- 0:06i'd like to tell you about the strangest
- 0:08secret in the world
- 0:10not long ago albert schweitzer the great
- 0:12doctor and nobel prize winner was being
- 0:14interviewed in london
- 0:15and a reporter asked him doctor what's
- 0:17wrong with men today
- 0:19the great doctor was silent a moment and
- 0:21then he said men
- 0:22simply don't think and it's about this
- 0:25that i want to talk with you
- 0:26we live today in a golden age this is an
- 0:29era that man has looked forward
- 0:31dreamed of and worked toward for
- 0:33thousands of years
- 0:34but since it's here we pretty well take
- 0:36it for granted
- 0:37we in america are particularly fortunate
- 0:39to live in the richest land that ever
- 0:41existed on the face of the earth
- 0:43a land of abundant opportunity for
- 0:45everyone
- 0:46but do you know what happens let's take
- 0:48a hundred men who start even at the age
- 0:50of twenty five
- 0:51do you have any idea what will happen to
- 0:53those men by the time they're sixty five
- 0:55these one hundred men who all start even
- 0:57at the age of 25
- 0:59believe they're going to be successful
- 1:01if you ask any one of these men
- 1:03if he wanted to be a success he'd tell
- 1:05you that he did
- 1:06and you'd notice that he was eager
- 1:08toward life that there was a certain
- 1:10sparkle to his eye an erectness to his
- 1:12carriage
- 1:13and life seemed like a pretty
- 1:14interesting adventure to him
- 1:16but by the time they're 65 one
- 1:19will be rich four will be financially
- 1:22independent
- 1:23five will still be working 54 will be
- 1:26broke
- 1:27now think a moment out of the 100 only
- 1:30five make the grade
- 1:32why do so many fail what has happened to
- 1:34the sparkle that was there when they
- 1:36were 25
- 1:37what's become of the dreams the hopes
- 1:39the plans and why is there such a large
- 1:41disparity between
- 1:42what these men intended to do and what
- 1:45they actually accomplished
- 1:47when we say about five percent achieve
- 1:49success we have to define
- 1:50success and here's the definition
- 1:53success is the progressive realization
- 1:56of a worthy ideal
- 1:58if a man is working toward a
- 1:59predetermined goal and knows where he's
- 2:02going
- 2:03that man is a success if he's not doing
- 2:05that
- 2:06he's a failure success is the
- 2:08progressive realization
- 2:09of a worthy ideal rallo may the
- 2:12distinguished psychiatrist wrote a
- 2:14wonderful book called
- 2:15man search for himself and in this book
- 2:18he says
- 2:19the opposite of courage in our society
- 2:21is not cowardice
- 2:22it is conformity and there you have the
- 2:25trouble today
- 2:26it's conformity people acting like
- 2:29everyone else without knowing why
- 2:31without knowing where they're going
- 2:32now think of it in america right now
- 2:34there are over 14 million people
- 2:3665 years of age and over and about 13
- 2:40million of these 14 million are broke
- 2:42they're dependent on someone else for
- 2:43life's necessities
- 2:45now we learn to read by the time we're
- 2:47seven we learn to make a living by the
- 2:49time we're 25
- 2:50usually by that time we're not only
- 2:52making a living we're supporting a
- 2:53family
- 2:54and yet by the time we're 65 we haven't
- 2:56learned how to become financially
- 2:58independent in the richest
- 3:00land that has ever been known why
- 3:03we conform and the trouble is that we're
- 3:06acting like the wrong percentage group
- 3:08the 95 percent who don't succeed now why
- 3:11do these people conform well they
- 3:13don't know really these people believe
- 3:15that their lives are shaped by
- 3:16circumstances by
- 3:18things that happen to them by exterior
- 3:20forces
- 3:21they're outer directed people a survey
- 3:24was made one time that covered a lot of
- 3:25men
- 3:26working men and these men were asked
- 3:27this question why do you work
- 3:29why do you get up in the morning 19 out
- 3:32of 20 had no idea
- 3:34if you ask them they'll say everyone
- 3:37goes to work in the morning
- 3:38and that's the reason they do it because
- 3:40everyone else is doing it
- 3:42now let's get back to our definition of
- 3:43success who succeeds
- 3:46the only man who succeeds is the man who
- 3:48is progressively realizing a worthy
- 3:50ideal
- 3:51he's the man who says i'm going to
- 3:53become this and then begins to work
- 3:55toward that goal
- 3:56i'll tell you who the successful people
- 3:58are a success is the school teacher
- 4:00who's teaching school because that's
- 4:02what she wanted to do
- 4:03the success is the woman who's a wife
- 4:05and mother because she wanted to become
- 4:06a wife and mother
- 4:07and is doing a good job of it the
- 4:09success is the man who runs the corner
- 4:11gas station because that's what he
- 4:12wanted to do
- 4:13the success is the successful salesman
