- 0:01taxis in London are a popular icon
- 0:04they're called cabs the driver is called
- 0:07a cabbie or cab driver and they're
- 0:09usually black when you see a cab put out
- 0:12your arm to stop the driver tell him or
- 0:15her where you want to go and sit and
- 0:18relax remember to give the cabbie a
- 0:20small tip when you pay the cycling
- 0:24around London is healthy but a bit
- 0:27dangerous traditional red double-decker
- 0:30buses give you a good view of the city
- 0:33but they can be a bit slow in the
- 0:35morning or evening traffic you pay the
- 0:38driver when you get on or you can use
- 0:40your day or weekly travel car there's
- 0:44always an underground or tube station
- 0:46nearby in London and it's the quickest
- 0:48way to get around the only problem is
- 0:51it's always full of people buy your
- 0:54ticket at the ticket office and then
- 0:56check there are no problems with your
- 0:58line there sometimes closed for works or
- 1:01problems finding your way around is easy
- 1:05with the underground map there are 12
- 1:08lines and each line has a different
- 1:10color the Circle Line is yellow for
- 1:12example and the District Line green the
- 1:16tube in London's expensive if you don't
- 1:18pay with an oyster card for example
- 1:21children under 16 pay just 1 pound all
- 1:24day you have to insert your ticket into
- 1:27the machine or touch the Oyster card on
- 1:30the pad make sure you get the right
- 1:33ticket it can be expensive if not the
- 1:37escalators save you walking up and down
- 1:39the stairs in some stations there are
- 1:42lives but these get very crowded at busy
- 1:45times
- 1:45remember to stand on the right as people
- 1:48walking down on the left are probably in
- 1:51a hurry and will get annoyed if you
- 1:53don't as you can see the platform curves
- 1:56but the trains are straight this creates
- 1:59a space that people could fall into so a
- 2:02recorded voice says mind the gap over
- 2:04and over in case you forget it's also
- 2:09written on the platform be careful of
- 2:12the closing doors
- 2:17you can get a seat if you're lucky but
- 2:20be prepared to stand up in the morning
- 2:22and evening rush hours the tube is very
- 2:25popular among London's listen for the
- 2:28announcements on the train they'll tell
- 2:31you the name of the next station and any
- 2:33connections available
