- 0:08can you give us an example of some of
- 0:10the more difficult interviews you've
- 0:12been involved in
- 0:13i've been in interviews where candidates
- 0:16haven't been prepared and have not been
- 0:19able to from the start answer some of
- 0:21the questions
- 0:23one particular situation was when a
- 0:25candidate actually thought they were
- 0:26being interviewed for something
- 0:27completely different
- 0:29um so again you have to actually think
- 0:30how do you deal with that situation do
- 0:32you stop the interview or do you carry
- 0:33on anything else that has surprised you
- 0:35during an interview
- 0:39there was another situation where
- 0:41a candidate actually produced food
- 0:42during the interview in the middle of
- 0:44answering a question they stopped and
- 0:46rummaged in their bag to pull out a
- 0:48kitkat
- 0:50which took both myself and the
- 0:52interviewing manager by surprise we
- 0:54did ask an inquiries to what she was
- 0:57doing at which point she actually
- 0:59advised that she was a diabetic
- 1:01and just felt at that particular moment
- 1:03that she just needed a little
- 1:05something to eat to to calm things which
- 1:08was absolutely fine but again during the
- 1:09interview when she hadn't announced
- 1:10that's why she was doing it it was a bit
- 1:12of a surprise
- 1:14well not completely different how
- 1:15important is the way a candidate dresses
- 1:17for an interview
- 1:20a candidate's dress for interview is
- 1:22important because it shows how serious
- 1:24they take the situation
- 1:27however i would always recommend that
- 1:29candidates would come to interview
- 1:32in a dress that is appropriate for the
- 1:34role they're applying for
- 1:37in today's modern
- 1:39recruitment environment it's not always
- 1:41necessary for
- 1:43a guy to wear a suit to an interview
- 1:46however you would expect to see a shirt
- 1:48you would expect to see a blazer you
- 1:50would expect expect to see appropriate
- 1:52footwear and the same for a lady as well
- 1:57certain clothes certain types of
- 1:59footwear would be inappropriate to come
- 2:02into an interview and may set a
- 2:03perception of that candidate which is
- 2:06perhaps
- 2:06incorrect
- 2:08have you ever had an interview with
- 2:10someone who was dressed very
- 2:11inappropriately
- 2:12i had an interview on one occasion where
- 2:15a candidate actually arrived in tennis
- 2:17gear a white t-shirt and shorts they'd
- 2:20literally come straight from the tennis
- 2:21court
- 2:22and they had simply forgotten the
- 2:23interview was on that day
- 2:26had suddenly had the reminder that
- 2:28actually they were due to be the
- 2:29interview so i thought they would come
- 2:30anyway as they were
- 2:32i did see the candidate and they were
- 2:34actually very impressive we just had to
- 2:36move past the
- 2:38the clothing aspect but actually it was
- 2:40quite funny and allowed a real
- 2:42opportunity to engage with that
- 2:43particular candidate from the start
- 2:45did that person get the job no
- 2:49they didn't