- 4:15who wants to become a top-notch salesman
- 4:17and grow and build with his organization
- 4:20a success is anyone who is doing
- 4:22deliberately a predetermined job because
- 4:24that's what he decided to do
- 4:26deliberately but only one out of twenty
- 4:29does that
- 4:30that's why today there isn't really any
- 4:32competition unless we
- 4:33make it for ourselves instead of
- 4:35competing all we have to do is
- 4:37create now for twenty years i looked for
- 4:40the key which would determine what would
- 4:42happen to a human being
- 4:43was there a key i wanted to know which
- 4:45would make the future a promise that we
- 4:47could foretell to a large extent
- 4:49was there a key that would guarantee a
- 4:51person's becoming successful
- 4:53if he only knew about it and knew how to
- 4:56use it
- 4:57well there is such a key and i've found
- 4:59it
- 5:00have you ever wondered why so many men
- 5:02work so hard and honestly without ever
- 5:04achieving anything in particular and
- 5:05others don't seem to work hard and yet
- 5:07seem to get everything
- 5:08they have the magic touch you've heard
- 5:10them say that about someone
- 5:12everything he touches turns to gold and
- 5:14have you ever noticed that a man who
- 5:16becomes successful tends to continue to
- 5:18become successful
- 5:19and on the other hand have you noticed
- 5:21how a man who is a failure tends to
- 5:23continue to fail
- 5:25it's because of goals some of us have
- 5:28them some don't
- 5:29people with goals succeed because they
- 5:31know where they're going
- 5:33now think of a ship leaving a harbor and
- 5:35think of it with the complete voyage
- 5:36mapped out and planned
- 5:38the captain and crew know exactly where
- 5:40it's going and how long it will take
- 5:42it has a definite goal nine thousand
- 5:44nine hundred ninety nine times out of
- 5:46ten thousand it will get to where it
- 5:48started out to get
- 5:50now let's take another ship just like
- 5:52the first only let's not put a crew on
- 5:54it or a captain at the helm
- 5:56let's give it no aiming point no goal no
- 5:58destination
- 5:59we just start the engines and let it go
- 6:01i think you'll agree with me that
- 6:03if it gets out of the harbor at all it
- 6:05will either sink or wind up on some
- 6:07deserted beach a derelict
- 6:09it can't go anyplace because it has no
- 6:10destination and no guidance
- 6:12it's the same with a human being take
- 6:15the salesman for example
- 6:17there is no other person in the world
- 6:18today with the future of a good salesman
- 6:21selling is the world's highest paid
- 6:23profession if we're good at it
- 6:24and if we know where we're going every
- 6:27company needs top-notch salesmen
- 6:28and they reward those men the sky is the
- 6:31limit for them
- 6:32but how many can you find someone once
- 6:34said
- 6:35the human race is fixed not to prevent
- 6:37the strong from winning
- 6:39but to prevent the weak from losing the
- 6:42american economy today can be likened to
- 6:44a convoy in time of war
- 6:46the entire economy is slowed down to
- 6:48protect its weakest link
- 6:50just as the convoy had to go at the
- 6:51speed that would permit its slowest
- 6:53vessel to remain in formation
- 6:56that's why it's so easy to make a living
- 6:57today it takes no particular brains or
- 7:00talent
- 7:00to make a living and support a family
- 7:02today so we have a plateau of so-called
- 7:04security if that's what a person's
- 7:06looking for
- 7:07but we do have to decide how high above
- 7:10this plateau we want to aim for
- 7:12now let's get back to the strangest
- 7:14secret in the world the story that i
- 7:16wanted to tell you today
- 7:17why do men with goals succeed in life
- 7:20and men without them
- 7:21fail let me tell you something which if
- 7:23you really understand it
- 7:25will alter your life immediately if you
- 7:27understand completely what i'm going to
- 7:29tell you
- 7:30from this moment on your life will never
- 7:32be the same again
- 7:33you'll suddenly find that good luck just
- 7:35seems to be attracted to you
- 7:37the things you want just seem to fall in
- 7:38line and from now on you won't have the
- 7:41problems
- 7:41the worries the knowing lump of anxiety
- 7:44that perhaps you've experienced before
- 7:46doubt fear well they'll be things of the
- 7:49past
- 7:50here's the key to success and
- 7:53the key to failure
- 7:56we become what we think about
- 8:00now let me say that again we become
- 8:03what we think about throughout all
- 8:06history the great wise men and teachers
- 8:08philosophers and prophets have disagreed
- 8:10with one another on many different
- 8:11things
- 8:12it is only on this one point that they
- 8:15are in complete and unanimous agreement
- 8:18listen to what marcus aurelius the great
- 8:20roman emperor said he said
