2. 0:07our planet operates as a complex
3. 0:09mechanism in which every small part
4. 0:11counts only by working as a whole it is
5. 0:14able to provide us with the services
6. 0:16that are indispensable for life
7. 0:19it does it for free and without asking
8. 0:21us for anything in return
9. 0:24these complex mechanisms are known as
10. 0:26ecosystem services or environmental
11. 0:29services
12. 0:31that has the benefits that nature
13. 0:33provides to humans through the balanced
14. 0:35functioning of ecosystems
15. 0:37in nature there are several types of
16. 0:40ecosystem services
17. 0:42provisioning ecosystem services are the
18. 0:45products we obtain directly from
19. 0:47ecosystems such as food water or raw
20. 0:50materials such as firewood
21. 0:53there are also regulating services they
22. 0:55offer as benefits directly from
23. 0:57ecosystems without going through
24. 0:59transformation processes we're talking
25. 1:02for example about pollination climate
26. 1:04regulation or the water cycle
27. 1:07in addition nature inspires us
28. 1:09artistically and scientifically partly
29. 1:12through cultural ecosystem services this
30. 1:14includes natural heritage traditional
31. 1:17knowledge and customs all of these help
32. 1:19us to identify with the environment in
33. 1:21which we live
34. 1:23finally there are the supporting
35. 1:25services necessary for the production of
36. 1:27other ecosystem services for example the
37. 1:30action of thousands of organisms working
38. 1:33together produces soil fertilization and
39. 1:36thanks to them we can grow food
40. 1:39we will continue with the example of
41. 1:41soil to illustrate the importance of
42. 1:43ecosystem services for life and why
43. 1:46people are responsible for their balance
44. 1:49in forested areas rain erodes the soil
45. 1:52less than in arid areas this directly
46. 1:55affects the maintenance of riverbeds and
47. 1:57prevents natural disasters such as
48. 1:59floods one of the many existing reasons
49. 2:02to fight against deforestation
50. 2:06moreover if we avoid deforestation all
51. 2:10those trees will absorb co2 from the
52. 2:12atmosphere in their photosynthesis
53. 2:14process reducing the presence of
54. 2:16greenhouse gases and helping us to
55. 2:19mitigate climate
56. 2:20change the world stays alive if every
57. 2:24little piece of its large and complex
58. 2:26machinery works as it should let's not
59. 2:29spoil it let's take care of what nature
60. 2:32offers us
