5. 0:09this is john barnett speaking and i'm so
6. 0:11glad you've come with us to our
7. 0:13exploring proverbs class we're going to
8. 0:15be looking
9. 0:16at three verses and if you can take your
10. 0:18bible we're going to look at proverbs 18
11. 0:2122
12. 0:22proverbs 5 19 especially the second half
13. 0:25and then genesis 2 18. now do you
14. 0:28remember we're exploring the book of
15. 0:30proverbs
16. 0:31we're going through it
17. 0:34just focusing out of all of the topics
18. 0:37the top 10 topics and look where we've
19. 0:40gotten to
20. 0:41we've gotten to the fifth the halfway
21. 0:44point
22. 0:45which i call being singular
23. 0:49one of the the biggest elements of the
24. 0:51second greatest day of your life which
25. 0:53by the way is your marriage is that you
26. 0:56have
27. 0:56a selective and aggressive approach
28. 0:59toward one person
29. 1:01that you make a covenant relationship
30. 1:03with for life
31. 1:04and so relationships and marriage are
32. 1:08what we're looking at
33. 1:09through the lens of living life god's
34. 1:12way
35. 1:13so some of you you might have just tuned
36. 1:15in for this for the first time you're
37. 1:17not enrolled or anything and you're
38. 1:18going
39. 1:19whoa what is this about well this is
40. 1:21about the contrast between
41. 1:23man's view of marriage and relationships
42. 1:26and god's truth and we're looking at
43. 1:31the singular focus we're to have to have
44. 1:34a marriage that pleases god
45. 1:36in the context of the book of proverbs
46. 1:38okay so here we go let's go through
47. 1:40proverbs 18
48. 1:42and look at verse 22 it says he who
49. 1:44finds a wife
50. 1:45finds a good thing and obtains favor
51. 1:48from the lord
52. 1:50the second greatest day of your life is
53. 1:52the day you find
54. 1:53a good thing and favor from the lord
55. 1:55which is in
56. 1:57your marriage now remember
57. 2:00the second greatest day is based on
58. 2:02there being a first
59. 2:03greatest day okay i've done over 300
60. 2:07weddings and at nearly every one of
61. 2:08those weddings
62. 2:09i've started out by saying welcome to
63. 2:12the second greatest day in the life of
64. 2:13this
65. 2:14young lady and this young man and there
66. 2:17is
67. 2:17murmuring out in the congregation the
68. 2:19people witnessing it
69. 2:21and they're saying is this a second
70. 2:22marriage for them what are you
71. 2:24and that was intentional because what i
72. 2:26do as a part of the ceremony is
73. 2:28i'll say the first and greatest day of
74. 2:30their life
75. 2:32was the day that they were saved
76. 2:36and became a part of god's family and so
77. 2:40in god's family marriage
78. 2:43becomes the second greatest day of your
79. 2:45life when you get to be a living
80. 2:47portrait of christ's love for his church
81. 2:49now not everybody gets married
82. 2:52not everybody is called to marriage but
83. 2:54the vast
84. 2:55vast vast majority of people throughout
85. 2:59all of history
86. 3:00and in the word of god god designed for
87. 3:04the vast majority
88. 3:05to be married a few like paul are called
89. 3:08to singleness
90. 3:09and that there is great blessing in that
91. 3:13in fact god even made jeremiah
92. 3:16the prophet in the old testament not be
93. 3:19able to get married
94. 3:20so there is a place for singleness and
95. 3:22single focus on christ
96. 3:24that is part of being singular doing
97. 3:27what you're called to do and have an eye
98. 3:28single but in this lesson number five
99. 3:32we're looking at the second greatest day
100. 3:34when you find a wife from the lord in
101. 3:36favor
102. 3:37now look across the page in your bible
103. 3:38look at chapter 19 verse 14
104. 3:40houses and riches are an inheritance
105. 3:42from fathers but what's the next line
106. 3:44say
107. 3:45a prudent wife is from the lord back up
108. 3:47to chapter 5
109. 3:49and verse 19 right in the beginning of
110. 3:51your bibles look at genesis chapter 2
111. 3:55and verse 18. now this again is contrary
112. 3:58to everything you hear in society and
113. 3:59culture
114. 4:00and in the world and probably on google
115. 4:04because this world is wired man's way
116. 4:07which is
117. 4:08satan's way which is the god of this
118. 4:10world's way
119. 4:11but when you get saved you get rewired
120. 4:15from the inside out and you start having
121. 4:18god's wisdom and you submit to his word
122. 4:21you're saved by his grace and you live
123. 4:22humbly and this
124. 4:24is why god designed marriage and and for
125. 4:27some of you it might be the first time
126. 4:28you've ever heard this
127. 4:30genesis 2 and verse 18 and the lord said
128. 4:33it is not good that man shall be
129. 4:35should be alone i will make a helper
130. 4:39comparable to him wow
131. 4:42marriage was designed by god the second
132. 4:45greatest day of our life being marriage
133. 4:47god wants to make me self-controlled
134. 4:49not rash god says that wise people
135. 4:53seek a biblical temperament and
136. 4:57here's the first one god says wise
137. 4:58people are self-controlled second one