- 8:21a man's life is what his thoughts make
- 8:23of it
- 8:24israeli said this everything comes if a
- 8:27man will only wait
- 8:28i have brought myself by long meditation
- 8:30to the conviction that a human being
- 8:32with a settled purpose
- 8:34must accomplish it and that nothing can
- 8:36resist a will
- 8:37that will stake even existence for its
- 8:39fulfillment
- 8:40ralph waldo emerson said this a man is
- 8:43what he thinks about
- 8:44all day long william james said
- 8:48the greatest discovery of my generation
- 8:50is that human beings can alter their
- 8:52lives
- 8:52by altering their attitudes of mind and
- 8:55he also said
- 8:56we need only in cold blood act as if the
- 8:59thing in question were real
- 9:00and it will become infallibly real by
- 9:03growing into such a connection with our
- 9:05life
- 9:06that it will become real it will become
- 9:08so knit with habit and emotion
- 9:10that our interest in it will be those
- 9:12which characterize belief
- 9:15he also said this if you only care
- 9:18enough for a result
- 9:19you will almost certainly attain it if
- 9:21you wish to be rich
- 9:23you will be rich if you wish to be
- 9:25learned you will be learned
- 9:26if you wish to be good you will be good
- 9:29only you must then
- 9:31really wish these things and wish them
- 9:32exclusively
- 9:34and not wish at the same time a hundred
- 9:36other incompatible things
- 9:38just as strongly in the bible you read
- 9:42in mark 9 23 if thou canst believe
- 9:46all things are possible to him that
- 9:48believeth
- 9:50dr norman vincent peale said this this
- 9:53is one of the greatest laws in the
- 9:54universe
- 9:55fervently do i wish i had discovered it
- 9:57as a very young man
- 9:59it dawned upon me much later in life and
- 10:01i found it to be one of the greatest
- 10:02if not my greatest discovery outside of
- 10:05my relationship to god
- 10:07and the great law briefly and simply
- 10:08stated is that if you think in negative
- 10:10terms
- 10:11you'll get negative results if you think
- 10:13in positive terms
- 10:15you will achieve positive results that
- 10:17is the simple fact
- 10:18which is at the basis of an astonishing
- 10:20law of prosperity and success
- 10:22in three words believe and succeed
- 10:26william shakespeare put it this way our
- 10:29doubts are traitors
- 10:31and make us lose the good we oft might
- 10:33win by fearing
- 10:34to attempt george bernard shaw said
- 10:38people are always blaming their
- 10:39circumstances for what they are
- 10:41i don't believe in circumstances the
- 10:44people who get on in this world are the
- 10:45people who get up and look for the
- 10:47circumstances they want
- 10:49and if they can't find them make them
- 10:53well it's pretty apparent isn't it
- 10:58and every person who discovered this for
- 11:00a while believed
- 11:01that he was the first one to work it out
- 11:04we become
- 11:05what we think about now it stands to
- 11:07reason that a person who's thinking
- 11:08about a concrete and worthwhile goal is
- 11:10going to reach it
- 11:11because that's what he's thinking about
- 11:13and we become
- 11:14what we think about conversely the man
- 11:17who has no goal who doesn't know where
- 11:19he's going and whose thoughts must
- 11:20therefore be thoughts of confusion and
- 11:22anxiety and fear and worry
- 11:24becomes what he thinks about his life
- 11:27becomes one of frustration
- 11:28fear anxiety and worry and if he thinks
- 11:31about nothing
- 11:33he becomes nothing now how does it work
- 11:36why do we become what we think about
- 11:38well i'll tell you how it works as far
- 11:39as we know
- 11:40now to do this i want to tell you about
- 11:42a situation that parallels the human
- 11:44mind
- 11:45suppose a farmer has some land and it's
- 11:47good fertile land
- 11:48now the land gives the farmer a choice
- 11:50he may plant in that land whatever he
- 11:52chooses the land doesn't care
- 11:54it's up to the farmer to make the
- 11:55decision now remember we're comparing
- 11:57the human mind
- 11:58with the land because the mind like the
- 12:01land doesn't care what you plant in it
- 12:03it will return what you plant but it
- 12:05doesn't care
- 12:06what you plant now let's say that the
- 12:08farmer has two seeds in his hand
- 12:10one is a seed of corn the other is
- 12:12nightshade a deadly poison
- 12:14he digs two little holes in the earth
- 12:15and he plants both seeds
- 12:17one corn the other nightshade he covers
- 12:20up the holes waters and takes care of
- 12:22the land
- 12:22and what will happen invariably the land
- 12:26will return what is planted
- 12:28as it's written in the bible as ye so so
- 12:31shall ye reap
- 12:32remember the land doesn't care it will
- 12:34return poison in just as
- 12:36wonderful abundance as it will corn so
- 12:39up come the two plants
