  24. 0:54confident you know Jennifer when I first
  25. 0:56started learning English I remember
  26. 0:58trying to have conversations
  27. 1:00but I was constantly translating from my
  28. 1:02native language it felt like I had to
  29. 1:05pause every few seconds just to figure
  30. 1:07out what I wanted to say have you ever
  31. 1:09experienced that oh absolutely I think
  32. 1:13we've all been there at some point for
  33. 1:15me it was especially difficult in
  34. 1:17situations where I had to think fast
  35. 1:19like ordering food or chatting with
  36. 1:21someone casually I'd get stuck and by
  37. 1:24the time I translated what I wanted to
  38. 1:26say the conversation had already moved
  39. 1:29on yeah it's like trying to catch up to
  40. 1:31a train that's already left the station
  41. 1:34right it's all part of the learning
  42. 1:36process and that's why thinking in
  43. 1:38English is such a powerful skill it

  57. 2:11because we'll be joined by our
  58. 2:12vocabulary expert Charlotte she'll help
  59. 2:15break down some of the key words and
  60. 2:17phrases we've used today great so let's
  61. 2:20kick off with our first tip on how to
  62. 2:21think in English labeling objects around
  63. 2:24you ah yes this one brings back memories
  64. 2:27when I first started learning English my
  65. 2:29apartment was covered in sticky notes my
  66. 2:31friends thought I was turning the place
  67. 2:33into an art project I can totally relate
  68. 2:37I did the same thing I remember putting
  69. 2:39a label on my mirror that said mirror
  70. 2:41and every morning I'd see it while
  71. 2:43getting ready exactly and it's funny how
  72. 2:46quickly it works after a while every
  73. 2:49time I picked up my cup or opened the
  74. 2:51refrigerator the English words just
  75. 2:53popped into my head automatically you
  76. 2:56know what's great about this method is
  77. 2:58that it turns your environment into into
  78. 3:00a constant learning space it's like
  79. 3:02passive studying you learn without even
  80. 3:04realizing it right and it helps break
  81. 3:07the habit of translating from your
  82. 3:09native language because you're directly
  83. 3:11associating the English word with the
  84. 3:13object so the bottom line is labeling
  85. 3:16objects helps you think in English by
  86. 3:18making the language a natural part of
  87. 3:20your daily life well said Jennifer it's
  88. 3:23all about creating those connections in
  89. 3:25your brain over time you'll find
  90. 3:27yourself thinking of the English word
  91. 3:29first uh-huh and that's a big step
  92. 3:31toward fluency so to all our listeners
  93. 3:34give it a try and let us know how it
  94. 3:36goes absolutely you know speaking of
  95. 3:39making English a natural part of daily
  96. 3:41life it reminds me of another tip that's
  97. 3:43been really helpful oh are you thinking
  98. 3:45about using simple sentences in your
  99. 3:47thoughts exactly when I started forcing
  100. 3:50myself to think in English I realized I
  101. 3:53didn't have to construct perfect
  102. 3:54sentences just simple straightforward
  103. 3:57thoughts yes I used to over complicate
  104. 4:00things by trying to think in complex
  105. 4:01sentences which made it harder and more
  106. 4:03frustrating same here then I began
  107. 4:06thinking in simple phrases like I am
  108. 4:08hungry it's sunny today or I need to buy
  109. 4:11milk it made the process so much easier
  110. 4:14and the best part is as you get
  111. 4:16comfortable with simple sentences you
  112. 4:18naturally start forming more complex
  113. 4:20ones without even trying absolutely it's
  114. 4:23like building blocks you start small and
  115. 4:25over time you build up your language
  116. 4:27skills I remember waiting for the the
  117. 4:29bus and thinking to myself bus is late
  118. 4:33or I see a red car it felt a bit basic
  119. 4:37but it kept my mind engaged in English I
  120. 4:39did that too even narrating mundane
  121. 4:42tasks like I wash dishes or I read book
  122. 4:44helped reinforce my thinking in English
  123. 4:47and the beauty of this method is that
  124. 4:48you can do it anywhere anytime no