138. 5:00god says wise people have a calm spirit
139. 5:03third
140. 5:04god says wise people are slow to anger
141. 5:06now look up from your slide
142. 5:08we are going to look at the most
143. 5:10powerful
144. 5:12contrast between what the world says
145. 5:16is the way we should live and what god
146. 5:19has designed as the correct operating
147. 5:24lifestyle for his creations i prayed for
148. 5:28bonnie for 27 years
149. 5:30i came from a dysfunctional family my
150. 5:32parents fought almost every memory i
151. 5:34have growing up
152. 5:36there was hardly a day or a week that
153. 5:37went by there wasn't tension
154. 5:39fighting throwing yelling whatever
155. 5:43and so the one thing i never wanted to
156. 5:44do is be married
157. 5:46that's what i learned from my parents i
158. 5:48didn't want to be married who wants to
159. 5:49fight all the time and yell
160. 5:52and so i knew after i got saved and
161. 5:55and was called the ministry that one of
162. 5:58the
163. 5:58marks of an elder is that they're the
164. 6:00husband of but one wife
165. 6:02and they have an eye single for that
166. 6:03wife and so i began praying from about
167. 6:05age
168. 6:0612 on that the lord would keep me from
169. 6:09marrying the wrong person
170. 6:11and i began studying what we're going
171. 6:13through right here in the book of
172. 6:14proverbs
173. 6:15and you can take your bibles and start
174. 6:17going to proverbs 25
175. 6:1928 and i prayed
176. 6:22every day in fact the older i got
177. 6:25the more earnest those prayers were i
178. 6:28said lord
179. 6:30don't let me marry the wrong person
180. 6:32don't let me look for the wrong
181. 6:34things don't let me be deceived
182. 6:37and you know what and this is not for
183. 6:39everybody this is just anecdotal this is
184. 6:41just my personal experience
185. 6:43but after praying for
186. 6:46for all those years from age 12 to 27
187. 6:5015 years of praying the same thing over
188. 6:52and over again
189. 6:54i dated many many many girls one time
190. 6:58but i'll never forget knocking on
191. 7:03the door of bonnie's apartment she
192. 7:05opened the door
193. 7:06a crack you know it was at night and you
194. 7:09know i was picking her up
195. 7:11after we arranged for me to take her out
196. 7:13and she opened the door
197. 7:14and all i saw were her eyes and her
198. 7:17smile
199. 7:18looking through that little crack in the
200. 7:19door and you know what
201. 7:21inside of me my mind said right then
202. 7:25i didn't say it out loud i said that's
203. 7:27who you've prayed for
204. 7:28your whole life and you know what
205. 7:32on our second date i looked her in the
206. 7:34eye and i said did you know you're the
207. 7:36one
208. 7:36person i have prayed to me
209. 7:40my whole life and as soon as i said that
210. 7:41i thought i shouldn't have said that it
211. 7:42sounds like a pickup line
212. 7:44or something but it was true how did i
213. 7:47recognize
214. 7:48that she was god's choice for me look
215. 7:51look at your slide again and then i'm
216. 7:53gonna go through it verse 28
217. 7:56whoever has no rule over his own spirit
218. 7:58is like a city broken down without walls
219. 8:01god says marry someone that's
220. 8:03self-controlled if they're
221. 8:05out of control they're not under god's
222. 8:07control number two
223. 8:08look at 17 27 so back up in proverbs
224. 8:12chapter 17 and verse 27
225. 8:15he who has knowledge spares his words
226. 8:19and a man of understanding is of a calm
227. 8:22spirit
228. 8:23god says wise people have a calm spirit
229. 8:25about him
230. 8:26you say that's not how i am and you know
231. 8:29what i say
232. 8:30that's what god can make you do you know
233. 8:32what the fruit of the spirit is in
234. 8:34galatians 5
235. 8:35it's a personality transplant
236. 8:38i was raised with with tension with
237. 8:41yelling with fighting
238. 8:43and so that's how i'm wired from birth
239. 8:47that's my fallen rebellious proud spirit
240. 8:50god can transplant the personality of
241. 8:53jesus christ into me
242. 8:55and he's been doing that since i was
243. 8:56saved uh over 50 years ago
244. 9:00and he can transplant his personality
245. 9:02into you
246. 9:03number one self-controlled that's the
247. 9:05fruit of the spirit number two a calm
248. 9:07spirit
249. 9:07that's something that is christ-like
250. 9:10jesus is
251. 9:10meek and lowly in heart it says in
252. 9:13matthew 11
253. 9:1428 to 30. number three look at proverbs
254. 9:1729
255. 9:19so take your bibles and get to chapter
256. 9:2229
257. 9:23and look at verse 8 with me 29
258. 9:268 says scoffers set a city of flame but
259. 9:29wise men turn away wrath
260. 9:31so god says wise people are slow to
261. 9:33anger and keep going to verse 11
262. 9:36a fool vents all his feelings
263. 9:40but a wise man holds them back so god
264. 9:42says wise people
265. 9:43are slow to anger calm in spirit
266. 9:44self-controlled now
267. 9:46look back at the slide let's go through
268. 9:47the next three
269. 9:49how do you know this is a great marriage
270. 9:51partner if you're