- 12:40one corn one poison now the human mind
- 12:44is far more fertile far more incredible
- 12:46and mysterious than the land but it
- 12:47works the same way
- 12:49it doesn't care what we plant success
- 12:52failure a concrete worthwhile goal or
- 12:55confusion
- 12:56misunderstanding fear anxiety and so on
- 12:59but what we plant
- 13:00it will return to us you see the human
- 13:02mind is the last
- 13:03great unexplored continent on the earth
- 13:06it contains riches beyond our wildest
- 13:08dreams
- 13:08it will return anything we want to plant
- 13:12now you might say well if that's true
- 13:14why don't people use their minds more
- 13:16well i think they've figured out an
- 13:18answer to that too our mind comes as
- 13:20standard equipment at birth
- 13:22it's free and things that are given to
- 13:24us for nothing we place little value on
- 13:26things that we pay money for we value
- 13:29the paradox is that exactly the reverse
- 13:32is true
- 13:33everything that's really worthwhile in
- 13:34life came to us free
- 13:36our mind our soul our body our hopes our
- 13:39dreams our ambitions our intelligence
- 13:42our love of family and children and
- 13:44friends
- 13:46all these priceless possessions are free
- 13:48but the things that cost us money are
- 13:50actually very cheap
- 13:51and can be replaced at any time a good
- 13:54man can be completely wiped out and make
- 13:55another fortune
- 13:56he can do that several times even if our
- 13:59home burns down we can rebuild it
- 14:01but the things we got for nothing we can
- 14:03never replace
- 14:04the human mind isn't used merely because
- 14:07we take it for granted
- 14:08familiarity breeds contempt it can do
- 14:11any kind of job we assign to it but
- 14:13generally speaking
- 14:14we use it for little jobs instead of big
- 14:16important ones
- 14:17universities have proved that most of us
- 14:19are operating on about 10 percent of our
- 14:21abilities
- 14:22decide now what is it you want plant
- 14:25your goal
- 14:26in your mind it's the most important
- 14:28decision you'll ever make
- 14:29in your entire life you want to be an
- 14:31outstanding salesman a better worker at
- 14:33your particular job do you want to go
- 14:35places in your company in your community
- 14:37all you've got to do is plant that seed
- 14:39in your mind
- 14:40care for it work steadily toward your
- 14:42goal and it will become a reality
- 14:44it not only will there's no way that it
- 14:48cannot
- 14:49you see that is a law like the laws of
- 14:51sir isaac newton the laws of gravity
- 14:53if you get on top of a building and jump
- 14:55off you'll always go down
- 14:57you'll never go up and it's the same
- 14:59with all the other laws of nature they
- 15:00always work
- 15:01they're inflexible think about your goal
- 15:04in a relaxed
- 15:05positive way picture yourself in your
- 15:07mind's eye as having already achieved
- 15:09this goal
- 15:10see yourself doing the things you will
- 15:11be doing when you've reached your goal
- 15:14ours has been called the phenobarbital
- 15:16age the age of ulcers and nervous
- 15:17breakdowns
- 15:19at a time when medical research has
- 15:20raised us to a new plateau of good
- 15:22health and longevity
- 15:23far too many of us worry ourselves into
- 15:25an early grave trying to cope with
- 15:27things in our own little personal ways
- 15:30without learning a few great laws that
- 15:32will take care of everything for us
- 15:34these things we bring on ourselves
- 15:36through our habitual way of thinking
- 15:38every one of us is the sum total of his
- 15:41own thoughts
- 15:42he is where he is because that is
- 15:44exactly where he
- 15:45really wants to be whether he'll admit
- 15:47that or not
- 15:49each of us must live off the fruit of
- 15:51his thoughts in the future
- 15:52because what you think today and
- 15:54tomorrow next month the next year
- 15:56will mold your life and determine your
- 15:58future you're guided
- 16:00by your mind i remember one time i was
- 16:02driving through arizona and i saw one of
- 16:04those giant earth-moving machines
- 16:06roaring along the road at about 35 miles
- 16:08an hour with what looked like 20 tons of
- 16:10dirt in it a tremendous incredible
- 16:12machine
- 16:12and there was a little man perched way
- 16:14up on top with the wheel in his hands
- 16:16guiding it
- 16:17and as i drove along i was struck by the
- 16:19similarity of that machine to the human
- 16:20mind
- 16:22just suppose you're sitting at the
- 16:23controls of such a vast
- 16:25source of energy are you going to sit
- 16:27back and fold your arms and let it run
- 16:29itself into a ditch
- 16:31or are you going to keep both hands
- 16:32firmly on the wheel and control and
- 16:34direct this power
- 16:35to a specific worthwhile purpose it's up
- 16:38to you
