- 0:00If someone is stuck in their head, call
- 0:02it the analytical mind, thinking,
- 0:03criticizing, judging, assessing, you
- 0:06know, worrying. I guess they're
- 0:07analytical about a situation, right and
- 0:09wrong. What is that doing to their body
- 0:12if their mind is always analytical?
- 0:15>> Yeah. I don't think there's anything
- 0:16wrong with the analytical mind. I really
- 0:18love my analytical mind. I think you do
- 0:20too because what the analytical mind is
- 0:22for is to weigh known against unknowns.
- 0:24>> Strategizing.
- 0:25>> Yeah. To kind of just go, okay, I know
- 0:26this. I want this. How am I going to go
- 0:28from wanting this to having this? Right?
- 0:31And the analytical mind tries
- 0:32possibilities. Yeah. Tries to figure
- 0:33things out. And I think it's good. It
- 0:34helps us to navigate in our world.
- 0:36Right.
- 0:36>> When does the analytical mind get in our
- 0:38way?
- 0:38>> Yeah, that's a great question. So when
- 0:40you get stressed out, when you get
- 0:42anxious, when you get fearful, when you
- 0:43get angry, when you get agitated, when
- 0:44you get frustrated, when you feel pain,
- 0:46suffering, guilt, those kind of limited
- 0:48emotions start to drive the analytical
- 0:50mind to overanalyze
- 0:53>> and to overthink. And what we've
- 0:54discovered when we analyze our life
- 0:58within some disturbing emotion, we make
- 1:01our brains worse
- 1:02>> because because the emotion is a record
- 1:05of the past. So you're thinking in the
- 1:07past, you're thinking in the box.
- 1:08There's no solution there. So every time
- 1:10you start thinking, overanalyzing,
- 1:12you're producing the chemistry to arouse
- 1:14your brain and body even more. And now
- 1:16you're in a loop, right? And that's kind
- 1:17of ruminating or whatever you want to
- 1:18call that, obsessing, overfocusing. tend
- 1:21to narrow our focus on something. Like
- 1:23when we're under stress, it's really
- 1:24important to put all of your attention
- 1:26on the cause, right? Because you got to
- 1:27be able to deal with it. But a lot of
- 1:29times those causes are fictitious,
- 1:31right?
- 1:31>> And so now we're overfocusing our
- 1:33attention on something and the act of
- 1:35overfocusing our attention drives our
- 1:37brain further out of balance, right? We
- 1:39start revving it up into more aroused
- 1:40states. The answer will never be there
- 1:43because that person's thinking in the
- 1:45known.