271. 9:52meeting someone god says that you should
272. 9:55only marry a wise person by the way
273. 9:57which means a saved person but they are
274. 10:01cautious not hasty number
275. 10:04five wise people think before they act
276. 10:08and we'll read those verses and god says
277. 10:11wise people
278. 10:12think before they speak proverbs 19
279. 10:152. by the way all these verses are what
280. 10:17i spent
281. 10:18years and years and years as a single
282. 10:20person
283. 10:21reading the book of proverbs marking
284. 10:24them
285. 10:24for what a godly woman looks like and
286. 10:27what a godly man looks like
287. 10:29and what i want to become is that godly
288. 10:31man by god's grace with the wisdom from
289. 10:33above
290. 10:34and what i want to find and and wait on
291. 10:37the lord to marry
292. 10:38is one of those godly women and so i saw
293. 10:42what i wanted to marry and i saw what i
294. 10:43wanted to be
295. 10:45and and i found it in god's word and i
296. 10:47began to pray and say change
297. 10:49me into also it's not good for a soul to
298. 10:51be without knowledge
299. 10:52and he sins who hastens
300. 10:56with his feet god says wise people are
301. 10:58cautious they're not hasty
302. 11:01you know what that means god's never in
303. 11:02a hurry and i shouldn't be
304. 11:05hasty words hasty decisions hasty
305. 11:07actions
306. 11:09god says those are not wise
307. 11:13watch out for a hasty person they just
308. 11:17make
309. 11:17snap judgments and decisions it's not an
310. 11:20evidence of the wisdom from above next
311. 11:24look at proverbs 13
312. 11:2516. so back up
313. 11:28proverbs 13 verse 16 says every prudent
314. 11:31man acts with knowledge but a fool lays
315. 11:33open as folly
316. 11:34god says wise people think before they
317. 11:36act look at chapter 14 and verse 8
318. 11:38another verse on this the wisdom of the
319. 11:41prudent is to understand
320. 11:42his way but the folly of fools is deceit
321. 11:44thinking before they act
322. 11:46prudence uh the sixth element of what
323. 11:50would make a great marriage partner is
324. 11:51god says wise people
325. 11:53think before they talk in fact proverbs
326. 11:5612 and verse 23 let me read it to you
327. 12:00it says a prudent man conceals knowledge
328. 12:03but the heart of fools proclaims
329. 12:05foolishness keep going to chapter 15 and
330. 12:07verse 2
331. 12:08it says the tongue of the wise uses
332. 12:10knowledge rightly but the mouth of
333. 12:12fools pours forth foolishness now
334. 12:16think about this you want one of the
335. 12:18best ways to
336. 12:20find a godly partner to spend your life
337. 12:22with
338. 12:24before you go out with them watch them
339. 12:25for a while
340. 12:27watch how they act watch how they talk
341. 12:30watch how they make decisions
342. 12:32proverbs says watch who they have as
343. 12:34friends
344. 12:35do you remember that over here we're
345. 12:37supposed to be selective
346. 12:39you watch for a person who wants to do
347. 12:41the will of god who is very cautious who
348. 12:43they have as friends
349. 12:44who are humble who have a singular focus
350. 12:46toward their relationships
351. 12:48who are self-controlled unintoxicated
352. 12:51living
353. 12:52they have a stewardship mind of their
354. 12:54money and time their they realize that
355. 12:56they belong to the lord
356. 12:57they're they're studious you know what
357. 12:58that means they have the right work
358. 13:00ethic a godly work ethic do you know
359. 13:02god has a work ethic and he says people
360. 13:04that are wise and submitted to him are
361. 13:06not
362. 13:06sluggards i can't wait till we get to
363. 13:09this one
364. 13:11do you know a lot of people that call
365. 13:13themselves christians
366. 13:15are sluggards you know what that means
367. 13:18they're living foolishly rebelling
368. 13:20against the god
369. 13:22who called them in pride thinking they
370. 13:23know what's best
371. 13:25and it says and you remember our second
372. 13:27lesson we looked at this
373. 13:28that they're going to suffer loss at the
374. 13:31judgment seat of christ
375. 13:32well let's go to the next slide your
376. 13:35marriage
377. 13:36god designed to be the second greatest
378. 13:38day of your life
379. 13:40and that's because our goals is that we
380. 13:42have a life
381. 13:44and we have a marriage that's useful to
382. 13:47god now look up from your slide
383. 13:49the greatest desire that we should have
384. 13:52in life
385. 13:52is to be useful to god that's what it
386. 13:55means that we
387. 13:56that we submit to him and that we
388. 14:00by his salvation humbly come before him
389. 14:02we want to be useful
390. 14:04we want to be his servant his slave
391. 14:07and the bible says that as we come
392. 14:10before him
393. 14:11that we start looking and this next
394. 14:14slide
395. 14:15tells us what is a biblical marriage and
396. 14:18partner really like
397. 14:19and this is what the bible describes in
398. 14:21the book of proverbs and i
399. 14:23i want to read these to you okay so just