- 16:39you're in the driver's seat
- 16:42you see the very law that gives us
- 16:45success
- 16:46is a two-edged sword we must control our
- 16:50thinking the same rule that can lead a
- 16:52man to a life of
- 16:53success wealth happiness and all the
- 16:56things he's ever dreamed of for himself
- 16:58and his family
- 16:59that very same law can lead him into the
- 17:02gutter
- 17:03it's all in how he uses it for good
- 17:06or for bad this is the strangest secret
- 17:11in the world now why do i say it's
- 17:14strange and
- 17:15why do i call it a secret actually it
- 17:17isn't a secret at all
- 17:18it was first promulgated by some of the
- 17:20earliest wise men
- 17:21and it appears again and again
- 17:22throughout the bible but very few people
- 17:25have learned it
- 17:26understand it that's why it's strange
- 17:28and why for some equally strange reason
- 17:30it virtually remains a secret
- 17:32i believe that you could go out and walk
- 17:34down the main street of your town and
- 17:35ask one man after another what the
- 17:37secret of success is
- 17:38and you probably wouldn't one into one
- 17:40man in a month
- 17:41who could tell you now this information
- 17:44is enormously valuable to
- 17:46us if we really understand it and apply
- 17:48it
- 17:49it's valuable to us not only for our own
- 17:51lives but
- 17:52the lives of those around us our family
- 17:55employees
- 17:56associates and friends life should be an
- 17:58exciting adventure
- 18:00it should never be a bore a man should
- 18:02live fully be alive
- 18:03he should be glad to get out of bed in
- 18:05the morning he should be doing a job he
- 18:07likes to do because he does it well
- 18:09one time i heard grove patterson make a
- 18:11speech the editor-in-chief of the toledo
- 18:13daily blade
- 18:14and as he concluded his speech he said
- 18:16something that i've never forgotten
- 18:18he said something like this my years in
- 18:21the newspaper business have convinced me
- 18:22of several things
- 18:24among them that people are basically
- 18:25good and that we came from someplace
- 18:29and we're going someplace so we should
- 18:31make our time here
- 18:33an exciting adventure the architect of
- 18:36the universe
- 18:37didn't build a stairway leading nowhere
- 18:42and the greatest teacher of all the
- 18:44carpenter from the plains of galilee
- 18:46gave us the secret time and time again
- 18:49as you believe so shall it be done
- 18:53unto you i've explained the strangest
- 18:56secret in the world and how it works
- 18:59now i want to explain how you can prove
- 19:01to yourself the enormous returns
- 19:03possible in your own life
- 19:04by putting this secret to a practical
- 19:06test
- 19:07i want you to make a test that will last
- 19:11thirty days now it isn't going to be
- 19:14easy
- 19:15if you'll give it a good try it will
- 19:17completely change your life
- 19:19for the better back in the 17th century
- 19:22sir isaac newton the english
- 19:24mathematician and natural philosopher
- 19:26gave us some natural laws of physics
- 19:28which apply as much to human beings as
- 19:29they do to the movement of bodies in the
- 19:31universe
- 19:32now one of these laws is that for every
- 19:35action
- 19:36there is an equal and opposite reaction
- 19:39simply stated as it applies to you and
- 19:41me it means
- 19:43we can achieve nothing without paying
- 19:46the price
- 19:47the results of your 30-day experiment
- 19:49will be in direct proportion to the
- 19:51effort
- 19:52you put forth to be a doctor you must
- 19:54pay the price of long years of difficult
- 19:56study
- 19:57to be successful in selling and remember
- 19:59that each of us succeeds to the extent
- 20:01of his ability to sell
- 20:03selling our families on our ideas
- 20:05selling education in schools selling our
- 20:07children on the advantages of living the
- 20:09good and honest life
- 20:10selling our associates and employees on
- 20:12the importance of being exceptional
- 20:14people
- 20:15to of course the profession of selling
- 20:17itself
- 20:18but to be successful in selling our way
- 20:20to the good life we must be willing to
- 20:22pay the price
- 20:23now what is that price well
- 20:26it's many things first it's
- 20:29understanding
- 20:29emotionally as well as intellectually
- 20:32that
- 20:33we literally become what we think about
- 20:36that we must control our thoughts if
- 20:38we're to control our lives
- 20:39it's understanding fully that as you sow
- 20:43so shall you reap secondly it's cutting
- 20:46away all the fetters from the mind and
- 20:48permitting it to soar as it was divinely
- 20:50designed to do
- 20:51it's the realization that your
- 20:52limitations are self-imposed
- 20:54and that the opportunities for you today
- 20:57are enormous
- 20:58beyond belief it's rising above
