  24. 1:22So, first of all, it was a great way
  25. 1:25to find out who watches my show everyday.
  26. 1:31So when did you move here from the Dominican Republic?
  27. 1:34I moved here on May of 2011.
  28. 1:39OK.
  29. 1:39And you didn't speak any English at all?
  30. 1:41No.
  31. 1:41I literally speak two words.
  32. 1:43It was hello and goodbye.
  33. 1:45The most important words here.

  37. 1:48And so you learned English from watching my show.
  38. 1:51And how did you do that?

  42. 1:55I was just flipping through the channels,
  43. 1:58just flipping through it.
  44. 1:59And I just came to your face.
  45. 2:02You were there I asked my mom, "Who is that?"
  46. 2:04And my mom was like, "She's Ellen.
  47. 2:06She's really funny.
  48. 2:07Just watch the show.
  49. 2:09You will love her.
  50. 2:10I was like, "But I don't understand what she's saying.
  51. 2:12She was like, "Me either.
  52. 2:13But just watch it.
  53. 2:14She's hilarious.
  54. 2:16And then I was like, "OK.
  55. 2:17I watch it."
  56. 2:18I didn't understand anything you were saying, literally.
  57. 2:21I'm sorry, but I didn't.
  58. 2:23And then, at the end of the show, it was like,
  59. 2:27there was just this word that you say.
  60. 2:28You say, "Be kind."
  61. 2:31And then that word stuck with me.
  62. 2:34You know when you get this word that you really
  63. 2:37want to see what it is.
  64. 2:39I got my dictionary.
  65. 2:41I looked it up.
  66. 2:41And I kept looking at the wrong word,
  67. 2:44with the C instead of the K. Oh, my God.
  68. 2:48But I got it.
  69. 2:49And I saw how the word kind, and it means kindness,
  70. 2:52to be good to other people.
  71. 2:54And that stuck with me forever, because I'm loud.
  72. 2:59I'm affectionate.
  73. 3:00I like to be kind to everyone.
  74. 3:02So that just stuck with me to be who I am, with myself.
  75. 3:07So yeah.
  76. 3:07That's so sweet.
  77. 3:09I love that.
  78. 3:10I love that.
  79. 3:11So you said that you're very affectionate.
  80. 3:17I know that our culture is not as
  81. 3:18affectionate as your culture.
  82. 3:20Right?
  83. 3:20Yes.
  84. 3:21Y'all are very affectionate, and Americans are very uptight.
  85. 3:25Over there in Dominican, we are so loud.
  86. 3:28And we know everybody.
  87. 3:29We know every neighbor by name.
  88. 3:31We hug.
  89. 3:32We kiss in the cheek.
  90. 3:35And we hug you no matter what.
  91. 3:36If we meet you for the first time, we will still hug you.
  92. 3:39We still crazy.
  93. 3:40So I just keep doing that.
  94. 3:41Yeah.
  95. 3:41You keep doing it.
  96. 3:42You keep hugging them.
  97. 3:43You kiss them in the cheek.
  98. 3:44Of course.
  99. 3:45I do it.
  100. 3:45All right.
  101. 3:46And so you're putting yourself through college.
  102. 3:48You're a math tutor, And what else do you Do
  103. 3:51I'm a math tutor right now and I'm a cashier, sixth floor,
  104. 3:58in a retail store.

  107. 4:02So I have a gift for you, because you
  108. 4:04said you learned English watching me.
  109. 4:07So I have the Ellen DeGeneres Dictionary.

  116. 4:21And it's a noun.
  117. 4:22And the definition is an average human.
  118. 4:26OK.
  119. 4:28I love Andy.
  120. 4:29He's so cool.
  121. 4:30I love Andy.
  122. 4:32I love him, too.
  123. 4:33And then we have a Bachelor.
  124. 4:35And that's a noun, a television show Ellen tries not to watch
  125. 4:37but inevitably gets sucked back into every season.
  126. 4:41It's OK.
  127. 4:42Me too.
  128. 4:44I know.
  129. 4:44They pull you in.
  130. 4:46And then we have glitter.
  131. 4:47It's a noun.
  132. 4:48Tiny pieces of sparkly material that make me an absolute mess
  133. 4:51and should be illegal.
  134. 4:53Oh, my God.
  135. 4:54Right.
  136. 4:54Then we go further back in the dictionary we have Shutterfly.
  137. 4:57It's a noun.
  138. 4:57It's an incredible company that loves sharing life's joy
  139. 5:00and wants to help you with your education
  140. 5:02by giving you a check for $10,000.
