- 0:47today's episode great we have a
- 0:49conversation between Michael and Julia
- 0:51about their shopping experiences
- 0:53shopping is something we all do so this
- 0:55should be really relatable and useful
- 0:57for our listeners uh-huh but before we
- 1:00listen let's look at some vocabulary
- 1:02from the dialogue in vocabulary
- 1:05highlight vocabulary
- 1:08highlight so two words today the first
- 1:11one is frustrating frustrating
- 1:14frustrating frustrating this means
- 1:17making you feel annoyed and upset right
- 1:19for example it was frustrating to wait
- 1:21in a long line perfect you know once I
- 1:24was trying to assemble some furniture
- 1:26from a well-known store and I lost one
- 1:29tiny screw
- 1:30it was so frustrating oh no I've been
- 1:33there I once tried to bake a cake but I
- 1:35kept forgetting ingredients by the time
- 1:37I finished it was a complete disaster
- 1:40talk about frustrating that does sound
- 1:42frustrating the next word is nightmare
- 1:45nightmare nightmare nightmare this means
- 1:48a very bad experience exactly like the
- 1:52traffic was a nightmare today oh I
- 1:54remember once I missed my flight because
- 1:56of traffic it was a total nightmare I
- 1:59had to spend the night at the airport
- 2:01that's rough I had a nightmare
- 2:03experience at a theme park I got stuck
- 2:05on a roller coaster for an hour it was
- 2:07fun at first but then it turned into a
- 2:08real nightmare oh no that's terrible so
- 2:11now we're ready to listen to our
- 2:13dialogue for the first time as always it
- 2:15will be at a normal speed but don't
- 2:17worry about it exactly because we'll
- 2:19come back and explain all the key
- 2:21language now let's listen as two friends
- 2:23discuss their shopping experiences
- 2:27[Music]
- 2:33hey Julia what's up hey Michael I just
- 2:36had the most frustrating shopping
- 2:38experience ever oh no what happened I
- 2:41went to the mall to buy a dress for my
- 2:43cousin's wedding I thought it would be
- 2:45quick but it turned into a nightmare
- 2:48really how come first the store was
- 2:51packed with people I had to wait in line
- 2:53for ages just to try on the dress I
- 2:55liked H I hate when that happens did you
- 2:58finally get to try it on yes but then
- 3:01the dress didn't fit right the size was
- 3:03all wrong and they didn't have any other
- 3:05sizes left in stock that's so annoying
- 3:09why didn't you just shop online I
- 3:11thought about it but I wanted to see the
- 3:13dress in person you know sometimes
- 3:15things look so different online true but
- 3:18online shopping is so convenient you can
- 3:21browse and buy without leaving your
- 3:22couch I know and that's what I ended up
- 3:25doing after I left the mall I went home
- 3:28and found the same dress online it was
- 3:30even on sale see that's the beauty of
- 3:33online shopping plus you don't have to
- 3:36deal with crowds or long lines exactly
- 3:39but now I'm worried about returning it
- 3:41if it doesn't fit returning online
- 3:43purchases can be such a hassle yeah that
- 3:46can be tricky but many stores have made
- 3:49returns easier nowadays some even offer
- 3:52free return shipping I hope so I just
- 3:55want to get this dress sorted out
- 3:56without more drama I'm sure it'll work
- 3:59out as at least you have options by the
- 4:01way did you find any other good deals
- 4:03online Yes actually I found a pair of
- 4:07shoes that match the dress perfectly and
- 4:10they were 20% off nice sounds like it
- 4:13all worked out in the end maybe next
- 4:14time you should start with online
- 4:16shopping definitely I've learned my
- 4:18lesson but sometimes you just can't beat
- 4:21seeing things in person you know for
- 4:23sure there's something special about the
- 4:25inore experience but for now I'm
- 4:28sticking with online shopping it's just
- 4:30so much easier agreed it's all about
- 4:33finding a balance some days you want the
- 4:35convenience of online and other days you
- 4:37want the fun of inor shopping exactly so
- 4:41when's the wedding next weekend
- 4:43hopefully everything arrives on time
- 4:46fingers crossed good luck Julia thanks
- 4:49Michael talk to you
- 4:53later you know Daniel one thing that
- 4:56stood out in the conversation was how
- 4:57Julia's shopping trip turned into a
- 4:59complete disaster absolutely I could
- 5:02feel her stress it's a situation we can
- 5:04all relate to definitely now let's dive
- 5:07into some of the difficult words they
- 5:09used in the conversation and break them
- 5:13down language
- 5:15Explorer great idea the first word on
- 5:18our language Explorer today is
- 5:20convenient convenient convenient
- 5:23convenient it means easy to use or
- 5:26fitting well with a person's needs
- 5:27activities and plans right for example
- 5:30online shopping is so convenient because
- 5:32you can do it from home let's look at a
- 5:35few more examples to help clarify the
- 5:37meaning of
- 5:38convenient example one it's convenient
- 5:41to have a grocery store nearby example
- 5:44two the new app makes it convenient to
- 5:47track your Fitness progress example
- 5:50three having a microwave is very
- 5:52convenient for quick meals so when