- 21:00narrow-minded pettiness
- 21:02and prejudice thirdly
- 21:05to use all your courage to force
- 21:07yourself to think positively on your own
- 21:09problem
- 21:10to set a definite and clearly defined
- 21:12goal for yourself
- 21:14to let your marvelous mind think about
- 21:16your goal from all possible angles
- 21:18to let your imagination speculate freely
- 21:20upon many different possible solutions
- 21:22to refuse to believe there are any
- 21:25circumstances sufficiently strong
- 21:27to defeat you in the accomplishment of
- 21:29your purpose
- 21:31to act promptly and decisively when your
- 21:33course is clear
- 21:34and to keep constantly aware of the fact
- 21:36that you are at this moment
- 21:39standing in the middle of your own acre
- 21:41of diamonds as
- 21:42russell conwell used to point out fourth
- 21:45save at least 10 percent of what you
- 21:48earn
- 21:50it's also remembering that no matter
- 21:52what your present job it has enormous
- 21:54possibilities if you're willing to pay
- 21:56the price
- 21:57now let's just go over the important
- 21:58points in the price each of us must pay
- 22:00to
- 22:01achieve the wonderful life that can be
- 22:02ours it is of course worth any price
- 22:05one you will become what you think about
- 22:08two
- 22:09remember the word imagination let your
- 22:11mind soar
- 22:13three courage concentrate on your goal
- 22:16every day
- 22:17four save ten percent of what you earn
- 22:21and action ideas are worthless
- 22:25unless we act on them now i'll try to
- 22:28outline the 30-day test i want you to
- 22:30make now keep in mind that you have
- 22:31nothing to lose by making this test
- 22:34and everything you could possibly want
- 22:36to gain
- 22:38there are two things that may be said of
- 22:40everyone each of us
- 22:41wants something and each of us is afraid
- 22:45of something i want you to write on a
- 22:47card
- 22:48what it is you want more than anything
- 22:50else it may be more money
- 22:52perhaps you'd like to double your income
- 22:54or make a specific amount of money
- 22:56it may be a beautiful home it may be
- 22:59success at your job
- 23:00it may be a particular position in life
- 23:03it could be a more harmonious family
- 23:05each of us wants something write down on
- 23:08your card
- 23:09specifically what it is that you want
- 23:11make sure it's a single goal
- 23:13and clearly defined you needn't show it
- 23:15to anyone
- 23:16but carry it with you so that you can
- 23:18look at it several times a day
- 23:20think about it in a cheerful relaxed
- 23:22positive way each morning when you get
- 23:23up and immediately you have something to
- 23:25work for
- 23:26something to get out of bed for
- 23:28something to live for
- 23:29look at it every chance you get during
- 23:31the day and just before going to bed at
- 23:33night
- 23:34as you look at it remember that you must
- 23:36become what you think about
- 23:38and since you're thinking about your
- 23:39goal you realize that
- 23:41soon it will be yours in fact it's yours
- 23:44really the moment you write it down
- 23:45and begin to think about it look at the
- 23:48abundance all around you as you go about
- 23:50your daily business
- 23:51you have as much right to this abundance
- 23:53as any other living creature
- 23:55it's yours for the asking now we come to
- 23:57the difficult part
- 23:59difficult because it means the formation
- 24:00of what is probably a brand new habit
- 24:03and new habits are not easily formed
- 24:05once formed however
- 24:06it will follow you for the rest of your
- 24:07life stop
- 24:09thinking about what it is you fear
- 24:13each time a fearful or negative thought
- 24:15comes into your consciousness
- 24:17replace it with a mental picture of your
- 24:19positive and worthwhile goal
- 24:21there will come times when you'll feel
- 24:23like giving up it's easier for a human
- 24:25being to think negatively than
- 24:26positively that's why only five percent
- 24:28is successful
- 24:30you must begin now to place yourself in
- 24:32that group
- 24:33for 30 days you must take control of
- 24:35your mind
- 24:36it will think only about what you
- 24:38permitted to think
- 24:40each day for this 30-day test do more
- 24:42than you have to do
- 24:44in addition to maintaining a cheerful
- 24:46positive outlook
- 24:47give of yourself more than you've ever
- 24:49done before
- 24:51do this knowing that your returns in
- 24:53life must be in direct proportion to
- 24:54what you give
- 24:56the moment you decide on a goal to work
- 24:58toward you're immediately a successful
- 25:00person
- 25:01you're then in that rare and successful
- 25:03category of people who know where
- 25:04they're going
- 25:06out of every hundred people you belong
- 25:08to the top
- 25:09five don't concern yourself too much
- 25:12with