400. 14:26keep looking at the slide take notes and
401. 14:28i'll read this to you
402. 14:29marriage is to be like a joyful river of
403. 14:33intoxicating
404. 14:34blessing well that's how god describes
405. 14:37marriage
406. 14:38we're intoxicated marriage is goodness
407. 14:40and favor from the lord
408. 14:42marriage is to be the companion of our
409. 14:44youth to whom we make
410. 14:46a lifelong covenant next slide
411. 14:50marriage is to be such a wonderful
412. 14:51attraction that seven years of hard
413. 14:53labor
414. 14:54waiting for this moment is like a moment
415. 14:57that's what happened to jacob marriage
416. 14:59is to be like a
417. 15:00fruitful vine that delightfully grows
418. 15:03around our life so how does this happen
419. 15:06we'll see the next slide it's what i was
420. 15:09mentioning to you
421. 15:10we be and become and we wait and find
422. 15:14now let me read you the slide be and
423. 15:16become
424. 15:17a person who believes that god designed
425. 15:19marriage and wants to follow his plan
426. 15:22and be and become a person who will
427. 15:25correspond
428. 15:27to that person got picks now look up
429. 15:29from your slide
430. 15:32if you're married today then you
431. 15:35should be the wise man or woman
432. 15:39by god's grace that proverbs described
433. 15:41if you're not married
434. 15:43you should be or become a person that
435. 15:46believes god designed marriage
436. 15:48remember this verse god designed
437. 15:50marriage
438. 15:51he designed it for you to complete
439. 15:54another person
440. 15:55and you should wait and find
441. 15:59the person that corresponds to you what
442. 16:02person corresponds to you
443. 16:05one who's not living the way of the
444. 16:08world
445. 16:09rather one who is humbly
446. 16:12by god's grace submitting to god's
447. 16:16wisdom
448. 16:17that's what he wants look at the next
449. 16:18slide
450. 16:20we should be or become a person who will
451. 16:22be
452. 16:23glued to the other and we should wait
453. 16:25and find
454. 16:26a person who likes to be at home and not
455. 16:28always running around that's what
456. 16:30deuteronomy 6 7 says
457. 16:32now look up from the slide that first
458. 16:34one be or become a person who will be
459. 16:36glued to your partner
460. 16:39did you know that modern dating
461. 16:43is much like uh one of those self-stick
462. 16:46envelopes have you ever seen a
463. 16:47self-stick envelope you don't have to
464. 16:48lick it
465. 16:49it you pull a strip off and it closes
466. 16:52and sticks
467. 16:53but then you realize you didn't put
468. 16:54something into the letter so you
469. 16:56carefully pry that off
470. 16:58open it up put it in and then you try
471. 17:00and stick it back did you know after you
472. 17:02stuck it once and then unstuck it and
473. 17:04then you try and stick it again it
474. 17:05doesn't work very well
475. 17:07god designed marriage that you glue to
476. 17:10one person for life
477. 17:12not glued to this one for a little while
478. 17:13and then glued to this one for a little
479. 17:15while and glued to that one for a little
480. 17:16while
481. 17:16and keep ungluing did you know modern
482. 17:19dating is much like getting married and
483. 17:21divorced over and over again
484. 17:24in fact the majority of young people
485. 17:26live
486. 17:27together before they're married
487. 17:30they get glued and then unglued
488. 17:34now i don't need to remind you that god
489. 17:36says living together is fornication
490. 17:39i'm talking about any sexual
491. 17:42contact with a person other than
492. 17:46your husband or wife is sin
493. 17:49any i didn't say actually
494. 17:53having sex relations i said sexual
495. 17:55conduct
496. 17:56the bible says starting sexual desires
497. 17:59that can't be satisfied
498. 18:01is defrauding a person so you know
499. 18:05before you start
500. 18:06sticking and unsticking and sticking and
501. 18:07unsticking you should say lord
502. 18:09i want to follow your design for
503. 18:12marriage
504. 18:13and i want to be a a person that
505. 18:16believes i'm only supposed to be glued
506. 18:17to one
507. 18:19you know what that means love can wait
508. 18:22lust can't okay look at the next slide
509. 18:27beer become a person who loves children
510. 18:29and wants to teach them
511. 18:30that's what god said the purpose of
512. 18:32marriage is to have a godly home
513. 18:34be a be or become a person that wants a
514. 18:36pure home as deuteronomy 6 9 says
515. 18:39be a person who wants to keep their word
516. 18:41and is reliable and then wait and find
517. 18:44someone who loves children wants to
518. 18:45teach them
519. 18:46and wait and find someone who wants to
520. 18:48have a pure home and wait and find
521. 18:50someone who keeps their word and look at
522. 18:51the next slide
523. 18:54marry someone living a balanced
524. 18:57life in a in an obsessive
525. 19:00and a compulsive world
526. 19:04now look up from the slide what do i
527. 19:07mean by that
528. 19:09well god has laid down the most
529. 19:12beautiful new testament summary of the
