2. 0:02federal trial in San Jose. She spent
3. 0:05time in court today watching herself.
4. 0:08Interviews Holmes gave to NBC were
5. 0:10entered as evidence today as the
6. 0:12prosecution continues to try to convince
7. 0:15the jury that Holmes was in charge at
8. 0:17Theranos and calling the shots. Let's
9. 0:20bring in our business and tech reporter
10. 0:21Scott Budman who was in court all day
11. 0:23and Scott, we're out of the lab and into
12. 0:25the investment phase of this trial.
13. 0:30Yeah, it's true Janelle and there are
14. 0:31several big-time investors both from
15. 0:33Silicon Valley's Sand Hill Road and Wall
16. 0:35Street who collectively invested and
17. 0:38lost hundreds of millions of dollars in
18. 0:40Theranos. Today one testified that
19. 0:43Elizabeth Holmes was in charge and very
20. 0:46persuasive.
21. 0:48What do you think's going on here?
22. 0:49This is what happens when you work to
23. 0:51change things and
24. 0:53It was shortly after a damaging Wall
25. 0:55Street Journal article that Elizabeth
26. 0:57Holmes went on CNBC's Mad Money to
27. 1:01defend herself and Theranos.
28. 1:03First they think you're crazy, then they
29. 1:05fight you and then all of a sudden you
30. 1:07change the world.
31. 1:08Prosecutors played the interview in
32. 1:10court today.
33. 1:11I think the TV clips give the jurors an
34. 1:14opportunity to see Elizabeth Holmes in
35. 1:17her element. They they get to see her as
36. 1:20the in charge CEO, as the very confident
37. 1:24investment individual. And that's a very
38. 1:27different image than the than they're
39. 1:29portraying now in the courtroom.
40. 1:31For the second straight day the trial
41. 1:33featured a Theranos investor. This time
42. 1:36Lisa Peterson, equity manager and
43. 1:39advisor to the DeVos family, as in
44. 1:41former US Secretary of Education Betsy
45. 1:44DeVos. Her family invested $100 million
46. 1:47into Theranos. After Peterson testified
47. 1:51they met with Holmes and felt confident
48. 1:54about the company's prospects. Peterson,
49. 1:57like other investors, testified that
50. 1:59Holmes was in charge.
51. 2:01It could get the jury to see this woman
52. 2:03is able to, with a very straight face
53. 2:05and a very impassioned argument, make
54. 2:08statements that she knows are false.
55. 2:12Peterson was also asked if the DeVos
56. 2:14family saw those interviews on
57. 2:16television. She said, yes, but that
58. 2:18Holmes downplayed the bad news and again
59. 2:20insisted that Theranos machines would