- 25:12how you're going to achieve your goal
- 25:14leave that completely to a power
- 25:16greater than yourself all you have to do
- 25:18is know
- 25:20where you're going the answers will come
- 25:22to you
- 25:23of their own accord remember these words
- 25:27from the sermon on the mount
- 25:28and remember them well keep them
- 25:30constantly before you this month
- 25:32of your test ask and it shall be given
- 25:36you
- 25:37seek and ye shall find
- 25:40knock and it shall be opened unto you
- 25:44for everyone that asketh receiveth
- 25:47and he that seeketh findeth and to him
- 25:50that knocketh
- 25:51it shall be opened it's as marvelous
- 25:55and as simple as that in fact it's so
- 25:58simple
- 25:59that in our seemingly complicated world
- 26:01it's difficult for an adult to
- 26:02understand that all he needs
- 26:04is a purpose and faith
- 26:08for thirty days do your best
- 26:11if you're a salesman go at it as you've
- 26:13never done before not in hectic fashion
- 26:15but with the calm cheerful assurance the
- 26:17time well spent
- 26:18will give you the abundance and return
- 26:20you deserve and want
- 26:21no matter what your job do it as you've
- 26:23never done it before for 30 days
- 26:26and if you've kept your goal before you
- 26:28every day
- 26:29you'll wonder and marvel at this new
- 26:31life you've found
- 26:33dorothea brand outstanding editor and
- 26:35writer discovered it for herself and
- 26:37tells about it in her fine book wake up
- 26:39and live
- 26:40her entire philosophy is reduced to the
- 26:42words
- 26:43act as though it were impossible to fail
- 26:48she made her own test with sincerity and
- 26:51faith
- 26:52and her entire life was changed to one
- 26:54of overwhelming success
- 26:56now you make your test for thirty full
- 26:58days don't start your test until you've
- 27:00made up your mind to stick with it
- 27:03you see by being persistent you're
- 27:05demonstrating
- 27:06faith persistence is simply another word
- 27:09for faith
- 27:10if you didn't have faith you would never
- 27:13persist
- 27:15if you should fail during your first 30
- 27:17days by that i mean suddenly find
- 27:18yourself overwhelmed by
- 27:20negative thoughts you've got to start
- 27:22over again from that point
- 27:24and go 30 more days
- 27:27gradually your new habit will form until
- 27:30you find yourself one of that wonderful
- 27:32minority
- 27:33to whom virtually nothing is impossible
- 27:36don't forget the card it's vitally
- 27:38important as you begin this new way of
- 27:40living
- 27:41on one side of the card write your goal
- 27:44whatever it may be
- 27:46on the other side write the words we've
- 27:48quoted
- 27:49from the sermon on the mount ask and it
- 27:52shall be given you
- 27:54seek and ye shall find knock
- 27:57and it shall be opened unto you nothing
- 28:00great was ever accomplished
- 28:02without inspiration see that during
- 28:04these crucial first 30 days
- 28:06your own inspiration is kept at a peak
- 28:09above
- 28:10all don't worry
- 28:13worry brings fear and fear
- 28:16is crippling the only thing that can
- 28:19cause you to worry during your test
- 28:21is trying to do it all yourself know
- 28:25that all you have to do
- 28:26is hold your goal before you everything
- 28:29else
- 28:30will take care of itself
- 28:33remember also to keep calm and cheerful
- 28:37don't let petty things annoy you get you
- 28:40off course
- 28:42now since making this test is difficult
- 28:44some may say well
- 28:46why should i bother well look at the
- 28:49alternative
- 28:51no one wants to be a failure no one
- 28:54really wants to be a
- 28:55mediocre individual no one wants a life
- 28:58constantly filled with worry
- 29:00fear and frustration therefore remember
- 29:03that you must
- 29:04reap that which you sow if you sow
- 29:07negative thoughts
- 29:08your life will be filled with negative
- 29:10things
- 29:11if you sow positive thoughts your life
- 29:14will be cheerful
- 29:15successful and positive now gradually
- 29:19you'll have a tendency to forget what
- 29:21you've heard on this record
- 29:23play it often keep reminding yourself of
- 29:26what you must do to form this new habit
- 29:29gather your whole family about and
- 29:30listen to what's been said here
- 29:32at regular intervals you know most men
- 29:35will tell you that they want to make
- 29:36money
- 29:38without understanding the law the only
- 29:40people who make money work in the mint
- 29:43the rest of us must earn money
- 29:46this is what causes those who keep
- 29:48looking for something for nothing or a
- 29:50free ride to fail in life
- 29:52the only way to earn money is by
- 29:54providing people with
- 29:55services or products which are needed
- 29:58and useful
- 29:59we exchange our product or service for
- 30:02the other man's money