530. 19:15book of proverbs
531. 19:16did you know that there's a book in the
532. 19:17new testament that summarizes all these
533. 19:20qualities of wisdom into a concise
534. 19:24little package in fact it's the only
535. 19:28listen to this it's the only curriculum
536. 19:34in the bible
537. 19:37for every
538. 19:41young man young woman
539. 19:46older woman younger woman
540. 19:50every group young and old men and women
541. 19:53every one of them there's a new
542. 19:56testament book
543. 19:58that tells you exactly what you are to
544. 20:00be and become
545. 20:01and wait and look for did you know that
546. 20:05look at this slide the pathway of
547. 20:07usefulness to god
548. 20:09is in the new testament epistle of titus
549. 20:12chapter 2
550. 20:13where in one small passage every older
551. 20:16man
552. 20:17every older woman every younger woman
553. 20:19and every younger man is addressed look
554. 20:21at the next slide
555. 20:23the this is the curriculum god sent for
556. 20:25his church
557. 20:26in titus 2 verses 1 through 8
558. 20:30his 12-part plan 12 character qualities
559. 20:34for godly men and godly women now
560. 20:36look up from the slide for a second
561. 20:38there's really no
562. 20:40passage of scripture like this in the
563. 20:41whole bible it actually says
564. 20:45that the older men that the older women
565. 20:48that the younger women that the younger
566. 20:50men let me ask you
567. 20:51in the church is there anybody else
568. 20:53that's not either an older
569. 20:55or younger man or woman no it's the only
570. 20:59place
571. 20:59in eight little verses all four groups
572. 21:02that make up
573. 21:03every gathering older and younger men
574. 21:05and women
575. 21:06are addressed with specifics okay look
576. 21:09at the slides because i want to go
577. 21:10through these with you
578. 21:11like i said this is an immense
579. 21:15topic that that we need to take time to
580. 21:18understand
581. 21:20titus 2 1 and 2 gives
582. 21:24these qualities for older men
583. 21:27and i'll read it to you from the card
584. 21:29there but as for you speak the things
585. 21:31which are proper for sound doctrine
586. 21:33that the older men be sober
587. 21:36reverent temperate sound in faith
588. 21:40in love impatience okay now look up
589. 21:44take your bible if you haven't turned
590. 21:45there already let's go to titus 2
591. 21:49and i would like to
592. 21:52briefly apply
593. 21:56these verses okay number one titus 2
594. 22:01um verse 2 did the older man be sober
595. 22:04what what does that mean when the bible
596. 22:07says
597. 22:08the older men be sober
598. 22:11this is this is the way i summarize it
599. 22:13maintaining
600. 22:14a balanced life
601. 22:17in a world that's always obsessive
602. 22:21compulsive do you know what sober minded
603. 22:23means is
604. 22:24you don't get drawn away with every
605. 22:27pendulum
606. 22:28fad that is the goal of every older man
607. 22:32that he have this this this lifestyle
608. 22:36of kind of like a straight line that's
609. 22:39not always wavering
610. 22:41number two reverent getting serious
611. 22:43about god in an amused world number
612. 22:45three
613. 22:45temperate living wisely in a foolish
614. 22:49world
615. 22:50number four sound in faith what does
616. 22:52sound mean
617. 22:53the greek word is hugayno it means
618. 22:55healthy
619. 22:57and it means guarding a healthy mind
620. 23:00this is your mind is the connection
621. 23:03between the spiritual world and the
622. 23:05physical world
623. 23:06between our body and god this is the
624. 23:08connection
625. 23:09this is the interface this is so
626. 23:13valuable you know what most people do
627. 23:14they guard this their mouth
628. 23:16i mean you meet people they wouldn't put
629. 23:18a spoon in fact we're in the covid time
630. 23:20i mean we have a mask over we don't want
631. 23:22to breathe in anything that's a
632. 23:23contagion
633. 23:24we don't want to put anything in our
634. 23:26mouth that might have you know the
635. 23:27kovid 19 virus and so we're protective
636. 23:31of our
637. 23:31physical body yet we will let
638. 23:35anything in spiritually into our minds
639. 23:38through our ears or through our eyes
640. 23:41that's contaminated this godly older man
641. 23:46is sound in faith he guards his healthy
642. 23:49mind in a sick
643. 23:50world he's also the same word hugino in
644. 23:53love
645. 23:54he has healthy love sound and love means
646. 23:56healthy
647. 23:57and what that means is staying tender in
648. 23:59a cruel world
649. 24:00and he's also sound impatient patience
650. 24:03he finishes hopefully in a despairing
651. 24:05world he kind of has that
652. 24:06long-term view okay so that's older men
653. 24:10and that's the goal of every man now
654. 24:13look down to slides
655. 24:14at what the younger men are supposed to
656. 24:16look like that's in verse
657. 24:18six and i'll read it to you likewise
658. 24:21exhort the young men to be sober minded
659. 24:24and all things showing yourself to be a
660. 24:26pattern of good works every young man