- 5:54something is convenient it makes your
- 5:56life easier exactly now our second word
- 5:59today is hassle hassle hassle hassle it
- 6:04means something that is inconvenient or
- 6:06annoying like returning online purchases
- 6:09can be such a hassle exactly let's
- 6:12listen to some more examples of hassle
- 6:15example one it was a hassle to get my
- 6:17car repaired example two dealing with
- 6:21customer service can sometimes be a
- 6:23hassle example three it's a hassle to
- 6:26carry groceries up three flights of
- 6:27stairs so when something is a hassle
- 6:30it's inconvenient and bothersome that's
- 6:33right the next word is Tricky Tricky
- 6:37Tricky Tricky it means difficult to deal
- 6:40with or do for example some math
- 6:43problems can be really tricky let's have
- 6:45a look at a few more examples of tricky
- 6:48example one navigating through the city
- 6:51without a map can be tricky example two
- 6:54the instructions were tricky to follow
- 6:57example three hand handling multiple
- 7:00tasks at once can be tricky so when
- 7:02something is tricky it's challenging and
- 7:05not straightforward exactly the next
- 7:08word is sorted sorted sorted sorted it
- 7:12means to resolve or fix a problem like I
- 7:15just want to get this dress issue sorted
- 7:18here are some more examples to help you
- 7:20understand sorted example one it took me
- 7:23a while to get my schedule sorted
- 7:26example two I need to get my finances
- 7:28sorted before before I can go on
- 7:30vacation example three the tech team
- 7:33sorted the website issues quickly so if
- 7:36something is sorted it's resolved or
- 7:38organized uh that's right the last word
- 7:41is drama drama drama drama it means a
- 7:45situation or series of events involving
- 7:48conflict or difficulty example one there
- 7:50was a lot of drama at the office today
- 7:53like I just want to get this dress
- 7:55sorted out without more drama let's have
- 7:57a look at a few more examples of drama
- 8:00example one there was a lot of drama at
- 8:03the office today example two high school
- 8:06is often full of drama example three I
- 8:09prefer a quiet life without much drama
- 8:12so when there is drama there is usually
- 8:14some conflict or difficulty involved
- 8:17great job Jennifer these are all useful
- 8:19words for everyday conversation
- 8:21absolutely now let's listen to the
- 8:23dialogue again this time a little slower
- 8:26so you can catch all the details and
- 8:28understand how these words are used in
- 8:30context after that we'll move on to our
- 8:32fluency Focus segment where we'll break
- 8:34down some key phrases and idioms from
- 8:36the conversation and show you how to use
- 8:38them in context stay tuned and don't go
- 8:42[Music]
- 8:48anywhere hey Julia what's up hey Michael

- 8:54experience ever oh no what happened I

- 9:09packed with people I had to wait in line
- 9:11for ages just to try on the dress I
- 9:13liked H I hate when that happens did you
- 9:17finally get to try it on yes but then
- 9:20the dress didn't fit right the size was
- 9:22all wrong and they didn't have any other
- 9:25sizes left in stock that's so annoying
- 9:29why did you just shop online I thought
- 9:31about it but I wanted to see the dress
- 9:33in person you know sometimes things look
- 9:37so different online true but online
- 9:40shopping is so convenient you can browse
- 9:42and buy without leaving your couch I
- 9:45know and that's what I ended up doing
- 9:48after I left the mall I went home and
- 9:50found the same dress online it was even
- 9:53on sale see that's the beauty of online
- 9:56shopping plus you don't have to deal
- 9:59with crowds or long lines exactly but
- 10:03now I'm worried about returning it if it
- 10:05doesn't fit returning online purchases
- 10:08can be such a hassle yeah that can be
- 10:11tricky but many stores have made returns
- 10:14easier nowadays some even offer free
- 10:17return shipping I hope so I just want to
- 10:20get this dress sorted out without more
- 10:22drama I'm sure it'll work out at least
- 10:25you have options by the way did you find
- 10:28any other good deals online Yes actually
- 10:32I found a pair of shoes that match the
- 10:34dress perfectly and they were 20% off
- 10:38nice sounds like it all worked out in
- 10:40the end maybe next time you should start
- 10:43with online shopping definitely I've
- 10:46learned my lesson but sometimes you just
- 10:49can't beat seeing things in person you
- 10:51know for sure there's something special
- 10:54about the inore experience but for now
- 10:56I'm sticking with online shopping it's
- 10:59just so much easier agreed it's all
- 11:02about finding a balance some days you
- 11:04want the convenience of online and other
- 11:07days you want the fun of inore shopping
- 11:10exactly so when's the wedding next
- 11:13weekend hopefully everything arrives on
- 11:16time fingers crossed good luck Julia
- 11:19thanks Michael talk to you
- 11:24later all right so if you noticed a lot
- 11:26of useful phrases came up in the
- 11:28conversation let's take a look at our
- 11:30fluency Focus
- 11:32segment fluency Focus today we have a
- 11:36few phrases that will help us express