- 30:04therefore the law is that our financial
- 30:06return will be
- 30:07in direct proportion to our service
- 30:11success is not the result of making
- 30:13money
- 30:14making money is the result of success
- 30:18and success is in direct proportion to
- 30:21our service
- 30:22most people have this law backwards they
- 30:24believe that you're successful
- 30:26if you earn a lot of money the truth is
- 30:29that you can only earn money after
- 30:32you're successful
- 30:34it's like the story of the man who sat
- 30:35in front of the stove and said to it
- 30:37give me heat and then i'll add the wood
- 30:41how many men and women do you know or do
- 30:43you suppose there are today who take the
- 30:45same attitude toward life
- 30:47there are millions we've got to put the
- 30:50fuel in
- 30:52before we can expect heat likewise we've
- 30:55got to be of service
- 30:56first before we can expect money
- 31:00don't concern yourself with the money be
- 31:03of service
- 31:04build work dream create
- 31:08do this and you'll find there's no limit
- 31:11to the prosperity and abundance
- 31:13that will come to you prosperity is
- 31:16founded upon a law of mutual exchange
- 31:20any person who contributes to prosperity
- 31:23must prosper in turn himself
- 31:27sometimes the return will not come from
- 31:29those you serve
- 31:30but it must come to you from some place
- 31:32for that
- 31:33is the law for every action
- 31:36there is an equal and opposite reaction
- 31:40as you go daily through your 30-day test
- 31:42period remember that your success will
- 31:43always be measured by the quality and
- 31:45quantity
- 31:46of service you render and money is a
- 31:48yardstick
- 31:49for measuring this service no man can
- 31:52get rich himself
- 31:54unless he enriches others there are no
- 31:57exceptions to a law
- 31:58you can drive down any street in america
- 32:00and from your car estimate the service
- 32:02that's being rendered by the people
- 32:03living on that street
- 32:04had you ever thought of this yardstick
- 32:06before it's interesting
- 32:08some like ministers and priests and
- 32:10other devoted people measure their
- 32:12returns in the realm of the spiritual
- 32:13but again
- 32:14their returns are equal to their service
- 32:17once this law is fully understood
- 32:19any thinking person can tell his own
- 32:21fortune
- 32:22if he wants more he must be of more
- 32:24service to those from whom he receives
- 32:26his return
- 32:28if he wants less he has only to reduce
- 32:30this service
- 32:32this is the price you must pay for what
- 32:36you want
- 32:38if you believe you can enrich yourself
- 32:40by deluding
- 32:42others you can only end by deluding
- 32:45yourself it may take some time
- 32:49but just as surely as you breathe you'll
- 32:51get back
- 32:52what you put out don't ever make the
- 32:55mistake of thinking
- 32:56you can avert this it's impossible
- 33:00the prisons and the streets with a
- 33:02lonely walk
- 33:03are filled with people who tried to make
- 33:06new laws just for themselves
- 33:08we may avoid the laws of man but there
- 33:11are greater laws
- 33:13that cannot be broken
- 33:16an outstanding medical doctor recently
- 33:18pointed out
- 33:19six steps that will help you realize
- 33:22success one
- 33:24set yourself a definite goal two
- 33:28quit running yourself down three
- 33:31stop thinking of all the reasons why you
- 33:33cannot be successful
- 33:35and instead think of all the reasons why
- 33:37you can
- 33:39four trace your attitudes back through
- 33:41your childhood and try to discover where
- 33:43you first got the idea you couldn't be a
- 33:45success if that's the way
- 33:47you've been thinking five change the
- 33:50image you have of yourself
- 33:52by writing out a description of the
- 33:54person you would like to be
- 33:56and six act the part of the successful
- 34:00person
- 34:01you have decided to become
- 34:04the doctor who wrote those words is a
- 34:06noted west coast psychiatrist
- 34:08david harold fink md do what all experts
- 34:12since the dawn of recorded history have
- 34:14told you you must do
- 34:16pay the price by becoming the person
- 34:20you want to become it's not nearly as
- 34:22difficult as living unsuccessfully
- 34:25make your 30-day test then repeat it
- 34:30then repeat it again each time it will
- 34:33become more a part of you
- 34:34until you'll wonder how you could ever
- 34:36have lived any other way
- 34:38live this new way and the floodgates of
- 34:41abundance will open
- 34:42and pour over you more riches than you
- 34:45may have dreamed existed
- 34:47money yes lots of it but what's more
- 34:51important
- 34:52you'll have peace you'll be in that
- 34:55wonderful minority
- 34:57who lead calm cheerful successful lives
- 35:02start today you have nothing to lose
- 35:05but you have a life to win