717. 26:22until 4 00 a.m playing video games
718. 26:26went to sleep at five slept through

723. 26:37can't stay focused on god because
724. 26:39they're distracted by the world

730. 26:53everybody's resting with sin and lust

892. 33:28at the gate go into the changing rooms

898. 33:42she said are you ready follow me
899. 33:46and that woman walked reverently down
900. 33:49the sacred way
901. 33:53and took you to meet the god
902. 33:58she was the representative of god

927. 34:54that god gave to every woman
928. 34:58to start preparing to live a life
929. 35:03of being a representative of god

959. 36:05obedience to their husbands
960. 36:07pursuing submission in a rebellious

972. 36:35public displays of his plan and purposes

977. 36:46and never finding lasting satisfaction
978. 36:49that's what the worldlings are like
979. 36:51and we're supposed to radiate christ

981. 36:58did you know that marriage is one of the
982. 36:59most powerful witnessing tools
983. 37:01did you know that that you can live in
984. 37:03such a way that people go
985. 37:08i don't understand you you're totally
986. 37:10different
987. 37:12i mean you you're acting
988. 37:15differently than i am
989. 37:19why and you say well i
990. 37:23i i was going the same way you are
991. 37:27did you know salvation is much like uh
992. 37:31going down a river here's a river and a
993. 37:34river always flows
994. 37:35you know from its source to its
995. 37:38destination so
996. 37:39it's flowing following gravity like that
997. 37:43and so there are two ways of living in
998. 37:45the world you and i were born
999. 37:47man's way is that we were born into the
1000. 37:49river
1001. 37:50of all humanity and we drift along
1002. 37:52following the crowd going
1003. 37:54toward the destination and most people
1004. 37:57don't know what the destination is they
1005. 37:58just try and have as much
1006. 37:59fun on the river rafting
1007. 38:02party as they can god says
1008. 38:07you were born drifting down the river
1009. 38:10and you bump into jesus christ
1010. 38:14he stops you in the river now
1011. 38:17people get saved at all different times
1012. 38:19some people are saved near the end of
1013. 38:21their life some people are saved at the
1014. 38:22midpoint
1015. 38:23most people come to know christ as a
1016. 38:25young person
1017. 38:27but you know what when we get saved
1018. 38:30jesus turns us from going
1019. 38:33toward the broad way the way of
1020. 38:36destruction
1021. 38:38the way that the world is going and he
1022. 38:41points us the other way toward the
1023. 38:42narrow
1024. 38:44gate the way of wisdom
1025. 38:47submitting to him of salvation
1026. 38:51of not being proud like everybody in the
1027. 38:53world
1028. 38:54and he turns around our little raft our
1029. 38:57boat our canoe
1030. 38:58and you know what what the christian
1031. 39:00life is
1032. 39:02it's paddling upstream
1033. 39:07here you are and you're going this way
1034. 39:14everybody else is going that way
1035. 39:18that's what's called persecution
1036. 39:20opposition
1037. 39:21everybody in the world is going whoa
1038. 39:24you're going the wrong way
1039. 39:25come on we're going this way do you know
1040. 39:27what peter said
1041. 39:28he said people get upset at you because
1042. 39:31you don't want to do what they're doing
1043. 39:32you don't want to go to their parties
1044. 39:33you don't want to get drunk you don't
1045. 39:35want to get high
1046. 39:36you don't want to live for materialistic
1047. 39:38goals in life
1048. 39:39and abandon your family and your
1049. 39:41relationships just for yourself
1050. 39:43and you you say it's time for me to live
1051. 39:45for myself and
1052. 39:46you know achieve everything no i want to
1053. 39:48submit
1054. 39:50to god and i want to live his way
