  2. 0:10what's the first thing you're looking
  3. 0:11for in a candidate for a job
  4. 0:14the first thing you're looking for with
  5. 0:16a job candidate is enthusiasm for the
  6. 0:18role
  7. 0:18you're also looking for them to
  8. 0:20demonstrate experience
  9. 0:23relevant to the position
  10. 0:25how do you get candidates to relax in
  11. 0:27the interview
  12. 0:28it's important to engage with the
  13. 0:30candidates straight away
  14. 0:32so when you collect them from reception
  15. 0:34or from the front of the building
  16. 0:36whatever it may be
  17. 0:37you want to kind of greet them in a
  18. 0:38friendly manner you want to ask them
  19. 0:40some general questions just talking
  20. 0:42about their journey into the interview
  21. 0:44or
  22. 0:46the weather or have they been to the
  23. 0:47city before
  24. 0:49and during the interview
  25. 0:51during an interview once it has
  26. 0:52commenced i will always try to start the
  27. 0:55interview with some general questions
  28. 0:57just to allow the candidate to talk
  29. 0:58about themselves to talk about their cv
  30. 1:01their background
  31. 1:03and often when a candidate is talking
  32. 1:05about something they know which is
  33. 1:06themselves and what they've been doing
  34. 1:08they're able to settle down much more
  35. 1:10quickly and
  36. 1:12have an element of confidence around
  37. 1:14what they're talking
  38. 1:16is it important for candidates to ask
  39. 1:18the interviewer questions and if so what
  40. 1:21kind of questions should candidates ask
  41. 1:23which i was applying for questions can
  42. 1:25be related to anything so i personally
  43. 1:27would encourage candidates to ask
  44. 1:29questions related to any aspect of
  45. 1:31employment and most recruiters would
  46. 1:33welcome that sort of interaction as an
  47. 1:35opportunity to actually give a little
  48. 1:36bit more information about the company
  49. 1:42is it okay for candidates to ask about
  50. 1:44the money or the salary at the interview
  51. 1:47of course and candidates should be
  52. 1:50honest and realistic about their
  53. 1:51expectations too
  54. 1:53an interview is an appropriate
  55. 1:54environment to ask such a question
  56. 1:56especially if salary or
  57. 1:59salary banding was not identified in the
  58. 2:01job advert
  59. 2:04how important are cvs and covering
  60. 2:06letters
  61. 2:09cvs are very important to a recruiter
  62. 2:11because it actually provides an overview
  63. 2:14of a candidate's background their
  64. 2:15employment
  65. 2:17what they've been doing to date
  66. 2:19but a cover letter can actually be more
  67. 2:21important because that's where a
  68. 2:23candidate will actually list and
  69. 2:26identify how they meet the criteria for
  70. 2:28the post so it allows a candidate to be
  71. 2:30very specific about demonstrating what
  72. 2:33skills and experience they have that
  73. 2:34would be relevant and often that skill
  74. 2:36and experience may be missed on a cv
  75. 2:38when you're looking at a wider career
  76. 2:40history
  77. 2:41what's the worst thing a job candidate
  78. 2:43can do when they're applying for a job
  79. 2:46first thing is obviously make mistakes
  80. 2:47on their application
  81. 2:49that's always viewed negatively
  82. 2:52depending on the role they're applying
  83. 2:53for
  84. 2:55also coming to an interview late coming
  85. 2:57to an interview unprepared