  125. 4:51special tools needed just your mind
  126. 4:53exactly it's a simple habit that can
  127. 4:55make a big difference over time so to
  128. 4:58our listeners try and incorporating
  129. 5:00simple English sentences into your
  130. 5:02thoughts throughout the day don't worry
  131. 5:04about grammar or Perfection just keep it
  132. 5:06simple and remember the goal is to train
  133. 5:09your brain to think directly in English
  134. 5:12which will boost your fluency and
  135. 5:14confidence we'd love to hear how this
  136. 5:16technique works for you share your
  137. 5:18experiences in the comments definitely
  138. 5:21now building on that another tip that
  139. 5:23really helped me was to talk to yourself
  140. 5:24in English oh yes selft talk can be
  141. 5:27surprisingly effective did you ever
  142. 5:30catch yourself having full conversations
  143. 5:32alone all the time I remember cooking
  144. 5:34dinner and narrating every step now I
  145. 5:37chop the onions I need to boil the water
  146. 5:39it felt a bit silly at first but it made
  147. 5:41a big difference I did the same when I
  148. 5:43was driving I'd comment on everything
  149. 5:46the traffic is heavy today that car is
  150. 5:49moving fast it kept my mind engaged and
  151. 5:52helped me think on my feet exactly it's
  152. 5:55like giving yourself a constant practice
  153. 5:57session plus since you're alone there's
  154. 5:59no no pressure or fear of making
  155. 6:01mistakes and over time it becomes second
  156. 6:04nature you start thinking in English
  157. 6:06without even trying right and it's not
  158. 6:09just about narrating actions sometimes
  159. 6:11I'd even practice conversations I might
  160. 6:14have in the future oh like rehearsing
  161. 6:16for a meeting or a social event yes I'd
  162. 6:19imagine someone asking me questions and
  163. 6:21think about how I'd respond in English
  164. 6:24that's a great strategy It prepares you
  165. 6:26for real life situations and boosts your
  166. 6:29confidence
  167. 6:30for our listeners don't worry if it
  168. 6:31feels awkward at first the more you do
  169. 6:34it the more natural it becomes
  170. 6:37absolutely so give it a try start
  171. 6:39talking to yourself in English and see
  172. 6:41how it helps you think in the language
  173. 6:43and as always we'd love to hear about
  174. 6:45your experiences feel free to share in
  175. 6:48the comments speaking of immersing
  176. 6:50ourselves in English another simple yet
  177. 6:52powerful tip is to change the settings
  178. 6:54of one of your devices or applications
  179. 6:57to English oh yes I remember switching
  180. 7:00my phone's language to English it was a
  181. 7:02bit challenging at first but it forced
  182. 7:04me to navigate in English daily same
  183. 7:07here I changed the language on my social
  184. 7:09media apps it was interesting to see
  185. 7:12everything in English it felt like a
  186. 7:13mini immersion it's a great way to
  187. 7:15surround yourself with the language you
  188. 7:17get used to seeing and reading English
  189. 7:20regularly plus you pick up new
  190. 7:22vocabulary along the way I learned a lot
  191. 7:24of tech related terms this way exactly

  195. 7:35don't have to switch everything at once
  196. 7:37start with one device or app and see how
  197. 7:39it goes good point it should be a
  198. 7:41comfortable challenge not

  207. 8:02whenever I was in a situation I'd try to
  208. 8:04describe it in English in my mind me too
  209. 8:07if I was at a cafe I'd think I am
  210. 8:10ordering a coffee or the Barista is
  211. 8:12friendly it helped me process my
  212. 8:14surroundings in English it's like
  213. 8:17creating a mental dialogue you engage
  214. 8:20with the environment and practice at the
  215. 8:21same time exactly and it doesn't have to
  216. 8:24be limited to current situations you can
  217. 8:27imagine future scenarios or recall past
  218. 8:29events in English that's a great point I
  219. 8:33used to replay conversations in my head
  220. 8:35thinking about what I could have said in
  221. 8:37English it's a form of mental rehearsal
  222. 8:39which is really beneficial for language