1055. 39:55wow marriage
1056. 39:58when lived out the way proverbs
1057. 40:00describes it
1058. 40:02and titus 2 gives the curriculum for
1059. 40:05for every older and younger man and
1060. 40:07older and younger woman
1061. 40:09radiates christ look back at your slide
1062. 40:13we're to go out and live in a dark and
1063. 40:14hopeless world and the wildlings are
1064. 40:16chasing elusive pleasures and they never
1065. 40:18find lasting satisfaction

1100. 41:36christ love his church he loves us every

1102. 41:38he sacrificially loves us he cleanses us
1103. 41:41he affirms us he nurtures us he protects
1104. 41:44us he pursues us
1105. 41:46and he never gives up on us so that's
1106. 41:49how christ
1107. 41:49loves his church look at the next slide

1109. 41:57christ's love for his church
1110. 42:00to their husbands now that's the other
1111. 42:04half of ephesians
1112. 42:055 22-33 husbands are supposed to
1113. 42:09live out christ's role in fact i used to
1114. 42:11love remember i told you i did 300
1115. 42:13weddings
1116. 42:14and i used to love getting that couple
1117. 42:16up there and they're standing
1118. 42:17and looking at everybody and then i say
1119. 42:19turn and face one another
1120. 42:20and then i would look out the
1121. 42:21congregation and say you know what this
1122. 42:22young man has signed up for the hardest
1123. 42:24job in the world
1124. 42:25he said he's going to go through life
1125. 42:27saying
1126. 42:28i'm representing jesus christ and so the
1127. 42:31way i treat my wife is the way jesus
1128. 42:33christ treats his church
1129. 42:35i would say those words and i'd have
1130. 42:36grooms go
1131. 42:38they'd look up at me like
1132. 42:42wow i didn't think of that
1133. 42:45i thought of i got the most beautiful
1134. 42:47woman in the world and i'm marrying her
1135. 42:49and it starts dawning on them
1136. 42:52that marriage is a living
1137. 42:56portrait of christ love for the church
1138. 43:01so wait a minute let's let's go back
1139. 43:03look look down at your slides
1140. 43:06men are you thinking
1141. 43:09about christ's love for you daily
1142. 43:12that christ sacrifices for you that he
1143. 43:16wants to cleanse you
1144. 43:18keep you pure and clean and sanctified
1145. 43:20that he affirms you and said you're my
1146. 43:22beloved and you belong to me
1147. 43:24that he nurtures he he feeds us in his
1148. 43:26word and we should
1149. 43:28as it says in revelation 3 20 he's
1150. 43:30knocking at the door we should let him
1151. 43:31come in and eat with us
1152. 43:33he protects us jesus is pursuing us
1153. 43:36even when we're not faithful he is and
1154. 43:39he never gives up on us
1155. 43:41whoa look up from your slide is that
1156. 43:44what you're becoming
1157. 43:46christ like that's how you get ready
1158. 43:51for the second greatest day of your life
1159. 43:53that's a singular focus
1160. 43:55on your your greatest relationship
1161. 43:59that you can have of merging your life
1162. 44:03with your wife you
1163. 44:06be and become more and more
1164. 44:09christ-like now ladies look back at your
1165. 44:12slide
1166. 44:14if men are supposed to reflect christ
1167. 44:18women are to reflect christ's love for
1168. 44:21his church
1169. 44:22to their husbands how does a wife do
1170. 44:24that
1171. 44:25well this is what the bible describes as
1172. 44:28god's plan for every woman
1173. 44:31just like if we love jesus christ we
1174. 44:34follow him
1175. 44:35just as we love jesus christ we honor
1176. 44:37him
1177. 44:38just as we love jesus christ we respond
1178. 44:40to him
1179. 44:41do you understand that just as we love
1180. 44:44jesus christ we enjoy his presence we
1181. 44:46follow his lead we feel his love we seek
1182. 44:48time with him
1183. 44:48and we love his plan now look up from

