4. 0:05sentence in this California prison since
5. 0:081973 when at the age of 24 he murdered
6. 0:11his mother then called police and
7. 0:13confessed to having dismembered college
8. 0:15co-eds for two years as well as
9. 0:18cannibalizing and raping their headless
10. 0:20bodies
11. 0:21well someone abandons himself to being a
12. 0:23victim he's gonna have to be one with an
13. 0:28IQ of 136 Kemper is now the prison's
14. 0:33best reader of books for the blind I'm
15. 0:37saying I'd wanted to kill my mother
16. 0:39since I was 8 years old and I'm not
17. 0:40proud of that
18. 0:41it started with surrogates at that a non
19. 0:43human level physical objects my
20. 0:46possessions other people's destruction
21. 0:48of things that are cared about and then
22. 0:50its destruction of things that are
23. 0:52living on a lower level small animals
24. 0:54insects animals and then finally people
25. 0:57it started coming to a head again so I
26. 1:00went back down I ran away back down
27. 1:01there and then a month later I'm up
28. 1:03living with my grandparents in the
29. 1:05mountains and ten months later I
30. 1:06murdered them it made it worse to be on
31. 1:09top of a mountain I was literally on top
32. 1:10of a mountain when it happened and I
33. 1:12could sense I sensed everybody in the
34. 1:14world to stop and what they were doing
35. 1:15turning around saw what I did and are
36. 1:17coming to get me and I knew I was
37. 1:19paranoid at that moment I knew anybody
38. 1:21that came up there and gave me a funny
39. 1:22look or a fishy eye or quizzical look
40. 1:24out of blown their brains out thinking
41. 1:26they were coming to get me and if it'd
42. 1:27been in a city I'd have been a mass
43. 1:29murderer at age 15 I would have killed
44. 1:32until they gunned me down I wouldn't
45. 1:33have been able to reason my way out of
46. 1:34it I was scared to death and I was
47. 1:36violent I felt my back hit that wall I
48. 1:38was the rabbit that always ran that
49. 1:40always backed away always burned his
50. 1:41bridges suddenly there weren't any more
51. 1:43and my back hit that wall and I came out
52. 1:45screaming and kicking and shooting he
53. 1:48was released to the one person that
54. 1:49authorities of the state mental hospital
55. 1:51recommended he never see again
56. 1:53I got paroled to my mother a task Adaro
57. 1:57decided that I didn't ever need to talk
58. 2:00to her again at all don't give her a
59. 2:03Christmas present leave her alone she
60. 2:04got her pound of flesh out of you I
61. 2:06wasn't sniveling about my mother to them
62. 2:08I didn't like to hear what they had to
63. 2:09say about her she went through three
64. 2:11husbands like a hot knife through butter
65. 2:13when four months after I was out I was
66. 2:15back into the fantasy bag my first date
67. 2:19was an absolute disaster wasn't her
68. 2:21fault
69. 2:22you know and I didn't blame or even then
70. 2:25I'm saying it was a terrible tragedy but
71. 2:27boy was it boy she didn't ever talk to
72. 2:29me again it was awful wasn't sexual or
73. 2:32grabbing at her that was just such a
74. 2:33dork taking her to a John Wayne movie in
75. 2:35denny's it's terrible I'd never been on
76. 2:39a date at 16 that was cool you know I
77. 2:41never been on a date
78. 2:42you know I was locked up since I was 15
79. 2:44but I can't tell her that oh gee you
80. 2:47don't mind me you know she kind of got a
81. 2:48hung up on my looks or whatever you know
82. 2:50I mean she's a gorgeous young lady pure
83. 2:53class and she saw something there that I
84. 2:54guess wasn't there and or she found out
85. 2:57quick
86. 2:57taking elaborate precautions he drove
87. 3:00around universities and picked up
88. 3:02hitchhiking coeds while wearing these
89. 3:04glasses yeah these are the ones now
90. 3:11would you get in the car with this man
91. 3:12huh
92. 3:18mmm-hmm state has made me much more
93. 3:22credible as a human being while his
94. 3:25mother worked at the University Kemper
95. 3:27buried the mutilated bodies in the
96. 3:29mountains and took the severed heads
97. 3:31home then he slept with their heads for
98. 3:33days and finally went looking for more
99. 3:36but I was losing a grasp on something
100. 3:39that was too violent to keep inside
101. 3:41forever as I'm sitting there with a
102. 3:44severed head in my hand talking to it or
103. 3:47looking at it and I'm about to go crazy
104. 3:49literally I'm about to go completely
105. 3:51flywheel loose and just fall apart I say
106. 3:55wow this is insane and I told myself no
107. 3:59it isn't you're saying that and that
108. 4:00makes it not insane I said I'm saying
109. 4:04and I'm looking at a server and I said
110. 4:06well wait a minute wait a minute that's
111. 4:07the only paints of paintings and
112. 4:08drawings of Viking heroes talking to
113. 4:11severed heads and taking over the
114. 4:12parties old enemies and leather bags
115. 4:15part of our heritage this is me back
116. 4:19then in 1972 and 73 unable to live with
117. 4:24the fact that I just stabbed to death
118. 4:25and cut the throat of an innocent young
119. 4:27woman innocent in the sense that she did
120. 4:30not plan on that happening she didn't do
121. 4:31anything specifically for that to happen
122. 4:33to her if she was a very active
123. 4:35participant in her own death and in my
124. 4:38memory of that she was 19 years old and
125. 4:40her roommate in the trunk who died right
126. 4:42after that was 18
127. 4:45letting go hog-wild and totally live
128. 4:47what I'm saying is I found myself doing
129. 4:49things in an attempt to make things fit
130. 4:52together inside I was doing sexual
131. 4:54probings and things I mean in the sense
132. 4:55of striking out and reaching out and
133. 4:57grabbing and pulling to me but a peril
134. 5:00it the sense that it wasn't working that
135. 5:02isn't the way it's supposed to be
136. 5:03doesn't the way I want it said I'm
137. 5:06saying and yet I get during that time I
138. 5:08become engaged to someone who's young
139. 5:10and is beautiful and very much the same
140. 5:12advantages and they're very much the
141. 5:14same upbringing and Disneyland values
142. 5:18and she's very much the reason I
143. 5:23surrendered I picked up two girls who
144. 5:24were so much like the first two it was
145. 5:26unbelievable
146. 5:27almost identical circumstances and I let
147. 5:30him go everything went towards killing
148. 5:32him and I did but I'm saying wow it's
149. 5:35uncanny it was almost like it was meant
150. 5:36to be that way and I said wow I've got
151. 5:38this gotta stop and I let them out they
152. 5:42never even knew what was going on I let
153. 5:44them out I would have gotten away with
154. 5:45those two being murdered I said no it's
155. 5:48got to stop and a week later I murdered
156. 5:51my mother went back to Santa Cruz and
157. 5:53killed her he killed her with a hammer
158. 5:55in her sleep cut off her head and hands
159. 5:58but then put her vocal chords in the
160. 6:00garbage disposal and threw darts at her
161. 6:02severed head I am an American and I
162. 6:09killed Americans I am a human being and
163. 6:11I killed human beings and I did it in my
164. 6:15society
