3:48listened and honestly that was enough it
- 3:52reminded me that no matter how tough
- 3:53things get your family is there to
- 3:55support you absolutely and you know what
- 3:59else they're also the ones who encourage
- 4:01us when we feel like giving up my dad
- 4:03always says if you don't believe in
- 4:05yourself at least know that I believe in
- 4:07you and it's funny because every time I
- 4:10hear that it pushes me to keep going
- 4:12even when I doubt myself yes that's
- 4:16beautiful I think we all need someone
- 4:18like that in our lives and most of the
- 4:21time it's family they're the ones who
- 4:24see us at our worst but still believe in
- 4:27our best that's why they's such a source
- 4:29of love and
- 4:31encouragement exactly and it's more than
- 4:34just support family gives you a sense of
- 4:37belonging no matter how far you travel
- 4:39or how long you're away you always know
- 4:42that you have a place to come back to
- 4:45it's like this is where I belong this is
- 4:47where I'm accepted no matter what yes I
- 4:51love that I remember when I moved out
- 4:54for the first time at first it was
- 4:57exciting to live on my own but after a
- 4:59few months I started missing home and it
- 5:03wasn't just the house or the place it
- 5:05was that feeling of being surrounded by
- 5:08people who know and love you for who you
- 5:10are that's what family gives you a sense
- 5:13of belonging exactly and that's so
- 5:16important because it's something you
- 5:18carry with you throughout life that
- 5:20sense of belonging really helps you
- 5:22build better relationships with other
- 5:24people whether it's friends co-workers
- 5:27or even your own future family it all
- 5:30starts with those connections at home so
- 5:33true I feel like growing up in a close
- 5:36family teaches you so much about trust
- 5:38respect and how to care for others you
- 5:41kind of carry those lessons into all
- 5:43your
- 5:44relationships yes and I think that's why
- 5:46people who grow up in strong family
- 5:48environments usually have healthier
- 5:50relationships it's because they've
- 5:52learned from a young age how to handle
- 5:54emotions how to communicate and how to
- 5:56be there for others exactly it's like we
- 6:00learn all these important life skills
- 6:02without even realizing it and that's why
- 6:04family is so important not just for us
- 6:07as individuals but for society as a
- 6:10whole when families are strong and
- 6:12supportive they create a ripple effect
- 6:15that spreads throughout the community
- 6:17absolutely family teaches us how to love
- 6:20how to support and how to be kind and
- 6:22when we take those lessons into the
- 6:24world it makes everything better you
- 6:27know Daniel one thing that always
- 6:28surprises me is how much family impacts
- 6:30our mental health I mean just spending a
- 6:33day with my family makes me feel so much
- 6:35better it's like a reset button for the
- 6:38soul oh for sure it's like free therapy
- 6:41right I remember a few months ago I was
- 6:44super stressed with work and I hadn't
- 6:45seen my family in weeks then we had a
- 6:48family Barbecue one weekend and just
- 6:51being around them laughing talking it
- 6:53was like all my stress melted away
- 6:57exactly it's amazing how just being with
- 6:59family can lift your mood I mean you can
- 7:02go from feeling totally drained to
- 7:04feeling like you can take on the world
- 7:06again it's true and I've read that
- 7:09spending quality time with family isn't
- 7:11just good for your mental health it can
- 7:13even help kids do better in school my
- 7:15niece for example struggled with math
- 7:18but after spending more time with my
- 7:19sister just going over her homework
- 7:21together her grades improved so much
- 7:24sometimes all you need is a little
- 7:26family support oh that's such a good
- 7:29point
- 7:30family really does play a big role in
- 7:31our success doesn't it I remember when I
- 7:34was younger my mom used to sit with me
- 7:36while I did my homework it wasn't that
- 7:38she was helping me directly but just
- 7:41knowing she was there made me focus more
- 7:44and I guess that made a huge difference
- 7:46yeah and it's not just about schoolwork
- 7:49families teach us some of the most
- 7:50important life lessons too my dad always
- 7:53taught me the value of hard work and
- 7:55kindness he used to say if you want
- 7:58something work for it but never forget
- 8:00to help others along the way and that
- 8:02stuck with me that's beautiful I think
- 8:06those lessons shape who we are for me my
- 8:09grandma was a huge influence she taught
- 8:12me patience I remember baking with her
- 8:16and I'd always be in a rush but she'd
- 8:18remind me to slow down and enjoy the
- 8:21process it's funny how those little
- 8:23things stay with you oh definitely my
- 8:26grandpa was the same he used to say the
- 8:29most important things in life aren't
- 8:32things that always hit me hard it's
- 8:34those values like kindness respect and
- 8:37empathy that we carry with us throughout
- 8:39our lives and you know families are the
- 8:41first place we learn them
- 8:44exactly and those values are what shape
- 8:47Society right Healthy Families create
- 8:50Healthy Communities if people grow up in
- 8:53loving supportive environments they're
- 8:55more likely to spread that love and
- 8:57support to others right it's like a
- 8:59chain reaction when families are strong
- 9:02the whole society benefits you know I
- 9:05look at some of my friends who didn't
- 9:07have that kind of support growing up and
- 9:09it makes such a difference that's why
- 9:11it's so important to appreciate the
- 9:13family you have and to be there for each
- 9:15other
- 9:16absolutely and it's not about having a
- 9:19perfect family because let's be real no
- 9:22family is perfect but it's about being
- 9:25there for each other through the ups and
- 9:27downs that's what makes families so
- 9:30special exactly it's the little moments
- 9:34the memories the laughter all those
- 9:36things build stronger bonds and create
- 9:38that sense of belonging we talked about
- 9:40earlier and at the end of the day that's
- 9:43what it's all about family gives us the
- 9:46love and support we need to face life's
- 9:49challenges they teach us they shape us
- 9:53and they help us grow into the best
- 9:55versions of
- 9:56ourselves yes so listeners whether it's
- 9:59giving your parents a call spending time
- 10:01with your siblings or just sitting down
- 10:03for a family meal remember to appreciate
- 10:06those moments Family is everything
- 10:09exactly cherish the time you have with
- 10:11them and if you haven't reached out to
- 10:13your family in a while maybe today's a
- 10:16good day to start yep that's your
- 10:18challenge for the day go call or visit
- 10:21someone in your family tell them you