1186. 44:58this is what
1187. 45:01the book of proverbs if you'll take the
1188. 45:05time
1189. 45:06to begin with prayerful openheartedness
1190. 45:10reading
1191. 45:12proverbs shows you how to get ready for
1192. 45:15the second greatest day of your life
1193. 45:18that that delight of marriage
1194. 45:23how do you do that by reading brides
1195. 45:25magazine and watching
1196. 45:26every you know chick flick romance movie
1197. 45:29possible and just
1198. 45:31you know kind of being a little giggly
1199. 45:33about getting married every day of your
1200. 45:34life there's nothing wrong with that
1201. 45:36but you want to really get ready
1202. 45:39number one follow jesus christ
1203. 45:42every day start following jesus christ
1204. 45:46how do you follow him and by the way
1205. 45:48this is true for men
1206. 45:49and women this isn't just heavy on the
1207. 45:51wives thing
1208. 45:52and the young ladies we follow him
1209. 45:56by opening his word and saying i want
1210. 45:58you to speak to me
1211. 46:01this is the word of god the bible is god
1212. 46:04talking
1213. 46:05prayer is me talking to him
1214. 46:08the bible is him talking
1215. 46:11to me if you're following someone
1216. 46:14you listen to them you find out where
1217. 46:17they're going
1218. 46:19you find out what they want you to do
1219. 46:21you follow them
1220. 46:22the most important thing for a wife is
1221. 46:25learn to follow christ
1222. 46:27so that when that young man that
1223. 46:29represents jesus christ
1224. 46:31that is seeking to point his life
1225. 46:34in biblical wisdom towards submitting to
1226. 46:38jesus christ
1227. 46:39because he is saved and humbly following
1228. 46:42him
1229. 46:43she'll have no trouble following that
1230. 46:46young man
1231. 46:47so do you want to have a wonderful
1232. 46:49romantic godly marriage
1233. 46:51follow christ today and he will bring
1234. 46:54into your life in his perfect time
1235. 46:58and you will see a young man as you
1236. 47:01observe him
1237. 47:02that you will be drawn to that is christ
1238. 47:05like and you want to follow him
1239. 47:07secondly you want to honor him we honor
1240. 47:09christ how do we honor christ
1241. 47:11no one in the right mind that's
1242. 47:12christian speaks evil
1243. 47:15denigrates you know what i mean that's
1244. 47:17what a wife did you know
1245. 47:19why that's so important did you know
1246. 47:22that men
1247. 47:23married men are crushed when their wife
1248. 47:26criticizes them
1249. 47:28i guess it's because we have pride all
1250. 47:30of us
1251. 47:31and they're not you know saying oh
1252. 47:33criticize me all you can but let's be
1253. 47:35real
1254. 47:36as a four-decade-long pastor i began
1255. 47:39analyzing why wonderful marriages got
1256. 47:43destroyed
1257. 47:45and one of the elements i saw over and
1258. 47:48over was
1259. 47:49that a husband did not feel
1260. 47:53honored at home every time he was home
1261. 47:56he was told all the things he wasn't
1262. 47:58doing
1263. 47:58well and you know do more of this and
1264. 48:01all that
1265. 48:03but when he got to work that
1266. 48:06receptionist
1267. 48:07said oh boy are you wonderful
1268. 48:10now flattery yeah it was probably untrue
1269. 48:13what she was saying
1270. 48:15but see every man needs
1271. 48:19why do i say this because it says in
1272. 48:20ephesians 5 if you read
1273. 48:22on the wife's side that the wife see
1274. 48:25that she
1275. 48:26honor respect her husband
1276. 48:29there has to be this this treating him
1277. 48:32special that a man responds to
1278. 48:35the next one on the list respond to him
1279. 48:39you know what the bible says in titus 2
1280. 48:41that first word husband lovers

1284. 48:55toward her husband
